Update on N50k bail & lady s*xually harassed by policemen Posted: 08 Sep 2017 03:52 AM PDT The committee investigating alleged unethical conducts and s*xual harassment of suspects' family members by policemen attached to Anti-Kidnapping and Anti-Cultism Squad of the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department, Yaba, Lagos State, has started its sitting. All parties were present at the meeting on Thursday, during which the former Officer-in-Charge of the Anti-Kidnapping and Anti-Cultism Squad, CSP Akinade Adejobi, and his men were quizzed. Although Lagos Commissioner of Police, Edgal Imohimi, gave the committee seven days to submit its report, Punch gathered that the panel might conclude its investigation on Friday (today). Recall that a single mum of two, Blessing Taiwo, had been accused by her boss, Mrs. Abiola Osagie, of stealing $50,000. Osagie, who is the Managing Director of the Ikoyi, Lagos office of AfricInvest, a multinational consulting and equity firm, had alleged that she left the money in the office before going on a trip for a few weeks. She said by the time she returned, the money had disappeared, adding that 43-year-old Blessing had explanations to give concerning the missing money. The Abeokuta, Ogun State indigene, was said to have been arrested by policemen from the Ikoyi division, along with Osagie's driver, Mr. Oluwaseun Sodiya, who was paid N10,000 to clean up the office during his boss' absence. The matter was later transferred from the police station to the SCIID, Yaba, from where it was referred to the Anti-Kidnapping and Anti-Cultism Squad, Surulere. The suspects were detained for four days as the OC, Adejobi, allegedly refused to grant them bail. He was alleged to have admitted them to bail after Blessing's family paid N50,000 out of the N70,000 charged for her freedom, while the driver's family paid N29,000 before he was released. Blessing's sister, Florence, alleged that she (Florence) was always harassed by policemen anytime she took food to her sister in the cell, adding that the policemen touched her privates and breasts. The driver's wife, Oluwanifemi, also alleged that she was s*xually assaulted, saying one of the policemen caressed her and demanded a date despite knowing that she was married. The CP, Imohimi, after removing Adejobi as the head of the unit, set up a committee to investigate the allegations. He also returned the original case to the Ikoyi Police Station. During the Thursday sitting of the committee, the embattled OC allegedly denied knowledge of the s*xual harassment, adding that when he heard of the bail issue, he acted promptly by punishing the policemen involved. The meeting reportedly started at 11am and ended at 2.15pm. A source said, "Three people were actually detained: Blessing, the driver, and a cleaner. Blessing's sister, Folakemi, said she paid N50,000; the driver's family said they paid N29,000, while the cleaner said his family paid N22,000. "One of the policemen said to have collected the money, Sheu, denied making any demand for money or collecting anything. But Blessing's family confronted him with hard evidence. "They said the man demanded N2m and they thought he was joking. Later, they said they begged him to collect N40,000, but he refused, saying they should make it N200,000 because he would not be able to present N40,000 to his superiors, who will not accept it. In the end, they gave him N50,000." Adejobi was reported to have said he was not around on the day of the incident. The second-in-command of the former OC is expected to present himself for questioning on Friday. The Divisional Police Officer in charge of the Ikoyi division was asked why he transferred the case to the SCIID. "The Ikoyi DPO said he transferred the case due to the volume of money involved, which was beyond the capacity of his division. He said he also didn't have the resources to investigate the case because it could take time and manpower. He said there was no substantial evidence for prosecution. So, he decided to move it to the SCIID. "The former OC anti-kidnapping, who was asked how the matter got to his section which ordinarily should not be there, said he was a police officer and could investigate any case. He said the matter was referred to him by the Deputy Commissioner of Police, SCIID, Bolaji Salami, and he could not say no to his superior. "At the end of the day, everybody believes the DCP SCIID, Salami, has a case to answer for sending a case that shouldn't have gone to anti-kidnapping there. That is the crux of the matter now," another source said. Punch gathered that cases of stealing are usually referred to the D3 Section (General Investigation) of the SCIID. It is, however, not clear why Salami referred the case to the Anti-Kidnapping and Anti-Cultism Squad. On issue of the s*xual harassment, Blessing's sister, Florence, and the driver's wife, Oluwanifemi, narrated their ugly experiences as they were questioned by officers from the gender unit. The source said the victims painted a graphic picture of their ordeal in the hands of the policemen. The phone number of one of the policemen, said to be in the possession of one of the victims, was reportedly dialled and a mobile application, TrueCaller, revealed his identity. He is expected to be at the Friday meeting. "Friday is probably going to be the final meeting." culled from Olu famous Mr Olumide's Blog |

Armed Men Waylay Bus In Rivers, Kidnap All 19 Occupants Posted: 08 Sep 2017 03:22 AM PDT Kidnappers struck again in Rivers State on Thursday, waylaying an 18-seater bus and abducting the 19 occupants of the vehicle, including the driver. It was gathered that the incident happened on Isiokpo-Elele Road in the Ikwerre Local Government Area, about 30 kilometres from Agip Junction in Port Harcourt, where the bus branded, Rivers Mass Transit Company, took off. Sources explained that the kidnappers, who were 10 in number and heavily armed, blocked the road and forced the bus to stop as soon as it (bus) approached them. Thursday's abduction would be the third time in one month that passengers would be waylaid on the road by hoodlums in Rivers State. It was learnt that the victims, who were on their way to Owerri, the Imo State capital, were marched into the bush by their captors at about 8.30am. A driver plying the route, Mr. Martins Aluziwe, said his bus was earlier attacked by the hoodlums, adding that he and the driver, whose bus was intercepted, loaded passengers into their vehicles almost at the same time at Agip and Whimpy junctions before moving out of the park at the same time. Aluziwe added that that soldiers at a checkpoint close to the scene of the incident had moved into the bush to ensure the rescue of the abducted persons. He said, "What happened was that we were going to Owerri this morning (Thursday). On getting to Omuagwa, I met the driver of the hijacked vehicle, who was also travelling to Owerri. When we got to the bridge by Isiokpo Junction, armed men attacked us. "Because I was in the front, they only shot at my car; they could not stop me. The bullet did not hit anybody inside my vehicle, but the other bus was attacked and everybody, including the driver, were taken into the bush. "Another driver informed me that soldiers had entered into the bush, but no information about the kidnapped victims yet. We are calling for more security personnel to rescue the people." When contacted, the state Public Relations Officer, Mr. Nnamdi Omoni, confirmed the incident. He said 12 persons among the kidnap victims had been rescued. He said, "It happened this morning (Thursady). Our men have rescued 12 persons. Efforts are on to get others rescued." Omoni explained that security operatives were still combing the bush with a view to apprehending the hoodlums and rescuing the remaining passengers. culled from Olu famous Mr Olumide's Blog |
Diezani's Loot Recovered So Far Is Just 15% – EFCC Boss Posted: 08 Sep 2017 03:22 AM PDT Acting Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Ibrahim Magu, on Thursday, said only about 15 per cent of funds allegedly misappropriated by a former Minister of Petroleum Resources, Mrs. Diezani Alison-Madueke, had been recovered. He said, "It is even more notorious than the so-called Abacha loot because we have not seen anything yet. I'm sure what we have seen is not more than may be 15 per cent." Magu, who said the commission was working with the United Kingdom on her case, noted that efforts were being made to extradite her back to Nigeria. The anti-corruption boss, who spoke during a courtesy visit of the principal officers to Punch office on Thursday, vowed never to give up until all the money stolen from the country was recovered. He said, "We are working on the process of Diezani's extradition. But we have to allow them (the UK government) because we are collaborating. There is the National Crime Agency and the Crown Prosecution Service in London, and our colleagues, the Department of Justice and the Federal Bureau of Investigation in America. We had cause to meet in London. I was there myself for about a week. We are working not only on the Diezani case; but the Diezani case has become a test case. "I think it is going to be a long time. That is why sometimes I think we should appeal to the looters to return the loot. Come and tell the government, 'This is what I have stolen.' Since you have voluntarily complied with the instruction to bring back the loot, then the government will take a decision. I think it is the best way to go about it, otherwise, the monies would be wasted. "Diezani has a lot of people who are well connected, like (Jide) Omokore who are international businessmen. They have private aircraft and you can't see any of them in Nigeria. They went and kept them in Ghana, some of them. But we are working with almost all law enforcement agencies in the world. They are all willing to work with us because what I told them is, 'As long as you have any (claim) of criminality in Nigeria, call us.' "We will go after the criminals because we don't wait for protocol. Delay is dangerous; when you delay you will not see it. So, we are ready to cooperate with everybody and people have shown willingness. Last time I went to the international convention, they said Nigeria should show it experience. So, the whole world at the United Nations level wants to hear our asset recovery experience." Magu noted that the National Salaries, Incomes and Wages Commission had been informed of the needs of the anti-corruption agency, saying there would soon be an upgrade of facilities. He said the agency was also giving attention to the welfare of its workers to avoid undue influence or temptation in the course of their assignments. The EFCC boss explained that the EFCC was making efforts to involve experienced lawyers in order to reduce the rate of loss of court cases. culled from Olu famous Mr Olumide's Blog |

We Killed The Female Students, Sold Body Parts For N15m – Ritualists Shocking Confessions Posted: 08 Sep 2017 02:12 AM PDT One wonders what is pushing people these days into such devilish means of 'making' money. Sigh! Three suspects who were arrested by operatives of the Ondo State Police Command last week, over the kidnap of female students of Adeyemi College of Education, Ondo State, have confessed that they kidnapped, killed the students and thereafter sold their body parts for N15 million. The suspected ritualits who made the confession when they were paraded at the headquarters of the state police command in Akure, said they kidnapped, killed and later sold the body parts of two students of the institution, Miss Blessing Oladepo and Mary Oluwasemilore, who were earlier declared missing. The suspects are: Alfa Abdurafiu Tijani, John Adenitire a.k.a Emir and Fisayo Fasanu a.k.a Abore. While speaking to reporters, one of the suspects, Tijani, confessed that they abducted the students after they (students) had boarded commercial motorcycles in front of the school, adding that they were working for one Mr. Shile in Ijebu Igbo, Ogun State. Shile, according to the suspect, allegedly dealt in human part business for ritual purposes. Tijani said he had not been paid for the last service rendered before the arrest. He said, "We have kidnapped three female students, we killed them, removed their left br*ast and left arm and we sold them for N5million for a pair of left breast and left arm. "We have somebody that sent us. He is Shile, he is leader of the group that collected the body parts from us. But he has not paid us yet for this last service." 5 Tips To Increase Chances of Surviving A Plane Crash Posted: 08 Sep 2017 01:47 AM PDT Plane crashes are usually a rare occurrence, but when it happens, the results can be fatal. Clearly, nobody prays for a plane crash. But you cannot rule it out as bad as this may sound. These tips shared by Jumia Travel will help increase your chances of surviving a plane crash. 1. Consider the type of aircraft Every type of aircraft is different. Even if you fly all the time, you are more than likely to fly on different types of aeroplanes and sitting in different seats each time you take to the sky. So, every time you get on a plane, take a minute or two to review the safety information card in the seatback pocket in front of your seat. By doing this, you will be familiar with the evacuation procedures. 2. Keep your shoes on during take-off and landing Take-off and landing are the most important phases of a flight. There is nothing wrong in removing your shoes during flight, but putting your shoes back on before landing will prevent you from having to escape barefooted. 3. Know how far you are from the nearest exit Take a moment to locate the exit nearest to you keeping in mind that the closest exit may be located behind you. 4. Do not take anything with you This is one of the biggest factors when it comes to safely evacuating during a plane emergency. Simply leave your luggage and exit the plane. 5. Do not take alcohol or medication that helps you relax The fear of flying can cause a passenger to drink alcoholic beverages or take a prescription medication to ease the stress of air travel. This may not keep you in the right frame of mind in case anything happens because you may be tipsy or drowsy. culled from Olu famous Mr Olumide's Blog |
10 Good Women Who Experienced Miracles Posted: 08 Sep 2017 01:17 AM PDT Miracles. We experience them every day, in the phone call that comes at just the right time or the verse that speaks to exactly what we need. We see God's miracles in the vastness of the ocean and hear them in the faint whisper of a mom's voice while holding her newborn baby. But sometimes we face big, scary circumstances. We pray for a miracle. But through the struggles we face, our faith can start to fade... It's in those dark times, we can turn to the stories of women in Scripture who experienced mighty miracles from God. These wonders recorded in God's Word open our eyes to the miracles surrounding us every day. They remind us, "… the Lord is God in heaven above and on the earth below," (Deuteronomy 4:39 NIV). Let's look at these 10 women in the Bible who experienced a miracle. May their stories inspire our hearts and strengthen our belief that God still works miracles today. 1. Hannah "When Elkanah slept with Hannah, the Lord remembered her plea, and in due time she gave birth to a son. She named him Samuel, for she said, 'I asked the Lord for him'" (1 Samuel 1:19-20). She wanted nothing more than to be a mom. For years she suffered with infertility, and her desire to have a child of her own affected her countenance. Her husband Elkanah tried everything to make Hannah happy. But the agony she felt only grew every time his other wife Peninnah cast a cruel glance her way. Hannah didn't give up though. Even under the heaviness of harsh words, she held onto her faith. Hannah prayed a bold prayer asking God for her miracle, and God responded through the prophet Eli. "Go in peace, and may the God of Israel grant you what you have asked of him," (1 Samuel 1:17). Hannah experienced the miracle of the birth of her son Samuel, and she dedicated him to a life of service to the Lord. 2. Elizabeth "But the angel said, 'Don't be afraid, Zechariah! God has heard your prayer. Your wife, Elizabeth, will give you a son, and you are to name him John'" (Luke 1:13). God's miracles go beyond the limits of human nature and challenge our understanding. Maybe that's why Zechariah questioned God when he heard the promise that his wife Elizabeth would become a mother in her old age. Elizabeth wasn't able to conceive. But that little detail didn't stop God from fulfilling His plan through her. An angel appeared to Zechariah the priest and told him Elizabeth would have a son and instructed him to call the boy John. Elizabeth experienced the miracle of conception. She shared her joy with these humble words, "How kind the Lord is!" she exclaimed. "He has taken away my disgrace of having no children." (Luke 1:25). 3. Mary, Mother of Jesus "'Don't be afraid, Mary,' the angel told her, 'for you have found favor with God! You will conceive and give birth to a son, and you will name him Jesus'" (Luke 1:30-31). Five months after Elizabeth became pregnant, the world forever changed through the greatest miracle conception in history. The angel Gabriel came to visit a young bride-to-be named Mary. His mission? To bring her unfathomable news. "You will conceive and give birth to a son, and you will call him Jesus," (Luke 1:31). Mary didn't ask for this miracle, yet she graciously accepted the difficult path God placed before her. How hard it must have been for Mary, with all the doubt-filled stares and questioning comments. But through it all, she and her husband Joseph held fast to their faith and did what God told them to do. From their story we can learn an important truth. Sometimes the greatest miracles are the ones we didn't pray for. 4. Sarah "The Lord kept his word and did for Sarah exactly what he had promised. She became pregnant, and she gave birth to a son for Abraham in his old age" (Genesis 21:1-2). God had big plans for Sarah and her husband Abraham. Abraham's descendants would be as numerous as the stars he saw in the sky (Genesis 15:5). Yet Sarah didn't trust the truth of that promise because of her age. She decided to intervene and give God a little help. So she gave her servant Hagar to Abraham and instructed him to have children through her. In time, Hagar gave birth to Abraham's first born son, Ishmael. So many times we doubt God's ability to follow through on a promise, when all we need to do is trust. Why is trust so hard? Why does our faith fizzle out in the waiting? If you are waiting on an answer from God right now, find encouragement in Sarah's story. Because even in her doubt – even though she laughed when the angel told Abraham she would have a child – God still performed a miracle. Sarah experienced the miracle birth of her son Isaac. 5. Hagar "Then God opened Hagar's eyes, and she saw a well full of water. She quickly filled her water container and gave the boy a drink" (Genesis 21:19). Hagar often gets overlooked because of her role as a simple servant to Sarah. But when we see Hagar as a mom wanting the best for her child, we can relate to her plea when she didn't want to see her son suffering. In the middle of the desert, Hagar cried out to God. They were alone, out of water, and void of any hope for their situation to change. But God saw Hagar and heard Ishmael's cries (Genesis 21:17). Hagar's story reminds us that in our loneliest times, God still sees us and provides what we need to survive. Hagar experienced the miracle of God's provision. 6. Manoah's Wife "The angel of the Lord appeared to Manoah's wife and said, 'Even though you have been unable to have children, you will soon become pregnant and give birth to a son'" (Judges 13:3). Miracles defy our understanding. They can't be explained. The angel in this story even said, "Why do you ask my name? It is beyond understanding," (>Judges 13:18 NIV). In Scripture, we can read about many miraculous births, but this story is different. She experienced a miracle, but we don't even know her name. The angel visited Manoah's wife to deliver the news. She received specific instruction about handling her pregnancy and raising the child. God trusted her to follow His directions in taking care of her son, who would one day help deliver Israel from the Philistines. Even though she is known to us as "Sampson's mom," God knew her for her willingness to be obedient to His call. 7. Widow with the Jar of Oil "And Elisha said, 'Borrow as many empty jars as you can from your friends and neighbors. Then go into your house with your sons and shut the door behind you. Pour olive oil from your flask into the jars, setting each one aside when it is filled.' So she did as she was told. Her sons kept bringing jars to her, and she filled one after another. Soon every container was full to the brim!" (2 Kings 4:3-6). A single mother of two boys, she faced a financial crisis like nothing she'd ever known. Her husband had been a faithful helper to Elisha, but now he was gone. Not only that, but because of her crisis, she also feared losing her sons. In the midst of her impossible situation, she didn't lose hope. She didn't have the answer to her problems, but she knew who to ask. God worked a miracle in her life that day, providing a way to pay off her debts and give her financial security for the rest of her life. He filled jars with oil until no empty jars remained. She experienced the miracle of God's abundance. 8. Woman from Shunem "Then Elisha summoned Gehazi. 'Call the child's mother!' he said. And when she came in, Elisha said, 'Here, take your son!' She fell at his feet and bowed before him, overwhelmed with gratitude. Then she took her son in her arms and carried him downstairs" (2 Kings 4:36-37). She didn't expect God to give her a son. Time and time again she offered hospitality to Elisha out of her servant's heart. But God blessed her for her faithfulness. When the boy became sick and died, she spoke one of the most remembered sayings in the Bible. "It is well." I'm amazed at this brave woman's ability to remain calm in a crisis. She went straight to the prophet with her need, even passing by without telling her husband. Her actions showed resolve, peace, and steadfast trust. She experienced a miracle when God brought her son back to life. 9. Woman with the Issue of Blood "A woman in the crowd had suffered for twelve years with constant bleeding, and she could find no cure. Coming up behind Jesus, she touched the fringe of his robe. Immediately, the bleeding stopped" (Luke 8:43-44). Twelve long years. Constant pain and bleeding. The physical agony she endured only magnified by the loneliness she surely felt in her seclusion from others. She'd had enough, and when she heard Jesus was passing by, she seized her opportunity. Jesus knew someone had touched the hem of his garment, even though the crowd pressed in, surrounding him. She didn't back down. Her desperation brought her to this place, and she was determined to see it through. She bowed down and told Him everything. "Then he said to her, 'Daughter, your faith has healed you. Go in peace,'" (Luke 8:48). The instant she touched him, she experienced the miracle of healing. 10. Tabitha "Turning to the body he said, 'Get up, Tabitha.' And she opened her eyes! When she saw Peter, she sat up! He gave her his hand and helped her up. Then he called in the widows and all the believers, and he presented her to them alive" (Acts 9:40-41). Tabitha dedicated her life to caring for others. She made clothes for widows and helped the poor. When she became sick and died, those she served gathered around her, mourning her death. But some of her fellow believers heard that Peter was nearby, and they went to find him. When Peter prayed for her, God breathed life into Tabitha. This devoted follower and friend experienced the miracle of new life. Her story became a testimony to everyone of God's power and mercy. ASUU Strike: The real language of the Nigerian government Posted: 08 Sep 2017 01:17 AM PDT Written by: Egbeolowo-Olaitan It would have sounded unpleasant to the ears of they that heard Albert Einstein the day he said, "INSANITY IS DOING THE SAME THING OVER AND OVER AGAIN, BUT EXPECTING DIFFERENT RESULTS". We keep under-funding the education sector and yet, we are excepting miracle in the same sector being underfunded. Then I ask: How can a productive graduate be produced from this rotten system? I think Albert Einstein was looking at this direction when he gave his own definition of insanity. In fact, if I'm to contemplate and decipher whether there is a difference between Nigeria's pre-colonial era and post colonization, then i would say that there is something wrong with us inside our black skin and we were better off when the white man ruled. Despite the role of education in national development, Nigeria as a nation, keeps deriving pleasure in underfunding her education sector. It shows that we have misplaced our priorities as a nation. Nigerian leaders are always eager in attending to needless issues over the needful ones. After many outcries on the importance of education and the 26% benchmark as recommended by the UNESCO for developing countries, the reverse seems to be the case in the attitude of the Nigerian government towards education. What this implies is that, for decades, the country's budget for education has been less than the 26% benchmark recommended by the United Nations for developing countries. This implies that our education system is in shambles and our schools are underfunded. So all of these put together have contributed to the decline in the quality of our education. It is just a shame that hardly a 4yr calendar goes by without Academic disruption. Therefore, this incompetency of the Federal government is an insult to our citadel of learning because our tertiary institution is the cradle of the society. The thing is just that when the cradle is rendered useless it reflects on the nation as a whole, that is why we can't compete with our counterparts globally. That is why most of the Nigerian parents from the bourgeoisie class prefers to enroll their children abroad rather than enrolling them in this bottomless pit. Furthermore, it is not surprising that the irresponsible government officials patronizes foreign universities while dumping the ivory towers in their own country into the bottomless pit. This pontificates that our political leaders have no moral compass or a distorted moral compass such that I'm afraid they can't make it to the parking lot on their own. Many Nigerians are anxious due to the industrial action stimulated by ASUU, they want to know when the strike will come to an end, yet the FG are lackadaisical in their negotiations. They want to know what the future hold for the dying state of the education sector. If not, what is it to fund an important sector such as education? Instead of that, what we have is the height of capitalism ruling around. Then the question to ask is, how many Nigerians can afford three square meals a day, not to talk of enrolling in a private university? According to research, the first and perhaps the greatest challenge facing Nigeria and making it difficult for good quality education that is capable of bringing about sustainable development is inadequate funding by federal, state and local governments. Also, in 1997 and 2000 statistics show that federal government expenditure on education was below the 26% of national budget as recommended by the UNESCO. The most disheartening part of this strike is that, most students would become ready tools for all sort of activities in their respective environments, just because they are jobless in one way or the other. Also, it would be a maddening crescendo if billions of naira could be used on eating snacks alone and yet, a whole sector is in shambles under the same adminstration. The Yorubas would say "OJU TO MAA BANI KALE, KO NI TI AARO SE IPIN". The eyes that will serve one until old age won't be rheumy in one's youthful years. Could it be that the future of the Nigerian state has been sabotaged? Could it be that Nigeria is heading for better days? Where does the hope lies? Well,Whether or not Nigeria is heading for better days remains to be seen. Seriously, If we continue threading on this thin path, then I fear Nigeria is heading for a cloud of apocalypse. - Egbeolowo-Olaitan is a student of Tai Solarin University Of Education (TASUED), where he studies primary education/political science. Dear Pastor... You're In Charge, So Take Charge Posted: 08 Sep 2017 12:42 AM PDT Disclaimer: Nothing which follows should be interpreted to encourage pastors to become bullies or know-it-alls. Scripture teaches servant-leadership, as exemplified by the Lord Jesus in John 13. However, our burden here is those pastors who are passive and hesitant to take a strong stand with their people, church leaders, and their staff. "Shepherd the flock of God which is among you, serving as overseers, not by compulsion but willingly; not for dishonest gain but eagerly; not as being lords over those entrusted to you but being examples to the flock..." (1 Peter 5:2-3) You are responsible to the Lord for the flock, pastor. Numerous scriptures make that plain. Some will not like that. Some will accuse you of being heavy-handed. Some in the congregation will insist that "We too are holy." I suggest you agree with them, and then direct them to two passages of Scripture: to Numbers 12 where Aaron and Miriam tried that little ploy on Moses, and to Numbers 16 where certain "men of renown" (said with all seriousness!) said the same thing to Moses. In each case, the results were disastrous. No amount of Bible study should dissuade a God-called servant of the Lord from believing that the Lord has made pastors the "overseers" (episkopoi) of His church. See I Peter 5:2-3 and Acts 20:28 for starters.
The pastor must not fear the consequences or how people will react to his leadership. He must not fear to lead, to make decisions. He must not fear to stand out in front. Leaders who stand in front will become targets for the rabble, but that's a small price to serve the Lord Jesus Christ in the greatest work on the planet. He must not fear a strong ministerial staff. Let him appreciate them and support them as they do their work, but he must make plain to them that he is in charge of them also. They are answerable to the pastor. Anything less than this–leaving each minister as a law unto himself–violates his calling, dishonors his Lord, fails the church, and sets the staff up for trouble. The pastor must not fear strong personalities within the congregation. The pastor is responsible. The pastor is charged. The pastor is accountable. Hebrews 13:17 says pastors will stand before the Lord and give account for the souls of their flock. If ministers reading that scripture find it frightening, they should. It is a fearsome thing to fall into the hands of the living God (Hebrews 10:31). Only the rebellious and unfaithful fear falling into God's hands. The simple fact is we live "in those hands" and have our very being there. Surely, we decided years ago we can trust Him and so rest securely there for now, and for ever. So, let us be faithful. And let us faithfully discharge the duties He has given us and live up to the calling with which we are called. [written by Joe McKeever] culled from Olu famous Mr Olumide's Blog |

Christians, Who or What is Controlling Your Choices? Posted: 07 Sep 2017 11:42 PM PDT "Grace changes the nature of man, but nothing changes the nature of sin" ~John Owen The principle of sowing and reaping applies to all areas of life. We must first discipline ourselves before desire comes. We must first empty ourselves in order to be filled. We must first obey before receiving the blessing. We must first break before there is restoration. We must first pray before there is transformation. We must praise Him before there is peace. And we must first seek Him if we are to truly find Him - we must sow before we reap. The word of God plants seeds "sow" we can reap later. For example, when discouraged, refer to 2 Corinthians 4:8-12 (ESV) and thank God for His shelter in the storm, "We are afflicted in every way, but not crushed; perplexed, but not driven to despair; persecuted, but not forsaken; struck down, but not destroyed." When a difficult financial decision needs to be made, look to Proverbs 22:1, "A good name is more desirable than great riches; to be esteemed is better than silver or gold."When confronted with adultery or sexual purity, recall Proverbs 9:17-18, "Stolen water is sweet; and bread eaten in secret is pleasant. But he does not know that the dead are there, that her guests are in the depths of hell." We need to stop watching all of the drama in the news and begin applying Paul's words and fear and anxiety will flee: "Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, rejoice. Let your reasonableness be known to everyone. The Lord is at hand;do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God.And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things. What you have learned and received and heard and seen in me—practice these things, and the God of peace will be with you" (Philippians 4:4-9). Why would we willingly walk into the enemy's camp? Why would we feed wrong desires and thoughts? Feeding the flesh does nothing but bring war against the spirit. The sinful nature opposes the Spirit, primarily through our desires. These opposing forces are constantly fighting each other, and our choices are never free from this conflict (cf. Galatians 5:17). The Bible reveals that the devil is the prince of this world (Ephesians 2:2); therefore, you should pay close attention to what you watch and listen to—the force controlling it ultimately controls you. Romans 8:6 (NLT) states, "If your sinful nature controls your mind, there is death. But if the Holy Spirit controls your mind, there is life and peace." With God's help, you'll begin to control your thoughts instead of allowing your thoughts to control you. Here are some practical steps:
Here is how it plays out: During worship the heart begins to soften and open. You hear the still small voice of God during prayer as He draws your heart toward Him. Reading reinforces, educates, and opens our eyes to His will. Answering questions that we have builds faith (apologetics). The devotional reading sparks a deeper walk... a deeper hunger for God. The ending reading sets the stage for the following day. Sin is deceptive. We are free of sins bondage but not the influence. "Grace changes the nature of man, but nothing changes the nature of sin" (John Owen). Many of us talk as if God is real, but act as if He's not. We are witnessing a generation of people hearing the word of God but not applying it. Ironically, the power is in the application - not the knowledge. James 1:22 warns, "But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves." James 4:17 adds, "Whoever knows the right thing to do and fails to do it, for him it is sin." Sin blinds, leads, deceives, justifies, excuses, and prevents us from fulfilling God's will. This is why the application of God's word is vital - God uses the word to bring clarity. If you've fallen away from God, use this opportunity to turn back to Him and His word: "Your Word is a lamp and a light" (cf. Psalm 119:105). He will not let you down: "For the eyes of the Lord run to and fro throughout the whole earth to show Himself strong on behalf of those whose hearts are blameless toward Him" (2 Chronicles 16:9). Woman pleads guilty to strangling 92-year-old World War hero 34 years ago | Mr Olumide's Blog Posted: 07 Sep 2017 01:13 PM PDT A New York woman has admitted to strangling a 92-year-old World War I veteran with his own neckties during a break-in more than 34 years ago. The family of Edmund Schreiber is feeling "fantastic" because Saundra Adams is finally being brought to justice, Erie County District Attorney John Flynn said Thursday. Adams, now 51, pleaded guilty in a Buffalo courtroom the day before to a reduced charge of manslaughter. She faces a maximum of 25 years in state prison. "Mr. Schreiber survived World War I, but he did not survive those who, during the night of June 23, 1983, invaded his home, attacked him, and took his life," acting Erie County District Attorney Michael Flaherty Jr. said last year. Adams was 17 when she and an accomplice broke into the war hero's home in Buffalo. Adams and Schreiber lived on the same street, and she had done errands for him. The suspected accomplice is no longer alive. Schreiber's hands were tied and he was strangled with several of his neckties. Friends later found his body on his bed.The case had been unsolved for decades, but DNA found on some of the neckties and fingerprints collected from furniture in the bedroom linked Adams to the killing. Saundra Adams, now a mother of two, was enrolled in college classes in Buffalo and was working in the school's library when she was arrested. The New York Daily culled from MPNB Mr Olumide's Blog |
