Kidnapper Evans Also Involved In Crimes In South Africa, More Of His Associates Arrested | Mr Olumide's Blog

Posted: 13 Aug 2017 04:08 AM PDT

New report following on going investigation of suspected kidnap kingpin, Chukwudumeme Onwuamadike, alias Evans, has revealed that he was also involved in crimes in South Africa.
Police spokesman, Mr. Moshood Jimoh, told The Nation that wealthier associates of Evans, have been uncovered during the on going investigation.

He said:

"You may recall that a Federal High Court granted us a three month remand warrant for Evans. We are just into the second month now and before the expiration of the third month, it is expected that we should be taking him to court.

The little time is to ensure that we conduct a thorough and detailed investigation. So we need a little time to properly round things up and ensure that he is properly prosecuted because Nigerians will not be happy if we lose such a case in court on the basis of technical matters." .
"In the course of this investigation we have other prime suspects including people who broke away from Evans' gang to start their own gang – they left Evans to go and do a similar (kidnapping) business.
Some of the suspects we later picked after detectives' interactions with Evans are even living larger than Evans. We are going to ensure that we don't make things public until we gather all our evidence towards securing a conviction in court. .
I won't give you figures but they are many suspects. There is a special group of criminal suspects that are referred to as 'catchers'; in criminal syndicates, they are the people that identify targets and give information about innocent people."

Nollywood Actress: "I Come From A Christian Family, I Can't Act Nude"

Posted: 13 Aug 2017 03:29 AM PDT

Nollywood actress, Felicia Fred, who has featured in over eight movies and bagged an endorsement deal with an energy drink, recently had a chat with a Vanguard correspondent, where she talked about s*x in the movie industry, her aspirations and more.

According to the actress, she's not interested in s*x as all she wants now is to work hard and make money.

Here are excerpts from the interview;

What's your love life like?
My love life? I have no comment. It's not my priority at the moment.

So no man has ever rocked your world?
I think my career should rock my world for now. Before I went into Nollywood I had to school and I come from a very religious family. I had very strict upbringing. For now, I am more focused on my career.

You said you're from a religious background; how will your dad feel if he sees that twerking video?
I know he might complain, he will be sad but I will tell him that twerking is an African dance, and I am a proud African, as a proud African twerking is part of our cultural dance. That's what I will use to convince him because I know he will scream.

As far as acting goes; what's the limit for you?
I know I can never go Unclad on screen. I want to be in a movie where anybody that sees it could be inspired and want to be an actress. I know I have admired a lot of people in the past like, Joke Silva, Liz Benson, and these are people that when you see their movies, even kids, learn a lot. Perhaps, if I haven't seen people like that on screen I wouldn't have been this hungry or passionate about acting. I would love to interpret my roles but there is a limit to what I can act. Even at this stage as an upcoming actress I select my roles, I select the kind of movies I do because I want to teach lessons of life by my movies.

What do you really want out of life?
I want to be what God wants me to be. If there is anything I am scared of it's not being what I am capable of being. I want to keep going higher, I don't want to be contented till the day I die. I want to keep working harder, no matter the amount of deals I get, I just want to keep pushing, because on the career you can never be there. Look at Rihanna for instance, she's a musician but still, she went into her clothing line, shoe line and earrings line and she's still pushing; that's what I want for myself. So, no matter what I achieve in life I want to keep pushing till the day I die.

When will you feel s*xually harassed?
To be honest, in this modern age, I don't think people harass people s*xually. It is all about consent; when you are approached you have the right to decline or oblige. If a director says he wants to sleep with you, it is up to you to accept or refuse. But these days the directors are more of victims than the girls, they literally throw themselves at them. They are so desperate that they tell them things like; I have bigger hips than Mercy Johnson give me the role; I have bigger ass than Omotola give me the role and on and on it goes. If you see a director's phone you will be shocked to see the number of WhatsApp messages he gets from actresses begging him and telling him what they can do, on and off set. So, these days it's not more of anybody wants to sleep with, it more like the other way round.

Can marriage or money stop you from acting?
No, because it's my passion, it's what I love to do. Long before now when I did certain things, like the way I react to certain things, people asked me if I were an actress or if I wanted to go into acting, because they already saw that thing in me. I love to act and nothing can stop me from being an actor, I might do other things but I will still act even if it means acting one movie in a year.

Money, love and s*x; which is important to you?
To me its money, because when you have love and you don't have money it fades, it dies, you can't sustain it. The country is hard, the economy is hard, and everything is money. For s*x, it is not important to me because it can't be my interest where money is.

So Many Bitter And Angry People In The World - Toke Makinwa | Mr Olumide's Blog

Last week was a stressful one for media girl, Toke Makinwa, who was severely dragged by internet trolls for several reasons.

One of such was whats-app calls which she claims isn't ideal in her relationship as a girl who cares so much about a girl should recharge his phone and call her number.

This caused several reactions online with a Nollywood actor daring to slam her on IG.

Well Toke is back with an answer, as she took to twitter to bare her mind.

I Am Not Retiring Anytime Soon - Sola Sobowale | Mr Olumide's Blog

Posted: 13 Aug 2017 03:13 AM PDT

Veteran act Sola Sobowale, has made it known she has no plans of retiring from the movie world anytime soon.

Aunty Sola, as she is fonmdly called sat down for an interview with The Nation where she discuseed her new movie, career and more.

Read interview below:

Why did you decide to partner in Gold Statue?

First of all, being part of the production is a privilege as both a producer and as an actor. Also, working with Tade Ogidan is another level. Anyone who knows Tade Ogidan knows that he is a perfectionist. A scene in a movie with him can be taken as much as 50 times. Gold Statue is a movie that teaches, that we are going to tap from positively, that is full of fun, action, drama, and is a thriller. It is everything in one. It is a full package and I'm so happy that I'm on board.

What role did you play in the movie?

I play the role of a mother. There are mothers and there are mothers. There are different types of mothers. And I'm glad to have played this role because I asked myself what I am giving to the people. I then said to myself, 'Sola, people love you, so what do you give back?' So I decided to give back by teaching people. I decided to give back so that people can learn from me. And this is a big platform. It is another channel to showcase what I've got. What is the definition of a mother? What are the roles of mothers? Are they known to be just baby factories, to be popping out babies? What are their roles? What are you supposed to do as a mother? Because the word 'mother' is full of meaning. It's very huge and until you do your duty as a mother, that is when you can be called a mother. A mother is different from a wife and a wife is different from a mother. In Gold Statue, we will be getting these answers. And I love playing the motherly role.

But that is what you've been playing…

But this one is different. They are two parallel lines that can never meet. As I explained, there are different kinds of mothers. There are the ones that are just making noise, and there are mothers who are real.

What should people look out for in the movie?

They should look out for fun, tears, emotion, and a lot of noise. It is the full package.

There is this charm you bring into your movies. How do you do it?

It is your prayers, because without prayers, without God, Sola Sobowale will not be standing. Without you people, Sola Sobowale will not be in existence. So I thank you all for all the support and I pray to God that I will not let you down.

You are also in The Wedding Party 2. How did that go?

Just keep your fingers crossed. In December, when the movie is released, go out and watch it (laughs). If you saw part one, then it is a continuation of what you watched. And Patience Ozorkwo is also in the movie to add spice to it.

When you look at your life as an actress, do you feel fulfilled?

There is a lot I would still like to do. So I still need support. Sola Sobowale is well known as an actress, but how has she impacted on the lives of people? That is something I really want to look into. I have this project that I need financiers for. It is a project that is for children, the underprivileged and the elderly. That is what I want to do that is eating me seriously. And I pray to God almighty that a way breaks through for me soon.

Have you started working on it?

Everything is done, the paperwork is all complete, what is left is to find partners who are willing to go all the way. As I said, the project is for the underprivileged, the vulnerable adults and I pray interested people call me so I can give them the full details.

What are your plans for the remaining part of the year?

I'm not stopping. This is what I know how to do. I'm still working. After this movie, I will do another one.

So you are not planning to resign soon?

Haa! Aunty Taiwo Lycette is still there, what are you talking about? Mind yourself o! (Laughs).

I Am Waiting For My Doctors To Give Me The Green Light To Travel - President Buhari | Mr Olumide's Blog

Posted: 13 Aug 2017 02:47 AM PDT

President Muhammadu Buhari has spoken from London, letting every Nigerian know he is okay and will soon be in the country.

Speaking with the media team who came to London to see him, Mr. President said he is only awaiting orders from his Doctors to travel, once he gets the green light, he will come back to Nigeria.

"I've learnt to obey my doctor's orders, rather than be the one issuing the orders. Here, the doctor is absolutely in charge," Buhari told his media team who had gone to the United Kingdom to see him.

The delegation, led by Information and Culture Minister Lai Mohammed, also comprised the President's Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mr Femi Adesina; the Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Mallam Garba Shehu; Personal Assistant on Digital/Online Media, Lauretta Onochie; and the Senior Special Assistant on Diaspora Matters, Mrs Abike Dabiri-Erewa.

"When the team expressed delight at the much improved health of the President, he retorted, 'I feel I could go home, but the doctors are in charge. I've now learnt to obey orders, rather than be obeyed."
When told that prayers were going on fervently for him, not only in Nigeria, but all over Africa, and round the world, he was quoted as saying: "What we did in The Gambia early this year fetched us a lot of goodwill on the African continent. It gave us a lot of latitude. I thank all those who are praying. May God reward them."

President Buhari, the statement said, sent appreciation to all Nigerians, expressing hope that he would be with them soon.

5 Ways To Deal With Uninvited Guests At Your Party

Posted: 13 Aug 2017 02:29 AM PDT

Hosting a party be it a wedding, housewarming or birthday party is a monumental and painstaking task. You have to make provision food, security as well as shelter for some of your guests. Obviously, you simply want the day to pass by smoothly without any incident.

However, as typical of parties in a city like Lagos, you can barely host a party without somebody gatecrashing. After all, your party is not a free for all and if you ignore them, the gatecrasher acts like a legitimate guest, eating, and drinking indiscriminately.

And before you know it, foods and drinks are all exhausted. If you do not want such a disruption at your party, Jumia Travel shares ways you can deal with these party gatecrashers.

Plan ahead
You should always expect gatecrashers at your party because they will always come around. You are the one that will determine the outcome of your party by putting necessary measures in place to stop them from gaining access to your party.

Recruit security men or bouncers
Never organize a gig without a level of security presence. This will ordinarily send a strong signal to gatecrashers that they are unwelcomed. However, if there is no security presence, it means anyone can stream in and stream out of your party. So, when your valuables go missing, it is very likely it has been snatched by an uninvited guest.

Wristband
Today wristbands are used to grant access to a club or music party. So, whoever is not wearing the wristband is automatically a gatecrasher or an uninvited guest.

No IV, No entry
Make it very clear to your guests that they should not attend your party without their invitation card. Don't compromise this conviction except you can identify them which you may probably not have time for. You can include that the IV admits 5 people because Nigerians always come with their friends or families.

Ask them to leave
There is no way you can stop all gatecrashers from gaining entry into your party. At the same time, you can identify them through their sometimes embarrassing actions. They will be the first to collect items that are distributed at the party. Don't hesitate to ask them who they are. If they cannot give you a convincing answer, just ask them to leave. If they refuse, call your security men to throw them out.

Yes I Collapsed But The Protest Will Continue Until Buhari Returns Home - Charly Boy | Mr Olumide's Blog

Posted: 13 Aug 2017 02:17 AM PDT

Charles Oputa, aka Charly Boy, made news again when he set out on a protest in Abuja but ended up collapsing following tear gas released into the air.

Speaking without Sunday Scoop about the protest, he said:
"It is true that I collapsed. The tear gas made me dizzy and I fell. I also stand by my words that a police officer hit me with his gun. The government is a lie and so is the police force. Everybody is lying and in deceit mode. If Nigerian people believe their government and police, then so be it. I have told you what happened. It is not my job to be trading words about whether or not it happened. My focus is on what we're doing. The mistake the police made was to face the protesters as if they (police) had come for war. Meanwhile, they cannot face Boko Haram and armed robbers. They prefer to bully ordinary citizens."

Speaking further on what actually transpired on the fateful day, he said, "They didn't want us to continue the protest regardless of the fact that we had written to them that it would last for two weeks. They reluctantly agreed because we spoke with all the security agencies. I guess they were overwhelmed with the attention we were getting and they came out in full force to make sure we did not gather. On that particular day, it wasn't even a rally; it was just the normal sit-out where we would gather and sit down in public for some hours. On that day, we were only seven that were there. The security operatives were on edge and they didn't want us to start attracting other people. So they turned their tear gas, water cannon and attack dogs on us. Later on, they said it wasn't us they were targeting, that they were aiming for the miscreants around. Meanwhile, they fired the tear gas and water cannon straight at us. Ironically, they got more bad publicity for their action. Anyway, we continued the protest after that day and we would still go on. We plan to continue the protest till the president returns to the country. If the president was my father, I would carry him out of that office and get him proper treatment and rest. But we know that his hands are tied personally. He is not really the one running Nigeria; it is a cabal." he said.

Charly Boy: Biafra Will Not Change Anything, It Will Only Increase Suffering

Posted: 13 Aug 2017 01:34 AM PDT

Here's a letter written by Charlyboy Oputa to Igbos warning them over the Agitation for Biafra. It reads;

Letter To Fellow Biafrans: I know some of my Igbo brothers and sisters are not happy with me simply because I have not used My Brand as CharlyBoy to advocate for the clamour of The Biafran state.

However, like I always say, there is more than one way to achieve a purpose.

Though I may disagree with my Igbo brothers and sisters on the choice of rhetorics and methodology, our objectives are to a large extent identical because we all want to bring an end to the marginalisation of the common peoples, by the evil cabals who are holding Nigeria to a ransom and getting away with their obnoxious impunity and criminality.

Those who truly know and have followed me know that I am not a Group soul and I have always dared to follow the path least travelled in the continuous struggle to add value to my environment.

It is indeed laughable that despite being a native chicken, Nwa afo, son of Biafran soil with a full-blown Igbotic blood, I have been persistently labelled a wannabe Yoruba, Hausa, Tiv and an Ijaw man simply because I have consistently maintained that I believe in the unity of Nigeria.

To start with, I go like tell una sey you may not be totally wrong if you call me the man from all tribes in Nigeria. This is because I believe in the oneness of all Nigerian peoples. I believe that we have gotten to a point in our national history where a Yoruba man cannot live in isolation of an Igbo man. Likewise, an Ijaw man cannot live in isolation of a Hausa/Fulani man. All tribes in Nigeria today have become a mat of interwoven fibres that cannot be segregated. There have so far been intertribal marriages, intertribal business ownership, and intertribal partnership; and countless other intertribal collaborations and relationships in Nigeria.

For this reason, my question to those agitating for secession would be that if each tribe decide to secede from Nigeria today, what then would happen? Who would lead the new nations?

Will the people be happy? Will injustice be defeated in the new societies? Will criminality end in leadership positions? Will there be happiness in the new nations? Will the people finally have a country to call their own? – These are important questions we must ask ourselves and provide answers to before we even start to beat the drums of secession.

Having said that, I must state that whereas I am a Biafran at heart, what should engage our minds is not a sectional Biafra but a national Biafra. The fight for nationalists who will drive the discourse and the engagement necessary in answering the Nigeria National Questions must not be bogged down by petty sentiments, tribal colorations, and religious propaganda. The failure of the Igbo nation and all Nigerian tribes and peoples is the fault of influence peddlers and directionless decision makers.

The crux of the Biafran agitation is that my people are tired of a system that has perpetually failed them. My Igbo kinsmen are tired of a system that enriches the rich and impoverishes the poor. My people are tired of a system that glorifies impunity and criminality. My people are tired of decades of oppression and marginalization.

However, the deeply rooted disgruntlement in Biafra land is not peculiar to my Igbo brothers and sisters alone; all the common peoples in the 500 tribes in Nigeria are victims of a failed system and persistent oppression. And this is essentially where I disagree with my brother Nnamdi Kanu that though Biafra is right, it should be a national cause and not a sectional one.

Let me be clear: The Brand CharlyBoy is not only a Global brand but also a national brand that should not be reduced to a sectional brand.

The problem in this nation is not the lack of a space where we all can coexist but the lack of men of integrity and progressive nationalists. We lack the right kind of leadership that will fight for the interest of the common people. And if at all there would be an agitation, it should be geared towards sanitizing the currently bastardized Nigerian system.

Our agitation for Biafra should be about having the right leaders in positions of power and not power drunken people with an insatiable appetite to plunder and loot.

Therefore, my people, I insist that the suffering of the People from the South East is also the suffering of the people from the other geopolitical zones in Nigeria. And the oppression of the Igbo people is also the oppression of all Nigerian peoples. An injury to one is an injury to all. A Biafra state is not going to change the players of the game, it will only exacerbate the sufferings of the victims of the game.

In conclusion, my people, let us dutifully work ourselves back into reckoning by fighting for Fairness, Justice, and Equality for all Nigerians; Not Ibos Only; Yorubas Only or Hausas Only but all Nigerians.

Areafada CharlyBoy
President of All Frustrated Nigerians.

I See Nothing Wrong With Acting Nude - Ebube Nwagbo | Mr Olumide's Blog

Posted: 13 Aug 2017 01:17 AM PDT

Nollywood actress Ebube Nwagbo in a new interview has opened up on her career, life and more.

Read excerpts from her interview below:
How did you become an actress?

I went for an audition like every other person and luckily. I was picked and got the lead role.

What are you currently working on?

I have just released my second movie entitled, Not Enough. It is my second movie as a producer.

What inspired you to go into movie production?

It was the passion I have for what I do. I also thought it was time for me to spread my tentacles, try out other things and develop myself. Also, I wanted to give back to an industry that has given so much to me and made me who I am today.

What are the basic challenges you face as a producer?

There are lots of challenges one faces as a producer and they range from creativity to originality. There is also the challenge of trying to come up with something different from the norm because most people are into producing now. Besides that, funding a production is not easy because you invest a lot into the project. With the economic situation of the country now, making sales is not guaranteed. And being accepted as a producer is not that easy because it entails a lot to be a good one, it is not a joke.

What message are you trying to pass through the movie?

The movie is centered on the youths of today looking for short cuts. They want to have the shortest cut to success and accomplishments in life. We need to set our priorities right at an early stage in order to secure our future. The decisions you make today, the life you live today determines your future. The movie also sheds light on the young girls of today that get pregnant without prior planning or knowing what they really want in life, thinking that getting pregnant for a man will make him marry or love them. Love can't be forced. The movie, Not Enough also sheds light on weak parental guidance and peer pressure. It is a family story that has a lot of messages and lessons in it.

Has it been easy to combine acting and movie production?

It has not been easy combining acting and producing but it is what I love to do. It keeps me on my feet. I try to tell stories that are not only entertaining but also educating, stories with morals to learn from and messages to pass across.

Tell us about your most challenging movie role?

Every movie comes with its own challenges because you are being someone else at every point in time. But one of the most challenging movies ever was my first film as an actress. The movie was entitled, Arrested By Love. It was my first time facing the camera and I was playing lead. I didn't have an idea of what I was going into or what I was doing. But big thanks to the cast and crew of that amazing job. They believed in me more than I believed in myself.

What did you like about the character you played in that movie?

I loved the character I played in the movie because I was a born-again Christian who changed a bad boy to a good boy by simply being herself.

Can you go nude for a movie?

I don't think I can do that. However, I don't have anything against whoever can go all the way. It is you doing your job so it shouldn't be a problem, but personally I can't.

What part of your body do you treasure most?

I love every part of my body exactly the way God made it. I don't treasure any more than the other.

If you were to change anything in Nollywood, what could that be?

Stereotyping. One thing I would love to change in Nollywood is stereotyping. We should learn to have diverse characterisation. We all have been guilty of being stereotyped or stereotyping.

I failed to protect children from sexual predators - Archbishop confeses | Mr Olumide's Blog

Posted: 13 Aug 2017 01:17 AM PDT

The Roman Catholic archbishop of Lyon has confirmed the shortcomings in his response to a pedophilia scandal in his archdiocese.

Speaking with Le Monde, published ahead of the August 15 Feast of the Assumption celebration, Cardinal Philippe Barbarin said everything is being done to avoid past mistakes.

Barbarin reiterated that he had never concealed acts of sexual abuse by Fr. Bernard Preynat, a priest under his authority.

Preynat is accused of sexually abusing Catholic boy scouts during the 1980s and early 1990s.

Barbarin told Le Monde he became aware of Preynat's activities in 2007.

When he "knocked on doors" for advice nobody gave him a satisfactory answer, he said.
"I myself realise that my response at the time was inadequate," Barbarin told the newspaper.

He said no priest would again be welcomed into his archdiocese without written assurance from their bishop that there was no complaint or criminal conviction against them.

Compulsory training has also been introduced for priests under his authority.

Barbarin has been summoned as a witness on the request of the victims who filed the complaint against Preynat.

Barbarin said he understood their anger.

"Their suffering is as painful today as it was 30 years ago. For them, it is appalling and unacceptable that he was allowed to carry on serving as a priest," Barbarin said.

The archbishop said he respected next month's summons and urged Pope Francis to meet the victims at a later date too

Sexual abuse of children by Roman Catholic priests first made headlines in the U.S. in 2002, when a newspaper investigation revealed U.S. bishops had moved abusers from parish to parish instead of defrocking them. (Reuters/NAN)

My husband is the closest thing after God's existence. I am not saying he is perfect, but l love that man too much [Sings]. Sometimes I can't explain him. I am crazy about my husband. I do anything that makes him happy."

Why Nigeria Will Not Be Restructured - Shehu Sani

Posted: 12 Aug 2017 11:59 PM PDT

Kaduna central senator, Shehu Sani has openly stated that Nigeria will never be restructured before or after the 2019 elections.

Sani cautioned Nigerians not to be fooled by politicians, adding that politicians are engaging in cheap talks about restructuring in order to buy time before the campaign before the next round of general elections commences and then buries the issue of restructuring.

In a post on his social media page, Sani wrote;

"No 'restructuring' will take place before 2019; it will be all talks, storms and 'buying of time' until the drumbeat of elections eclipse that of 'restructuring

Restructuring will be in the campaign manual of all Nigerian political parties for 2019 general elections.

Some will even back it up with documents both soft and hard copies. Some will even share DVDs of how the polity will be restructured. After the elections then 'the Government needs to settle down'; then the 'Government need to study the document'."

Beauty: Five Signs That You Wear Too Much Makeup

Posted: 12 Aug 2017 11:29 PM PDT

Makeup is awesome. But, a lady who is dependent on makeup is not difficult to identify. It may be that the foundation is too much or your cheeks are overly pink. Hence, most ladies tend to overdo makeup to look pretty and beautiful.

Sometimes, ladies may not be aware of the fact that they are wearing too much makeup. Jumia Travel shares signs you are wearing too much makeup.

Your friends don't recognise you
If your friends cannot recognise you without makeup, it is a serious problem. Makeup can give you confidence, but you should not feel insecure about letting your natural beauty shine.

You cannot stay barefaced
Some ladies cannot leave their homes without makeup. They feel very incomplete and uncomfortable. Hence, most times, when you plan to leave home without makeup, you start applying some concealer to hide your blemishes and eventually go on to do the whole natural makeup.

You are always retouching
If you carry more than three retouch products chances are that you are overdoing your makeup. The maximum you need to carry is compact, lip balm and Kohl.

Your products get exhausted too quickly
With normal usage, your makeup should last for a few months, unless you are reusing a particular lipstick 3-4 times a day. But do your mascaras, foundations, eyeliners finish within a month? You are using makeup excessively for your face.

Your makeup messes up your stuff
Finding makeup smears on your phone and clothes means you didn't set your makeup well.

My Husband Sold Our Child - Wife Reveals | Mr Olumide's Blog

Posted: 12 Aug 2017 11:07 PM PDT

A 24-year old has revealed how the police caught her husband after he sold their child in Akwa- Ibom state.

She revealed how the father of her kids sold their 2-year old for N150,000.
Recently, you alerted the police that your husband sold your two-year-old son, Elisha. How did you get to know?

It all happened on Monday, July 24. I was lying down on the bed in our apartment when the father of my children came into the house and woke me up. He immediately requested that I go to my mother's place at Eta-Agbor Road in Calabar but I told him that I did not have transport fare and that I was also hungry. He went out and came back with N50 which he probably borrowed from someone. He told me to use it as transport fare to my mother's place. I preferred to use the money to buy garri because I was very hungry. He said he wanted me go to my mother's place because he was travelling to Akwa Ibom State. I asked if he was coming back that day and he said yes. At that point, our two-year-old boy, Elisha, was within the compound. I had asked Elisha not to go outside because, just like me, he was hungry. After our discussion, I went to take my bath.

When did you notice that your son was no longer in the compound?

I initially did not know his father had taken the boy outside the compound. It was another little child in the compound that told me that Elijah's father asked him to go outside the compound to play. The boy said that Elisha ran outside and had not returned. Then, I became curious and started shouting Elisha's name around and outside the compound. My husband's brother, living in the compound, asked what the problem was and I said I had not seen Elisha. Other tenants too asked the same question and I responded the same way.

Did you ask him before he left the house where he was going to in Akwa Ibom State?

He did not tell me exactly where he was going to in Akwa Ibom State. He only told me he was going to look for work there. But when I searched around and could not find Elisha, I immediately called him, asking if Elisha was with him. He said no. In fact, he said Elisha was playing outside the compound when he left the house. I told him that his brother had been outside and that we didn't see Elisha. We immediately began the search for Elisha in neighbouring streets but we didn't see him. The brother and I went as far as St. Bernard's School in Calabar-South where he (husband) always sat with friends to drink, but the people around said they did not see him. I screamed on the phone while talking with Elijah's father about the boy's whereabouts. For the second time, he denied. Even his brother also called him. The brother's wife called him but he continued denying. I shouted, cried and ran all the way to my mother's place to report the matter to her. My mother pleaded with me not to cry. She said that maybe he didn't want me to bring the child to her place. My mother assured me that he would bring the child back, although I did not believe.

Why didn't you believe her?

My inner mind kept revealing to me that the man went to sell the child. My mother warned me not to say that again. That Monday night, at about 7pm, I called him again after borrowing N100 from somebody to recharge my phone. I told him I still had not seen my child. He shouted on me on the phone, saying I was speaking nonsense. He kept denying my accusation.

Did he return from Akwa Ibom State that day?

No, he did not. On Tuesday, around 6am, I woke up, took my bath and called him again. He said he was on his way back to Calabar. I called him again and he told me that he was on his way and that he didn't understand what I was talking about. I kept crying until one of our neighbours, Ekaete, advised that I get something like an empty container that I could hit with stick to announce that my child was missing. She said I should announce that if anybody saw the child, he or she should take him to the police station. But I told her that I don't have any money to give to the police. However, after she persisted, I took my second son, who is two months old, with me and strapped him on my back. I went to Uwanse Police Station to report that my child was missing. At the end of the day, I exchanged numbers with the policewoman who asked me to go but advised that I alert them when I see him. They assured me that if I didn't have money to come; they would come and arrest the father of my children. That Tuesday, I called him. I lied to him that my small child and I (the younger one who is less than two months), were hungry and there was nothing for us to eat. He told me he was coming and switched off his phone. Later that Tuesday at about 5pm, he switched on the phone again. I asked why he switched off his phone. I asked why he didn't want to tell me the whereabouts of my child and he said I was talking nonsense that he didn't carry my child. I ended the call and started crying. People came around and asked me to keep quiet. I told them that the small child could not have crossed the gutter close to the house to go anywhere to play.

How did you eventually know that he took the child away?

It was when he came back from Akwa Ibom that the police trailed and arrested him. I was devastated when I got to know that he sold Elisha. I still hope to see my son.

What was he doing before the incident?

He was a mason. I was working with somebody as a house help and making pop corn for another person.

What can you say about his character?

He drank a lot and when he returned home, he quarrelled with me. Sometimes, he beat me up. He once beat me with a machete. Sometime last year, when my mother visited us, he pursued her with machete and my mother ran away. She left the house and since that time, she never came back to visit us again.

How did you meet him?

I met him at Akpabuyo LGA of Cross River State in 2014 but I cannot remember the month now. I went to Akpabuyo to see my aunty and on my way back, we met inside the taxi that I boarded. He said he wanted to marry me. After a week, he called my number and said I should come and visit him where he stayed.

When I got there, he took me to his former compound where he was living before he packed to No. 8, Amika Utuk Lane in Calabar-South. It was there that I became pregnant for him. I stayed with him until I was delivered of the boy (Elisha) on July 4, 2015.

Are you legally married to him?

He never paid my bride price and my mother had always quarrelled with me on that. She asked me to leave the man's house because she doesn't like him. But I told my mother that I loved him.

Was he married before you moved in with him?

I did not know that he was married. It was after I delivered Elisha that his wife came to the house because she was staying in Uyo. When she came, she started quarrelling with him and asked if he was not ashamed of getting married to a small girl (me) who could be his child. She asked him who would take care of her four children that he left for her. The woman threatened that there would be trouble if he did not send money to her to take care of the children in Akwa Ibom State. Since that time, the man has been sending money to her. The second child from the woman later came to live with us. But after this incident, the mother came and took the child away, obviously out of fear that her child could be sold like mine.
