Goodluck Jonathan Reacts To CBN Billions Allegations Posted: 26 Mar 2018 04:05 AM PDT Former President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan has raised the alarm over alleged plans that 'certain faceless and identified persons have sworn to malign' his name. The former president disclosed this through his facebook account that truth would surely prevail. Recall that Vice President Yemi Osinbajo had disclosed last week that ex-President Goodluck Jonathan's administration spent only N153 billion on infrastructure in the three years preceding 2014, N150 billion was shared in just two weeks before 2015 elections. "In one single transaction, a few weeks to the 2015 elections, sums of a $100,289 million were just frittered away by a few. When you consider that in 2014, as the Minister of Finance has said, that oil price was an average of $110 a barrel and only N99 billion was spent on power, works and housing and when we talk about the economy, we talk as if these are normal by every standard", Osinbajo said. Similarly, newsmen gathered from the presidency on Sunday night that there was evidence that the CBN got specific instruction to ensure billions were moved from the bank directly to the residence of the former president Goodluck Jonathan. "In one particular instance over N70 billion was released in parts from the national treasury between January 8 and February 25, 2015. "The over $289M which was also referenced last week by the Vice President is said to be included in this particular series of illegal transactions. "Besides, that in another illegal disbursement, the minutes of the Central Bank board meeting of 25th August 2014 indicated the board's okay of another N60B requested by the former President and released later by the Central Bank", a source told newsmen. Jonathan's reaction In view of these allegations, the former President, on Sunday night, wrote on his facebook account; "It has been brought to my attention that while I am away promoting democracy in Sierra Leone, a campaign will be unleashed against me to falsely impugn my name using both faceless and identified persons. "When I was in power I said my ambition is not worth the blood of any Nigerian. Even out of power, I continue to hold that belief. "What I will say however, is that no matter how far and fast falsehood has traveled, it must eventually be overtaken by truth. - GEJ". culled from Olu famous Mr Olumide's Blog |
Transparency International Reveals New Details About Nigeria's Growing Corruption Posted: 26 Mar 2018 03:35 AM PDT Transparency International (TI) has released all facts to defend its ratings and assertion that corruption is getting worse in Nigeria. In a tweet thread, the global corruption watchdog explained that 9 sources were used to arrive at Nigeria's score of 27/100 in the Corruption Perception Index 2017. This score puts the country as the 148 most corruption of 180 countries surveyed across the globe (a 12 place drop from 2016 ranking). How come corruption is increasing under this government? All the sources rated Nigeria low in the year under review. This, thus, affected the final rating of the country in 2017 by TI. These nine sources are World Bank, African Development Bank, The Economic Intelligence Unit of the Economist, World Economic Forum, World Justice Project, V-Dem Institute, the PRS Group, Bertelsmann Transformation index and Global Risk Insight. Presidency reacts The Nigerian government said 2017 CPI contracts obtainable facts as regards anti-corruption drive of the country. The report was summarily called a mere fiction and political distraction. "Anybody who knows where Nigeria was coming from would not believe that corruption is worse under the Buhari administration. "We wonder where they got their facts from. At a time, they are alleging increase in the incidence of corruption under this government, the whole of Africa is applauding by choosing President Buhari as the continental Champion to lead the fight against it. Nothing can be more eloquent than this. "In the end, this whole episode may turn out to be just a political distraction, given the strong views some of TI's patrons have expressed against the Buhari administration. "This notwithstanding, facts are facts, and those facts won't cease to be facts even if you don't care to pay attention to them," the statement said. culled from Olu famous Mr Olumide's Blog |
Seriously? Over 80,000 'Ghost Officers' Uncovered In Nigerian Police Posted: 26 Mar 2018 03:35 AM PDT The 371,800 figure often quoted as the number of members of the Nigeria Police Force in the country included no fewer than 80,115 'ghost officers', data obtained from the Office of the Accountant-General of the Federation revealed. The data, according to PT, showed that following the full integration of payrolls of the country's 42 police commands and formations into the federal government Integrated Payroll and Personnel Information System (IPPIS) last February, staff count stood at only 291,685, with gross salary of about N22.3 million. The extra number of officers, which the top hierarchy of the police failed to account for, have for several years been drawing billions in salaries and other benefits. At the meeting of the Federal Executive Council in Abuja last Wednesday, the Minister of Finance, Kemi Adeosun, presented an updated report on the implementation of the IPPIS. The minister confirmed that 511 ministries, departments and agencies (MDAs) have been captured under the system, with staff count of about 607,843. Of this number, the minister said, 469 MDAs, with staff count of 316,158, and gross salary of N43.98 billion, were from MDAs whose payrolls have been captured under the IPPIS as at March 20. Mrs Adeosun said this did not cover staff count of 291,685 from the 42 police commands and formations across the country captured on IPPIS platform as at February which accounted for a gross pay of over N22.3 billion. In addition, she said staff count of para-military agencies, namely Nigeria Immigration Service, Nigeria Prison Service and Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps under the IPPS to date stood at about 100,822, with a trial payroll cost of over N11.5 billion for the corresponding period. The figures, which the minister said have been sent for review and update against the April 2018 payroll involved a staff count almost the size of the extra ghost officers uncovered in the police payroll. The minister said government saved over N68 billion on personnel cost though the full deployment of the IPPS in the payrolls of MDAs in spite of increase in personnel, including the recent employment of fresh 10,000 officers by the Nigerian Police. Until last February, the police authorities have always resisted government's proposal to bring its payroll under IPPIS, one of the public finance reform policies for personnel management and payroll system in support of manpower planning and budgeting. Early last month, there were simultaneous protests in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja and Port Harcourt to kick against attempts to do this. The protesters had argued that the proposed integration of the police into the IPPIS system by government would work against the smooth operations of the Force, as the arrangement would delay the prompt payment of salaries of officers every month. But, government insisted on going ahead with its phased deployment of the scheme in all MDAs, which had the police, para-military agencies, military and federal tertiary institutions covered under Phase 3. Although the minister did not say how much government saved as a result of the removal of the over 80,000 additional names on the police payroll at the completion of the integration process in February, she however confirmed aggregate savings in personnel costs for all MDAs since 2007 was about N288 billion. She said with the completion of the exercise, the police payroll at the moment was not only efficient and accurate, police officers across the country now receive their salaries promptly on or before 20th of every month. Premium Times is yet to confirm the minister's assertions. Prior to being brought under the IPPIS platform, PT learnt officers' have been complaining of unapproved deductions from their monthly pay, apart from the official tax obligations they have to bear along with contributions to other benefit schemes. PT was not able to independently confirm with the police authorities what the latest details were of their payrolls since being brought on the IPPIS platform. Police officers spoken with refused to comment as they referred the reporter to the Inspector-General of Police, who they said was the only official authorised to speak on such "sensitive issues." When contacted, police spokesperson Jimoh Moshood did not return calls or reply text messages sent to him. culled from Olu famous Mr Olumide's Blog |
Posted: 26 Mar 2018 02:35 AM PDT The presidency last night said that there was evidence that the nation's apex bank, the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), got specific instruction to ensure billions were moved from the bank directly to the residence of former president Goodluck Jonathan. A source in the presidency said more compelling details have been established showing how several tranches of funds were illegally removed from Nigerians money by the Jonathan's administration specifically ahead of the 2015 presidential elections. The inside source disclosed that, the former National Security Adviser, NSA personally supervised the physical transfer of the money from the CBN vaults to the private residence of the former President. According to the source, "In one particular instance over N70 billion was released in parts from the national treasury between January 8 and February 25, 2015. The over $289M which was also referenced last week by the Vice President is said to be included in this particular series of illegal transactions. "Besides, that in another illegal disbursement, the minutes of the Central Bank board meeting of 25th August 2014 indicated the board's okay of another N60B requested by the former President and released later by the Central Bank." A presidency source specifically claimed that the sum which was okayed by the CBN board was not tied to any project or procurement, and was meant and disbursed purely for campaign purposes, through the office of the then NSA and the SSS leadership at the time. He said that N60 billion that was okayed by the CBN on August 25, 2014 was said to have been shared between the two security agencies thus: N40B went to the NSA while N20 billion was released to the State Security Services (SSS). "While some of these newly emerging fund disbursements have been traced to the former NSA, there are indications that some of the funds are unconnected to the ongoing Defence contract trials of the former NSA, while some might," he said. This new discovery is coming few days after Vice President Yemi Osinbajo described grand corruption as the elephant in the room when discussing the Nigerian economy. Recall that Osinbajo, in a recent speech, had alleged that weeks to the 2015 election under the administration of former president Goodluck Jonathan about N100B was released and embezzled. He also disclosed that about $289m was disbursed illegally about the same time. The new discovery revealed that the $289m mentioned by the Vice President was released on February 25, 2015 Details of the deal shows that documents including cash vouchers indicate that $289,202,382 was released in cash to the NIA by the Central Bank of Nigeria from the Joint Venture (JV) Cash Call Account No. 000-0000-11658-366 of the NNPC/NAPIMS with JP Morgan Chase Bank, New York, USA. At the exchange rate then of $199 to a naira, $289m was equivalent to about N60 billion. But had the money not been stolen, it would be at today' s rate over N104B. According to the source, further findings showed that in yet another set of illegal fund withdrawals under one week between January 8 and 16, 2015, the sum of N1.5 billion was released in three tranches of N300m, N400m and N800m respectively. He said, "This money was released from the MEA Research Library Account to the Jointrust Dimension reportedly owned by Danjuma Yusuf and Nenadi Esther Usman." The source further said the sum was transferred to their various political associates, which included a former minister that is critical to President Muhammadu Buhari's government. Further findings showed that N350 million was allegedly transferred to the former minister through his Zenith Bank Account No. 1004735721, on February 2, 2015. Also, another N250 million was allegedly transferred to him through the same Zenith Bank Account on February 19, 2015. According to Vanguard, a document further showed that yet another N10 billion was released to the Office of the National Security Adviser by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) on September 15, 2015. The money was said to have been released in tranches of foreign exchange of $47 million, $5 million, 4 million Euros and 1.6 million Euros. A letter from the Office of the NSA in November, 2014 further showed that the monies were released by the CBN as 'funds for special services'. "Further to our discussion, you are pleased requested to provide the sum of Forty Seven Million United States Dollars (USD47,000,000,00)cash out of the Ten Billion Naira (N10,000,000,000,00) and the balance in Euro to this office for special services," a letter signed by the former NSA read. Findings have shown that this particular CBN release of N10B was sourced in November 2014 from a N40 Billion CBN released funds meant for Corporate Social Responsibility, CSR. It was this N10B that former President Jonathan instructed the CBN Governor and the then NSA to deliver to him personally in a private residence in Abuja. Sources said the money was illegally transferred using CBN van for the use of "PDP Presidential Primaries." An official source noted that even more illegal transactions would soon be unearthed. culled from Olu famous Mr Olumide's Blog |
Teenage Girl Taking Driver’s Exam Crashes Into Test Office Posted: 26 Mar 2018 02:35 AM PDT A teenager's driving exam came to a crashing halt on Thursday as she plowed into the testing office. The 17-year-old girl accidentally had the car in 'drive' instead of 'reverse' as she was trying to back out of a parking spot in front of the test location. The incident happened in Buffalo, Minnesota, last Wednesday. The result — besides a failed exam — left the nose of the silver SUV in the front of the building. "The impact caused significant damage to the vehicle and building," Buffalo police said. The 60-year-old woman administering the test was taken to Buffalo Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Police said no charges are pending. culled from Olu famous Mr Olumide's Blog |

Lucky Nigerian Diagnosed With Brain Tumour, Left Paralyzed... Shares His Recovery Story Posted: 26 Mar 2018 01:30 AM PDT Here's AdeDeji John Adeyemi's touching story; Hallelujah! I'm a living testimony. I was diagnosed with a brain tumour in October 2016. I went in for a surgery one year later on the 2nd of October 2017 and came out successfully by the grace of God... The surgeon had said they will only be able to take out about 90% of the tumour (because of its location) in a surgery that should last about 4-5 hours with possibility of going paralyzed on the left part of my body if I didn't recover from the post surgical trama of the area of the brain to be operated on (Right Brain Secondary Motor Area). After 9 hours of surgery, they were able to completely remove the entire tumour. But I went completely paralyzed on the left side of my body with zero bowel movements, a tube to leak urine passed to my bladder, swollen brain with a tube to drain the fluids in my skull and my left jaw was locked. However, to the surprise of the surgeon, doctors and physiotherapists, I gained complete movement of my left side within 2 weeks and relearned proper coordinated movement in a month. . I had suffered from seizures on a daily basis, from late November 2015 and several medical tests unsuccessfully gave wrong diagnosis: from cerebral malaria to ischemic stroke and all-what-not. It was 2 years of devastating ordeal. I even nose-dived into depression at some point and would prefer staying in quiet dark rooms alone. At tipping points, when it became overwhelming, I contemplated suicide and my work life, social life and everything around me was affected but Jesus Christ came through in all of these. I'm healthy and doing well. I've come out of it stronger and blessed beyond what words can express. The removed tumour was taken to the lab and tested. It was a type II, which means I won't require any radiotherapy or chemotherapy. Glory to God! It's 6 months after surgery and I'll be 35 years old in a few days time. I'm forever grateful to God and I thank everyone that stood by me during the journey literally through the valley of the shadow of death. I celebrate life. I pray that you receive the miraculous in your biddings as well in Jesus name. Amen. #testimony #grateful #blessed #healed #crowns culled from Olu famous Mr Olumide's Blog |
Woman Who Has 4 Children "Dies" In Lover's House In Lagos Posted: 26 Mar 2018 12:55 AM PDT The Lagos State Police Command has arrested a man who's a resident of Adeniji Street, Iyana Ishashi area of the state, identified as Stephen Uwa, for the death of his lover, 45-year-old Joy Vincent. The woman, a mother of 4 children, had spent nights with the man in his house since last Sunday. He was alleged to have returned her dead to her house on Osha Arigba Street, Imude, and fled. But Uwa, who was arrested the following day, claimed that she was unconscious when he took her home. It was gathered by The Punch that Uwa and three others had on Thursday brought the woman in a vehicle, but did not meet anybody at home. A woman, who sold confectionery on the street, was said to have helped the suspect to call one of the deceased's children, Ikechukwu, from school. When Ikechukwu arrived, Uwa was said to have collected the keys to her apartment from him and asked him to go call his aunt, who lived some distance away. The family was said to have met her dead body in the house. Neighbours of the deceased declined to speak during a visit to the area on Friday. However, the correspondent, who acted as a sympathiser, heard one of the deceased's children recounting the incident to some people. He said, "IK (Ikechukwu) said Stephen (Uwa) came to the house in a car with a man and two women. When they drove into the compound, one of our neigbours who sells in front of the next house told them that nobody was around. "He then requested that they call IK, whose school is on the next street. When IK came, he (Uwa) told him that my mother was sick and requested the key to her apartment. IK collected the key from the neighbour and gave him. Stephen told him to go call our aunt, Aunty Esther, who lives on Alafia Street, which is about five minutes' walk from our house. "Before IK and Aunt Esther returned, they had driven away after laying her corpse on the bed. They covered her body with clothes to look as if she was sleeping. I still can't believe my mother is gone. She was healthy when she left home." The aunt, Esther, said she suspected foul play when she got to the deceased's house and did not find the people who brought her home. "My suspicion was confirmed as soon as I entered my sister's room and found her lifeless body covered with clothes. I raised the alarm and went to the Ilemba Police Station to report the case," she added. However, Uwa told the police that Vincent arrived in his house on Sunday, adding that when they woke up together on Thursday, she complained of stomach pain and asked that she be taken to her house. He added that as of the time he took her home, she was alive, but unconscious. The Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Chike Oti, who confirmed the incident, said the corpse had been deposited in the Badagry General Hospital mortuary for autopsy. He said, "The woman had about four children. Her sister reported that Stephen (Uwa) dropped her on the bed covered with clothes and left without telling anybody anything. She said she discovered that her sister was dead. "The corpse has been deposited in the mortuary for a post-mortem. The suspect has been arrested. He admitted that the woman came to his house on Sunday, slept in the house and on Thursday morning, she complained of stomach pain and asked him to take her to the house. "Investigation is ongoing. The suspect will be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department, Yaba, for further investigation." culled from Olu famous Mr Olumide's Blog |
Dino Melaye Cries Out: "They Are After My Life" Posted: 26 Mar 2018 12:30 AM PDT The embattled lawmaker representing Kogi West Senatorial District, Dino Melaye, has petitioned the Inspector-General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, and several global bodies over what he described as a threat to his life. In the strong petitions, Melaye alleged that there was a plan to murder him "extrajudicially" by his "political enemies" in collusion with the men of the Kogi State Police Command. The senator also petitioned the United Nations' Resident Representative and the Ambassadors of the United States, Germany, Canada as well as the High Commissioner of the United Kingdom in Nigeria. Others petitioned were the Amnesty International, Transparency International and the Human Rights Watch. The petitions were signed on behalf of Melaye by his lawyer, Messrs Ricky Tarfa and Co. Melaye, who is the Chairman, Senate Committee on FCT, in the petition to the IG, urged the police boss to raise a neutral police team to investigate the allegations of gunrunning being levelled against him by the Kogi State Police Command allegedly in conspiracy with the Kogi State Government. The lawmaker called for the intervention of the IG, members of the international community and global human rights bodies to save him from the "wilful, intentional harassment, oppression, political victimisation and threat to life." Melaye, in the letter personally signed by him and addressed to the UN and other envoys in Nigeria, urged them to help guarantee his fundamental rights to liberty. He said, "As things stand, I live each day in constant and reasonable fear for my life, looking over my shoulders and being harassed by the named politicians. The police are hand in glove with these politicians. "I am a law-abiding citizen who voluntarily submitted myself before the FCT High Court to answer charges which I know are unsustainable. "However, the situation I am in right now gives me a reason to believe that the law enforcement agencies, particularly the police, are in cohorts with my political enemies and can even go to the extent of terminating my life extrajudicially. "I therefore seek your intervention in the circumstances to ensure that my fundamental human rights which both Nigeria and your countries are party to are guaranteed and my life protected." culled from Olu famous Mr Olumide's Blog |
Female Student Robbed, R*pped By Bus Driver Posted: 26 Mar 2018 12:30 AM PDT The Ondo State Police Command on Sunday arrested a driver, Yusuf Waheed, for allegedly robbing and rrping a female undergraduate in a bush. The victim had reportedly joined Waheed's vehicle from the Agbogbo area of Akure, Ondo State, en route to Ile-Ife, Osun State, sometime last week. After other passengers had alighted at their various destinations, the driver allegedly drove the victim into the bush and brought out a knife. He was said to have threatened to kill her if she did not succumb to his request. After r*ping her, the 35-year-old reportedly robbed the victim of her valuables, including a handset, iPad and N4,000. The state Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Femi Joseph, said the command, on receiving the information, swung into action and tracked the suspect to Ogun State where the victim's phone was recovered. Joseph said, "A search warrant was executed in his house. A flash drive with the iPad cover of the student was also recovered. "He has confessed to the crime and blamed his action on the devil. 8 Things To Know About Jesus' Triumphal Entry Posted: 25 Mar 2018 06:57 AM PDT God never missed an opportunity to use powerful symbols throughout Scripture. Jesus' famous ride on this lowly animal reveals much about Christ's character and purpose. Prior to entering Jerusalem, Christ instructed his disciples to acquire for him a donkey Matthew 21:1-5. (In Matthew's Gospel a donkey and a colt, two poetic Hebrew parallel phrases.) Why did Jesus ride a donkey? 1. Christ is claiming His rightful place as the prophesied Messiah Zechariah wrote: "Behold, your king comes to you, triumphant and victorious. He is humble and riding on an ass, on a colt, the foal of an ass." (Zechariah 9:9) KJV. Every Jew would know Zechariah's messianic prophecy. That's why the crowds hailed Jesus as their king shouting, "Hosanna! Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord!" (Matthew 21:9). Jesus is the true Davidic Messiah and king. 2. Jesus rode a donkey to symbolize peace Why didn't Jesus ride a warhorse, as He did in Revelation? Mark Boda explains: In the ancient Middle Eastern world, leaders rode horses if they rode to war, but donkeys if they came in peace. First Kings 1:33 mentions Solomon riding a donkey on the day he was recognized as the new king of Israel. Other instances of leaders riding donkeys are Judges 5:10; 10:4; 12:14; and 2 Samuel 16:2. The mention of a donkey in Zechariah 9:9-10 fits the description of a king who would be "righteous and having salvation, gentle." Rather than riding to conquer, this king would enter in peace. Zechariah 9:10 highlights this peace: "I will take away the chariots from Ephraim and the war-horses from Jerusalem, and the battle bow will be broken. He will proclaim peace to the nations. His rule will extend from sea to sea and from the River to the ends of the earth." Note the many details symbolic of peace in this prophecy: "Take away the chariots": an end to the main vehicle of war. "Take away... the war-horses": no need for horses used in war. "The battle bow will be broken": no need for bows or arrows for fighting. "He will proclaim peace to the nations": His message will be one of reconciliation. "His rule shall be from sea to sea": the King will control extended territory with no enemies of concern. Jesus fulfills this prediction of Zechariah. Worldwide peace proclaimed by this humble King will be a fulfillment of the angels' song in Luke 2:14: "Glory to God in the highest, And on earth peace, goodwill toward men!" (NKJV). 3. Christ's journey on a donkey harkened back to the foreshadowing of a father sacrificing his own only son Isaac, a type of Christ, rides a donkey to be slain by his father Abraham on the altar (Genesis 49:10-12). 4. Jesus' journey on a donkey symbolized God's blessing to His people Jacob's divine blessing over his son Judah includes a reference to a donkey and a donkey's foal (Genesis 49:10-12): "The scepter will not depart from Judah, nor the ruler's staff from between his feet until he to whom it belongs shall come and the obedience of the nations shall be his. He will tether his donkey to a vine, his colt to the choicest branch; he will wash his garments in wine, his robes in the blood of grapes. His eyes will be darker than wine, his teeth whiter than milk." Jesus is born of the tribe of Judah, eternally enthroned. Jacob's prophecy describes a king who washes with wine (His blood) and has white teeth (purity). Incidentally, read verses 14-16about Isaachar, the rawboned donkey, who bows in submission! 5. Jesus' triumphal journey teaches us that after all of the sacrifices offered for sin, we can enter the rest of faith because of His final sacrifice (Hebrews 10:12) Exodus 23:12 states God's clear command: "Six days do your work, but on the seventh day do not work, so that your ox and your donkey may rest, and so that the slave born in your household and the foreigner living among you may be refreshed." 6. Emissaries sent donkeys overloaded with gifts to appease the wrath of an enemy, preventing bloodshed Jacob sent donkeys packed with treasures to avoid the wrath of his brother Esau (Genesis 33:8). Abigail brought donkeys packed with food to keep David from killing her family. Nabal, her husband, had angered the king-to-be. The wise woman knelt before David and said in 1 Samuel 25:26: "And now, my lord, as surely as the Lord your God lives and as you live, since the Lord has kept you from bloodshed and from avenging yourself with your own hands, may your enemies and all who are intent on harming my lord be like Nabal." 7. God used a donkey to speak His judgment! Yes, Balaam's donkey actually warns the prophet of His disobedience. In Numbers 22, Moses writes: "… Then the Lord opened the donkey's mouth, and it said to Balaam, 'What have I done to you to make you beat me these three times?' Balaam answered the donkey, 'You have made a fool of me! If only I had a sword in my hand, I would kill you right now.' The donkey said to Balaam, 'Am I not your own donkey, which you have always ridden, to this day? Have I been in the habit of doing this to you?' 'No,' he said. Then the Lord opened Balaam's eyes, and he saw the angel of the Lord standing in the road with his sword drawn. So he bowed low and fell facedown. The angel of the Lord asked him, 'Why have you beaten your donkey these three times? I have come here to oppose you because your path is a reckless one before me.'" Samson defeated the Philistines with the jawbone of an ass. (Judges 15:15). God sent a lion to devour a false prophet in 1 Kings 13:27-31, while his donkey safely stood and watched. The lion did not eat the donkey. The donkey carried the slain prophet back home at God's behest. King Jehu rode a donkey into Samaria, a kind of false Jerusalem, in order to destroy the temple of the false god Baal (2 Kings 9:11-10:28). Christ entered Jerusalem's temple and pronounced judgment as He overturned the money-changer's tables in Matthew 21:12: "My house shall be called a house of prayer, but you have made it a den of thieves." 8. Jesus demonstrated that he was the burden-bearer who came to save us Baby Jesus was born in humility. Remember, a donkey carried a poor, pregnant mother named Mary all the way from Nazareth to Bethlehem. (Luke 2:4-7). This gentle beast of burden carried the Savior of the World. Jesus used the image of Mary's donkey to connect with the common people. He came for them. Jesus embraced the poor, weak and oppressed during his time here on earth. Christ's sweet, simple story of the Good Samaritan in Luke 10:33-34 is a perfect symbol of his love and compassion: "But a Samaritan, as he traveled, came where the man was; and when he saw him, he took pity on him. He went to him and bandaged his wounds, pouring on oil and wine. Then he put the man on his own donkey, brought him to an inn and took care of him." The Bible is rich in symbolism. Enjoy the triumphal entry in a deeper way this year. [written by Dr. Roger Barrier] culled from Olu famous Mr Olumide's Blog |

Dino Melaye Speaks From Abroad After Reportedly 'Fleeing' Nigeria Posted: 25 Mar 2018 05:57 AM PDT Embattled Senator Dino Melaye has spoken out from abroad after reports emerged online on Saturday and Sunday that he had fled Nigeria and vowed not to return to the country until there is a new government in Aso Rock, Abuja, as well as a new one in his home state of Kogi. What is really going on with Dino? Relying on sources, SR reported that the embattled Kogi West Senator fled Nigeria, and is prepared not to return until there is a change of governmen. According to the publication, Melaye also warned the Senate President, Bukola Saraki, and other senators to fight for him, failure of which he would bring down at least 30 senators, adding that the lawmakers held a meeting on Saturday afternoon to discuss the threat, while slating another for later in the day. In a swift reaction to the story, Senator Melaye, in a statement sent to PT, said he had no reason to flee the country, and accused SR which published the report, of spearheading a blackmail against him. The lawmaker who said the report was not true, however, did not give details of his engagement outside the country, having confirmed in a letter on Friday that he was abroad. He also did not state when he plans to return to Nigeria. His words; "For the records, I did not flee Nigeria and have no reason to flee my country leaving behind my family as the online paper wants Nigerians to believe. My attention was drawn to their lies this night, hence this public statement, lest the unsuspecting members of the public and my supporters believe the lies by Omoyele Sowore as directed by his new paymasters." He said the report was meant to cause disharmony within the senate. "The lies in the SaharaReporters' so-called news report is nothing but to cause serious disharmony in the senate and among united majority senators, who are resolute in defending democracy and its institutions no matter whose ox is gored." Earlier on Friday, in a five-page letter written by his counsel, Rickey Tarfa, Senator Melaye asked the Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, to intervene in the rough relationship he is having with police officers. The lawmaker said he was ready to submit himself to the police on the condition that he is investigated by police officers from Abuja, and not Kogi. In his statement, he attacked the police again, saying the force never invited him for questioning. In the letter, Senator Melaye said Governor Yahaya Bello of Kogi had perfected plans to "arrest and detain him, and then murder him in prison while he is awaiting trial." In the statement, however, he accused the police of being culpable in hatching the plan. "For the avoidance of doubt, I have not received any court summon either in person or by proxy in my house or office for me to appear on March 28 as being insinuated by the police regarding the latest allegation against me. "Last Monday's stage-managed parade of crime suspects in Lokoja by the Force Public Relations Officer, Mr Jimoh Moshood, where a suspect was tutored to implicate me is just a continuation and expansion of the police attempt to have me arrested at all cost and ultimately kill me. "The public will recall that on Thursday, March 1, 2018 when the Federal Government arraigned me for allegedly given "false information" to the police in a case of failed assassination plot against me, at the FCT High Court in Maitama, Abuja, SARS operatives from Kogi State Police Command laid siege on the court premises in order to prevent me from enjoying my bail with the intention to kidnap me to Lokoja to be poisoned, although it turned out to be another failed attempt on my life. "It is worrisome that the Police Headquarters has got itself entangled in the Kogi political crisis and has taken side. It is however bizarre and unprecedented that the FPRO, Mr. Moshood, will have to travel to Lokoja last Monday in order to act a script written by Governor Bello. A discerning mind will ask that, how many times has Mr. Moshood travel to Sokoto, Enugu or Lagos to parade suspects on behalf of a Police Commissioner?" Senator Melaye said he has taken up the issue "with the international community in order to report this undue intimidation and harassment." Apart from his problems with the police, Senator Melaye faces a recall from the senate as the electoral commission, INEC, on Friday, released a new timetable for his recall which had been stalled since last year based on a High Court ruling. culled from Olu famous Mr Olumide's Blog |
Nigerian Army Angry At TY Danjuma for Asking Nigerians to Defend Themselves Posted: 25 Mar 2018 05:57 AM PDT NIGERIAN ARMY PRESS STATEMENT ON THE ALLEGED MILITARY COLLUSION WITH MILITIAS/CRIMINALS MADE BY FORMER CHIEF OF ARMY STAFF 1. The attention of the Nigerian Army has been drawn to the unfortunate statement made by a former Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Theophilus Yakubu Danjuma, during the convocation ceremony of the Taraba State University on Saturday 24 March 2018 in which he categorically asserted that the Armed Forces of Nigeria was colluding with militias and other criminal elements and was unable to provide security for the citizens of Taraba State. He further called the people of Taraba State to take up arms and defend themselves. The Nigerian Army views this statement made by the former Chief of Army Staff as most unfortunate at this critical time that the military has embarked upon demilitarisation of the North Central Region of the Country. 2. While Nigerian Army would not want to join issues with the Elder Statesman, however, certain facts need to be clearly stated in the interest of the Taraba People and the Nigerian public: a. The Nigerian Army is constitutionally charged with the responsibility of defending the territorial integrity of Nigeria and to aid the civil authority whenever called upon to do so. In this light, the authorisation for the conduct of Ex AYEM AKPATUMA was authorised and troops deployed to curb menace of the herdsmen-farmers conflict and other criminal activities in the North Central Region amongst others. b. It is on record that the successes so far achieved in Ex AYEM AKPATUMA have been recognised and accepted by Nigerians. c. The public is notified that Nigerian Army personnel have had to pay the supreme price for ensuring the sustenance of security in Taraba State. For instance, a gallant non-commission officer of the Nigerian Army was beheaded on 16 March 2018 in Takum Taraba State by criminal elements. d. It is noteworthy to state that at the inception of Ex AYEM AKPATUMA, the Taraba State Government, did not cooperate with the Nigerian Army due to the Army's stance to remain absolutely neutral in the herdsmen-farmers crisis. The Nigerian Army will continue to remain as such. e. For avoidance of doubt, the Nigerian Army advises the people of Taraba State and indeed all other Nigerians to continue in their day-to-day activities and be law abiding as anyone caught with arms and ammunition will be dealt with accordance with the laws of the land. Every law-abiding citizen is assured of equal protection and security of their lives and property irrespective of his/her person. 3. You are please requested to disseminate this information to the general public through your reputable medium. 4. Thank you for your usual cooperation. Teacher Who Married His Sister In Anambra Begs For Forgiveness After Church Cleansing Posted: 25 Mar 2018 05:27 AM PDT A teacher, Chiadiakobi Ezeibekwe who married his 17-year-old sister, Chibuzor has asked for forgiveness after the entire family of Lewis Ezeibekwe, on Saturday, underwent a spiritual cleansing conducted by the Parish Priest of St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Ekwulobia, Rev. Fr. Ignatius Onwuatuegwu. The Ezeibekwes from Agba community in Ekwulobia, Aguata Local Government Area of Anambra State also cancelled the controversial marriage. According to Punch, the priest, who read from 1 Peter 24:2 of the Bible, warned against incest. He said, "This issue does not concern only the family of Lewis, it concerns the entire Ekwulobia. We are in a world that has disintegrated. This cleansing is important for all of us and the entire country. "We are here to make reparation for the sin that is already rampant in our society. I am particularly touched by this boy, Chiadi. When I came to Ekwulobia, I met him as a boy yearning for the things of God. He was the leader of the block rosary group but here we are today. When I heard the story, I was taken aback. Only God knows what happened." Before the church service commenced, eight members of the Ezeibekwe family knelt down before the traditional ruler, traditional prime minister and elders of the community and apologised to the entire Agba Ekwulobia community. Chiadikaobi also asked for forgiveness from the community for marrying his sister. He said, "What we did was wrong and an abomination to our community. I feel pained in my heart. I did not do it because I was hungry for a woman or attracted to my sister. "I apologise to everyone. I am very sorry for bringing all of you out here under the sun. Please forgive us." Also, Chibuzor said, "I ask for forgiveness." After the cleansing rites, seven girls said to be virgins, clad in white dresses, used seven palm frond branches to sweep the Ezeibekwe compound. culled from Olu famous Mr Olumide's Blog |
