| Syndicate forges Cardinal Onaiyekan’s signature to obtain pilgrims’ visas | Mr Olumide's Blog Posted: 29 Dec 2017 12:59 AM PST  The arrested suspects were identified as Ikenna Aningwu, 28; Ebere Okere, 36; Toyin Dada, 36; Naboth Iyke, 35; and Yomi Alalade, 39. The suspects and others at large allegedly forged documents bearing the signature of Cardinal John Onaiyekan of the Catholic Archdiocese, St. James Catholic Church, Abuja. The cardinal was a former President of the Christian Association of Nigeria. PUNCH Metro learnt that they presented the documents to the Consulate General of the Italian Embassy on Victoria Island in order to secure six visas for intending Christian pilgrims to Rome. A police source disclosed to our correspondent that the embassy was suspicious of the documents and contacted the cardinal to verify the signature, which turned out to have been forged. The source said, "Sometime in November 2017, Aningwu and five other suspects at large conspired with Okere, Dada, Iyke and Alalade to forge documents for visas. Aningwu and the five others wanted to go for pilgrimage in Rome. It was learnt from another source that a petition was addressed to the Zone 2 Police Command, Onikan, Lagos, in respect of the alleged fraud. "The embassy pretentiously called the suspects that the visas were ready and they should come to pick them up. Aningwu was arrested when he went to pick one of the visas. Other members fled having got wind of his arrest. He led operatives to locations where four of the accomplices were arrested," the source added. The suspects were on Thursday arraigned in Igbosere Magistrate's Court on three counts bordering on forgery and fraud. The defendants, who were brought before Chief Magistrate A.F.O. Botoku, pleaded not guilty to the charges and elected summary trial. The unnamed victimtold police she had been thrown off the I-430 bridge into the frigid waters, but was able to will herself to land. The victim told authorities she was kidnapped after witnessing a shooting where two people were gunned down. One of the victims, Arlin Nugent, 49, died at the scene. The other was transported to a local hospital and is expected to survive. One man in connection with the crimes is already in custody and Arkansas authorities are currently searching for a second suspect. Richard Gilliam, 33, of Little Rock was being held without bond at the Lonoke County jail on charges that include capital murder. Lonoke County sheriff's officials say Gilliam was one of two men who entered a home in Scott, just southeast of Little Rock, and began firing at people inside. "We discovered that 47 inmates had escaped from custody. Immediately, a search party swung into action and 14 were recaptured." The controller added that four of those who escaped died from bullet wounds when they tried to overpower prisons officers on duty. Oditah added that some of the prisons officials, who sustained different degrees of injuries, were receiving treatment in an undisclosed hospital. He explained that the escaped inmates seized utensils like knives, machetes and other dangerous materials to aid their escaped. | Electrician accused of stealing phone kills witness | Mr Olumide's Blog Posted: 28 Dec 2017 12:59 PM PST  Olusegun, who just got admission to the institution, was reportedly stabbed to death by an electrician, Israel Oluranti. The suspect was arrested by policemen from the Agbado Police Division, led by the Divisional Police Officer, CSP Omonijo Sunday. PUNCH Metro learnt that Oluranti and Olusegun had attended a birthday party on Moshood Amao Street, Jafar, Ope-Ilu, Ogun State, with their respective friends on Christmas Eve. It was learnt that the two groups sat side-by-side at the event. While the party was on around 1am on Monday, one Lekan, a dancer and Olusegun's friend, went to the stage to entertain the gathering. He reportedly hurriedly dropped his mobile phone with somebody while going on stage, but could not recognise the person when he returned to his seat. As Lekan was searching for his Lenovo phone, Olusegun claimed that he saw Oluranti collect it – an allegation the suspect denied, leading to an altercation between him and the deceased. The deceased's close friend, Damilola Rotimi, told our correspondent that he was sleeping when some people from the event knocked on his door around 3am and informed him of the chaos. He said, "On getting to the party, the phone had been found on him (Oluranti) upon Farooq's (Olusegun) insistence. As people chided him, he became violent, smashed the bottle of the beer that he was drinking on his own head and attempted to stab Lekan. Olusegun's uncle, Kolawole Abiola, said his graduation from a vocational centre as a photographer was slated for next month. He said the family was devastated by the incident. "He wanted to study Business Administration at The Polytechnic Ibadan. He was living in a detached apartment in his parents' compound. Somebody came to wake him up that night to attend the party. The parents were shocked when they were informed us about his death in the morning," he added. However, in a chat with our correspondent, 21-year-old Oluranti, an electrician, denied stealing the phone and claimed that it was one, Sunday who killed Olusegun. The native of Abeokuta, Ogun State, said, "I was going to buy food around 11pm on Sunday when I saw Egbon (brother) KB. He said he had been looking for me so we could attend a Christmas Eve party together. "When Lekan was going on stage to dance, he did not know who he gave his phone to. He came back and started looking for his phone. I told KB that I wanted to go home and he stood up to see me off. Layman destroyed three original paintings and two abstract sculptures, according to Texas authorities. She tore the paintings off the wall and poured liquid on them, and threw the sculptures across a room in Buzbee's hom;/e, the court documents reveal. Two of the paintings were original Warhol works with a total value of $1 million, according to KHOU. Buzbee, who has represented former Texas Gov. Rick Perry, told authorities that Layman was drunk and called an Uber for her at his residence, according to the station. Layman would not leave and hid from Buzbee, according to KHOU. Later, when he tried calling a second Uber, she cursed at him and did the damage to the artwork, KHOU reported. The sculptures damaged at the home were worth $20,000 each, according to KHOU. Prosecutors said it had been their first date, according to the station. The suspect was arrested by policemen from the Adigbe Divisional Headquarters same day the crime was committed. It was learnt that Andrew's wife had left the baby with him on Christmas Eve while she left for her ex – husband place, but returned to meet the lifeless body of the baby. And suspecting foul play, she reported the incident at the Adigbe Divisional Police Headquarters where operatives were detailed to arrest the man. The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Abimbola Oyeyemi, who confirmed the arrest, said Andrew had confessed to committing the crime. The department's Internal Affairs Bureau will be reviewing every step of the officers' response to Tonie Wells' address in Crown Heights, an NYPD spokesman said. "The entire incident regarding any precinct communication and response issues are being reviewed by the department," the NYPD said in a statement.According to NY Daily News, Sources said the 22-year-old victim called 911 early Wednesday to report that she was in fear of her husband Barry Wells, 29, who was acting strangely. A high-ranking NYPD source with knowledge of the case said the two officers received "incomplete information" when they were told to check on Wells early Wednesday.  "The incomplete information may have caused a delay in the response," the source said. But the source noted that there was still no way to justify the decision to blow off the call. Cops were once again called to the couple's Sterling Place home at about 10 a.m. Wednesday, after neighbors heard Wells' 2-year-old daughter screaming inside. Responding officers found Wells on the bottom of a basement staircase with bruises around her neck. She appeared to have been strangled, cops said.  It was unclear how long the young mother's body was inside the house alone with the toddler. "She was just with us for the holidays," Well's aunt Katherine Rivera, 46, said Thursday, chocking back sobs. "We're in pain." Barry Wells, who wed the victim in March, was apprehended Wednesday night.  After spending several hours in police custody, the suicidal suspect was taken by ambulance to Kings County Hospital for a psychiatric evaluation, sources said. Mugabe, who already lives in a blue roof palace in Harare will get in addition a housing allowance to be determined by Mnangagwa, or a single private residence acquired or constructed on his behalf at any place of his choice in Zimbabwe or payment of a lump sum equal to the value of the private residence. The latter benefit will also accrue to his surviving spouse or dependant child up to the age of 21 years. "With respect to private residence, the property shall be constructed on land which in total may not exceed 5 000 square metres.
