I knew Kachikwu’s Claims Couldn’t Be True – Tam David-West

Posted: 11 Oct 2017 03:34 AM PDT

A former Minister of Petroleum, Prof. Tam David-West, has described the response of the NNPC to the Minister of State for Petroleum, Ibe Kachikwu's allegation as a relief, saying it confirmed his thinking that the allegations could not have been true.

David-West, a friend of President Buhari, said he had refrained from commenting on NNPC for many years until he read the corporation's response to the minister's allegations.

Speaking with The Nation in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, he said Kachikwu's claims on $25b contracts could not have been true, given the strict rules guiding such at the NNPC.

He said: "On reading Kachikwu's letter, I was flabbergasted that something like that could ever happen. If it is the NNPC that I know, I can't believe that all those things could have happened. The rules of lifting oil are so strict that when I read his letter, I could not believe my eyes.

"To lift oil within Nigeria, you must be a corporate organisation or a country. If it is a corporate organisation, you must have a minimum of 20 staff and have a refinery. If it is a country, it must also have a refinery. The organisation must also submit audited financial report of three consecutive years and deposit a non-refundable fund of $1.5 million. This sum was originally levied in Naira but we changed it in 1984 when exchange rate was $1.5 to N1. But now, it has been reduced and this has brought more organisations into the business. In fact, about 40 organisations now lift Nigerian oil as if they are buying palm oil.

"With those strict conditions, it baffled me to read what Kachikwu wrote.

"Again, oil contracts are not discussed at either NNPC board meetings or Federal Executive Council meetings to avoid slowing down decision-making process. The corporation has its own tenders board though the basic rules have been updated over time. I was surprised that Kachikwu's letter was also leaked to the press because it was an embarrassment to the President. Definitely, something fundamental is wrong somewhere. The letter could not have been leaked by the Presidency because it was an embarrassment to the President. It could also not have been leaked by Maikanti Baru because it would have been an indictment on him.

"So, I was relieved on reading NNPC's response. It confirmed that things have not gone so bad as Kachikwu portrayed it in his letter. As a matter of fact, if the content of the letter were true, it would scare players in the oil industry away from Nigeria."

Dino Melaye says Buhari is Fixing Wrong People in Positions

Posted: 11 Oct 2017 02:59 AM PDT

Dino Melaye said President Buhari's selections were synonymous to someone wearing oversized shoes, adding that there were lots of nepotism in the President's appointments.

The senator, a chieftain of the ruling party, said, "Let me tell you, in this government, we have square pegs in round holes.

"You cannot give carpentry work to a tailor and you expect him to perform. We need to rejig the economy managers of this nation because you cannot give what you don't have.

Dino told Vanguard that, "Cabinet reshuffle has to do with the ministers. We have strategic positions in this country that is manned by wrong people; a coach is as good as members of his team.

"The President cannot be minister of petroleum, Minister of Internal Affairs but if he has good aides, the economy will move because these people will be working within their terrain.

"If a tailoring work is given to a carpenter, the output will be a beautiful nonsense. The president must rejig his appointments.

"The president should forget about politics and bring out people with vigour, better hands that will get the job done. Such people should be involved in the process irrespective of their party or tribes.

"The SGF misbehaved because he has never worked in any public service in his life before becoming the SGF. The SGF of a country is the manager of the entire process of Governance. A man that is not imbibed and indoctrinated in the act of civil administration or the rudiments of public administration, definitely he will misbehave.

"His appointment is synonymous to someone wearing an oversized shoe and this is applicable to other appointments in this government, there are a lot of nepotism in appointment in this government.

"Like I told you earlier, it's not all about party. Even the president is not an APC president but the president of the federal republic of Nigeria including the witches and wizards of this country. He is the president of everybody. Development process is national and no one should be partisan about it."

Nurses On Night Duty Gang-R*ped By Thugs

Posted: 11 Oct 2017 02:34 AM PDT

There was pandemonium on Monday at Isale-Osun area of Osogbo, Osun state capital when residents of the area discovered that some suspected thugs had allegedly invaded a private hospital in the area, identified as Atewogbeja Hospital Osogbo and r*ped the nurses on night duty.

The affected female nurses numbering six were said to have been s*xually assaulted in turn by the fierce looking thugs who were said to be armed with cutlasses and axes.

A resident of the area who resides beside the hospital told City Mirror that the ugly incident happened on Sunday, September 24, 2017 at around 12am.

The source, who did not want his name in print, disclosed that the leader of the thug had made several efforts to woo one of the nurses into a relationship but the nurse had been adamant.

He explained that "the thug had made several phone calls to the nurse but she was not picking his calls. So, he decided to check on her at the hospital where she is working. When the man (thug) got there, he met with the lady nurse but she bluffed him. This infuriated him and he made some phone calls to members of his gang to meet him at the hospital with weapons. This was around 11:30pm.

"Few minutes after he made this call, some fierce-looking suspected thugs besieged the hospital and r*ped the six nurses on night duty. After forcefully having their carnal knowledge, the thugs raided the hospital. They dispossessed patients of their money and phones including those of the nurses."

Unfortunately, the hospital did not have any security agent.
When the youths of Isale-Osun got wind of this development, they mobilised and mounted a search for the thugs who defiled the nurses. The youths took to the streets to protest.

There was tension in these areas as Police traffic Warden at Oba Oba fled on sighting the irate youths who had embarked on a rampage.

The youths, who are thugs, accused their rival thugs at Abowo in Oke Baale of committing the act, which the residents of Isale Osun termed "sacrilege."

Sources close to the State Criminal Investigation Burea (SCIB) confirmed arrest of some suspects already in connection with the clashes.

"This conspiracy and hypocrisy of the political class in this regard is terrible, the welfare and security of the people is at lowest ebb to say the least," said a peace advocate.

Nigerian Ladies Being Trafficked To Saudi Arabia... with some losing their organs

Posted: 11 Oct 2017 01:59 AM PDT

National Agency for Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons has said a "new dimension" of trafficking in the country is for syndicates and fake agents to traffic Nigerian girls to Saudi Arabia.
"The new dimensions which the crime of human trafficking has taken, include mass recruitment of young girls to Saudi Arabia by some agents under the guise of providing them with gainful employment. There is also the false recruitment of our youths by so-called sports agents, and the most frightening of it all, is to use them for organ harvesting."

NAPTIP Director General, Julie Okah-Donli, said this on Tuesday during an advocacy visit to Rivers and Bayelsa, noting that girls were trafficked en masse under the guise of fake employment opportunities, but they were eventually used for vices including organ harvesting.

Mrs. Okah-Donli, who also met with a former Minister of Labour, Chief Tonye Graham-Douglas, in Port Harcourt, urged stakeholders to partner the agency in tackling the menace of human trafficking.

Federal Govt. Plans Financing for Nigerians to Own New Cars

Posted: 11 Oct 2017 01:59 AM PDT

The Director-General of the National Automotive Design and Development Council, Jelani Aliyu, has said a fund will be established to be offered to Nigerians to finance commercial fleets and cars.

He said, "The programme is being re-designed to involve more Nigerian banks. It is expected that once this is launched, more Nigerians can afford more new cars and the provision in NAIDP to restrain import of used vehicles will be applied."

Aliyu, who identified important components of the new National Automotive Industry Development Plan, said the council was working to improve the goals of the policy.

He said this in a paper delivered at the Kaduna automotive fair and exhibition/stakeholders conference.

According to the DG, aside from the fiscal regime, which places a tariff of 35% plus a levy of 35% on fully built cars and 35% tariff on fully built-up commercial vehicles, other pillars of the NAIDP that will make it sustainable are the marketing programme, standard, human capital development, etc.

Aliyu said, "The development of automotive laboratories as provided for in the plant for safety tests is now at 70 per cent completion stage. There is the material test lab in Zaria, the component test lab in Enugu and the emission test lab in Lagos.

"With the level of achievement in assembly capacity, the council has increased its focus on developing capacity to produce components locally."

Police Arrests Man Allegedly Selling Guns, Bullets to Robbers

Posted: 11 Oct 2017 01:59 AM PDT

A 64-year-old man, Zebulus Chiekezie, from Umukegwu-Akokwa in the Ideato area of Imo State has been arrested by the Federal Special Anti-Robbery Squad (FSARS) for allegedly selling guns and bullets to notorious armed robbers in the state.

He was apprehended for being in unlawful possession of 4 single-barrelled guns, 61 live cartridges.

A police source told Southern City News that SARS Annex Commander in Akokwa, Banjoko Idahosa, an Assistant Superintendent of Police, led the operation that led to Chiekezie's arrest.

The source said, "We got intelligence information about his (Chiekezie's) criminal activities. He sells guns and cartridges to criminal elements within the Akokwa area.

"On storming his house, a search was conducted around his premises; four single-barrelled guns and 61 live cartridges were recovered. The guns have no licences."

The police source explained that the arrest of the man was a breakthrough for the state police command, especially for the Commissioner of Police, Mr. Chris Ezike, who created the SARS Annex to deal with criminal activities within the boundaries of Imo and Anambra states.

"This man is aiding and abating crimes in this part of the state. He has no licence to bear or sell arms."

But the suspect claimed he bought two of the guns in Calabar, Cross Rivers State, and pointed out that while one belonged to his father, he used the other one for hunting.

Though Chiekezie denied selling of bullets to criminals, he admitted that he did not screen the calibre of people he sold the bullets to.

Senator Who Accused IGP Of Fraud & S*xual Recklessness Charged To Court

Posted: 11 Oct 2017 01:34 AM PDT

The Federal Government has, through the Office of Attorney General of the Federation, filed two sets of charges against the Senator representing Bauchi Central Senatorial District, Isah Misau.

One of the two sets of charges, that is filed before the High Court of the FCT in Abuja, stemmed from the running battle between Misau and the Inspector-General of Police, Mr. Ibrahim Idris.

The prosecution preferred against Senator Misau, who's a retired Deputy Superintendent of Police, five counts of making "injurious falsehood" against IGP Idris and the Nigeria Police Force based on various allegations of corruption made by the senator.

Part of the allegations by Misau, considered injurious to the IGP and the Nigeria Police Force, was that police officers allegedly paid as much as N2.5m to get special promotion and posting through the Police Service Commission.

The senator also accused the IGP of diverting money meant for purchase of Armoured Personnel Carriers, Sport Utility Vehicles and other exotic cars.

Misau was also said to have falsely accused the IGP of making almost half of the mobile commanders in the country the people of his Nupe extraction.

The offences committed by the senator were said to be contrary to Section 393(1) of the Penal Code.

In another set of charges, the prosecution preferred seven counts of making and "uttering" false documents comprising affidavits, statutory declaration of age deposed to at FCT High Court and the Bauchi State Health Management Board Birth Certificate, which he allegedly submitted to the Independent National Electoral Commission in 2011 and 2014.

Looks like the days ahead will be rough for the Senator.

Female wonder bank operator defrauds customers, on the run

Posted: 11 Oct 2017 12:59 AM PDT

Traders at Warewa community, in the Obafemi Owode Local Government Area of Ogun State, have been defrauded by a woman operating a 'wonder bank', identified as Ngozi Adline.

Madam Ngozi, who hails from Imo State, allegedly swindled traders in the area of over N2m.

It was learnt that the woman operated under the name, Link M Investment Limited, while two workers, Oluwatoyin Adebayo and Esther Adelanwa, were used to collect money from customers.

According to Punch, her whereabouts had been shrouded in mystery since August 2016 when she fled the neighbourhood with the N2m collected from some residents of the area.

It was said that the middle-aged woman had also relocated from her residence in Ibafo, a neighbouring community, while her children were said to be living with her brother in Abuja.

One of the workers, Adebayo, said the fraud was reported at the Warewa Police Station, adding that she and her colleague were under pressure from the angry customers to refund their money.

She said, "We collected money for her (Adline) daily and weekly from customers. She promised to give those that wanted to save for three months five to 10 per cent interest. We started in April and everything went well, while our customers were satisfied.

"However, after about four months, we started having problems with the customers.

"The issue was that at the end of that month, she refused to bring money for disbursement to customers that needed loans and wanted to collect their savings with interest.

"Sometime in August 2016, she absconded with over N2m. We are the ones that the customers know; they don't really know her. So, we have been struggling to refund them. She has put us in trouble. She is from Imo State. Policemen followed us to her residence in Ibafo, where we were told that she had relocated.

"We learnt that she had earlier had problem over money with some residents and was arrested by policemen from the Ibafo Police Station. But she was later released. We spoke with her on the telephone until December 2016. Suddenly, we can no longer reach her on the line. We even pleaded with her to refund the money piecemeal, she refused. Some customers who saved N1,000 on a daily basis have not been refunded at all."

Adebayo explained that she had contacted Adline's brother, who lives in Abuja, on the telephone, but he said he did not know her whereabouts.

The other worker, Adelanwa, lamented that the police had not shown much commitment to tracking down the woman, saying about 60 customers were being owed.

"The woman ran away with more than N2m. Adline's phone number has not been going through. Customers are embarrassing us. We owe about 60 people. They have locked up the office," she said.

One of the creditors, Mrs. Amirat Salaudeen, who is into laundry services, stated that she saved between N1,000 and N2,000 at the firm on a daily basis.

"I started contributing sometime in April 2016. I paid between N1,000 and N2,000 daily, depending on the sales I made. I paid in for eight months. I have got only N50,000 out of my saving. I planned to use my saving to boost my business. It is painful and I am very disappointed," she added.

A pepper seller, Jubril Awalu, said he saved about N50,000 at the firm, noting that he also needed the money to boost his trade.

Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Abimbola Oyeyemi, said it was difficult for the police to track down the woman as her operation was not formal.

He said, "They should do private investigation on their own and find out where the woman is. Then, they can inform the police and she will be arrested. If the victims had paid her through a bank, we would track her through her account.

"The police have done the right thing by going to her house. We are not to blame and cannot perform magic to find the woman."

Kachikwu, Baru Meet In Abuja; Agree On Important Issues

Posted: 11 Oct 2017 12:59 AM PDT

The Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Dr. Ibe Kachikwu; and Group Managing Director, of the NNPC, Dr. Maikanti Baru, met on Tuesday for the first since their disagreement broke out and agreed on one thing – a petroleum industry regulator free from the vagaries of politics.

The two industry leaders met at a breakout session at the ongoing 23rd Nigerian Economic Summit and spoke on the controversial Petroleum Industry Bill.

Kachikwu said it was also important for the industry to have a minister who would not be very powerful as it was certain that no one would be a minister forever, adding that it was important that systems were built to drive the industry.

The minister moderated the panel discussion on energy at the breakout session of the summit alongside the NNPC GMD.

Baru, who spoke on the need for a strong independent regulator without any political interference, had an ally in Kachikwu, who agreed that an industry regulator should be insulated from politics.

The minister stated that the government was working to ensure an improved bill that would eventually be passed and meet the aspirations of stakeholders.

He said, "We are still working to make it better. By the time the Senate and the entire National Assembly finishes what they are doing, we are going to see a much stronger and a much larger independent regulator.

"Whatever model of the PIB that we are pushing, the point that Dr. Baru made is very, very key to see an independent regulator with very enormous powers, with less of political interference so that individuals can do their work and also whittling down the powers of the minister so that these institutions can work and work well.

"The reality is that no one will work as a minister forever. You are going to hand over that portfolio. We should be looking for the system surviving and being able to work well. So it's something that we are working with the National Assembly very hard on and I think if you look at the issues that come up, there is a lot of emphasis on that independence."

He added, "The Federal Government will develop policies that ensure that the global decline in fossil energy does not take Nigeria unawares. The government is already thinking in that direction. The Federal Government is currently dealing with the fundamentals of ensuring that the refineries work, and ensuring availability of energy sources to meet our day to day energy needs."

5 Good Things You Need To Know About Your Wife

Posted: 11 Oct 2017 12:29 AM PDT

Take a trip with me down Memory Lane. Remember what it was like when you first met your mate: what was your first date like? How about the second and third date?

My guess is you might describe the time as magical. Lost in your mate's words (and perhaps eyes), you talked for hours. You could not listen long enough. You could not learn enough about them.

My wife and I sat for hours that first night. I don't recall the exact nature of the conversation, but I remember that I didn't want to leave. The conversation flowed effortlessly and I promised to see her again soon to continue the conversation.

While those first few dates cannot be replicated exactly, we can continue the conversation. We can act as if there is an endless amount of conversing we could do — and there is!

We all long to be understood. We want our mate to take the time to really 'get us.' We want our mate to listen attentively to what we say, and of course, be impacted by it. This is, perhaps more than anything, what it means to be truly connected with one another.

I have worked with thousands of couples during my career, and many of them intensively since specializing in Marriage Counseling over the past ten years. Over the past several years I conducted an informal study about what women want their husbands to know. I'm sharing a few of those 'secrets' with you now:

First, care about and inquire as to what she thinks.
The Apostle James said it well: "My dear brothers and sisters, take note of this: Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry." Certainly this is true. Furthermore, men (and women) must care about and inquire as to what our mates think. What is important to them? Take an active interest in them and notice how they respond to that love and attention.

Second, see her as a separate individual.
Actively listening to her will lead to seeing our mate as an individual. They are not extensions of us. They are individuals, with differing feelings, thoughts and interests, and want to be seen accordingly. As you take the time to listen to your mate, value what they have to say. Honor their feedback and respond to that information.

Third, trust her.
Women are generally the ones who read about relationships. They buy and read books about marriage, scour the Internet for information, and push for intimacy and connection. Subsequently, they can be trusted when it comes to matters pertaining to marriage. They want to be trusted when they speak about needs of the marriage and family and typically deserve that respect.

Fourth, her distress is a cry for help.
Her distress is a cry for change and connection. When women speak, men need to listen. Failure to listen will lead to an ultimate closing of her heart and, once it is closed, may remain closed for a long time. Listen to her distress, including her anger, and consider what she is trying to tell you. If she didn't love you, she would not be upset with you.

Finally, sit with healthy remorse and truly apologize.
She needs to see and feel your care. She needs to know you are sorry for hurting her. She needs to hear 'I'm sorry,' and know you truly mean it. She needs you to sit with your remorse for as long as it takes for her heart to heal. She needs to see genuine change and repentance, and know those changes can be trusted.

Is Buhari Government Really Fighting Corruption?

Posted: 11 Oct 2017 12:29 AM PDT

written by Azuka Onwuka
President Muhammadu Buhari campaigned on the platform that he would crush corruption. It was portrayed that corruption was the nation's biggest problem, and if voted in, Buhari would deal a decisive death blow on corruption, exterminate it and set Nigeria on the path of growth and development.

It is generally agreed that the major part of Nigerian resources has been stolen by public servants, and that if such blatant stealing is stopped, there will be enough funds to fix and maintain Nigeria's decaying and moribund infrastructure.

Consequently, the quality of life of the Nigeria would improve.

With the election victory of Buhari in 2015, there was a feeling that corrupt people would run away to avoid prosecution. When Buhari was inaugurated on May 29, 2015 as President, everybody sat up, convinced that it would not be business as usual. There were indeed arrests.

However, months later, it was obvious that the fight against corruption by Buhari was not much different from what his predecessors like Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, Alhaji Umaru Yar'Adua, and Dr Goodluck Jonathan did. He is embarking on selective and tepid fight against corruption.

The problem with selective and tepid fight against corruption is that it is another form of corruption. Rather than make corrupt people feel remorseful, they simply feel that they are being victimised, while those on the side of the President feel like sacred cows that have the right to do whatever they like, knowing that no hard measures will be taken against them.

Last week's revelation by the Minister of State for Petroleum Reources, Dr Ibe Kachikwu, that the Group Managing Director of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, Dr Maikanti Baru, that he had been enduring humiliation and disrespect by Baru in the running of the NNPC, as Baru awarded contracts, including 25 billion-dollar contracts, without recourse to him or Board of the NNPC which he chairs, was mind-boggling.

Excerpts from Kachikwu's letter will suffice:

"Mr. President, yesterday like many other Nigerians, I resumed work confronted by many publications of massive changes within NNPC. Like the previous reorganizations and reposting done since Dr. Baru resumed as GMD, I was never given the opportunity before the announcements to discuss these appointments. This is so despite being Minister of State of Petroleum and Chairman NNPC Board.

"The Board of NNPC which you appointed and which has met every month since its inauguration and, which by the statues of NNPC is meant to review these planned appointments and postings, was never briefed. Members of the Board learned of these appointments from the pages of social media and the press release of NNPC.

"Indeed, in anticipation of vacancies that would arise from retiring senior executives of the NNPC, I wrote the GMD a letter requesting that we both have prior review of the proposed appointments. This was to enable me to present same to the Board or give an anticipatory approval and then review with the Board later (Appendix 1). I wrote to the GMD given previous happenstance of this nature; in addition, thereafter, I called the GMD to a private meeting where I discussed these issues. Needless to say that, not only did he not give my letter the courtesy of a reply, he proceeded to announce the appointments without consultation or Board concurrence."

A response signed by the Group General Manager, Group Public Affairs Division of NNPC, Mr Ndu Ughamadu, explained the nature of contracts involved and the rules governing the award of such contracts. The response noted that due process was followed by the GMD of NNPC in the award of all the contracts and called the allegations by Kachikwu "baseless."

While the nation awaits who is right or wrong on this matter, it is important to look at the lament of Kachikwu that as the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, a sector that gives Nigeria the bulk of money that sustains the nation, he did not have access to President Buhari and had to resort to writing a letter to him after enduring the insubordination and non-adherence to due process in the award of contracts.

The letter he wrote to the President on August 30 was not acknowledged or responded to by the President until the media got a copy of the letter and published it in early October, over a month after it was written and sent to the President's office.

Compare that to the position of the Nigerian Permanent Representative to the United Nations which became vacant since Prof Joy Ogwu retired. That position was only filled in May this year, over a year after. Similarly, since February 2016 when Dr Paul Orhii was removed as the Director General of the National Agency for Foods and Drug Administration and Control, no substantive DG has been appointed, leading to members of the agency embarking on a strike. Many issues have suffered a similar fate under the watch of Buhari.

It makes one wonder if President Buhari truly has the capacity to handle the demands of his office. And if he cannot, due to age or illness or any challenge, why does he not delegate many of these duties to ensure that national matters are not delayed?

The wall the President has around him as well as his extremely slow response to critical national issues encourages those under him to engage in acts of impunity and corruption. That is why many agencies and parastatals have been conducting underground recruitments and award of contracts since the coming into office of President Buhari. In spite of the uproar against these issues, the President usually does not say anything or take any action. This makes many to believe that those who engaged in these acts got his endorsement. These acts run against the President's campaign promise of fighting corruption and impunity.

This attitude to corruption perpetrated by those appointed or favoured by Buhari also played out on the accusation levelled against his Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Mr Babachir Lawal, over the award of contracts under the Presidential Initiative on the North-East. Rather than show righteous anger over the allegations against his SGF, the Presidency cleared the SGF, leading to an uproar in the nation.

Similarly, the discovery of huge amount of money by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission in an apartment in Ikoyi was not well handled. There was national outcry about the money and the need to disclose the owner of the money. The President suspended the DG of the National Intelligence Agency, Mr Ayodele Oke, and constituted a committee led by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo to investigate the matter. The Committee was scheduled to submit its report in May but the President was away on sick leave. However, since August when the report was submitted to the President, it has remained in the cooler as if it is not important enough.

There have been other matters which got different degrees of attention depending on who was involved. Senator Shehu Sani consequently described President Buhari's attitude towards corruption thus: "When it comes to fighting corruption in the National Assembly and the Judiciary and in the larger Nigerian sectors, the President uses insecticide, but when it comes to fighting corruption within the Presidency, they use deodorants."

Corruption has eaten the soul of Nigeria over the past five decades. Nigeria has literally been raped to the point of death by its leaders. That Nigeria is still alive is because of the tenacity of her citizens.

It is sad that after raising the hopes of Nigeria to fight corruption squarely and frontally, Buhari has shown that he is not different from his predecessors. No wonder, corruption is sneering at him.

The Nigerian President that will make a mark in the fight against corruption will be an energetic president who will close his eyes like the symbol of justice and fight corruption honestly and dispassionately, starting from himself, his close friends and associates. Once Nigerians see such a leader, they will happily stand behind him, and corrupt officials will lose their boldness and know that the honeymoon is over.

Robber Nabbed In Lagos After His Wife Warned Him To Stop

Posted: 11 Oct 2017 12:14 AM PDT

A criminal suspect called Pally-Young or P-Young by gang members has been arrested. His real name is Augustine Uchenna, he's a member of the 10 man gang arrested by the Decoy Team of Rapid Response Squad of the Lagos State Police Command.

Pally-Young, a father of seven and erstwhile "Danfo" driver was lured into robbery by the gang's leader, Isima, alias Cmans, himself, a danfo driver.

Pally's first operation was in Ayobo area of Lagos. Isima, as typical, had done the surveillance of the targets earlier in the day. At 10:00 p.m, they proceeded to the area and planned to hide in an uncompleted building before heading to their target. They were met by a guard, who subjected them to rigorous questioning that prompted them to run for cover.

That night, P-Young and two other members of the gang were arrested and had to spend 13 months behind bars. Only Isima escaped.

When he regained freedom his wife called him and warned him never to return to his vomit but days after his release, other gang members invited him to Isima's residence and hosted him.

Thereafter, the gang regrouped and planned another operation in Ayobo again. Isima did the survey of where they were to strike. On the D-day, they entered the street but the vigilante, sighted them. They were chased. While they ran helter-skelter, P-Young saw a church having a vigil, he entered it and was with them till morning.

According to P-Young, that very night, he made up his mind never to follow the gang on operations again. That was his second unsuccessful operation with the gang.

Feeling P-Young was bringing ill-luck, the gang connived to leave him out of subsequent operations.

Since February, 2017 when they stopped inviting him to operations, the rest of the gang had a field day in Ipaja and Ayobo axis robbing residents and taking away their property and cars.

Recently, the team was arrested by the Decoy Team of Rapid Response Squad in Lagos. Unfortunately, listed in the past exploits of the gang is P-Young.

He has been arrested and helping the police to shed more light on what he knows about the gang.

Oyo State Governor, Abiola Ajimobi on Tuesday reported Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Saliu Adetunji to President Muhammadu Buhari, following their lingering disagreements.

Ajimobi told State House reporters that he called the President's attention to the face-off between him and the monarch over the recently reviewed Olubadan Chieftaincy declaration.

He said he also called the President's attention to the fact that the crisis created by the review had been politicised, having been hijacked by a politician who is interested in his office.

The governor said he assured Pres. Buhari that although the Olubadan deserved to be deposed based on his actions, he would not remove him because of the father-son relationship between them.

Both parties are actually claiming right in the saga, we hope they make peace and move on.

What Does It Mean To Petition God?

Posted: 11 Oct 2017 12:14 AM PDT

Just as humans settle civil or legal injustices in the United States court systems, believers are able to petition God. One of God's greatest roles is that of Divine Judge. God is interested in knowing the specific details of our cases. Through mercy and divine favor, he uses unfathomable wisdom and mighty angels to work on behalf of our prayers and supplications.

There are many "court matters" we can petition our Father for...

But what is a petition? How do we make a petition to God?
First, let's begin with what a petition is: a is a formal request for something asked in a respectful and humble manner.

As Christians, we can enter God's heavenly courtroom make our requests. How one asks matters--we should ask respectfully and with a humble attitude.

In humble awe we can ask of God, knowing that if it's in His will, our requests will be answered. Unique circumstances, the right people, and opportune moments allow for honest petitions to be answered. Just remember, what we ask for usually occurs in His time, not ours.

Petition God with Thanksgiving
Psalm 100:4 tells us, "Enter his gates with thanksgiving, and his courts with praise! Give thanks to him, bless his name!"
Think back on your childhood. Remember asking Mom and Dad for toys? Ask you meandered through the toy aisle, you searched until you found the particular object of your desire. Barbie dolls. Books. Stuffed animals. It's not what you wanted, it's how you asked. A well-mannered child usually gets what they ask for. Even if they must wait patiently for it. Even as adults, we too must respectfully petition our Father for our needs and desires.

1. Petition God for Divine Favor
Is there a particular job you desire? Petition the King in detail for the exact job you want. Perhaps it's a gig which will allow you to be present when your child gets off the school bus. Maybe you've gained new skills while at an internship and you're ready to work honestly with your hands, doing the things which bring you joy. Know there is favor because you've FOUND the King. You can ask God for divine favor.
"For he whofinds me finds life And obtains favor from the LORD." (Proverbs 8:35).

2. Petition God With Respectful Argument
When we uncover our hearts and bare our souls to God, he is compassionate to hear us. Injustice may come from a person or even from the spiritual realm of evil. We can argue to God to restore justice for our lives. Christ considers what we ask of him. The key to asking of God is petitioning him with argument. Successful lawyers argue specific cases on behalf of their clients. Court matters. They provide judges with argument in order to "win" a particular matter. Our Heavenly Justice listens to our respectful arguments and decides accordingly.
O Lord, hear my plea for justice, listen to my cry for help. Pay attention to my prayer, for it comes from an honest heart. Declare me innocent, for you know those who do right (Psalm 17:1-2 NLT).

3. Petition God When Life Brings Hardship
We've all walked painful circumstances. Yet, surprisingly enough, it is distress which causes the deepest and most sincere prayers to fall from our afflicted hearts and tear-stained faces. Hardship can strengthen your walk with God. The raw prayers of Prophet Daniel awakened the heart and ears of God.
"So now, our God, listen to the prayer of Your servant and to his supplications, and for Your sake, O Lord, let Your face shine on Your desolate sanctuary." (Daniel 9:17).

4. Petition God for Hard Hearts
Humans are hard-of-heart for many reasons: painful upbringings. Abuse. Vanity and pride. You can ask God to extend mercy and grace for the unchurched. You can pray for a "Damascus Experience". Saul the Pharisee persecuted and killed many Christians during the early history of the church. But God and other believers witnessed a hard-hearted Saul transform into a tender-hearted Paul, the main writer of the New Testament. God saved Paul, who in turn, helped save many other Jews and Gentiles through the power of the Holy Spirit.
"Make Your face to shine upon Your servant; Save me in Your lovingkindness. (Psalm 31:16).
Replace "Your servant" with the name of a loved one or friend whose yet to fully surrender; replace "me" with "him or her".

God welcomes you to His courtroom
To petition God is to dialogue with the author and finisher of our faith, (see Hebrews 12:2). Times will come when the spirit of God living inside of you will nudge you into action. Know you may enter the Heavenly Courtroom to earnestly pray for family and friend.

Whether it be an injustice you've faced or heavy spiritual opposition from the enemy's camp, you have the ability and authority to ask a just and loving King for your needs. May you always know you can petition ALL matters in the Holy Courtroom of God for a verdict Christ can work out for your good.
"Therefore the LORD longs to be gracious to you, And therefore He waits on high to have compassion on you For the LORD is a God of justice; How blessed are all those who long for Him." (Isaiah 30:18).

4 Tips To Effectively Build A Business Brand

Posted: 11 Oct 2017 12:14 AM PDT

The importance of building a brand can not be overemphasized, it can be considered just as important as setting up the business itself. Jumia Travel shares 4 tips to help effectively build a business brand.

1. Define Your Brand
To build a great brand, you need to first define that brand, know what it means, what it stands for and what concept or idea you want to equate it with. To define your brand, you can start by writing down all characteristics that describe what you want the brand to be or represent, and the exact way you would like the brand to be perceived. Once you have the list, you can progressively fine-tune it to enhance your brand and make it stand out from competitors. In the end, the list should give a clear understanding of what your business is capable of doing, what it should be known for and how it should sell products and/or services without compromising its values.

2. Encourage Your Employees To Be Brand Ambassadors
There is no better way to build a brand than to have your employees as brand ambassadors. It is important for your employees to understand the business brand, know what it stands for and embody what the brand stands for. This is because your employees are likely going to be the ones having direct interactions with the customers or clients, and if these employees don't fully grasp what your business brand is about or what it represents, the customers or clients are unlikely to do so as well. As a business, be sure to keep your employees 'engaged and informed' about your business brand, train them to understand the business brand and encourage them to support the brand message in their interactions with customers or clients, and even in their interactions with each other. You can them reward them for acting in the brand's best interests by way of incentives.

3. Think of Your Brand as a Person
This will help significantly in brand communications and positioning. Thinking of your brand as a person will help to guide the methods and manner you communicate your brand to the general public, especially target customers. This is because seeing your brand as a person helps to give it a personality, and this personality will determine how your brand will behave in different situations. It also determines, based on that personality, how best to communicate with the general public, and helps develop beliefs, values and purposes that further define that brand and how it relates with the public and target customers.

4. Be Consistent
Consistency helps to reinforce the character of your brand. It makes your brand seem focused and less clumsy to the public, and further helps to clarify your offerings so customers know or have an idea of what exactly to expect from your business. Additionally, it helps to establish the authenticity of your brand and build trust in your brand. Creating a brand guide can help with brand consistency. A brand guide will help to establish guidelines for your brand and ultimately keep your entire business on the same page.

Ekweremadu's Proposed Single Term For Presidents [details]

Posted: 11 Oct 2017 12:14 AM PDT

To solve some of the leadership challenges facing the country, the deputy Senate President has proposed single term of five or six years for Presidents.

Dr Ike Ekweremadu advocated a single-term presidency for Nigeria and other African countries as a way of deepening democracy and good governance.

He spoke while delivering a lecture - 'Constitutionalism and the Challenges of Leadership in Africa: an Evaluation of Tested Models' on Tuesday.

According to NAN, the event was organised by the Centre for Media and Peace Initiatives, a New York-based international NGO to mark its 10th anniversary.

He said, "A more modest proposal seeks not the abandonment of the presidential system per se but the re-designing of term limits for political chief executives.

"This is in order to reduce the acrimonious conflict, divisiveness and instability arising from partisan or factional competition for executive offices in the federation.

"I support the proposals to transform the current tenure of two four-year terms into a single term of five or six years.

"Among other advertised benefits, single terms would avoid the distractions, manipulations and divisiveness of re-election campaigns while facilitating a more rapid circulation or rotation of power among the various groups."

A single term is less costly as it will reduce the cost of conducting general elections every four years.

Ekweremadu urged Nigeria and other African countries to learn from the failures and successes of older democracies, particularly, the Latin American democracies.

He said many of them transited from autocratic regimes to democracies, discovering that the politics of succession, including incumbents' penchant for self-perpetuation, was overheating the system.

As a solution, they adopted single term presidency until such a time their respective democracies matured and stabilised, he said.

"It is for this reason that the Senate Committee on the Review of the 1999 Constitution, which I chair, felt, in 2014, that a single term would serve the ends of our current democracy.

"Unfortunately, the recommendation failed because ethnic suspicions and parochial interests prevented reasonable and good faith evaluation of our worthy proposal," he said.

Ekweremadu also suggested a rotational presidency among the ethnic groups or geographical zones, saying it might prove reassuring to ethnic groups and promote loyalty to the nation.

According to him, the rotational presidency will reassure every constituent part that power will come their way at a given interval.
