| Pregnant woman bites rapist’s genitals – Police | Mr Olumide's Blog Posted: 10 Jan 2018 03:45 AM PST  Local police spokesman Leonard Hlathi told newsmen on Wednesday that the woman, who was in the third month of her pregnancy, was raped at knife point. "She was rape in front of her young child after she hitched a lift with two men in eastern Mpumalanga province. Police, however, appealed to all health institutions to contact the authorities if they find a man with "an injured private part." The police also put out a tweet on their official account calling for information on the case. Hlathi told newsmen that in spite of his bad injuries, the man had managed to flee. "It is not the first time that men bitten on the genitals have managed to escape,'' he said. He said that the woman is being treated by a psychologist, and noted that in South Africa "sexual offence cases are high." South Africa recorded a total of 39,828 rapes in 2016 to 2017, an average of around 109 per day. It said on its Facebook page that the survivors clung to the wreckage of the vessel until they were saved. "Unfortunately, there are a large number of missing people ranging from 90 to 100 illegal migrants from the boat,'' the navy said in a statement. | Posted: 10 Jan 2018 02:31 AM PST  Justice Saliu Seidu granted the order at the resumed trial of the former Perm. Sec. on Tuesday, on charges of illegally diverting the monies while he was supervising numerous programs of the Subsidy Reinvestment and Empowerment Programme (SURE-P). The Former Perm Sec did not contest the forfeiture of the monies as he had opted for an out-of-court settlement with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) which was prosecuting him for stealing Nigeria's money. The offences were said to have been committed when Onubuogo served as Perm Sec. He, however, retired after his trial began. Counsel to the EFCC, Mr Rotimi Oyedepo, confirmed to the court that indeed the coast was clear for the out-of-court settlement following a series of agreements between the parties. The Counsel also told the court that based on the agreements, the EFCC would be applying for the discharge of an earlier interim order of the court as regards two other properties being sought to be forfeited to the government. The properties are Clement Illoh's Mansion located at Ikom Quarters, Issala Azegba, Delta State and another property situated at number 19 Madue Nwafor Street, off Achala Ibusa Road, Asaba Delta State. The two properties are therefore exempted from the final forfeiture order. The EFCC had on Monday April 3, 2016 arraigned Clement O. Illoh, before the Federal High Court, Lagos on a three-count charge bordering on failure to declare his assets. | Mercy Aigbe finally addresses her birthday dress controversy | Mr Olumide's Blog Posted: 10 Jan 2018 01:25 AM PST  The dress was originally meant for a bride but the designer ended up giving it to Mercy and gave the bride another as a replacement. Mercy wrote I have followed events as they unfold following a particular dress I wore for a photoshoot. First, I must say that I sincerely sympathise with the bride as this situation is painful, unfortunate and regrettably avoidable. I hired and paid Seun @styledbyseun for the photoshoot as a stylist and got four dresses for the shoot. Seun and I were unaware that one of the dresses was meant for someone else. I am embarrassed that the designer was not professional enough in handling events leading to this moment. It is also painful that a bride is made to go through what the bride has been made to go through. I have reached out to both the stylist and designer (whom I have never met nor HIRED directly) to express my displeasure. | PRESIDENCY: It’s unfair to say Buhari condoning killer herdsmen Posted: 09 Jan 2018 10:26 PM PST  President Buhari has been accused of keeping silent and not intervening in killings allegedly carried out by fulani herdsmen in some states across the country. The President on Tuesday in a statement by Garba Sheu, his senior special assistant to the president on media said he is conscious of his duty to Nigerians, not least because he is held accountable for everything that goes wrong. He said Buhari deeply sympathizes with all victims of the violence and is determined to bring it to a permanent end. "President Muhammadu Buhari has been concerned about these conflicts each time he received those very gruesome pictures of mayhem from several parts of the country, especially as it affected Benue and neighbouring states. He is equally worried about some public pronouncements and finger-pointing that are, in most cases very unhelpful to peaceful coexistence of our diverse peoples. "The President is conscious of his duty to Nigerians, not least because he is held accountable for everything that goes wrong. He deeply sympathizes with the families and all the other direct and indirect victims of this violence. He is determined to bring it to a permanent end. "While there are many Nigerians who see the conflict between the nomadic herdsmen and peasant farmers as an ethnic problem, others point to religious differences and agenda. The President does not subscribe to such simplistic reductionism. "President Buhari holds the view, as do many experts, that these conflicts are more often than not, as a result of major demographic changes in Nigeria. When Nigeria attained independence, the population of the country was estimated at about 63,000,000. Today the population is estimated at close to 200,000,000; while the land size has not changed and will not change. Urban sprawl and development have simply reduced land area both for peasant farming and cattle grazing. "It is therefore both unfair and unkind, for anyone to keep insinuating that the President is condoning the spate of killings in Benue and other neighboring States". "President Buhari has publicly condemned the violence at every turn. He is prepared to permit every possible step that can lead to the stoppage of the killings. It is on account of this he brushed aside an opinion that the federal government should challenge the constitutionality of the anti-open grazing bill. He wanted to give a chance to the State government to succeed in stopping the senseless killings. "The killings must stop and the security agencies have the President's support to do this as quickly as possible. "Whipping up hate may captivate the public and score political points on social media, but it will not bring an end to the crisis. Let every stakeholder instead sit down with the government and security forces and carry everyone along in finding an all-embracing solution. "As a father, a military General and a statesman, President Buhari has maintained lasting relationships with Nigerians, Muslims and Christians among every ethnic group. It is also a known fact that the young people who trek the whole distance of thousands of kilometers tending the cattle do not own the cattle. | INEC Releases Timetable For 2019 General Elections (Details) Posted: 09 Jan 2018 10:26 PM PST  The commission made the timetable public through a post on its official social media handle, noting that the general election is only 402 days away. The Chairman of the commission, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu was quoted in the post as saying: "Today, it is exactly 402 days to the opening of polling units nationwide at 8:00 am on Saturday 16th February 2019. Let us all join hands to make 2019 our best election ever." According to INEC, notice of election commences on August 17th, 2018, quoting Section 30 (1) of the Electoral Act, 2010 (as amended) which requires not later than 90 days before the election. However, it wasn't the fact that she was naked that seemed to upset people - it was the colour of her skin. The first comment she received said: "It's disgusting to see how dark your daughters skin is.She was shocked by the message and decided to share another post to explain..  Speaking to Mirror Online she said: "I was receiving a whole lot of kind messages and decided to post the photo explaining that we have an Aboriginal heritage on my mothers side so our skin is naturally dark and tans no matter how much sunscreen and zinc we wear.However when she woke up the next morning she found out the original photo had been removed . She said: " I woke up, got the kids organised and sat down to check my Instagram only to open up my feed and have a notification from Instagram telling me I had breached their community guidelines. He said that the messenger had served the state for about 11 years. | Court remands pastor in prison for alleged murder | Mr Olumide's Blog Posted: 09 Jan 2018 12:30 PM PST  Oni, whose address was not provided at the court, pleaded not guilty to a charge of murder. The prosecutor, Insp. Johnson Okunade, told the court that the murder suspect committed the offence on or about Dec. 13, 2017 at Ado Ekiti. He alleged that Oni committed the offence through diabolical means because something strange was found in the private part of the murdered woman. According to the prosecutor, the offence contravenes Sections 325 of the Criminal Code Cap C16 Law of Ekiti,2012. | Bride poisons husband in Kano | Mr Olumide's Blog Posted: 09 Jan 2018 10:30 AM PST  The Public Relations Officer of the Police Command in the state, DSP Magaji Majiya, disclosed this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Kano on Tuesday. Majiya said the relations of the late husband reported the incident to Kofar Wambai Police station in Kano metropolis on Monday. He said the report indicated that the deceased, who married the teenage wife two weeks ago, was allegedly poisoned on Jan. 4, and died the following day. "After the Police received the report on the incident, they went to their matrimonial home at Yakasai quarters in Kano metropolis but found that the bride had ran away. "Our men had already swung into action with a view to trailing and arresting her to face prosecution," the police spokesman said. | Zimbabwe probes Grace Mugabe’s doctorate degree | Mr Olumide's Blog Posted: 09 Jan 2018 10:30 AM PST  The agency said on Tuesday it is investigating whether the former first lady was wrongly awarded a university doctorate more than three years ago. "We indeed received a report from the sociology department at the university on how Grace Mugabe received her doctorate and that is what we are investigating," said Goodson Nguni, the head of investigations at the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission. Grace, whose efforts to take over the leadership of the ruling ZANU-PF party prompted a de facto military coup against her husband, then-president Robert Mugabe, in November, graduated in 2014, just months after she had registered to study at the University of Zimbabwe. Up to now, her dissertation for the doctorate has not been published and is not available in the university library, as such academic qualifications usually are. Local media reports say the sociology department told the commission that Grace's doctorate was "suspicious" and needed to be investigated. Grace, who was called "Dr Amai" – or "learned mother of the nation" – by adulating followers, has previously defended her academic record and last September told a ZANU-PF rally that she had earned her doctorate even though her detractors thought otherwise. Emmerson Mnangagwa, who was on the receiving end of vicious attacks by Grace last year, succeeded 93-year-old Mugabe as president in November. Grace has not appeared in public since Nov. 15, when army tanks rolled into the capital and confined Mugabe and his family at his luxurious mansion in Harare.
