Nurse Arrested for Buying 5yrs Old Boy for A Barren Couple Posted: 12 Oct 2017 04:04 AM PDT The Police in Kano has arrested a couple and a nurse for buying a five-year-old boy. The State's Police PRO, DSP Magaji Majiya, who paraded the suspects on Wednesday, said they were apprehended on October 10, following a tip-off by one Hajiya Fatima who assisted the police. "We received information from Hajiya Fatima that someone wants to buy her baby. So we told her to tell them she has agreed to sell the boy. "The suspects bought the baby at the rate of N15,000 and paid N13,000 as part payment." The PPRO said that one of the suspect, Itopam Pious, who claimed to be a nurse at ECWA Eye Hospital Kano, was arrested while trying to confiscate the baby from his mother. According to him, the nurse intended to buy the baby for a couple, Mr and Mrs Charles Bob-manuel, who came to Kano from Rivers to adopt a baby because they were married for 12 years without a child. Majiya said the nurse confessed to having committed the offence, while the couple denied the offence. He said that investigation is still ongoing, adding that the suspects would be charged to court. culled from Olu famous Mr Olumide's Blog |

1.8m Boko Haram IDPs not ready to return home | Mr Olumide's Blog Posted: 12 Oct 2017 03:42 AM PDT The Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC) says 1.8 million persons displaced by Boko Haram insurgency are unwilling to return to their ancestral communities soon in the North-East. The Secretary-General of the Council, Mr Jan Egeland, made this known while presenting the report on situation of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs), in Maiduguri. The report titled "Not Ready to Return" was compiled in collaboration with Danish Refugee Council and Protection Cluster Nigeria. He said the IDPs were still concerned about security in their communities, reconstructing their destroyed homes and finding means of livelihood when they return home. Egeland said that 3, 400 households were interviewed during the study at various IDP camps and host communities in 12 local government areas of Borno. He explained that the study indicated that more than 80 per cent of those interviewed were unwilling to return home in the immediate future due to security concerns. "The findings of the report are indisputable, when 86 per cent of people tell us they are not ready to go home yet, we must listen, and this cannot fall on deaf ears. "Today, I met a woman in Monguno , who fled her village two years ago after Boko Haram set it ablaze. She is eager to bring her six children home, but she told me it is too soon, that the armed group are still present. "People must decide to return of their own free will, coercing communities to move home is a deadly recipe set to worsen the conflict. "While the end game is for communities to return home, the unfortunate truth is that pushing people back now will have harmful consequences. "An overwhelming 85 per cent of people living in formal camps tell us they feel safer there than where they were before, despite the deplorable attacks on camps. "Even, if the security situation improves, half of the displaced persons interviewed say their houses were destroyed in the conflict. "Forty eight per cent of them do not have information about the current state of their homes, indicating that this figure could be much higher," he said. Egeland noted that while the military gained successes in the fight against the Boko Haram insurgents, the armed group resorted to attacks on soft targets, including markets and sites sheltering displaced persons. The NCR secretary-general added that the report recommended certain measures needed before the displaced persons could go home, including overall improvement of security in rural communities. He said that resources must be channelled into rebuilding homes and re-establishing livelihoods adding that it is important to involve the displaced persons in developing these programmes. "People need a roof over their heads and the prospect of making a living, if they are to have any chance of rebuilding their lives. "We are ready to work with the government to help displaced Nigerian's return home. But movements must be voluntary, safe and informed". NAN culled from MPNB Mr Olumide's Blog |
You Can’t Treat Unequals As Equals, el-Rufai on restructuring Posted: 12 Oct 2017 03:34 AM PDT Amid agitation by some South-East leaders for the creation of an additional state in the zone, Kaduna State governor and chairman of the ruling APC committee on True Federalism, Nasir el-Rufai, has said that it would be a grave injustice to agitate for "equal unequals". But what does el-Rufai mean by equals and unequals? Hear him: Speaking at a town hall meeting organised by his committee, the governor said when people talk about restructuring, most proponents think of their zones while no one thinks of the country. He said: "The greatest injustice is trying to make equals unequal and unequals equal; things are not done like that. What do I mean by that? "There are those who have said that Nigeria and United States are the same. It is just like saying everyone who is six feet, five can play basket ball. As human beings, we are equal but you cannot come and stand here and say we should create nine states in each zone, Nigeria is not equal, likewise the population and resources, you can't do that. "Now, some people say because we have oil, let us have resource control. We must think of what is in the overall interest of Nigeria. "By that I mean what works for everyone. Because what works for one part of the county will not necessarily work for the other and so as long as we are from one country, we must seek for what is of common good, not the one that serves one interest group." culled from Olu famous Mr Olumide's Blog |
Nigerian Wrestling Champion, Power Uti, Arrested Over Wife's Death In Lagos Posted: 12 Oct 2017 03:34 AM PDT Nigerian wrestling champion, Power Uti has been arrested following the controversial death of his wife, identified as Toyin, in their home in the Ilupeju area of Lagos. Twitter suspends Rose McGowan after lashing out at Harvey Weinstein | Mr Olumide's Blog Posted: 12 Oct 2017 02:57 AM PDT Rose McGowan claimed Twitter was clamping down on her account Wednesday night after she spoke out against Harvey Weinstein and other Hollywood heavyweights amid the sexual abuse scandal. McGowan took to Instagram to share a screenshot of a notification that Twitter was temporarily limiting her account after it determined she violated the rules. McGowan, who is barred from tweeting, retweeting or liking any posts for 12 hours, wrote in the Instagram caption, "TWITTER HAS SUSPENDED ME. THERE ARE POWERFUL FORCES AT WORK. BE MY VOICE. #ROSEARMY." According to NY Daily Weinstein paid McGowan a $100,000 settlement after an episode in a hotel room in 1997, and more than a dozen women have since accused him of sexual misconduct. McGowan has been particularly outspoken on Twitter, where she called Weinstein a "POS" and accused Ben Affleck of lying in his statement responding to the reports of sexual assault and harassment. McGowan also started a petition for the board of the Weinstein Co. to be dissolved, lent her support to fellow accusers and put the spotlight on men in Hollywood to speak up. culled from MPNB Mr Olumide's Blog |
No difference in the intelligence between a boy and a girl child - Yemi Osibanjo | Mr Olumide's Blog Posted: 12 Oct 2017 02:57 AM PDT To celebrate the International Day of the Girl Child, Vice President Yemi Osinbajo hosted a couple of young girls at the state house yesterday. During the meeting, Osinbajo, gave an inspiring speech, which is a must read for everyone. "In my first year in University, the first person to get a First Class in the Faculty of Law in the University of Lagos was actually a married woman with 4 children. Let me first say that this is really a wonderful idea today in celebration of the International Day of the Girl Child. I think it is a very important way to celebrate it, first to celebrate the great success of Blessing, whom I am told had the best result in the Junior Secondary School Examinations. I have had a chance to look at the result, she seemed to have gotten As in all of the 18 subjects except one. I think it was 17 As and 1 C. That is really incredible, congratulations! I think what success demonstrates is exactly the point that we have been making and that you all have been making; there is absolutely no difference in terms of intelligence, capacity and resourcefulness between a boy child and a girl child. I think for all of us the men, who have gone to school, we have all been beaten by girls several times in schools, so you would only be hiding your head in the sand if you were to suggest that girls were any less intelligent and resourceful than boys. In university, my first year, in fact the very first person to get a First Class in the Faculty of Law in the University of Lagos was actually a married woman with 4 children. Not only was she female, she was married with children. Thereafter, we have seen excellent examples of that. Only those who, for some reason or the other would want to deceive themselves, argue at all that there is any difference of any kind, especially in intelligence even in capacity. I think more importantly in our society, especially because there are all sorts of historical, cultural type of prejudices and discriminatory practises, we have almost come to accept that there is a difference between the way girls are treated and the way boys are treated. But I think that we are getting over that, especially with you young people, who are advocating even right from now, about the way that girls should be treated and equality of treatment. These days people argue about who is a feminist and not. I think it is something that shows the level of awareness there is all over the world today. I am really excited to see that you girls are advocating the rights of women and children and there is a great deal of work that can be done. But I would also like to see many of the young boys also advocating, especially the rights of girl. We had the unique opportunity of doing so when the Ministry of Women Affairs launched what was described as the 'He–For-She" campaign. I thought that was very creative. These are young men, boys, advocating girls' rights. That, I think, is one way of ensuring that there is understanding across board especially with young people as they grow up. So I am really glad to see you all and also to congratulate you today that has been set aside for the girl child. Of course as you know, we have had the unfortunate experience of having the Chibok girls abducted. Some of them have returned and are back home but there are still some who are out there and we are working every day to bring them back home. It is very important for us that those girls are returned because anyone who has either a friend or a child recognises that girls are more vulnerable than men especially when they have been abducted by men older and stronger than themselves and held in captivity for so long. But we want to be able to challenge men and people all over the world about these sorts of behaviour, and this is one of the reasons why we are advocating that this kind of conduct must be met with the greatest possible kind of objection and force. We shouldn't accept it, we should condemn it for the wrongful and cowardly act that it is, and do our best to give succour to the ladies who have suffered this particular injustice. As of today, those who have returned are studying; they have already started foundation courses at the AUN and we are happy to report that they are doing well, and are excited about the new opportunities that they have. They are starting their lives anew and afresh with a great deal of enthusiasm. We are hoping and praying that the rest will come back home soon. I am sure you are following Malala, the youngest Nobel Laureate in the world, also stood up for girls' rights in Pakistan and was even shot because she stood up for the rights of girls. But she is now in Oxford University, and I hear that this week is her first week at the Oxford University. There is a lot to be done and said for people who fight for the rights of girls and are interested in advocacy for girls. I hope that you are not just going to do it while you are in school, but will remain fervent and serious advocates for the rest of your lives. There are so many girls in various parts of Nigeria and various parts of the world, who don't have the opportunity you have of going to school. Your advocacy is very important, whenever you are on social media, the internet, talking about these things, and drawing attention to them. So I look forward to hearing from you again sometime soon and Blessing I hope this is only the beginning for you. Blessing, I hope you want to be a Lawyer? Yes? Excellent! Very good! Thank you very much. culled from MPNB Mr Olumide's Blog |

Pharmacist files N200m lawsuit against Evans' kidnap victim, Dunu | Mr Olumide's Blog Posted: 12 Oct 2017 02:42 AM PDT A Lagos-based pharmacist, Emeka Egbulugha, has commenced a N200m libel lawsuit against one of Evans' victims, Chief Donatus Dunu. Dunu, who is the Chief Executive Officer of a pharmaceutical company, Maydon Pharmaceutical Limited, had been kidnapped by Evans' gang on his way home in the evening of February 14, this year. The kidnappers had demanded a ransom of €1m from Dunu's family, threatening to kill him if the money was not provided. Dunu, upon regaining his freedom from the kidnappers' den eventually, accused one of the pharmacists in his company, Egbulugha, of having a hand in his ordeal. He claimed to have heard Egbulugha's voice on several occasions negotiating with the kidnappers when the pharmacist allegedly visited the kidnappers' hideout. On the strength of Dunu's allegation, the police on May 12, 2017 arrested Egbulugha and detained him for 40 days. Two other employees of Dunu's company, Kingsley Egbeonu and Tochukwu Nwosu, were also arrested and equally detained by the police. But the police eventually arrested Evans and his gang members on June 10, 2017. However, upon parading Egbulugha and the two other arrested employees before the kidnappers for identification, the kidnappers, according to Egbulugha, denied knowing the three employees, following which the police withdrew the charges they pressed against them before a magistrates' court. Egbulugha, a pharmacist of about seven years practice experience, claimed to have suffered a grave damage to his personal and professional reputation for the alleged false allegation levelled against him by his former boss, Dunu. EFCC traces N2.1bn to Patience’s dead mother’s account | Mr Olumide's Blog Posted: 12 Oct 2017 02:42 AM PDT The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has traced N2.114bn to the bank account of Magel Resort Limited, which was allegedly owned by Mrs. Patience Jonathan and her late mother, Mama Charity Oba. According to the EFCC, the total amount of money traced to Mrs. Jonathan is now N17bn. Patience, the wife of former President Goodluck Jonathan, had, last week, filed a N2bn fundamental human rights suit against the EFCC, accusing the anti-graft agency of subjecting her to psychological trauma, unnecessary persecution and going as far as freezing her late mother's accounts. However, an interim report of the EFCC, made available to The PUNCH, accused Mrs. Jonathan of perpetrating fraud through some of her non-governmental organisations. The report adds that at least N17bn, including funds from some government agencies, were paid into the accounts of Mrs. Jonathan's NGOs. The report states, "Another company owned by Mrs Jonathan is Magel Resort Ltd. It was incorporated by Mrs. Jonathan's late mother. But Patience Jonathan became the sole signatory to the account of the company by board resolution upon the demise of her mother. "Though registered as a resort agency, sources at the EFCC disclosed that the agency was probing the circumstances in which the firm secured over N200m IT contract from the National Information Technology Development Agency. "The contract was allegedly bankrolled through the National Information Technology Development Fund. Several other persons under investigation for money laundering by the anti-graft agency were discovered to have made payments into the company's account including a hotelier in Central Area, Abuja, who has been invited for questioning. culled from MPNB Mr Olumide's Blog |

Prof Sagay Replies APC: I’m Not Afraid of Losing My Position Posted: 12 Oct 2017 02:34 AM PDT A senior advocate of Nigeria, Prof. Itse Sagay, who's the Chairman, Presidential Advisory Committee Against Corruption (PACAC), has told the leadership of the ruling APC that he is not afraid of losing his job as the chairman of the advisory body to President Buhari. Sagay and the APC leadership have been engaged in battle of words following his allegation that the party leadership was associating with people who are very corrupt. In an exclusive interview with Daily Independent, Prof. Sagay who said he accepted the position from President Buhari because of his desire to serve the country and not for pecuniary gain, also said the John Odigie-Oyegun-led APC leadership is not comfortable with his utterances and actions because they felt threatened whenever he attacks corrupt politicians. "I have responded to all these allegations by saying I am not a 'come and chop' politician. So, they cannot say I was done any particular service by being appointed to this position or to say I was brought out of obscurity into prominence. "I accepted this position from President Buhari, a man I have tremendous respect for because I wish to serve, not because I have anything to gain. So, for anyone to say that the party, APC, got me there is totally wrong and pure rubbish. The party never got me there. The party was not in any way involved in my appointment. "It was the president who directly appointed me. That was why I told the APC leadership led by John Odigie-Oyegun that I am not a 'come and chop' politician like them. So, the question of losing a position can never arise in my life. "They are not happy with what I am saying or doing because they are very cozy with the corrupt members. They are encouraging them, aligning with them and enjoying a close relationship with them and they are pretending as if they don't know that those people have done anything or they are a danger to the future of the party. "That is why they are offended because definitely when I attacked those who are corrupt who the APC leadership is encouraging through their attitude, then indirectly, I am attacking them." culled from Olu famous Mr Olumide's Blog |
Over 50m Northerners Living In Poverty – Gov Shettima Posted: 12 Oct 2017 02:34 AM PDT Governor Kashim Shettima of Borno has disclosed that over 50 million Nigerians of northern extraction live in poverty. The governor also lamented that the region was faced with five most serious problems, which he enumerated to include; Low literacy, poverty, poor healthcare, unproductive population and bad economic position. Governor Shettima, who is the Chairman, Northern Governors' Forum, said he relied on recent research data released by experts, which indicated that of the 79.6 million Nigerians living in poverty, over 50 million of them, representing about 70 per cent, live in the 19 northern states of Nigeria. To this end, the governor entered into an MoU with General Electric, GE, to enhance healthcare delivery in all northern states. Signing the MoU in Abuja, yesterday, he noted that governors of the region were taking very determined steps to rewrite the northern story from different perspectives. He regretted that unproductive population in the North had resulted in lack of affordability for the most basic of healthcare services. "The Northern Governors Forum is committed to this partnership and we have supreme confidence in our selfless and versatile Malam Tanimu Yakubu Kurfi, who is heading the Northern Nigeria Global Economic Re-integration Programme which is the facilitator of today's partnership.'' culled from Olu famous Mr Olumide's Blog |

Kachikwu Also Got Contracts For 9 Firms, says NNPC Posted: 12 Oct 2017 02:04 AM PDT The war of integrity between Minister of State for Petroleum, Dr. Ibe Kachikwu and GMD of NNPC, Dr. Maikanti Baru got more intense on Wednesday. NNPC faulted the Minister's claim that he was not consulted on $10billion Crude Term Contracts. NNPC said Kachikwu made an input into the shortlisting of 40 off-takers for the Crude Term Contracts and that he even recommending seven companies, which were engaged. Also, he was said to have nominated two companies for the alleged Direct Sales, Direct Purchase (DSDP) transactions, which Kachikwu claimed were worth $5billion. NNPC said while the Minister was its GMD, he sent a memo to the Bureau of Public Procurement (BPP) seeking clarification on the status of the NNPC Tenders Board. NNPC's position is contained in a fact-sheet apparently prepared against the backdrop of the 6 posers raised by loyalists of Kachikwu for Baru. Besides the posers, Kachikwu had in an August 30 memo to President Buhari alleged that he was being sidelined by the GMD. When The Nation contacted a top source in the Ministry of Petroleum Resources, who is in the position to know, he said NNPC was lying. He said: "All of the above are lies. No official documentation backing this. This and possibly more to come are vain efforts to discredit Kachikwu and cover up the damning allegations he made." culled from Olu famous Mr Olumide's Blog |
