Woman Nabbed For Killing Two Sons While Nigerian Husband Was In Prison

Posted: 19 Oct 2017 03:46 AM PDT

A 30-year-old woman, Kula Pelima, has been charged with drowning her infant son and the baby's 5-year-old half-brother, police officials in Wilmington, USA, said Tuesday.

It was learnt that she killed the two children after expressing concerns over her immigration status.

The Police who summoned to the woman's apartment on Monday morning, found the children dead in the tub and a strong smell of gas in the air, prompting a temporary evacuation of the building.

According to  Philly, Chief of Police Robert Tracy said at a news conference that Pelima has been taken into custody and charged with counts of first-degree murder after questioning and confession.

The boys were identified as Solomen Eppell, 4 months old, and Alex Eppell, 5. According to police, no one else was home at the time.

Pelima's lover, Victor Epelle, who's also the father of the two children was arrested by Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents earlier this month for immigration issues.

Epelle is from Nigeria. He's being held in a York, Pennsylvania prison. Investigators said Pelima never explained why she harmed the children, but it appears she grew concerned about her status with regards to immigration. She is from Liberia but has been in the U.S. since 1997.

Police said Pelima and Epelle established residence in Wilmington within the past few months.

Tracy said Pelima, a Liberian native, had called police at 3:45am Monday, expressing concern about her immigration status. An officer who went to the address to reassure the woman was not in trouble saw the 5-year-old and reported seeing nothing wrong or alarming.

When police were called again to the apartment around 8:30am, the children were dead.

Police have not been able to locate the 5-year-old boy's biological mother, the chief said.

UPDATE: Air Force Deploys Fighter Aircraft, Troops To End Plateau Killings

Posted: 19 Oct 2017 03:46 AM PDT

The Nigerian Air Force has deployed its troops and fighter aircraft including the L-39ZA aircraft and the EC-135 attack helicopter to Jos, Plateau State, to join efforts in curtailing herdsmen's killings.
"We have deployed some air assets and personnel to Jos to support Operation Safe Haven to maintain peace and curtail senseless killings as well as the possible spread of violence in some parts of the state."

This was announced today by the NAF Director of Public Relations and Information, Air Commodore Olatokunbo Adesanya, who said the step was a directive from President Buhari.

Adesanya said the deployment was to prevent reprisals, which "would escalate the conflict", adding the joint military operation in the state, Safe Haven, would ensure a lasting end to the killings.

He said, "The deployment was ordered by the Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar, in compliance with the directive of the President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Muhammadu Buhari, to ensure that an end is put to the current spate of violence and killings in the state. The deployment is also to ensure the prevention of reprisal attacks, which could escalate the conflict.

"The deployed NAF assets include the L-39ZA aircraft and the EC-135 helicopter, which are to provide necessary air cover to the surface forces participating in the operation in the state."

Reps endorse motion for FRSC officials to bear arms | Mr Olumide's Blog

Posted: 19 Oct 2017 03:09 AM PDT

The House of Representatives said
yesterday that officials of the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) should bear arms in a bid to effectively carry out their responsibilities of saving lives.

The Green Chamber noted the increasing cases of violent attacks, harassment and intimidation of personnel and officers of the FRSC by highly placed individuals, motorists and hoodlums across the country, particularly in Zamfara, Jigawa, Abia and Lagos states.

The members noted that from 2015 to date, there have been 149 cases of attacks on personnel and 201 cases of damage to properties and equipment of the commission.

They, therefore, urged the Federal Government to facilitate the procurement of arms and ammunitions for FRSC officers.

The resolution of the House was sequel to the passage of a motion by Hon. Solomon Maren titled: "Need to Curb Incessant Attacks on Personnel of the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC)".

When the Speaker, Hon. Yakubu Dogara called for a vote on the motion, it was passed without dissent.

The House subsequently mandated the Committee on Federal Road Safety Commission to investigate cases of attacks on personnel of the FRSC and also ensure implementation of the resolution to arm the officials.

The committee is to report back within four weeks for further legislative action.

Bishop Oyedepo: No special treatment, even my adopted son was thrown out of Covenant University

Posted: 19 Oct 2017 02:46 AM PDT

Here's a brief part of what a Bishop David Oyedepo said about education in a recent interview:
Examina- tion malpractice culminates in summary dismissal from our system, we cannot be raising people who will deal with corruption and are corrupt themselves.
Examina- tion malpractice at 500 level, no mercy! We are convinced that he has been doing it since 100 level otherwise there would not be need to do it at 500 level, and we have a psychological basis for that.
There is no way you will go for examination malpractice at 500 level in Engineering, if you have been passing your exams since 100 level.
So we are also out to sanitize the intellectual platform of our nation.
I must say this; Governors have come to pick their children from our campus. The daughter of our first Vice-Chancellor was rus- ticated from the University for one year, my adopted son was thrown out for one year at Covenant, so there is no white cow in the system and that makes everybody shake and fear
If I must mention it, one of our former Presidents had a relation that had a son rusticated and called me, I said I am sorry, I do not get involved, please talk to the Vice-Chancellor. He said can I have his number, I said no and we are still friends. Because the moment you make rules and you abide by the rules yourself, everybody is forced to follow, and that is what we are trying to do.
We are in dire need of leaders in our country and we will be wishing till death until we start raising the kind of leaders we want by taking them through the princi- ple of this kind of training so that they can be there to effect changes.

Interesting read! How your star sign rules your Sex life | Mr Olumide's Blog

Posted: 19 Oct 2017 02:34 AM PDT

If you believe in star signs, then this article by
Allure's astrologer Aliza Kelly Faragher,is for you. She has written a guide to each signs attitude to sex, from turn ons to favoured positions.By the way, i'm Pisces and can totally relate.
ARIES: March 21 – April 19

Aries is a natural risk taker with a fiery nature, which combined with the strength of Mars makes you bold and full of energy.

You're turned on by anything impulsive and although foreplay isn't your strong point, the opportunity to take charge gets you going.

That impulsive nature means Aries is partial to a quick tryst in an unusual spot and as ruler of the head, you'll likely enjoy extra hair tousling. TAURUS: April 20 – May 20
It's no surprise that sensuous Taurus enjoys sensual pleasures such as bubble baths, silken sheets and luxurious massages.

As a Taurus you're in touch with all the senses and are aroused by sound, sight, taste, smell and touch.

The missionary position with lots of eye contact is your favoured position, while the neck and throat is your most sensitive erogenous zone.

GEMINI: May 2 - June 20

Being ruled by planet of communication Mercury means seductive talk is the way to a Gemini's heart, and they enjoy the conversation continuing during lovemaking.

As an energetic you appreciate switching positions throughout sex.You may even find Geminis the most likely sign to suggest a threesome as they love to explore things in multiples.

CANCER: June 21 – July 22

Casual sex is not the dream scenario for Cancer who likes to feel safe and secure in a relationship before revealing their true self.

They like to engender intimacy with physical closeness and as the sign rule by the hands, intertwining fingers, cuddling

However, once they've come out of the proverbial shell Cancerians are deeply sensual and favour wraparound positions where they can maintain eye contact and show off their intricate moves.

LEO: JULY 22 – August 22

It will come as no surprise that the king of the jungle likes to be the ruler in the bedroom, getting turned on by feeling important and desired.

In return you'll be treated to big romantic gestures, elaborate dates and grand declarations of love.

If you're a Leo you're likely to enjoy seated positions in chairs that allow you to put on a theatrical display.

VIRGO: AUGUST 22 - SEPTEMBER 22

Although Virogs are seen as innocent and maybe a little, you are anything but.

Your attitude may be a little adolescent but that means you have a teenager's fixation with sex and it's often on your mind 24/7.

As Virog is ruled by planet of communication Mercury, witty banter and elevated conversation gets you going - and if a love letter is too old fashioned a spot of naughty sexting fits the bill.

LIBRA: 22 September - 23 October

You'll never find yourself unappreciated in the bedroom with a Libra as they love to worship their partner in both body and mind.

Traditional at heart, they like to be discreet and prefer to keep intimacy within the bedroom as opposed to the al fresco preferences of other adventurous signs.

A Libra lover is very giving but it's not all one sided - you will be expected to return all the favours you get.

SCORPIO: 23 October - 22 November

Scorpio is the sign most closely associated with sex and you're known for your insatiable appetites and love of a sophisticated seduction.

As a fearless sort, you're not shy about experimenting with kinkier practices such as bondage, domination and submission.

Luckily for anyone with a Scorpio lover this intense focus on sex means your partner will be aiming for satisfaction on every level, both mind and body. SAGITTARIUS: 22 November - 21 December

With a taste for adventure and exploration, you see sex as an opportunity to discover new things and expand your mind.

You're light-hearted and optimistic and don't tend to take sexual encounters too seriously.

Having sex outdoors in public is not for the faint-hearted but is exactly the kind of thrill Sagittarius seeks.

CAPRICORN: 21 December - 20 January

At first you may find your Capricorn lover seems distant or unattached when it comes to matters of the heart, but this sign is a slow burner who likes to approach things slowly.

However, you should be prepared for a wild time once Capricorn feels ready to take things to the next level.

They take pride in introducing their partner to new pleasures for the first time - and being the best lover they've ever had.

AQUARIUS: 20 January - 18 February

Aquarians can also seem a little detached when it comes to love as they're more likely to be dreaming with their heads in the clouds than thinking of earthly pleasures.

You can enjoy a satisfying sex life with Aquarius though, as long as you rip up the rule book and be prepared for the unconventional to appeal to their sense of nonconformity.

Aquarius is ruled by Uranus, the planet of technology, so any quirky new sex gadgets are likely to spark their interest.

PISCES: 18 February - 20 March

Casual sex is a no-no for Pisceans who see it as a spiritual act, signifying the coming together of two souls.

This sign rules the feet, so a massage is one surefire way to spark the fires of passion.

Tantric sex is also an ideal practice for sensitive Pisces who likes to explore beyond the limitations of the body and go deep into the subconscious mind

Killings In Plateau: We Underestimated Number Of Attackers, says Military

Posted: 19 Oct 2017 01:46 AM PDT

The military has denied allegations of complicity in the killing of about 29 persons, including women and children, in the Nkiedonwhro community of Plateau State.

Rather, the military said it was overwhelmed by the numerical strength and tactics of the attackers.

The spokesperson of Operation Safe Haven, Capt. Umar Adams, made the denial in an interview with Punch in Jos on Wednesday.

The President of Rigwe Development Association, Sunday Abdu, had accused soldiers deployed in the area of complicity, saying, "The soldiers masterminded the killing; that was what happened. The people were at home when they heard gunshots. Some of them were assured by the soldiers of safety. Then, one of the soldiers told the ward head to follow them for protection. And he obliged, believing that the soldiers would give them safety.

"As this was going on, some young men, women and children were gathered in the classroom of a primary school. One of the young men refused to enter the classroom, insisting on staying with the soldiers. The person saw everything that happened.

"He saw some people in the bush giving signs with their hands to the soldiers. It was between 6:30 and 7:00 pm; he saw the hand as if it was calling some people. The boy told the soldiers, 'See oo, there is somebody in the bush giving signals with his hands and he is a Fulani person.'

"He said that immediately after that, there was a gunshot and the soldiers advised residents to remain in the classroom while they (the soldiers) went for the attackers. He alleged that one of the soldiers signalled the assailants to attack.

"That was how the execution was carried out," he said.

But Capt. Adams disagreed with Abdu, insisting that the attackers were too many for them to curtail.

He said, "During the killings, there was gunshot exchange between our troops and the attackers. The attackers came en masse and they were shooting sporadically and the people in the village started running towards one of the bases where our men were deployed. That was when our men offered them safety in the classroom.

"But as those attackers were still advancing, our men had to repel them by engaging them in gunshots. But because it was dark and they were many in number, our men didn't know that there were others who came from another direction. While our people were attacking those ones, others came from a different route and fired the people in the classroom. But to our greatest disappointment, people are pushing the blame on us."

Capt. Adams claimed that the Fulani herdsmen wounded by the troops were assisted to escape by their colleagues after the exchange of gunfire.

"When the attackers were firing at our people, our men were also firing back. Our people were able to shoot some of them; but because of their number, they were moving those who were wounded by our gunshots," he said.

Adams also claimed that the base of OPSH in the area was destroyed because the soldiers tried to stop the protesting women from attacking the Fulani after the killing of a young man.

Man Arrested While Fleeing With 5 Abducted Children

Posted: 19 Oct 2017 01:46 AM PDT

A resident of Isheri-Olofin, Ogun State, has been arrested by the police after he was caught with five children he allegedly abducted from the community. The suspect, identified simply as Adebayo, had lured the children out of the neighbourhood.

The victims were identified simply as, Tunde, 6; Kehinde, 6; Ayo, 7; Ayomide, 8; and Basirat, 8.

It was gathered that some parents of the victims and many residents had attended a church crusade on Sunday, while the children played around.

According to Punch, Adebayo, who had moved into the community four days earlier, reportedly lured the children under false pretences of taking them somewhere for a treat.

He was about to board a bus at Kara bus stop when a resident, who was returning from Mowe, Ogun State, met him at the bus stop with the children.

When the resident, a lady, asked where the children were being taken to, the suspect reportedly rambled, making her to raise the alarm.

A resident, Taiwo Adetunji, said policemen from Ojodu Abiodun division were alerted to the incident and the suspect was arrested.

He said, "A church crusade was held in the community on Sunday, October 8, at about 6pm, which many people attended. The man moved into the community on October 4 and he was unknown to many people. He cashed in on the programme to abduct the kids.

"If the woman did not see him at the bus stop, he would have taken the five children away. We are still wondering how he managed to pick the children without being challenged by anybody. He probably used charms because our children don't normally follow strangers. We have never witnessed such an incident in the community before."

A community leader said he collected Adebayo's phone and discovered that he had been conversing with somebody, who was expected to bring a vehicle that would take the children away.

"I collected his phone and spoke with his accomplice who was talking to him. When the caller noticed that my voice was different from Adebayo's, he terminated the call. Since then, the person's line has not been going through.

"A mob wanted to beat him up at the bus stop, but we cautioned them and handed him over to policemen from the Ojodu Abiodun division," he added.
Fatimo Femi, whose son and grandson were among victims, said she was a neighbour to the suspect. She added that she was sleeping when the news of the abduction filtered into the community.

She said, "The suspect was living with his friend in our compound, but my children don't relate with him. I was surprised how he was able to lure them out of the house."

Another mum, Azeezat Alaran, said Bashirat was playing in Femi's house when she was abducted.

Abibat Iliyasu, said, "I went to mosque to pray around 4pm on that day. When I came back, I did not find Ayo at home only to be told that she had gone to play with her friends in the neighborhood.

"It was someone who later called me on the telephone that my daughter was kidnapped, but she had been rescued at Kara. I rushed there and met a crowd."

The spokesperson for Oba of Isheri-Olofin, Alhaji Saudi Adeshina, said the incident had made them to beef up security in the community to prevent a recurrence.

Senate To EFCC: "Unfreeze Patience Jonathan’s Accounts"

Posted: 19 Oct 2017 01:16 AM PDT

Senate Committee on Ethics, Privileges and Public Petitions on Wednesday asked Stanbic IBTC Bank and Zenith Bank to unfreeze accounts linked to Partience, wife of ex-President Goodluck Jonathan.

Members of the panel took turns to condemn the EFCC for the continued freezing of the accounts by the banks when there was a court order vacating the freezing order.

The committee is made up of members of the opposition PDP.

The lawmakers faulted the EFCC for notifying banks on court judgments freezing accounts domiciled in the financial institutions but allegedly refusing to write the banks when the freezing order had been vacated, but later served them with notice of appeal.

Patience had petitioned the Senate through her lawyer, Mr. Charles Ogboli (SAN), protesting against the freezing of her accounts in seven banks without court orders.

Several members of the committee queried the powers of the EFCC to serve court orders on banks, when the anti-graft agency was not part of the judiciary.

According to them, the banks were "afraid" of the EFCC, which was the reason they kept flagging the accounts based on letters from the commission.

"The EFCC cannot take someone to court, and then be the one to serve the bank. The EFCC is not the judiciary, the judiciary is separate. That is why there are people engaged as court bailiffs," a member of the panel, Senator Obinna Ogba, said.

He added, "Mr. Chairman, I think you need to give a definite instruction for them to open that account now because this bank has no business freezing that account."

Senator Ogba also accused the banks of taking advantage of such orders to trade with customers' cash.

Also criticising the banks, Senator Mao Ohuabunwa, said, "Why you responded to that instruction (to freeze the accounts) was because there was a court order. And now you have an evidence to show that the order has been vacated. Then, somebody (EFCC) is now writing you a letter (notice of appeal). On what basis are you basing your actions?"

The Chairman of the Committee, Senator Sam Anyanwu, also faulted the process, saying, "The court bailiff should be the one to serve the court order and the bank should sign for it. It looks as if they (banks) are taking the advantage. The money is available to you (banks) and you are trading with it."

Officials of the bank stated that though the two accounts had been linked, the second account was only frozen because it had not fully complied with the "Know Your Customer" requirements of the Central Bank of Nigeria, and not by any court order obtained by the EFCC.
Senator Anyanwu said, "We will like to have the statement of the accounts and the mandate cards of the accounts. Then, of course, you said there was a KYC issue on it; the committee will decide on what to do about that."

Innocent boy tortured by woman after wrongly accusing him of defiling his sister

Posted: 19 Oct 2017 01:16 AM PDT

A woman, Chinyere James, has been arrested by the police in the Okokomaiko division, Lagos State, for allegedly torturing her nine-year-old cousin, identified as Emmanuel.

The victim had been wrongly accused by the 28-year-old woman of defiling his three-year-old sister at their home on Akinberu Road, Okokomaiko.

Without investigation, she flogged him for hours, as his plea of innocence fell on deaf ears.

According to Punch, a resident was said to have rescued him and reported the matter to the Lagos State Office of the Public Defender.

An official of the agency, who did not want to be identified, said the case was reported to the police.

She said, "The boy's mother, Joy, and the aunt, Chinyere, live in the same single-room apartment with their parents. Joy, who is 27 years old, had Emmanuel and the three year-old for different men.

"Chinyere tortured the boy for an offence he didn't commit. Investigation showed that it was one of their neighbours that defiled the boy's three-year-old sister.

"When the police interrogated Joy, she took responsibility for the injuries on the boy's body and lied that Chinyere did not touch the boy.

"But the truth later came out. The police arrested her and her sister, while the two children were taken into protective custody."

The 3-year-old had been tested by Mirabel Medical Centre, Lagos University Teaching Hospital.

A report was still being awaited to ascertain the culpability of the neighbour.

The Director of the OPD, Mrs. Adebukola Salami, said government would not condone child abuse.

The sisters Joy and Chinyere had been charged before an Ojo Magistrate's Court on counts of assault.

The defendants pleaded not guilty to the charges and were subsequently admitted to bail.

The case was said to have been adjourned till December 13, 2017.

We Won’t Die Without You – PDP Replies Obasanjo

Posted: 19 Oct 2017 01:16 AM PDT

Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has said that it will not force former President Olusegun Obasanjo to return as its member. It said it would respect the decision of the former President, but added that whether he returned or not, the party would not die.

Obasanjo had on Tuesday vowed never to return to PDP, saying he would rather remain a statesman and working for the interest of Nigeria and Nigerians.

Speaking after he held a meeting with the National Caretaker Chairman of the party, Ahmed Makarfi in Abeokuta, he had said, "I have told the chairman that I was in the PDP before but not now. God forbid, se when dog vomits, it will go back to eat its vomit, no.

"I have said no partisan politics for me again, but Nigeria is my passion until death do us apart. And anything that concerns Nigeria, the good of Nigeria, you'll see my involvement."

Reacting, spokesperson for PDP, Prince Dayo Adeyeye, said Obasanjo had earlier said that he would not return to the party, adding that as an individual, the party would respect his views.

He said, "He has said it before (that he won't return to the party). We are not going to force him. No individual is bigger than the party.

"Obasanjo has the right to hold his opinion. But PDP will not die, either he joins us or not. We respect his opinion. There's nothing to say more than that. He is an individual and we respect him."

Nigerian police say gunmen have kidnapped four British nationals in the Niger Delta region.

Police spokesman Andrew Aniamaka said Wednesday the four were abducted around 2 a.m. in Enukorowa community in the Burutu local government area.
He says they include a doctor, his wife and two other men who were involved in preaching and providing free medical services to residents.

Aniamaka says it is believed that militants carried out the kidnapping. No ransom demand has been made.

Kidnapping for ransom is common in Nigeria. An Italian priest was kidnapped Oct. 12, though Italy's foreign minister said Wednesday he has since been freed.

Muslim cleric arrested in connection with the murder of 'Pakistan's Kim Kardashian | Mr Olumide's Blog

Posted: 19 Oct 2017 12:54 AM PDT

Police have arrested a Muslim cleric in connection with the murder of 'Pakistan's Kim Kardashian' who was killed after posting racy pictures online.

Social media star Qandeel Baloch, 26, was strangled last July and her brother Muhammad Waseem confessed to the killing.
His case has yet to go to trial in the central city of Multan and police have today arrested a high-profile mullah over his alleged role in the murder. Dailymail reports

Baloch shot to fame for her provocative selfies - tame by Western standards, but which polarised the conservative Muslim country.
Her death reignited calls for against against so-called 'honour killings'.
Prosecutors had been urging the court to also indict the cleric, Mufti Abdul Qavi, and he was arrested on Wednesday.

His phone records showed he had been in touch with Waseem after he was embroiled in controversy with Baloch earlier last year.
He was sacked from his position on a government committee and rebuked by a religious affairs council after Baloch released pictures of herself with him in a hotel room weeks before her murder, wearing his hat and pouting.

She later called Qavi a 'blot on the name of Islam' and accused him of inappropriate behaviour. She said at the time: 'I thought I would expose him as he is in reality. He is a different person alone and different when he has his followers around him.
Prosecutor Ziaur Rehman told the judge that Qavi's phone records showed he had been in contact with Baloch's brother Waseem and cousin Haq Nawaz, accused by police of being an accomplice, before the murder.

On Wednesday a Multan court revoked Qavi's bail and ordered his arrest. Qavi, who has denied any role in the killing, briefly fled the court, but was taken into custody by police later in the day.

Senior police official Fahad Ahmad confirmed the arrest and said that police were investigating Qavi.
