Dangote Budgets N200b to Establish New Private University in Abuja

Posted: 24 Aug 2017 04:21 AM PDT

President and founder of Dangote Foundation, Aliko Dangote, has set aside N200 billion to establish a world-class university in Abuja.

Already, the proposal has been delivered to the National Universities Commission, NUC.

A former Executive Secretary of the NUC, Julius Okojie, who is the chairman of the technical team for the establishment of the university, said the foundation intends to drive technology and research in stimulating economic growth.

Okojie, who led his team to the current Executive Secretary of the commission, Abubakar Rasheed, said the proposed university is meant to be technology-driven and asked for the cooperation and support of the NUC towards the realisation of the goal.

According to a National Open University of Nigeria, NOUN, publication, the team, accompanied by the Chief Executive Officer, CEO of the foundation, Zouera Yousouffou, disclosed that Mr. Dangote's desire was to float a unique university of technology with all the necessary infrastructure and best faculty members from across the globe.

Mr. Rasheed, who applauded the bold step, promised to offer all the needed assistance for the success of the project.

He, however, advised the team to reconsider its plan of establishing a university of technology to 'a conventional university running all programmes but with specialty in the area of technology'.

The executive secretary, who underscored the advantages of the conventional university over the special one, said with the countless impacts on society by the business mogul, the project would be a success.

He asked the team to consult widely and look at the universities in Nigeria and abroad with a view to creating a unique university that would be different in terms of quality in all its operations.

Lagos Computer Village Adds N1.5b To The Economy Daily

Posted: 24 Aug 2017 03:51 AM PDT

Nigeria's Computer Village, adjudged the largest Information and Communications Technology (ICT) accessory market in Africa, contributes about N1.5b to the country's economy daily.

Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) executive vice chairman, Prof. Umaru Danbatta, gave the figure, while being hosted by the Computer and Allied Products Dealers Association of Nigeria (CAPDAN), the leadership of the market in Lagos.

Danbatta, who said the contributions of the market to the economy since the telecoms revolution began some 16 years back, was now around $32 billion, informed that the figures were provided by the leadership of CAPDAN during an earlier indoor-meeting in May with the NCC in Abuja.

According to Danbatta, there are about 3000 ICT Small and Medium scale Enterprises (SMEs) doing stuffs in the market, "as such the Computer Village market needs greater support to be able to contribute more to the economy."

While announcing the readiness of the Commission to work with CAPDAN on any front that will promote economic development, the NCC chief informed that it would sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the association.

Danbatta urged the association to address issues of phone and other devices cloning; substandard products, stressing that many mobile devices sold in the market are not type-approved by the NCC.

According to him, these unregistered mobile devices are not safe and negatively affects the quality of service rendered by mobile network operators in the country, stressing that NCC has huge responsibility to protect Nigerians. "We are calling on the CAPDAN to please support us to rid the market of unwanted elements peddling fake and substandard products."

Nigerian Lady Tricked Into Prostitution Abroad By Boyfriend

Posted: 24 Aug 2017 03:51 AM PDT

National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons has arrested one Ozigi Abdulkarim for allegedly luring his 19-year-old girlfriend into prostitution in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates.

NAPTIP said in a statement by its Head, Press and Public Relations, Josiah Emerole, that the victim was recruited from Gwarimpa, Abuja, by Abdulkarim and two others – Ngozi Ani and Princewill James – for onward transfer to an alleged trafficking kingpin, Rita Ani, in the UAE.

According to the agency, the suspects prepared her travel documents, took her to Ogbomoso, Oyo State, where an oath was administered on her before the journey.

It said two other suspects – Benson Emmanuel and Philip Joshua – were associates of the other four and played one role or the other in the movement of the victim.

It was learnt that when the victim arrived in Abu Dhabi, she was forced into prostitution for four years by Rita under excruciating conditions, including "flogging and insertion of hot boiling ring into her private parts whenever she did not make enough money a day."

The suspects, it was learnt, were arrested by operatives of NAPTIP in two operations in Gwarimpa, Abuja; and Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.

It was learnt that Rita, the prime suspect, who recently returned home to perform her traditional marriage rites preparatory to moving to the United Kingdom with her fiancé, was arrested in Ibadan by the newly established NAPTIP-Rapid Response Squad.

The statement added, "NAPTIP has arrested six persons, including a 25-year-old Abu Dhabi based Rita Ani, for the trafficking of girls from Nigeria to the United Arab Emirates to engage in forced prostitution.

"Rita belongs to a network of Nigerian traffickers based in Abu Dhabi who engaged Nigerian girls in international prostitution in that country.

"The other five are Rita's elder sister, Ngozi Ani (aka Princess), Ozigi Abdulkarim, Princewill James, Benson Emmanuel and Philip Joshua (aka OJ).

"While investigations are ongoing, the suspects have made very useful statements concerning the case. Chinyere also confessed to having more girls working for her in the UAE. They will soon be charged."

DG of NAPTIP, Julie Okah-Donli, commended the operatives for smashing the network, adding that the agency would smoke out human traffickers to face justice no matter their hideouts.

Buhari Met With My Father, He Did Not Lie – Ojukwu's Son

Late Chukwuemeka Ojukwu's first son, Emeka Ojukwu Jr. has condemned the statement credited to him of refuting the remarks of President Muhammadu Buhari, concerning Buhari's relationship and discussions with his late father.

He denied granting any media interview or posting any massage on social media that Buhari lied with regards to his discussions with his late father.

The social media was awash with reports that Ojukwu Jr. replied Buhari's statements as untrue which members of IPOB described as lies, demanding proof of the meeting with the late Ikemba of Nnewi with President Buhari.

But in a statement issued on Wednesday in Awka, Ojukwu Jr. noted that his late father actually held the said meeting with Buhari before his demise, adding that all that Buhari said in his nationwide broadcast were true.

He said those using his name to paint President Buhari as "a liar" that such malicious and damaging publications would not be taken lightly should it be repeated.

Photos: 72yrs old UK Grandma cries as her Young Nigerian Husband is denied visa

Posted: 24 Aug 2017 03:21 AM PDT

72 year old grandmother of six children, Angela and her 27 year old Nigerian husband are in tears and pains as her Nigerian husband CJ, has his visa rejected for the second time despite spending her £20,000 (9.6millllion naira) life savings trying to get him to the UK.
CJ Nwachukwu is the third husband of Angela Nwachukwu who is a retired pensioner and he is 45 years her junior.

They wedded just three months after they met on social media.

But Angela insists CJ is her soulmate and since they married she has spent £20,000 (over N9 million) visiting him and trying to get him into the UK.

The grandma of six was devastated when CJ was denied a visa but says their marriage is solid despite the 4,000 miles between them.

Angela, a retired taxi driver from Dorchester, Dorset, says of their love:
"CJ is the most caring man any woman could want to be with. "He makes me feel like the most beautiful woman in the world. I know in my heart we belong together and we won't stop fighting until we can be together as husband and wife. We won't let this break us.

"After the wedding, I found it hard leaving CJ. I knew I'd see him again soon but my family visa application was rejected. "I was so determined to get him a visa I hired lawyers to fight for us. I've since visited him twice. "We've spent a combined £20,000 trying to see each other. I've used my savings and he has gradually paid me back half."

Angela says: "After my relationship ended, I felt lonely. We had become more like friends than partners so we had decided to split. After being single for six months, I saw a gorgeous young man had sent me a friend request on Facebook.

"I did wonder why he had added me but I accepted and he sent me a message telling me how lovely my profile photo was. "He was so handsome, with big, brown eyes and a body to match. I didn't see the harm in striking up a conversation with him.

"We chatted for hours about our families and hobbies. It was like we'd known each other for years. Before I knew it, we were messaging daily. "The only problem was he was 45 years younger and lived 4,000 miles away in Nigeria." "He was six years younger than my oldest grandchild. But I couldn't help falling for him.

"When I first told my son Malcolm about CJ, he was worried it might be a scam, so he checked him out online. After seeing how squeaky-clean his social media was, he felt he was genuine. They could all see how happy I was.

"We started chatting on Skype and I'd get butterflies when I saw his face on the computer. After a few weeks, CJ told me he had feelings for me. I was so happy."

Just a month after they started messaging in February 2015, Angela's long-distance lover popped the question over Skype: "would you marry me?"
Since marrying, Angela has visited her husband in Nigeria twice, once in March 2016 for three weeks and once in January 2017 for three weeks.

The couple's last hope is that he will be allowed to come next year on a student visa to study. She still hopes to be permanently united with him.

Police Releases Corp Member Who Stabbed Cab Driver | Mr Olumide's Blog

Posted: 24 Aug 2017 03:04 AM PDT

A 52-year old taxi driver, John Ikubor, has recounted how he was stabbed on the shoulder by a suspected corps member in the Okota area of Lagos State.

Speaking on the issue, the Edo indigene said:
"The corps member came to my park around 7am on May 17 and said he was going to Okota. He agreed to pay N3,000 for the fare. He had a bag, which he put into the car.
"Throughout the journey, we never argued. I remember that he said he wanted to pick something along the way and when we got to the place, he came down from the car and called a man on the phone. He came back into the car and said the person was not around.
"We later arrived at his destination on Greenfield Estate around 8am. When we got to the place, he asked me to park in the front of a two storeyed-building. He went in and came back to say the person he was going to see was not around. He apologised and said I should turn back the car. He told me that I should not worry because he had my money on him.
"I had driven about 30 metres away from the place when he asked me to park the car. Immediately I did, he grabbed my neck and hacked me with a dagger on the shoulder. He brought out the dagger from his bag. I was alarmed and asked what I did wrong. The dagger got stuck in my shoulder and he forcefully pulled it out. My shoulder bone fell into the car."
The victim said the corps member used his khaki uniform to hold him, while he also struggled with him.

He said he later raised the alarm, adding that the suspect opened the back door of the cab and fled.

Some motorcycle riders in the area were said to have chased him as he scaled a fence back into the estate.

The estate guards reportedly questioned him for jumping the face and he lied that the motorcycle riders were after his life.

"The okada riders met the security guards and explained everything that happened to them. They brought the guards to where I was bleeding. The guards said they allowed him to go because they knew his house. I later called my fellow cab drivers, who arrived shortly after.
"My people from the park and the security guards went to the corps member's house and saw he had changed his bloodstained clothes. They took him to the Okota Police Station. The police issued me a report to enable me to get treatment," he added.

PUNCH Metro learnt that doctors at the Isolo General Hospital refused to attend to the victim after he could not raise a deposit of N35,000.

He was later taken to an Ijaw bone setter's house in Alapere, Ketu.

The bone setter, who demanded N50,000 for the treatment, reportedly put the bone back after the victim's colleagues deposited N20,000.

Ikubor said when he could not raise the balance of N30,000, the man refused to continue with the treatment.

"I went back to the police station to see if I could get the suspect's family to at least foot my medical bill.
"To my surprise, a policeman told me the Divisional Police Officer had been looking for me and that he was about to release the suspect. I went to check the boy and saw that he was just the same way I left him. He had not been interrogated or ruffled.
"The police said nobody came to check or identify him. When I saw the way the matter was going, I knew the police had been compromised. I decided to give up on the case instead of stressing myself when my health was already deteriorating.
"Within a week that the boy was arrested, he was released and some of the guards at the estate called my colleagues at the park that the boy was back in the community," he added.
The victim said after enduring excruciatng pain for about three months, he relocated to his hometown in Edo State for further treatment.

"The police really disappointed me. I believe the people in that division know the suspect. I need N70,000 for my treatment to continue. I don't have anything. The cab in question does not even belong to me. It belongs to the chairman of the park and I took it out that day hoping to make at least N500 or N1,000 to feed my family," he said.

Punch Metro spoke with Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Olarinde Famous-Cole, who asked outhat they speak with the DPO, Yusuf Ajape.

Ajape said he was not aware of the case.
"It is not posible to just release a suspect that way. Please tell the man to see me.
"Also, the incident happened since May and he is just talking about it now. We will, however, need to review the case,"he said.

Fayose To Buhari: You Are Sick & Tired, Go Home & Rest

Posted: 24 Aug 2017 02:51 AM PDT

Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, has said he stands by all he said about President Muhammadu Buhari on his ill health and therefore has no apology to make to anyone about it.

Fayose, who's Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party's Governors Forum therefore advised the President "to resign so as to look after his health because he is sick and tired."

Fayose gave his stand on Wednesday during a meeting with political office holders at Government's House in Ado Ekiti.

He said, "If not for our efforts, Buhari wouldn't have returned now. Buhari is sick and tired and even his physical appearance portrays this and he needs to go home and rest.

"Today, they have cancelled the Federal Executive Council meeting. You cannot hide the truth forever, it will reveal itself someday. You cannot continue to deceive Nigerians.

"Every word that has come out of my mouth, I have no apology for them. President Buhari was indeed in coma and one of those who visited him said his recovery is a miracle. That shows that he was indeed very sick. Let Buhari go back to Daura and rest, don't send him to early grave."

Fayose, however, denied reports on the social media that he vowed to commit suicide if the President came back alive from his medical vacation to the United Kingdom.

He attributed the rumour to the work of miscreants spreading misleading reports about him.

"How can I commit suicide because of an old man? Such are from miscreants on the social media. Let me tell you expressly, why would I commit suicide? I cannot commit suicide because of my mother. Even if they are burying my mother now, I will cleverly stay away from the grave so that I won't fall into it. I can't commit suicide because of Buhari. I never said that and will never make such statement."

Fayose added that pressure from him and the civil society groups including the 'Resume or Resign Movement,' was responsible for the "forced return of the President to Nigeria."

He continued, "I don't want to talk about 2019 but I want to tell you that Nigeria needs a president that is agile and strong. The job is too much for an individual that does not have what it takes.

"We wish him well and we want him to recover but the President should throw in the towel, resign and go home.

"They said he would come back and resume in his office, he resumed in his office, they said rats have taken over his office. Now, they said he is working from home; tomorrow, they would say he is coming from the bedroom. All these stories are ending up in a make-believe."

Oba of Benin Reacts to Humiliation of Dr. Ogiugo... "he was carrying abominable objects"

Posted: 24 Aug 2017 02:26 AM PDT

The Oba of Benin, Oba Ewuare II, has denied ordering the humiliation and banishing of one of his chiefs from the kingdom.

Many have reacted to photos showing chiefs forcing a man without shirt identified as Dr. Ogiugo, said to be one of the chiefs, out of the palace for allegedly disrespecting the Oba.

Now the Oba has ordered an investigation into the alleged manhandling of the elderly man.

In a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Desmond Agbama, the Oba dismissed the claim that the man was a Benin chief. He also said that though the elderly man was found with "abominable objects," he (Oba) never ordered him to be manhandled. The statement reads:

"For the avoidance of doubt, the man in question is not a chief in Benin Kingdom as has been ascribed to him.
"The man came to the palace in the company of those who had issues to resolve at the palace but he violated the norms of the Benin custom and tradition and was found carrying on his person abominable objects forbidden by Benin custom and tradition," the statement read in part.
"At no time did the Oba order the man to be manhandled.
"The persons who escorted the man out of the palace may have over-reached themselves in their efforts to protect the tradition and culture of the Benin people and the sanctity of the palace.

However, the Oba of Benin has ordered a full investigation into the incident."‎

Inspector kills police superintendent over money before committing suicide | Mr Olumide's Blog

A policeman, Abraham Arowogun, has committed suicide.

Arowogun, who was attached to the Kajola Police Station, Kajola town, in the Odigbo Local Government Area of Ondo State, committed suicide by jumping into a deep well in the station.
According to a police source who spoke with newsmen, the deceased inspector had committed murder before taking his own life. Arowogun reportedly killed a Divisional Crime Office, SP Timothy Aruehi, after they had a disagreement over money.

"Arowogun was investigating a case and the DCO discovered that a sum of N150,000 was involved. He further discovered that he (Arowogun) had actually converted the money to private use.
"The DCO called and querried him for the action.
"In the course of interrogating him, he stormed out angrily. He returned with a gun which he used to shoot Aruehi dead."

The source added that after killing the DCO, confusion settled on the station as many ran away.

"After killing the DCO, he knew that what he did was unprofessional and unpardonable in the police force. He just left the scene and jumped into the well at the back of the station."
The state Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Femi Joseph, confirmed the incident, adding that investigation had commenced.

"It was an unfortunate incident; but we have begun investigation. The command is very saddened and our hearts are heavy. We are doing everything possible to dig further into the matter and talk to our officers and men to avert a recurrence," the PPRO said.

5 Things Sure A Wife Needs From Her Husband

Posted: 24 Aug 2017 01:51 AM PDT

I just finished a four day Men's Intensive for men who have admitted to being emotionally abusive with their wives. Most came reluctantly; some came feeling outright resentment.

"It's a 50/50 problem," one man said sharply.

"Sure, we have our work to do," another began, "but they have their work to do as well."

"My wife cuts me no slack," yet another said. "I am supposed to do everything she says and she is hardly listening to me."

After a moment of silence, a fourth man spoke softly...

"I don't agree. I've found that if I submit to her need, she will submit to my lead. She isn't going to trust a word I say if I'm still losing my temper, blaming her, and resisting everything she says. She can't trust me. I'm betting you guys are all in a similar boat. We've lost her trust and have to earn it back."

The room became quiet as they listened to this man. He continued:
"I haven't protected her heart. When I protect her heart and really listen to what she desperately wants me to hear, when she feels safe, she will follow my lead."

There are many moments in counseling when I learn more from those I'm counseling than my schooling ever taught me. This man's words echoed truth. They also echoed Scripture:

"Treat your wife with understanding as you live with her. She may be weaker than you are, but she is your equal partner in God's gift of new life. Treat her as you should so your prayers will not be hindered." (1 Peter 3:7)

Of course, women are not going to follow the lead of a man who clearly is not protecting her heart. Certainly, women will not trust a man who seeks to win every argument, dominate the choices in their marriage, and manipulate her. She cannot settle into a trusting, confident place when she is on guard and frightened. This only makes sense.

"So, do we have to be perfect?" one man asked sarcastically.

"No," I said. "But you do have to show her, consistently, you will keep her safe from harm. Remember, consistency convinces more than any words."

I paused.

"Also remember men, that you are here to work on you. You are here to become the man God wants you to be. You are to love her sacrificially, not keeping score regarding what she is doing. This is an incredible opportunity for you to critically look at yourself, let go of denial, and delve deeply into your emotional issues. I agree with what has been said, that if you submit fully to her need, tending to her heart, she is more likely to follow your lead. But, you all have a ways to go before that can happen."

"Still doesn't seem fair," another man said.

"Actually," I said, "it is fair, because remember, you're here because of years of how you've treated her. You're here because you should have been here a long time ago. She has her work to do and she's been doing it. Now it's your turn."

Let's consider some additional steps on how submitting to her needs helps her follow your lead:

First, you should submit to her need.
Submitting to her need means men must understand what she needs, accepting them as legitimate needs to be respected. You stop resisting them, rebelling against them, and pushing through her boundaries about them. You become a "secondary protector" of her needs.

Second, you should create a safe place for her.
Women need safety. They are desperate to have their physical, spiritual and emotional needs protected. They cannot grow, feel healthy and alive, unless they feel safe. They need to be safe from chaos, safe from criticism, and safe from emotional abuse.

Third, you should protect her from harm.
Women need to be assured that all harm has stopped. They need to know their thoughts, feelings and values will be protected from any harm. They need to know their mate has their back and will speak life into them. They need to know they will never be spoken about negatively to others.

Fourth, you should guard your expectations.
Women need their mate to guard their expectations. If you don't guard your expectations, you won't be able to manage your frustration. You will be manipulative, expecting a payoff for positive actions. If they sense they must act a certain way, they will walk on pins and needles around you.

Finally, love her.
It has been said that love means extending yourself for the welfare of another. Certainly, 1 Corinthians 13 has much to say about how love is to be played out in marriage — where you are to not be self-seeking, but rather seeking to meet her needs. If you meet her needs, she will ultimately, in time, likely follow your lead.
