Wizkid Is Not A Superstar - Shatta Wale | Mr Olumide's Blog

Posted: 15 Nov 2017 04:23 AM PST

Shatta Wale has made it known he does not regard Wizkid as a superstar.

The Ghanaian dancehall artiste, Shatta Wale said this during his interview on Ghanaian radio station, Kasapa FM.

According to Shatta Wale, many of his Ghanaian colleagues are most times starstruck around Wizkid, tagging him the best and richest African artiste but in his opinion, Wizzy, is just an ordinary person.

"I will not see Wizkid and be stunned, I rather want him to see me and be amazed because I don't see anything extraordinary about him, even though he claims to the best African artiste," he said.

Shatta Wale also added that although he isn't in competition with anyone, but Ghanaian artistes need to start respecting themselves and stop seeing Nigerian artistes as gods.

Mugabe Agrees To Step Down, Negotiates For Wife To Leave

Posted: 15 Nov 2017 02:47 AM PST

Reports from Zimbabwe indicates that Robert Mugabe has negotiated for Grace, his wife, to leave the country while he prepares to step down.

Solidiers indeed have the President and his Presidential guard under siege.

Zimbabweans are urged to stay away from the Central Business District until further notice.

The military has seized control in Zimbabwe but has said President Robert Mugabe, in power since 1980, is safe. After seizing state TV, an army spokesman announced it was targeting people close to Mr Mugabe who had caused "social and economic suffering".

The move came after Mugabe sacked his deputy, Emmerson, in favour of his wife, Grace.

Heavy gun and artillery fire could be heard in northern parts of the capital Harare on Wednesday.

A statement read out by a general on air denied it was a coup. There was no immediate word from the president himself.

Mugabe, 93, has dominated the impoverished country's political scene since independence from UK.
The UK Foreign Office advised Britons "currently in Harare to remain safely at home or in their accommodation until the situation becomes clearer", while the US embassy in Harare advised US citizens in Zimbabwe to "shelter in place" until further notice.

How did the military justify its move? Troops in armoured vehicles have been out in the streets of the capital Harare since Tuesday.
After soldiers overran the headquarters of the ZBC broadcaster, Maj Gen Sibusiso Moyo went on air to say the military wished to "assure the nation that his Excellency the president... and his family are safe and sound and their security is guaranteed".

"We are only targeting criminals around him who are committing crimes... that are causing social and economic suffering in the country," he said.
"As soon as we have accomplished our mission, we expect that the situation will return to normalcy."

Other key points of the statement included:
  • Citizens should remain calm and limit unnecessary movement.
  • The military assures the Zimbabwean judiciary that its independence is guaranteed.
  • Security services should "co-operate for the good of our country" and any provocation would "be met with an appropriate response".
  • All leave for the defence forces is cancelled and personnel should return to barracks immediately.
  • It is not clear who is leading the military action. Army chief Gen Constantino Chiwenga had said the army was prepared to act to end purges within the ruling Zanu-PF party.
What do we know of the shooting? The firing was coming from northern suburbs where Mugabe and a number of government officials live, the BBC's Shingai Nyoka reports from Harare.

A witness told AFP it could be heard near Mugabe's residence in the suburb of Borrowdale early on Wednesday. Some staff at ZBC were manhandled when the soldiers moved in, sources told Reuters.

Has anyone been detained? A government source told Reuters that Finance Minister Ignatius Chombo had been detained.
He is a leading member of a faction of Zanu-PF led by Grace Mugabe.

Is this a coup?
Alex Magaisa, former adviser to Zimbabwean opposition leader Morgan Tsvangirai, told the BBC: "They have decided not to call it a coup because they know that a coup does not sell, it will be condemned."

Wife begs court for divorce after 4 years over husband's weak erection | Mr Olumide's Blog

Posted: 15 Nov 2017 02:18 AM PST

A 32-year-old woman, Kate Ude, has prayed an FCT High Court, Jabi to dissolve her  four-year-old marriage to her husband, Michael Ude, over malfunctioning of his manhood.

Part of the petitioner's prayers before Justice Vera Venda, was to declare that there was no marriage in the first place between them.

Kate alleged that Michael's manhood always have inconsistent erection and that anytime the manhood becomes erect, he ejaculates within few seconds which was not expected of a real man.

She also alleged that the man did not make known his health status before the consummation of the marriage which took place in Calabar, Cross River, in 2014.

The petitioner also said that during her traditional marriage, Michael did not show up as he was represented by his younger brother.

Kate also said that it was at the registry that she got to know him very well and prayed the court to nullify the marriage.

In his response, Michael who also filed a cross petition to divorce the woman, denied all the allegations, when cross examined by the petitioner's lawyer, Mr Ishaka Awaliene.

"The non-erection of my manhood is not regular, it is just that l am not always in the mood whenever she is in the mood. I don't use any enhancement drugs for sex as she alleged,'' he said.

Ude also told the court that there was a period in June 28, 2014, when Kate left his house that she was no longer interested in the marriage.

According to Michael, she later came back after some months and decided to leave again.

He said that his family made a lot of efforts to unite them, but instead of her yielding to the calls; she resorted to insulting his family through text messages.

Justice Venda adjourned the matter until Feb. 6, 2018 for adoption of final written addresses from both parties.

Woman Hospitalised After Police, Students Clash

Posted: 15 Nov 2017 02:12 AM PST

Two workers of the Institute of Agricultural Research and Training, Ibadan, Oyo State, are receiving treatment at the University College, Ibadan, after they were hit by bullets during a clash between the police and students of the Federal College of Agriculture, Ibadan on Monday.

The college, the research institute and the Federal College of Animal Health and Technology share the same premises at the Moor plantation.

Crisis erupted on Monday when the students of FCA clashed with the police during a protest against their inability to receive lectures due to a disagreement between the school Provost, Dr Babajide Adelekan, and the lecturers.

The Punch correspondent, who visited the UCH on Tuesday, observed that one of the injured, Mrs. Helen Adekanmi, who works at the Crop Production Unit of the research institute, was admitted to the South-West 1 ward of the hospital after a surgery on Monday night.

The bullet pierced through her navel and ruptured part of her lower abdomen.

Although she could not speak when our correspondent visited her at the ward, the Public Relations Officer of the institute, Mr. Adeniyi Hamzat, said the police stray bullet hit her when they shot towards the offices of the institute.

Also, Miss Kobaju Busayo, who was observing her Industrial Training programme at the institute, was being attended to at the Emergency Care Unit of the UCH.

It was learnt that a bullet also pierced through her left thigh, causing severe damage to the leg.

Apart from the workers of the institute, two vehicles belonging to lecturers of FCA were vandalised, while the students claimed that eight of their colleagues were injured.

They also refuted police claim that eight police vans were damaged during the unrest.

One of the students, who identified himself only as Oladeji, said, "The protest was peaceful at first. It was to create awareness to what we have been facing for the past three months. The institution had been practically closed during the period. Around 9am, policemen from the Apata division came and we expressed our grievances to them.

"Thirty minutes later, they returned with guns and tear gas. They shot at us and we went back to the institution and closed our gates. Ten minutes later, they returned with Armoured Personnel Carriers, which they drove round the school. They attacked us with planks, axes and guns.

"They came with three vans and none was vandalised. No policeman was injured. We took some of our colleagues that were injured to a hospital on Oluyole Estate and they were rejected. The Commissioner of Police in the state knows about our problem and he had met us and the school management on the issue. We are law-abiding citizens. We do not have ammunition. They attacked us first and we have video evidence. We did not throw stones at the police. They entered the school and beat us up."

The school's Assistant Chief Technologist, Adisa Lawal, who claimed that his car was damaged in the protest, said the car was parked outside the premises when the students locked the gate.

"The gunshots lasted three hours. When it stopped, I went to take my car, but I met it vandalised; I don't know who did it," he said.

Another worker of the school, Lawal Adesola, said his car was parked outside the school gate and that when he returned to pick it, it was damaged.

When contacted for comment on a picture showing a policeman with an axe and seemingly attacking a student, the state Police Public Relations Officer, Adekunle Ajisebutu, said it was one of the weapons recovered from the students.

"That (axe) was one of the weapons recovered from the students. Policemen don't use axe. Whoever posted that picture online is being mischievous," he added.

Ajisebutu said he was not aware that the police shot at anyone, while also directing our correspondent to the state Commissioner of Police, Abiodun Odude, for further comments.

He denied the claim that police shot the victims, accusing students of being in possession of firearms.

He said, "The students had firearms in their possession. On Sunday, two students were arrested with sophisticated firearms in Ibadan. If anyone was shot at, ask the students. The picture of a policeman holding an axe was wrongly understood."

Meanwhile, it was gathered that some students of the school on Tuesday went on the rampage and destroyed glass windows of the school buildings.

According to a source, the students took the action because five of their colleagues were arrested by the police in connection with the crisis.

He said the youths had issued a 24-hour ultimatum to the police after which they would burn down the administrative department of the school if their colleagues were not released.

Oni Rejects Fayose’s Car Gift?

Posted: 15 Nov 2017 01:12 AM PST

The Director-General of the Segun Oni Campaign Organization, SOCO, Dr. Ife Arowosoge has said the rejection of Governor Ayo Fayose's car gift was done in the interest of Ekiti workers.

Arowosoge, who spoke during the inauguration of the Advisory Committee of the group, charged them to ensure the emergence of Segun Oni at the primary election scheduled to hold in April, 2018.

Governor Fayose had last month presented all former governors of the state except Dr Kayode Fayemi with a car gift.

The Director General said: "Though, Fayose meant well with the gift, but the question is why does he have to wait till this time before giving out the cars.

"The former governors are entitled to it, it is their right and privilege, not only the car, but residential houses, even at the Federal Capital. Why then does he have to wait till when he has less than a year to leave the office before recognising them?

"The timing to give out a jeep of about N52 million at the time state, local government workers, and pensioners were being owed for several months were what we quarrelled with and not the gift."

Senator Ndume Resumes Today As Legal Battle Continues

Posted: 15 Nov 2017 12:37 AM PST

The Senate on Tuesday unanimously resolved to allow Senator Ali Ndume (Borno-South) to resume on Wednesday (today) from his six-month suspension by the chamber.

The Deputy President of the Senate, Ike Ekweremadu, who presided over the plenary on Tuesday, made the announcement after an executive (closed-door) session held by the lawmakers.

Ekweremadu said the lawmakers resolved at the closed-door session that the former Majority Leader be allowed to resume "without prejudice to the case pending in court."

Senate had on Monday appealed against a Federal High Court judgment on Friday, which nullified the suspension of the Borno-South senator.

The upper chamber, which stated through its lawyer, Chief Mike Ozekhome (SAN), in a statement on Sunday, disclosed that it would also apply for stay of execution at the Court of Appeal.

Senate had on March 29, suspended Ndume for six months for not "conducting due diligence" before filing a petition against the Senate President, Bukola Saraki; and the lawmaker representing Kogi West Senatorial District, Dino Melaye.

The Federal High Court, however, voided the suspension of Ndume, saying it's reckless.

Ex-Banker Remanded Prison For Multi-Million Naira Fraud

Posted: 15 Nov 2017 12:37 AM PST

An Igbosere high court has ordered a former banker, Mr. Adebayo Ogunnusi to be remanded in Ikoyi prison over alleged N15.4million fraud.

The EFCC arraigned Ogunnusi, a former staff of Heritage Bank yesterday before Justice Sybil Nwaka for allegedly obtaining N15.4m from Mr. A. Kehinde under the disguise of supplying dollar.

Ogunnsi, 41, was arraigned alongside his company, Track Train GMAT Limited.

The EFCC prosecutor, Mr M. D Aliyu alleged that the defendant committed the offence between May and August 2016.

According to him, Ogunnusi obtained the said amount from one Kehinde by presenting himself as a head of a department in the bank and that he could change the naira equivalent to dollar.

The defendant pleaded not guilty.

Aliyu urged the court to remand the defendant in prison and adjourned for commencement of trial.

But the defendant's counsel, Nelson Okesinachi objected to it, saying "It would be double jeopardy for him because he was unfairly being tried in two different courts on the same charge."

Justice Nwaka ordered Ogunnusi to be remanded in Ikoyi prison, before adjourning till November 15.

Man impersonates Mike Okiro, defrauds lawmakers’ relatives

Posted: 15 Nov 2017 12:37 AM PST

The Zone 2 Police Command, Onikan, Lagos, has arrested a 37-year-old man, Emmanuel Ebuzoma, for 'defrauding' relatives and friends of National Assembly members in a police recruitment scam.

The Delta state indigene was alleged to have obtained a pre-registered SIM with the name of a former Inspector-General of Police and Chairman of the Police Service Commission, Dr Mike Okiro.

Ebuzoma was reported to have obtained telephone numbers of senators, members of the House of Reps and governors, whom he sent bulk text messages to, requesting contacts of four people they wanted to help into the Nigeria Police Force.

Some of the government functionaries were said to have sent numbers of their relatives and friends to the suspect, who immediately contacted them, demanding various sums of money for registration into the Force.

The Zone 2 Police Public Relations Officer, SP Dolapo Badmos, said the suspect had five account numbers into which the applicants paid between N25,000 and N50,000.

She said, "The Chairman of the PSC, Dr Mike Okiro, got complaints from some members of the public that a syndicate was using his name to defraud people. He became worried and wrote a petition to the Assistant Inspector-General of Police, Zone 2, Adamu Ibrahim.

"The petition was forwarded to the Public Complaints Bureau and police operatives swung into action. Detectives tracked the suspect to Onitsha, Anambra State, where he was arrested despite his cleverness.

"In the course of investigation, we discovered that he had accomplices, who assisted him in getting account numbers of innocent residents, into which applicants paid various sums of money. He never used his own account number so as not to be caught.

"Again, when you dial the phone number he uses to call through True Caller, a telephone application, it will bring out the name of Dr Mike Okiro. We discovered he had help from some agents of a telecommunications company.

"Actually, he started the criminal act in October 2016 and from our checks on all the account numbers, he has realised about N4.5m. Most of his victims came from senators and House of Representatives members."

The suspect, who confessed to the crime, said he had only made N400,000, adding that he got the money from those referred to him by some members of the House of Representatives.

He said, "I was at home one day when I decided to browse on my telephone. I saw the phone numbers of some senators, governors and House of Representatives members on the Internet. I decided to try if I could make money from them.

"I sent bulk text messages to them. I sent to six House of Representatives members, telling them that I was Mike Okiro and that they should send me four names of their candidates for police recruitment.

"When I sent the messages, four of them responded. They sent four names each with the telephone numbers of the applicants. I immediately sent text messages to those people, asking them to go to a bank and pay for their training kits and afterwards report at Abuja. I collected between N25,000 to N30,000 from each person.

"A girl supplied me account numbers into which payments were made. We had about four account numbers and we had withdrawn close to N400,000. There is a place in Onitsha where we buy pre-registered SIM cards. That was where I got the telephone number I used."

His accomplice, Faith Oregbu, denied knowledge of the scam, saying she thought Ebuzoma was receiving payments from popular Ponzi scheme, MMM.

The 23-year-old said the suspect had only paid her N26,000 since they met.

She said, "A friend of mine, Chidiebere, had collected my account number, saying she was expecting someone to send money to her. When I got an alert of N70,000, she told me a man would come for it.

"He (Ebuzoma) called shortly afterwards and we met at a bank where I withdrew the money. He gave me N5,000 from the money and said I should take N4,000 and give Chidiebere N1,000.

"Later, he asked me for another bank account. He said my account had been blocked. I sent him three account numbers and told him to pick one from them. Since we met, I have withdrawn about N290,000 for him and he has paid me a total of N26,000.

"I was not confident enough to ask him where the money was coming from. But when I asked my friend, Chidiebere, she said it was from MMM. So, I thought the money was from MMM. Knowing the source of the money now makes me feel sad, embarrassed and ashamed."

Badmos, while warning job seekers to beware of fraudsters demanding money for employment, said the suspects would be arraigned in court at the end of investigations.

"I Met With Maina In Dubai" – AGF Malami Tells Senate

Posted: 15 Nov 2017 12:17 AM PST

*EFCC says Maina ran account through sms, e-mail
A clearer picture of Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice Abubakar Malami's role in the reinstatement of fugitive civil servant Abdulrasheed Maina has emerged.

The minister yesterday admitted before a Senate panel probing AbdulRasheed Maina's reinstatement into the civil service and promotion to acting director that he met with Maina in Dubai last year.

He also said he wrote letters to the Federal Civil Service Commission (FRSC) on the sacked chairman of the Pension Reform Task Team.

Maina was in 2015 accused of over N2billion pension fraud and declared wanted by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

The EFCC enlisted the International Police (INTERPOL) to trace Maina.

But he dramatically showed up in the country and was last month reinstated as acting director in the Ministry of Interior.

An embarrassed President Muhammadu Buhari ordered Maina's immediate sack and a probe of how he was brought back. The EFCC stepped up its investigation. But Maina has not been seen since then.

The Senate panel is conducting its probe in camera with a promise to brief reporters at the end of its investigation.

But a source told The Nation last night that Malami, Interior Minister Abdulrahman Danbazau and Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Interior appeared before the committee.

The Interior minister and the permanent secretary insisted that they played no role in Maina's recall that the attorney general admitted writing three letters to the Federal Civil Service Commission (FCSC) on Maina. But he said he did not bring him back.

Senators reportedly asked the minister questions ranging from the authenticity of the correspondence between him and the FCSC, the constitutionality of his alleged directives to the commission and the extent of his involvement in the reinstatement of the controversial civil servant.

Another source close to the committee said: "Malami agreed before the parliamentary panel that he held a meeting with Maina in Dubai, although he insisted that he was not responsible for his dramatic return to the service. "

The source added: "The committee discovered that three letters were written by the Justice Minister asking questions from the FCSC on Maina. There is no record that the questions were answered by the FCSC in any correspondence.

"The fourth letter was written by the Attorney-general in January as a directive to the Civil Service Commission to reinstate Maina. In the letter, the AG asked for Maina's status, his position, rank and next rank.

"There was another letter in February where the AG directed the Civil Service Commission to reinstate Maina. The committee frowned at this because under the constitution, they felt the AG cannot issue that kind of directive."

According to the source, the AG wrote another letter in April asking whether the reinstatement had been effected. In that letter, he directed the FCSC to promote Maina to Director.

The source added: "When committee members asked the AG to react to the allegations that he wrote the letters, the AG agreed that he wrote them, but said he could not remember all that he wrote. He pleaded with the committee to allow him contact his files to ascertain the content. He promised to return tomorrow. The committee agreed.

The source added: "The committee was satisfied that the Head of Service (HoS) of the Federation documented everything.

"The Committee observed that she was tidy. It was learnt that at the sitting, the HoS did not release the purported letter written by the Civil Service Commission to Maina. The question the committee will be finding answer to on Thursday is where the Ministry of Interior got the letter it relied upon to reinstate Maina."

Women Arrested for Buying 4-Day-Old Baby for N300,000

Posted: 15 Nov 2017 12:17 AM PST

Two women were on Tuesday arrested by the Special Military Task Force, codenamed Operation Safe Haven, for allegedly trafficking a four-day-old baby girl.

The suspects – Doris Egbufurum, 39; and Esther James, 40 – were said to have been arrested with the baby at Babale Gwam checkpoint, a boundary between Plateau and Bauchi states.

The Commander of Sector 1, Colonel Musa Etsu-Ndagi, who paraded the suspects, explained that they were arrested around 7.15pm on Monday by operatives of OPSH at the checkpoint after the duo boarded a commercial vehicle in Bauchi.

He said, "A passenger in the vehicle raised the alarm that she suspected that the baby with the two women was stolen because neither of them appeared to be her mother. The troops arrested them and investigation revealed that they bought the baby girl from one Mr. Abuna in Bauchi State for N300,000."

He said the baby was in the military's custody, adding that she was under the care of medical officers.

Etsu-Ndagi said the OPSH was making efforts to hand over the baby to the National Agency for Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons, an agency of the Federal Ministry of Justice.

He said, "NAPTIP does not have an office in Plateau; their closest office is in Makurdi, Benue State."

One of the suspects, Egbufurum, who lived in Imo and worked as a nurse with the Peoples Clinic in Bauchi, said she was taking the baby to Lagos after she bought her from a customer in Bauchi.

"I was taking the baby to a woman who has been married for a long time without a child. She sent N320,000 to me for the job. I bought the baby for N300,000 and wanted to use the N20,000 balance for transport from Bauchi to Lagos," She said.

When contacted, spokesperson for OPSH, Captain Umar Adams, said the suspects would be handed over to NAPTIP.

He said, "Our troops intercepted a vehicle conveying some passengers. The passengers in the vehicle raised the alarm and our troops discovered two women travelling with a baby suspected to have been stolen. They were arrested and taken to our headquarters.
