10 Years After Marriage: How I’ve Been Coping Without A Child – Nollywood Actor Posted: 25 Mar 2018 02:02 AM PDT Though actor Emeka Okoro has been married for ten years, he is still looking to God for a child. However, in an encounter with Sunday Scoop, he insisted that he is not bothered that his marriage has not yet been blessed with kids. He said, "I have been married for ten years and we are praying to God for children. I am not worried about my situation. When you are in Christ, you will know that some situations are just temporary." On how he handles pressure from family members, he said, "I don't succumb to family pressure. I am a man who controls things around me, including my family; nobody can tell me what to do. My wife is not disturbed as well because we know it is just a phase. The idea of taking another wife has never come to my mind too." Explaining why he hasn't been so prominent on the scene, he said, "I am still acting and I just finished my own movie, Flee, which will be premiered on March 30. Though I have not been acting much, I have been busy too. I have a media company and I handle a lot of adverts for corporate companies. Sometimes, when you discover life, you want to diversify, but I am back to Nollywood fully now. Acting was quite fulfilling for me then; everything was okay. But along the line, the course of my life changed when I met Christ and I became a born-again Christian. When you are in Christ, God takes you through certain processes for you to become a better person. In the past, I was a playboy and I didn't care about whatever I did. Right now, I thank God in whatever I do." culled from Olu famous Mr Olumide's Blog |
Herdsmen Killings: TY Danjuma Says It's Ethnic Cleansing, Asks Nigerians To Defend Themselves Posted: 25 Mar 2018 01:27 AM PDT A former Minister of Defence and an elder statesman, Lt. Gen. Theophilus Danjuma (retd.), on Saturday, told Nigerians to defend themselves against killers in the country, saying the armed forces were not ready to defend them. Danjuma made the call while speaking at the maiden convocation of the Taraba State University, Jalingo, and the 10th anniversary of the institution. The former Chief of Army Staff stated, "I am not a politician and politics is one profession I don't want to belong to because if I am a politician, I will not say what I am going to say to you now. "When I arrived in this arena, I saw rich cultural display and I was amazed at the rich cultural heritage of our people. Taraba is a mini Nigeria with diverse ethnic groups living together peacefully, but the peace in this state is under assault. "There is an attempt at ethnic cleansing in the state and of course, some rural states in Nigeria. We must resist it. We must stop it. Every one of us must rise up. "Our Armed Forces are not neutral. They collude with the bandits to kill people, kill Nigerians. The Armed Forces guide their movements; they cover them. If you are depending on the Armed Forces to stop the killings, you will all die one by one. "This ethnic cleansing must stop in Taraba State and other rural states of Nigeria otherwise Somalia will be a child's play. "I ask every one of you to be alert and defend your country, defend your territory and defend your state. Defend yourselves because you have no other place to go. God bless our country." The call by the retired general, The Punch observes, came barely two days after residents of the Takum and Ussa Local Government Areas of Taraba State accused the Army Operation Ayem Akpatuma (Cat Race) of providing cover for the killer herdsmen to attack and kill villagers in the areas. The Chairman of Takum, Shiban Tikari, and his Ussa counterpart, Rimansikwe Karma, had, on Thursday, while conducting journalists round the villages attacked by herdsmen in their LGAs, accused the operatives of Operation Cat Race, currently going on in the state, of brutality, extortion and providing cover for herdsmen to kill the locals. Also, at the convocation, the state governor, Darius Ishaku, expressed delight at the growth of the university within 10 years of its establishment. Ishaku commended the founding fathers of the institution for their foresight in bringing university education to the doorsteps of Taraba people and pledged to continue to support the university to attain a world-class status. The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Vincent Tenebe, hailed the state government for its continued support for the rapid growth of the institution, congratulating the 5, 900 graduating students from the first five sets of the university. Tenebe urged them to be good ambassadors of the institution. The occasion witnessed the conferment of honorary doctorate on Danjuma; a former minister of the Federal Capital territory, Senator Jeremiah Useni; and Ishaku. Others were the Chairman of Tony Elumelu Foundation, Mr. Tony Elumelu, and a former Executive Secretary of the Tertiary Education Trust Fund, Prof. Suleiman Bogoro. Danjuma had, earlier in the day, inaugurated the 6.75km township network of roads in Jalingo, the state capital, constructed by the Ishaku administration. Reactions Meanwhile, two Middle Belt groups and the pan-Yoruba socio-political organisation, Afenifere, have supported Danjuma's call on Nigerians to defend themselves against killers. The President, Middle Belt Youth Council, Emma Zopmal, in an interview with The Punch, said Danjuma's words should be taken seriously. He stated, "For him (Danjuma) to speak about the herdsmen's killings in Nigeria at this point in time, it means the situation must be getting out of hand due to the negligence of the government or its interest in the enterprise of killings. "With his strategic position in the world today, every bit of his words should be taken more seriously. I also do not think that this is the first time he is advising Nigerians to be careful with the situation of Fulani herdsmen killings." On his part, President, National Council of Tiv Youths, Chief John Akperashi, said Danjuma's indictment of the military should be taken seriously. He stated, "By this therefore, the security establishments, especially the military, should be conscious of the reality that it (military) is getting unpopular and Nigerians are fast losing hopes in its capacity to protect and secure both the citizens and entity." He however said it was not only Taraba State that was under attack. The youth leader added, "The entire Benue valley is endangered and there is an orchestrated, premeditated, sponsored and coordinated agenda to overrun the Benue valley through very dehumanising and mind-boggling, demented schemes for which he, Danjuma, should be aware." Afenifere agreed with the retired general that the killings were as part of "an ethnic cleansing agenda" which it stated that the people must resist. Afenifere spokesman, Yinka Odumakin, said, "T. Y. Danjuma has said the truth. If the government cannot defend the people, the people should defend themselves. When you have an IG, who, instead of disarming herdsmen who are carrying weapons, is asking those defending themselves to submit their own arms, that shows clearly that there is an ethnic cleansing agenda and Gen. Danjuma is right in observing it." culled from Olu famous Mr Olumide's Blog |
Presidency, Dapchi Parents Disagree On Return Of Girls To School Posted: 25 Mar 2018 01:02 AM PDT The parents of the released Dapchi schoolgirls and the Federal Government may be set for a showdown on the plan of the government to send the released schoolgirls to continue their education at the Government Girls Science and Technical College, Dapchi, Yobe State. While some parents have vowed that their daughters would not return to the GGSTC, Dapchi, to continue their education, the Federal Government insisted the girls would resume normal academic activities this week in the school where the girls were abducted. Boko Haram terrorists had released the girls dramatically on Wednesday in Dapchi while they were brought to Abuja to meet with President Muhammadu Buhari on Friday. Five of the 110 girls, abducted on February 19, reportedly died of shock on the day of their abduction while one, Leah Sharibu, who was said to have refused to renounce Christianity, is still being held by the Islamic insurgents. The Secretary, Abducted Dapchi Girls' Parents Association, Mallam Bukar Kachalla, disclosed the parents' position in a telephone interview with The Punch. According to him, the parents have resolved to relocate the girls because they have lost confidence in the security arrangements in the town and the determination of the parents not to further put the lives of the girls in danger. The parents' position emerged a day after the Vice-Chancellor of Nigeria Turkish Nile University, Prof. Huseyin Sert, offered to award scholarships to the schoolgirls to pursue their education. But the Federal Government said the freed girls would return to Dapchi and continue their education at the GGSTC this week. The Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, who stated this in an interview with The Punch in Abuja on Saturday, also allayed the fears of parents concerning the schoolgirls. But Kachalla stated, "We have decided that none of the girls released will go back to the school even if the government provides all the security in the world in the school. "Our resolve is predicated on the fact that we have been having security (presence) in Dapchi for the past five years, but the security (operatives) were suddenly withdrawn; and 21days after, the town was attacked and the girls were abducted. "Now, what kind of assurance do we have that even if they (government) provide security, they will still not withdraw it someday? So, we cannot afford to risk the lives of the girls again." culled from Olu famous Mr Olumide's Blog |
Worry As Expected Release Of Christian Dapchi Girl, Leah, Fails Posted: 25 Mar 2018 01:02 AM PDT Residents of Dapchi, Yobe State yesterday waited in vain for the return of Leah Sheribu, the only girl still held captive by Boko Haram following the February 19, 2018 abduction of school girls in the town. Residents picked up information about Leah's possible return at about noon. Boko Haram members were said to be on their way to the town with her. According to The Nation, moments after the information spread, some residents quickly went into hiding, some locked themselves up at home, while shop owners shut down. The streets were soon deserted for fear that the Boko Haram members might have a different agenda. Residents of Dapchi, Yobe State are expecting the release of Leah Sheribu, the only girl still being held by Boko Haram insurgents who recently kidnapped some girls in the town and returned them on Wednesday. Some residents even went as far as posting on their Facebook pages detailing the location and the time the insurgents will arrive the expectant town. It all turned out to become a situation of waiting for Godot as Leah was nowhere in sight. It was observed that soldiers deployed to the town also withdrew from security check points on the road leading into and out of the town apparently to give the 'visitors' a smooth entry and exit. Police Inspector General Ibrahim Idris who was also scheduled to visit the town yesterday called it off. He told reporters in Maiduguri that Leah was expected to be released yesterday. His words: "I am supposed to go to Dapchi today (yesterday), but because I learnt that that schoolgirl, Leah, may be released today, that was why I had to shelve my trip to the town. "It is very understandable that is such circumstance one does not create too much security presence in the area in a manner that it could sabotage the efforts being made there. "You know, I move with helicopter, and by the time I fly into the area they (Boko Haram) may think I break what the understanding may have been there. So I have to postpone the visit to Dapchi." Leah's father, Nathan Sheribu told The Nation that she was yet to be returned. He said:"I heard about the release of my daughter from the media. Many people were calling me and congratulating me but I have not seen my daughter up to the time we are talking now." culled from Olu famous Mr Olumide's Blog |
How Strange Disease Paralysed Six Siblings Posted: 25 Mar 2018 12:22 AM PDT Six members of a family in Gitata, Nasarawa State have been left paralysed by a strange disease, under very controversial circumstances. Each of the six siblings got paralysed after turning 18 years, the eldest male in the family, Danlami Danladi, said. NAN reports that their father, Danladi Bawa died in 1990 and their mother in 2017 and both were said not to have died of the decease. Danlami, 38 years old, said: "Our parents did not die of this disease. They gave birth to eight of us and six of us have been paralysed by a mysterious ailment. "When we grew up and reached the age of 18, we found ourselves paralysed. We don't know what happens and this kind of disease. "When my father died in 1990, it was our mother that usually provided us with our needs. Her death affected us more as we found it difficult to eat and take care of our medical treatment. "I am the second born of our parents and I was paralysed in 2006. And let me tell you what disturbs us is that, six of us were paralysed when we were above the age of 18. "It was after we grew up and we don't know what is happening to our family. "All of us went to the Federal Medical Centre, Keffi and Godiya Clinic, Jabba Local Government Area of Kaduna State, after various tests, they told us that nothing was discovered. "We pray that we will be healed of this mysterious disease one day," he said. Danladi appealed to the federal and state governments as well as well-meaning Nigerians to come to their assistance through the provision of foodstuffs as well as medical needs. He said that because of their conditions they could not fend for themselves. "I was repairing handsets before but now I cannot do the job because I have been paralysed and I pray that God will heal me and my brothers and sisters from this kind of mysterious disease," he added. Other members of the family are Asabe, married and has five children, Pius, Maikasuwa, Danjuma and Cecelia, all paralysed. Their siblings, Hanatu and Joshua are the ones free of the disease, being the youngest members of the family. Shuaibu Ahmadu, a resident and hunter in the area, said the people were shocked by the affliction and prayed God to heal them. "This disease will only paralyse them when they grow up, we wonder why. "We pray God to heal them and protect the remaining two children of the family from the disease," Ahmadu said. culled from Olu famous Mr Olumide's Blog |

Man Allegedly Uses POS To Defraud Customers N1.2Billion In Lagos Posted: 24 Mar 2018 07:27 AM PDT The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Lagos Zonal office, on Wednesday, March 21, 2018, arraigned one Ifeanyi Nwaneri before Justice Olusola Ajibike Williams of the Special Offences Court sitting in Ikeja, Lagos on a five-count charge bordering on stealing to the tune of N1.2billion. The defendant, a customer with Access Bank Plc, was alleged to have fraudulently carried out several transactions on Point of Sales (POS) terminal issued to him by the bank. One of the counts reads: "That you, Ifeanyi Nwaneri, sometime between September 1 and 4, 2017, at Lagos within the jurisdiction of this Honourable Court, dishonestly converted for the use of Sessy Global Ventures the sum of N25, 000, 000.00 (Twenty-five Million Naira only), property of Access Bank Plc." Another count reads: "That you, Ifeanyi Nwaneri, sometime between August 15 and September 12, 2017, at Lagos within the jurisdiction of this Honourable Court, dishonestly converted for the use of Omede Shedu Silas the sum of N17, 000, 000.00 (Seventeen Million, One Hundred Thousand Naira) only property of Access Bank Plc." The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charge preferred against him. In view of his plea, the prosecution counsel, Nnemeka Omewa, urged the court to allow his trial begin immediately and, remand the defendant in prison custody pending the determination of the charges levelled against him. However, counsel to the defendant, John Dong, informed the court of a pending application for bail on behalf of his client. He, therefore, prayed the court to grant the defendant bail. Consequently, Justice Williams granted the defendant bail in the sum of N5million with two sureties in like sum. One of the sureties must be a relation to the defendant and must own a landed property within the jurisdiction of the court. Thereafter, Justice Williams asked the prosecution counsel to call his witness in the matter. Led by Omewa, the first prosecution witness, PW1, Chuks Igboerika, a manager with Access Bank Plc, revealed to the court how the defendant had approached the bank sometime in March, 2017 for the issuance of a POS terminal. PW1 said the defendant had requested that the POS machine should be enabled in such a way that it would accept international cards, which he was eventually granted. The witness further told the court that the defendant started receiving huge inflows into his account through his international cards on July 30, 2017. He also said that the defendant consistently received money from July, 2017 to September 18, 2017 to the tune of N1.2billion. "When we discovered how money was being credited into Ifeanyi's account with Access Bank, he was engaged by the Relationship Team Unit of Access Bank to know the nature of the work he did that could have warranted the large sums of money that he had in his account. He told the team that he deals in 'Precious Stone', in addition to dealing in automobile parts. He also said that his customers were foreigners." "As the money came into his account, he transferred some into different bank accounts. He has so far transferred N508million to other banks, leaving a credit of about N677million in the account with Access Bank", the witness said. In his further evidence, PW1 also told the court that Access Bank received a mail from Interswitch in which it made declaration of fraud in the transactions of POS belonging to the defendant and the fact that there was no authorization for the transactions from the legitimate owners of the money involved. Investigations, however, revealed that the defendant carried out the transactions with the VISA International Card. Also, investigation revealed that when the bank asked the defendant to produce the POS machine issued to him, he said it was not with him. It was also revealed that when Access Bank asked Interswitch to produce 'chargebacks'-complaints from the persons who lost money so as to declare the transactions fraudulent, it could not produce any. Giving further testimony, the witness told the court that "the loophole was discovered by the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, after Access Bank reported the transactions. "It was revealed that Interswitch was hoarding the debits entries in its system records without passing the entries to the appropriate channels, which were the real card holders who have allegedly parted with their money. "An international POS transaction must go through Interswitch, then to the card issuing company which, in this case, is VISA Card. Then, the transaction must reflect to the card holder and go back through the same channel to the bank before a transaction can be confirmed approved. "And if a transaction was declined or not approved, it goes through the same channel. But in this case, it was discovered by CBN that the transactions done by the defendant started and ended between the defendant and Interswitch." The witness told the court that all the authorized companies; VISA Card, Unified Payment System, Interswitch, CBN, and Access bank involved in an international POS transaction were invited to review the fraud independently. "They all came to the verdict that the fraudulent transactions done by the defendant were debited from Access Bank authorized by Interswitch." In view of this, the prosecution counsel, Omewa, sought to tender the petition written to EFCC against the defendant and the defendant's statement of account. Both documents were admitted in evidence as exhibits by the court. During cross-examination by the defence counsel, the witness told the court that it was at the point of interrogation that the defendant told the bank what he does for a living. But the defence counsel pointed out that it was wrong of a financial institution to have failed to do that from the outset. The case was adjourned to April 23 and 27, 2018 for continuation of trial. culled from Olu famous Mr Olumide's Blog |
