Mass Housing Constructions Begin In 33 States

Posted: 25 Aug 2017 04:26 AM PDT

The Federal Government on Thursday announced that it had commenced the construction of mass housing projects in 33 states across the country. It also called for an upward review of up to 50 per cent as mobilisation funds for contractors, especially emerging contractors operating in the industry, in order to enable them deliver their projects satisfactorily.

Minister of Power, Works and Housing, Babatunde Fashola, who disclosed this at the sixth meeting of the National Council on Lands, Housing and Urban Development, told delegates at the event that with ongoing housing projects, the government had fulfilled the commitment it made at the 2016 council meeting by 90 per cent.

Commenting on the progress report on the National Housing Programme , which was discussed at last year's meeting, Fashola said, "At the time of the council meeting in August 2016, I reported that we were finalising designs to accommodate our cultural, climatic and other diversities.

"I had explained that when the designs were completed, we would commence construction to pilot the designs and test them for affordability and acceptability. I am pleased to report that construction has started in 33 states where land has been made available." He added, "This is in fulfilment of anothercommitment made at last year ' s council by at least 90 per cent."

The minister said he had personally visited project sites in Taraba, Gombe, Ekiti and Oyo states, adding that "what I saw demonstrates to me very clearly how impactful the National Housing Programme has been, even at the pilot and inception stage ."

At least 16 people drowned today after being trapped in a bus which plunged off a pier in southern Russia.
Some 24 have been rescued or swam ashore on the Black Sea, but there were fears that the vehicle was overloaded with oil construction workers and that the toll may rise.
There were unconfirmed claims that between 38 and 60 people were in the bus when it sank at a depth of around 35 ft.

A survivor has claimed that the bus was out of control before plunging into the ocean.
'When we drove down to the pier, something cracked,' he said. 'There was one crack and the bus suddenly accelerated.
'For some reason, it turned towards a pier that was under construction. The driver kept silent. When we were careering along the pier, we began to smash windows and doors to get out.'He told Daily Mail Australia .
Some people managed to escape before the runaway bus went off the edge of the pier, say eyewitnesses.

Some accounts say the breaks malfunctioned, and the driver sought and failed to use the gears to halt the bus.
'Sixteen people died, 24 were rescued, eight of them were hospitalised,' said an emergencies' spokesperson.

Plastic surgeons refuse to operate on woman who wants butt lift and rib removal | Mr Olumide's Blog

Plastic surgeons have refused to operate on a woman who is determined to transform herself into a sex doll.
Alicia Amira, 27, from Copenhagen, Denmark says she wants to look like a 'f*** doll' with the help of cosmetic procedures.
The model appeared on Botched on Thursday night to ask the show's doctors Terry Dubrow and Paul Nassif to fix her ruined breast implants.

According to Daily Mail, the doctors told her she would have to reduce her size 650CC boobs so they could be repaired but she refused to have a smaller bust.

Alicia then asked for a Brazilian butt lift and rib removal to give her a smaller waist, but, again, the doctors implored her to change her mind as these surgeries cold put her life at risk.

She has already the started the process of 'bimbofication' by having breast implants, Botox and fillers in her cheeks, nose and lips.

Alicia and boyfriend
But Alicia refused to go smaller - and then she revealed she's not even close to being finished yet.
She said:
'I want a Brazilian butt lift and rib removal as well to smallen the waist. I'd like an internal corset to always make the waistline slim and bigger boobs.
'At one point I even thought about sewing my fingers together because that would create a doll hand.'
The doctors looked horrified and told Alicia those procedures were all 'very dangerous to do' and she could end up putting her life at risk if she went ahead.
Dr Dubrow added:
'You're an intelligent girl, make good intelligent decisions.'
Undeterred, she said she was 'sad' the doctors had refused her requests but said she would get the procedures done elsewhere.
Alicia quit her job in PR to become one of the full-time 'living dolls', a group of plastic surgery addicts who drastically transform their looks so they can look like Barbie and Ken dolls.

Police Sergeant Dismiss, Docked Over Escape of Man Who Killed Girl for Rituals

Posted: 25 Aug 2017 03:31 AM PDT

Rivers Police Command has dismissed a police sergeant, Johnbosco Okoroeze, for allegedly aiding the escape of a suspected ritual killer, Ifeanyi Dike, from the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department, Port Harcourt.

Sergeant Johnbosco, who was also arraigned by the police before a chief magistrate's court on two counts bordering on obstruction of justice and conspiracy, has been remanded in custody for the alleged offences.

The Chief Magistrate, Sokari Andrew-Jaja, cautioned him as he cried uncontrollably inside the court before his case was mentioned.

The prime suspect, Dike, defiled, killed and removed the organs of one Miss Victory Nmezuwuba, before he was arrested and taken to the SCIID.

Sergeant Johnbosco, who was the Investigating Police Officer, had removed the suspect's handcuffs while he took his statements.

The victim's father, Dr Ernest Nmezuwuba, who was also in the charge room at the time, said he used candlelight while making his statements, adding that there was no power supply in the area.

The suspect was reported to have fled the SCIID under the cover of darkness and his whereabouts had remained unknown.

The state Commissioner of Police, Mr. Ahmed Zaki, had ordered the dismissal and arraignment of Sergeant Johnbosco for criminal conspiracy.

The accused, who was brought to the magistrate's court in handcuffs, cried profusely on the premises.

"What have I done to myself? What did I do? Call my wife for me," he said.

The charges read, "That you, Johnbosco Okoroeze, on August 19, 2017, at about 8.30pm at the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department, Port Harcourt, in the Port Harcourt Magisterial District, did assist one Ifeanyi Dike, who is to your knowledge guilty of the offence of murder of one Chikamso Nmezuwuba, aged eight years, for rituals, to escape when he was to be detained for prosecution, thereby committing an offence punishable under Section 322 of the Criminal Code Cap 37, Vol. II, Laws of Rivers State of Nigeria, 1999.

"That you, Johnbosco Okoroeze, on the same date, time and place in the aforesaid magisterial district, did conspire with a suspect, Ifeanyi Dike, and allowed him to escape from prosecution to prevent and defeat the course of justice, thereby committing an offence punishable under Section 126 (1) of the Criminal Code Cap 37, Vol. II, Laws of Rivers State of Nigeria 1999."

The chief magistrate observed that while the first charge could earn Sergeant Johnbosco a life sentence if found guilty, the second charge could earn the dismissed police sergeant a seven-year jail term if found guilty.

Andrew-Jaja, who immediately declined jurisdiction of the court to handle the matter, directed the court registrar to transfer the case file to the Directorate of Public Prosecutions for legal advice.

The chief magistrate then remanded the suspect in prison, just as he adjourned the matter till September 14, 2017 for adoption of written addresses.

Meanwhile, the state Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Nnamdi Omoni, said one of the sponsors of the prime suspect, Dike, had been arrested.

Lady killed on her Wedding Eve after ignoring Death Threats to cancel wedding

Posted: 25 Aug 2017 03:31 AM PDT

A bride has been murdered just few hours to her wedding day. Family sources claim that some weeks to her wedding, the 38-year-old bride-to be, Nompumelelo Ngubane, had received a message via WhatsApp asking her to either "cancel the wedding or die."

The South African lady's mother, Ntombifikile, also said someone once slipped a note under the late woman's door, containing the same death threat.

She reportedly ignored the messages and proceeded with her wedding that had been scheduled to take place on Saturday, August 19, 2017 at the Golden Horse Casino. However, on Friday evening, her body was found in a car at KwaPata area of Peietermaritzburg, South Africa, News24 claims.

Her family believes she had been strangled to death and police are investigating a case of murder.

As reported by many online media outlets, her family believes she had been strangled to death, as there was a belt around her neck, suggesting she had been strangled; while her face was allegedly covered with her head scarf. The front seat of her car was also reclined.

Said to be a mother of two, Nompumelelo, a nurse at Edendale Hospital, is believed to have left home on Friday morning to fix her hair at the salon and to also collect her wedding gown.

Her bereaved mother, Ntombifikile, reportedly said she had last spoken to her daughter at around 8.30 am on the Friday of her demise.

"She left home very early to go and do her hair and also fetch her wedding gown from the boutique in town. She told me she was not going to be gone for long," Ntombifikile is said to have informed a news outlet, The Witness newspaper said.

However, when Nompumelelo did not return home by 5pm that day, her family started getting concerned.

"We tried to reach her on her cell phone, but it was off," one of her brothers is reported to have said.
Plessislaer police station spokesperson, Capt. Musa Ntombela, who confirmed the incident said they are investigating a case of murder and that no arrests have been made yet.

Ntombifikile said they later learned that Nompumelelo did not reach the boutique.

Her handbag, wallet and cell phone were also missing. Her car was seen by locals on the side of the road from around 2pm that day, but they did not realise that a body was inside.

One of her relatives who lives in KwaPata said she learnt that Nompumelelo's car had been spotted in the area.

Most locals who had seen her car in the area thought Nompumelelo was there to visit the relation. Ntombifikile said after searching for her daughter for hours, the relation told her that her daughter's car was parked in KwaPata.

"We asked the relative to go to the car and see if she was there." The relative discovered her body.

"She saw her inside the car and thought she may have fallen asleep. She knocked on the window but there was no response. She then opened the door and shook her, but she did not respond."

Police and paramedics were called in, but they declared her dead at the scene.

"I feared for her life and I tried to get her to postpone the wedding, but she refused and assured me that nothing would happen," the mother added.

Man punches girlfriend in the face after she said NO to his romantic marriage proposal | Mr Olumide's Blog

Posted: 25 Aug 2017 03:19 AM PDT

A thug turned up at his girlfriend's work to pop the question - and punched her in the face when she said no.

Andrei Pavel left Andrea Nagy with "significant injuries" in the horror attack after splashing out on an engagement ring and a bunch of flowers.

Following his arrest Pavel, who has no previous convictions, told police officers he was upset by the rejection.

Now he has been banned from contacting his victim for a year after pleading guilty to assault by beating.

North Staffordshire Justice Centre heard Pavel and Nagy had been in an "intense" relationship for three months and had moved in together before hitting a rocky patch.

But Pavel, from Stoke-on-Trent, Staffs, was keen to get things back on track and turned up at Nagy's workplace on July 21 to propose.

Prosecutor Ruth Bentley said:
"She described the relationship as intense. She moved in with him after two months but the relationship broke down and they split up.
"Since that time he had been contacting her via texts. He did not want the relationship to end. He was trying to get it back on track, and even purchased a ring and asked her to marry him."She was handed a note at work, which said the defendant wanted to speak to her. She met the defendant who was waiting outside with a bunch of flowers."
The court heard Pavel proposed to Nagy but she said no.

Bentley added:
"He punched her to the face, knocking her to the floor for a matter of seconds. She was left with an injury to her face."

The court heard Nagy said she was scared of the defendant and described him as jealous and controlling.

Couple's only child, 2yrs old Boy, attached to Empty Oxygen Tank dies in Lagos

Posted: 25 Aug 2017 02:56 AM PDT

Parents of a two-year-old boy, Christopher Mike-Ozugha, say the carefree attitude of some medical workers at Ikorodu General Hospital, Lagos, allegedly led to the death of their only child.

The couple – Esther and Emmanuel Mike-Ozugha – said the child was taken to the hospital because he had difficulty in breathing.
They accused the hospital of placing him on oxygen for about 30 minutes, adding that the oxygen tank was empty.

They said it was late by the time the oversight was discovered, as their only son eventually died.

But the general hospital said the child had severe bronchopneumonia and malaria, which killed him.

The Punch learnt that Christopher's mother had returned from work last Wednesday and found the boy, who was left in the care of her younger sister, running temperature.

She said she gave him paracetamol syrup and he became fine.

"When I was in the office on Thursday, my sister called me that Christopher was running temperature again. I rushed back home and took him to a midwife in Irawo, Ikorodu. She checked his temperature and gave him anti-malaria drugs, but there was no improvement.

"On Friday, we took him to Olive Clime Hospital and a doctor at the private hospital ran a test on him. He gave us paracetamol, antibiotics, and anti-malaria drugs. The test came out on Saturday evening and my baby's temperature was still high. The doctor said he did not have bacteria or infection and said he would continue with the anti-malaria treatment.

"That Saturday night, I noticed my child was dizzy, but the doctor said it was due to some medications he took. He said he would be fine."

Esther explained that the doctor told her and her husband around 11pm that their son's breathing was abnormal and referred him to the Gbagada General Hospital.

She said they took the boy to the Ikorodu General Hospital because the former was far.

She said, "He could walk and talk at that time. We got to the general hospital around 1am. They started complaining that why did we go to a private hospital and come to them when things were getting out of hands?

"A doctor told one of the nurses to prepare oxygen for Christopher. The nurse said the oxygen tank they had was not working and that we should not disturb her.

"Later, another nurse came and I begged her. She followed me to the Accident and Emergency Ward, where we got an oxygen tank. After 30 minutes, the nurse came back to check and said there was no oxygen in the tank. She quickly connected him to the central oxygen.

"After some minutes, it started blinking and I rushed to call the first nurse. She said I should leave her alone. She told me to put it off and switch it on again. I did so and it started working again.

"After a while, my child started misbehaving. I ran back to her. She said I should leave her; she didn't follow me.

"Later, the second nurse said the degree of the oxygen was low. By that time, my baby was no longer responding. Something was coming out of his mouth. I was sent out of the ward because I was panicky."

The father, Emmanuel, who corroborated his wife's account, said their child died around 11am.

He said, "I am a Christian; I leave vengeance to God. Actually, it (the death) was due to the hospital's negligence. They brought an oxygen tank without oxygen and put the pipes in his nose without connecting the other ends to the oxygen tank. When I waited for the nurse to fix it and she didn't show up, I removed the pipes so that he could breathe normal air.

"To my greatest surprise, the doctor that came to examine him instead of fixing the fault, kicked the pipes away. He only touched the baby and left. A nurse said I was wasting the oxygen. She turned on the tank knob, but nothing came out. She said it was not working. She called a technician that brought it."

Emmanuel said the technician opened the tank and oxygen started escaping.

He explained that the technician called the nurses to control the flow without getting any response, adding that the man left in anger after regulating the flow to a certain degree.

"I put the pipes back into his nose. The nurse that was on night duty came and discovered that there was no oxygen in the tank. She then connected him to the central oxygen till daybreak.

"They took him to the emergency ward and he was to be placed on the central oxygen, which was not coming out. They had to call for help to get it fixed, and that lasted for about 10 minutes. Before I knew it, my son's chest had swollen. That was when I knew he was gone," he added.

A senior official at the hospital, who did not want his name in print, said the patient was brought in a bad condition.

He described the allegation that the oxygen tank was faulty and short of oxygen as false, adding that investigation had commenced on the alleged nonchalant attitude of the first nurse.

He said, "The boy was diagnosed with severe bronchopneumonia and severe malaria. He had high fever and difficulty in breathing and was vomiting. When a doctor examined him, he was drowsy in a semi-unconscious state and treatment was commenced.

"For four days, the parents were going from home to the hospital. The patient was referred on the 5th day when his condition had deteriorated to the Gbagada Hospital, but the parents decided to bring him here.

"Ikorodu General Hospital does not charge for oxygen and it is always available in the hospital. In fact, oxygen was supplied on Saturday, August 19, and the patient came in early Sunday morning. So, there couldn't be any issue of supply and it is not true that the oxygen tank was empty.

"We operate central oxygen that is available at every bed. In situations where beds or all the oxygen points have been occupied, we resort to oxygen concentrators, which are as good as the central oxygen."

The Olive Clime doctor, Dr. Olumide Sam-Ayodele, who spoke with Punch on the telephone, said his hospital had no fault.

He said, "I picked up the symptoms of bronchopneumonia at the point when the child could be saved. To clear the record, the child was conscious when they left and his temperature had come down.

"Between the time of the referral and the time they got to the general hospital, anything could have happened. I called a cab driver to carry them so that they got to where they were going on time. I referred them to the Gbagada General Hospital initially because I thought the security situation in Ikorodu might not make it easy for the driver to get there. The driver said he could go there and of course they can go to any general hospital with the referral."

Lagos State Commissioner for Health, Dr Jide Idris, in a reply to a text message sent to him, promised to investigate the case.

"I’m Scared"... says Woman Who Won Over $758m

Posted: 25 Aug 2017 02:56 AM PDT

A 53-year-old mother of two on Thursday came forward to claim the largest single jackpot win in US history — $758.7m — and promptly quit her job of 32 years at a hospital.

Mrs. Mavis Wanczyk said she played the lottery as a "pipe dream," never believing it would one day be possible for her to retire early from Mercy Medical Centre, where she has worked for decades.

On Thursday, that dream came true.

"I've called up and told them I will not be coming back," she said to laughter at a news conference hosted by the Massachusetts State Lottery.

"I'm going to go hide in my bed!" she added when asked how she planned to celebrate, wearing black-framed spectacles, a zip-up hooded black sweater over a grey lace top, necklace and shoulder-length thick auburn hair.

Wanczyk selected the winning numbers — including a blend of family birthdays — and bought the ticket from a convenience store in Chicopee, a small town 100 miles (160 kilometers) west of Boston, calling it "a chance I had to take."

"I was there just to buy it for luck," she explained, chewing gum and grinning. Accompanied to the news conference by her mother and two sisters, she was still dazed after her monumental win.

According to AFP, Powerball called Wednesday's draw "the highest jackpot won on a single ticket and the biggest lottery prize ever awarded to one single person."

She now has the choice of taking the jackpot as an annuity spread over 30 years or a one-off cash lump sum of $480.5 million, depending on state taxes.

"First thing, I just want to sit back and relax," Wanczyk said.

She said she found out she had won from a colleague when they were leaving work overnight and promptly went into shock.

"I couldn't drive anywhere, I couldn't do anything," she said. "So he followed me actually to make sure I was safely home."

"Now it's like, 'I am a winner, and I'm scared, but I'll be ok."

Wanczyk, who has a 31-year-old daughter and 26-year-old son, said she has previously been "OK" financially and had yet to work out how to spend her millions, other than paying off the car she bought last year.

She said she now wanted to be alone to "figure out what I want to do [with the money]."

Orphans get N10.3m for cows to celebrate Sallah | Mr Olumide's Blog

Posted: 25 Aug 2017 02:49 AM PDT

The Sokoto State Zakkat and Endowment Commission has distributed N10.3 million to 86 District Heads to buy cows for orphans during the Eid-el-kabir celebrations coming up next weekend.

Malam Lawal Maidoki, its Chairman, in a brief speech shortly before disbursing the money, stated that the gesture was part of government's effort to ease the suffering of the orphans and the needy.

Maidoki said that the financial constrains facing the nation had not stopped government from executing its good intentions toward a better life for the poor and vulnerable in the society.

He said that the money was routed through the traditional rulers because they were the closest avenue through which government could reach targeted persons like orphans and the physically challenged.

Maidoki said that government would soon construct Zakkat offices across all districts in the 23 local government areas, and urged the District Heads to support the commission's tree planting efforts to improve Sokoto's environment.

A month after news broke that Usher allegedly gave an unidentified Georgia woman the herpes virus,he's now fighting back.

The singer has responded to the $20 million lawsuit filed by a Georgia woman who claims he gave her genital herpes back in April.

In Usher's legal docs, obtained by TMZ, he notes her lawsuit says nothing about whether she had been tested prior to their alleged sexual encounter. He says, "A previous sexual partner very well may have already infected her."

And, Usher says, she could have contracted the STD after their alleged encounter.
And he also says she assumed the risk of getting herpes by having "casual, unprotected sexual intercourse and/or oral sex."

However,Usher did not attack the lawsuit by saying he couldn't have given her herpes.
His lawyer also says there's no cause for the woman to secretly file her lawsuit.
He's asking the judge to throw out her lawsuit.

Following her epic $758.7 million jackpot win, Powerball winner Mavis L. Wanczyk now has some extra manpower guarding her Massachusetts home .

Cops in Mavis' hometown of Chicopee tell TMZ they'll be making extra patrol rounds each shift to make sure no funny business goes down on the heels of her HUGE win.

They think Mavis is now a magnet for leeches, crooks and scammers who want a piece of the pie. Police are on the lookout for people casing her home, loitering on or around her property, or harassing her or her family.
Cops think the visibility of extra patrols may scare people with bad intentions away.
Mavis, a single 53-year-old mother of 2, won Powerball's largest ever solo payout on Wednesday night. She's expected to take home $336 million after taxes, according to lottery officials.

This graphic photo of a young girl who was severely brutalized by her aunt after she lost her mother, has emerged on social media, with many condemning the act.

A government official in South Africa, identified as Maluleke, shared a photo of the young girl who was subjected to horrific abuse by her aunt.

I wonder why some women find it easy to engage in domestic abuse against anyone under them.

The male official shared the photo on social media and wrote;
"This is the back of a child who stays with her Aunty [after] her mother passed away. Then a social worker is telling me she is busy with assessment before they can remove the child.

"She is between 9 to 11 years am told. What assessment? Must she die first?..."
