People Attacking Nigerian Pastors Are Misguided - Samklef

Posted: 17 Dec 2017 02:30 AM PST

You elected people into government to build roads, electricity and other critical infrastructures, provide jobs and enabling environment for business... they are failing you daily, looting in Billions, yet you are afraid to confront them because they can jail you.

Your easy target is Pastors...
It is ok for you to see a 25 years old boy singing about sex and ladies private parts chilling in a Private Jet, but when you see a 70 years old PhD holder who left his job as HOD to serve God - when your own father was busy sleeping with different women - take a ride in a private jet it becomes headache to you.

Please you need Deliverance from such stupid mindset and from those making you think so shallow. God help you.

Why Catholic leaders don’t own private jets – Archbishop | Mr Olumide's Blog

Posted: 17 Dec 2017 12:37 AM PST

Against the general belief across the globe that the Catholic Church is one of the richest churches in the world, Archbishop of Kaduna Catholic Diocese, Most Rev. Matthew Man-oso Ndagoso has said it was a wrong impression.

Bishop Ndagoso said if the Catholic is so rich as many people are claiming, its leaders would have owned private jets all over the country like other church leaders are doing.
According to Sunday Sun, he pointed out that many people, including some Catholic faithful, even went to the extent of believing that the Pope has a mint where he prints American dollars and distributes to catholic dioceses around the world. The cleric who spoke at a dinner cum formal commissioning ceremony of a newly built multi-purpose secretariat for Kaduna Diocese, said the Catholic leadership is prudent at managing meagre resources.

He said some people even have the erroneous impression that the head of the Catholic church, Pope has a mint from where he distributes dollars to dioceses all over the world.

Bishop Ndagoso restated that the catholic leadership does not engage in wasteful spending, but proper management of its resources to the envy of the world.

"Many people in our country, including Catholics, are under the wrong impression that the Catholic Church is very rich. "If we are rich we would have bought fleets of jets like any other church, but we are not.
"Some even think that the Pope has a mint in the Vatican where he prints American dollars and the Euro which he distributes to catholic dioceses around the world. "If anything, what makes our church look rich is the ability to properly manage scarce resources with prudence and transparency.
"This is why with so little, the church has always pursued goals that benefit humanity in general regardless of creed and social status through schools, hospitals and other social services. "It is for the same reason that as a church we always aspire to work in close collaboration with the state and its agencies that seek to improve the human condition like I said at the ground breaking ceremony of this project eight and half years ago.

"Be that as it may, I wish to reiterate that our hands of collaboration are stretched out to the government, civil society groups and non government organisations for the common good of our people, especially in the areas of the provision of qualitative and functional education, health care and social services.
"In this vein, I wish to appeal to Kaduna State government to borrow a leaf from other state governments especially those in the southern and Middle Belt of our country and return our schools that were taken away from us without compensation as a matter of justice so that the church and the state can resume collaboration in the common service of our people". Bishop Ndagoso said.

Death of Canadian billionaire Sherman, wife puzzles police | Mr Olumide's Blog

Posted: 17 Dec 2017 12:37 AM PST

Canadian police hunted for clues Saturday after the pharmaceutical billionaire Barry Sherman and his wife Honey were found dead in the basement of their Toronto home, in what investigators reportedly suspect was a murder-suicide.

Investigators were still at the scene in the evening hours,  a sprawling home in a tony neighbourhood of Canada's largest city, with post-mortem examinations under way to help determine how the couple died.

Police labeled the deaths "suspicious" after the bodies were discovered Friday, but clarified that no suspects were being sought.

The Toronto Sun and The Globe and Mail both reported that the deaths of the couple — who counted among Canada's richest people and were known as charity fundraisers — were being probed as a possible murder-suicide.

The Globe and Mail cited a police source as saying the Shermans' bodies were found hanging from a railing around a basement pool, the theory being that the 75-year-old chairman of the board of Apotex killed his wife Honey — five years his junior — hung her body and then hanged himself by the pool's edge.

The couple's children refuted that version of the events.

"Our parents shared an enthusiasm for life and commitment to their family and community totally inconsistent with the rumors regrettably circulated in the media as to the circumstances surrounding their deaths," a statement read.

"We are shocked and think it's irresponsible that police sources have reportedly advised the media of a theory which neither their family, their friends nor their colleagues believe to be true."

They called for a "thorough, intensive and objective criminal investigation," urging the media to refrain from reporting until the investigation is complete.

According to Forbes, Sherman had an estimated worth of $3.2 billion (Can$4.1 billion) at the time of his death, and was the 12th-richest person in Canada.

Canadian media said the Shermans had recently put their home up for sale with a price of around Can$7 million.

The deaths sparked an outpouring of sympathy from the country's political elite.

Burna Boy in SARS cell with other robbery suspects | Mr Olumide's Blog

Posted: 17 Dec 2017 12:02 AM PST

Hip hop musician, Damini Ogulu, aka Burna Boy, is currently cooling his heels in the custody of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad, Lagos State Command.

The embattled artiste has spent two days with criminals held in a SARS cell for offences ranging from robbery to theft,PUNCH reports.

He was reportedly being investigated for conspiracy in the robbery of his colleague, Abiye Jumbo aka Mr. 2Kay.

Burna Boy, who was declared wanted by the state Commissioner of Police, Edgal Imohimi, on November 20, was apprehended on Friday and detained.

Four suspects, including Burna Boy's road manager, Joel Kantiok, had been paraded for allegedly robbing Mr. 2Kay on October 22, in his room at Eko Hotel and Suites, Victoria Island, shortly after "Buckwyld N Breathless" concert held in the facility.

During the parade, the suspects, except Kantiok, confessed to have carried out the attack on the order of Burna Boy.

The assailants had disguised as room service officials to gain entry into the singer's room.

They reportedly beat him up and dispossessed him of a wristwatch, gold jewellery, phones among other valuables estimated at millions of naira at gunpoint.

They subsequently tied him up and fled with their loot.

A police source told our correspondent on Saturday that the singer was still making statements to detectives.

The source said, "He is currently in the SARS custody and he is helping the police in the investigation. For now, I can't say categorically what his charges will be but definitely they are related to robbery for which the other suspects were arraigned."

Another police officer, who is privy to the case, said Burna Boy's arraignment might not come up on Monday as planned, noting that investigators wanted to present watertight charges against him before the court.

God Has Not Revealed Anything About Atiku for 2019 – Fr. Mbaka

Posted: 16 Dec 2017 11:30 PM PST

The Spiritual Director, Adoration Ministry, Enugu Nigeria, Rev. Fr. Ejike Mbaka has disowned media reports, which quoted him as saying that former Vice President, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar is a most credible presidential candidate for the 2019 election.

Speaking on Saturday, the priest said the originators of the report were out to cause mischief.

Expressing shock over the comments attributed to him, Mbaka said;
"I read the report about my support for Atiku with bitterness in my heart as I can see how wicked and evil some people could be.

"Those who are impersonating my names wickedly and politically must be careful. People must fear God and respect His anointed. Whoever is trying to use my name to support or promote Atiku's political exploits is attracting God's wrath to himself or herself.

"For now, I have never spoken neither for nor against Atiku. God has shown me nothing about him. Neither in the public nor in the secret have I said what the reporter claimed. When?

"Where? With whom? and under what platform did the mendacious and wicked reporter hear or see me talk about Atiku?"

Mbaka said if those behind the report failed to do the needful, "I will take action against such vulturous and satanic character assassins who have been working hard to destroy my reputation or make me a false prophet.

"I am busy with the work of God and I am now in a deeper contemplative encounter with the Awesome God.

"My concerns now are the healings, deliverances, blessings, breakthroughs etc of my people. I don't talk carelessly. I speak when God has given me a word. For now, God has not revealed anything about Atiku Abubakar".

Saraki, Senate, Move to Tackle Drug and Substance Abuse Across the Nation

Posted: 16 Dec 2017 10:05 PM PST

Following the Senate's resolution in October on the state of drug and substance abuse around the nation, the Senate President, Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki, and his colleagues in the Upper Chamber of the legislature have moved to address the widespread use of drugs and other illegal substances through a stakeholder roundtable with state governments, local governments, traditional rulers, the Pharmaceutical Council of Nigeria and NGOs.

The objective of the Roundtable which will hold in Kano on Monday and Tuesday, is to bring together relevant stakeholders to discuss the drivers of drug abuse in Nigeria, identify the psycho-social and medical impact of the phenomenon, assess current responses, legislative gaps and opportunities for action.

The expected outcomes of the Roundtable include: gaining a better understanding of drug use, prevalence, trends and patterns in Nigeria; understanding the current government and Civil Society capacity and efforts towards addressing drug abuse and related issues; gain insight into legislative, policy gaps and develop an Action Plan for interventions by the National Assembly and other stakeholders.

Recall that earlier this year, the President of the Senate, Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki, expressed his concern about the widespread abuse of drugs by youths in the country.

In a series of tweets on his Twitter account (@bukolasaraki) ‪on Friday, September 29, the Senate President posted, "I am particularly worried about the drug menace in the country. It is time that we recognize this problem and address it in a sensible manner.

"I will be pushing for the National Assembly to review all relevant laws on drug abuse. This will help to curb the widespread misuse of illegal and unsanitary substances. The Senate will engage with all relevant stakeholders as we initiate this process," the President of the Senate said.

Until recently, the Government of Nigeria (GoN) has pursued a law enforcement approach in response to the challenge of drug trafficking, production and use.

Nigeria has ratified all United Nation's drug and crime conventions and is supporting and participating in all major international and regional anti-drug initiatives, strategies and programmes.

The country has also enacted comprehensive anti-drug legislation and established several specialised national agencies to enhance the effectiveness and coordination of drug control policies.

The Roundtable will allow the Senate to effectively analyze Nigeria's response to the menace and come up with appropriate strategies on the way forward.

The public can follow the events at the roundtable using the hashtag #SenateTacklesDrugAbuse.

Buhari Is Leading Nigeria To The Promised Land - Uzor Kalu

Posted: 16 Dec 2017 09:40 PM PST

Former Abia State governor, Orji Uzor Kalu has stated that president Buhari has good intentions for Nigeria. He called on all Nigerians across religious, ethnic and political divides to support the president for greater success.

Speaking to Journalists at the funeral of Chief James Babatunde, fellow of Nigerian Institute of Town Planners, Kalu said;

"We are heading to the Promised Land. Buhari is leading us to the Promised Land, but people don't understand. There are two types of components that make democratic process – the hardware and the software. The hardware is what you see, such as road construction and reconstruction. The software is obedience to rule of law, accessibility to people's mind, obedience to court order, making sure that court of competent jurisdiction's orders are respected, and making sure that everything done in the law is totally agreeable.

Our problem in Nigeria is very simple. People are not obeying traffic lights. Big people don't want to obey simple rule; 'do not cross this line', this is the problem the country has. This is what Buhari is saying, that, 'no, you cannot do without due process.'

Buhari is trying to say to Nigerian people that, 'yes I might be slow, but we have to go through a process which is internationally acceptable'. So, we are on course. Things have been very difficult, I agree. But my grandmother used to tell me that when a tailor gets a brand new cloth, he has to first cut it into pieces, then make it into a very fine dress. That is where we are today. Everybody must be crying, we'll get it (the nation) back on course."

Over N100m goods destroyed in Onitsha market fire | Mr Olumide's Blog

Posted: 16 Dec 2017 09:37 PM PST

It was another dark day in Onitsha, Anambra State, yesterday, as fire gutted the bridge head market of the Association of Medical and Pharmaceutical Products Dealers Onitsha AMPPDO.

In the process, goods worth over 100 million naira were destroyed.

The fire incident was said to have started at about 6am, at the Redemption Line of the market.

A source said it would have gutted the whole market, but for the timely intervention of the men of Fire Service from Onitsha Main market and Building Materials Market, Ogidi, invited by the leadership of the market.

When The Nation visited the market yesterday after the incident about 12 noon, members of the executive of AMPPDO were still ruminating over the incident.

Also, the affected shop owners were clearing their shops of the rubbles left by the fire incident.

One of the affected victims, Chidubem Uzochukwu, told The Nation that he lost N700,000 cash and goods worth over N15 million, while his neighbor Ebuka Emeh lost more.

President of AMPPDO, Mr. Uche Eze, said he was called by market security men at about 6.15 am yesterday, that there was fire outbreak at Redemption Line and he quickly called men of the Fire Service from Onitsha Main Market and Building Material Market, Ogidi

According to him,
"When I arrived the market the fire was still raging, members of executive were also here with me, including the President General of Bridge Head Markets Association, Mr. Sunday Obinze, Chairman of the Line and his Secretary, Alvin Okpaleke; we were all here helping the Fire Service officials to quench the fire.

"About six shops were affected and over N100 million both in cash and goods were lost to this fire incident, you can see for yourself the debris left in the shops. The owners equipped their shops with goods for the Christmas sales, but you can see what has happened.

"The whole market would have been engulfed by the fire if not for our prompt response in calling the fire fighting men from both markets.
"We are therefore appealing to Governor Willie Obiano to come to the assistance of the affected traders; they have lost all they have been working for over the years in just one incident.
"We are also appealing to the governor to provide us with fire service equipment; it is unfortunate that the entire Bridge Head Markets Association has no fire service facility to tackle similar problem."

Why God kept Buhari alive: Femi Adesina | Mr Olumide's Blog

Posted: 16 Dec 2017 09:37 PM PST

Let me begin by telling a story. On June 1, 2015, the day I resumed work as adviser on media to President Muhammadu Buhari, he had admonished me: "Adesina, always tell me the truth. That is what I want from you. In this type of position I have found myself, it is very easy not to be told the truth. People will just tell you what they think you want to hear. But from you, I want the truth. As a General, I may argue, but please argue with me. Tell me the truth always."

Based on that blank cheque I'd been given, I went to the residence one evening last year to see the President. That was the time there was deafening talk of hunger from different parts of the country. I wanted to be sure that the talk was not being filtered from the President. Of course, I know him as somebody who reads newspapers religiously, and wherever we are in the face of the world, he asks for media highlights from Nigeria. So, he would not be unaware of what Nigerians were going through. But I still wanted to raise it with him.

"Mr President, there is hunger in the land, and people are complaining. I know government is doing its best, but I just want you to be aware," I said.

Mr President responded: "I know, I know. I am aware of what people are going through. I have people in my own constituency back home, and I know the messages they send to me. But it is a passing phase. Our country was vandalized, and we found ourselves in this problem. But now that we are here, we will do our best. We will bring change to this country, and we are already seeing it in agriculture. This period of hunger will pass."

It was prophetic. The season of hunger will pass, and is indeed passing. Anyone that is honest will admit that things are looking up in Nigeria. The ravening clouds shall no longer be victorious. They shall not long possess the sky.

I went away with one conviction from that night's meeting: the poor matter very much to this President. He is not the type that people would tell they had no bread to eat, and he would tell them to eat cake instead. This is a friend of the talakawas, a man who loves ordinary people, and who wants their station in life to be improved. And those people know it. That is why they gravitate towards him, and repose so much confidence in him. He is their hero. Our hero.

President Buhari turns 75 years on Sunday 17 December. But some six months back, how many could confidently say this day would come for the ramrod straight man from Daura? How many believed the President would come out of the severe medical challenge that had confronted him? It all began as a routine vacation cum medical check up in January, and few days after, the rumour mill was on overdrive. The challenge lasted till August, before the President returned home finally, and since then, he has been looking better by the day. Each time you now see him, there is a fresher glow, and you cannot but give glory to God on his behalf.

But why was President Buhari kept alive, so much so that he is turning 75 today? Why did he pass through the sea of infirmity, and he was not swept away? Why did he pass through inferno, and the fire did not kindle against him? Big question. I don't have the answer, but I can hazard some guesses, based on divine principles.

Rigobert Song. Remember him? Song was the Cameroonian defender who played many years for the Indomitable Lions. He appeared at eight African Nations Cup tournaments, five as captain, and stood between Nigeria and victory many times. He became an idol, venerated by his countrymen and women. He retired to become a coach.

Then late last year, Song was not on song again on the soccer pitch. He had a near death experience on October 20. He went down with brain aneurysm, and was in coma for two days. Doctors battled to save his life, and he was eventually evacuated to France.

While the travails lasted, the social media was abuzz with news of Song's passage. As someone who had followed his career over the years, I felt very sad. But this is the season of fake news. Song was not dead, he miraculously rallied back. He narrated his experience, which I found instructive, considering what our President also passed through:

"I did not know what was happening to me…I did not even know I was fighting between life and death…All these people, they put God in trouble. Because everyone in this situation, they were praying-this is what I keep in my mind-God would have been in trouble. Everyone was praying, asking, 'God, please don't do that, don't take Rigobert.' I say thank you everybody for making me come back."

What song was Song singing? One of thanksgiving. Cameroonians who loved him bombarded God with prayers, 'Please, don't take Rigobert now.' And God heard. He showed mercy.

That is the same reason President Buhari is alive today. Nigerians bombarded Heaven with prayers. With supplications, intercessions, pleas for mercy. Muslims prayed in mosques. Christians prayed in churches. President Alpha Conde of Guinea declared 24 hours prayer for his Nigerian counterpart. Prayers were going on everywhere, both at home, and in the Diaspora. I can imagine God telling Himself: 'I must answer these prayers. These petitions are too many. I must answer.'

And God had mercy, a fact attested to by President Buhari himself. He said his return was a miracle, which only God could have done.

Why did God keep our President alive? The Holy Books answer:

"Blessed is he that considers the poor;

God will deliver him in the day of evil.

God will preserve him, and keep him alive,

And he will be blessed upon the earth;

And deliver him not unto the will of his enemies,

And raise him up from sickness." (Psalm 41:1-3).

And this one in Surah At-Tawbah 9:128:

"There has certainly come to you a Messenger from among yourselves. Grievous to him is what you suffer, for he is concerned over you and to the believers he is kind and merciful."

President Buhari is concerned about Nigerians, particularly the helpless, the ordinary people, and he has dedicated his life to serving them. And when he was near unto death, those ordinary people besieged Heaven with prayers. That Christian hymn says "dearer to God are the prayers of the poor." And God truly answered.

There is power in goodwill, we have seen it work. It worked for Rigobert Song, and it has worked for our President. Have a heart for men, particularly for the poor, the lowly, and the downtrodden. And see God rise on your behalf.

Consider Tabitha (Dorcas in Greek), who lived at Joppa. She was full of good works, always doing good, and helping the poor. One day, she took ill, and died. Peter, one of the apostles of Jesus, was invited. He came, prayed, and said: "Tabitha, arise!" And the woman came back to life. That is what is possible, when you have a heart for the poor.

In his New Year message last year, President Buhari told the country: "Living in the State House has not alienated me from your daily sufferings. These challenges are only temporary, we are working to make things better."

When news came a couple of months ago that Nigeria had exited from recession, what did the President say? "Until coming out of recession translates into meaningful improvement in peoples' lives, our work cannot be said to be done."

In another broadcast, the President had stated: "All my adult life, I have always earned a salary and I know what it is like when your salary is simply not enough."

That is the man we follow, and serve. Millions would today follow him into battle blindfolded. Millions upon millions would vote him again and again, if he throws his hat into the ring. Happy birthday, Mr President. You have shown us how to care for the lowly and the poor, how to bear them in our hearts at all times, and how such pleases God, and brings mercy our way. Thank you for coming this way, thank you for offering yourself for service.

Saudi crown prince revealed as buyer of world's most expensive home | Mr Olumide's Blog

Saudi Arabia's Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman has been revealed as the buyer of a French chateau that became the world's most expensive property when it sold for $300million in 2015.

The owner of the palace - which features a wine cellar, home theatre and moat filled with koi carp - was kept hidden at the time behind a series of shell companies based in France and Luxembourg.

But an investigation by the New York Times has found that the companies are all owned by Eight Investment Company, a Saudi firm managed by the head of the prince's personal foundation.
Advisers to the Saudi royal family confirmed to the Times that the palace ultimately belongs to Salman.

The prince was also behind the recent purchase of Leonardo Da Vinci's Salvator Mundi which became the most expensive artwork ever sold when it swapped hands for $450million earlier this month, the Times believes.
Eight Investment Company was also used to buy the prince's spectacular $400million superyacht Pegasus VIII from a Russian vodka tycoon in 2015.Salman was revealed as the estate's buyer at a time when he is cracking down on what he says is corruption among the country's elite.Daily mail reports.

Hundreds of the kingdom's most prominent and wealthiest individuals have been detained at the Ritz-Carlton hotel in Riyadh, with many saying they have been told to cough up huge sums of money in return for freedom.

Salman has said he hopes to raise $100billion from seizing what he claims are ill-gotten gains.

He is also overseeing a reformation project dubbed Vision 2030 which will see the kingdom diversify away from oil while seeking to balance the government accounts.

Also on the agenda is curtailing Saudi's powerful Islamic clerics by moving toward a more moderate form of Islam, including allowing women to drive and licencing cinemas to reopen.
