Lagos Most Wanted Criminal Finally Arrested By IGP Squad Posted: 21 Mar 2018 03:21 AM PDT The Inspector-General of Police Intelligence Response Team (IRT) has arrested most wanted armed robber, 31-year-old Fashola, aka Awolowo, who has been on the wanted list of the police for a while. Awolowo has been wanted for offences of house-to-house robbery and road attacks in Lagos and neighbouring states. He was declared wanted after he was released from prison and formed a formidable, vicious gang. He was arrested alongside three other gang members. Speaking with journalists at the command headquarters in Ikeja, Lagos, Awolowo said he had given up crime and was about disposing of his weapons of destruction when he was arrested. According to him, he had met his mother and wife and confessed his criminal activities and his mother placed a curse on him that if he went for any more criminal activities, he would be arrested. He said: "I was a notorious criminal, I won't deny it, but I have repented. I have even robbed in front of Alakara Police Station, where my boy shot someone; I won't deny it. I am a strongman. I have been to prison three times. "I was released from prison through the help of my aunty. After my last release from prison, my wife reported me to my mother. My mother, who was furious, stripped herself naked and placed a curse on me that if I went for robbery I would be arrested, and I said 'Amen.' "To do away with the crime, I contacted a friend, who promised to buy my gun. I was taking the gun to him when the police arrested me. I swear by with my late father that I have stopped robbery. I used to rob people but I have stopped." Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Imohimi Edgal, who paraded the suspect and 20 others, said based on credible intelligence gathered on the activities of a gang of robbers that specialised in robbing motorists and passengers of their belongings and who were also involved in house-to-house robbery, men of the IRT based in Lagos State Command rounded up three persons, Fashola, aka Awolowo, 31, Oni, 28, and 26-year-old Oyeniyi. He said the suspects confessed that they were ex-convicts and a search conducted at their hideout at Sango, Ogun State, yielded two guns. culled from Olu famous Mr Olumide's Blog |
Herdsmen Saga: "No Alternative To Ranching" - Gov. Ortom Posted: 21 Mar 2018 02:51 AM PDT Benue State governor, Samuel Ortom has said that there is no alternative to the ranching law enacted by the Benue state government to regulate livestock business. According to Ortom, the ranching law was the collective decision of Benue people, stressing that he lacked the powers even as governor to reverse or make adjustments to it. He stated this in Makurdi, while briefing newsmen shortly after a meeting with the state and zonal leadership of Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria, MACBAN. He disclosed that MACBAN had requested for more time to enable them adjust and conform with the law while promising them that the law would be implemented with a human face and that was being done. Governor Ortom noted that while the law was being implemented, discussions between MACBAN and Benue State Government would continue with a view to fashioning out ways of ensuring peace between farmers and herdsmen in the state. He stated that the main objective of the meeting was the arrest and confiscation of some cattle in breach of the ranching law, saying the State Government had agreed to release the cattle to their owners after the payment of fines as stipulated by the law. North Central zonal chairman of MACBAN, Alhaji Danladi Chiroma said they were ready to obey the Open Grazing Prohibition and Ranches Establishment Law and to cooperate with the Benue State Government to expose criminal elements responsible for the current crisis. culled from Olu famous Mr Olumide's Blog |

Babcock Graduate Commits Suicide After Allegedly Killing His Girlfriend Posted: 21 Mar 2018 02:17 AM PDT A 30-year-old Nigerian man, Onoseta Oribhabor has reportedly killed himself after murdering his 27-year-old girlfriend, Essozinam "Martine" Assali, in Toronto, Canada. Oribhabor graduated from Babcock University, Ogun State, before leaving for Canada. Police characterize the case as a murder-suicide. According to The Star Toronto, the incident happened earlier this month. Police found Essozinam Assali suffering from obvious signs of trauma inside a North York condo apartment on March 6. Police had been called to the scene over reports of a man screaming on a balcony at the building on Graydon Dr., near Don Mills and York Mills Rds. Assali, a bilingual sustainability marketing intern who had studied at Seneca College and overseas at England's Oxford Brookes University, was treated for her injuries, but ultimately died. Police found her boyfriend, Onoseta Oribhabor of Edmonton, dead on the balcony. Investigators on Tuesday called the case a murder-suicide and listed Assali, affectionately called "Martine" by loved ones, as the victim of the city's 10th homicide in a total of 14 so far this year. Friends and family expressed their shock at the couple's death. "The last time I saw the them was in December at a wedding," said Chuks Andrew Okeleke, a childhood friend of Oribhabor who studied with him in Nigeria. "They seemed happy and they were dancing. He told me that he was planning on proposing to her." Okeleke said Oribhabor immigrated to Canada in 2013, and later helped him settle in the country. "Oribhabor was working in Alberta and visited his girlfriend in Toronto often. They met in the city at an event they both attended," Okeleke said, adding that the condo belonged to Assali. Okeleke contacted The Star after Oribhabor's parents called from Nigeria to say they hadn't heard from their son in more than a week. "They still don't know they are dead," Okeleke said. culled from Olu famous Mr Olumide's Blog |

DSS Abducts Married Man At Midnight In Lagos, Denies Whereabouts… Falana decries action Posted: 21 Mar 2018 01:31 AM PDT A trader, Mrs. Mariam Ajao, has raised the alarm after her husband, Moruf, was allegedly abducted by some operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS), Lagos State Command. Mariam said the security operatives stormed her family's residence in the Aguda, Surulere area around 1.30am on Tuesday, March 6, 2018. She explained that the men, who were dressed in black, scaled the fence of the house into the compound, adding that they were about to pull down the door with an ax when the family awoke. Mariam said her husband, a freight worker at the Apapa Port, was whisked away and she was given a wrong address after she ran after the officials' vehicles to know where they were taking Moruf to. She said since then, she had yet to see the 35-year-old Idofian, Kwara State indigene, even as DSS offices in Lagos and Abuja denied having him in custody. Mariam described the past two weeks without her husband as hell, saying her three children had been asking for their father. She said, "We were asleep when they came around 1.30am that day. They came in three vehicles which they parked outside the compound. "They had scaled the fence into the house and were about using an ax to break down the door when we woke up. I opened the door and they asked why I delayed in opening it. I said we didn't hear when they knocked. I asked what the problem was, but they didn't answer. They asked my husband if he was Moruf Ajao and he said yes. They took him outside and asked me to bring his clothes and phones. "My three little children had woken up and were trembling. I was also afraid. They said we should be calm. They didn't reply to all my enquiries. Except for their black shirts that had the inscription, 'DSS', they didn't show their ID cards. I ran and cried after their vehicles before they reluctantly gave me an address." The Punch learnt that when the family could not locate the address, they visited the DSS office on CMD Road, Magodo, Ikosi, Ketu. The officials reportedly did not give the family audience. Mariam said the family reported the case at the Lagos State Police Command, Ikeja, where the information was radioed to security agencies in the state. Moruf's name was reportedly traced to the DSS' office at Magodo. "We returned to the place. Because we had a paper from the police command headquarters, we were allowed into the facility. Immediately I got in, I saw one of those who took my husband away that night. But nobody gave any information about my husband. "I went back the following day with a lawmaker introduced to me by one of my husband's friends. We asked for one Mr. Wale, whom we learnt was their boss. The said Mr.Wale told us that my husband had been transferred to Abuja," she added. The lawmaker, who was said to be based in Abuja but had visited Lagos at the time, was said to have visited the agency's two offices in Abuja and was told the victim had not been transferred as claimed by Wale. Mariam, who wondered what her husband did wrong, said the family was distressed because the DSS had not said what happened to him. "Up till now, I have not been allowed to see or talk to him, not even on the telephone. Anytime I go to the DSS office at Magodo, they chase me away like a dog because I have become a nuisance to them. "My husband and I have been together for over 12 years now. I know him. He does not do shady deals. I cry every day. I can't answer my children's questions again," she said. A Lagos-based human rights lawyer, Femi Falana, whose law firm is handling the case, described the alleged action of the DSS as unconstitutional and illegal. Falana, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, called on Nigerians to condemn the act, which he said was unacceptable in a democratic society. He said, "The arrest is illegal; the abduction is illegal; the refusal to disclose his whereabouts to members of his family is illegal; and the refusal to allow them access to him is illegal. The entire action is alien to Section 6 of the Administration of Criminal Justice Law of Lagos State which stipulates that anybody who is arrested should be entitled to legal service and access to his family members. In fact, the security agency at their own cost, are supposed to contact his family members. "The practice of detaining Nigerians and holding them incommunicado is a thing of the past and cannot be justified under a government that claims to be following the tenets of a democratic society. No Nigerian can be detained in a place like Lagos or Abuja for more than 48 hours without a court order. This man has been detained beyond two weeks without access to his family and lawyers, which is highly reprehensible." The Punch observes that DSS does not have a spokesperson and hardly reacts to allegations of human rights abuses by its officials. culled from Olu famous Mr Olumide's Blog |
Cultists Who Cut Off A Corper's Hand Have Been Arrested Posted: 21 Mar 2018 01:01 AM PDT The Bayelsa State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of two suspected cultists who chopped off the hand of a corps member, Luntis Julius, using a machete. The cultists were said to have attacked Julius, who is from Taraba State, during an attack on a corpers' lodge in the Sagbama area of the state on Sunday. The Police Public Relations Officer, Bayelsa State Command, Mr. Asinim Butswat, gave the names of the arrested suspects as Mosan Youdougha, 22; and Godswill Vincent, 21. Butswat said a third suspect had also been caught but had yet to be handed over to the police, while the police were still on the trail of the fourth member of the gang. He said, "At about 12pm on Monday, the police, with the help of youths of Angalabiri community, arrested two persons involved in the attack and robbery of some persons at the corpers' lodge in the area. "The third person has not yet been turned in by the residents. Efforts are on to arrest the fourth suspect." The police said the cultists, during the Sunday mayhem which happened at about 2.30am, dispossessed the corps members of their belongings including a laptop and two mobile phones. According to The Punch, a corps member, who pleaded anonymity, had lamented the security problem in most of the corpers' lodges in the state, saying the security promised corps members was non-existent. "Most of the corpers' lodges are at the mercy of hoodlums and thieves. Female corps members are harassed on a daily basis," the corps member had said. Also, during a recent stakeholders' workshop organised by the National Youths Service Corps, the Coordinator of the NYSC in Bayelsa State, Mrs. Loto Bolade, had pleaded with employers to put facilities in place to address the issue of security and welfare of corps members. Meanwhile, the Bayelsa State Government has expressed concern that in spite of its efforts, moral decadence, drug abuse, cult activities and other social vices were on the rise among youngsters. The Commissioner for Information and Orientation in the state, Mr. Daniel Iworiso-Markson, made the observation when the Senior Pastor of Refined Peoples' Church, Pastor Daddy Ken, paid him a courtesy visit in his office at Information House, Ovom, Yenagoa. The commissioner said the situation had reached a worrisome level with primary school pupils being initiated into cult groups. culled from Olu famous Mr Olumide's Blog |
Newborn Twin Stranded In Lagos Hospital Over N1.5M Bill Posted: 21 Mar 2018 12:31 AM PDT Baby Ighodalo Oaikhena is struggling with life at the Inton Hospital, Ogba, Lagos, after his mother gave birth to a set of twins, 11 weeks less than the expected delivery date. While one of the twins died shortly after birth, Ighodalo, who weighed 1.1 kilogramme as of Friday, battled to survive through an incubator and other intensive care systems at the hospital. Doctors at the hospital gave the parents the assurance that the baby had 70 per cent chance to scale the hurdle after 10 weeks of treatment at the cost of N150,000 per week. Looking quite worried, the father of the baby, Samuel Oaikhena, complained to Punch about the burden of paying such heavy medical bills. He said, "My wife went into labour at 27 weeks on February 10 and she was rushed to the Ifako General Hospital, where she was delivered of twins. Unfortunately, we were unable to get incubator space as the available space had already been occupied. The babies were referred to Inton Hospital. "The hospital charged us N300,000 for the twins per week, but one of them died the following day. So, we are to pay N150,000 per week now and he will spend about 10 weeks there. That will cost over N1.5m. Our challenge is fund because there is nowhere I can get the money. I am just a company driver and my wife is a primary school teacher. I have been able to pay N220,000. "We have been running around to raise funds so that Ighodalo will survive. We got married last year and this is our first issue; we don't want to lose him. I want the public to help us so that the baby will survive. The hospital has been trying their best." According to World Health Organisation, about 15 million babies (on the average of one in 10 babies) are born preterm every year, while approximately one million children die yearly due to complications of preterm birth and inability to meet the attendant costs of treatment. Several causes adduced to the gestational deficiency included high blood pressure, being pregnant with twins or multiples, underweight/overweight, vaginal infections, smoking, psychological stress and problems with the uterus, cervix or placenta, among others. Also, Ighodalo's mum, Roseline, said that when she asked a doctor at the general hospital what could have led to the preterm birth, he had replied that her womb was not wide enough to take the twins. 27-year-old Roseline disclosed that the family had received a total donation of about N120,000 so far. A doctor at the Inton Hospital, Dr. Badejo Christopher, explained that the medical bill was high due to the specialised care required by the baby. He said Baby Ighodalo was being closely monitored by a consultant paediatrician with some level of improvement already recorded. He said, "The mother went into labour at 27 weeks as against 38/40 weeks. The twins were rushed here, but we could not save one of them, a girl. The boy has been inside an incubator and taking drugs. "An average birth weight is 2.5kg, but the baby's weight at presentation was 1.0kg. The challenges of managing preterm children are many. The drugs we use are very expensive because the children are susceptible to sepsis (infection). "One of the antibiotics is as expensive as N16,000. We charge N150,000 per week and the baby had spent 34 days today (Friday). We understand things are tough in the country now coupled with the fact that the parents were not expecting something like this. "We told them to make a deposit weekly to sustain the treatment, even if it is N20,000. The total bills will be calculated later. The child is improving and growing, though at slow rate. That does not mean he won't survive. He has 70 per cent of surviving. He now weighs 1.1kg. "We have started introducing formula feed gradually because he has been on oxygen from the day one. He is also under phototherapy to prevent jaundice." culled from Olu famous Mr Olumide's Blog |
Don't Reveal Only Saraki & Dogara's Salaries... What of Buhari & Osinbajo? Posted: 21 Mar 2018 12:11 AM PDT Presidential Advisory Committee on Anti-Corruption (PACAC) Chairman, Prof. Itse Sagay has been urged to include the salaries and allowances of President Muhammadu Buhari and Vice President Yemi Osinbajo whenever he carries out his threat to reveal the running cost of National Assembly leaders. Former presidential spokesman Dr. Doyin Okupe, who challenged the Prof. Sagay to unveil the details of the lawmakers' pay within 24 hours, said such revelation should be extended to ministers, special advisers to the President and other top government functionaries, including himself. In a statement yesterday in Abuja, Okupe said any further delay in carrying out the threat would adversely affect Sagay's credibility. The statement reads: "I find the threat by Prof. Sagay on allowances and running cost of the leadership of the National Assembly very interesting. It will aid our fight for transparency in public affairs. "However, he should not be selective. For us to take him seriously, he should include the details of the running costs of the Office of the President, Vice President, ministers, special advisers, heads of government agencies, parastatals and even himself." The one-time presidential spokesman said since salaries, allowances and running costs come from the same public coffers, laying the cards bare on the table for all to see will benefit the system. He advised the professor of Law to always weigh the possible consequences of his utterances in order not to heat up the polity, especially "at a volatile and tensed period as we have now in the country". Okupe challenged the Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) to list PACAC's achievements for the public to see. He urged the committee to reverse the Corruption Perception Index (CPI) rating recently released by Transparency International (TI). "Sagay should sit down with members of his committee to work seriously in developing position papers and policies that will actually help the anti-corruption war and make it more effective," Okupe advised. culled from Olu famous Mr Olumide's Blog |

Nigerians To Pay More For Electricity? Posted: 20 Mar 2018 11:04 AM PDT As consumers grapple with high electricity bills across the states, the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) yesterday, introduced a new policy that may worsen their plight. The latest regulation which came into effect on March 8, 2018 and will be enforced by the Commission from April 3, 2018, is aimed at providing standard rules to "encourage the development of independent and competitive meter services, eliminate estimated billing practices, attract private investment to the provision of metering services in NESI, and close the metering gap through accelerated meter roll out to enhance revenue in NES. According to NERC's Commissioner, Legal, Licensing and Compliance, Mr. Dafe Akpeneye, prepaid meters will soon flood the market with the licensing of 87 meter asset providers (MAPs).But those who will get the new meters under the new regulation will have to pay more. Akpeneye who spoke with newsmen in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, said MAPs will be independent providers who will be approved by NERC but contracted by the DisCos to bridge the metering gap. "They are to be saddled with the responsibility of providing meters and replacing faulty devices within 48 hours," he said. In Section 10 (5) of the new law, which contains the new provision, an analysis of the Meter Asset Provider Regulations 2018 (Regulation No NERC-R-112) shows that those who benefit under the new system will pay a monthly service charge. Under chapter IV, section 10 ("Rights of Distribution Licensees"), subsection 5, the regulation states: "The Distribution Licensees shall include a metering service charge as a clear item on the billing of its customers provided with meters under an MSA with MAPs and shall be separate from the energy charge. The metering service charge shall be based on the outcome of the procurement process for the MAP and subject to the approval of the Commission." culled from Olu famous Mr Olumide's Blog |
Notorious Criminals Kill Lagos Taxify Driver, Sell His Car For N350k Posted: 20 Mar 2018 10:38 AM PDT Two of the robbery suspects arrested by the operatives of Rapid Response Squad (RRS) of the Lagos State Police Command for killing a Taxify driver and snatching his vehicle have confessed that they formed their robbery gang in Kirikiri Prison. The suspects, Simon Tyozemda (27) from Benue State and Lucky Friday (24) from Delta State were arrested on Wednesday, 14th March, 2018 with two long knives inside a UBER operated cab, a Toyota Camry Saloon with the registration number APP 145 EE, which they had planned to kill its driver and steal. The gang leader, Simon had through his girlfriend's UBER app ordered a Taxi at past 11:00 p.m. last week. The suspects plan was to lure the driver of the Toyota Camry to a desolate location, kill the driver and take away his vehicle. The suspects were taking the driver to a lonely place on Lekki – Epe Expressway, Lagos, when their vehicle was stopped by RRS officers for a stop and search. The officers noticed one of the suspects seated at the back of the vehicle hiding a long knife. Investigations revealed that the suspect's intention was to divert the driver to a lonely place and snatch his Toyota Camry. Further police investigations revealed that the duo ex-convicts who were released between December 2017 and January, 2018, from Kirikiri had sometime in February, 2018, in a similar manner snatched a Taxify Toyota Corolla with the registration number, FST 663 EZ along Badore Road, Ajah at about 2:00 a.m. after killing its driver. The suspects had after snatching the Toyota Corolla, sold it to one Mohammed Usman for N350,000:00. Mohammed had only paid N100,000 and was to move the vehicle to Jigawa when RRS Decoy Team arrested him. According to Simon, an erstwhile security guard turned stylist in Badore "I met my colleague, Lucky Friday in Kirikiri Prison. We became friends and when I was released I gave him the number of my brother for him to call me. "When he was released, I promised him I was going to assist him to resettle properly. Since then, we have been working and operating together. "Our first operation was where we killed the driver of the Toyota Corrolla. He was a Taxify driver. I stabbed the guy in the stomach twice and I dropped him off the vehicle on the road in Badore, Ajah at after 2:00 a.m. We threw away the knives and bought new ones for the fresh operation we were arrested for", he added. He continued, "before killing him, I placed the order to Taxify cab to pick us up at Lambasa, Lekki at past 11:00 p.m. Our destination was Abraham Adesanya Estate but we needed a desolate location to snatch the vehicle from the driver. It was the same business that took me to kirikiri prison. I was introduced into it by Michael. Unfortunately for me, I was arrested while Michael escaped. I spent four months behind bar. It is sad I'm being arrested again over the same business". Also arrested along with the suspects were the middle man who introduced the gang to the buyer of the Toyota Corolla, John Thankgod (25) and the buyer of the car, Mohammed Usman (41). The vehicle was about to be taken to Jigawa State the following day RRS Decoy team arrested the suspects. Further investigations revealed that the Taxify driver, Godfrey Ovie's remains was dropped in Badore by the suspects, where it was discovered the following day by the police. Items recovered from the suspects included Toyota Corrolla, two long kitchen knives and wrapped item suspected to weed. culled from Olu famous Mr Olumide's Blog |

Buhari Meets Former VP Sambo In Aso Rock Posted: 20 Mar 2018 06:33 AM PDT President Muhammadu Buhari on Tuesday met behind closed doors with former Vice-President Namadi Sambo at the Presidential Villa, Abuja. Sambo was vice-president to former President Goodluck Jonathan during the last administration. The meeting of the two leaders, which was held inside the President's office, lasted about 25 minutes. The former vice-president arrived the Presidential Villa at about 12:00 noon and went straight into the President's office. He left the premises at about 12.25pm. "It was a a private meeting," Sambo simply told State House correspondents before stepping into his waiting car. Sambo has not been a regular visitor to the Presidential Villa since he and Jonathan left office on May 29, 2015 He had, in 2017, visited Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo in his office; while he also joined Buhari for a Jumat service in commemoration of the nation's independence last year. The meeting of the two leaders came barely 24 hours after Osinbajo openly accused the administration Sambo served of "grand corruption." Speaking at the Seventh Presidential Quarterly Business Forum for Private Sector stakeholders on Monday, Osinbajo had said the difference between the present administration and that of Jonathan was that Buhari's administration was not corrupt. He had said, "Today, with less revenue, we have increased capital funding by 400 percent as the minister has said, in power, works and housing, in defence, transportation, agriculture. "If we want to do analysis in Nigeria, it is either fraudulent or ignorant if we do not bring money that belongs to corruption into the mass. "This is what distinguishes, in my own respectful view, this administration from the other. I can say that with what I have seen, if you have a President who is not corrupt, 50 percent of your financial problems are over. This is what I have seen, I can demonstrate it with facts and figures..." culled from Olu famous Mr Olumide's Blog |
