Your shame is overrated - Uche Maduagwu comes for Daddy Freeze again | Mr Olumide's Blog

Posted: 14 Nov 2017 03:53 AM PST

He just won't stop now, will he?

Uche Maduagwu has again come for OAP Daddy Freeze after the latter shared a post from a young man he helped acquire JAMB form back in 2012.

Uche of course felt Freeze was bragging and lashed out at the controversial media personality.

Read his post below;

Your shame is overrated... @daddyfreeze This is why people don't take you seriously. Your mates are giving scholarship, you are boasting about a Jamb form you bought for someone since 2012 @daddyfreeze seriously, how can someone be boasting on #instagram that he bought Jamb form for another since 2012? So you didnt even bother paying his fees in #school? Shame overrated...👎 Is that something to boast of? So with all those expensive wrist #watches⏰ that you #poston your #page, this is the #best you could do to helping Nigerians, I've also bought Jamb forms for people, but do I boast about it? No.... well, for your information, the #pastors you criticize on a daily basis, have given scholarship to hundreds of #youth in #Nigeria, i heard Bishop Oyedepo has given over one thousand #peoplescholarship in the last two years, it is widely reported that Apostle Suleman this year gave over four hundred people #scholarship, so before you come out to say some people are eating our #TITHES, do your home work. Meet Unibadan best graduating student with perfect 7.0 CGPA

Posted: 14 Nov 2017 03:51 AM PST

Best graduating student (2015/2016) session Daniel Kenechukwu Nkemelu with the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Idowu Olayinka flanked by the other Principal officer of the University at the 2017 Convocation Ceremony on Monday, 12 November, 2017.

He returned with a perfect Cumulative Grade Point Average of 7.0 out of a maximum of 7.0 and for this great achievement, Daniel is now on a MasterCard Scholarship to Carnegie Mellon University, Pittsburgh, PA, USA for a Masters in Electrical and Computer Engineering.

The breakdown of the graduating lists shows that 3.5 percent and 28 percent of the graduating students finished with First Class and Second Class (Upper) Honours respectively. The summary of First Degree Graduands reveals a total of 186 and 1,538 making First Class and Second Class Upper Division respectively, 3, 133 and 434, making Second Class Lower Division and Third Class respectively while 81 made Pass and 257 unclassified.

Olayinka said, "I am aware that there have been, of recent, strident public criticisms of the large number of First Class graduates from the universities. I hasten to add that we are exceedingly proud of all Ibadan graduates. We see this phenomenon from the strategic point of view of Input-Process-Output. In specific terms, the University of Ibadan has arguably the most competitive mechanism for undergraduate admission in the country. Only one out of 16 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examinations, UTME, candidates who made the University of Ibadan their First choice can secure admission here.

Our admission process is transparent and merit driven while our Faculty rank among the best in the country in terms of research productivity. Ibadan is for the best and brightest. This has been attested to consistently by the Times Higher Education World University rankings in which Ibadan is the only University in the country ranked among the topmost 801-1000 universities in the world. It may be worthwhile to mention in passing here that, as shown in table 2, in the United Kingdom, comparative figures from the higher Education Statistic Agency indicated an average of 23.6 percent of their students earning First Class and 49.6 percent obtaining Second Class Upper degree at the end of the 2015/2016 session".

Continuing, "Among the main highlights of today's event is that the University of Ibadan is producing the pioneering set of B.A. Music graduates, comparing 12 students one of whom earned a First Class Honours. It is gratifying to note that the Department of Music had earlier secured full accreditation from the National Universities Commission, NUC.
Olayinka disclosed that the Premier University has conformed with the new grading system from the NUC for undergraduate programmes starting with the institution's current 100 level students pointing out, "The implications of this include 45 percent as the pass mark for all courses in the faculties operating the Course System, the abolition of Pass degree, and a transition from a 7-point grading systems to a 4-point grading system".

Among the impressive feats boasted of by the Vice Chancellor include: two students, Amida Tella and Oluyemi Ajiboye graduating with First Class Honours at the recently released Final Bar qualification examination 2017 of the Nigeria Law School.

Snakebite: Nigeria procures 5,000 anti-venom vials following 250 deaths | Mr Olumide's Blog

Posted: 14 Nov 2017 02:33 AM PST

After one month of acute shortage of Anti-Snake Venom (ASV), resulting into massive snakebite deaths across Nigeria, 5,000 vials of the ASV have arrived into the country.

The ASV drugs, which arrived at the weekend, included EchiTAB G for the treatment of bites from carpet vipers, and EchiTAB Plus for venom from carpet viper, Puff Adder and Black Cobra.

EchiTAB G is produced by Micropharm Ltd, United Kingdom, while EchiTAB Plus is produced at Instituto Clodomiro Picado, University of Costa Rica.

The last tranche of the drug, supplied in August, was used up in September, throwing the treatment centres into chaos as victims massed in, following a sharp rise in snakebites occasioned by the on-going harvest season.

Keyamo reacts to Nnamdi Kanu's sack by IPOB | Mr Olumide's Blog

Posted: 14 Nov 2017 02:03 AM PST

Human rights activist and Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Festus Keyamo has mocked the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, after announcing the sack of  Nnamdi Kanu as director of Radio Biafra.
In a statement, they claimed

"Kanu privately collected £14 million and another $22 million to purchase landed properties abroad in his name and that of his father, Igwe Israel Kanu, in a clear case of 'monkey dey work baboon dey chop'."
Keyamo wondered why IPOB, who had alleged that Kanu was killed by Nigerian army, was still announcing his removal 'in the grave'.
He tweeted,
"So, after IPOB earlier claimed the Army killed Kanu, did they wake him from d grave to ask him questions over allegations against him before sacking him as their leader? Or did they sack him without hearing from him? Would that not be the style of animals in a zoo? Is Biafra now a zoo?"

2 Staff Shot, 10 Injured As Ibadan Police Clash With Students

Posted: 14 Nov 2017 01:31 AM PST

No fewer than two staff of the Institute of Agricultural Research and Training (IAR&T), Ibadan were hospitalised on Monday after some men of the Oyo State Police Command clashed with students of the Federal College of Agriculture, Moore Plantation, Apata, Ibadan.

Trouble started minutes before 8am on Monday when students, who shares the same premises with IART&T and Federal College of Animal Health and Production Technology were protesting within the premises against the leadership of the Provost of the institution, Dr. Babajide Adelekan.

The students noted that they were tired of protracted strikes by workers of the institution and various crisis that had been rocking Adelekan's administration.

A commercial motorcyclist who plies the popular Mokola-Dugbe-Apata Road while speaking with Daily Post on condition of anonymity disclosed that students of the institution were protesting peacefully and blocked the Apata-Dugbe Road when the police came to disperse them.

He noted that the melee started when the policemen arrived and started chasing the protesters.

He added that the students resisted the police invasion, which made the police to re-enforce and chase students, staff of the three institutions and other people on sight.

It was gathered that two staff of IAR&T, including Mrs Helen Adekanmi and another male staff who were sht during the francas have been hospitalised and are currently receiving treatments at the University College Hospital (UCH), Ibadan.

An industrial training (IT) student, a male staff Mr. Lanre Johnson and ten other staff whose names were still being collated as at the time of filling this report sustained various degrees of injuries on their heads, legs, toes and arms.

Five cars belonging to staff of IAR&T were also seen by our correspondent damaged during the melee that lasted for over two hours.

Injurious items such as broken bottles, stones and sticks which the two parties used against each other were seen. The items were seen littering the road and the premises.

Mobile policemen were stationed with patrol vehicles controlling vehicular and human movements.

A source said the crisis had been on for two years and the Federal Ministry of Agriculture had waded into the crisis sometime ago.

He said, "It has developed to this level. The only thing that I know is that I was told that the students were tired of staying at home. And they are tired of coming to the college doing nothing. Therefore, they have to stage protest".

Executive Director of IAR&T, Prof. James Adediran who cut off his journey to Abuja described the incident as unfortunate.

Adediran while speaking with Daily Post condemned the ugly incident which affected activities in the institution, staff and other members of the institute.

He noted that it was unfortunate that policemen could not differentiate between staff of the institute and students and staff of the College of Agriculture who were protesting.
Adediran noted that his staff were about to resume for work when the policemen came to invade the premises without sparing anyone.

Those who were injured are receiving treatment in hospitals.

Quite unfortunate. A Nigerian man, Tima Numbere, died an "unnecessary" death after he was attacked by armed robbers at Dline in Port-Harcourt, Rivers state capital four days ago. The man was beaten and the criminals hit his head with a gun and made away with all his belongings.

Tima died on Sunday at a hospital due to poor health system and lack of effective power supply.

According to reports, Tima had fainted after the robbery attack as he went into coma and was diagnosed of blood clotting in the head. He was admitted at the University of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital (UPTH) and was on life support.

He eventually died when there was power failure and the hospital could not change over to generator on time.

He cheated death in the hands of armed robbers but died due to laxity in our health system. RIP!

Woman Who Broke Maid’s Head In Lagos Attacked Her Over "Gold Jewellery"

Posted: 14 Nov 2017 01:01 AM PST

Tempers flared in Ijeshatedo area of Surulere, Lagos, after a woman, Motunrayo Ayadi, reportedly broke the head of her 13-year-old maid, Deborah Matthew, for alleged theft.

Angry residents had surrounded the house of the sexagenarian and were about to set it ablaze when a number of policemen from the Ijesha division, led by the DPO, rescued her.

The suspect was said to have been arrested and detained at the station, while Matthew was rushed to a general hospital for medical attention.

According to Punch, Ayadi and Matthew had been living together at the house for sometime before the woman discovered that her gold jewellery was missing on Saturday.

It was learnt that the suspect queried the teenager about the jewellery and she allegedly owned up, saying she kept the item in an uncompleted building.

A source said when the woman went to the building where the jewellery was kept, she didn't find it.

"She said the value of the jewellery was about N500,000. When she couldn't find it, she became angry and descended on the girl. She beat her up with an object till she broke her head. That was what residents saw and they became angry. They wanted to burn down her house. The DPO and his team were on patrol when they came across the scene and rescued her from the mob," he said.

A Facebook user who posted a graphic video of the victim, however, claimed that she fell from the "second floor" of the house during the assault.

"(She was) thrown from the second floor by her madam; deep lacerations and contours. Terrible! What can be done please? Just tired of this madness," she wrote.

The Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Olarinde Famous-Cole, confirmed the incident, adding that the victim was rushed to the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital, Ikeja.

He said, "It is a case of assault and wounding. The girl was accused of theft and she was assaulted by the guardian. She fell and sustained injuries; we took her to LASUTH where she was X-rayed for internal injuries. She is under observation and the matter is under investigation."

Famous-Cole, however, denied the report that Matthew was thrown down from the building.

The Lagos State Office of the Public Defender had already waded into the matter.

The Director of OPD, Mrs. Olubukola Salami, said the government would continue to prosecute cases of child abuse in the state.

"The Lagos State Government has zero tolerance for child abuse. We will not condone it irrespective of the position of who is involved. We urge residents to be vigilant and report all forms of child abuse in their community. We have asked the police to prosecute the case without any delay."

PDP Consensus Talks Collapse, Throws Race Open

Posted: 14 Nov 2017 01:01 AM PST

After hours of grilling by the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Governors Forum in Enugu, all national chairman candidates yesterday opted for an election instead of a consensus choice.

They also opposed imposition of any candidate by the Governors Forum, opting to allow the delegates determine their fate at the December 9 convention.

As at last night, five of the candidates were ahead in the permutations by party leaders.

The top contenders are Prince Uche Secondus; Chief Olabode George; Prof. Tunde Adeniran; Prof. Taoheed Adedoja and Otunba Gbenga Daniel.

Sources at the meeting, which ended about midnight, told The Nation PDP governors interviewed the candidates on their vision and perspectives on the convention.

A source described it as "a grilling and exhaustive session".

The source said: "The Chairman of the PDP Governors Forum, Mr. Ayo Fayose, presided over the session and coordinated the grilling. Each of the candidates was given 10 minutes to address all the PDP governors on their vision for the party and perspectives on the national convention.

"The candidates were all allowed to be in the hall to listen to each other's presentation. The process was fair and transparent. Nobody was screened but all candidates were asked to respond to questions from the governors and party leaders, including the Chairman of the Caretaker Committee of PDP, Sen. Ahmed Makarfi.

"But at the end of the day, the candidates rejected proposals for either a consensus candidate or a candidate picked by the governors."

Another source at the session said PDP Governors Forum appreciated the magnitude of the election at the national convention.

The source added: "What the governors thought was an easy ride to impose a candidate wasn't the case at all. All the candidates came prepared and were ready for the battle ahead.

"The governors had no choice but to tread softly and allow the process to run its course. If they are backing any candidate, it was obvious they have to do more work."

A governor added: "It is now left to all candidates to sell their programmes to delegates in order to win votes. We have to choose the next chairman on merit.

"It is becoming apparent that PDP governors may eventually go their separate ways. The probability of endorsing a common candidate by the governors is now slimmer."
