Alibaba Reacts To Davido's Claim That He Made ₦500m From His Last Concert | Mr Olumide's Blog

Posted: 11 Jan 2018 05:00 AM PST

Veteran comedian Alibaba has validated Davido's claim about making N500 million after his December 27th show.In a lengthy instagram post, he wrote
This afternoon, at about 1pm, I got a message on my WhatsApp asking me to confirm if Davido can actually make the kind of money he claims to have made. I thought the sender was patronizing... or as we say in Warri "e dey use style find my mouth".
But this evening, I got another chat from a Banker, who wanted to know if the kind of money he is hearing could be made from a concert. I could not ignore this one. He is the Chief Risk Officer of a top 5 bank. So, I took my time to mention how possible it is to even make more than the figure he has heard being mentioned.
In 2007...
I worked on an Entertainment, sports, hospitality and recreation R&D project with some great minds. That was 10 years ago. And after all information and surveys were gathered, we found out that between 5-8Billions... Yes billions... are spent between Friday and Sunday. 10 years on, from another survey carried out last year, its now over 15billion every weekend. The financial dynamics can be dazzling.
That's showbizness.
It's unfair, or better put, a total waste of efforts to compare your career as a banker, doctor, lawyer, accountant, engineer and businessman, to that of people in the sector listed above. Usain Bolt for instance could make the profits of some banks just by taking part in 3 meets. Because the prize money, endorsements and investments, could amount to some cool dollars. Just convert that. Mayweather is another case in point.
THE POINT PEOPLE MISS IS THIS... The Entertainment sector is a gold mine that activates commercial activities in allied sectors. Sectors like, banking, security, hospitality, food and beverage, fashion, video & photo coverage, equipment rental, printing, advertising, branding, luxury market, marketing, legal, graphics, insurance, stage, engineering, medical, transportation, tourism, events management, comedy, broadcasting content, telecommunications, data consumption... and more. ZENITH BANK, GTB, HERITAGE, PEPSI, GLO... know this. And it can be a 200billion every weekend sector. We are far behind considering the potentials we have. So yes. N500m IS A TIP.

According to US Weekly,

"She's very happy about the pregnancy but she doesn't want to share this with the world," an insider told Us Weekly.

The insider adds that after more than 10 years having her life broadcast to millions, she just wants to keep this special time to herself.

They went on: "She spent her adolescent life on television and has been famous for over 10 years now. If this is the first thing she wants to keep to herself, she should be allowed that.
"She's worked hard enough to do whatever she wants.
"If you knew Kylie she can be very stubborn. When she makes her decisions, she sticks by them. This is a decision she made early on in her pregnancy and she's sticking by it."

Meanwhile, it was recently reported that Kylie's baby daddy Travis Scott has dumped the make-up entrepreneur.

The police have arrested some armed robbers who invaded the house of a couple in Lokoja, Kogi State, during the Yuletide.

The five suspects were said to have invaded the house of the couple on December 28, at about 2am while the family was asleep.

The husband, Chris Edime, who narrated his ordeal to journalists at the police headquarters in Lokoja during a parade of the suspects, said he was awoken by the noise of the robbers who gained entry into the children's room and looted the house.

"They ordered all of us to lie face down; two of them entered the kitchen to prepare food, while two of them drove me to an ATM to empty my account," he added.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, William Aya, an Assistant Superintendent of Police, said Edume reported to the command that the gunmen stole his Infinity G35X salon car and household appliances.

He said the Department of State Services, Lokoja, synergised with operatives of the command to arrest the perpetrators.

"Investigations led to the arrest of one Mohammed Ibrahim in Lagos, from whom the car was recovered," Aya said.

Other members were named as Mohammed Kabiru, Musa Mohammed, Emmanuel Audu and Yale Yunusa.

200 migrants from Nigeria, others drown in Mediterranean | Mr Olumide's Blog

Posted: 11 Jan 2018 02:40 AM PST

It was a tragic start to New Year for migrants from Nigeria and other countries as hundreds of them crossing to Italy and Spain were feared dead in the Mediterranean Sea, the International Organisation for Migration (IOM) has said.

IOM's Public Information Officer in Libya, Christine Petré, reported that the boats carrying the migrants departed from the coastal towns of Azzawiyah and Al Khums in Libya.

"Most of the survivors hail from African countries, including Senegal, Mali and Nigeria. The Libyan Cost Guard reported that eight were from Bangladesh while two were from Pakistan," Petré said.

According to IOM, and a report released by Libya's Coast Guard, about 100 people on board remain missing.

The UN migration agency said its officials were present at the disembarkation point in Tripoli and provided the survivors with food and water.

Othman Belbeisi, Chief of IOM Libya Mission, said on Wednesday that about 200 migrants or refugees had died or gone missing in the Mediterranean Sea with up to 100 unaccounted for since Saturday.

According to him, the tragedy came at a time when Mediterranean migrants' death dropped sharply as IOM recorded only 26 on the Mediterranean Sea lanes in December 2017.

Belbeisi said while January 2017 had witnessed some 254 deaths, this week's reports suggest that the start of 2018 may be even deadlier.

IOM reported on Tuesday that 81 Mediterranean Sea deaths of migrants or refugees were recorded in the first eight days of the year with five in Western Mediterranean waters off Spain and Morocco and the rest between Italy and Libya.

In the latest, and third deadliest, shipwreck in the Mediterranean since Saturday, the Libyan Coast Guard rescued three rubber boats with 279 migrants made up of 19 women, 243 men, 13 boys and four girls, in an operation lasting at least 12 hours.

The UN migration agency said it continued to provide support and direct humanitarian assistance to the survivors of this latest tragedy, many of whom now are at Libya's Tajoura detention centre. (NAN)

Atiku’s Son Escapes With Son as Court Awards Ex-wife Custody of Their Kids

Posted: 11 Jan 2018 01:55 AM PST

There was drama at the Tinubu Magistrate's Court yesterday afternoon following the disappearance of Aamir Atiku, the seven-year-old son of Aminu Atiku and his ex-wife, Unmi Fatima Bolori.

The boy's mother claimed that Aminu, son of former Vice President Abubakar Atiku, snatched Aamir and drove off with him.

The alleged incident occurred at 1:59pm, minutes after Aminu lost custody of his daughter Ameera Atiku, 9, and Aamir 7, to Bolori.

Chief Magistrate Ayeye granted Bolori full custody of the children after Aminu failed to file a response to her application for child custody.

The court ordered Aminu to pay Bolori N250, 000 monthly for the upkeep of the children, beginning from this month. It also ordered Aminu to carry out medical insurance on the children among others.

Bolori's November 2017 application for child custody proposed a nine-point 'statement of arrangement' for the children.

It was argued by her counsel, Gloria Albert-Ekpe (Mrs.) and Ethel Okoh from Festus Keyamo Chambers.

The applicant prayed the court to order Aminu to pay her N300,000,00 monthly as feeding and maintenance allowance for the kids' upkeep and N1million yearly as their clothing allowance.

Bolori also sought an order restraining Aminu from taking the kids "outside the shores of Nigeria for any purpose whatsoever" without her consent.

At the resumed hearing of the matter yesterday, neither Aminu nor his legal team was present to announce appearance.

Chief Magistrate Ayeye said: "The respondent failed to file a response. In view of the deliberate absence of the respondent and his legal team, I am constrained to make these following orders in default of respondent's presence and in the best interest of the children to wit:

"Unmi Fatima Bolori is hereby granted full custody of Aamir Abubakar Sadiq Aminu Atiku (seven years) and Ameera Amina Atiku (nine years).

"The applicant is allowed to reside with the children at her residence at Katampe Extension, Abuja.

"The applicant is ordered to put the children in schools suited for their educational needs in Abuja.

"Access is granted to the respondent to visit his children in Abuja and request for the children to spend holidays with him.

"The respondent is ordered to pay monthly upkeep for the children in the amount ofN250, 000.00 monthly beginning January 2018.

"The Respondent is ordered to effect medical insurance on each of the children."

When Aminu and his legal team eventually arrived at the courtroom at around 1pm, the proceedings were practically over.

The Nation observed him laughing and playing with both kids in the courtroom. At about 1:45pm, he consulted with his lawyers and walked out of the courtroom.

According to Bolori's counsel Okoh, Aminu "snatched" his son from the mum, locked him in his car before driving off".

Okoh said last night that Aminu had refused to hand over his son to her client. She said his mother was worried because they were due to catch a flight to her Abuja home today.

Bolori, daughter of Maiduguri businessman Alhaji Bukar Bolori, and Aminu got married in Ghana in 2007, but they separated in 2011.

Posted: 11 Jan 2018 01:55 AM PST

Humans of Abuja took to social media to reveal how a man identified as Azubuike Okoye's life was almost ruined by his wife after looting his properties and eloping with her school boyfriend abroad.

Read his touching story below...

My decision not to listen to my family has almost ruined my life.

I met her four years ago, I thought she was an Angel sent to me by God,immediately I went ahead to see her family and perform the necessary rites, and after eight months of our traditional wedding we got wedded in the church.

After our first child a Boy, I was so happy that I to ask her to quit her Job and I opened a branch of my business for her, deal on Fabrics at Wuse market, I gave her access to everything she wanted, but she gave me the shock of my life last year when I traveled to go and buy goods upon my arrival I only found my son with my Neighbor at my House.

He narrated to me how he came back from the market and found my son Sitting outside and crying and he haven't seen my wife since two weeks , I thought that was all until the next day that I went to the market I opened my shop it was empty and I went to her own, it was empty,I almost killed myself but thank God I didn't.

I called her it was switched off, I later got to know that she eloped with her school boyfriend to Abroad, my family actually kicked against me getting married to her but I only thought my sisters were just being jealous and insecure because I am the only male child but I never knew they saw what I never saw in her.

Thank God I have moved on, I have forgiven her and I wish her well in her new found love and home, as for me all I have got to do now is to secure my son's future and make sure he doesn't lack anything nor make same mistake I made.

Some women are the reason why people tag ladies gold diggers, she only got married to me to steal from me. Please my advice to every single man out there; don't be blindfolded by love, while in love try and also listen to your family (as) their reasons might be genuine.

Don't blame Buhari...Herdsmen killed over 756 under Jonathan – Presidency | Mr Olumide's Blog

Posted: 11 Jan 2018 01:50 AM PST

The Presidency on Wednesdey said

The Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Mr. Femi Adesina, said in a video he posted on his Facebook page. ...

it was ubfair for people to blame Fulani herdmen killings on president Buhari as over 756 people were killed by herdsmen in two years under former President Goodluck Jonathan.
"Something that is disturbing that I have heard about it is linking those developments to the fact that a Fulani man is President and so, he is brooking such kind of evil acts.

"I think that is very unkind. And I will try to back my position with statistics.

"In 2013, particularly, there were nine cases of herdsmen invading communities in Benue state alone and more than 190 people were killed.

"In 2014, there were about 16 of such tragic developments with more than 231 people killed. And then there was a change of government in May 2015.
"But between January and May 2015, there were six attacks which left about 335 people dead.

"Now, the question is, during that period, did we have a Fulani president?"
Therefore, let nobody say that all this is happening because we have a Fulani president. We have had many Fulani presidents in the past and this issue of herders and local communities at loggerheads has predated this government.
"But I will just like to appeal to Nigerians that the Muhammadu Buhari government is determined to crack this issue, is determined to get to the bottom of it and it will get done," he added.

Stephanie Linus Arrives Italy To Advocate Against Human Trafficking | Mr Olumide's Blog

In the wake of the increased rate of human trafficking being experienced by Nigerians trying to migrate to Europe via Libya, Actress and Producer Stephanie Linus has recently arrived in Italy to give support to rescued people and raise her voice against such human rights violations.

This timely intervention is in partnership with the world-renowned international medical humanitarian organisation "Doctors Without Borders" (MSF).
Over the next few days, Mrs Linus will visit the rescue ship "Aquarius" to witness their activities and operations. Later she will have meetings with some of these vulnerable women;  participate in rehabilitation exercises for the rescued women, media parleys and stakeholder meetings with the aim of alleviating their sufferings and preventing more girls and women from falling prey.

Doctors Without Borders is one of the most impactful humanitarian organisation that rescues thousands of people who faced hazardous conditions trying to enter Europe through the sea yearly. In 2017, the Aquarius (a rescue ship)  has rescued 15,078 people.

Mrs Linus has been at the forefront of advocacy over sensitive issues that affect the rights of women and girls. She has done this through several channels such as her advocacy movie – DRY, her role as UNFPA Ambassador; her charity organisation Extended Hands Foundation and many more.

An increasing number of women, mainly from Nigeria, are being trafficked to Europe for sexual exploitation. According to the International Organisation for Migration (IOM), there has been an almost 600% increase in the number of potential sex trafficking victims arriving in Italy by Sea since 2014. Many of these women were kidnapped against their will or lured with the promise of greener pastures.

Nigerians attacked in South Africa again | Mr Olumide's Blog

Posted: 11 Jan 2018 12:55 AM PST

Four Nigerians are in critical condition in a South African  hospital while some shops and a guest house have been burnt in renewed attacks by South Africans.

Mr Paul Nwanedo, chairman, Nigerian Union, North West Province chapter told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on the telephone from Rustenburg that the attacks against Nigerians began on Sunday.

He said that taxi drivers in Rustenburg alleged that a Nigerian abducted and raped a 16-year-old South African girl and also alleged that Nigerians sold drugs to a local gang that attacked their members.

" This is absolutely untrue. We have investigated and found out that the allegations are false. The union is worried about the safety of our members in Rustenburg," he said.

Nwanedo said that four Nigerians caught by the taxi drivers were beaten and are in critical condition in the hospital while some shops belonging to Nigerians had been torched.

" As I speak to you, we are afraid because the attacks have continued and our members are still in hiding.
"We have reported to the police and our national secretariat. We want the safety of lives and property of our people," he said.

Mr Adetola Olubajo, President of the union, said that the national secretariat had been informed about the incident at Rustenburg.

" Investigation by the union shows that no Nigerians abducted or raped a South African girl. Indeed, no Nigerian has been arrested for the offence and we are worried about the turn of events.
" The lives and property of our citizens in Rustenburg are in danger and there is an urgent need for intervention. We appeal to our mission and Federal government to intervene urgently and save the situation," Olubajo said.

Spokesman of the police in Rustenburg, Brig-Gen. Sabata Mokgwabone said  the reasons for the violent protest was unclear but confirmed that " the burnt houses are those occupied by foreign nationals,"

North West Provincial Commissioner of Police, Lt.-Gen. Baile Motswenyane called on the public to work with law enforcement officials.

" Those who are doing this must know that they are committing a crime and drastic action will be taken, including against our own members who are involved in criminal activities," he said.

TRAGIC: 10 Die In Lagos-Ibadan Expressway Crash

Posted: 11 Jan 2018 12:50 AM PST

A hasty commercial bus driver has dispatched 10 people to early graves in a road accident at the Alapako/Ogunmakin end of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.

It was learnt that the bus driver, who had 11 passengers, collided with a cement-laden Dangote truck around 9pm on Tuesday.

The Punch gathered that the two vehicles were heading in opposite directions.

A diversion was said to have been created at that end of the expressway due to an ongoing repair work by a construction company.

The diversion had forced all vehicles travelling to and from the expressway to one side of the road.

The driver was reported to have left his lane in a bid to overtake other vehicles, and rammed into the speeding truck.

Eleven vehicle passengers were said to have been trapped in the mangled bus, as officials of the Federal Road Safety Corps struggled to rescue them.

However, only one of the vehicle occupants survived with injuries and was rushed to a hospital for treatment, while seven men and three women died on the spot. The drivers of the bus and the truck did not die.

The FRSC Route Commander, Florence Okpe, who spoke for the Sector Commander, Clement Ogundele, called on the deceased's families to come forward for their corpses which had been deposited in FOS mortuary, Ipara.

He noted that the agency's rescue team recovered N151,340, with 10 mobile phones and goods from the scene of the incident.

He said, "A fatal crash occurred on Tuesday, January 9, 2018 around 9pm immediately after the diversion made by the RCC for repairs of weakened bridges around the segments of the expressway.

"A commercial bus, with number plate, BD J410 YM, which was travelling from Lagos, attempted to overtake vehicles travelling at the section of the road diversion. In the process, it had a head-on collision with an unregistered Dangote truck, laden with cement and travelling in opposite directions.

"This resulted in the entire passengers being trapped and it took the intervention of the RCC crane, requested by the FRSC rescue team, to extricate the trapped passengers from the truck.

"A total of 10 passengers– seven males and three females– died from injuries sustained from the impact of the crash. The only survivor was taken to Ife-Plus, a hospital at Ogunmakin."

He explained that aside from the driver not having a driving licence or a speed limiter, the vehicle's tyres were expired.

"The driver of the bus was tracked to a hospital and arrested. He is in police custody and will be charged to court for causing the death of his passengers," he added.

Oladele urged motorists to always be careful when approaching the diversion created around the Sancrete up to Fidiwo bridge by the construction company, adding that the repair of the weakened bridge would be completed before the end of January 2018.

'Wrong' book becomes Bestseller thanks to Trump | Mr Olumide's Blog

Posted: 11 Jan 2018 12:35 AM PST

A Toronto professor is reaping rewards from the success of Michael Wolff's White House exposé "Fire and Fury: Inside the Trump White House."

Chatter about the tell-all tome has been a boom to book sales for Prof. Randall Hansen, whose own book, also entitled "Fire and Fury," documents the Allies' bombing of Germany during World War II.

Hansen, a professor at the University of Toronto's Munk School of Global Affairs, said the hype around Wolff's book has brought new attention to his own.

"It's really gratifying that people are talking about the book again," Hansen told the Daily News.
"We are getting lots of attention."
Hansen admits that sales of his book, published in 2008, had languished until recently.
"One of the nice things that has happened is that people who didn't know my book existed, and who are interested in the moral question of war, are buying the book because of the attention," Hansen said Wednesday.

He said it's now on three bestselling lists, and is sold out on Amazon's U.S. and Canadian sites. The capital was talking about nothing else, and I only regarded it as an odd sort of coincidence until I saw the effect on sales," he said.

He'll only know exactly how many copies have sold when his publisher sends him a royalty check.

Hansen said a number of customers purchased his book by mistake.

Most have taken it in stride, but some have angrily reviewed his work on Amazon.

4th woman accuses Wall Street millionaire of raping her in Manhattan 'dungeon' | Mr Olumide's Blog

Posted: 10 Jan 2018 05:15 PM PST

A fourth woman is accusing Wall Street millionaire Howard Rubin of torturing and raping her in a sex "dungeon" at his lavish Manhattan penthouse.

Julie Parker claims she was 20 when Rubin lured her to his private pad at the Metropolitan Tower in November 2015 and then drugged and assaulted her as part of a "sadistic game."

In a lawsuit filed Tuesday in Manhattan Supreme Court, Parker said Rubin tied her up with ropes hanging from his ceiling, ripped her clothes off, brutally beat her and sodomized her with objects as she begged for mercy and used the safe word "pineapples."

Rubin then dragged her by her hair over to a couch, choked her and raped her without a condom during the "horrifying" attack, according to her court papers.

Three models sued Rubin, a former portfolio manager for George Soros' investment fund, in November. They also claim he raped and beat them at the 76th-floor penthouse on W. 57th St. in recent years.
Like the other women, Parker claims in her new lawsuit that Rubin, 62, pressured her to sign a nondisclosure agreement that he later relied upon to "silence" her.

Parker said she was introduced to Rubin by Kevin Mahaney, the CEO of The Olympia Companies, a real estate firm based in Maine.

Mahaney arranged for her to meet Rubin and get paid for platonic companionship, according to her suit.

After the alleged rape, Parker said, Mahaney convinced her to "stay quiet" and not seek medical attention for "substantial bruising throughout her body, bleeding from her anus" and "pain when urinating."

She said Mahaney then paid for her apartment in Los Angeles and for her to attend college courses. But her untreated trauma caused her to fall apart and attempt to take her own life with an overdose in 2016.

Parker said she later bought a one-way ticket to Bali and immersed herself in yoga and meditation to treat her anxiety, depression and substance abuse, the lawsuit states.

Her lawsuit seeks $41 million in total damages from Rubin and Mahaney along with the court's invalidation of the NDA she signed.

He appealed for calm during the burial, and cautioned Benue residents against reprisal attacks against anyone.

Ortom vowed to ensure that the attackers were apprehended, and promised government's support to the security agencies to actualise that.

He accused  security agencies for being indifferent to his demand that they protect the state against its aggressors after several complaints of planned attacks reported to them.

"I saw the attacks coming and we wrote several letters of complaint to the police and complained to the presidency, yet nothing happened.

"We called for the arrest of Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association (MACBAN) but nobody responded; we have facts that can be used against them."

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the Inspector General of Police (IGP) Ibrahim Idris and top police officers including the DIG operations, Habila Joshak, two commissioners of police for Benue and Nasarawa states were in attendance at the stakeholders meeting.

The governor expressed regret that after repeated complaints to the police and other security agencies in the country on the threats of attacks by MACBAN, nothing was done to secure lives and property in the state.

"We called for the arrest of leaders of the association; we had evidence to support our claims but nobody paid heed to us.

"We wrote to you IGP three times but received no response. We briefed the presidency yet to no avail," he lamented.

Ortom said the refusal of the security agencies to act and their lackadaisical attitude on the matter led to the mayhem of Jan. 1.

He wondered why open statements of intended aggression against the state on national television, radio stations by members of the association had not been investigated and arrests effected.

He vowed to continue with the anti open grazing law, stressing "there is no land in Benue for open grazing".

Ortom said he would not adopt the cattle colonies as suggested by the Minister of Agriculture, Audu Ogbeh.

He appealed to the IGP to immediately order for the arrest of leaders of MACBAN to give hope to the ordinary citizens that all people were equal before the law.

The governor said that the herdsmen that attacked the state came from their bases in Nasarawa State and challenged the police to refute his claims.

Responding, the IGP said he had not received such letters of complaints from the governor but promised to investigate the claims and fish out the aggressors.

He said the police had deployed 663 police operatives and created 10 mobile units to deal with the insecurity in the state.

Idris said the police would deploy helicopter surveillance to monitor the movement of such miscreants across the state and pledged to be diligent in discharging the presidential assignment.

He explained that the situation was not yet beyond the capacity of the police, stressing "there is no need for the army to be invited".
