Crazed 27 year old fatally stabs grandmother, then cradles the dying woman | Mr Olumide's Blog Posted: 28 Nov 2017 02:56 AM PST A deranged man fatally stabbed a Staten Island grandmother just a block from her home Monday afternoon and then cradled the dying woman's body until police arrived, authorities said. Dantey Moore, 27, repeatedly knifed Geetha Howie, 63, in her face and chest, then slashed a neighbor who rushed outside to help, cop sources said. Police said Moore lives a few blocks from where Howie was knifed at Bement Ave. and Bement Court in Randall Manor, but they believe she and her alleged killer were strangers. Moore suffered from bouts of rage, and had been hospitalized for abusing the drug angel dust, two of his sisters told the Daily News. "His anger was just building, building," said one sibling, Cynthia Toye, 23. Recently, she added, he'd been fighting with his girlfriend. "He's just so stubborn, he thinks he has it under control, but we've seen him snap plenty of times. ... He'll put holes in the wall." Both of Moore's sisters said they'd never heard of Howie before Monday. The assailant has been arrested 34 times since 2007, and he's been busted in several domestic violence-related incidents, police sources said. Neighborhood resident Mark Long said he heard screaming about 2:15 p.m. and went outside, where he encountered a horrific sight. "The hand was going up and down ... his hand was holding a knife and that's when I realized he's stabbing and I said, 'Hey, stop!'" Long recounted. "The guy stood up, he lunged at me, swung his knife out. He scored me in the arm." Long, 56, and the attacker backed up and faced each other. "All I could think about is keeping his attention away from the woman. I just kept asking him, 'What's going on? What are you doing? Why are you hurting her?' " Long said. "He didn't really say anything to me at first and finally he said, 'She cheated, she cheated with everyone,' and I didn't really know what that meant."
That's when Moore dropped his knife, crouched down behind Howie and held her, Long said. "He just bent over and put his arms around her and he just stayed there until police and the ambulance showed up," Long said. Medics took Howie to Richmond University Medical Center, where she died about an hour later. He now faces charges of assault, criminal possession of a weapon and murder, police said. culled from MPNB Mr Olumide's Blog

Jonathan Fires Back: "Nigeria's Economy Was Better Under My Administration" Posted: 28 Nov 2017 02:51 AM PST Former president Goodluck Jonathan has replied the chairman of the presidential committee on Anti-corruption, Professor Itse Sagay, who stated recently that Nigerians would have been going to Libya through the Sahara desert if Jonathan had remained in power for 3 more years. Jonathan, in a statement through his aide, Reno Omokri, dismissed Sagay's statements adding that the country's economy was much better under his administration. The statement reads; "World Bank says our economy was better under Jonathan than it is now. Transparency International says corruption is worse today than under Jonathan. The Global Hunger Index says Nigerians are more hungry today than under Jonathan. Nigeria moved from 4th most terrorized nation in the world in 2015 to 3rd most terrorized nation in the Global Terrorism Index for 2017. Furthermore, under President Muhammadu Buhari, the United Nations reveals that there has been a massive increase in the number of Nigerians fleeing Nigeria via the desert with 602,000 leaving annually and 27,000 dying every year either in the Sahara Desert or the Mediterranean Sea. So by what parameter is Sagay using to make his jaundiced judgment? Furthermore, under former President Jonathan, Nigeria was the first nation in the world to evacuate her citizens from Libya during the Arab Spring. Dr. Jonathan would never keep quiet if Nigerians are being sold as slaves in Libya. If President Buhari can call Nigerians "criminals" to the Telegraph of U.K, why should Nigerians be surprised when he does not act to free us from slavery in Libya? Professor Sagay spends too much time poking his nose into other people's affairs and too little focus on his own business, that is why under his watch as chairman of the Presidential Advisory Committee on Anti-Corruption, PACAC, Maina got recalled, reinstated, double promoted and still received salary (according to his lawyer). That is why the Group Managing Director of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, Maikanti Baru, was able to award $25 billion worth of contracts without due process. That is why $40 million was found in an Ikoyi apartment and Nigerians still do not know who the money belongs to.That is why there has been unbridled looting around President Buhari to the extent that the Presidential Clinic at Aso Rock does not have ordinary Panadol, despite the billions allocated to it under President Buhari." culled from Olu famous Mr Olumide's Blog

Foreigners Taking Over Nigeria’s Agric Sector? Posted: 28 Nov 2017 01:26 AM PST Foreigners are taking over Nigeria's agricultural sector as a result of excessively high interest rates being demanded from indigenous agriculturists by Deposit Money Banks, the FG has said. It also stated that the production and sale of crude oil could not salvage the country's fragile economy, adding that revenue generation from oil was too low when compared to what some smaller countries were making from agro exports. Speaking on the sidelines of a seminar organised in Abuja by Danish Embassy in Nigeria on value development in the country's food and agriculture sector, the Minister of State for Agriculture and Rural Development, Senator Heineken Lokpobiri, said the major challenge inhibiting the desired development of the country's agricultural sector was poor access to finance. Lokpobiri stated, "The major challenge bedevilling this industry is access to finance. Agricultural financing in Nigeria is too costly; for even at nine per cent you can't find it. They will ask you for all forms of collateral, the CBN will say bring your father's house, bring this, bring that. "But if you have a company that is ready to support agro investors, then people will invest. If you have access to cheap funds, you will be able to invest on a long term basis. Instead of getting a loan from a commercial bank at 25 to 30 per cent, you can have it at two per cent and pay back in about 30 years. Here, you don't have such funding. That is what we are talking about. "And that is why if you look at it now, foreigners are taking over the agro sector here; either from India, they get it (loan) at three or four per cent, or from Europe at two or three per cent. But here, it is 30 per cent and they (banks) are not even willing to give. The only way you can compete with others is for you to have cheap funds that will reduce your production costs." Lokpobiri explained that the economic system being run in Nigeria over the years had made it possible for the banking sector to hold the country hostage with high interest rates, adding that this was why the government often borrowed less from the domestic market. He said countries that invested in agriculture earned far better than Nigeria, adding that oil production would not salvage the country's economy. The minister added, "Nigerians shouldn't think that we have oil and that oil is going to salvage this country. Countries that are investing in agriculture are getting much more profits than what we get from oil. Do we even get up to $30bn from oil? That is the point. "Denmark, with a population of about five million people and less land mass than Nigeria, has a net agro export worth over €80bn. Now, ask yourself this question, how many billion dollars do we get from oil export? This clearly shows that there is more profit in agro investment than even in oil investment." culled from Olu famous Mr Olumide's Blog
NANS leader, undergraduates arrested for robbery, murder Posted: 28 Nov 2017 01:26 AM PST The Police in Bayelsa have arrested a leader of the National Association of Nigerian Students, Bayelsa state chapter, and 7 other undergraduates in connection with the alleged killing of a student. The Bayelsa NANS leader, Perewari Benjamin, a 400-level student of the state-owned Niger Delta University, Amassoma, was paraded on Monday at the state command's headquarters in Yenagoa with the other suspects... They are Asari Enagob, 400 level; Suoguai Bina, 500 level; Ibe Ogbonna, 300 level; Igbanibo Tari, 400 level; Ekperi Kenneth, 400 level; Kemefie Ebimene, 200 level, all of the Niger Delta University. The eighth suspect, Chukwuma Lawrence, is an HND 2 student at the Imo State Polytechnic. The state Commissioner of Police, Asuquo Amba, lamented the involvement of the students in the alleged murder, adding that they were arrested for armed robbery and suspected cult activities. The commissioner said on November 26, 3 drivers – Ayo Kehinde, Jamiu Salahudeen and Nwanya Chinonso – reported to police that the suspects hijacked their vehicles and robbed them at gunpoint. He claimed that the suspects robbed Kehinde of one Techno phone, valued at N10,000 and the sum of N50,000 cash, while they dispossessed Chinonso of N1,600 cash. Amba said the police recovered arms and ammunition from the suspects, including two locally-made single-barrelled pistol; two live ammunition; five 9mm live ammunition and some charms. On the incident that led to the death of the unnamed student of Federal University, Otuoke, Amba said, "The incident occurred at the Zone B Election for Coordinators of NANS at the Federal University, Otuoke, Bayelsa State, between November 25 and November 26. "Students representing universities and higher institutions in the South-South Zone resorted to the use of firearms, which led to the death of the student. The students also involved themselves in robbery against innocent citizens. "This leaves one to wonder about the future of our great nation. The development calls for a drastic action to curb this menace and a complete reorientation of our youths." One of the drivers, Kehinde, an indigene of Modakeke in Osun State, said around 10am on Saturday, the day of the election, four of the students hired buses from him at Amassoma Motor Park. He said, "Four of the students came to Amassoma Park on Saturday, around 10am and said they needed three buses. We agreed for N8,000 per bus. When they boarded the buses, they said they wanted to pick some persons from Biogbolo. "When we got there (Biogbolo), they said there were some persons at Ebis they wanted to pick. By the time we got to Ebis, we picked some persons. After that, I asked them to pay my money. They said their boss was on Isaac Boro Expressway and that when we got there, they would pay. By the time we got there, we did not see anybody. They said their boss was in the Aritalin area. It was then I told them I was not going to Aritalin. "One of them said I was talking rubbish and he slapped me. As he slapped me, others joined him and they started beating me and my brothers. One of them dipped his hand into my pocket and took the N50,000 I wanted to send to my wife in Lagos to pay my children's school fees. He took the money and my ATM card, phone and seized my vehicle key. One of them brought out a gun and used the butt to hit my head." He said as blood gushed out of his head, the students left with his brother, whom they forced to drive them. He was in that condition when he sighted a patrol van of operatives of the State Anti-Robbery Squad approaching. He said he flagged down the van and narrated what happened to him to the SARS men, who gave the buses conveying the students a chase and caught up with them, leading to their arrest. culled from Olu famous Mr Olumide's Blog

Fayose, Falana Trade Words Over Abuja N1bn Property Posted: 28 Nov 2017 12:51 AM PST Governor of Ekiti State, Ayodele Fayose, has criticised human rights lawyer, Mr. Femi Falana (SAN), over the allegation by the Attorney General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami (SAN), linking the lawyer to a N1bn property on Gana Street, Maitama, Abuja. Fayose said it was embarrassing, shameful, disgraceful that a man of Falana's standing, reputed to be a human rights activist, could be linked to such a scandal. The embattled former chairman of the defunct Pension Reform Task Team, Abdulrasheed Maina, had accused Falana of buying the building which was one of the properties he helped to seize from suspected pension thieves and handed over to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission. Malami had while testifying before the National Assembly last week, echoed the allegation, saying the property was sold to a 'Lagos lawyer.' Reacting in a statement on Monday, Fayose said it was sad and shameful that Falana could be "cited in such an odious, obscene, and offensive conduct." He said it was not surprising that Falana had taken it upon himself to always defend EFCC, even when the anti-graft agency acted lawlessly, since the lawyer was allegedly benefitting from them. Fayose said, "Linking Falana to illegally-acquired properties seized by the EFCC is bad enough but the facts provided by Malami make the case against Falana even worse. This must be the real reason why Falana always fall head over heels in defence of the EFCC and Magu, not minding the vicious violations of the constitutionally-guaranteed rights, freedoms, and liberties of citizens. "What we have always suspected has now been confirmed publicly and by no less a person as the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice. "Falana's alleged unprincipled and disgusting defence of the EFCC and Magu's penchant for disrespect of the rule of law and due process is for selfish reasons and personal gain." Fayose said the Federal Government must investigate Falana and not allow the matter be swept under the carpet. But reacting to the call for his probe by Fayose, Falana, in a phone interview with Punch, lambasted the governor for failing to pay attention to his earlier explanation on his connection with the property. He challenged Fayose and the AGF to approach the court to seek a forfeiture order on property if they were sure it was proceeds of crime. Falana said, "I stand by my defence that I never bought the house from the EFCC and I challenge him (Fayose) and the Attorney General to show the evidence. I challenge the garrulous Governor of Ekiti State to prove the monstrous allegation that I bought a house from the EFCC." He added, "Since Mr. Ayo Fayose has not paid attention to the fact and circumstances of the case, I advise him to study my explanation that the house in question is a subject matter of a pending suit before the Federal High Court and that the house has been forfeited to AMCON in the interim. "The EFCC is not a party to the case. So, if Mr. Ayo Fayose wants to join the suit, he's free, he is at liberty to approach the Federal High Court holding at Abuja to prove his allegation. But his is a case of Ajegbodo to nweni kun'ra. (The one recklessly eating fresh yam will always want to co-opt others into the deal). "As of today, he has already forfeited six houses to the government of Nigeria. So, if he is sure that that this is proceeds of crime, he should apply to have it forfeited. He should contact the Attorney General to apply to have the house forfeited, if they are sure that the house is proceeds of crime." Falana said the governor had been looking for a way to attack him "since I pressured the state to charge Mr. Fayose and his armed goons with the cold-blooded murder of Dr. Ayo Daramola and Tunde Omojola." culled from Olu famous Mr Olumide's Blog
Lagos Banker Allegedly Tortures Wife To Death Posted: 28 Nov 2017 12:51 AM PST Some people are going through a lot but they find it difficult to seek for help, thinking that things will somehow sort themselves. If life works that way, everyone will be ok today. But it doesn't. A bank staff, Olaoluwa Adejo, has been arrested by Lagos Police Command for the death of his 28-year-old wife, Maureen, at their home on Peluola Street, Oworonshoki, in Bariga area of the state. The 32-year-old Lagos indigene was alleged to have tortured his wife of five years with a belt, as well as cutting her with a machete. Their five-year-old son, Richard, in whose presence the incident reportedly happened, told Punch that his father also forced a local insecticide, otapiapia, down the throat of his mother. "I am Richard Adejo. I am five years old. My daddy beat my mummy with a belt; machete her here (shows arms), machete her here (shows legs). He used the belt on her here (points at face); forced my mummy to drink otapiapia (insecticide). My daddy took my mummy away. "My daddy said my mummy should get out of the house. My mummy said no. In the night, my daddy woke my mummy up and said, 'Mosquito is too much, let me go and buy otapiapia'. My daddy forced my mummy to drink it. She shook her head. She vomited. "My daddy slapped my mummy. My mummy did not do anything to him. My daddy gave her one blow. My daddy kicked her. My daddy told her to get out of the house and carry her load. Small blood came out. My daddy slapped her, kicked her, machete her, blow her, and put otapiapia in her mouth and in the food," little Richard said during the interview on Monday. The victim's mother, Mrs. Kate Jonathan, told Punch that Richard had given more graphic details of the incident to family members, police authorities and officials of the Lagos State Ministry of Justice. She explained that her daughter had packed out of her matrimonial house five days to the incident and was living with her when she decided to return for a party at the children's school. She said she never returned alive. She said, "I was called on the telephone by an unknown number around 4pm on Sunday, November 12. The caller said, 'Your daughter's husband has killed her at Oworo'. He dropped the call. "Around 5pm when I got to their house, I discovered that the house was locked up. There were two boys guarding the house and they refused to open the door to me, saying the owner of the house instructed them not to open the door. "I didn't see my daughter or her husband. I was begging them to open the door when I saw Richard jumping up through the window. He saw me and asked the boys to open the door, but they refused. "I broke the louvers of the window. The boy climbed a stool and said from inside, 'my father has killed my mother and taken her away'." She said she reported the case at the Oworonshoki Police Station, where she was told that the suspect had already reported that his wife committed suicide by taking local insecticide, Sniper. Mrs. Jonathan said after making her statement, she left the station. The Punch was told that Olaoluwa had already deposited the body of his wife in the Gbagada General Hospital mortuary and had allegedly gone to obtain court documents to enable him to bury her. It was learnt that he was asked to return to the police station for a certain document, which led to his arrest based on his mother-in-law's complaint. The suspect has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department. However, the couple's three children were said to have been taken to a family friend, a policeman, who lived in Agric, in the Ikorodu area. Due to the insistence of the mother-in-law, the police were said to have demanded the release of the couple's first child, Richard, for interrogation. In a meeting at the SCIID, Yaba, Richard was alleged to have given an account of how his mother was allegedly murdered by his father. The police reportedly ordered the removal of the corpse from the Gbagada General Hospital mortuary to the morgue of the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital, Ikeja. The victim's mother, Mrs. Jonathan, who claimed to have visited the mortuary, said Maureen's body had machete cuts and other torture marks. She said, "My daughter, who worked as the manager of my chemical company had, about a week to the incident, complained that her husband said we would soon see her obituary. "I sent my eldest daughter to accompany her to the house to know what happened. The man begged and said he was only joking. He said he really loved his wife. I insisted that she pack out of the house. "She was in my house for three days before she said she wanted to return home because her children's school would be having a cultural party. She left and went to the party with her husband on Saturday. It was that night that she was brutalised and killed by the husband. From what we saw in the mortuary, she had blood in her nostrils and deep cuts in her hands and legs." The victim's mother asked that Maureen's three children, namely, Richard, five; Henry, three; and Omowunmi, six months, be released to her. The policeman with the couple's two children, Ajisafe, said he believed Olaoluwa did not kill his wife. He explained that the suspect's aged mother handed over the children to him for safekeeping. The 83-year-old mother of the suspect, Florence Adejo, also denied that her son murdered Maureen. She said, "He came to knock on the door of my house late that night. He fell on the ground and started weeping and lamenting that his wife had destroyed him. A crowd gathered in front of the house where I am the landlady. They tried to console him. He said his wife took Sniper. He said he thought it was a joke until their son, Richard, went to bring the container of the insecticide. "She was taken to a private hospital where she was initially rejected before she was taken to the general hospital where she died. I was told her mother sells the insecticide and she brought it home for mosquitoes. Why she decided to drink it is what is beyond my understanding. My son said they didn't have any disagreement between them and she was not mentally ill." The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Chike Oti, said investigations were ongoing into the incident. He said, "The man came to report that his wife committed suicide. The DPO put some questions to him. We thought we should investigate further to know what really happened because there are some doubts we need to clear in the matter. The police are not accepting the claim of suicide hook, line, and sinker. The matter is at the SCIID and investigations are ongoing." culled from Olu famous Mr Olumide's Blog
