Story of Nigerian Pastor Who Has Been Living With Bullet In His Skull For 14 Years (Photos)

Posted: 03 Apr 2018 12:14 AM PDT

The touching story of a Nigerian pastor living with a bullet in his skull for the past 14 years after an armed robbery attack has left many people in serious shock.

A Nigerian philanthropist, Ukan Kurugh has taken to social media to share the touching life story of a pastor who has lived with a bullet in his skull for the past 14 years. He is calling for help from well-meaning Nigerians. Read his story;

Pastor Simon Abe Omashika a 52year old Benue indegene from Buruku local government is a pastor, wife, and a father of two kids, a boy who is a student at UniAgric Makurdi and a girl currently schooling at Cavalry Arrows in Gboko.

He was caught in the middle of a crossfire between the Police and armed Robbers during a Robbery incidence on Katsina Ala street on the 7th day of June 2004.

Pastor Simon, was a staff of NEPA and on that faithful day, he had closed from church when he got a call that there was a fault at a transformer somewhere at Katsina Ala street, he and a friend/colleague, Mr. T, went to check it out. They had finished fixing the fault and were on their way home when they ran into these robbers.

The police were alerted and they responded. In the course of the exchange of fire which ensued afterwards, Pastor Simon got hit by one of the bullets. The bullet went through his left ear and went right into his brain.

He was taken to Madonna hospital where he was referred to Memfys Hospital for Neurosurgery in Enugu, he went there and it was conferred by a CT scan that the bullet was resting in his skull. He was told a surgery at that time was a grave risk to his life and also the hospital was not sufficiently equipped to have one at that time successfully.

He was placed on medications which cost at least N5000 a week, and was asked to return to the hospital to be checked regularly. His wife told me they couldn't continue with both due to lack of funds, Since he was no longer working at the time, it was difficult to keep up with it so they stopped at some point.

He had lived with the bullet in his Skull for 14 good years now. He suffered partial deafness and his speech is impaired since then and can only communicate by gestures and writing on a paper now using his left hand to learn since the incidence since his right side is paralyzed all because of the bullet.

However, despite his condition, Pastor Simon is still a devout Christian and a dedicated father, his devotion to God is simply endearing. He has not let his condition prevent him from serving God. He is always in church for services and he sweeps, goes to the market and does several other chores his condition can allow.

Mr Simon was at first opposed to an idea of appealing to support on his behalf so he could have the surgery. He said he has left everything to God. I told him God does not come down in form of a cloud these days to help his people, he sends his help through people or someone, and I may just have been God's messenger to help him out of his condition.

Nigerians and good people all over the world, I believe we understand how abnormal it is for one to live with a foreign object in his body, let alone a bullet sitting right in the middle of one's brain.

I am appealing to us all to help Pastor Simon have this surgery so he can be well again, I am also appealing to those representing his constituency both at the state and Federal level to please come in and help him.

As it is we don't know how much the surgery will cost but any one with useful information about the cost of the surgery and alternative place where it can be carried out successfully may do well to share with us.

Pastor Simon needs another CT Scan to ascertain the position of the bullet and then the surgery to make him better. He needs money, and I am counting on you all to help him have that surgery.

You can send your various contributions or donations to his wife's Account found on the philanthropist's Facebook page HERE.

Presidency Reacts to Obasanjo’s Assessment of Buhari’s Govt.

Posted: 03 Apr 2018 12:14 AM PDT

The Presidency on Monday night said the administration of President Muhammad Buhari would not join issues with former President Olusegun Obasanjo over his comments on the Buhari administration.

NAN reports that Obasanjo had on Monday while addressing a group of youths who visited him at his country home Abeokuta described the Buhari administration as a failure.

Obasanjo also asked the All Progressives Congress (APC) -led government to stop complaining about the challenges it met on the ground.

"What we have now is failure. Never you reinforce failure, let failure be failure… Those of you who are in business, your business could have been better today if we have a competent and effective and performing government.''

However, the President's Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mr Femi Adesina, who responded to Obasanjo's comments in a telephone interview on Channels Television on Monday, said the assessment was not new.

"Already, the statement issued few months ago by the Minister of Information and Culture, Mr Lai Mohammed, in response to the earlier criticism made against the government by Obasanjo had adequately addressed the issues raised''.

He maintained that the APC-led Federal Government would keep making reference to the failures of the past administration with a view to guiding against such mistakes in future.

According to Adesina, the Buhari administration has successfully tackled mismanagement of the nation's economy, as Nigeria now has more savings in its foreign reserve than ever before.

The former President had earlier issued a 13-page statement, criticising Buhari's performance and concluded that Buhari should not seek re-election in 2019.

From Beggar To Hero: Pope Francis Baptizes Nigerian, John Ogah In Rome

Posted: 02 Apr 2018 09:54 AM PDT

A Nigerian who migrated to Italy has been hailed as a hero and had his head baptized by head of the Catholic church, Pope Francis.

Tens of thousands of pilgrims gathered in St. Peter's Square on Sunday for an Easter mass led by Pope Francis, who on the previous night, baptized eight people, including a man known in Italy as the "migrant hero."

Nigerian John Francesco Ogah, 31, was praised after he intercepted another man attempting to rob a supermarket in Rome's Centocelle neighbourhood on Sept. 26, 2017.

According to Italian news reports, Ogah had been begging for spare change outside the Carrefour market when a masked thief, armed with a meat cleaver, tried to make off with 400 euros ($636 Cdn) he had stolen from the cashiers.

Security cameras captured Ogah's courageous next steps: With nothing more than his bare hands, he confronted the thief, wrested the cleaver away and held him by the collar until police arrived, after the man fell from his attempted getaway motorcycle.

Ogah, who did not have permission to stay in Italy, then left the scene, fearing it would be discovered he did not have documents, according to La Repubblica newspaper.

Police using footage from the surveillance cameras tracked him down and rewarded him by helping him get legal permission to stay in the country. The police captain who worked in the neighbourhood stood at Ogah's side as his godfather during Saturday night's baptism.

The faithful attending Sunday's service underwent heavy security checks to enter St. Peter's Square.

Pope Francis opened the festivities with a Tweet to his global flock: "Our faith is born on Easter morning: Jesus is alive!"

He then delivered his "Urbi et Orbi" message ("to the city and the world")message from the central balcony of St. Peter's Basilica.

Francis called for peace in a world marked by war and conflict, "beginning with the beloved and long-suffering land of Syria," and extending to the entire Middle East, the Korean peninsula and parts of Africa affected by "hunger, endemic conflicts and terrorism."

The Pope reflected on the power of Christianity's core belief — that Jesus rose from the dead following the crucifixion. The pontiff said the message of the resurrection offers hope in a world "marked by so many acts of injustice and violence."

"It bears fruits of hope and dignity where there are deprivation and exclusion, hunger and unemployment; where there are migrants and refugees, so often rejected by today's culture of waste, and victims of the drug trade, human trafficking and contemporary forms of slavery," the Pope said.

He called for a "swift end" to carnage in Syria, demanding that aid be delivered to the needy there and calling for "fitting conditions for the returned and the displaced."

The Pope also urged reconciliation in Israel and hoped that mutual respect would "prevail over divisions" in Yemen and the entire Middle East.
