Reps’ N6.1bn exotic cars malfunction 90 days after delivery | Mr Olumide's Blog Posted: 30 Oct 2017 04:18 AM PDT Some of the exotic cars delivered to the members of the House of Representatives have developed faults barely 90 days after the automobiles arrived in Abuja. The majority of the lawmakers, 240 out of the total of 360, took delivery of the Peugeot 508 cars between June and July this year. The PUNCH gathered that, the cars, which lawmakers prefer to call "committee or utility vehicles," belong to the National Assembly, though the members keep them in their homes. Each unit costs N17m, which amounts to a total of N6.1bn for the 360 units for the 360 members. Contracts for the supplies were handled by the Chairman, Committee on House Services, Mr. Bashir Baballe-Ila, and officials of the National Assembly. Investigations showed that members started complaining of faults in the cars just weeks after taking delivery. "There have been faulty electrical issues and mechanical challenges. One lawmaker was reported to have abandoned his vehicle at the National Assembly Complex, Annex I, two weeks ago. It was also gathered another member from one of the South-West states called Baballe-Ila last week and threatened to return the car for a replacement. The Chairman of a key committee, who is from Kano State, said, "What the members are saying about the cars is true.Findings by The PUNCH indicated that some lawmakers were beginning to suspect that the cars were fairly used before the committee bought them from the original owners. It was learnt that the Baballe-Ila committee had come under pressure in May after members began to protest that two years into their tenure; they had yet to receive their utility cars. This reportedly happened when a Kaduna-based main supplier, initially contracted to supply the vehicles, couldn't cope with the "large number of 360 units at a go." The supplier was said to have phased the delivery. But, this means that by December, many members will still be without the cars. It was gathered that in a bid to address the supply delay, the House Services Committee chairman engaged sub-contractors to deliver more cars.
Our correspondent made attempts to get Baballe-Ila to comment on the matter but he failed to respond. Also, text messages sent to him were not replied to. But, when asked for his reaction on Sunday, the Chairman, House Committee on Media and Public Affairs, Abdulrazak Namdas, informed The PUNCH that any faulty vehicle would be returned to the supplier because they came with warranty. He said, "The faulty cars reported by any member will be returned. culled from MPNB Mr Olumide's Blog |

Beautiful Mother of 3 Loses Her Legs In Accident; Shares Her Survival Story Posted: 30 Oct 2017 03:56 AM PDT Her name is Quateshia Green, a 32-year-old woman and mother of 3. The successful business woman survived a terrible car crash that cost her both legs. Read her touching story... "In the blink of an eye, on August 23, 2013, I was involved in a car accident that would change my world forever. It is only by the grace and mercy of God that I, a mother of 3, strident college student, successful business woman, and entrepreneur made it out alive. The accident was so horrific, that the dreaded "Jaws of Life" was used to free me from the vehicle. My right leg was dismembered in order to release me from the vehicle, and my left leg was severed instantly from impact by the guardrail at the scene of the accident. The doctors said that I would be hospitalized for at least one year. Miraculously through prayers and faith from my children, family and friends, I emerged from the hospital within three weeks of the accident and left the hospital. I continued running my business while preparing to walk again and I'm now using what most thought was a tragedy as a triumph of the power of the spirit! I discovered my true purpose and calling while embarking upon a spiritual journey through the unexpected turns of life that led to the light of new beginnings and new chapters. I discovered that my true purpose and calling is to inspire, empower, enlighten and enrich the minds, lives and spirit of others. That's Right! My world had changed but my passion, purpose and earthly assignment had taken on its predestined form. I understood, not only did He choose me, but I would inspire others by empowering through hope." culled from Olu famous Mr Olumide's Blog |

Jonathan’s Govt., PDP Tried to Manipulate the 2015 Elections – Jega Speaks Posted: 30 Oct 2017 03:26 AM PDT Attahiru Jega, immediate past Chairman of INEC, has disclosed that the immediate past government of ex-President Goodluck Jonathan attempted to interfere with the 2015 elections. Jega said that insiders in Jonathan's government tried to "interfere with the decision of the INEC to use electronic card readers". In an interview with Jamie Hitchen, a policy researcher at Africa Research Institute, Jega said all their attempts was resisted by the body under him. Jega, however, commended the former President, saying he meant well for "our democracy". According to the former INEC boss, Jonathan granted all the financial requests of INEC. He said, "The administration of Goodluck Jonathan, president from 2010 to 2015, never gave any reason to suspect that there was a deliberate and wilful attempt to emasculate the funding of INEC. "For this they should be applauded. No situation arose where we had to go cap-in-hand to the executive looking for funding and I must add that when supplementary funding was needed, it was nearly always forthcoming. "For most of the time during our tenure, President Jonathan tried not to personally interfere with the Commission's work. "Only in the run-up to the 2015 election did his government and ruling political party seek to interfere with the decision of INEC to use electronic card readers. "We were able to remind them that they had supported the idea and funded it. Overall I think that President Jonathan meant well for democracy in our country, a view strengthened by the gracious way he conceded electoral defeat in 2015." He said the experiences of Anambra election of 2013 and Osun, Ekiti in 2014, helped the commission to prepare well for the 2015 general election. culled from Olu famous Mr Olumide's Blog |

N6.1bn Exotic Cars Bought By Reps Malfunction Just 90 Days After Delivery Posted: 30 Oct 2017 02:26 AM PDT Some of the exotic cars delivered to the members of the House of Reps have developed faults barely 90 days after the automobiles arrived in Abuja. Most of the lawmakers, 240 out of the total of 360, took delivery of the Peugeot 508 cars between June and July this year. Each unit of the cars that have developed issues costs N17m, which amounts to a total of N6.1bn for the 360 units for the 360 members. The cars, which lawmakers prefer to call "committee or utility vehicles," belong to the National Assembly, though the members keep them in their homes. House spokesman, Mr. Abdulrazak Namdas, confirmed the unit cost of the cars to Punch last July. "One car is for about N17m; yes", he said. Contracts for the supplies were handled by the Chairman, Committee on House Services, Mr. Bashir Baballe-Ila, and officials of the National Assembly. Investigations by Punch showed that members started complaining of faults in the cars just weeks after taking delivery. "There have been faulty electrical issues and mechanical challenges. "Some members have complained that they have experienced breakdown as a result of the faults," a National Assembly official said. One lawmaker was reported to have abandoned his vehicle at the National Assembly Complex, Annex I, two weeks ago. It was also gathered another member from one of the South-West states called Baballe-Ila last week and threatened to return the car for a replacement. The Chairman of a key committee, who is from Kano State, said, "What the members are saying about the cars is true. "There have been complaints concerning the cars for months and members are calm because the leadership, particularly the Speaker (Yakubu Dogara), pleaded for patience." Findings by Punch indicated that some lawmakers were beginning to suspect that the cars were fairly used before the committee bought them from the original owners. It was learnt that the Baballe-Ila committee had come under pressure in May after members began to protest that two years into their tenure; they had yet to receive their utility cars. It was gathered that in a bid to address the supply delay, the House Services Committee chairman engaged sub-contractors to deliver more cars. "Unfortunately, that approach too has not taken us far because as of October 27, many members still didn't get their cars. "The sub-contracting might have also led to these complaints of faulty cars. The sources of some of the cars are now being called to question," one member said. Our correspondent made attempts to get Baballe-Ila to comment on the matter but he failed to respond. Also, text messages sent to him were not replied to. But, when asked for his reaction on Sunday, the Chairman, House Committee on Media and Public Affairs, Abdulrazak Namdas, informed that any faulty vehicle would be returned to the supplier because they came with warranty. He said, "The faulty cars reported by any member will be returned. "I am sure the chairman of the committee will handle the issue amicably. He will return the cars. "You know there must be a warranty. And these are mechanical tools anyway; the chances that one or two cars in a large supply will have issues are not ruled out. The warranty will solve the problem." Asked the number of members that had received their vehicles so far, Namdas said, "about two-thirds (240) have their cars." This implies that up to 120 lawmakers still have no cars for oversight and other duty tours. "We can only plead for their patience. Like I have said before, the vehicles come in batches. "I am sure that in another few days, 50 more units may arrive," he added. culled from Olu famous Mr Olumide's Blog |

University Student Nabbed For Impersonation, Bank Fraud Posted: 30 Oct 2017 02:26 AM PDT The Enugu State Police Command says it has arrested a suspect that impersonated a bank customer in a bid to steal money sent from abroad. The command's spokesman, Ebere Amaraizu, said in a statement that the 23-year-old suspect was an undergraduate from Amaigbo village, in the Nwangele area of Imo State. Officer Amaraizu explained that the suspect went to a bank on Okpara Avenue in Enugu to cash $800 he said was sent from someone abroad. "When he was asked by a bank worker to provide a proof of identification, he presented an identity card bearing the name of Peter Eleng, who is the beneficiary. "He had, however, superimposed his photograph on that of the beneficiary and presented himself to be Peter Eleng. It soon became obvious that he was trying to withdraw money sent to another person by impersonating the beneficiary," the police spokesman said. He added that investigation further showed that the account number he presented belonged to someone else. "The police hereby advise members of the public to be careful on how they disclose their bank details and vital personal information," Amaraizu said. culled from Olu famous Mr Olumide's Blog |
Federal High Court orders Saraki, Dogara to reveal Billions for Running Costs & Allowances Posted: 30 Oct 2017 02:01 AM PDT The Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) at the weekend scaled the first hurdle in the legal battle to compel the Senate President, Dr Bukola Sakari and Speaker of the House of Representatives, Mr. Dogara Yakubu, to account for the spending of N500 billion as running cost for the National Assembly between 2006 and 2016. Justice Rilwan Aikawa of the Federal High Court in Ikoyi, Lagos, ruling in the suit, also ordered both legislative houses to disclose monthly allowances of each member. Justice Aikawa granted the order for leave following the hearing of an argument in court on exparte motion by SERAP counsel, Ms Bamisope Ibidolapo. "I have looked at the papers filed by SERAP and I am satisfied that leave ought to be granted in this case for judicial review and an order of mandamus directing and compelling Saraki and Dogara to account for the spending of the running cost and disclose the monthly income and allowances of each Senator and member," the court ruled. SERAP had approached the court last December following disclosure by Abdulmumin Jibrin, suspended chairman of Appropriation Committee. Jibrin in what observers have termed Africa's biggest parliamentary scandals, had revealed how Senators and House of Representatives members padded the budget. He also claimed that the lawmakers pocketed N500 billion as 'running cost' out of the N1 trillion provided for in the National Assembly budgets between 2006 and 2016. Besides, former president Olusegun Obasanjo also alleged that each senator goes home with at least N15 million monthly while each member receives nothing less than N10 million monthly. All efforts to get members the lawmkers to disclose their package have hit the brickwall. But the order by Justice Aikawa has now cleared the way for SERAP to advance its case against the senate president and the speaker of the House of Representatives. The motion on notice is slated for Tuesday December 12 for hearing of argument on why Saraki and Dogara should not be compelled to publish details of the spending on the running of the National Assembly and the exact monthly income and allowances of each Senator and member. culled from Olu famous Mr Olumide's Blog |
