Lucky Man Marries Lady 10 Years After She Stopped Him From Committing Suicide Posted: 29 Aug 2017 04:17 AM PDT A lucky man, Kevin Walsh who was seconds away from taking his own was interrupted by a woman who became his wife 10 years later. Blake Walsh, put a call through to Kevin at the right moment after a long break in communication and it saved his life. "I was probably somewhere between 5 to 10 seconds away from taking my own life," Walsh, of Indianapolis, Ind., told Inside Edition. "Nobody but her could have spoken a word of reason to me." Kevin, 28, and his bride Blake Walsh, 28, will soon be celebrating their one year anniversary — 10 years after he received that fateful phone call that saved his life and 15 years after they first met in camp. The happy couple met for the first time at Bair Lake Bible Camp in Michigan, when they were 13 years old. They were both at the archery station when Blake approached Kevin and said, "Black is a good color on you." "I was like, 'At least she's talking to me; she's the prettiest girl I had ever seen,'" Kevin said. The pair stayed friends throughout camp and after the summer, they kept in touch once in a while through AOL Instant Messenger until they met again the following summer at the same camp. After that summer, they exchanged phone numbers and texted once in a while but eventually lost touch as they outgrew the camp. Toward the end of high school, Kevin recalled falling into depression and becoming suicidal. He said he contemplated ending his life for a month before he wrote a note and decided to slit his wrists. Moments before he would take his own life, Kevin said he felt his phone vibrate in his pocket. "I was basically staring down the barrel of my own mortality," Kevin said, but he answered the phone anyway. "It was her. We hadn't talked in a year and the one person I believed I would have opened up to called at that exact moment I had let everything go and was at peak vulnerability." When she asked what he was doing, Kevin admitted he was about to take his own life. "Literally, all she said in that moment was, 'What? Don't do that,'" Kevin recalled. But Blake remembers it differently. She recalled being on a school trip when she received a call from Kevin. "I think it's a true example of a force in the universe intervening and connecting us," Blake said. "I get goosebumps every single time I talk about it." They got to chatting and catching up until Blake said she had to go back to her group and had Kevin promise he would call her back tomorrow. "That kind of hit me weird because I wasn't expecting to be around tomorrow," Kevin said. When he decided he wouldn't kill himself, Kevin recalled writing down his thoughts in a journal, some of which thanked Blake for reappearing into his life at the right moment. "Over the years, [the journal] grew a couple words at a time," he said. "Eventually I had a pretty substantial amount of information I wanted to convey and then I realized, 'Holy crap, I think this is a proposal.'" After the life-saving phone call, Kevin and Blake stayed in touch and routinely visited one another despite living in different cities. In 2015, Blake had tagged along on Kevin's work trip to Switzerland when he popped the question using the words he penned the night she saved his life. Five months later, they were married. "I love you," Kevin told Blake. "Also, thanks for saving my life." culled from Olu famous Mr Olumide's Blog |

Again? Man pardoned for life imprisonment arrested for theft Posted: 29 Aug 2017 03:47 AM PDT This is due to bad government and lack of focus of civil society to assist people who wasted years in prison, with no one to help them. When a man is released from prison after many years and he has no one to help him, no one to train him and rehabilitate him... he will likely return to crime. An ex-convict, Abdullahi Sadiq, has been arrested for alleged burglary and theft by the police. Sadiq, aka Baba Razor, was said to have been sentenced to death by a Katsina State High Court for a crime he committed at a plaza. The sentence was later commuted to life imprisonment and he was eventually granted pardon. It was learnt that the suspect was involved in recent burglaries in the GRA and Kiddies Roundabout areas of Katsina, where 169 crates of eggs and other items were carted away from a store. Spokesman for the state police command, DSP Gambo Isah, said the suspect was being investigated at the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department. He said after a month of regaining freedom, Sadiq was apprehended with a stolen motorcycle and sentenced to one month imprisonment. According to DSP Isah, after serving the sentence, Sadiq was involved in the recent burglaries, leading to his re-arrest. "The police have transferred the case to the SCIID for proper investigation and prosecution." culled from Olu famous Mr Olumide's Blog |

Woman Fakes Her Kidnap, Demands N3m from Her Church Members Posted: 29 Aug 2017 03:17 AM PDT The police in Akwa Ibom State have arrested a 32-year-old woman, Mrs. Victoria Ndu, for faking her own kidnap. Victoria, who claimed to have been kidnapped, was rescued in Awommama in Imo State on August 24 by men of the anti-kidnapping squad from Akwa Ibom. She was said to have been rearrested the same day after investigations revealed that Ndu actually planned her own kidnap in order to get money from her church members. Following investigation, police said she was found to have placed N3m as ransom for her release. It was gathered that her younger brother, Victor Akan, an artisan resident in Awommama in Imo State, was also arrested for allegedly conspiring with her to commit the crime. The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, DSP Chukwu Ikechukwu, said in Uyo on Monday that the suspects were rescued and arrested same day following interrogation by men of anti-kidnapping unit where Ndu confessed to masterminding the crime. He said, "Victoria's husband had, on August 16, reported to the Divisional Police Headquarters in Nsit Atai that his wife had been kidnapped. He told the police that his wife told him that she was going to the market that day. "But Nsit Atai lacked the jurisdiction to handle kidnap matters. The case was subsequently transferred to the State Criminal Intelligence and Investigation Department. "They traced the calls used in contacting the church members and demand for N3m ransom to Awommama in Imo State. That was how the men of the anti-kidnapping unit swung into action and tracked down the suspects and rescued them. "It was while Ndu was being interrogated at the anti- kidnapping unit that she confessed that she actually masterminded her own kidnap. That was how she and her brother were arrested. The brother was arrested because both of them conspired to fake the crime. "What you are seeing here today is to serve as a deterrent to people who may be planning to go into this kind of crime. Police in Akwa Ibom are doing everything possible to ensure that crime in the state is reduced to the barest minimum. "The Commissioner of Police, Mr. Zubairu Muazu, therefore appeals to members of the public to provide useful information that will help us to achieve that and serve them better." The suspects, in an interview, admitted to the crime even as both pleaded to be forgiven and attributed their action to lack of money to conduct burial ceremony of their late parents. Ndu, who lamented her suffering after 10 years of marriage without a child, said, "We are orphans from very poor background. I only did what I did to help my family bury our parents. "Our father died in 2008, but we did not conduct any burial ceremony for him. In April this year, our mother also died, but since then, she has not been buried because of no money. "We wanted to conduct burial for both of them." culled from Olu famous Mr Olumide's Blog |

Gambia beats Nigeria,Ghana in Jollof rice competition | Mr Olumide's Blog Posted: 29 Aug 2017 02:09 AM PDT Gambia has emerged the winner of the Jollof Rice Competition organised by the Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA) as part of activities marking the Jollof Festival at the weekend. The competition, which featured Ghana, Gambia, Nigeria and Senegal, formed part of the "See Ghana, Eat Ghana, Wear Ghana, and Feel Ghana" campaign being championed by the GTA, under the auspices of the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts to promote local tourism on a global scale. According to Ghanaian media,Gambia prepared the jollof rice without tomatoes but with mustard, fish and other ingredients, making their jollof yellowish-white as compared to Ghana, who used tilapia, tomatoes and other ingredients to make their jollof attractive and tasty, giving it a reddish colour. The Nigerian and Senegalese chefs used ingredients they believed could make their jollof super and delicious but, unfortunately, they could not win. The judges, who were drawn from Mexico and the Netherlands, said the judgment was based on criteria including presentation, aroma, and taste. Mr Jan van der Veer, the lead Judge, told the GNA that the Gambians had "a fine presentation and a better taste for their jollof as compared to that of Ghana, Nigeria and Senegal." culled from MPNB Mr Olumide's Blog |

Young mum raped, killed and eaten by cannibal ring in South Africa | Mr Olumide's Blog Posted: 29 Aug 2017 02:09 AM PDT The family of a mother who was raped, murdered and eaten by a suspected cannibal ring have spoken of their heartache. Zanele Hlatshwayo, 25, who has been missing since July, is believed to be a victim of a cannibalism ring that has so far led to the arrest of five men. Her decomposing body was found after a man who claimed to be a traditional healer handed himself over to police last week and confessed that he was tired of eating human flesh. Police officers had initially dismissed his statement, according to reports. It is only after he produced a bloodied hand and foot as proof that he was immediately arrested. He led them to his rented home, where police found eight human ears in a cooking pot. It is believed they were to be served to his customers, who were told they had magic properties and would convey money, power and protection. Several other body parts were found stuffed in a suitcase. The mother-of-one's sister, Nozipho Ntelele , told the BBC: "We can only imagine how she begged for her life, she died an extremely painful death.Five men have since been arrested. Police spokeswoman, Colonel Thembeka Mbhele, said the shocking crime unravelled on Friday night when the man allegedly confessed. She said: "When he was questioned, he produced part of a human leg and a hand.Police also found eight human ears in a cooking pot and other body parts belonging to his victims. A local politician, Mthembeni Majola, told the BBC that some residents had willingly eaten human flesh. 7 Ways To Fund Your Startup Idea As A Nigerian Posted: 29 Aug 2017 01:47 AM PDT A fantastic business remains an idea if pragmatic steps are not taken to bring it to fruition. A huge complaint, drawback or excuse many give is that there is no money to fund the startup or business idea. Unfortunately, many of these million naira ideas have died because of lack of funding. Jumia Travel agrees that funding is a major factor in business. However, it should not prevent you from going ahead. As a Nigerian, there are ways you can raise capital for your business. Read on to discover these ways. Savings Saving is one of the best ways to get money to start a business no matter the number of zeroes in front of your salary. If you have figured out the workability of your idea, you should save a certain percentage of your salary monthly. Sell some of your valuables You have to make the sacrifice if you really want to do business. Your valuables are important. But establishing something that will get you more of these luxuries in the future is the ultimate. So, you can sell your car, your iPhone and other valuables you think you can do without. Family and close relatives You can also seek support from your parents, brothers, sisters and close relatives. Before they release their money, make sure they believe in your idea. You don't want them to pour money into a basket. Your rich friends If you have friends who are wealthy, you can also sell your idea to them. They may otherwise not be interested in everything you have to say. However, as far as you bring returns on investment, they are willing to give you their money. Search for investors All the aforementioned are personal efforts. Now you have to widen your tentacles. You have to get the big money investors to buy into your business idea. This is where your business plan will come to your rescue. Send it out to possible investors. Not just anyone who may steal your idea. You can ask friends for contacts. Pitch your idea There are some many events where you can pitch your idea to skimming investors. If your idea is good, you are in luck. Remember in this case, others will have to be involved in the operations of your business. Apply for startup funds We are in the Internet age and there are thousands of startup funds out there for Nigerians and Africans. Search for these funds and apply. If your idea is selected, you will be invited for an accelerator program where you will be trained by experts and given cash rewards. But at least, you must have some structure in place for you to apply. culled from Olu famous Mr Olumide's Blog |
Posted: 29 Aug 2017 01:17 AM PDT Do you find yourself afraid love will never return to your marriage? Harsh, angry words can leave us longing and vulnerable. Unresolved marital issues often cause us to focus on our pain and the imperfections of our spouse. Panicked, we look for solutions to quiet the pain and Satan is ever ready to suggest someone else. The burden of what is missing in your marriage may be weighing heavy on you today. Instead of despairing, let your faith rise up. Placing your confidence in God comes with a remarkable promise that you will not lack any good thing (Psa 34:10). Each time you choose to rely on God, you open the door to receive from His unlimited resources. You may lack love in your marriage today, but God is offering you His perfect love. You may ache from a lack of faithfulness in your marriage, but God has always been and always will be faithful to you. The best thing that can come out of your difficult days of marriage is a bold assurance that God is everything you will ever need. The Bible is magnificently alive and holds the power to reveal, heal, and deliver husbands and wives who are thirsty for love. Let His promise from Isaiah 41:17 nourish your hope and strengthen you to withstand the temptation to look to a human to satisfy your dehydrated heart. "When the poor and needy search for water and there is none, and their tongues are parched from thirst, then I, the Lord, will answer them. I, the God of Israel, will never abandon them."Isaiah 41:17 In the Psalms we learn to pour out our desperation to God. David modeled for us the freedom to talk openly with God about heartbreaking situations. He also shows us how to declare our faith in God's promises in the midst of those hard days. The psalm-like prayer, declaration and personalization exercise below, an excerpt from Hope for Your Marriage: 31 War Room Prayers, will guide your conversation with God when you are longing for tenderness and acceptance. A Prayer of Hope for Your Marriage God, I never expected to feel this empty and desperate for something different. My soul is so connected to my spouse, but our minds and bodies are very disconnected. This war between us leaves me thirsty for love. With my own voice, I vowed to be faithful in every way. How can I resist this unrelenting desire to connect with love when none is evident within our marriage? My heart cries out for affection. My soul tells me I deserve better than this. My mind suggests that I should find someone who does love me. This temptation to pursue another is fierce. Here is my heart, Lord. I'm in great need of Your perfect love. Help me believe that You will supply all of my needs, even this one. I reach for You to satisfy my soul. (Philippians 4:19,Psa 143:6-7) I choose to honor and cooperate with the righteousness of Jesus by keeping our marriage bed pure. By the power of Your Holy Spirit, I will deny myself what the world offers, so I can receive all that You have to give us. Please help my husband do the same. (Hebrew 13:4, Titus 2:12,Psa 5:12) You are the river of living waters. My soul is refreshed by You and the good gifts You give. I will wait in the shelter of Your wing for love to overflow between us. (John 7:38, James 1:17, Psa 91:4, Philippians 1:9) Declaration of Faith God meets my needs with His love. He empowers me to wait for love to return to our marriage. Make it Personal Search the Bible for evidence that God can satisfy your need for love. Start with Psa 103:5and Ephesians 3:18-19. Write a prayer to God expressing your need for love and inviting Him to meet it. [written by Jennifer O. White] culled from Olu famous Mr Olumide's Blog |
10 Things Young Men Should Strive To Achieve By Age 30 Posted: 29 Aug 2017 12:52 AM PDT It's true that success is not a day's work and Rome was not built in a day but everyone is expected to have attained a level of balance by 10 years, 20 years and even by 40 years. We take a look at 10 things every Nigerian guy should strive to achieved on or before 30... 1. Be Matured - Maturity is not an age thing, but if by 30 years, a guy isn't matured; then he's on his way to multiple failures on all front. 2. Be in a serious relationship - If not married, then he should be in a serious relationship and getting ready to settle down soon. 3. Be Educated (formal or informal) - He should have attained his first degree or should have a qualification in his chosen field. 4. Have a Home of his own (rented, brought or built) - We don't expect that by 30, any guy should be living with his parents and feeding on their pot, he can, however, live in a property built by his father/mother if he has a flat owned by himself alone. 5. Have a paying job or business - He should either have a good paying job, even when it's below what he thinks he deserves or he should be in business, building a life. 6. Be responsible - He should be responsible and live a responsible lifestyle. 7. Be Independent - He should take his decisions (with or without advice). He should be his own oga in that department. 8. Have a set goal - He should by this age, have a set and defined goal, a picture of where he wants to be in the nearest future. 9. Learn to Drive a car - Even if he doesn't own a car, every 30 years old should have attained training in driving to a large extent - an opportunity could open up or an emergency that would require him driving a car 10. Have a saving - He should have a saving plan, for the future, his family and a retirement plan. Start planning today, every day counts - and if already you're above 30 years and yet to achieve some of the things highlighted above, start now to aim and work towards achieving them. What To Do As A Christian When Someone Hurts You Posted: 29 Aug 2017 12:17 AM PDT Today is my last day at a job I've been at for six years. I never expected resigning from a job would be so tough on my heart. I anticipated my staff to be upset. I knew I'd feel sad to leave. In the midst of all this there were moments of rejoicing about the future job I've chosen. My new job moves me into the realm of non-profit marketing and to a rental home in Italy for a large portion of next year. It's a new start for my husband and I after two long years of blood tests and chemo and doctors. Yet, in all the excitement it's the mean words that have stayed with me. I didn't expect to hear nasty things spoken about me. Whispers of untruths that even though I know are not true, hurt so badly I found my husband in the middle of a workday just for a hug. It is the lies that have pierced my heart that have made me want to run away, and protect myself from hurt. I've been reading Mary DeMuth's new book The Wall Around Your Heart off and on since before I resigned. Right from the first time I read the title I knew this was a book for me. I battle to trust, and when I do, the first sign of hurt sees me retreat, protect myself and build a wall. A book that speaks about how to live with an open heart spoke to the person I want to be. Yesterday as I read her book a passage of scripture stood out for me from 2 Kings 19. It's a prayer that Hezekiah prays after he receives a horrible attack on his character and Israel prior to a possible invasion. Hezekiah doesn't speak badly about the person who attacked him. Or run to his friend and tell them how nasty that person is being. All things, I'm ashamed to say, I've done in this situation. Instead Hezekiah goes to God and prays. Oh, how he prays: God, God of Israel, seated in majesty on the cherubim-throne. You are the one and only God, sovereign over all kingdoms on earth, Maker of heaven, maker of earth. Open your ears, God, and listen, open your eyes and look. Look at this letter Sennacherib has sent, a brazen insult to the living God! …But now O God, our God, save us from raw Assyrian power; Make all the kingdoms on earth know that you are God, the one and only God. 2 Kings 15-17, 19 (MSG) His prayer is full of cues about how big God is in the situation. I love what Mary deMuth says about these verses, "Hezekiah remembered who God was and reminded himself of who he needed to be in the situation." I wonder if Hezekiah focuses so much on the glory of God in his prayer, because he needed the courage to believe that God could be trusted, not only to resolve the situation, but also heal his hurt heart. As I read this prayer I realised that I've failed to take my hurt heart to God. I've made the hurt bigger than God, and allowed fear and anger to shield my heart, instead of letting God fight for my heart. As I leave today I'm praying about the situation. I'm praying that my big God will fight for me. And I'm asking him to heal my hurting heart and help me to live without walls even as I learn that trusting God is the only way to learn to live with an open heart.
