U.S based Nigerian couple ordered to pay nanny N44m | Mr Olumide's Blog Posted: 06 Jan 2018 03:51 AM PST The Nsobundus, the Nigerian couple living in the Houston-area of the United States has been ordered by an American court to pay $121,000 as restitution to the Nigerian woman who worked for 20 hours a day for two years as the nanny to their five children. The nanny was not paid throughout the period. Now she has a N44m windfall. Chudy Nsobundu, 57, and his wife Sandra Nsobundu, 49, also were sentenced by U.S. District Judge Nancy Atlas to seven months in jail and seven months of home confinement, plus three years on probation, the Associated Press reported. The naturalized U.S. citizens originally from Nigeria recruited the woman there with the promise of a $100 monthly wage. Instead, authorities said they abused her physically and verbally while she worked at their home in the Houston suburb of Katy from September 2013 to October 2015. Chudy Nsobundu in 2016 pleaded guilty to visa fraud while his wife pleaded guilty to unlawful conduct with respect to documents in furtherance of forced labor. According to court documents, the nanny would work every day from 5:30 a.m. to 1 a.m., couldn't take breaks and had to eat leftovers and not fresh food, including being forced to only drink milk left in bowls in which the children had eaten cereal. She also couldn't take hot showers. Authorities said the Nsobundus prevented the nanny from leaving their employment by keeping her passport and by threatening her with physical and mental abuse. The nanny reached out for help and was rescued following a tip to the National Human Trafficking Resource Center. Her name has not been released. Prosecutors say the couple knowingly caused a false visa application for the victim to be submitted to the Department of State with numerous pieces of false information. The woman's date of birth was incorrect on the application, listing her 20 years older than she was, said she was married when she was not, incorrectly indicated the purpose of her travel was to attend a niece's graduation and falsely identified her in a letter that Chudy Nsobundu was her brother. Prosecutors also said he made false representations under oath on the visa application to increase the chances that the application would be accepted and to hide the fact she'd be working for his family as a housemaid and nanny under conditions that violated U.S. labor laws. Federal prosecutors said Sandra Nsobundu took the nanny to the U.S. Embassy in Lagos, Nigeria, to obtain her visa and provided her with a letter indicating she didn't speak English well, that she was to attend a family graduation and gave her a picture of her husband with instructions that she tell embassy officials he was the nanny's brother and that she was married. The nanny's husband listed on the visa application actually was the Nsobundus' driver in Nigeria. NAN culled from MPNB Mr Olumide's Blog |

12 Things Buhari Should Do In 2018 Posted: 06 Jan 2018 03:10 AM PST With a loaded plate, President Muhammadu Buhari certainly has his hands full. But what are some of the most pressing issues the president needs to resolve? Daily Trust gives you some. President Muhammadu Buhari is getting close to three years in office. His achievements in office are already being examined by admirers and supporters, as well as critics and political adversaries. Although the Daura-born politician intends to be measured by his performance in three key areas (the war against corruption, the fight against insecurity, and the drive to revive the economy), we present to you twelve things he must achieve this year. 1. Finish the Boko Haram war Though President Buhari has received accolades in the war against the insurgents in the north-east geo-political zone, he must strive to end the Boko Haram war this year. It's great news to hear that the troops of Operation Lafiya Dole rescued over 2,000 civilians and neutralised Boko Haram insurgents in droves during its operation at Lake Chad Island this week, according to the Theatre Commander, Major General Rogers Nicholas. But ending the war would make Nigerians fully appreciate the government, as pockets of suicide bombings being recorded recently are a blight on the anti-insurgency operation. Retired Col. Aminu Isah Kontagora, in an interview with Daily Trust, said: "There is a lot of work to be done; be it political, economic and social, to get to the ultimate destination of peace." He said the current situation required not only the military role, but also the support of the general public. 2. Resettle IDPS Though Mr. President has established the Presidential Committee on the North East Initiative (PCNI), under the chairmanship of retired General T.Y. Danjuma, a lot still needs to be done to address the challenges being faced by the internally displaced persons (IDPs). Alhaji Tijjani Tumsah, Vice Chairman of the PCNI, said recently in Abuja during the monthly Coordination meeting of members of the PCNI and development partners that the needs of displaced persons in camps and host communities, especially in the areas of health and food security, were being tackled. Tumsah, represented by Brig.-Gen. Habila Vintenaba, Chairman, PCNI's subcommittee on Peace Building, Security and Stabilization, said that in the areas of shelter and protection, there was an intervention to ensure that the tripartite agreement between Cameroon and Nigeria for the protection, voluntary and safe return of Nigerian refugees in Cameroon was upheld. He said that a lot of interventions were on-going in the health, agriculture, infrastructure, energy, economic recovery, housing and transportation sectors. He said that the Committee would also receive updates on the development and funding plans for the 2018 Humanitarian Response Plan (HRP). Though it is good that there is an on-going effort to address the plight of the IDPs, the lasting solution is for Buhari to resettle the IDPs, and give them at least a semblance of home. 3. Increase tempo and conviction rate of anti-corruption war The war against corruption will not be deemed successful until people begin to see successful prosecution of people who are involved in high-profile cases. There have been various reports of arrest of prominent personalities but with no conviction. The cases have continued to move slowly in various courts. If Buhari is to receive a pat on the back, he must ensure that the Presidential Advisory Committee on Anti-Corruption (PACAC) led by Professor Itse Sagay redoubles efforts, by giving the right advice to ensure accelerated conviction of the corrupt persons. In July 2017, Sagay said senior lawyers had "turned obstruction and frustration of proceedings on high-profile corruption cases into an art." He, therefore, advised that the Senior Advocates of Nigeria (SANs) in question should be barred from the court hearings of such cases. He advised the prosecuting counsels in high-profile corruption cases to always apply to reinstate any case struck out for want of prosecution as part of the solution to the problem. Being one of the things Buhari is known for, the anti-corruption war should be tackled head-on, decisively, and with visible results. 4. Find a lasting solution to herders/farmers clashes The persistent clashes between farmers and herders must be given due attention this year. The fact that the regular crisis has been given an ethnic colouration makes it very important for the federal government to find a lasting solution. The Anti-Open Grazing Bill, which has been enacted in Benue and Ekiti states, seems not to have served its purpose because of the politicization of the motive behind the law. The recent killing of dozens of farmers, allegedly by herdsmen, in some communities in Guma and Logo LGAs of Benue State, which forced many to flee their homes, has made it imperative for the federal government to expedite action, and pursue the best system that will solve it once and for all. The Inspector-General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, who spoke on the killings in Benue State after a closed-door meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari, described the incident as a "communal crisis". 5. Appreciably improve power supply President Buhari must find a lasting and reliable resolution to the problem of epileptic power supply in the country, to win the trust and confidence of consumers. The work of the electricity Distribution Companies (DisCos) must be thoroughly monitored to avoid a situation whereby the consumers will be marginalized unduly through unjustified estimated billing. Efforts must be made to prevent the kind of incident that happened last Tuesday, which led to the collapse of Nigeria's power transmission grid, resulting to widespread blackout across the nation. Needless to say, the industrialization of the nation, and the growth of businesses at various levels, depend on this. 6. Avoid another nation-wide fuel scarcity The federal government must ensure that the fuel scarcity witnessed across the country towards the end of 2017 does not happen in 2018. The scarcity of fuel has always created hardship for the citizenry over the years. Nigerians passed through similar experience under the past PDP-led administration. Any solution to the perennial shortage of fuel must be considered. That is why the three solutions provided by Minister of State, Petroleum, Ibe Kachikwu, must be thoroughly considered to prevent any decision that may worsen the plight of the masses. Kachikwu had said at the public hearing convened on Thursday by the National Assembly that the final solution to the problem was for the nation to put her refineries in good shape in a way that 80 per cent of local consumption of the product should be provided for locally. Kachikwu said: "One, is for the Central bank of Nigeria (CBN) to allow the marketers access forex at the rate of N204 to a dollar as against the official rate of N305 to keep the pump price of fuel per litre at N145. Two, to give room for modulated deregulation where NNPC would be allowed to continue selling at N145 per litre in all its mega stations across the country, while the independent marketers should be allowed to sell at whatever price is profitable to them. Three, to look at the direction of blanket subsidy for all the importers in bridging the gap which would be like going back to a problem that had earlier been solved." 7. Make significant progress in repairing federal roads and improving rail lines Many federal roads across the country are in bad condition. The federal government must ensure that all federal roads with budgetary allocations are executed in 2018. The current effort to re-launch the rail system of transportation must be given the needed impetus. Already, Nigerians have started enjoying the rail system from Abuja to Kaduna. This was boosted on Thursday by President Buhari with the commissioning of two locomotives and 10 executive passenger coaches procured by the Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) to be deployed on the Abuja-Kaduna train service. The Abuja-Kaduna train line service was previously commissioned in July 2016 by President Buhari. It currently runs four trips per day and transports about 1280 passengers daily to and from Abuja and Kaduna. He said the government would further focus on coastal rail from Lagos-Calabar with branches to Benin, Agbor, and Onitsha to Port Harcourt. He also said another standard gauge line will be built from Port Harcourt to Maiduguri with branches to Owerri, Akwa, Abakaliki, Makurdi, Yola, and Damaturu. The federal government will also focus on Kano-Kazaure, Daura, Katsina, Jibiya to link to Maradi in the Niger Republic as part of regional railway inter-connectivity of the ECOWAS sub-region, he said. Buhari said the concession for the narrow gauge to General Electric should be completed this year even as he said the railway laws will be amended and regulations strengthened to attract private sector investments into the rail sector. 8. Avoid scandals and mishaps President Buhari must ensure that the kind of controversy that trailed the appointment of dead Nigerians into the boards of federal ministries, departments and agencies is avoided in 2018. This requires competence and professionalism on the path of officials handling the appointments and other similar issues in the presidency. 9. End internal rifts in government Mr. President must ensure that the internal wrangling among his officials is sorted out early enough before it gets out of hand. The public show of wit between the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Kachikwu and Group General Manager, NNPC, Mr Maikanti Baru, as well as the one between the Director-General of Department of State Service (DSS) and the acting chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) remains an embarrassment to the Buhari-led administration. The scenario must be solved, for a hitch-free 2018, and for the sakes of some earlier-mentioned points. 10. Revitalise the APC President Buhari must ensure that he shows more interest in the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) as the leader of the party. His seemingly lukewarm attitude towards the party won't assist his administration as it portrays him as a personality with little knowledge of party administration. At some point, the ruling party could not even pay their electricity bill, a development that shows that the presidency is not taking proper care of the party. The financial fortune of the party improved after the introduction of a monthly meeting with the party's governors. 11. Woo back South-west APC and powerful chieftain Tinubu The south-west APC will surely play a significant role if Mr President will secure the party's presidential ticket and win again in 2019. Therefore, he has to get the support of the region, including the party's national leader, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu. The current indication shows that the president might have got the support of the south-west with the recent defection of key political figures in Oyo State to the APC. This is seen as prelude to other defections in other states in the south-west apparently to support the re-election of President Buhari. More needs to be done. 12. Win APC's presidential nomination President Buhari has to ensure that he secured the presidential ticket of the APC this year. Already, most leaders of the ruling party have been passing a vote of confidence on Buhari. Engr. Segun Oni, who is the Deputy National Chairman of the ruling APC, said in an interview with Daily Trust that God has endorsed Buhari for 2019. Asked to speak his mind on whether President Buhari could still get the party ticket and go ahead to win the 2019 presidential election, Oni said, "This is my personal opinion. And I have said it once. The way the president was able to overcome his health challenge is a miracle. And the time that was done, as far as I'm concerned, is like an endorsement of God. So, if he wants to run, I'm sure a lot of people will see him as already God-endorsed for the job again." culled from Olu famous Mr Olumide's Blog |
Abomination: Man Impregnates His Wife's Mother Posted: 06 Jan 2018 02:40 AM PST A married lady, Victoria Ulaha is in a dilemma. If it were possible, she would turn back the hands of time and wish all that happened to her never did. This native of Keana Local Government Area of Nasarawa State, is married to John Ulaha, 45, of Awe Local Government Area of the same state, a farmer and carpenter in Lafia. Both husband and wife are in agony as you read this. The problem is that in sowing his wild oats, John Ulaha impregnated another woman. What makes his act so obnoxious? The woman in question is his mother-in-law! Right now, his wife is in a great fix as to what to do about the ugly and shameful development. Victoria, blessed with a daughter, lives in Lafia where she manages a provision store while her husband runs a carpentry workshop. But by way of augmenting their incomes, they are heavily involved in farming activities in Awe, where they hire labourers to work on their farms. Inviting trouble in an innocuous way After the implementation of anti-grazing law in Benue State pushed over 85% of Fulani herdsmen from Benue to settle in Awe, they started destroying, at an alarming rate, farmlands belonging to others. This situation made Victoria to invite her mother who is a widow to come over and help her husband harvest their farm produce of yam and guinea corn since she was very busy with her shop business in Lafia. In the course of time, sometime in mid-September 2017, John and his mother-in-law, Mrs. Ashetu Igbasue, 42, relocated to Awe in order to fast-track their harvesting. Three months into the pair's sojourn, the bubble burst and Victoria found a big scandal on her hand when her mother came reporting dejectedly that she was pregnant. For whom? Her daughter's husband! "I'm distressed, I don't know how to handle this matter," Victoria told Saturday Sun as she threw her hand helplessly into the air. "I got married to my husband nine years ago. The marriage is blessed with a baby girl and my mother used to come around to spend some time with us especially when she lost her husband. "But this time around, I personally requested that she should come and help us do some work on the farm. Since then she had been in the village with my husband helping on the farm, though both of them used to come to Lafia regularly to pick supplies and go back because they were determined to evacuate all crops from the farm to the house before herdsmen could come to destroy them. "There was a time my husband came to Lafia to get some cooking ingredients and I asked him whether they were feeding well. He told me lightheartedly that my mother's cooking was more delicious than mine. I did not suspect anything bad. I believed my husband. And, moreover, the woman in question is my mother, not a rival." The disastrous deed "The last time my mother came to Lafia from my husband's village, she shockingly told me that she did not see her period for the first and second month running which implies that she is pregnant and said that my husband is responsible for it. She said she wants it aborted because it would be a shameful thing for her to be pregnant at her age when her husband is not alive. "I invited her to come and assist me to take care of our farm work since Fulani people have been destroying it, but I did not know that my husband had established a love relationship with her. She confessed to me that my husband was responsible for her pregnancy." Expressing her disappointment at her husband's behaviour, Victoria remarked: "It would have been better for him to get a second wife who will be stationed at home or even look for a girlfriend to satisfy him in my absence rather than going into a love affair with my own mother; it is a very shameful thing and an abomination of the highest order; it is wrong." Victoria who said she is ashamed and rattled by the development, promised to take proper action after she recovers from the shock. But for now, she had ruled out the option of opting out of her marriage. How and why the devil struck The mother-in-law, Mrs. Igbasue, said that it all started in the farm during a joke which led to s*x later in the night when they returned from the farm. "I agreed to his demand for s*x and thought it was just to satisfy his s*xual feelings, but somehow, it became a daily thing," she confessed. "I never thought I could get pregnant due to my age. I told my daughter the truth so that we can get a solution to it and out of anger she went public with it. I have since regretted my action. My intention is to find a way and abort it. My daughter earlier agreed to look for somebody to abort it for me because I can't keep it. The whole thing was temptation and I completely regret it. I have pleaded for forgiveness from her." When Daily Sun confronted John with the issue, he was furious that his wife had let the cat out of the bag on what he considers to be a "family affair" and, therefore, supposed to be resolved internally. He claimed that his mother-in-law seduced him by always exposing herself while they worked on the farm, especially, whenever both of them came together to eat. "She would always sit half-n*ked before me; at first, it was embarrassing to me," he said. "But I later discovered that her actions were an open invitation and as a man, I was tempted at a point, and that led to something else. And we both continued in that order until our actions resulted in pregnancy." Recall, regret and retribution John who attributed the whole scandal to Satan's work, added that he never imagined that the woman could become pregnant. He admitted that he has deeply offended God as well as his wife for going too far by sleeping with his mother-in-law to extent of getting her pregnant, adding that the pregnancy won't stand as he will do his best by pleading with his wife to accept aborting it. "I have regretted what happened. It is not in my character and the shame this very act has brought to me, my wife and the entire village as well as those who know me is unbearable," he lamented. "Since my wife leaked this out, I have not been comfortable and have lost appetite for food. I have been pleading with her to forgive me because it is the devil's work." culled from Olu famous Mr Olumide's Blog |
How Nigerian Customs Plan To Make More Money In 2018 Posted: 05 Jan 2018 10:30 PM PST The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has expressed the hope to exceed 2017 record of revenue collection performance in 2018, appealing for support from all Nigerians. The Public Relations Officer, Mr Joseph Attah, told newsmen on Friday in Abuja that the NCS received Federal Government support in 2017 "and this would translate to more patrol vehicles and equipment to perform even better in 2018. "We are prepared to do more of what we did last year and we look forward to breaking the record of 2017 in 2018 by God's grace." Attah, who expressed displeasure over stories in some national dailies that implied that the service was having lingering friction with National Assembly, said it was "disturbing ." According to him, some national dailies choose to put a headline like "Customs Blames National Assembly for 2017 Performance. "For avoidance of doubt, we want to say that the relationship between NCS and the National Assembly is cordial: there is no problem and we have no reason to blame the respected body for what is generally accepted as a very good performance in 2017. "How do we (Customs) blame an individual or an organisation when many are commending the service for a job well done in terms of revenue collection and suppression of smuggling? "We are not reporting something negative, we are reporting something positive, does it make sense to blame somebody for performing very well?." Attah also said that the service generated a total sum of N1.037 trillion at the end of 2017. According to him, the reinvigorated anti-smuggling operations in 2017 raked in a total of 4,492 assorted seizures with a Duty Paid Value (DPV) of N12.78 billion culled from Olu famous Mr Olumide's Blog |
Religious Leaders Raise Alarm Over Incessant Killings Posted: 05 Jan 2018 10:20 PM PST Scores of religious leaders in Ondo state on Friday condemned the incessant killings in Nigeria particularly the recent ones during of the new year in Rivers, Kwara, Benue and Kaduna States where worshippers, a monarch and farmers were killed mercilessly. The Chief Imam of Ikareland and Patron, League of Imams and Alfas in the State, Sheik Abbas Abubakar described the killing of an innocent person as grievous sin before Allah. He urged people to shun such ungodly acts. The cleric wondered why people coming from places of worship must be their targets. Also, an Anglican Priest, Canon Isaac Awowole from Ikaram Akoko called for more security in places of worship while perpetrators caught must be properly prosecuted. A Muslim leader and the National Organising Secretary, Ansar Ud Deen Society of Nigeria, Ibrahim Kilani (AUD) described such killings as barbaric which could discourage foreign investors. Kilani noted that investment in oil, gas, solid mineral and telecommunications are very attractive to be tapped by foreigners. The religious leaders urged Buhari to back up his words with actions so as to give the country good image in the comity of nations. culled from Olu famous Mr Olumide's Blog |

Suspected drug traffickers kill NDLEA officer in Kano | Mr Olumide's Blog Posted: 05 Jan 2018 11:11 AM PST The Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency ( NDLEA ), retired Col. Mustapha Abdullah, says one of its officers in Kano command has been killed by some suspected drug traffickers. Abdullah disclosed this on Friday in Kano when he addressed officers and men of the agency. He sympathised with them and the family of the victim. The chairman said that two other officers attacked by the suspects were receiving treatment. He described the attack as an attempt to discourage the agency in its efforts toward ensuring that the country is free from the activities of drug traffickers. "The officer that was killed, Mr Tanko Amfani was in company of his colleagues while coming back from Rano Local Government Area on a mission to arrest some suspected drug traffickers. "But unfortunately, they were attacked at the early hours of Thursday," he said.Abdullah said that only someone who is on hard drugs can carry out such attack on the officers. According to Abdallah, the agency has in recent times lost three other officers at Okene, in Kogi State He commiserated with the families of the four officers who lost their lives in Kogi and Kano while serving the nation. Abdallah assured the personnel that the Federal Government was doing everything possible to equip the officers more and also ensure their welfare in order to boost their morale. He said that more personnel would soon be recruited by the agency to strengthen its manpower. In his remarks, the NDLEA Commander in Kano, Alhaji Hamza Umar said that the riffles used by the attackers were not locally-made but AK 47 guns which are not ordinary. He appealed to the general public to continue to give the agency all the necessary support in order to succeed in the fight against drug trafficking. NAN culled from MPNB Mr Olumide's Blog |

Residents flee over alleged beheading of security official in Bayelsa | Mr Olumide's Blog Posted: 05 Jan 2018 09:52 AM PST Residents of Ndoro community in Ekeremor Local Government Area of Bayelsa have fled the area following the alleged beheading of a security operative by militants. A resident of the community, Mr Henshaw Ebi, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Friday that the security official was negotiating with a militants' leader in the area to surrender their arms when the incident occurred. "The community was thrown into apprehension and people began to flee in droves since Monday when the lifeless body of the 'security emissary' was seen in the community without his head. However, Bayelsa Government in a reaction to the development said on Friday that there was no cause for alarm. The government called on fleeing members of the community to return home as the situation had been brought under control. The Commissioner for information, Mr Daniel Iworiso-Markson, said the assurance came in the wake of a meeting between Gov. Seriake Dickson, security chiefs, officials of the military high command, leaders and stakeholders of the community. The Commissioner said in a statement that the member representing Sagbama/Ekeremor federal constituency in the House of Representatives, Fred Agbedi also attended the meeting. Iworiso-Markson said it was resolved that the military would move into the community and restore normalcy, while the government would begin a peace process. He, therefore, called on the people who had fled to return as their safety was now guaranteed. He said with the presence of the military in the area they could go about their normal businesses. The commissioner said the situation was now under control following government's quick intervention, and expressed regret over its occurrence. He said Gov. Posted: 05 Jan 2018 09:31 AM PST In Victory Park Estate, Lekki, Lagos State, Nigeria, a Receiver Manager for AMCON Mr Lanre Olaoluwa, is using miscreants and touts to harass, intimidate and harm bona-fide landowners and beating any construction worker that dares to come to site. All of this is preparatory to 'grabbing' their Land. Residents of Victory Park Estate, Igbokushu, Eti-Osa Local Government area, Lagos State purchased land legally from Grant Properties/Knight Rook Limited, the only companies authorised to sell plots of land in the Estate. There were no caveats in the Lands Registry or the Corporate Affairs Commission when the residents carried out due diligence checks before purchasing Land from Grant Properties/Knight Rook Ltd. To develop infrastructure in the Estate, Grant Properties had taken loans from 4 Commercial banks and subsequently ran into problems over repayment. Consequently, the banks took their facilities to AMCON but still retained Grant Properties/Knight Rook Limited as Selling Agents via an MOU. Despite these sales, Grant Properties/Knight Rook was still unable to repay AMCON who then appointed a Receiver Manager, Lanre Olaoluwa to take over Grant's assets and recover funds to pay down the loan. Olaoluwa proceeded to lock up Grant's and Knight Rook's offices and commenced negotiations with the key Sponsors Otunba Jide Awosedo and others. Negotiations broke down because both parties could not agree. Added to all this drama is a twist wherein the MD of one of the creditor banks went ahead and sold land which was supposedly pledged as collateral to a Director of his bank after the loans had been sold to AMCON - insider trading! Conflict of interest! Fraud! And also despite the executed and subsisting MOU. Grant Properties then took the matter to court and the Court invalidated the conflicted sale and ruled in favor of Grant Properties. But the Receiver Manager has turned a blind eye to this. As we write, neither the conflicted sold property, housing what is now Cadogan Estate, nor its residents are being disturbed by Lanre Olaoluwa or AMCON. On 29th September 2017, just a few days after the negotiations broke down, Lanre Olaoluwa served residents in the Estate with a letter, demanding that they submit their title documents for verification. He promised to provide a Survey plan which will show his claim to unencumbered land in the Estate. Till date he has not produced any such Survey simply because it does not exist! Note also that the authority to verify title documents does not reside in the hands of private individuals or companies but rather with the various Government appointed parastatals and offices and the Law Courts. Residents later found out that Lanre Olaoluwa intended to present any title document submitted to him by residents to AMCON as proof that residents had succumbed to his wily ways and were now desperate to negotiate payment of validation fees which was a complete fallacy. A video of a scene at the estate after the touts attacked and injured workers who brought materials to site can be found here: On 30th September 2017, Olaoluwa again sent in miscreants and touts to harass workers on all plots where construction was ongoing. Believe it or not, those miscreants and touts have showed up every single day from then till now. People have taken mortgage loans and all kinds of loans and are still unable to build. The aggrieved residents have sent a petition to AMCON, have published a petition to the Commissioner of Police on pages 20 and 21 of the Guardian newspaper on 7th November 2017 and also published an open letter to the President on pages 17 of the Guardian newspaper on 9th November 2017. The harassment must stop! Nigerians are tired of suffering because of lawlessness. The position of the law on this matter is clear. Lanre Olaoluwa cannot be above the law. He needs to stop harassing innocent citizens with touts! Pursue Grant Properties/Knight Rook and leave culled from MPNB Mr Olumide's Blog |
Girl,19 cries out after family cuts her off for dating 52 year old man | Mr Olumide's Blog Posted: 05 Jan 2018 05:31 AM PST 19-year-old Selma Teichmann says her relationship with Maik Lier, 52, is simply about love. The teaching student, from Munden, Germany, fell for her lover after they worked together briefly - and he then pursued her on social media. The teenager was just 18 when Maik friend requested her on Facebook, sending her countless messages. Selma explains: 'For Maik it was love at first sight and after a few days, he sent me a friend request on Facebook. Then he started writing to me.' She says the romantic correspondence saw her gradually fall in love with him, something which she tried to deny at first. While their connection has grown ever stronger, Selma's estrangement from her family, who strongly disapprove of their relationship, has also grown. They have tried to split them up on many occasions and the couple are still trying to prove their love is real. 'For half a year we hid our relationship, as my mother suspected more behind the relationship between Maik and I, so I talked to her,' she said. 'The incomprehension of my family is the most difficult thing for us; they don't accept Maik and this has destroyed the contact between them and me. Selma says she's currently not speaking to her family - but that they hope they'll be able to talk them around to their relationship eventually. She says: 'We want to show everybody that we are happy in this relationship and that age gap relationships are nothing to hide. Daily Mail culled from MPNB Mr Olumide's Blog |

We’ve been abandoned, says Ese Oruru’s father | Mr Olumide's Blog Posted: 05 Jan 2018 05:01 AM PST Mr. Charles Oruru, the father of Ese Oruru, the then 13-year-old girl abducted and taken to Kano where she was allegedly raped, forcibly Islamised and married off without her parents' consent, is lamenting that the family has been abandoned. He also said that all the promises made by the governments of Bayelsa and Delta states as well as some non-governmental organisations with regard to Ese's scholarship had not been fulfilled. The abduction of Ese, the youngest child of Charles Oruru and Rose Oruru, occurred on 12 August, 2015 at her mother's shop in Yenagoa Local Government Area of Bayelsa State. Ese, who was 13 years old at the time, was abducted by a man named Yunusa Dahiru (alias Yellow) and taken to Kano, where she was allegedly raped, forcibly converted into Islam and married off without her parents' consent. The conversion and marriage allegedly took place in the palace of the Emir of Kano, Sanusi Lamido Sanusi. On February 29, 2016, Ese was reportedly rescued by the Kano State Police and placed in the custody of the government. She was later revealed to be five months' pregnant with her abductor's child after being released. Charles told The PUNCH in an interview on Thursday that since all the promises did not come to fruition, he had relocated Ese, her child and other family members to their hometown in Ughelli, Delta State. He recalled that three months after Ese was delivered of her baby, some persons allegedly attempted to 'steal' the baby at the Police Officers' Mess in Yenagoa where Ese and the baby were domiciled then. Charles stated, "A lot of things have happened. As Ese was delivered of her baby, three months after, some people attempted to steal the baby but God helped us, they did not succeed. "After that incident, I had to fight to take Ese and the baby from there. So, we have taken them to Ughelli in Delta State. I am the only one living in Yenagoa. As they left, I started making efforts to get the scholarship the Bayelsa State Government promised Ese after giving birth. Charles noted that when they got to their home in Delta, he personally wrote letters to the Governor of Delta State for scholarship but he replied that the government did not have provision for such. He also lamented that the court proceedings had been stalled since August 2017 when the trial Judge, Justice H.A. Nganjiwa, was transferred to Abuja. He explained, "Even the court matter is another funny aspect. We went to court last in August 2017 before they took the trial judge to Abuja and up till now, the judge has not come back. Because of the absence of the judge, the matter has been stalled. "When I tried to find out what was amiss, somebody in the court told me that the trial might commence in 2018 but we do not know when that will be." As for Yunusa, Charles said the suspect had been freed from Okaka Prison, Yenagoa and flown to his hometown in Kano State. On whether Yunusa had been taking care of Ese's baby, he retorted, "God forbid! The baby is in our possession. We have been taking care of the baby. He has not called anybody. Anyway, it is expected because the child is not his. He added that Ese was well and kicking, stressing that she is now an SSS2 student in a school in Ughelli. He said that it was the family that was responsible for the school fees of Ese contrary to speculation that the government was footing her education bill. He added, " We pay for her school fees. Contrary to speculation, the government of Delta State is not responsible for Ese's fees. We sought their help but they did not offer any. The school my wife took her to before, we were not able to pay before one Good Samaritan assisted us in paying for two terms. culled from MPNB Mr Olumide's Blog |
Photo: Nigerian mother jailed for attempting to sell her twins | Mr Olumide's Blog Posted: 05 Jan 2018 04:51 AM PST A Katsina State Senior Magistrates' Court has sentenced to 10 months in jail, Salima Lawal, who was arrested for attempting to sell her 32-day-old twins for N350,000 in December last year. The court, however, gave the convict, a resident of Marabar kankara town in the Malumfashi Local Government Area of the state, an option of N10,000 fine. In his judgment on Wednesday evening, the presiding magistrate, Nuradeen El-Laden, explained that he gave Lawal a light sentence in view of the health of the twins and that of the mother herself. He noted that a woman attempting to sell her children might have been battling abject poverty. El-Laden noted that the convict and her babies had spent a number of days in the prison custody, adding that Lawal had shown remorse for her action. There were indications that a woman, who preferred to remain anonymous, had offered to pay the fine on behalf of the convict. The police arraigned Lawal for alleged violation of Section 278 of the Penal Code, which the magistrate frowned on, noting that the section dealt with intention to sell kids for prostitution. culled from MPNB Mr Olumide's Blog |
