Failed Promises Posted: 29 Dec 2017 10:29 PM PST  In a statement issued on Friday by its National Publicity Secretary, Mr. Kola Ologbondiyan, the party said Nigerians have become overstretched by the litany of woes visited on them in the last two years by the incompetent and pretentious APC administration. It stressed that it would be the height of callousness for the ruling party and its government to spew another round of propaganda and false hope in the name of New Year messages. The party said: "What else would they tell Nigerians apart from inventing new lies and propaganda as they had always done, particularly at the turn of each New Year." The PDP noted that the administration has been reeling out false promises year-in-year-out even when it has no intention of fulfilling them. It added: "What is the need for their yearly assurances when the only thing we see is an arrogant and incompetent government plunging the nation into economic recession and visiting the citizens with the worst forms of untold hardship. "What seriousness should any Nigerian attach to a government that takes governance for granted, puts off its Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting at the slightest whims and blame imaginary invasion of its offices by rats for the inability to meet required statutory functions? "What else should Nigerians expect from a government that promised massive employments only to render 7.74 million Nigerians jobless between 2016 and September 2017; with combined unemployment and underemployment rate hitting 40.0 per cent as declared by the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS). "This is the same APC that promised to deliver naira exchange at N1 to $1 but ended up wrecking the currency from N160-N170 to a scandalous N350-N400; the same party and its government promised to reduce the price of fuel only for it to rise from where the PDP left it at N86.50 to N300-N400 per litre. "What do we expect from a government that so devastated the economy in 2017 that Nigerians were forced to turn to Ponzi schemes like the Mavrodi Mundial Movement (MMM) for survival only for an estimated three million of them to lose about N18 billion in the process. | Soldier, Three Others Arrestes For Hijacking Petrol Tanker Posted: 29 Dec 2017 10:04 PM PST  Arrested with him were three other suspects. The four were paraded on Friday before journalists by the state Commissioner of Police, Abiodun Odunde. According to the police commissioner, the suspects were picked up on November 11. Odunde said investigation revealed that the gang was responsible for waylaying and hijacking trucks along the expressway. He said: "The gang led by the soldier hijacked a 40,000 litre truck with registration number ABJ 132XA at about 9:30 p.m. and abducted the driver and the conductor. "They later took them to Omi-Adio after robbing them of their money and valuables and thereafter drove the truck to Akure/Ilesa road. "The alarm raised by the victim attracted some members of the community who alerted the police that led to their arrest and also recovered the truck." The police also presented 17 other suspects including an employee of George Investment Company, Ibadan, who stole six Sino trucks and a Toyota Camry car belonging to the company. Odude said investigation conducted by the Special Anti-Robbery Squad led to the arrest of the suspect and one other in Edo and Abuja. The police commissioner said the six trucks were sold in Kaduna at the rate of N20 million, while the Camry car was given to a yet-to-be identified pastor in Abuja. "As a result of diligent investigation by the SARS, all the trucks and two other cars were recovered and the criminal receiver also arrested." At least 10 other suspects were arrested for alleged stealing, cultism, armed robbery, unlawful possession of counterfeit currency and impersonation. Law enforcement sources told ABC that the brothers, who are both American citizens, each had tickets to Tokyo; one ticket was for ANA and the other was for United Airlines. Both men, however, boarded Teigen's ANA flight. They were interviewed by authorities after landing back at LAX and released, according to ABC. The brothers have not yet been charged, but the FBI is reportedly weighing criminal charges. . The airline could also face fines from the U.S. Customs and Border Protection. ANA apologized to the customers on the flight in a statement Wednesday. Those on flight NH175 were handed 30,000 Japanese Yen upon finally landing in Japan, according to a spokesperson for the airline. The 30,000 converted to U.S. dollars comes out to around $265 - likely not enough to cover their flights. An individual seat on an ANA flight from LAX to Tokyo runs between $500 to $600 roundtrip, according to Google Flights.  Teigen spent the eight-hour "flight to nowhere" tweeting the ordeal. Entitled Compulsory Treatment and Care for Victims of Gunshot Act, 2017,it was among the six so signed by the President. Mr. Ita Enang, the Senior Special Assistant to the President on National Assembly Matters (Senate), told State House correspondents in Abuja that the Gunshot Act specifically stipulates that a person with gunshot shall be received for immediate and adequate treatment by any hospital in Nigeria with or without initial monetary deposit. He explained that "furthermore, a person with gunshot wound shall not be subjected to inhuman and degrading treatment or torture by any person or authority, including the police and other security agencies." He told STAT and the Boston Globe that he was flown to Los Angeles for the show's taping and was sober when he arrived. Then, he found a bottle of vodka in his set's dressing room. Herzog said a show staffer also gave him a Xanax so it could "calm his nerves" before his appearance. When he went on the show, he appeared drunk and looked like he was struggling to walk.  "Today, I had an entire bottle, like a liter, of vodka," Herzog told McGraw on stage. A Breathalyzer test showed he blew .263 — more than three times the legal limit. "On road projects, we have to thank President Buhari for putting extra efforts and may Allah continue to give him good health and strength to continue. "I know he is going to inaugurate some projects in 2018 and those not completed will be completed during his second term," he said. Gaya said he was in the Presidential Villa to thank Buhari for visiting Kano State recently. He said he was happy that the present administration had awarded the road projects from Kano to Abuja which will cost N165bn. The senator said, "I am the Chairman of Works Committee. No government for the past 16 years has been able to put so much money on road project like this government. "The budget of 2011-2014, it was only N26bn that was allocated to works but in 2016 when President Buhari came in, we had a budget of over N200 bn for works and in 2017 we have over N400bn and for 2018, we have about N500bn for works. "So we are rehabilitating our roads and those that were abandoned for years the contractors have gone back to site. "I have gone round 26 states of the federation as Chairman Senate Committee on Works, is remaining the states in the south-west and three states in the north-west for me to visit. | Kano Police Command records 334 rape cases in 2017 | Mr Olumide's Blog Posted: 29 Dec 2017 09:27 AM PST  The command Public Relations Officer (PPRO) DSP Magaji Majiya disclosed this while briefing newsmen on the command's year review in Kano. "Five Hundred and Forty Seven cases of rape and other sexual offences were reported in 2016 while 334 cases were received in 2017, indicating a major reduction in committing crimes in the state," he said. According to him, the command had recorded 601 major crimes, recovered 35 stolen vehicles and recovered N744.6 million property in the period under review. Majiya noted that the rate of crime had drastically gone down in the year under review considering the adequate security arrangements strategically deployed in the State and the number of criminals arrested with the synergy of the public and stakeholders involved. He said 52 kidnapped victims were rescued and reunited with their respective families, 73 different types of local arms and 273 live ammunitions were recovered from suspects. "In the year 2016 the command witnessed 72 cases of armed robbery with 117 suspects arrested, while for the current year (2017), only 35 cases of robbery were reported and 76 suspects arrested. According to him, the command had successfully arrested 497 members of different gangs of Yandaba (miscreants) in collaboration with traditional rulers and other security agencies.
