Mr 2Kay Robbed At Gunpoint After Performance At Eko Hotel | Mr Olumide's Blog

Posted: 23 Oct 2017 03:49 AM PDT

Abiye David Jumbo popularly known as Mr. 2Kay was robbed  at gun point in his hotel room at Eko Hotel and Suites, Victoria Island, Lagos, last night.

According to a statement by his record label, Grafton records, the sad incident happened around 11pm on Sunday, October 22, 2017, during the Buckwyld and Breathless concert. He had struggled with one of the 4 robbers who somehow gained access to his room, but was injured and threatened to calm down or he'd be shot dead.

One of the robbers locked the singer's friend, who was with him in the hotel, into the bathroom, while the others tied the singer's arms, legs and mouth and took his valuables including jewelry, clothes, perfumes, phones, and money. They also cut the room's intercom (phone) to avoid any form of communication as they left the hotel.

James Silas, manager at 2Kay's record label speaking on the incident said:
"I was quite shocked when I got to Mr. 2Kay's room last night.
This was somebody I watched perform some minutes before the incident. Anyway, the hotel authorities and police are already investigating the incident and we hope they'll apprehend the criminals as soon as possible."

Davido Finds Himself In A New Scandal | Mr Olumide's Blog

Posted: 23 Oct 2017 03:49 AM PDT

A few weeks back singer Davido took to social media to announce that he won't be performing at a billed show on September 1 in Colorado, USA due to some issues.

He however explained the reason for cancelling the show tweeting that he almost got arrested  have  for credit card fraud like fellow musician, Dammy Krane, He added that in a bid to avoid being another "Dammy Krane" he did not appear in Colorado.
He stated;
"Damn they almost Dammy Kraned me smh! Can't make the show in Colorado tonight! We were at the airport for five hours. I'm so sorry! It was out of our hands and there was nothing we could do. I will do all I can to make it up to you guys… God bless,"

This apology did not go down well with the organisers of the show, BME, as they claimed Davido deliberately missed the show, while dubbing him a liar.

According to BME, three flights had been booked for Davido consecutively but he bluntly failed to honour any of them, under the guise that he was doing a photo shoot, while he was actually partying. BME said;

"We attempted to book a fourth flight for Davido but Davido failed to accept the fourth flight arrangement, stating that he wanted a direct flight into Denver. We could not get him a direct flight to Denver, as there were none; all that was available was connecting flights.
Davido, who bluntly refused to make his flight three times, then posted on his snapchat that he was not going to make it to Colorado! We don't owe Davido. He breached his contract!"

Ayodele Akindele, a staunch fan of Davido based in Colorado, stated:

"It is obvious that Davido is not telling the truth. That he was arrested is probably an excuse just to get off the hook. We all came out and bought tickets for his show only for him to abandon us; it is so sad."

Another fan of Davido, Balkissa Saidou, said: "(Davido) stole my money, wasted my time and didn't even have the decency to be honest to the guests. So disappointed."
Dan Asima, Davido on the canceled show said:
"It is sad that Davido chose to go parting while his fans here in Colorado were waiting for him. It is so sad." Meanwhile, in order to assuage fans, BME had organised another concert for October 16 featuring P-Square. It was a free show. But lots of music fans were not assuaged by BME's option.
An angry Ashley Reynolds fumed:

"This means nothing to me! You guys still haven't resolved anything. And to sum it up, you guys try and bring another artiste out here when the first one never came. You guys trying to butter people up with a free concert. (This) isn't going to make people forget how you've wronged us. Nor will it bring our money back to our wallets."
When Sunday Sun called Davido's manager, Asa Asika for his reaction, mum was the word. He neither picked his call nor replied text messages sent him.

Mr 2Kay Robbed At Gunpoint In His Hotel Room In Lagos

Posted: 23 Oct 2017 03:44 AM PDT

Nigerian singer Abiye David Jumbo, popularly known as Mr 2Kay, was robbed at gun point in his hotel room at Eko Hotel and Suites, Victoria Island, Lagos.

A statement by Graftin, his record ladel, said the incident happened around 11pm on Sunday, October 22, during the Buckwyld and Breathless concert where he also performed.

The robbers, 4 in number, gained access into his room after he mistook one of them for room service.

They forced their way into his room and waved a gun with threats to shoot him if he made a noise.

Mr 2Kay, who was in the room with a friend, struggled with one of the robbers, as the others punched and hit him with a gun, repeatedly warning that they will shoot if he doesn't calm down.

One of the robbers led and locked 2Kay's friend in the bathroom, while the others tied the singer's arms, legs and mouth and took his valuables, including jewelry, clothes, perfumes, phones, and cash.

They also cut the room's intercom (phone) to avoid any form of communication as they left the hotel.

The hotel authorities and the police have taken statements for investigation, while he is getting medical attention for his wounds.

Manager of Grafton Records, James Silas, said:
"I was quite shocked when I got to Mr. 2Kay's room last night. This was somebody I watched perform some minutes before the incident. Anyway, the hotel authorities and police are already investigating the incident and we hope they'll apprehend the criminals as soon as possible."

Women in Asoebi denied entry to Saraki's Daughter wedding?

See another photo and what the person who shared the pics wrote:

"Kwara people who are supporters of Baba Adinni aka Bukola Saraki caged and locked out of the wedding ceremony of the daughter of their great leader. I hear they were locked out so as to prevent them from erupting into nuclear battles over amala, semo or jollof rice. Hunger is real in Kwara State. Why Some Ladies Go Into Expensive Weddings That Flop?

Posted: 23 Oct 2017 02:19 AM PDT

It's the dream of most women to get married to a man whose chemistry works well with hers. She's dreamt of the magic of her wedding day for years. And now the day is here, would she be stepping into her worst nightmare?

"As I walked down the aisle towards the man I was about to marry," recalled 36-year-old Rolake an IT consultant, "I could see my mother on our side of the church earmarked for the bride's family wearing earring matching expensive aso-ebi designed for my wedding. A sea of faces smiled at me, wishing me luck and dancing as if they were as much responsible as my immediate family for this spectacular wedding.

"All I felt were huge palpitations in my heart.
I felt I could be somewhere else but this church where everyone had come to wish me joy in my marriage. The dreadful truth was that even though I was about to make my vows, I knew I didn't love this man ahead of me at the alter in spite of the fact that moments from now, I was about to make the biggest mistake of my life.

"Yet I walked down that aisle, with the people who love me most in the pews either side of me. I knew that I no longer wanted to marry Joseph, the groom waiting for me. I just felt too embarrassed to admit I had cold feet.

"Planning the wedding had taken over our lives to such an extent that I had lost sight of what really mattered. But to call the whole thing off would have meant losing face. It was no surprise that the marriage crashed with a depressing inevitability."

Rolake now has a new man in her life but marriage is the furtherest thing from her mind. Instead, she agreed to move in with him and see how things pan out. Franka, a well-renowned wedding planner said; "With weddings becoming grander and more expensive each year, it seems that a growing number of brides-to-be feel compelled to go ahead with their big day, through guilt or financial obligation, even when they know for certain the union is going to end in divorce.

Tellingly, as wedding costs escalate, so do divorce statistics – it's been discovered that the more people spend on their wedding and engagement, the more likely they are to end the marriage.

"It's a fact that half of couples getting married accept considerable financial help from their parents to cover the cost. Little wonder a doubting bride might feel she has no choice but to suppress her worries and simply say: 'I do'."

For Rolake, calling off the wedding would have meant throwing away the millions of Naira her and her fiance had saved towards the wedding and letting down her family who had also provided a chunk of the expenses. Her grandmother had also made a generous contribution.

"I couldn't have lived with the guilt of my grandmother losing her money. In the end, it seemed easier to swallow all my doubts and go ahead with it anyway. In the weeks running up to my wedding, I had endless worries about whether I should be going through with it, yet I couldn't confide in anyone. It was embarrassing to admit I was getting cold feet for no other reason than that during the two years of planning and arranging this wedding, I had lost sight of why I was doing it, and had fallen out of love with my fiance.

"Now, of course, I realise that wedding wasn't about making a life-long commitment to someone I wanted to grow old with – it was about making real that picture-perfect day I had imagined for myself since childhood. 'While keeping up with my friends who'd all got married before me, my ex-husband was my first serious boyfriend. We had been together since I was 19. By the time our wedding day came, I just didn't feel able to voice my reservations, as so much time, effort and money had been invested in the day..."

Billionaire Ayiri Can't Be Our Prime Minister – Female Chief In Delta Insists

Posted: 23 Oct 2017 01:49 AM PDT

Popular rights activist, Chief Rita Lori-Ogbebor, has said Chief Ayiri Emami will not be recognised as the Ologbotsere (Prime Minister) of Itsekiri nation, if the Olu of Warri, His Majesty Ogiame Ikenwoli, confer the title on him against the wishes of the people.
Her words: "Simply put, the Olu does not take a decision on his own without proper consultation. It would be sad if it is true that the Olu conferred any title on Ayiri."

Briefing newsmen in Lagos, Chief (Mrs.) Lori-Ogbebor said the Itsekiri had rejected Emami prior to his appointment, last Friday, noting that it was surprising that the Itsekiri monarch went ahead to make him the Ologbotsere.

She said: "I will, therefore, not believe that the Olu will rush to confer a title on anybody because there is no reason to do so. Above all these reasons is the fact that there is a saying, which guides the Itsekiri throne and it is Mi ni mi ni I gbo, I gbo mi ni, meaning the people own the palace and the palace owns the people.

"It is this marriage between the people and the throne that makes the Itsekiri throne unique. This is why people would die for the throne and the throne should do same.

"Simply put, the Olu does not take a decision on his own without proper consultation. It would be sad if it is true that the Olu conferred any title on Ayiri.

"In this case, he refuted the letter I wrote because the people refused to accept Ayriri Emami as their Ologbotsere. The second time, the people protested that they still did not want Ayiri as their Ologbostere. Therefore, it is quite clear to the Olu that the people have spoken.

"There are people who want to take Itsekiri throne and palace because of the resources and this is what the people should worry about. Let it be clear that as the custodian of the Itsekiri throne, we shall not surrender our throne.

"This is not a war of guns. This is a war of just being ourselves as a people, who do things with their brain and not with violence.
"I only saw Olu, Ayiri and three chiefs somewhere. I do not see anything that suggests that a chieftaincy title was being given out.

"If it is true that a chieftaincy title was given, the Olu would be putting his credibility on the line. Please fight nobody, but just ignore Ayiri as an Ologbostere of Itsekiri people."

Arrest Ex-Pension Boss Maina Now – Sagay, Falana charges Buhari

Posted: 23 Oct 2017 01:49 AM PDT

The Chairman, presidential advisory committee against corruption, Prof. Itse Sagay (SAN), and human rights lawyer, Femi Falana have called on President Buhari-led administration to immediately arrest the wanted ex-chairman of the defunct Presidential Task Force on Pension, Abdulrasheed Maina, who has returned to Nigeria and now in a big office.

Maina, who fled the country in 2015 after being indicted for allegedly perpetrating fraud to the tune of N2bn, returned to the country and was posted to the Ministry of Interior based on the recommendation of the Head of Service and was given double promotion.

But on Sunday evening the EFCC spokesman, Wilson Uwujaren insisted that Maina was still wanted.

Asked if Maina would be arrested by the commission, the EFCC spokesman refused to speak further.

The EFCC on its website retained a picture of Maina, asking members of the public to fish him out.

Speaking with Punch on the saga, Sagay said Maina's case should not be treated with kid gloves based on the gravity of the offence he allegedly committed.

The PACAC chairman described pension scam as one of the worst forms of fraud known to mankind and anyone accused of such should not be handled with kid gloves.

Sagay said, "This man was accused of embezzling billions of naira meant for pensioners who had spent all their lives serving this country. One man took the money they should rely on in their declining years, subjecting them to misery and hopelessness.

"This is a moral and criminal issue. So, to hear that the man is in the country and somebody employed him means he is not the only criminal in the system. It means there is an accessory.

"Whoever was involved in employing him and then giving him promotion is an accessory after the fact to the crimes committed by this man if it is established that he is culpable. I don't see why he escaped if he was not guilty."

He said, "The EFCC should not just say they are aware; they should take action. The EFCC should now arrest him, interrogate him and if they can establish a case, prosecute him. They should also investigate all those involved in the reabsorbing and promotion of this man.

"If it established that they brought him back into the civil service despite knowledge of the man's alleged crimes, they are also accessories after the fact and should also be arrested and prosecuted."

Similarly, Falana urged the EFCC to immediately charge Maina with the alleged N100bn pension fraud for which he was declared wanted for years.

Falana, in an SMS to Punch, also urged President Buhari to sanction those involved in Maina's recall and promotion in their bid to sabotage the administration's anti-corruption war.

He said, "Mr. Maina was declared wanted by the EFCC because of his indictment in a pension scam. Now that he has been located, the EFCC has a duty to charge him without any further delay.

"The Head of Service and interior minister who shielded him from prosecution ought to be charged with aiding and abetting the felon.

"Those who recalled and promoted the fugitive ought to be sanctioned by President Buhari to serve as a deterrent to others who may wish to sabotage the war against corruption."

Peter Obi Opens Up: "Why I'm Fighting Governor Obiano"

Posted: 23 Oct 2017 01:14 AM PDT

Here's a brief part of a chat ex-Governor Peter Obi had with Vanguard on the coming Anambra poll:

Sir, how is the campaign going?
Going on very well. Electioneering is tough, especially in our country where truth is in short supply. As somebody who has gone through elections, I often tell people to restrict their promises during an election to what is realistic. In essence, I always advocate for respect for the truth.

I read Cicero's Manual of electioneering written for his relative called Quintus. Cicero advised him to tell lies about his opponent and to even invent scandals – this is what I see in Anambra State. I am at the centre of the campaign and every day they invent stories about me. They sponsored people to comment, N7 billion, and when it appeared it was not working the man in question started wondering to himself! You are left to wonder the extent people will go because of an election.

As some one campaigning for my party, I have restricted myself to the truth, and I will continue to do so. Every statement I make to buttress the need for a change in the governance of Anambra is the truth. All you hear me say about money I left; the accruals, total absence of projects, my savings, are all verifiable.

As the issue is becoming controversial, how much exactly did you leave?
There is nothing controversial about it. Some people are deliberately introducing controversy where none exists. All my life, I have managed money. I started business early in life, right from my primary school. By the time I got to the university, I was already travelling outside the country for business. Even as a student, other students gave me money to hold for them, because they knew that with me, their money was secured.

Whether in business or government, my attitude to money remains essentially one- prudence. Now to your question of how much I left. On the 17th of March, 2014, that I left office, I left a total of N25 billion cash; another N23,600,000,000 set aside to execute some projects already identified or to finish critical projects already on. It was part of the two- year salary for the last set of civil servants we recruited – we did so in order not to encumber the new governor. Ironically, because these funds were tied to specific projects like the Amawbia to Amansea road, the NYSC main office at Umuawulu/Mbaukwu, the hotels, malls.

We also had critical projects like the Three Arms Zone, which included Governor's Lodge. We did not include them in our hand over notes. So if you are talking about total naira I left, it is actually N48,600,000,000. I will give you the breakdown of all the banks. (Showed all the bank statements, account names, banks and certified bank statements.) In dollar component, I left $156 million. We had $56 million in Fidelity Bank, $50 million in Access Bank and $50 million in Diamond Bank. Today, going by the current dollar rate, the accruals and others, the money is about N200 billion. We laid a solid foundation for my successor to start strong.

Let me give you an example, toward the end of our government; we decided to build the new three arms zone, comprising the lodge, legislative building, and the judiciary complex. We awarded the contract at N8 billion and paid N2 billion. We awarded and commenced some roads, paid mobilisation and left my predecessor to perform their flag-off. We also did a lot of ground work in our relationship with the Federal Government in different ways.

We, for instance, commenced the roadwork from the Head Bridge to Umunya, after obtaining the written permission of the Federal Government to pay us back. After that portion, we got the permission to do Amawbia junction to Amansea, which I started. Part of the plan was to do Amawbia Junction to Umunya until the entire Express is completed. We are not losing anything since we will be paid back. There was also the dualisation of a road that we call 'Three-Three' (Onitsha to Otuocha Junction.) These were some of the roads we set aside money for, among other things.

The government claims you left a debt of N127 billion?
The day I left office, I did not have any unpaid certificate of work that had been executed. I did not have any certificate of supply that was delivered that was not paid for. As an accountant I expect him to know that contracts are not debts until executed. He was just trying to confuse the people through half-truths. Let him explain to the people that he included contracts yet to be executed.

When I became Governor in 2006, Dr. Chris Ngige awarded the reconstruction of Zik's Avenue – the major road in Awka, and a lot of other roads. These were ongoing projects. Because he paid for all the certificates generated, I did not say, based on the contracts unexecuted, that he left me with debts. No contractor came to me saying Ngige owed him.

Likewise, ask the governor to tell you how many contractors came to complain that Peter Obi owed them. The biggest contractor we had when I was in office was RCC and IDC, go and ask them if I owed them. Our biggest supplier was Innoson, Coscharis, and HP. In each case, I paid them in advance. I bought over 1000 vehicles from Innoson and paid him at least six months to one year before he supplied me one; the same with HP. As Governor, I had dedicated amount I shared among the contractors once allocations came. That was why, under me, work went on non-stop.

What is happening shows the quality they've reduced governance to in my state today. It shouldn't be. It's like a situation where they say "my government was able to export vegetables worth $5 million." Where was that vegetable produced? What was the refrigeration process? Where is the documentation process?

It is like also saying "my government is exporting rice." You saw the president on October 1, thanking states that are producing rice, he did not even include Anambra State that is now, according to the governor, a net exporter of rice. They say, "my government had the order to export 10 million tubers of yam," but everybody knows that in Anambra State most of the yams we eat come from Benue and Taraba states.

I think what is happening is that in the absence of executed projects to use to campaign, as Cicero advised Quintus, they are inventing lies and dressing them as the truth. Have you asked yourself why all this controversy about the money I left now that there is an election?

How would you react to the claim by Obiano that you demanded N7.5 billion from him?
This is another regrettable lie. On 23rd December 2016, he came to my house for the first time after he became governor. He came with an ordained bishop, to plead for reconciliation and to ask for my support for his re-election bid.

There, I asked him about the N7.5 billion (story of me asking him for N7.5 billion), and he said it did not come from him, that he only heard it from people. Now he is the one saying it. I'm sure the bishop will be listening to us. And other people who have been in the same meeting with him and I where I have reiterated that I do not want any kobo from him will know that I have never, on my own honour, asked Obiano to pay me money. I have not even been paid my severance allowance since I left office, which I am entitled to. I just told you what I left in office. Nobody has ever left one dollar.

If I were desperate, I could have comfortably taken just $30m, and it will remain $126m. Nobody on earth will leave money and go and beg the person he left the money for to give him some.

Big & Beautiful: The Lives Of Plus-Size Ladies

Posted: 23 Oct 2017 01:14 AM PDT

Plus size women are generally socially frowned upon and openly shunned by people especially those in the fashion industry, modeling agencies and even in dating.

In the African setting, obesity in women is endemic given that socio-cultural practices, carbohydrated tropical foods and other factors lead to it. In many cases, the 'fattening room culture' practiced by people of Efik/Ibibio descent in Cross River/Akwa Ibom states for marriageable brides comes to bear; while the Igbo and Yoruba people see huge waist lines in women.

Besides, African women have the tendency to blow up after child birth and in some cases, acknowledged by some as evidence of healthy living. Over time, plus size ladies have come to be psychologically ostracized and become a social issue and subject of discourse among health and well-being experts, giving room to debates and seminars on how to change the perception about being plump. Modeling agencies and fashion designers are not left out in this changing narrative redirecting the mind on how big beautiful and bold a plus size woman can be.

The commercial view that all women seen as trendy should be very thin in order to be fashionable is fading as more women embrace their plus-size and curvy figures.

Also, modeling agencies have come to terms with accommodating and featuring plus size women in their shows and fashion runways. Currently, it is fashionable to see a plus size cute model at events as ushers. Needless to say that there's a new movement in the fashion industry – an industry that once shunned plus size and larger women is now expanding to welcome bigger and bold women.

Curvy vs Plus Size: For Jennifer Enujiugha, the Anambra born Nollywood actress, model, choreographer and crowned queen, 'Miss Curvy Nigeria Top Model'; "Plus-sized women and models are not appreciated as they ought to be in Nigeria..."

Policeman Breaks Electricity Worker’s Leg For Disconnecting Ex-Police IG’s House

Posted: 23 Oct 2017 01:14 AM PDT

A worker with the Eko Electricity Distribution Company, Dele Ogundele, has been hospitalised after he was "brutalised" by a police sergeant attached to a house reportedly owned by a former Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Abubakar.

The mobile policeman, Attah Aninoko, on Thursday dragged down Ogundele from an electric pole that is opposite the house and beat him up for disconnecting power the former IG's house.
Ogundele's leg was allegedly broken by the sergeant, who was reported to have boasted that "nothing will happen."

The matter was said to have been reported to police at Ikoyi division and the sergeant was arrested.

Head of Corporate Communications Department, Eko Electricity Distribution Company (EKEDC), Mr. Godwin Idemudia, who confirmed the incident, said the sergeant had been detained.

He told Punch that the house of the former IG owed a bill of N154,693.85, adding that the name on the bill was one Yusuf.

He said, "What we do is that anytime customers don't respond and pay their bills, we go out with copies of their bills. When we get to their houses, we tell them what they owe and ask if they had made any payment in the last 24 hours. If they can't produce any evidence of such, we disconnect their electricity.

"That was what we did in this case. We had two of our vehicles working in the area on that day. On getting to the house around 12noon on Thursday, October 19, a man came out and we asked for evidence of payment because we discovered that the house owed over N154,000. When he couldn't produce it, we said we would disconnect the power. The man flared up.

"The mobile policeman came out, and while our official was disconnecting the power from the pole, he ordered him to come down. In fact, he dragged the official down and beat him up. In the process, the official sustained injuries and his left leg was broken."

Idemudia said because the policeman was armed, other officials of the electricity distribution firm were helpless and could only watch their colleague being brutalised.

He said policemen from the Ikoyi division were alerted and the cop was arrested. Ogundele was said to have been taken to a hospital.

"When he was taken to the station, he started boasting that nothing would come out of the case. We believe that nobody is above the law. The case should not be swept under the carpet. The Divisional Police Officer has assured us that justice would be served," he added.

But the Lagos Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Olarinde Famous-Cole, denied that Ogundele's leg was broken, adding that the power company was being mischievous.

He said, "This people know that the property belongs to a former civil servant and they are just trying to be mischievous.

"They came and said the house owed some bills and before the residents could go in to bring out their record, they had cut off power. There were policemen in the area and they tried to intervene.

"There was nobody that suffered any broken leg or any injury. Care should be taken not to damage the good name of the former civil servant. The DPO is trying to mediate and the case is under investigation."

EFCC Exposes Maina's "Fraud": How He Paid $2m Cash For Abuja Mansion

Posted: 23 Oct 2017 12:44 AM PDT

Wanted top civil servant AbdulRasheed Maina bought a $2million mansion in Abuja, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has revealed.

The mansion was allegedly acquired by Maina when he was chairman of the controversial Presidential Task Force Team on Pension Reforms.

Maina has a big case pending before a Federal high Court before he escaped. He has been reinstated as director, an action that is making Nigerians ask if Buhari is truly fighting corruption.

Maina was declared wanted by the EFCC in November 2015 for alleged fraud. The EFCC reported him to the International Police (INTERPOL).

Surprisingly, he resurfaced this month as an acting director in the Ministry of Interior.

An EFCC fact-sheet shows that Maina was under probe for multiple allegations, including fraudulent biometric contracts, which resulted in the mismanagement of over N2billion of pension funds and acquisition of choice mansions in Abuja.

According to the document, an investigative team led by Habibu Aliyu, an EFCC official, uncovered how Maina paid $2million for a property at 10, Amisi Musa Street in Jabi Lake, Abuja.

Part of the fact sheet says: "Our findings confirmed that he paid $2million for the house in cash in one day when he was the chairman of the Pension Reform Task Team.

"Investigation showed that the house was sold to him in June 2012 by one Adamu Modibbo. It is located at 10, Amisi Musa Street, Jabi Lake Area. The house was bought at the time he was in charge of pension reform.

"The EFCC marked the house as a property under investigation but all the marks were removed and the walls repainted. Maina has other properties which he acquired as an Assistant Director in the Federal Civil Service."

The Nation reports that the fact-sheet gives an insight into attempts to bring Maina to book, including when he relocated to Dubai in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

The document states: "Maina was declared wanted by the EFCC. On November 11, 2015, the EFCC wrote to the Inspector-General of Police, with an attention to the Commissioner of Police (INTERPOL), requesting for the publication of Abdulrasheed Maina on INTERPOL Red Alert.

"The letter sought assistance for the arrest of Maina who has a fraud case, FHC/ABJ/ CR/, requesting for the publication of Abdulrasheed Maina on INTERPOL Red Alert.

"The letter sought assistance for the arrest of Maina who has a fraud case, FHC/ABJ/ CR/97/ 2015 dated July 10, 2015."

A source told our correspondent: "This INTERPOL step was taken barely a week after Ibrahim Magu took over as the Acting Chairman of EFCC.

"It will be interesting to tell you that when we sent the letter to the INTERPOL initially, it got missing, but unknown to them, we had the acknowledged copy. We were undeterred; we had series of correspondences with the INTERPOL.

"After many months, on January 12, 2016, the commission received a response from INTERPOL acknowledging the receipt of the letter to place Maina on Red Alert.

"But INTERPOL requested for more information to take some steps. This was the position in INTERPOL while the EFCC went ahead with the trial of Maina and others."

It was learnt that the EFCC was on the trail of Maina.

"Our detectives are on standby to arrest him any moment from now. We are already trailing his whereabouts. As of Sunday, he was said to have shifted base to Kaduna.

"I can tell you that Maina, who was declared wanted by EFCC, is being protected by some armed policemen. No one knows how he came about special protection."

The EFCC had on November 2, 2015 declared the former Chairman of the Pension Reform Task Team wanted.

A statement by the Head of Media and Publicity of EFCC, Wilson Uwujaren, said Maina was wanted for his alleged role in the fraudulent biometric contracts through which he and former Head of Service Steve Oronsaye and two others allegedly mismanaged over N2billion of pension funds.

The statement said: "Indeed, since the Commission filed charges against Maina, more damning evidence have emerged on how the ebullient former Pension Task Team boss siphoned pension funds using secret accounts in a new generation bank in Abuja.

"Two officers of the bank were quizzed two weeks ago. Commission's sources said they made damning revelations of several opaque transactions through which Maina allegedly lined his pockets at the expense of thousands of hapless pensioners."

So Sad! Kidnapped Priest Killed In Botched Rescue Operation

Posted: 23 Oct 2017 12:44 AM PDT

Suspected kidnappers have killed the chaplain to Bishop of the African Church, Ondo Central Diocese, Revd. David Ayeola.

The gunmen shot Ayeola dead in a botched rescue operation after the church could not pay the N100m ransom the kidnappers demanded. The church had offered N500,000 instead.

The remains of the victim had been deposited in a morgue.

The later Ayeola, the bishop, Samuel Ojo; and the bishop's wife were travelling to Abeokuta, Ogun State, from Imojo Ekiti, Ekiti State, when they were waylaid by the gunmen on the road.

The bishop, his wife, Ayeola, and the driver of the car were said to have fled into the bush.

A source said, "While others escaped, the chaplain was caught and abducted by the gunmen. They later contacted the headquarters of the church at Akure and demanded N100m. The church, however, offered them N500,000, which they turned down."

Another leader of the African Church told Punch that the church's leadership involved the Ekiti State Police Command in the rescue of the priest.

He explained that while trying to buy time with negotiation, the police also closed in on the hideout of the abductors.

"On Saturday, police swooped on the hideout of the kidnappers and there was an exchange of gunfire between them.

"The police team was overpowered and the kidnappers decided to shoot the priest. He was shot in the side; they (kidnappers) left his corpse behind. The family has taken the body to the morgue."

When contacted, the Diocesan Public Relations Officer, Alex Akande, said he could not talk about the incident, adding that the church's leadership would meet on Monday (today).

Ayeola was not married and he had only recently finished from the seminary.

A check on his Facebook page showed that although he rarely used social media, he sometime waxed philosophical.

The Ekiti State Police Public Relations Officer, Adeyemi Ademola, confirmed the death.

He said, "Yesterday evening (Saturday), we received intelligence about where the reverend was being kept by the kidnappers. The police and some hunters went to rescue him. We discovered that the place was a very thick forest.

"When the kidnappers noticed that the police and the hunters were coming, they shot the reverend and escaped.

"We went after them for a while, but the team had to turn back when it was getting dark. This was to avoid endangering the lives of members of the team in a terrain that the kidnappers may be more familiar with. We took the reverend to a general hospital, but sadly, we lost him."
