Only heartless people will defend Maryam - Shehu Shagari's grandson reacts | Mr Olumide's Blog

Posted: 23 Nov 2017 04:18 AM PST

Shehu Shagari's grandson Mohammed Bello Shagari,  has reacted to the news of Bilyamin Muhammed Bello, who was stabbed to death in his sleep by his wife Maryam Sanda, According to Mohammed, anyone who defends Maryam is heartless.

"Only a stupid person can stand to defend Maryam who have stabbed her husband thrice to death. And only a foolish person would think that the world would believe it was a fight. And only a heartless person would say he deserved death for whatever reason.

In case you do not even know, she reportedly stabbed him near a prayer mat which he often used to perform sallah. So she either killed him while he was praying or when he finished or about to start. Because she can't overpower him.

For those who are also trying to say that it was a drug influence. Even the worse enemy of Bilya knows it is a bad argument to be brought forth. Because Bilya does not smoke even cigarette which some of our fathers and mothers smoke decently.

Yes, he smokes shisha like most of your children, brothers and sisters. And shisha is not toxic. Perhaps, it is something else. The husband killer too is not known for drugs. She's simply a spoiled brat who thought she can get away with anything including murder. She reportedly was saying that he deserved what he got.

And finally, beware, anybody defending the actions of that dark soul woman is capable of doing the same."

Posted: 23 Nov 2017 03:22 AM PST

The Police in Oyo State has arrested an Islamic cleric and two others (names withheld) in possession of two fresh human heads and legs. The Commissioner of Police, Abiodun Odude, presented the suspects to newsmen in Ibadan on Wednesday.
CP Odude said that the suspects confessed to have severed the body parts from corpses at a Muslim cemetery in Isale General Area, Ogbomoso.
He said the suspects were arrested by the Special Anti-Robbery Squad of the command on Nov. 11, following a tip-off by a member of the public.

"The three young men informed the police that their unbridled desires to get rich quick prompted them to get the human parts for money ritual purpose,'' he said.

The cleric told newsmen that this was his first attempt of using human parts for money rituals.

"I was told that the preparation of using human parts for ritual is simple and one will become very rich,'' he said.

The commissioner also presented a runaway killer of a member of Oyo State House of Assembly, Gideon Aremu, representing Oorelope Constituency.

Aremu was killed on July 1, 2016 at his Alakia residence. The CP said the suspect, who escaped to Ekiti, his country home, shortly after committing the act, had been on the Police wanted list.

"Nemesis caught up with the suspect when he was arrested in his criminal hideout after sneaking into the state and led another armed robbery gang to snatch a motorcycle from its owner at Egbeda area of the state.

"The suspect and two others operating a motorcycle also robbed two other victims of their valuable property including cash.

"A Bajaj Boxer Motocycle with Reg. No AYJ 038 QM which was snatched at gun point was recovered from the suspects," Odude said.

The commissioner also presented 16 other suspects over alleged armed robbery, cult activities and fraud. He said that the suspects had confessed to the crimes and would be arraigned in court after conclusion of police.

New IPOB Leader, Ezenachukwu, says "Nnamdi Kanu Fled To London"

Posted: 23 Nov 2017 02:22 AM PST

The new acclaimed leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, Ezenachukwu Okwudili, has now disclosed the whereabouts of Nnamdi Kanu.

Okwudili claimed on Tuesday that the fugitive ex-leader of the pro-Biafra group fled to London using his British passport. In a broadcast on Radio Biafra, Okwudili said,

"Those who benefited from inciting young Igbo youth to violence and death, the time of reckoning has come."

"We are putting an end to blood-shed while continuing with our struggle. Kanu has fled to London using his British passport and he is hiding after our successful takeover of the Radio and IPOB Leadership."

The radio broadcast also accused Law Mefor, the brother of Uche Mefor, Kanu's former deputy, of collecting money from Igbo traders and businessmen as under the pretence of being IPOB's treasurer and converting same into his personal use.

He said, "Those who live by the sword know the final judgment, therefore people like Uche Mefor and his brother Mr Law Mefor along with Emma Powerful, should know that like the Robert Mugabe era, the Nnamdi Kanu era has come to an end.

"The time when rabble-rousers loot IPOB treasury, share it with their family and friends has come and gone.

"Money collected so far is in excess of N300million and we are still counting as information about contributors continue to trickle in."

"I Want To Be A Farmer", says Nigerian lady with First Class in Computer Science

Posted: 23 Nov 2017 01:42 AM PST

All roads led to McPherson University in Seriki-Sotayo, Ogun State, as the faith-based institution held its 2nd convocation where four ladies finished with First Class. Ibrahim Adeyemi reports.

The sleepy host community of McPherson University, established by the Foursquare Gospel Church in Nigeria, came alive last Saturday for the school's second convocation where 46 graduates received their first degree.

Four of them – all ladies – finished with First Class; a feat that earned them coveted academic prizes and accolades from the large audience that graced the event.
Miss Faith Onyekachukwu Ojumah, the Overall Best Graduating Student, who finished with a Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 4.84, became emotional after she stepped out to receive her prizes.
Being the first born in the family of three, the 19-year-old had promised her mother she would make her proud whenever she completes her university degree.

Sadly, Faith's mother was missing at the graduation. She died years before Faith got admitted into the school. But her mother's absence could not deter her father, a poultry farmer, from sharing the joy.

Faith, who received four academic prizes, said her desire was to become the best in her class through "strong will and pure determination" to make her parents proud.

"I was surprised the results of our final year examination were released and I found out that I would be graduating with the highest CGPA. I believe my mom would be proud of this wherever she is now, because it is a promise I made to her. I am only sad that she is no longer with us to witness what I have achieved today," Faith said in an emotion-laden voice.

Speaking with Campus Life, Faith said her dream to become a computer scientist could have been truncated by finance. She said her father, a low-income earner, took up the responsibility and struggled to make her and her twin siblings comfortable.

She said: "After my mom passed on, things were difficult for the family because the responsibility to raise me and my siblings fell on my father. Sometimes, dad would get stressed up trying to raise money for his personal projects and for our upkeep. Finance became the main challenge.

"One fact about being a student is that, if you are hungry, it won't be possible for you to read and assimilate. Each time I felt the impact of this inadequate finance, I would want to give up on schooling, but I bore the pain because there was no reason to surrender. All of these reinforced my determination to succeed and also taught me to be a strong-willed lady with focus on excellence."

What next after a degree in Computer Science? Faith said her plan was to become an agricultural entrepreneur and not to work for anyone. She has already created a team of software developers with the aim using their computing expertise to bring about revolution in the nation's agricultural sector.

Delivering the convocation lecture titled: Reconstructing the shattered education mirror: Hard choices we cannot side step, former Executive Secretary of the National Universities Commission (NUC), Prof Peter Okebukola, examined the reason the country's education was not anchored on job creation.

According to him, Nigeria's education is anchored on "sinking, sandy shores". Okebukola, who is the Pro-chancellor of Crawford University, said there was need for urgent reforms in tertiary education, given the widespread youth unemployment and what he described as "unimpressive on-the-job performance" of those who got employment.

He listed policy related challenges, outdated curriculum, poor facilities and rigid administrative and management routines as some of the factors responsible for the rot in the education.

He said: "The current education policy expects that the school curriculum at all levels and its implementation should be steered towards entrepreneurship and inculcate values that will foster better service delivery.

"The non-specificity and clarity of intention of this national policy on the direction the education system should take on job creation and service delivery and the weak inter-linkage with other national policies, such as those of science and technology, labour, employment and the service delivery charters, account in large part, for the inability of the education system to respond more forcefully to tackling the challenge of youth unemployment through education.

"If this national policy, in its present imperfect state, was to be implemented to the full, the gap between where we are now and where we should be with regard to job creation and service delivery, would have been significantly narrowed."

Okebukola noted that education curricula at all levels were rich in content, but he added that they were found to be overloaded in the wrong areas.

He added: "The teacher factor would appear to be one of the most significant in the discussion on inhibitions to production of youth with job creation and good service delivery potentialities. Many teachers have shallow knowledge of their teaching subjects and worse still, shallower knowledge and skills in entrepreneurship to positively influence their students. The paradigm of preparation of these teachers largely accounts for this sad situation.

"We admit mainly people who are academically weak and emotionally unwilling into teacher education programmes. With low self-esteem and minimum motivational propelling power, these teacher trainees are corralled like sheep through the machinery of the teacher preparation process and come out ill-trained and ill-suited for the challenges of 21st Century teaching in a country aspiring to be one of the 20 largest economies by 2020."

Prof Okebukola said modern facilities were required for effective delivery of a job-creation curriculum, adding that there was need to review curriculum at all levels to remove topics which he called "junk".

In conclusion, he said: "The value system of our society has been severely compromised. The education system is looked up to as a tool for values re-orientation. All schools should be part of the crusade to inculcate the right values in the youth and adults. Values, such as honesty, diligence, love for country, respect for elders, hard work, ethnic and religious tolerance should be inculcated through appropriate curricular and co-curricular delivery systems."

The Vice-Chancellor (VC), Prof Niyi Agunbiade, said the school had raised the bar of excellence in the delivery of quality education despite being a nascent tertiary institution. Through dedication to quality and excellence, the VC said members of staff of the school had won several local and international academic laurels.

Agunbiade urged the graduates to be brave and be good ambassadors of the school. He told them to take the risk and use their expertise to create jobs.

The Visitor to the school and General Overseer of Foursquare Gospel Church in Nigeria, Reverend Felix Meduoye, told the graduands that they were privileged to be trained in the faith-based school, which had "divine mandate to build a people of excellence and integrity" for service.

He said:"Your training at McPherson University has imbued the traits of a champion in you. As you go into the market place, the resilience of Christ already built inside of you will conquer for you all Goliaths that may be awaiting you."

EFCC/DSS clash: Sagay, Falana slam DSS for stopping arrest of Oke, Ekpeyong

Posted: 23 Nov 2017 12:57 AM PST

The Presidency is still waiting for reports on what transpired between the officials of the Department of State Services and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission in Abuja on Tuesday.

Officials of the sister agencies were involved in a showdown when the EFCC operatives attempted to arrest a former Director General of DSS, Ita Ekpeyong; and a former DG of the National Intelligence Agency, Ambassador Ayo Oke.

The issue of the face-off came up at the weekly meeting of the Federal Executive Council presided over by President Muhammadu Buhari on Wednesday.

A cabinet member, who spoke on condition of anonymity, told Punch that council members resolved that the issue could only be handled properly after the submission of official reports by the agencies.

The heads of the two agencies are not members of FEC.

He said, "The issue came up during the 'Any Other Business' segment of the council meeting today (Wednesday). The truth of the matter is that as of the time of the meeting, the only information available to the government on the issue was the media report on the matter.

"Government's business is not operated in that manner. So, the resolution was that we will wait for official reports from the affected agencies.

"That, I am sure, will be coming in very soon."

Report DSS to Buhari, Sagay tells Magu
But the Chairman, Presidential Advisory Committee Against Corruption, Prof. Itse Sagay (SAN), advised Magu to report what transpired between the EFCC and officials of the DSS to the President.

Sagay, in an interview with one of our correspondents on Wednesday, said Magu should write a letter on the clash between the EFCC and the DSS to Buhari.

Officials of the DSS and EFCC were involved in a showdown for over 13 hours on Tuesday when the EFCC operatives arrived at the homes of a former Director General of the DSS, Ita Ekpenyong, and an ex-boss of the National Intelligence Agency, Ayo Oke, to arrest them.

Ekpenyong, who served as the head of the DSS from 2010 to 2015, had been invited by the EFCC for his alleged role in the arms scam involving a former National Security Adviser, Col. Sambo Dasuki (retd.), and other service chiefs who have since been arraigned.

Sagay said, "I think the EFCC should refer the matter to the President so that he can take action because the President is the overall boss and if people are misbehaving like that, preventing agencies from doing their work, then there should be a penalty for misconduct."

The PACAC chairman also described the fiasco as unfortunate, adding that no one was above the law.

Sagay said, "We all know that the law empowers the EFCC to investigate, arrest and prosecute and they have the right to interrogate and invite you and if you refuse to come, they can arrest you. So, anybody, who refuses, that is engaging in lawlessness and is trying to turn the country into a chaotic state of lawlessness which is certainly not good for the country.

"No one is immune from arrest except the President, Vice-President, governor and deputy governor."

Sagay disagreed with those saying the EFCC should have written to the DSS before attempting to arrest the former DG.

He said, "The DSS procedures do not supersede the laws of the land. The EFCC Act does not require the agency writing to anybody first. They cannot make a law that supersedes that of the National Assembly. The excuses of the DSS are just a way of covering up sheer lawlessness."

It's flagrant disregard for court order – SAN
On his part, a human rights lawyer, Femi Falana (SAN), berated the DSS for obstructing the EFCC.

He further stated that the incident should not be treated as a mere 'inter-agency face-off' but a flagrant disregard for court orders.

Falana said, "It is wrong to view what occurred as an inter-agency face-off. Since warrants of arrest and search were validly issued by a Magistrate Court, the prevention of the arrest was a clash between impunity and rule of law. The security personnel who shielded the suspects from arrest committed the offence of obstruction of justice punishable under the EFCC Act."

The activist said since the Presidency had said the EFCC was free to investigate the former NIA boss, the DSS had no reason to prevent the anti-graft agency from doing its work.

Also civil rights groups described as shameful, the clash between the officers of DSS and the EFCC.

Ex-Director defends DSS
But a former Director of the DSS, Mr. Mike Ejiofor, said the EFCC had no right to investigate how the DSS funds were spent.

He said the Act establishing the DSS clearly stated that only the President could investigate the agency.

Ejiofor said, "I don't have a problem investigating anybody but due process must be followed. By the DSS Instrument 1 of 1999, no person or agency is empowered to investigate the spending or operational matter of the DSS except the President. It is only the President that can ask for investigation. The DSS makes returns of its spending to the President annually.

"I am surprised with what is happening. We have never had it before. He (Magu) has no power or mandate to investigate the spending of the DSS. It is not done anywhere in the world.

"If he had the power, he should have gone to the DG DSS. Possibly he wants to settle scores because he was indicted by the DSS report which barred his confirmation. It has never happened in the history of this nation before."

No going back on arrest of Ekpeyong, Oke – Magu
Meanwhile, Magu has said there is no going back on the planned arrest of Ekpeyong and Oke.

He said nobody, no matter how highly placed, was above the law of the land.

The EFCC boss spoke after he attended the inauguration of the Audit Committee on the Recovery and Management of Stolen Assets within and Outside Nigeria at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

He claimed that the commission had concrete evidence against the former DSS and NIA heads.

"There must be reasons, strong reasons before we go for an arrest. Never, Never, I am not discouraged at all, rather, it energises me to do more and I am telling you, nobody is above the law," Magu said.

He said he was not discouraged by the Tuesday face-off between his men and DSS officials.

"We are not discouraged at all. The law must take its course, nobody is above the law," he said.

Why DSS stopped the arrest – Source
On Wednesday, the DSS kept mum on the refusal of its operatives to allow the EFCC officials to arrest Ekpeyong and Oke.

But a security source said the EFCC was prevented from arresting Ekpeyong because the anti-graft agency did not follow the due process.

The source stated that the EFCC ought to have written to the DSS on the invitation of Ekpeyong.

"The EFCC knows that the DSS operatives are guarding Ekpeyong. The normal thing is for it to write to the EFCC, instead of resorting to lawlessness. The anti-graft agency should learn to embrace the rule of law," the DSS source said.

Murder of husband: Police File Charges Against ex-PDP Chair Son’s Wife

Posted: 23 Nov 2017 12:32 AM PST

Nigeria police have filed criminal charges against Maryam Sanda who allegedly stabbed her husband, Bilyamin Bello, to death last Saturday.

Bilyamin, a real estate developer, was the son of a former PDP Chairman, Haliru Bello.

The Federal Capital Territory police spokesman, Anjuguri Manzah, said in a statement on Wednesday in Abuja that the command had secured a remand order against Maryam for two weeks from the FCT High Court pending the completion of investigation.

He added that this was done because the suspect had a six-month-old baby which made it difficult to remand her in prison custody.

Manzah said the case had been assigned to FCT High Court No. 32 Jabi, Abuja for trial by the Chief Judge of FCT, adding that the suspect was charged with culpable homicide punishable under section 224 of the Penal Code.

He said, "It should also be noted that this present charge is as a result of preliminary findings; at the end of investigations, additional findings will determine whether the current charge will be amended or whether other persons will be charged along with the suspect.

"To assist the police with their ongoing investigations, some persons have been invited for questioning on the matter."

Findings by our correspondent indicated that the security guards who were picked up by the police for interrogation in respect of Bilyamin's death had been released.

It was gathered that they narrated to investigators what they knew about the events leading to the death of the businessman.

They were said to have agreed to serve as prosecution witnesses against Maryam after volunteering information on the alleged murder to police detectives.

"The security guards were released after telling the police what they knew about the incident. They subsequently agreed to serve as prosecution witnesses, meaning that they would appear in court to give evidence on the matter," a source explained.

"Pastor" Allegedly Hypnotises, Detains Students For Years

Posted: 23 Nov 2017 12:27 AM PST

Operatives of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Lagos Command, have apprehended a professed pastor, Abraham Roland, for allegedly running a human trafficking camp in the Mowe area between Ogun and Lagos.

The NSCDC said the pastor allegedly hypnotised his victims, who were mostly admission seekers and students at higher institutions in Lagos, and took them to the camp.

He was also alleged to have s*xually harassed some females among them.

According to Punch, many of the victims had spent between three and five years at the camp which Roland also used as a church and residence.

He reportedly struck relationships with the victims through a tutorial centre he ran at Kosofe, Lagos, where they respectively enrolled to prepare for JAMB.

It was learnt that in the course of the tutorial, Roland introduced the victims to a fellowship, which he later moved to his Mowe residence.

After some of the students gained admission, he was said to have lured them into the residence and brainwashed them into believing their success was attainable through prayers rather than education.

He reportedly influenced two of the victims, who were students at the University of Lagos, Busayo Grilo and Tolu Daniel, to quit their studies at the institution.

Busayo's elder brother, Goriola Grilo, told Punch that it took a long time before the family discovered that she was being held at the camp.

He said the family suspected that Busayo had been hypnotised when she told them that she needed "clearance from the leader" each time she was asked to come home.

He said, "She went to a tutorial centre for students preparing to sit for UTME. That was sometime in 2013. All of a sudden, she told us that the coaching centre wanted to form a Christian fellowship. Giving the fact that we are Christians, the family allowed her. We felt it was better for her to combine academics with prayers.

"All of a sudden, she started talking about success camping, but our mother questioned the camping and warned her against it. After she got admission into UNILAG to study Guidance and Counselling, she started telling us about the success camp again.

"We did not know she had been brainwashed by the pastor. He carefully selected some intelligent members of the tutorial centre and turned them against their families and friends. It became very worrisome when my sister came home last year and said she had been rusticated from the school because she did not pass some courses. I was surprised because she is brilliant.

"She did not tell us that the pastor at the camp was also the tutor until a guy who recently escaped from the camp told to us that she was living in the camp. We thought she was in school; the guy said he had spent nine years in the camp doing nothing with his life before he realised that he was hypnotised.

"He said the only time anybody left the camp was when they needed to get food from their families. That was when I realised why my sister rarely came home even when the school was on vacation."

He said he subsequently wrote a petition to the NSCDC, Lagos State Command, which bust the camp last Wednesday and rescued 10 victims – seven females and three males.

"One of victims, Tolu Daniel, was studying Psychology at the University of Lagos, but he was forced to drop out at 200-level.

"Parents of the victims were at the NSCDC office in Ikeja last Wednesday. There is a guy, whose parents had paid about N1m tuition fee after he gained admission into a university in Edo State. He has become a mental case at the camp," he added.

A parent, Roseline Johnson, said her daughter, Olabisi, was lured into the camp sometime last year, after she enrolled in the tutorial centre.

She said her daughter always told her she was going to the Redemption Camp on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, adding that it was when the pastor was arrested that she knew she was lying.

"She had a National Diploma certificate at UNILAG. She went for the tutorial because she wanted to further her education. The man collected their certificates and told them there was nothing like school," she added.

An official of the corps said that the suspect located the camp near a bush on the outskirts of Mowe so that people would not get wind of his illegal activities.

He said, "We got a complaint that the pastor was into abduction and was s*xually harassing his female victims. He had brainwashed about five of them to drop out of school. Some of them had been living with him for four years, while others had spent over five years. He added Abraham to their names."

The Lagos State Commandant of the NSCDC, Tajudeen Balogun, said the suspect and the victims had been handed over to the National Agency for Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons and other related offences, adding that the victims would be rehabilitated by the agency.

He said, "It is a case of suspected human trafficking. The command acted on a petition from one of the relatives of the victims. We tracked him down at a camp in Mowe. He was not ordained as a pastor. He lured the victims from a tutorial centre in Kosofe and hypnotised them.

"We urge parents to be vigilant about how their children move around. Some parents of the victims cried, saying their children had changed."

Wande Coal Marries Long Time Girlfriend In Lagos

Black Diamond star singer Wande Coal has performed traditional marriage rites as he tied the nuptial knot with his heartthrob, Chinemerem, on Saturday, November 18, 2017.

The traditional ceremony was reportedly attended by close friends and family members of the couple at the residence of the bride's parents in Lagos.

Chinemerem who is from the Eastern part of Nigeria is said to have courted the singer for at least four years; a relationship kept very quiet to avoid the prying eyes of paparazzis.

A source who is also a close family friend of the bride described the pair as 'extremely suited pieces of a bigger puzzle'. The couple have allegedly slated the Church wedding for a 2018 date which may be made known to the public but will also be attended strictly by invitation.

Wande Coal seemingly tows the path of his former fellow label mate, D'banj who also in 2016 got married far away from the public eye.

I Take Responsibility For PDP’s Defeat In 2015 – Jonathan

Posted: 23 Nov 2017 12:02 AM PST

Former President Goodluck Jonathan has taken responsibility for Peoples Democratic Party's defeat in the 2015 presidential election.

He, therefore, said his priority now "is how to ensure that the PDP regains the Presidency in 2019."

Jonathan said this when Chief Olabode George and his campaign team paid him a courtesy visit in his country home in Otuoke, Bayelsa State on Tuesday.

A statement by Bode George Media Office after the meeting quoted the ex-President as saying it was his responsibility to ensure that the PDP rose again as a strong political platform to win the next elections.

Jonathan said, "Whether I like it or not, I must take responsibility for the defeat because I led the party to the election. The only thing that will make me sleep well is to ensure that the PDP comes back to power."

The former President said he was working with other stakeholders to ensure that the party was well organised to achieve this purpose though he preferred to work from the back seat.

He said the party must begin to take the right steps in the right direction to regain the confidence of the electorate, adding that the mistakes of the past would not be repeated.

Speaking earlier, George, a former deputy national chairman of PDP who is currently on a nationwide campaign for the chairmanship election in December 9, had congratulated the former President on his 60th birthday.

George urged the ex-President, as the leader of the party, to ensure that the PDP emerge stronger from the forthcoming national convention.

George, however, told the former President that the failure to apply the micro-zoning principle to the PDP chairmanship position had caused ripples capable of dividing the party.

He lamented that the party appeared to be drifting as there was no reasonable justification offered by the Senator Ahmed Makarfi-led National Caretaker Committee for jettisoning the principle, which was applied to all previous elections to the position.

The Ooni of Ife, Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, on Thursday visited the Lagos State House of Assembly to watch the plenary sitting of the House conducted in Yoruba language.

Speaker of the House, Mudashiru Obasa, restated the commitment of the Assembly to the promotion of Yoruba language and the culture of the Yoruba people. He assured the Yoruba monarch that he and his colleagues in the Assembly will continue to work to promote the Yoruba language and culture.

"We've started conducting our Thursday plenary sessions in Yoruba. We've gone ahead to organise the Yoruba Stakeholders' Summit and we will ensure that the teaching of Yoruba language becomes compulsory in Lagos State. We will not relent and we will continue to do more so that our dear language will not go into extinction," he said.

The Lagos Assembly Speaker urged Yoruba wherever they are to make the language the tool of communication with their children at home. "The era of using other people's language as tool of communication for our children should be rejected and should be done away with," he said.

Ooni Ogunwusi commended the Lagos lawmakers for being in the forefront of the struggle to promote the Yoruba language and culture. "I'm very happy to be here and I want to commend the members of the Lagos State House of Assembly for being in the forefront of the struggle for the promotion of Yoruba language and culture," Oba Ogunwusi said.

The monarch stated further that he was particularly pleased with the plenary sitting of the House conducted in Yoruba, saying that he had to push forward his visit to the House by 24 hours because he wanted to witness the Yoruba plenary session of the lawmakers.

"I'm highly impressed and indeed with what you have done, the Lagos State House of Assembly has become role model for others in the country in the area of culture promotion," Ooni Ogunwusi said.
The programme was concluded with exchange of gifts between the Speaker and his visitor.

A two-count charge has been filed against a jealous wife, Maryam Sanda, barely five days after allegedly stabbing her husband to death.

The affected wife had allegedly killed her husband, Bilyaminu Haliru Bello, who was a son of a former National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party( PDP) and ex-Minister Mohammed Haliru Bello.

There had been issues on whether or not the suspect will face trial with some relatives of the deceased raising the alarm of a possible cover up.

But the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Command of the police alleged that the embattled wife stabbed her husband in the chest and neck with the intention to kill him.

The command on November 20  filed two-count charge against the wife in the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja Division.

According to The Nation, the charges read:
"That you, Maryam Sanda, female, adult of No.4 Pakali Close, Wuse 2 Abuja, on 19/11/2017 at about 0350hours at No.4 Pakali Close, Wuse 2 Abuja within the Abuja Judicial Division, did commit the offence of culpable homicide punishable with death in that you caused the death of one Bilyaminu Bello Haliru, male adult of No. 40 Pakali Close, Wuse 2 Abuja by stabbing him on the chest with a broken bottle which eventually led to his death and you did so with the knowledge that your act is likely to cause his death.
"You thereby  committed an offence  punishable under Section 221  of the Penal Code Law.
"That you, Maryam Sanda, female, adult of No.4 Pakali Close, Wuse 2 Abuja, on 19/11/2017 at about 0350hours at No.4 Pakali Close, Wuse 2 Abuja within the Abuja Judicial Division, did commit the offence of causing grievous hurt in that you stabbed one Bilyaminu Bello Haliru, male adult of No. 40 Pakali Close, Wuse 2 Abuja with a broken bottle on the neck thereby endangering his life.
"You thereby  committed an offence contrary to Section 240 (g) and punishable under Section 247 of the Penal Code Law."

No date has been fixed for the arraignment of the suspect as at press time.

But there were indications that there was pressure on the Bello family to "accept the death of Bilyaminu as accidental, the wish of Allah  and forgive Maryam."

Feud Between EFCC, DSS & NIA: Senate Takes Action

Posted: 22 Nov 2017 10:17 PM PST

The Senate said it would probe the alleged feud among Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Directorate of State Services and National Intelligence Agency over operational issues.

The face-off was said to have stemmed from EFCC's attempted arrest of former directors-general of the DSS, Ita Ekpeyong, and NIA, Ayodele Oke.

The Senate said it would set up an ad hoc committee to investigate the matter within two weeks.

The resolution followed a motion by Sen. Dino Melaye (APC-Kogi), drawing the attention of the upper chamber to alleged resistance by DSS and NIA officers on Tuesday when EFCC tried to arrest Ekpeyong and Oke.

Presenting the motion, Melaye said that it was expedient for the Senate to wade into the matter in view of its threat to national security.

"Our responsibility as a senate is to ensure the respect for rule of law. The media have been awash with a disastrous situation that happened yesterday.

"The EFCC went to the resident of the former DG of the DSS, Mr Ita Ekpeyong, to effect arrest and the men of the DSS stopped the EFCC from arresting him.

"The development created gridlock in the area as people living in there were either not allowed to gain entrance to their residents or to move out.

"Same yesterday, the EFCC was stopped from arresting the former DG of NIA, Mr Oke, and the officers of the Nigeria Intelligence Agency stopped that arrest.

"We will recall that the same DG, DSS, had written this senate before now on the Acting Chairman of EFCC, Mr Ibrahim Magu.

"We are not here to lay blame on anyone but to say Nigeria has been embarrassed before the international community for two sister agencies to be involved in fisticuffs," he said.

The lawmaker said that the incident was a recipe for national disaster which should not be allowed to continue.

He stressed that Nigeria was not a banana republic and as such, the rule of law must be respected by all.

Melaye pointed out that "if two security agencies will engage in this shameful act, which involves the threat to life, what will happen when two civilians are fighting.

"This matter should not be taken lightly as we cannot allow Nigeria to be ridiculed on a daily basis by those who are supposed to defend her integrity.

"I call on the Senate to investigate this matter and ask the leadership to wade into the situation immediately.''

Contributing, Senate Deputy Minority Whip, Mrs Biodun Olujimi, said it was a dangerous situation that should be nipped in the bud.

According to her, it is shameful for security agencies to be involved in such a fight.

"We never thought a day like this will come but we saw it coming. Right now, we have a situation where no one is in charge of anything. I support the motion.

"The truth is that you cannot go to the house of a security agent, a man who has kept the secret of this country and arrest him like a chicken.

"Remember we rejected Magu but he is still there. The Senate is being defied. The Presidency has to be called to order. Somebody has to be in charge," she said.

On his part, the Leader of the Senate, Ahmed Lawan, supported the motion, saying "what Melaye has presented is seeking that the Senate investigates what happened and it is one rare motion.

"However, I want to say that President Muhammadu Buhari is in full control of the government.

"Even when he was away to attend to his health, the Vice President was in control. There was never a vacuum.

"In my opinion, could it be that the EFCC did not get the right document to effect the arrest and if they did, our investigation will reveal,'' he said.

Lawan called for calm, assuring that the matter would be investigated.

In his remarks, President of the Senate, Dr. Bukola Saraki, urged the lawmakers to remain calm while the ad hoc committee probed the development.

A Prayer To Look Beyond Temporary Stress In Life

Posted: 22 Nov 2017 10:07 PM PST

"Come, see a man who told me everything I ever did. Could this be the Messiah?" - John 4:29 (NIV)

Early one morning as I sat in my prayer chair at home, my precious 7-year-old grandbaby Lily caught me reading and praying the Psalms.

Instead of being glad she saw her Pop reading the Bible, I was a little annoyed my time with God had been interrupted. As she crawled into my lap, my heavenly Father spoke words that warmed my heart as He reminded me, "My dear son, this is not an interruption, but an illustration of My love, care and affection for you."

As she sat in my lap I couldn't help but notice several bruises, scratches, bug bites and a matted band aid on her legs. To which the Holy Spirit whispered, "Boyd, you are bruised and broken — and I Am — your Comforter and Healer."

Peace, joy, confidence, hope, faith and love all at once erupted in my heart, moving me closer to Christ. My heavenly Father illustrated through an interruption what I was seeking all along: His loving presence.

One day an unnamed Samaritan woman, going about her daily business, was interrupted by a stranger who asked her for a drink of water: "The Samaritan woman said to him, 'You are a Jew and I am a Samaritan woman. How can you ask me for a drink?' (For Jews do not associate with Samaritans.) Jesus answered her, 'If you knew the gift of God and who it is that asks you for a drink, you would have asked him and he would have given you living water'" (John 4:9-10, NIV).

He asked her for a favor — a drink of water — but what was Jesus' bigger idea for stopping by the well? To give a gift. He offered it to this searching, hardworking woman who needed living water for her thirsty soul. The Messiah she'd heard about was in her presence to offer her His forgiveness and love.

So she couldn't help but tell everyone what Jesus had done: "Come, see a man who told me everything I ever did. Could this be the Messiah?" (John 4:29)

Our lives are full of interruptions.

Traffic, a sick child, a financial surprise, a long line, a needy neighbor, a complaining customer, a co-worker in crisis, unfaithfulness, divorce, illness and death. These all look, sound and feel like interruptions. However, with eyes of faith we have the ability to look beyond life's interruptions and instead see illustrations of God's love.

Interruptions can be appointments for compassion. Life may feel unfair, but in your everyday routine recognize the Lord in the little things and love like Jesus. Interruptions represent people to love and are opportunities for you to be loved!

Loving people is the business of Jesus' followers. It may be a person in your immediate presence, or it could be an individual in your peripheral vision, such as a restaurant server who needs to be included in your mealtime prayer.

A doctor or nurse who cares for you, a loved one who needs to be encouraged, or a critic who doesn't have the full story — they too need the gifts of your patience and grace. Look for illustrations of God's hand at work, home, vacation and especially during the holidays. Let interruptions slow you down, so you can better focus on receiving and giving God's love.

Has your life been interrupted? How can you turn this into an opportunity to love and be loved?

Lean into God and learn of His love for the person who may have interrupted your life, then go share your story. Today, settle into the lap of your Lord, rest secure in His comfort and compassion. He beautifully illustrates His story of love for you, written with grace by His Son and your Savior, Jesus.

Heavenly Father, open my eyes of faith to see Your illustrations of love in the interruptions of my life today. Lord, help me see these moments as opportunities to love and to accept Your love and the love of others. Help me share the good news of Your great love with everyone I know. Slow me down, so that I can receiving and give to others. In Jesus' Name, Amen.

4 Types of People You'll Meet On Vacation

Posted: 22 Nov 2017 09:32 PM PST

Travel opens you up to the world in more ways than you can imagine, and one of these ways is in the types of people it helps you meet, people from different walks of life, who you might eventually end up becoming friends with.

Jumia Travel shares 4 types of people you'll meet on vacation.

The JJC or First Timer
These are those that have either never been to the destination before, or it is their first time traveling on their own to said destination (that is, without a parent or guardian). The second part are usually those traveling in their teens or early twenties. Suffice to say, these people are determined to 'have it large' in the grandest way. They typically tend to be generally excited about everything (some even to be point of being hyper about it) and they are also more prone to react in fascination to most things they witness. This is quite okay considering it's their first time and we are all allowed to be a little excited when experiencing things for the first time.

The Over-Sharer
You can either meet this person on the plane or at your holiday destination. He/she generally just tends to give way too much personal information in what should have been a light conversation or small talk. The over-sharer embodies the expression 'TMI (Too Much Information)', but aside potentially driving you crazy with all their talk, when your trip is over, they can actually give you some funny memories to reflect on and laugh at.

The Over-Sabi or Adventure Addict
These ones are so addicted to adventure that they will defy death and the instruction of the tourist guides to seek their puzzling thrill. They are the ones you'll see sneaking off from the general group of tourists to do something completely outside what had been planned for tourists and outside what is even considered safe for human beings. Nevertheless, if you are looking to get exponentially well outside of your comfort zone, you can join them for some of their fun and adventure. Traveling with them can be exhausting as they are always up for anything but it can still be fun as long as you stick to your limits.

The Lovers
These types of people will make you feel as if you don't even know what love is with all their PDA (public display of affection). They are especially rampant in European cities like Venice or Paris. When they are not kissing, touching, hugging, hand holding or baby talking, their stopping mid-way into the tour to take selfies, make snapchat videos and kiss and hug some more, sometimes delaying everyone else. in the process. Many times, you find yourself exercising all restraint to keep from punching them in the face.
