Buhari works from home as rodents took over his office during long absence-Presidency | Mr Olumide's Blog

Posted: 22 Aug 2017 04:29 AM PDT

President Muhammadu Buhari, who resumed duties Monday after a 103-day medical vacation abroad, will operate from his official residence until the completion of the renovation of his office, the Presidency said Monday.

The Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Mr. Shehu Garba, told THISDAY that the president's office needed renovation because of its devastation by rodents during the president's long period of absence.

"Following the three months period of disuse, rodents have caused a lot of damage to the furniture and the air conditioning units," he said, explaining that it was impossible for his boss to operate from the office in that condition.
Garba, however, said this would not affect the effectiveness of Buhari's work since the residence has an annex to the office, adding that the president had been carrying out his duties from home since he resumed.

Saying he could not tell when the renovation would be completed, the presidential spokesperson stated that the maintenance company that was seen at work Monday at the Presidential Villa by THISDAY had been asked to speed up its pace of work.

A Nigerian lady, Olivia Okibe, learnt a life's lesson the hard way after her marriage to her Malayasia-based ex-husband crashed. She took to social media to advise her fellow ladies to date a man before agreeing to become his wife.

Olivia shared photos from her introduction ceremony with the guy she never dated and wrote:

"And this was my Introduction on the 7th of January 2017. Yes you read right, it was only my Introduction (knocking on my head and fixing date) and nothing more.
It was a blast, fun but guess what? I was still a bitter woman down my heart, with all those smiles you saw me wearing on the face, I was still very weary and bitter because I knew I entered the wrong hand but I found out a bit late. But to God be the glory, it ended in praise.
Experience is the best teacher.
My advice to girls is to please date him at least for...a while...before you say yes to his marriage proposal.
I never dated him oooooo and I said yes !! Pity me but eventually , I learnt my bitter lesson. Case closed"

Husband Kills Wife In Benue... Wife Kills Husband In Lagos Over Infidelity

Posted: 22 Aug 2017 03:04 AM PDT

Tragedy struck in the Adekaa community, Gboko, Benue State, on Sunday, after a 33-year-old man, Joshua Terkaa-Uhir, allegedly stabbed his wife, Lucy, to death with an axe after accusing the mother of his two children of extramarital affairs.

In a similar incident, a woman, Folashade Idoko, stabbed her husband, Lawrence, to death with a knife after he allegedly received a telephone call from a suspected female lover at their home in Ayetoro, Oto-Awori area of Lagos.

In the first incident, Joshua and Lucy had been married for about six years and have two children. However, the union was reported to be fraught with disagreements over some petty issues which always resulted in fisticuffs.

According to Punch, matters took a turn for the worse on Sunday when the husband shut the door against Lucy and beat her up after a heated argument. He was alleged to have used an axe to stab her in the neck and immediately fled through the window.

A neighbour of the couple, Aga-Samuel Barti, said before the incident, Joshua had been accusing the wife of maintaining an extramarital affair, adding that it was the reason for their argument.

Meanwhile, in Lagos, Folashade stabbed her husband, Lawrence, to death around 11pm on Sunday. It was learnt that the couple, who had been married for four years, also have two kids.

It was gathered that Lawrence, an engineer working in Ogun State, returned home that day after a week-long official duty. The wife reportedly accused him of engaging in extra-marital affair and an argument ensued.

In a fit of anger, Folashade reportedly stabbed him to death with a kitchen knife. She was later arrested. A neighbour, Mrs. Blessing Olokpobri, said the wife, Folashade, was aggressive and violent, adding that people always tried to avoid having issues with her.

She said, "There was hardly a day they didn't fight if the husband was at home. There was a time she went to meet him at a beer parlour. She dragged and stripped him. There was even a time she sliced his ear lobes with a broken bottle and it had to be stitched."

We were celebrating an African icon-Kogi defends 'Buhari public holiday' | Mr Olumide's Blog

Posted: 22 Aug 2017 01:32 AM PDT

Following the criticism which trailed the public holiday declared by the Kogi state government over the return of President Muhammadu Buhari, the government has defended it's move.

The director general, media and publicity to the governor, Kingsley Fanwo, said  the public holiday was declared to celebrate an African icon.

"The public holiday was declared to celebrate an African icon, President Muhammadu Buhari, who went on a medical trip abroad and came back in good health.
"The holiday was to enable the people of Kogi State to celebrate the grace of God in bringing Mr. President back alive. It also afforded the people of the state the opportunity to pray and fast for the progress of Nigeria and for Mr. President to keep waxing stronger for the task ahead.
"It is unfortunate that those condemning it choose to take Panadol for our headache. They should join us to celebrate the Lion of Africa and stop politicising an act of patriotism on the part of the governor," he said."God forbids, if Mr. President had died, many states would have declared many days of mourning. But Kogi only declared one day to thank God for saving our President's life. Are some people angry that Mr. President is back, hale and hearty to continue to fight corruption?"

Funny Things Some Men Don't Like About Church

Posted: 22 Aug 2017 01:04 AM PDT

I know how you feel. There are certain things your husband hates about church and you aren't sure what to do about it. I know how you feel because my husband really didn't like church for a while, either. And I'm married to a pastor!

Twice over the past 25 years, my husband, Mr. H., stepped out of his role as a senior pastor to recoup from burnout and re-evaluate his heart for ministry. During that time, he not only examined why he does the things pastors do, but having had time on the other side of the platform, he saw the stage from where your husband sees it, and experienced some of the same things as your man.

In addition to being a "guy in the congregation," Mr. H. has also led several in-depth small groups for men in which they got real about what really bugged them about church...

I asked Mr. H. to lend some insight into "Things Your Husband Hates about Church." Coupled with my 30 years of experience discipling women who have told me what their husbands think about church, too, we came up with this list – at least through the eyes of a man.

1. Predictable Services
Many men thrive on spontaneity – or at least changing it up from time to time. So, a routine your husband can predict with his eyes closed doesn't help when it comes to sitting for an hour or more in church.

Said one man who was fairly new to church, "Three songs, announcements, offering, sermon, closing song. C'mon - add some variety to raise the expectation and anticipation level. I really don't mean to nod off during the riveting message, but there are some things that can be done to keep me better engaged. Surprise me (and please don't think I mean 'Entertain me')."

2. "Meet and Greet" Time
The typical church asks its congregation, men included, to "meet and greet" each other during the service. In every service. But this can feel awkward for men, whether they're first-timers or have been there for years.

The husband of a good friend told me: "After I've already been greeted by the wonderful person at the door who hands out the bulletins, please don't have a special time in the service to make me turn around and greet someone else. Let me be honest - I have friends. I know how to make friends. How about simply offering coffee and donuts before and after the service, sprinkle some of your smiling staff around, and let the meet and greet time happen more naturally?"

3. Dumbing Down Religious Language
My husband has a degree in theology and often, as he would sit in church, he'd hear the senior pastor explain simple terms, not just when it came to theology, but in practical life as well. In many churches there are CEOs of companies, attorneys, doctors, and other highly-educated, intelligent men who can grasp what a teaching pastor might think is too heady.

As one husband and professional educator said: "Some pastors get the idea that we don't know their theological terms and can't handle the heady stuff. Look, I'm educated and I'm a professional in my field, which means in the workplace I'm expected to know and understand some complicated terms. I'm pretty sure that in church, if the pastor explained it clearly enough, I can grasp the meanings of "sanctification," "justification," and "eschatology."

4. Failing to Challenge Him
A man needs to make sense of his work, his calling, and even his volunteer work in his kids' classrooms. So if a church is going to ask him to sacrifice his time and money, it must give him a compelling enough reason to do so – one that's so audacious, life-altering, and straight to the point that it makes him sit up and take serious notice. What a minute? Isn't that the gospel of Jesus?

If your husband is getting a nice little sermonette to make him feel good about coming and it's not really resonating, it's possible he's waiting to be challenged by the hard sayings of Jesus like "whoever of you does not forsake all that he has cannot be My disciple" (Luke 14:33). Now you've got his attention.

5. Overcommitting His Family
Chances are you are another family that is over-scheduled. Sadly, more families are finding it difficult to prioritize even weekly Sunday attendance. But if the church starts adding to your already over-scheduled lives, your husband is most likely going to resent it.

Todd said it best: "I'm glad my wife and kids like going to your church. I think it's important for them to find ways to serve and to help others. But my kids also have homework and sports games and chores. And my wife helps my kids with homework and sports games and chores. So the next time the call goes out for more volunteers for Vacation Bible School or the next kids' activity, please be considerate of those people who are already doing plenty for the kingdom cause."

Court bans Islamic instant ‘triple talaq’ divorce law | Mr Olumide's Blog

Posted: 22 Aug 2017 12:32 AM PDT

India's Supreme Court on Tuesday blocked the use of a Muslim divorce law until the government frames new legislation, a partial victory for Muslim women who had long argued that the rule violated their right to equality.

The "triple talaq" law, allowed Muslim men to divorce their wives simply by uttering the word "talaq" three times.

The judges said the law violated Article 14 and 21 of the Constitution of India, which is related to equality, and protection of life and personal liberty respectively.

"It's a very happy day for us. It's a historic day," said Zakia Soman the co-founder of the Indian Muslim Women's Movement, which was part of the legal battle to end triple talaq.
"We, the Muslim women, are entitled to justice from the courts as well as the legislature," she added.Muslim women say they have been left destitute by husbands divorcing them through "triple talaq", including by Skype and WhatsApp.

This must be planned- Father of murdered 8 year old girl cries out as suspect escapes from police custody | Mr Olumide's Blog

Posted: 22 Aug 2017 12:32 AM PDT

On Monday when members of the public learnt that Ifeanyi Dike, the man who allegedly raped, killed and removed vital organs of an eight-year-old girl, Victory Chikamso, had escaped from the police custody.

The father of the victim, Dr. Ernest Nmezuwuba, who was at the State Criminal Investigation Department when the suspected murderer and ritual killer escaped from police custody, said Dike took advantage of the darkness within the SCID's premises to escape.

Nmezuwuba, who spoke during a Port Harcourt-based radio's programme,said,
"We were there with the suspect in handcuffs. When we got to the state CID, there was no light in the entire State CID. I wrote my statement with candle; imagine a whole state CID (without light). Then Johnbosco removed the handcuffs from the suspect's hands for him (suspect) to write his statement.
"At a point, the boy (Dike) said he was thirsty and Johnbosco said I should buy pure water for him and I asked him ('John; are you crazy? Is something wrong with you? Why would you ask me to buy water for a person that killed my daughter? Why would I buy water for a ritualist?' And I told Johnbosco that it was none of my business.
"Some policemen were at the gate with guns while we were at the charge room writing statement. After we finished writing our statements, Johnbosco called the IPO to go and put the suspect in the cell. The suspect was not handcuffed at that time.
"They did not walk up to a pole when I heard hold am, hold am; he has escaped. Whether he jumped the fence or not, I cannot say because the entire place was dark; it was between 7.30 and 8pm (Saturday night). I now told Johnbosco that you know what you are doing.
"They (policemen) came out with torchlight and checked under the cars parked there. Then I saw the DCP, I mean the Deputy Commissioner of Police and he said; what nonsense is this? He then asked after Johnbosco and he was told he (Johnbosco) was inside. The DCP then said that they should handcuff both his hands and legs."

Nmezuwuba expressed disappointment in the police, accusing them of playing game with a heinous crime against humanity, even as he vowed that he would never allowed it to be swept under the carpet.

He said, "My brother, I cannot understand this country; this must be a planned game and I must fight it to the end. They have to provide that suspect. The Rivers State Police must provide him while Johnbosco should remain in detention.
"This incident has proven the kind of country we are living. What is going to happen in this particular matter; honestly speaking, heaven will hear it. The whole world will hear it."

On his relationship with Dike, he said,
"The boy (suspect) is related to me; we are from the same village. He killed my daughter inside his room. Ifeanyi Dike's landlord is my in-law and also his own in-law. The landlord was arrested and the same day, they released him (landlord).  The name of the landlord is Pius Nwoko."

Dike, who had allegedly defiled, killed and removed the vital organs of eight-year-old Chikamso, was caught by a local vigilante, who immediately handed him over to the police on Saturday.

However, the state Commissioner of Police, Mr. Zaki Ahmed, who was visibly sad and angry over the development, explained that the suspect escaped under the cover of the night and promised that the police would soon arrest him.

Describing the incident as an individual negligence, Ahmed stressed that the police had deployed human and material resources towards ensuring that the suspect was apprehended.

The CP said,
"What I am saying is that it was an individual negligence that caused it. The escape happened in the presence of the complainant; that is the parent of the girl. The boy (suspect) escaped under the cover of the night.
"But we are making every effort, every move and by the grace of the Almighty God, within a short time, he will be arrested. We are not relenting. We know that this is a serious problem; it can happen to anybody.
"We are not relenting and by the grace of God, we will get him arrested. It is too bad it happened, but it is one of those things. Sometimes, things can happen this way.
"We have moved a lot of resources; both human and material resources, to ensure that the culprit is arrested. We call on the people to confide in us if they have any useful information. I will act on it."

Floyd Mayweather enraged as Justin Bieber unfriends him to avoid bad influence | Mr Olumide's Blog

Posted: 22 Aug 2017 12:32 AM PDT

It's no news that Justin Bieber and Floyd Mayweather were best of friends ,with Justin even accompanying Mayweather to the ring, during his fight with Pacquiao. But now, that friendship has fizzled out after Bieber rededicated his life to Christ.

According to TMZ,Justin Bieber is not only off Floyd Mayweather's Money Team, he's now one of Floyd's mortal enemies as the musician unfollowed the boxer on Instagram.

Sources connected to both Justin and Floyd say, the folks at the Hillsong Church have been counseling Justin for months on taking a hard look at his friends and pulling back from those who are bad influences.
Church pastors did not single out Floyd as a bad influence, but Justin decided on his own he needed some distance. TMZ sources say Justin didn't want a clean break from Floyd, he just wanted to "reset boundaries" ... walling himself off from things like Floyd's obsession with strip clubs.

Justin unfollowed Floyd on Instagram as part of the resetting of boundaries, and sources say Floyd went "insane, nuclear." He lashed out at Justin, called him a "traitor" because Floyd had stuck with Justin during his meltdown when everyone was attacking Bieber.
Sources connected with Floyd say the boxer continues to be incensed at Justin ... screaming incensed.

How To Pray If You Want To Be A Genuine Christian

Posted: 22 Aug 2017 12:24 AM PDT

"A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another: just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another. By this all people will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another." (John 13:34-35)

Technology is a beautiful thing. The Internet has been used as a powerful tool to spread the love of Jesus and the life-changing message of the Gospel around the world. It's also misused on a daily basis by so many of us. The world sees one Christian's behavior and associates it with all Christians. They see one person's actions and assume it represents the God we are supposed to serve.

Our behavior, particularly our interactions online, are always under a microscope. The problem so many encounter is that they lose sight of that fact.

One of my favorite passages of Scripture is found in Romans 12, which gives an outline – or how-to guide – for living the Christian life. In fact, in the ESV version, Romans 12:9-21 appears under the heading of "Marks of a True Christian." The truths expressed in this passage give us a roadmap to how to exhibit true Christian behavior. When these "marks" are represented in our real life, it's only natural that they'll come through in our interactions online.

Love people genuinely. Love is critical in the life of a follower of Christ. In fact, it's a command. "A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another: just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another. By this all people will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another" (John 13:34-35). It's our identifying characteristic. Everything we do on social media should reflect love – real love. "...let us not love in word or talk but in deed and in truth" (1 John 3:18).

Be empathetic. One of the reasons there is so much cruelty on the Internet, and much of it from Christians, is because we have a hard time understanding the feelings of others. We think our views are the only right views, and it's impossible to fathom another's. We need to take time to listen and understand our brothers and sisters. As the old saying goes, "God gave us two ears and one mouth for a reason." It's to listen twice as much as we speak.

Overcome evil with good. When someone hurts us, our tendency is to want to hurt them back. But, Jesus tells us to "bless those who curse you, pray for those who abuse you" (Luke 6:28). Jesus' brother, James, puts a fine point on it: "With [our tongue] we bless our Lord and Father, and with it we curse people who are made in the likeness of God. From the same mouth come blessing and cursing. My brothers, these things ought not to be so" (James 3:9-11). We need to remember that the people we encounter online – especially the ones with whom we disagree the most – are made in the image of God. Jesus died for them, just as He died for us.

Before posting anything online, we should ask ourselves:
is this loving? Is it honorable? Am I being empathetic? Is it bringing peace, or is it divisive? Am I being prideful? Am I trying to overcome darkness with more darkness? If we can't answer all of these questions the way we ought, perhaps we should step away from the keyboard.

Prayer...
Father, thank you for choosing us. Thank you for allowing us to have a relationship with You. Please forgive us for the occasions when we allow our earthly desires to take precedent over what you would have us to do. Thank you for the technology you have given us. Help us to be good stewards, and through your Holy Spirit, leads us in how we use it. When we interact online, helps us to be full of love, empathy, grace, mercy, peace, humility and goodness. Amen.

APC Youth Forum: 'Welcome Home Baba: Let's Re-Dedicate Ourselves in the Service of Our Nation'

Posted: 21 Aug 2017 10:54 PM PDT

The APC Youth Forum (APYF), joins all Nigerians to welcome home our tenacious, tireless and incorruptible leader; the father of the nation; and Commander in Chief of our Armed Forces, Muhammadu Buhari, back home to Nigeria.

Having prayed for his safe return and recovery, the APYF is ecstatic and eager to see this administration continue its social reform and economic stabilization policies — as highlighted by Mr. President in his address to the Nation.

Furthermore, as fellow custodians of our great parties' mandate, we, the young people and professionals within the party, see Mr. President's return and underlined agenda as an opportunity to rededicate ourselves in the service of our nation — through our party, the APC.

Moving forward, we shall continue to work hard to deliver on our promises; impact the lives of our immediate communities and the grassroots through our various programs under the Social Investment and many other government programs, and work alongside the president, his amiable deputy and other esteemed leaders across Nigeria to actualize a 'New Nigeria' that works for all Nigerians.

We want to especially extend our gratitude, loyalty and respect to our esteemed and effective Vice-President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo, for holding the fort and steering the affairs of the nation while Baba was recovering. His reconciliatory posture, his depth and intellectual curiosity in dealing with economic and social issues ensured the stability of the ship. This is a combination we had always hoped and prayed for.

We thank the Almighty for bringing back our President with even greater zeal to succeed on our parties' mandate; and we pray that the Almighty, in His infinite mercies, wisdom and grace, will continue to bless and guide our nation and all its people. Amen.

Signed:
Barrister Ismaeel Ahmed
National Chairman, APYF
