Tonto Dikeh Is Stubborn and Thinks Nobody Can Talk To Her – Nollywood Director

Posted: 03 Nov 2017 03:11 AM PDT

Nollywood producer and director of Hooked, Chima Okoroji aka Nwa Chineke, has reminisced on his relationship with actress Tonto Dikeh, and how it has been sour between them since then.

In an interview with the Entertainer, on the eve of the release of his latest movie, 'Breaking Call' in Liberia, the director opened up on what caused the quarrel between him and Tonto.

How do you endure the pain of movie production?
First is the passion, if there is passion there is always endurance. I don't usually complain of my work because I know what it entails before delving into it.

How do you cope with female admirers?
First, you have to be focused and every other thing comes second. I don't allow anything to distract me when I am working. There will be distraction from all sides but if managed well you will get the best from them

Which artiste have you crushed on in Nollywood?
That is a very difficult one. We are all like family on set. So, it is hard to have anything for them. The only person that has come to distract me on stage is Tonto Dike. It led to a misunderstanding with her but I stood my ground and didn't cave in. We were taught that as a director, if you can't keep emotion aside and gather your artiste; then you can't be a director. We are all equal on set. When any talent goes beyond the space I give, I show them the kind of person I am.

What did you do to Tonto Dike?
I tried several times to caution her in a very soft way. As a director, you have to know how to pamper your artiste. If you don't pamper them, they would not give you the best. It does not mean that pampering works all the time, some talents are stubborn and as such pride stops them from learning. Tonto thought nobody can talk to her, and as far as I am concerned in this industry, she is a kid to me.

It was said that once you sleep with a girl she gets role?
Definitely people will say all kinds of things but I don't buy that. It may be happening, yes, but it is not for me. I believe that any girl who is very good, no director needs to sleep with her before getting roles. I go for the best. If I see that a girl is very good, I would want to have her on my set. On the long run, if I ask her out and she gives a negative reply, am I going to force her? What I am interested in is her interpreting the role well.

Most times some of these girls are not good and they feel they can sell their bodies to get roles, and when they do that, the director will still go for the best. If any girl throws herself at me, I will welcome her and if I don't have any role for her, then it is story.

If an actress is beautiful, it is an advantage because she will be an asset for any director, but when she can't deliver, she would just be wastage irrespective of how popular she later turns out to be. I will advice her to just learn how to act, no one is born with the talent, it can be learnt, the beautiful girl should go and learn how to act.

Meet Billionaire Who's Ready To Challenge Buhari

Posted: 03 Nov 2017 03:11 AM PDT

The first public challenge in the APC to President Buhari in the 2019 presidential election has emerged with United States based oil tycoon, Dr. SKC Ogbonnia declaring his intention to vie for the presidential ticket of the ruling party.

He said Buhari is leading a visionless clique, which is not in the interest of Nigerians.

Ogbonnia, a rabid supporter of Buhari's 2015 election is the chairman of First Texas Energy Corporation and also the Secretary-General of Nigeria Union Diaspora, NUD a group that projects the interests of the Nigeria community in the United States.

In a statement, the Awgu, Enugu State, businessman said his decision followed consultations among his people and the resolve not to allow what he described as a vision-less clique to continue to lead Nigeria and hold the nation in bondage.

Ogbonnia, a regular contributor to Nigeria issues in national media in the statement said:
"After wide consultations within Nigeria and around the world, I have decided to seek the office of the president of the Federal Republic of Nigeria under All Progressive Congress (APC).

"This decision did not come easy. But there comes a time to say, enough is enough. We can no longer sit idly by while a visionless clique continues to dictate our future. We can no longer sit on the sidelines while the masses, particularly the youth, continue to wallow in abject poverty and despair, despite abundant human and natural resources in the land. We must no longer sit and watch politicians deploy our common wealth to send their families overseas for their education and healthcare while the masses at home have nowhere to go for their welfare. We can do much better.

"But this campaign is not business as usual.
It represents the much-awaited democratic mass revolution to take back our country and make it better for all. The movement calls for a new breed of leaders, including the youth, who have the zeal and the competencies to cope with the demands of the 21st century. The movement calls for a visionary and dynamic leader with the requisite knowledge, preparations, experiences, and the capacity to transform Nigeria to greatness.

"This movement beckons an upright leader who is not part of the status quo — a leader who has the moral audacity to demonstrate consequences for bad behaviour in Nigeria without minding whose ox is gored. Moreover, this critical time in history demands a president who truly believes in the unity of Nigeria — a leader who understands that lasting unity is more attainable through equity, justice, and progress for all.

"Fellow Citizens, now is the time; 2019 is the moment, and I am that leader.
Also encouraging is that there is a wide path to victory. The masses, as well as the international community, yearn for true democratic change in Nigeria.

And we, the masses, are the majority. We have equally become wiser. We shall no longer allow politicians to buy our votesfor their selfish interests. We shall no longer allow them to use ethnicity or religion to divide us as usual. We are united by common faith and the greater good.

"Best of all, we shall fulfill our promises. We shall not be beholden to the selfish wishes of an oligarchy that typically funds Nigerian campaigns. Our team has the resources to fund this campaign — from the wards to the national level. What we need, instead, is God's guidance and active support from the masses.

"The decision to continue with APC is quite in order. To encourage strong opposition activity and efficient checks and balances in governance, Nigeria's democracy does not need too many political parties. Therefore, having made a defining history by displacing a dominant corrupt party from power, APC remains a beacon of hope for our democratic future.

"But we shall reposition the party as a model for true change in line with its founding principles. We are well set to provoke a paradigm shift in the APC to meet the yearnings of the masses.

"Fellow Nigerians, this movement is not about me. It is not about east, west, north or south. It is not about this zone or that zone. The movement is all about our inner conscience as Nigerians. It is about the future of our beloved country. It is about making Nigeria great for all. And we will win, God's willing."

EFCC Knows Where Maina Is Hiding?

Posted: 03 Nov 2017 02:41 AM PDT

A former assistant director of the Department of State Services, Dennis Amacree, has disclosed that the EFCC knows where the ex-Chairman of Pension Reforms, Abdulrasheed Maina, is hiding.

Amacree made this claim during an interview on Channels yesterday.

Asked if the EFCC should seek help from sister agencies in finding Maina, Amacree said,
"Well, they can do that but I believe strongly that they know where he is. They do but it might be difficult for them to get to him because he has surrounded himself with a bunch of people."

Speaking further, Amacree revealed that DSS also possessed intelligence on Maina's whereabouts but the feud between the acting EFCC Chairman, Mr. Ibrahim Magu, and the DSS boss, Lawal Daura, might be preventing the two agencies from cooperating.

"The EFCC is looking for him but it was claimed that the DSS was protecting him and so intelligence will not be shared. The break in synergy did not start today. Remember that Magu was supposed to be confirmed by the Senate and he hasn't been confirmed till now because of a letter from the DSS. So, there is no love lost between them."

He said there was a general belief that President Buhari was fully aware of Maina's reinstatement.

The former DSS assistant director wondered why Mr President would go ahead to reinstate Maina after the Head of Service of the Federation, Winifred Oyo-Ita, warned him against it.
"The HoS said she advised the President not to reinstate Maina. So, let someone come out and tell us the truth.
"You can see the anger in the HoS. Apparently she feels they are dragging her into something she was not aware of. So, it was her way of expressing that this is wrong."

People Rushing To Akure To Consult ‘Wonder Baby’ Born With Healing Powers

Posted: 03 Nov 2017 02:41 AM PDT

The birth of a 'wonder boy', simply referred to as 'Daddy Samuel', in Akure, the Ondo state capital, has turned the residence of his parents into a sort of miracle healing centre.

People from far and near have been besieging the house daily to seek spiritual assistance from the two month-old baby said to have spoken in the cradle – two weeks after birth.

Samuel, whose parents claimed was born with a bunch of leaves bonded by a strand of hair, was said to possess a special healing power...

Mr Olusola Ajayi, Samuel's father, said: "My wife gave birth on the 28th of August after a bunch of leaves came out of her womb and we were amazed after he began to talk, charging us to proclaim his coming to the world."

According to the parents, mysterious powers of Samuel, born at a Comprehensive Health Centre in Akure, became noticeable when a bunch of leaves was said to have preceded his coming out of the mother's womb.

"Two weeks later, Samuel shocked us and his three older brothers when he instructed us to proclaim his coming to the world," Ajayi said.

However, the baby did not talk when NAN visited, and neither could the parents show the said bunch of leaves nor play the recording of the boy's speech that was being circulated round town. Yet, they insisted on his miraculous birth.

The parents, who recently relocated from Lagos, said they had made several attempts to abort the boy's pregnancy due to economic hardship in the upkeep of the three boys they had before Samuel. Some of the visitors who visited the house said they were there to satisfy their curiosity and to seek spiritual assistance.

Pastor's side of the story
Pastor Gabriel Oluwadamilare of Celestial Church of Christ (CCC) Shalom Parish, Ikorodu, Lagos State described the baby as a true messenger of God.

Oluwadamilare said that circumstances that surrounded the birth of new born baby also happened in the Bible.

"I actually came to see the glory and I have no doubt about it. My stand is that what happened is true because nothing is impossible for God to do.

"I have come to seek spiritual solution in respect of a lady who has visited several hospitals in Lagos over bone problems in the last five years.

"There is nothing fetish about the boy coming to the world with a bunch of leaves, it is just a sign from God," the pastor noted.

One of the workers at the place, Maruf Akande, also known as Alfa, said the whole situation was a wonder to him, saying that the baby started speaking when he was two weeks old.

According to Akande, who claimed to be the manager of the spiritual centre, people have been coming to the place for the past one month, and the baby's parents have not rested due to the huge crowd that keeps coming.

"The service rendered was free initially but we have started collecting a consultation fee of N500 per head with a view to reducing the crowd. yet they keep coming.

"People who need help come from far places – Lagos, Abuja and even overseas and they can testify to God's glory.

"For instance, a woman came from Abuja with three years pregnancy but she gave birth inside a bus conveying her back to Abuja after taking sachet water given to her here.

"The baby only spoke twice and since then he has transfered the spirit to his mother who can heal anyone each time she carried the baby to her bosom.

"The whole thing started when this baby Samuel started saying after two weeks that his parents should announce his glory to the whole world," Akande said.

A woman at the venue, Mrs Aina Bello, said that her husband was a beneficiary of the 'wonder boy'. Bello said her husband was ill for six days to the extent that some hospitals rejected him since they did not have a solution to his illness.

"We just discovered that my husband collapsed, all his body system became abnormal and he was in that position for six days. "We have spent about N45,000 in different hospitals but the situation remained the same. Even some rejected him.

"But thanks to baby Samuel that God used to heal my husband. Samuel's mother just told me, having received inspiration from baby Samuel, to give him sachet water and instructed me to give alms, which I did. To my surprise, when I did as was instructed, my husband just got healed. He can walk and do normal things now," she said.

According to NAN, The birth of Samuel had also boost economic activities in the area.

8 ‘House of Cards’ employees accuse Kevin Spacey of sexual assault | Mr Olumide's Blog

Posted: 03 Nov 2017 02:32 AM PDT

Eight Netflix employees have accused Kevin Spacey of creating a "toxic" work environment on the set of "House of Cards."

The employees, who all made the allegations anonymously to CNN, claim the actor targeted young, male staffers with "predatory" behavior including "nonconsensual touching and crude comments."

One production assistant claimed that he was driving Spacey to the set when the actor put his hands down the assistant's pants.

"I was in a state of shock," he told CNN. "He was a man in a very powerful position on the show and I was someone very low on the totem pole and on the food chain there."

Another crew member claims Spacey routinely touched him without consent.

"He would put his hands on me in weird ways," the crew member told CNN.

"He would come in and massage my shoulders from behind or put his hands around me or touch my stomach sometimes in weird ways that in normal everyday conversation would not be appropriate."

Netflix told the outlet that it had sent a representative to the set Monday, but was aware of only one incident five years ago.

Actress Paz de la Huerta accuses Harvey Weinstein of raping her twice | Mr Olumide's Blog

Posted: 03 Nov 2017 02:32 AM PDT

The NYPD is investigating a third set of sexual assault allegations against Harvey Weinstein — this time from actress Paz de la Huerta, who accused the fallen movie mogul of raping her in 2010, authorities said Thursday.

De la Huerta came forward 10 days ago, telling NYPD investigators Weinstein raped her in lower Manhattan on two occasions that year, police sources said.

The sources said investigators also have corroborating evidence of the assaults but did not specify what it is.

However, de la Huerta told Vanity Fair that she shared the information about the assaults with her therapist. That therapist recently gave the actress a letter providing her memories of those sessions, she said.

Rose McGowan claims Harvey Weinstein's team offered her $1M
Manhattan District Attorney Cy Vance Jr. has assigned a senior sex crimes prosecutor to the case, spokeswoman Joan Vollero said. "The office has been working with our partners in the NYPD since the new allegations came to light," Vollero said.

De la Huerta, 33, told CBS News and Vanity Fair that the first attack took place after Weinstein offered to give her a ride to her Tribeca home after a party at the Standard, High Line hotel in Manhattan in October 2010.
The "Boardwalk Empire" star said the producer insisted they have drinks and ended up inside her apartment.

The "Enter the Void" actress said that's when Weinstein took off her dress and forced himself on her. "He pushed me on the bed. He unzipped his pants and it happened all very suddenly," de la Huerta told CBS News.

Weinstein allegedly showed up in the lobby of de la Huerta's apartment building on Dec. 23, 2010, again made his way into her apartment and raped her a second time, she told CBS.

De la Huerta is one of more than 50 women to accuse Weinstein of sexual harassment, assault or rape.

Parents of OAU Student Speak On Daughter’s "Controversial Suicide"

Posted: 03 Nov 2017 01:36 AM PDT

The parents of Mercy Afolaranmi, the student of the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile Ife, who died in a controversial circumstance last Thursday, have called on the leadership of the Osun State Police Command to investigate the death of their daughter.

The parents, who spoke with Punch yesterday, rejected reports that Mercy committed suicide, saying she had told them that she would return home on the day she was alleged to have taken poison.

It had been reported that 16-year-old Mercy killed herself after allegedly getting a poor grade in a compulsory 100-level first semester course.

There had been speculations that the Ekiti State indigene took rat killer mixed with a black substance after getting an E in CHM 101 and was rushed to a private hospital where she died.

Our correspondent had reported a Facebook post by her brother, Timothy, who raised doubts over the claim, saying she was a devout Christian who would not contemplate suicide.

Findings revealed that Mercy was a worker at the OAU Deeper Life Campus Fellowship, the campus arm of the Deeper Christian Life Ministry, where her parents were leaders.

Her mother, Mrs. Elizabeth Afolaranmi, said Mercy called her on Tuesday to announce that she would be coming home for a seminar in Ado Ekiti.

She said, "On Tuesday, she called me and said she was coming home to deliver a paper at a seminar for some teachers. She said the group would foot the bills for her transport and feeding.

"On Wednesday, around 2pm, I decided to call her telephone line to know if she was on the way. When I called, her roommate picked the call. She said my daughter was sleeping and I asked if she was not coming home again. She said she was not coming home because she was ill. She said my daughter was sleeping and she had also shut the door on herself.

"Around 6pm, I called back and it was the same girl that picked. She said Mercy was still asleep and her door was locked. I told her to go and knock the door and tell her that her mother wanted to speak to her. She said my daughter replied that she would speak with me later.

"Around 7.30pm, I called again and she said it appeared like my daughter had taken rat poison because she was vomiting. I asked how she knew since she was not with her. She said the smell of the poison had got to where she was. I was alarmed and asked her to get people to force open the door. She said she had done that and the door had been opened."

The victim's mother said the friend demanded N20,000 which was requested for Mercy's admission to a private hospital where she was rushed to, adding that the phone later went off.

Elizabeth said when she got to the hospital on Thursday, some Mercy's friends observed that her pulse was weak.

She said her daughter was taken to the Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospital where she was rejected, as the doctors said it was too late.

"I was weeping and praying for her return to life. I clutched to her. The hospital workers said I should go to the mortuary to continue my prayers and I did. Later, some church members asked me to let go of the body after they also offered some prayers.

"My daughter was a child of God. She became born again at a tender age. How can she kill herself? She died atop the note she made for the lecture she was to deliver in Ado Ekiti. People thought it was a suicide note and they gave it to the police as evidence of her suicide. But when we got to the station and the Divisional Police Officer opened it, we all saw that it was the note she made for the lecture. They did not allow my daughter to fulfil her mission in life. They cut short her life.

"She didn't kill herself; she was murdered. She made soap on Monday, which is still in her room. She was going to sell the soap. If she wanted to die, she could have used the soap chemicals," she added.

Mercy's father, Matthew Afolaranmi, said his daughter was taught as a Christian to know that suicide would take her to hell.

He said, "She knew that anybody that kills himself or herself is going to hell fire. When I got to her school, the testimonies I heard from brethren confirmed what I have always known. Even though she was staying outside campus, she never allowed anything to distract her from the things of God. Before the incident, she met the president of her fellowship for counselling on her spiritual life. So, how could such a thing happen and the next thing is for her to kill herself? All the circumstances around this case show there was no way she would kill herself. A girl that was coming home and then she suddenly killed herself. How?"

Although the autopsy report had been released, the deceased's family had yet to access it.

The brother of the victim, Timothy, said the police were unenthusiastic about the case because they had concluded that his sister committed suicide.

He appealed to the police to look into the matter and give his sister justice.

Posted: 03 Nov 2017 01:36 AM PDT

Top five EFCC Detectives are to investigate allegations against ex-Secretary to the Government of the Federation Babachir David Lawal.

The team, which was formed yesterday, expects him to respond to eight posers...

Lawal may be invited for interrogation alongside seven others.

Tthe Special Investigative Committee will invite Lawal after the preliminary review of the reports of the Presidential Investigative Committee, headed by Vice -President Yemi Osinbajo and the Senate Ad-hoc Committee on Mounting Humanitarian Crisis in the Northeast, led by Senator Shehu Sani.

The Nation reports that Lawal is being probed for "contract scandal, violation of Public Procurement Act, abuse of office and mismanagement of funds."

A source said: "Our team is set and we have isolated 7 issues for Lawal to respond to. Both Osinbajo's Committee and the Senate Ad hoc Committee recommended the prosecution of all those involved in the alleged contract scam in the Presidential Initiative in the Northeast."

A document obtained last night revealed the areas to be clarified by Lawal, some companies and PINE officials. They are:
  • Why did PINE pay 95%-100% contract sums for projects yet to be executed?
  • How much was PINE's contributions to two conferences on rebuilding the Northeast?
  • What informed the award of and purported payment of a N223million consultancy contract for the removal of invasive plant species in Komadugu, Yobe Water Channels to the ex-SGF's company?
  • Why was Section 43(iii) and (iv) of the Public Procurement Act 2007 ignored by PINE?
  • Could it be true that all the contracts awarded by PINE had no direct bearing to the needs of the Internally Displaced Persons?
  • Who recommended the engagement of Rholavision Engineering Limited belonging to a then serving government official, Babachir Lawal?
  • Is it true that Rholavision was incorporated in 1990 to carry out ICT services instead of agro services?
  • Was Lawal a signatory to Rholavision's account as at the time of the award of the consultancy contract? Was he a director of the same firm till September 2016 while in office as SGF?

Ladan Baba, the NYSC coordinator in the state, disclosed this on Thursday in an interview with NAN on the passing out of the Batch 'B' stream one corps members.

"Eight out of the 21 corps members are from the Stream one, 13 of them are from the Stream 2 while 10 corps members would repeat few weeks or months," he said.

He explained that the affected corps members were punished for either absconding from their places of primary assignment or they were absent for more than three months without permission or any concrete reason.

Ladan said 2,574 corps members passed out from batch 'B' Stream 1, describing them as one of the best set they had in recent time.

He added that 13 of the Stream 1 members have excelled and some of them would receive commendation certificates while others would receive the state's honours award.

Those that would receive commendation letters and awards performed wonderfully during the service year at either their places of primary assignments or host communities.

"The efforts of those corps members that excelled have been tremendous because of their contributions to national unity, social integration and development of the state and the country in general," he said.

According to him, four of them recently participated at a national event on skills acquisition, which they were given certificates.

Also in Anambra, sixteen corps members are to repeat their service year while three others will serve various terms of disciplinary measures.

Ebenezer Olawale, Anambra state coordinator, said no formal passing out ceremony was held in the state. He said certificates were issued at the various local government NYSC offices.
