6 Important Beach Safety Tips

Posted: 22 Jul 2017 02:56 AM PDT

A major reason why many people avoid the beach is because of the fear of drowning. But the truth is that there is nothing like a peaceful getaway at the beach. However, this can, unfortunately, turn to tragedy the minute when someone is in danger of drowning.

This is why it's essential to have these beach safety tips shared by Jumia Travel at your fingertips whenever you go to the beach.

Learn to swim
Learning how to swim can significantly reduce the risk of drowning. It will be nice to take swimming lessons before you go to the beach. It's better not to swim if you don't know how to swim.

Avoid drinking alcohol
Alcohol can make you tipsy and you can easily lose concentration. So, avoid downing alcohol before or during swimming, kayaking or boating. Wait until you finish swimming before you take alcohol.

Obey flag warnings
The flag warnings are not placed there for advert purposes. It signifies the depth of the water and also tells you the limit you can swim. Hence, going beyond that limit can be dangerous. By the way, do not just assume the meaning of the flag warning because their meanings may vary from one beach to another.

Don't swim alone
It is advisable you do not swim alone. Swimming together makes it possible to keep an eye out for each other.

Don't hyperventilate
Hyperventilate means to breathe at an abnormally rapid rate, so increasing the rate of loss of carbon dioxide. This said, if you want to swim, you should never hyperventilate before swimming or try to hold your breath for long periods of time. This can cause you to black out and drown.

Visit beaches that have lifeguards
Make it a point of duty to only visit beaches that have lifeguards whenever possible.

Buratai gives troops 40 days to capture Shekau dead or alive | Mr Olumide's Blog

Posted: 22 Jul 2017 02:28 AM PDT

The Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. Tukur Buratai, has directed Maj.-Gen. Ibrahim Attahiru, the Theatre Commander, Operation Lafiya Dole, Maiduguri, to capture Abubakar Shekau, self-styled leader of the Boko Haram sect, "dead or alive".

Buratai further directed the Theatre commander to do so within 40 days.

A statement issued by the Director, Army Public Relations, Brig.-Gen. Sani Usman, on Friday night, said that Attahiru should "employ all arsenal at the disposal of the Theatre Command to smoke out Shekau wherever he is hiding in Nigeria."

"The general public is please requested to also assist and volunteer information that would lead to the accomplishment of this task," Usman said.

Previous reports that the terrorists' leader had been killed in different operations have been rebuffed as he continued to churn out audio and video clips on the activities of the sect.

How I sneak out of prison to share robbery loot – Suspect | Mr Olumide's Blog

Posted: 22 Jul 2017 02:28 AM PDT

An inmate of Kaduna Prison, Bashir Ali has confessed to the police how he managed to sneak out of the prison for days just to collect his share from a robbery incident that took place in Kano.

Ali whose mother is from Tokyo, Japan, was arrested alongside some of his gang members .
At the police station, Ali who speaks impeccable English said it was greed that landed him in prison as he is from a good home
He told Saturday Sun
"I am an indigene of Kano State and my mother is from Tokyo. She came to Kano with her parents who were traders. In the process, she (Ali's mother) fell in love with my father and I am a proud product of that love. I am married and I have three kids. I have no reason to commit crime because I also have an option of travelling to Tokyo if I was not satisfied with my financial status in Nigeria."

On his journey to Kano Central prison, Karaumawa, Ali recalled that sometime in 2010, he got involved in a shady business, which led to the sale of a property in Kano that belongs to one of his friends.
We were arrested same year and charged to court. I was sentenced to seven years jail in 2015 after awaiting trial for two years."

The stunt

After several years, Ali claimed that he was able to convince the prison warders that he had truly repented of his sins and was ready to be rehabilitated.

According to him, eleven of them were selected and transferred to Kaduna rehabilitation prison popularly known as Open Camp.

"I was lucky that they selected me in 2015. When we got to the camp, I chose to be a farmer where I learnt how to cultivate vegetables including curry leaves and waterleaves. The proceeds you get from the farm will be saved for you so that when you finish your stay in the prison, you will have money to start a new life.
In that prison you are free to roam around and sneak in and out of the yard unnoticed. The rule was that you must come for head count every 10am, 12pm, 2am and 6pm. So if you don't want to get into trouble, wherever you go, you must return for head count."
He also alleged that the prison warders who were taking care of them were aware of these movements and normally keep tab on them.
"It is a game of trust. The warder must approve of your movement so that if you mistakenly fail to return on time, he will give you a number in absence. We all have phones and whenever you cannot make it back on time, you will call the warder and tell him. It is also your responsibility to ensure that the warder is well taken care of financially so that he can cover for you in case you want to travel and spend some days outside."

On his arrest, Ali lamented that while in Kano prison, he made a lot friends who have served out their jail terms. He collected most of their numbers and agreed to exchange ideas.

"It is good to make friends so that when they leave, they will help with money. Most of them who left went back to crime and normally send money to us.
"So while in Kaduna prison, one of them contacted me that they were broke and needed any means of making quick money. It was during the Ramadan fast and everyone needed money to celebrate after the fasting. I gave them some ideas and people to meet. At the end of the robbery operation, they cheated me and hid the physical cash that they got. Luckily, Bawa kept one of the cars for me. I then referred them to an ex-convict who is into buying stolen cars.
They were on their way to deliver the car and money when police caught them. They were so wicked that they did not alert me that they had been caught. Rather, they called to tell me that the car had been sold that I should come to Zaria and collect my share.
Plea for mercy
Begging for mercy, Ali said he had truly repented but was just looking for money to buy Sallah gifts for himself and the warders who were kind to him.
"I am finished; I can't believe that I am going to start all over again. Please help me and don't send me back to prison."
He alleged that his life will get worse if he is sent back to prison. "The prison will turn you into a criminal. It does not change anyone because an idle mind is the devil's workshop. Most especially, if you are from a poor home, no one will visit you or help you with money to hire a lawyer. There are so many people who stole chicken and goat that are in the prison. They are there because they could not afford the option of fine given by the magistrate.
"I assure you that by the time they spend a year or two serving their sentence they will steal a car as soon as they are released," he alleged.

My husband snatched my company, sold my property to marry our salesgirl – 45-year-old woman | Mr Olumide's Blog

Posted: 22 Jul 2017 01:58 AM PDT

Calista Offor, 45, has gone through hell in the hands of her ex-husband, 50-year-old Felix Oshai.Read the report from Punch below

Flanked by her only child, identified as Onyeka, 17, who suffers from autism, Calista's torturous journey to her present predicament began when her husband was allegedly deported from the prison in the US and he moved in with her.

Soon after, all she had worked for vanished before she could say, because according to her, he took over the company, took all she had and went away with the company's sales girl.

Following series of battery, his absence from home for about a year, his refusal to take care of the autistic girl and his alleged infidelity, which made her to contract venereal disease, a sexually transmitted disease, Calista filed for divorce in 2010, which an Ikeja High Court granted in 2016.

Since he left with "everything", Calista and her autistic daughter had been living from hand to mouth. With the support of Child Dignity Foundation and others, Onyeka now enjoys scholarship at a special school for people with her condition, but getting transport fare from Ipaja, where she lives with her mum, to school is usually a herculean task and so she's absent regularly. And this is after she had been out of school and therapy for four years due to lack of funds

A beautiful woman with confidence and good accent, Calista, in an emotive voice, explained that they met while both of them were in school but he travelled to the US while she went for the National Youth Service Corps programme.

She added, "I was 25 when we got married. I was under serious pressure to get married on time, and then he seemed to me as a good man; gentle, meek, intelligent, caring and I was intrigued by his ingenuity. If we had courted much, I would have seen that violent part of him."

She said it was not until they got married and she joined him in the US that she found out he was involved in nefarious activities. She also recalled that her experience with him in the US ranged from frustrating to ridiculous.
Calista, a graduate of Mass Communication, said, "In the US, we lived with his sister who later threw us out. We moved to an uncompleted building where we lived with all kinds of reptiles before we could raise money to rent an apartment. He confessed to me he was involved in credit card fraud and that he was released from jail to pay restitution. He couldn't pay up and they rearrested him. I needed to survive, so I got a job in a company. There, I had leg injury and I had to use crutches for some time.

"I was eight-months pregnant when he was rearrested and he was in jail when I had my baby, Onyeka. It was when my daughter was two months old that he was released, with the mandate that he must pay back that money. Onyeka became autistic when she was two years old. I had to sell my jewellery and native wear to raise money and survive.

"Given all the troubles, he suggested we should come back to Nigeria to start afresh but that I should go first so he could work some more and continue paying the restitution."

While she came back to Nigeria to start life afresh, Calista alleged that she never knew Felix went back to the same credit card fraud, which led to his arrest again before he was later deported.

But while Felix was allegedly languishing in cell in the US prior to his deportation, Calista accepted fate, took the N2m she had saved before travelling and established a company, called FELCAL International Ltd. in Mushin, Lagos.

She said FELCAL was an acronym of their names; Felix and Calista. She said the company which was into selling printing materials, got the sole distributorship for a top product in West Africa, making people from other countries to come to Nigeria to buy the product.

Providence smiled on her and the company began to flourish. When Felix returned from his sojourn, and failing to raise money to start anything, he joined his wife in the business, and they lived as a family.

But, according to her, running the company together was the beginning of the end to her happiness and that of her daughter.

She recalled, "At a point, he told me to stop coming to the office. I had to get a job in a consulting firm. I decided to build a career there and I was getting promotion as and when due. Then, he came again and said I should stop working in the firm, but I refused. I felt I was dreaming, but he beat me black and blue. I lost two of my teeth to that battery."

Unknown to Calista, more troubles lay ahead. She added, "It's by miracle that I'm alive. He was beating me, hitting my head against the wall and punching my breasts. There were times he would lock me inside the store in the house from morning till evening for me not to go to work. Knowing I'm asthmatic, he would seize my inhaler and beat me like drum.

"He would say the rate at which they were promoting me, I would soon become a boss and it would get into my head, so, in his words, he needed to stop me."

Eventually, Calista left the job and resorted to travelling abroad to buy things to sell, but that didn't change anything.

She said, "Despite the money he was making from the company he already hijacked from me, he was still stealing my money. He forced me to close my personal account and insisted that we run a joint account, which he cleaned up before he left.

He really dealt with me. He refused to take care of Onyeka because of her condition and he would even tell me I don't have a real child. I wouldn't know whether his attitude was because of Onyeka's condition. Whereas, autism runs in his family, because one of his siblings was autistic while one has an autistic child. So, he's even the one who has the problem.

"Due to beating and stress, I had two miscarriages respectively. Already, he was cheating on me. He would come back late and tell me not to sleep until he came back. He was very mean and would beat me at any opportunity. I noticed he stopped moving close to me, but I didn't know he had infected me with venereal disease. He was already treating himself but he never told me.

"I must tell you that the infection pains me more than the money he stole from me, because I'm still suffering from it as I'm talking to you."

Soon after Calista discovered she was infected with the disease, Felix moved out of the house, but not without leaving her empty.

She said, "He knew he was leaving and was already making plans, so he cleaned the joint account and forged my signature to sell two of my cars I bought in the company's name; Chrysler, a sport utility vehicle and a Mazda car. He also took the Honda Civic saloon car I was using to sustain myself and move my daughter. He's still making attempts to take over my property in Ajah. He connived with the lawyer to alter the document and told me to forget the property."

"Since he went with my last car, we now board public transport, and given my daughter's condition, she could be touching people and be acting funny in the bus, which some people find embarrassing. I learnt he gave the car to his new wife who used to be the company's salesgirl."

Interestingly, when Calista took the matter to court in 2010, the presiding judge, Justice (Mrs.) L.A.M. Folami, admitted several documents tendered by Calista.

Calista alleged that Justice Folami, in her judgment in June 2016, granted her ownership of the property, among other rulings. However, according to the judgment's Certified True Copy, sighted by our correspondent, Felix has ownership while a quarter of the property was given to the child (Onyeka).

This didn't go down well with Calista, who also alleged that the judge was silent about the ownership of the company.

But on the other hand, the obligations the court imposed on Felix had not been fulfilled till date, which from all indications, had hampered the well-being of the autistic child.

According to the CTC, Felix (the respondent) was directed to "pay the school fees of the child to university level and pay the medical bills of the child; the respondent shall pay the sum of N50,000 monthly (subject to review) for the upkeep and maintenance of the child; and a lump sum of N5m is awarded in favour of the petitioner (Calista) to be paid forthwith, among other issues."

But Calista said Felix had not done anything since the judgment was given in June 2016.

At the moment, Calista is facing another likely eviction as her rent would soon expire, with no hope of being able to raise a quarter of it.

She said the company makes money till date and that it operates three accounts, out of which only one of the banks made the statement of account available in court, "and which was in millions."

In spite of the judgment, Calista and her daughter have continued to live from hand to mouth, and at the mercy of well-wishers; the girl had been out of therapy, which is why she throws tantrums and eats her own hand, among other challenges. While on the other hand, Felix allegedly lives in affluence with the millions of naira in the company's account, domiciled in naira, US Dollars, British Pounds and Euros, according to the bank statements sighted by our correspondent.

Beyond these, he has also, allegedly, married the company's sales girl, Blessing Oshai, with whom he now has children and they live as a family.

But a child protection, development and advocacy organisation, Child Dignity Foundation, which intervened in the matter, followed the case and ensures that Calista does not sleep outside or go to bed hungry, has called on the state government to intervene in the matter and compel the girl's father to obey the court judgment and "act responsibly." Meanwhile, the man at the centre of the issue, Felix, in an interview with our correspondent on the phone on Thursday, claimed that the case was still in court. When reminded that judgment was delivered in June 2016, he said he had appealed the case.

"I can't say much because the matter is in Appeal Court," he said. But our correspondent was reliably informed that he only filed preliminary objection at the commencement of the original petition that his new wife, Blessing, should not be joined in the case in 2010, and it was after that objection that the matter was heard for six years and the judgment given in 2016.

What Are You Passionate About?

Posted: 22 Jul 2017 01:56 AM PDT

I think this post is going to be an exciting one to dive into! So I hope you have your printer ready, fingers geared up to screen shot, or your journal nearby to take a few notes, because this one will be thought-provoking and motivating. The whole point is to get you MOVING in God's direction! So what is it, sis? What are you passionate about?

Think about it for a sec and write it down.

Biblically, God was passionate for us when He sent His only begotten Son, Jesus Christ to save us from our sins to give us eternal life. Talk about PASSION! Remember, the #1 Blockbuster hit Passion of the Christ? Anyway, I think (and hope) you're getting the point.

Now…what gets you going in the morning (besides our Heavenly Father waking you up and the alarm clock - Oh, and maybe the coffee pot)? Do you get up anticipating your next move towards doing God's will for the day or this season? What do you feel a burden for? Has God shown you your purpose or given you a dream or vision for something? If so, are you working towards laying out the ideas as He gives them to you?

This may seem like a lot of questions, but these are the inquiries that will get you moving forward. Remember my motto, "Nothing happens until you start moving." So as you lay in bed, put off the important things that need to get done, or brainstorm for months, you won't see progress or success until you start moving.

Fact is - you can't move a parked car. You have to get motivated and start moving towards your passion, sis. If God stopped at just the idea of sending Jesus, we would still be lost and spiritually separated from Him forever. Thank God that idea didn't just sit there dormant. He is indeed a mover and a shaker!

So what are your ideas?

How are you working towards getting things done? What have you done so far? You see, God has the plans already. Our job is to be sensitive to the prompting and leading of the Holy Spirit. He will lead us to do the will of God.

And if you don't quite know what you're passionate about or your purpose, I always encourage women to pray about it. I believe God will reveal it in His perfect time. But in the meantime, keep growing closer to Him and stay passionate and on fire for Jesus! Keep shining bright in a dark world and do what you know to do. We all should be doing this part regardless of knowing or not knowing God's purpose.

Personally, I'm passionate about Jesus and my purpose! And I LOVE Mondays! The reason why is because it kicks off another week to move further in what God has called me to do. I look forward to seeing how He is moving and going to lead me to accomplish His tasks. I call them God-ordained assignments.

Remember, we can do nothing without Jesus as John 15:5 states. So ultimately, we have to make sure that our passion is His passion. And our plans are His plans. Amen!

Proverbs 16:3 says, "Commit to the Lord whatever you do, and he will establish your plans." Also, Proverbs 16:9 states, "In their hearts humans plan their course, but the Lord establishes their steps." In other words, lift up your work to the Lord and He will organize everything for you and order your steps. Don't try to do anything on your own.

Another thing I want to mention before I close this post is this. There is absolutely nothing wrong with being passionate about something. If you are lit up about something awesome, surround yourself with the Word of God and people who will encourage and motivate you to do what God has called you to do. Also understand that there will unfortunately be those around you who will not believe in what God has predestined you to do. Instead of staying hurt or upset about it, pray for them, and move forward as the Holy Spirit leads you.

As you move forward in faith, I encourage you to enjoy the companionship of those who will love and support you as you accomplish His plans. Remember, everyone will not always be excited about what God is doing in your life (biblical examples: Joseph, Nehemiah, Daniel, etc.) Let's not forget about Satan, nor the religious Pharisees who were NOT excited about what Jesus was about to do for us on Calvary. He had to press pass the opposition, adversity, ridicule, and pain to accomplish His Father's will. And so will you.

So again, what are you passionate about? Write it out today and get MOVING! ;-)

Remember, Jesus is coming back soon! And those who endure unto the end shall be saved. So let's be ready from the Inside Out!

Arms deals trial: I’ll face the consequences, says Dasuki | Mr Olumide's Blog

Posted: 22 Jul 2017 01:28 AM PDT

A former National Security Adviser (NSA), Mr. Sambo Dasuki, has disclosed why he did not consider absconding in spite of the pressure of him to do so after he was implicated in a $2.1 billion arms procurement deals.

He said he had to rebuff the pressure because he did not want to be a fugitive again.

He also denied being one of the military officers who arrested President Muhammadu Buhari in August 1985 when Buhari was removed as military head of state.

Dasuki made the disclosure in a book, An encounter with the Spymaster, written by Mallam Yushau Shuaib, the coordinator of PRNigeria, a military covert counter-insurgency media outfit.

The ex-NSA said:
"I can never be a fugitive after past Abacha's attempt on my life in the 1990s. I will remain in Nigeria and face any consequences."

I met Vera Sidika as a paid escort and she charged 500k- Ex-Nigerian boyfriend | Mr Olumide's Blog

Posted: 22 Jul 2017 01:28 AM PDT

Last month,Kenyan socialite,Vera Sidika took to social media to call out her ex boyfriend for being physically abusive and threatening her with death.

Now, Oriyomi has told his side of the story . He says their relationship kicked off after he sought her professional escort services.
He further revealed they had unprotected sex several times, and Vera who got pregnant afterwards aborted their baby without his consent claiming she suffered miscarriage.

Here's Heads Up report;
.
. "I met Vera for the first time in early September 2016. I contacted her about her services as an escort and she told me that she charges Kes 500,000. We spent five days together and later, we kept in touch. "We decided to start dating and things were all good until last November when I bumped into her phone only to find out she was chatting with clients from Nigeria and negotiating prices for her services. She also had pictures of herself with a Kenyan politician.
"Drama began in May when we had an argument and she went to Nigeria claiming she was going to abort my baby there. I begged her not to do it, but she went ahead. I was angry and I cut off communication with her. I was shocked when she later claimed she had suffered a miscarriage and that I beat her up. I know my truth and I have never laid my hands on Vera."
However reacting to Oriyomi's accusation, Vera Sidika denied being pregnant for the Nigerian businessman. According to her, she is on a five-year birth control procedure which puts the doubts of pregnancy away.
"My ex is obsessed with me and that is why he has not moved on. I have not aborted any child. I have an implant for five years, so I cannot get pregnant" she said.

5 Ways to Start a Love Contest with Your Spouse

Posted: 22 Jul 2017 12:31 AM PDT

My wife and I have a "contest" going between us. Please understand that we are not keeping score and the "winner" never gloats. Perhaps it's better to think of this as an understanding we have to enrich our marriage and rescue us from getting stuck in any kind of squabble.

Before I describe our "contest" I want to set the stage.

My wife Christie and I enjoy our marriage. More specifically, we enjoy the smile that happens internally when we are connected to each other, out-giving the other and showing special acts of grace. We bask in the glow of knowing we are loved by, and love, each other.

Conversely, we don't enjoy conflict that most often stems from selfishness. We don't relish "winning over the other," knowing that such action costs a great deal in the form of distance and tension. Perhaps you are like Christie and I, enjoying closeness and loving connection far more than being right, "winning", or silencing the other with our indomitable spirit.

To this end we decided we would always strive to be the first to apologize, admit wrong, and generally practice humility. We would seek opportunities to reach out to the other after a tense moment, a more protracted conflict, or time of tension. In short, we agreed to make an all-out effort to be at peace with one another.

Currently my wife is winning in our contest, as far as I'm concerned. She just made a phone call to me thanking me for helping her this morning. Her kindness brings that inner smile, that warmth of knowing I am loved and love.

Would you like to have such a contest in your marriage? Here are a few more suggestions:

First, make a goal of "forgiving first". Consider sitting down with your mate and agreeing to be intentional about quickly resolving matters and offering forgiveness routinely. Be quick to apologize and admit wrongdoing, focusing on yourself and your part in a matter. Be first to forgive and to reset after a time of tension.

Second, cultivate a heart of humility. Forgiveness and resetting come from a humble heart. Pride is the destroyer of connection whereas humility brings us together. Humility allows us to see our weaknesses and to seek help for them. Pride causes us to focus on the wrong of our mate.

Third, reset to a positive attitude. Resentment grows where we rehearse wrongs done to us. It is easy to slide into a bad attitude where resentment and bitterness take hold. Be quick to forgive and reset to a positive attitude. Guard against anger and narrow-mindedness.

Fourth, remember the good in your mate. See the best in your mate. Remember and notice what he/she does for you that is good and praiseworthy. Notice how they care about you and what you like about them. Cultivate a positive attitude and a view of your mate that is good.

Finally, dwell on the Word of God. The Word of God has the power to change our lives. "For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and intentions and attitudes of the heart." (Hebrews 4:12) If you want to change the direction of your marriage, practice these five steps, paying special attention to reading God's word and inviting God to change your heart.

Are you ready to offer your mate a friendly challenge? Determine that you will both be quick to offer apologies for wrongdoing and accepting apologies from your mate.

Nnamdi Kanu fights bail conditions: I want to attend rallies, grant press interviews | Mr Olumide's Blog

Posted: 21 Jul 2017 09:58 PM PDT

Leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, Mr. Namdi Kanu, has filed a motion to fight the bail conditions granted to him by the Federal High Court in Abuja.

Kanu asked the court, where he is being prosecuted along with others on treasonable felony charges, to vary the  conditions of the bail which it had granted him.

According to Punch,in his application filed on July 1, 2017, Kanu maintained that parts of the bail conditions prohibiting him from being seen in a crowd exceeding 10 persons, granting press interviews and holding or attending rallies, violated his constitutional rights.

In breach of the bail conditions being challenged by Kanu, the IPOB leader had granted press interviews and even recently led and addressed rallies of huge crowds against the holding of governorship election in Anambra State.

The trial has been adjourned until October 17.

The prosecution has yet to file its response to the motion.

In the wake of widespread criticism over its wax figure of the Beyonce, the wax-figure company issued a statement explaining the figure's appearance.

According to Madame Tussauds, a photo of the figure — which is currently on display in Madame Tussauds New York — that began making the social-media rounds Tuesday offers an inaccurate depiction of the figure due to factors beyond their control.

At  Tussauds, our talented team of sculptors take every effort to ensure we accurately color match all of our wax figures to the celebrity being depicted," a Madame Tussauds spokeswoman told TheWrap. "Lighting within the attraction combined with flash photography may distort and misrepresent the color of our wax figures which is something our sculptors are unable to account for at the production stage."
