Shehu Sani Reacts To Buhari's Call For Reversal Of Oyegun's Tenure Extension Posted: 28 Mar 2018 03:07 AM PDT The senator representing Kaduna central, Shehu Sani has reacted following calls by President Muhammadu Buhari that the extension of John Odigie-Oyegun's tenure as party chairman is unconstitutional. Reacting to the matter, Senator Sani wrote: "The rejection of tenure elongation by President Muhammadu Buhari is commendable. The elongation was nothing but an illegality hatched by a gang trying to push the party to the path of dishonor and ignominy. The President has exorcised the demon of illegitimacy in the womb of the Party. PMB has saved the broom from the raging flame about to consume it. HIDING BEHIND BUHARI TO ENTRENCH ILLEGALITY MUST BE RESISTED AT ALL TIMES. The President has saved the Party and its members from an Ill fated flight by recalling the "Extension plane" from the control tower. All passengers, the cabin crew and the captain must hurriedly disembark." Buhari who called the extension unconstitional during the National Council Meeting of the party asked for it to be reversed. However, the All Progressives Congress National Publicity Secretary, Mallam Bolaji Abudullahi yesterday said nothing can be done to reverse it. culled from Olu famous Mr Olumide's Blog |

Posted: 28 Mar 2018 02:27 AM PDT The Federal Government and the Nigerian Army have been accused of being aware of security threats, as well as soldiers' misconduct in Taraba State but chose to do nothing. The accusation was made on Tuesday by the Taraba state government. Speaking on the matter, the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor of Taraba State on Media and Publicity, Mr. Bala Abu, the Taraba State Government cited few instances that the Federal Government and the military were informed about security breach and soldiers' misconduct, which were allegedly ignored. The state government's statement was in reaction to the claim made by the Federal Government on Monday that although it got reports of soldiers' misconduct, there was none from Taraba State. Col. Tukur Gusau, the spokesperson for the Minister of Defence, Mansur Dan-Ali, who spoke in an interview with The Punch on behalf of his principal, had said, "Nigerians have been coming to report incidents and we have been taking care of them… Soldiers have been put through disciplinary procedures. "We have not received anything yet from Taraba State. We need to work on specific things. To my knowledge, we didn't receive anything in respect of our operations in Taraba State." But the Taraba State Government, in its reaction, warned that thousands of people might still be killed by herdsmen unless the military turned a new leaf. It said, "The case against the military in Taraba is that of outright collusion against the people which has made it easy for the Fulani militia to kill and destroy property. It is also a case of disrespect for the Office of the Governor of Taraba State." Abu in the statement explained that in February 2016, the Ministry of Interior influenced the visit of military investigators to investigate an allegation against a monarch in the state, Dr. Shekarau Masa-Ibi. He stated that the military delegation "had no courtesy to inform the state governor" on the visit and purpose of the visit "The Taraba State Government protested this obvious act of disrespect… in a letter to the Chief of Army Staff, dated February 23, 2016," he added. Abu noted that the state Governor, Darius Ishaku, also wrote the President on January 26, 2016, to complain about threat to peace and security in Taraba State. "In that letter signed by Governor Ishaku himself, he lamented the devastating effects of internal conflicts involving the Fulani and Tiv, which led to the sacking of 200 settlements in the Gassol, Bali, Ibi, Donga and Gashaka local government areas by herdsmen. "The governor informed the presidency about the concerns raised by some traditional rulers in the state concerning the influx of Fulani militia and about the attacks on their communities. Letters of complaints from the traditional rulers whose communities suffered from these attacks were also attached and forwarded to the presidency… Copies of this letter were sent to the National Security Adviser, Chief of Staff to the President and the Inspector-General of Police," he added. According to Abu, Ishaku wrote another letter to the then Acting President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, on July 5, 2017, drawing his attention to "the precarious security situation as contained in a letter written by contractors handling the Kashimbilla Dam project and called for high level intervention." He called on the army, the Navy and Air Force to establish permanent security bases in the area. This was again ignored." The Taraba State Government said it reported the misconduct of the Commanding Officer of 93 Battallion, Ada Barracks in Takum on several occasions, but no action was taken against him by the military. "For example, the Fulani militia attacked communities in Takum and Ussa on May 6, 2017. The crisis led to the abandonment of 224 cattle belonging to the Fulani herdsmen. "The Taraba State Government took possession of these cows and handed them over to the Commanding Officer for safe keeping until the owners return to collect. This was meant to be a ploy to get the perpetrators of the crisis arrested. Sadly, the Commanding Officer released the cows without arresting anybody. "There was another case when the commanding officer marched soldiers to attack and brutalise communities in Kashimbilla. Property of the people was damaged while many were injured. "The letter said the Commanding Officer was partial and discriminatory in the discharge of his duties and requested that he should be transferred. The advice was ignored," the statement said. The governor's spokesman said Ishaku had always raised the alarm on security situations in the state, but was always ignored. He said, "On January 30, this year, The governor wrote another letter to the Vice President to again complain about the attitude of the Commanding Officer of 93 Battalion, Takum, Lt. Col. Ibrahim Gambari, whose soldiers always looked the other way when the herdsmen militia come to kill. "The governor said the security situation in the country and in Taraba State demanded that every security officer cooperate and take directives from the chief security officer of the state which is the governor, but lamented that this has not been the case with the commanding officer. "The letter listed instances of security challenges in which the military failed to live up to expectations. "The letter also alerted the military authorities to a planned massive movement of Fulani and their cows into Takum LGA, adding that motive was to provoke the people and precipitate crisis. The military in-charge of security in the area did nothing. "The widely publicised report on social media and which was investigated and confirmed to the effect that a chopper dropped arms in a village near Wukari was downplayed by the security agencies. "Despite efforts by the Taraba State Government to get the military to act, they never did. Since then, the arms and ammunition brought into the state have been used against the people in various communities in the state by the herdsmen. "The present Operation Ayem Akpatuma in the state has also been discriminatory. While cutlasses and knives have been taken away from the people, the herdsmen have been left with AK-47 rifles. "Through these various acts of deliberate mischief on the part of the military thousands of people have been killed and a lot more may be killed unless the military turns a new leaf." culled from Olu famous Mr Olumide's Blog |
CONFESSION: "My dream to become politician led me into cultism" Posted: 28 Mar 2018 01:07 AM PDT A 400 level student of Abia State University, Uturu, identified as Princewill Okechukwu, says he joined a secret cult on campus because of his intention of joining politics after school. Okechukwu was among five suspects paraded at the Police Officers Mess in Umuahia for suspected cult activities and armed robbery. The suspects were paraded on Monday by the Commissioner of Police in the state, Mr. Anthony Ogbizi. The 22-year-old final year student of Political Science said he was the leader of the Black Axe confraternity in the institution. He claimed that his enemies, who were interested in his position, betrayed him by reporting him to the police. "I wasn't caught in any cult activity; rather I was arrested because I'm the head of the Black Axe fraternity. "I joined the cult because I have an ambition to join politics after studies; I was told that there were great men that graduated from our school, who are in government and they can help one to succeed in politics," Okechukwu added. The suspect, who said he had been a member of the cult for one year, regretted that he had not benefited anything from the sect, promising not to go back to the evil group if he regains his freedom. "I have not benefited anything from the cult since I joined. The position I occupy was just handed over to me not long ago, and it was the people that wanted my position that betrayed me," he said. A female among the paraded suspects, identified only as Chika, denied being a member of the Vikings confraternity, maintaining that she was wrongfully arrested while waiting for someone. A police source told Punch that Chika was arrested close to the scene of initiation of Vikings new members. The police claimed that Chika was found in company with her boyfriend, who was a member of Vikings, adding that she was acting as an informant for the cult group. One of the suspects, who claimed to be a Lagos-based trader, said he visited his girlfriend on campus on the day that police operatives raided his friend's hostel in search of the cultists. culled from Olu famous Mr Olumide's Blog |
Married Woman Gang-R*ped In Husband's Presence, Community Protests Posted: 28 Mar 2018 01:07 AM PDT No fewer than 1000 women from Okuni community, in the Ikom Local Government Area of Cross River State on Tuesday took to the streets to demand justice for a woman who was allegedly gang-r*ped at gunpoint in the presence of her husband. According to the women, the incident, which happened on November 6, 2017, saw to the arrest of one of the culprits, who was later released on bail without any sanction from the police in Ikom. The protesting women, who went to the Ikom Police Station, appealing to the state Commissioner of Police, Mr. Hafiz Inuwa, to wade into the matter. The women said some gunmen had attacked a cocoa plantation and after stealing about 12 bags of cocoa, they beat up the farmer and r*pe one of his wives till she became unconscious. The Punch reports that one of the protesters, Grace Tam, who wore a black gown like other protesters, said, "A group of men went into our bush and r*ped our daughter. We took the matter to the police and it was transferred to the Special Anti-Robbery Squad. But along the line, they said it was only a robbery case. "We are angry and we want the world to know what the police did. R*pe is not fun and it is not known in the land of Olulumoh. "We want the government to produce those men who went into our bush and gang-r*ped our daughter." The women later proceeded to the palace of the traditional ruler, where the spokesman for the Okwa Traditional Rulers Council in Okuni, Okin Akpet, confirmed the incident. "The victim, upon regaining consciousness, was brought in that state to the community. The case was reported to the police, which led to the arrest of one of the alleged r*pisr. He was identified by the victim, who said he was the first to r*pe her. "Sadly, the major culprit, who was supposed to fish out other perpetrators, was released on bail and the matter was charged to court. When the matter came up in court early March 2018, r*pe was absent from the charge sheet and the medical report was missing from the file. "This is the reason the women decided to take to the streets to demand that the case be revisited and that justice should prevail," he said. The state Police Public Relations Officer, Irene Ugbo, said the Commissioner of Police had removed the Divisional Police Officer in charge of the Okuni Police Station following the discovery that the matter was not professionally handled. "We all know that rrpe is a grievous offence. When it was initially reported to the police, the suspect was arrested and a medical report showed that it was a r*pe case. "But along the line, we did not know what happened. We later discovered that the suspect was released and it led to the removal of the DPO by the Commissioner of Police. Of course, after then, people started alleging that the police had collected money. "As of today, the CP has directed that the suspect should be rearrested and tried in court," she said. culled from Olu famous Mr Olumide's Blog |
Houseboy Burgles Boss’ Apartment, Escapes With Workers’ Salaries Posted: 28 Mar 2018 12:37 AM PDT A 26-year-old domestic help, Daniel Ikade, is on the run after he allegedly burgled his boss' apartment in the Anthony Village area of Lagos and stole $11,000 (about N4m). Ikade, aka Danzy, was said to have broken into the room when the boss, Ebun Akin, a businessman, was not around. He then fled with the cash. It was learnt that the suspect allegedly committed the crime on Friday, February 22, 2018, six months after he was employed through an agent, identified only as Samuel. It was gathered that Akin had planned to deposit the money in the bank the following Monday for the payment of his workers' salaries. The victim told Punch that when he discovered the burglary on getting home that day, he went to Ikade's apartment and observed that he had fled. Akin said he went to the Anthony Police Station to report the case, but he was asked to alert the police whenever the suspect was sighted. He said, "I left Daniel (Ikade) at home that day while I was leaving home. I forgot to lock my apartment, but the wardrobe was locked. I was shocked when I returned home in the evening and met my wardrobe broken. I kept $11,000 there. I discovered that the money had been stolen. "I went to his room and noticed that his telephone was on the bed but he had removed the SIM card. He left all his belongings behind as well as a diary containing phone numbers of his close friends and family. The money was meant for the payment of staff's salaries. "I was supposed to convert it into naira and then deposit it at the bank. I couldn't make it to the bank that Friday and decided to keep the money at home till Monday. I went to the Anthony Police Station to report. The policemen asked me to inform them as soon as I locate him." Akin explained that he subsequently reported the case to the Inspector-General of Police Intelligence Response Team in Lagos, adding that the team had yet to track down the suspect. He said Ikade was last seen in the Ikorodu area of Lagos State but was said to have fled to his town in Ogojo, Cross River State. He noted that the telephone lines of the suspect's brother, Bertland, and one Emmanuel Ochim, who stood as guarantors for him, were unreachable. He said "Attempts to locate Daniel (Ikade) have been abortive. His guarantor, Bertrand, who happens to be his elder brother, has also switched off his phone. I visited his (Bertland's) house in Alago Erunwen, Ikorodu. I learnt that he had fled the neighbourhood since the incident occurred. "The second guarantor, Emmanuel (Ochim) who lives at Mosco Blocks Industry, Erunwen, Balogun Ikorodu, is also incommunicado. I got him through an agent called Samuel. The police have invited him several times, but he has refused to show up." The Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Jimoh Moshood, said investigation had commenced into the matter. culled from Olu famous Mr Olumide's Blog |
Obasanjo Slams Buhari For Not Signing Africa Free Trade Deal Posted: 28 Mar 2018 12:07 AM PDT Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has decried the failure of President Muhammadu Buhari to sign the Africa Continental Free Trade Area agreement, expressing hope that he will change his mind before it is too late. Obasanjo poured out his mind during a presidential panel, titled: 'When Leaders Make History' at the Africa CEO Forum in Abidjan, Cote d'Ivoire on Tuesday. He was joined by the President of Zimbabwe, Emerson Mnangagwa. Obasanjo said, "That President Buhari didn't sign the free trade agreement in Kigali is disappointing; I hope he signs it before it is too late. "Egypt started the discussion on the formation of the Organisation of African Unity but didn't conclude it and Nigeria took over. Nigeria was also central to the discussion of the free trade agreement, but I am surprised that the country withdrew from signing." The AfCFTA treaty is one of the flagship projects of the African Union Agenda 2063, and is aimed at creating a single continental market for goods and services, with free movement of business persons, investments and a single currency. Also, the agreement commits countries to removing tariffs on 90 per cent of goods and to liberalise services, while items identified as sensitive, which make up the balance 10 per cent, will also be phased out later as tariff-free. But the President, Manufacturers Association of Nigeria, Dr. Frank Jacobs, said the government's enforcement mechanism in the area of enforcement of rules of origin needed to be clearly defined before local producers could support the agreement. It is believed that the AfCFTA treaty would improve intra-African trade and enhance economic growth and sustainable development. The Federal Government had delayed the signing of the treaty to allow for more deliberations and input from stakeholders and had set up a committee on the issue before the President would sign the treaty. Speaking on the need for increased youth and women participation in politics in Africa, Obasanjo, who zeroed in on Nigeria, stated, "In our own part of the world, we have not done enough in this regard. Since independence, we have never had any woman as president and VP; no woman has contested governorship election and won. "In the coming dispensation, all organs of political parties should have 30 percent slots for women, 30 percent for the youth, and 40 per cent for the others." He said it was disheartening that the number of the women in the National Assembly was still very insignificant. culled from Olu famous Mr Olumide's Blog |
Husband Abandons Wife, Flees After She Gave Birth To Triplets Posted: 28 Mar 2018 12:07 AM PDT A 44-year-old man, Paul Edobor, has allegedly abandoned his wife after she was delivered of triplets in the Esan North-East Local Government Area of Edo State. It was learnt that Paul, a commercial motorcycle operator, fled his home in Uromi when his wife, Ugomma, had the three identical baby girls. He was also said to have ignored phone calls from his wife, whom he married 12 years ago. Ugomma told Punch on Tuesday that her husband had lamented his inability to cater to the triplets as he struggled to take care of the two children she already had for him. She said, "My husband ran away because he could not take care of the babies. I had my antenatal care in a hospital. But I put to bed at home. "He left me when I was in labour. After I had the babies, I called his telephone, but he refused to pick the calls." The nursing mother, who hails from Abia State, lamented that her husband's absence had left her and the children stranded. She noted that she had been living on alms from kind Nigerians. She appealed to her husband to return home, saying he had been forgiven. Ugomma said, "People have been the ones helping me to buy baby things. I have been going to markets and churches with the babies to beg for alms. "Wherever I go, people thank God for giving me these babies. I want my husband to come back to me. I have forgiven him. We were married in the traditional way; there is no going back." She appealed to the state government to also come to her aid. "I want the government and good-spirited individuals to come to my aid to enable me to take care of my babies," she added. culled from Olu famous Mr Olumide's Blog |
Interesting Ways To Triumph Over Life's Issues Posted: 27 Mar 2018 11:37 AM PDT With so much crazy stuff happening in our world today, it's no surprise many Christians struggle with feelings of worry. For those looking for a victory over the issues of life, there are a number of methods which will help you let go of worry and turn our hearts toward God; 1. Ask For Help From Those Who Can Being a Christian means learning to share one another's burdens (Galatians 6:2), yet many believers still choose to suffer alone. Perhaps we think our anxiety is too small of an issue. Maybe we've been taught to deal with it ourselves, or that seeking help will make us appear weak. Regardless of our motivations, no one should have to fight through life's issues alone. If you're feeling overwhelmed, don't be afraid to ask for help. 2. Study the Psalms The psalms can be a great source of encouragement for those struggling with depression and anxiety. They demonstrate how even the best disciples have often battled the same emotions you're feeling now. Despite all his works of praise, David composed plenty of psalms where he called on God in grief (Psalm 51) or fear (Psalm 59). Take a moment to study these words. Remember that other believers have walked the same path as you before, and with God's help, they overcame their despair. 3. Be Still Science tells us that humans respond to fear in two ways: Fight or Flight. Some people choose to fight their anxiety by staying busy with work or hobbies. Others retreat by avoiding the problem, or worse, using substances to dull their emotions. God offers us a third choice: Be still. Psalm 46:10 instructs you to, "Be still, and know that I am God." Fear has a way of clawing at our minds, infesting our every thought until we feel as though our brains will crack under the pressure. At times like this, God calls us to take a breath, be still, and know that he is God over all things, even our fear. 4. Remember His Command The most common command found in all the Bible is, "Fear not". God understands the workings of the human heart better than we do, and he has left this command in scripture to bolster our spirit in times of uncertainty. Just consider the following verses, "Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the Lord your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you." - Deuteronomy 31:6 "So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand." - Isaiah 41:10 "The Lord is my light and my salvation — whom shall I fear? The Lord is the stronghold of my life — of whom shall I be afraid?" - Psalm 27:1 God is with us in every storm and every trial. Even when we feel most alone he is right beside us, comforting, strengthening, and at times, even mourning with us. Whatever today has in store, God will still be present tomorrow, and that is a very encouraging thought. [written by Ryan Duncan] culled from Olu famous Mr Olumide's Blog |
Petrol Tanker Loaded With 589 Bags Of Rice Intercepted By Customs Posted: 27 Mar 2018 10:32 AM PDT The Nigeria Customs Service has arrested four suspects in Sokoto who allegedly smuggled 589 bags of imported rice concealed in a petrol tanker. Comptroller of NCS in Sokoto, Kebbi and Zamfara Command, Mr. Nasir Ahmad, disclosed this to newsmen on Tuesday in Sokoto. He said when the bags of rice were removed from the petrol tank, they have been contaminated by black oil, which is dangerous to human health. Ahmad said the smuggled items, which were intercepted on Sunday along Koko-Yauri road in Kebbi State, had N11.1m Duty Paid Value. The comptroller advised smugglers to find alternative legal means of livelihood and stop undermining the nation's economy. He appealed to the people, especially those residing in border communities, to assist officials of the command with relevant information to track down smugglers. According to him, it was the third time the command would be intercepting such illegal goods in a tanker. culled from Olu famous Mr Olumide's Blog |
Despite Buhari's Rejection, Oyegun's Tenure Extension Still Stands - APC Posted: 27 Mar 2018 10:32 AM PDT The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) on Tuesday said President Muhammadu Buhari's position rejecting the tenure extension of the party's national working committee (NWC) led by its chairman, John Odigie-Oyegun has not changed anything within the party as the extension still stands. According to the party's National Publicity Secretary, Mallam Bolaji Abudullahi in an interview with Daily Independent, said the president only expressed his personal opinion on the issue which cannot be taken as the position of the National Executive Council (NEC) which approved the extension in the first place. He said until the party's NEC reverses itself, the extension still stands. "The president's position has not changed the position of NEC. NEC has not reversed itself on the tenure extension. The decision of the NEC on the one-year tenure extension still stands". "The president is not NEC. The NEC will have to reverse itself but right now, it has not done that. So, the tenure extension still stands" he said. culled from Olu famous Mr Olumide's Blog |
Don't Keep Silent About Corruption Under Buhari's Government - Jonathan Challenges Osinbajo Posted: 27 Mar 2018 10:32 AM PDT Former President Goodluck Jonathan has challenged Vice President Yemi Osinbajo not to keep silent about the proven and established cases of corruption that occurred under the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari. Jonathan noted that if the Buhari administration were fighting corruption, it would not have registered Nigeria's worst ever performance in the Corruption Perception Index where Nigeria moved backward from 136 in 2014 to 148 in 2017. This was contained in a statement the GEJ Media Office issued yesterday in reaction to the vice president's comment that the Buhari administration would not stop talking about the massive corruption in the Jonathan government. Osinbajo had said: "Our people to simply forget the blatant violation of public trust and the pillaging of the nation's commonwealth witnessed in the past, are saying wittingly or otherwise that we should forget where the shoe actually pinched and pretend as if the social raping of the nation never occurred." He had asked: "How can we do that? We have a situation where a former first lady came out openly to claim over $171 million found in her accounts and you think Nigerians will simply overlook that. You have a situation where hundreds of billions have been recovered including the discovery of $43 million cash in an apartment in Ikoyi, and you think Nigerians will simply forget that?" However, in a statement by his media office yesterday, Jonathan faulted Osinbajo's statement, noting that there "is no former First Lady from the Jonathan administration that has claimed $171 million in a bank account. Upon a promise of a suit for libel, I challenge Vice President Yemi Osinbajo to name that person. He specifically said: "If, as Osinbajo statement claimed, the Buhari administration will not relent in the prosecution of the cases in court, how come his statement only mentioned suspected cases of corruption under the previous governments?" He wondered why Osinbajo "was silent about proven and established cases of corruption right under the nose of the current administration like the multimillion naira 'grass cutter' scam involving the immediate past Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Babachir Lawal, a man who has not been charged." He also sought to know why the vice president "did not talk about the Maina scandal. Abdurasheed Maina was allegedly the biggest thief ever in Nigeria's civil service. The PDP government dismissed him. But the Buhari administration recalled; reinstated into the civil service and given double promotion. "What about the $25 billion contracts that were awarded without due process at the Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation as detailed in the leaked memo from the minister of state for petroleum resources, and for which the vice president himself was almost roped in and for which he had to issue a quick denial? "What about the various padded budgets from the Buhari era that are a disgrace to decent people the world over? What about the fact that this government, after condemning the Jonathan administration for paying fuel subsidy, has turned around to secretly pay the same fuel subsidy that it claimed was a scam?" "The former president equally noted that vice president mentioned the Ikoyi Apartment $44 million. A panel was instituted to probe those funds. I challenge the vice president to release the findings of that panel's report to the public." He therefore, lamented that the Buhari administration had taken Nigeria backward in the global corruption perception index, noting that the country had recorded its best ever performance in 2014 when it moved from 142 in 2013 to 136 in 2014. He said only in an upside-down world "does a government who took Nigeria backward on the corruption scale accuse an administration that took Nigeria forward. "Only in a delusional regime does a president who scores 148 on the Transparency International CPI, go to a Ghana that scored 81 to offer to teach them how to fight corruption. The Buhari administration should instead have asked to take anti-corruption lessons from the Jonathan government and the Ghanaian President." culled from Olu famous Mr Olumide's Blog |

Is There A Curse With Winning Big Money In The Lottery? Posted: 27 Mar 2018 06:52 AM PDT Last Saturday, a single ticket-holder won the Pennsylvania Powerball jackpot valued at 456.7 million dollars, becoming an instant millionaire like few others in the history of state lotteries. Are you feeling a bit envious? Don't be. Winning the lottery can be bad for your health, in more ways than one. In fact, winning the lottery can be dangerous. How? Past lottery winners seem to understand that. The New Hampshire winner of February's 559.7 million-dollar Powerball jackpot, for example, went to court recently in an effort to keep her name anonymous. Her attorney explained her concern: "She is a longtime resident of New Hampshire and is an engaged community member… She wishes to continue this work and the freedom to walk into a grocery store or attend public events without being known or targeted as the winner of a half-billion dollars." That's an understandable concern, given what's happened to past lottery winners. Physically, Emotionally, and Behaviorally Dangerous For some, winning the lottery was physically dangerous. Abraham Shakespeare was murdered in 2009 after winning a $30 million jackpot. The suspect, a woman who became his girlfriend after he won the lottery, shot him twice in the chest and then buried him under a slab of concrete. For some, winning the lottery was emotionally dangerous. In 2006, Sandra Hayes won the Missouri lottery, splitting a $224 million prize. Her win was emotionally damaging. "I had to endure the greed and the need that people have, trying to get you to release your money to them. That caused a lot of emotional pain. These are people who you've loved deep down, and they're turning into vampires trying to suck the life out of me." For some, winning the lottery was behaviorally dangerous. Ronnie Music Jr., for example, won $3 million in a Georgia lottery but found the temptation to make even more money too great and eventually invested part of his winnings in a crystal methamphetamine ring. He recently started serving a 21-year sentence for the crime. The Existence of Spiritual Danger Stories like these are not unusual. In fact, they're more the norm than the exception. Winning the lottery has been described as a "curse," and according to the National Endowment for Financial Education, 70% of those who receive large cash windfalls lose them within just a few years. Winning a large amount of money can be physically, emotionally and behaviorally dangerous because money, at it's core, can be spiritually dangerous. Jesus Talked about Money... A Lot; Jesus of Nazareth warned his followers about this nearly two thousand years ago; he talked about money more than any other topic aside from the Kingdom of God. Why? Was he trying to solicit money from his listeners? No, Jesus wasn't seeking their money, he was seeking their hearts; and he knew these two things were desperately interconnected. He famously taught, "Where your treasure is, there your heart will be also" (Matthew 6:21), and although he never condemned material wealth (or those who possessed it), he didwarn against the obsessive pursuit of money: "No one can serve two masters, for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and money" (Matthew 6:24). The Lottery Can Become an Obsession Interestingly, the vast majority of people who play the lottery have been playing it for years. Several winners are, in fact, prior winners. Most jackpot winners have been consistently pursuing the dream of a "big win" for a very long time. One such long-time player (and multiple winner), Richard Lustig, even wrote a book teaching other lottery players how to re-invest their winnings – by playing the lottery more frequently. Lottery winners are often devoted lottery players; they have been consistently (and often obsessively) pursuing money. And that's spiritually dangerous. The Relationship between Satisfaction and Duration Most of us recognize the relationship between satisfaction and duration. The longer something lasts (and the longer we enjoy it), the more satisfying we typically find it to be. In seeking the next big lottery jackpot, most players hope to win enough money to last the rest of their lives. Why? Because they are seeking satisfaction that will last a lifetime. But if the Christian worldview is true, each of us are eternal beings, created in the image of God, and destined to live forever - well beyond the temporal lives in which we could spend our lottery winnings. If we're looking for real satisfaction, the kind that lasts forever, we must look to God rather than money. The cultural proverb, "You can't take it with you," is true of money, but not true of God. He goes with us into eternity, well beyond our lottery winnings. The Goal of Life The lottery can be so dangerous because it takes your eyes off the goal. Not the physical, emotional or behavior goal, but the spiritual goal: to seek and find the true source of eternal satisfaction. [written by J. Buhari Shocks APC, Calls For Cancellation Of Tenure Elongation For Oyegun, Others Posted: 27 Mar 2018 06:52 AM PDT Members of the National Executive Committee (NEC) of the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC) were left in shock at the ongoing NEC meeting in Abuja after President Muhammadu Buhari called for the cancellation of tenure extension for party officials. Mr. President described as unconstitutional, the elongation of the tenure of the current Officers of the party, led by John Oyegun. Buhari said that he had reflected on the proposed tenure elongation and also sought advice and had come to the conclusion that it is unconstitutional. Below is the full text of the president's speech: I am delighted to once again welcome you to this National Executive Committee Meeting of our great party. As we usually do, I hope we will take the opportunity of this gathering to resolve outstanding issues and consolidate our plans towards making APC the strongest defender of the interests of our people. In particular, I think it is important for me to speak quickly on the contentious issue of the tenure of our National and State Executive Officers. As we all know, a motion was moved at the last National Executive Committee meeting of February 27, 2018, to the effect that when the tenure of the current executives expire in June this year, they should be allowed to continue for one year. This motion was duly carried by a majority of members present at the last NEC Meeting, even though some of our party members have since spoken up very vehemently against it. Others have even taken the matter to court. On my own part, I have taken some time to review and seek advise on the resolution. And what I found is that it contravenes both our party Constitution and the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. While the APC Constitution, in Article 17(1) and 13.2(B), limits the tenure of elected officers to four years, renewable once by another election, the 1999 Constitution of Nigeria (as amended), in section 223, also prescribes periodic elections for party executives at regular intervals, which must not exceed four years. Furthermore, Article 31 of our Party Constitution provides that any principal officer wishing to re-contest or contest for another post, must resign from his current post at least one month before the election In this circumstance, what is expected of us is to conduct fresh elections, once the tenure of the current executives approaches its end. A Caretaker Committee cannot remedy this situation, and cannot validly act in place of elected officers. Furthermore, I think if we deviate from the constitutional provisions, we might be endangering the fortunes of our party. If the tenure of our party executives can be legally faulted, then it means that any nominations and primary elections that they may conduct, can also be faulted. This is not to talk of divisions that would arise, and is already arising within the party, when some of our members feel that they are being denied the right to aspire to executive positions, or that internal democracy is not at play within the party. I am therefore of the firm view that it is better to follow strictly the dictates of our party and national constitutions, rather than put APC and its activities at grave risk. Fortunately, we have already approved a timetable for the holding of congresses and elections. I think these should be allowed to go forward and all efforts should now be geared towards making them a great success. Once again, I welcome you all to this meeting with the hope that we will promote, always, the highest interest of the party and of our people. - Muhammadu Buhari culled from Olu famous Mr Olumide's Blog |

He was yesterday taken before Ejigbo Magistrate's Court. Preliminary investigation revealed that the 34-year-old suspect, Akinola Akeem, usually come from Ijebu-Ode Ogun state to operate in Lagos.
