Lagos police arrest seven suspects in new underground kidnappers den | Mr Olumide's Blog

Posted: 09 Aug 2017 04:03 AM PDT

The police in Lagos have arrested seven suspected ritualists following the discovery of an underground kidnappers' den at Obadeyi in Ijaye area of the state.

The Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Mr Fatai Owoseni, told newsmen at the scene on Tuesday evening that the dungeon was discovered by joint efforts of security agents and members of the public.

According to Owoseni, the place was discovered after a highway sweeper with the Lagos State Waste Management Agency (LAWMA) raised an alarm when she heard the voice of a woman calling for help from the canal.

He said that two of those caught were set ablaze by the mob before the arrival of the police at the scene.

Owoseni said that detectives would be on ground on Wednesday with more sniffer dogs and other security gadgets to ascertain more facts concerning the incident.

"In the process, people moved in there to help and also noticed that some persons who had some charms like gourd in their mouths tried to escape and that made the crowd to suspect something unusual.
"For now about seven persons, who are suspected to be using those buildings as base for rituals, have been arrested.
"We will continue to give it a touch of professionalism and scientific approach by deploying sniffer dogs that can also penetrate into the canal to see whether we can get materials to be of evidential value," Owoseni said.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that items including clothes, under wears, identity cards and wigs of people suspected to be victims were seen at an abandoned house near the canal reportedly used as a hideout by the suspects.

According to an eyewitness who pleaded anonymity, two of the kidnappers had come out of the canal in an attempt to escape but they were overpowered by the angry mob.

Mr Fatai Ajibola, an eyewitness, said that some members of Oodua Peoples' Congress also went into the dungeon to continue with the search and recovered shoes, clothes and other female items.

A resident, who identified himself simply as Kunle, said the discovery of the den came as a surprise to most members of the community.

"Most of us in the estate pass through the bridge on daily basis without observing such a thing under the bridge; only God knows how many people that have been killed by the ritual killers in the dungeon." he said.

The police commissioner said that investigation was underway and assured that perpetrators would be made to face the full wrath of the law.

91-year-old grandma bags bachelor’s degree (Photos) | Mr Olumide's Blog

Posted: 09 Aug 2017 03:33 AM PDT

A 91-year-old woman became the oldest person to graduate from university in Thailand on Wednesday, receiving her bachelor's degree from King Maha Vajiralongkorn.

Kimlun Jinakul who was accompanied by her proud family ,travelled more than 700 km from the northern province of Phayao to Sukhothai Thammathirat Open University, near Bangkok, to receive her bachelor's degree in human ecology.

"It has always been my dream to continue my studies,"
If we don't learn, don't read and know nothing, how can we talk with someone else?  If we always read — be it a newspaper or listen to news broadcasts — we will be kept abreast with the goings-on in the world, in our country and in the society," Grandma Kim-lun told local station Thai PBS.
It was her girlhood dream to advance her studies but life got in the way.

She she applied to STOU in 1998, when she was just 70 years old. But, again, life got in the way and she was needed to help out in the family's business. In 2011, she returned to STOU and has now completed what is designed to be a four-year program, but can really be done as slowly as the student wants.

Kimlun said:
"When I was young, I actually received good grades.
"I have always enjoyed reading. I even bought manuals to educate myself so I could help my children with their homework."
Kimlun said she became inspired to continue her formal studies in 2011, once her children and grandchildren had received university educations and found decent jobs.
"It's never too late to study," she said.
"She is a very determined person," said Bhum Juasiripakdee, one of Kimlun's grandchildren.

The university said Kimlun had not received any special treatment in terms of grading.

In fact, she failed half of her courses and had to retake examinations several times.

"The university provided me with a lot of convenience," Kimlun said.
"They allocated rooms on the ground floor for me so I did not have to climb the stairs."

The university is the first in Thailand to offer distance learning to elderly people.

Almost 200 people older than 60 have enrolled.

Jonathan reacts to hate song about Igbos, Ozubulu massacre | Mr Olumide's Blog

Posted: 09 Aug 2017 03:33 AM PDT

Former President Goodluck Jonathan has expressed worry over the reports of hate songs against the Igbos circulating in the north. He also sent out his condolence over the Ozubulu church massacre on Sunday.

Reacting to the ill developments on his Facebook page, the former President reminded that, the Rwandan genocide was ignited by a similar hate song.He wrote:

"I have taken my time before commenting on the killings at the St. Philips Catholic Church, Ozubulu, in Anambra state, in order that I could be accurately briefed on the truth of the matter. "However, I condemn the killings and express my shock at such an event which is outside our culture of respect and reverence for religious places of worship and love for our fellow man.
"I condole with the survivors and the families of the victims and pray for the departed. In order to ensure that such occurrences never reoccur, we must rededicate ourselves to our principles of being our brother's keeper and that without delay.
"I am also disturbed about the news of a song celebrating hatred against a particular Nigerian ethnic group. Given that a similar song is what ignited the Rwandan Genocide, as a nation, we must not take these reports lightly. I urge the security services to do their utmost to nip this wickedness in the bud. "As I have said previously, we must understand and accept that all Nigerians are brothers and sisters born from the womb of one Nigeria. May this be uppermost in our minds as we pray that God may bless Nigeria. GEJ."

In a rare case of nothing short of a miracle, a woman has welcomed a child in Akwa Ibom after doctors removed her womb following complications from fibroid surgery. Facebook user, Pearl Clement wrote

BIG BANG TESTIMONY

With Pastor Dennis Ekere whose testimony was shared in 4 services in Winners Chapel Ikot Ebido Oku today.
His dear wife after a fibroid surgery developed complications which led to him signing that her Womb be removed as measures to saving her life. He signed and the womb was removed and was given to him in a Heinz salad cream bottle.😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭
However he held onto the word of God that… "If a tree be cut off, it has hope for at the scent of water it shall grow again" also he declared that the God that did it for Pastor Bamgboye whose wife's 2 ovaries had been removed but still gave birth to 2 children would give him his baby.
Few months later a very confused doctor told him that at scanning his wife that they saw A WOMB THAT HAD GROWN IN THE FORMER SITE. However the size of the womb was very small.
Men and Brethren, few months later, his dear wife took in, ie got pregnant and delivered a bouncing baby boy weighing 3.7kg last week Saturday.
Yesterday was the naming ceremony and may I add here that his dear wife only knew that yesterday that her womb had been cut off all this while. Asking why he refused to disclose to her or anyone, he said he didn't want her FAITH TO SHAKE.
With my spiritual eyes I just saw Ekere Dennis included in the hall of faith in Hebrews11

Now tell me…
What can God not do?
What is too hard for God?

EFCC Traces N47.2bn, $487.5m ,Jewelry Worth Millions of Pounds To Diezani Alison-Madueke ... | Mr Olumide's Blog

Posted: 09 Aug 2017 02:33 AM PDT

N47.2 Billion and $487.5 Million in cash and properties have so far been traced to the former Minister of Petroleum Resources, Mrs. Diezani Alison-Madueke. This followed painstaking investigations by operatives of Nigeria's Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC

A search of one of Alison-Madueke's palatial residences in Abuja, by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, turned up boxes of gold, silver and diamond jewellery, worth several million pounds sterling.

The former minister who has been in London since the birth of President Muhammadu Buhari's administration, has however continued to deny any financial misdeed.  She insists she is being severely maligned and persecuted by the EFCC. But, on the strength of weighty evidences placed before Nigerian courts, there are a string of judicial pronouncements ordering the forfeiture of all allegedly ill-gotten wealth to Alison-Madueke's former employers, the Federal Government of Nigeria.

One of the constitutional requirements to be appointed to public office in Nigeria, is the total declaration of all personal assets. It does seem like that provision was observed more in the breach by Alison-Madueke.

The EFCC, in the course of investigation, traced another property valued at $37.5m to the former minister in Banana Island, Lagos. She was said to have purchased the 15-storey building, which comprises 18 flats and six penthouses, between 2011 and 2012from the developers, YF Construction and Real  Estate. The property was allegedly acquired in the name of a shell company, Rusimpex Limited, which is managed by one Afamefuna Nwokedim, Principal Partner, Stillwaters Law Firm, Lagos.

On August 7, 2017, Justice Chuka Obiozor, a vacation judge sitting at the Federal High Court in Ikoyi, Lagos, ordered the final forfeiture of a $37.5m (N11.75bn) (Eleven Billion, Seven Hundred and Fifty Million Naira) property on Banana Island, Ikoyi, Lagos allegedly belonging to Diezani Alison-Madueke. The order followed an exparte application filed on July 17, 2017 by the EFCC.

Also in Lagos, Alison-Madueke allegedly bought a block of six units serviced apartments at number 135, Awolowo Road, Ikoyi, just a few hundred metres away from the EFCC zonal operations hub. The apartment has a standby power generating set, sporting facilities, play ground and a water treatment plant. The property was bought at the rate of N800 Million (Eight Hundred Million Naira) on January 6, 2012.

Other properties in Yaba, Lagos, also discovered by the eagle eyes of the Commission's operatives, are located at number 7, Thurnburn Street and 5, Raymond Street.

The Thurnburn Street property consists of 21 mixed housing units of eight 4-bedroom apartments, two penthouse apartments of  3-bedrooms each and six 3-bedroom (all en-suite) terrace apartments.

The Raymond Street property is made up of two en-suite 2-bedroom apartments and one 4-bedroom apartment.

The Yaba, Lagos properties, which dug a deep hole of an eye-popping N1 Billion (One Billion Naira), were paid for on May 30, 2012. The same day Alison-Madueke splashed N900 million for the Port Harcourt estate.

In Lekki Phase one, an upscale neighbourhood of Lagos, operatives found a twin four-bedroom duplex. The duplex is located on Plot 33, Block 112, Lekki Peninsula Residential Scheme Phase 1, Lekki, Lagos, with an estimated value of over N200 Million (Two Hundred Million Naira).

Also in Lagos, a large expanse of land at Oniru, Victoria Island, Lagos has also been traced to the former Petroleum Resources Minister. The land, which is located in Oniru Chieftaincy Family Private Estate, Lekki peninsular, Lagos and currently being utilized as a dumping site, was bought on February 16, 2012, for N135 Million (One Hundred and Thirty- Five Million Naira).

Plot 8, Gerard Road Ikoyi, Lagos, another property traced to Alison-Madueke, is a penthouse on the 11th Floor in the Block B Wing of the building. It was bought for N12 Million (Twelve Million Naira) on December 20, 2011.

On plot 10, Frederick Chiluba Close, in the serene, upscale Asokoro district of Abuja, lies a tastefully built and finished duplex. In the compound, there are also a Guest Chalet, Boy's Quarters, an elegant swimming pool, fully equipped sports gym and a host of other amenities. Investigators have discovered that the property acquired by the ex-minister in December, 2009, at the cost of N400 Million (Four Hundred Million Naira)  was never declared in any of the asset declaration forms filed by Alison-Madueke.

Also linked to the former Minister in Abuja is a mini estate at Mabushi, Abuja. The estate located on Plot 1205, Cadastral Zone B06, Mabushi Gardens Estate, houses 13 three bedroom terrace  houses, each with one bedroom en-suite maid's quarters.  It was purchased on April 2, 2012 at the princely sum of N650 Million (Six Hundred and Fifty Million Naira).

In Aso Drive, Maitama, Abuja, Alison-Madueke reportedly acquired a 6-bedroom en-suite apartment made up of three large living rooms, two bedroom Guest Chalets, two bedroom Boys Quarters, two lock up garages and a car park. It was bought on July 20, 2011 for N80 Million (Eighty Million Naira).

Down South in Nigeria's oil city of Port Harcourt, the former minister's acquisitive appetite took her to Heritage Court Estate, located on Plot 2C, Omerelu Street, Diobu Government Residential Area, Phase 1 Extension, Port Harcourt. The Estate which is made up of 16 four bedroom terrace duplexes is equipped with among other facilities, a massive standby power generating set. Alison-Madueke did not blink as she shelled out N900 Million (Nine Hundred Million Naira) for it on May 30, 2012.

In neighbouring Bayelsa State, an apartment with two blocks of flats, all en-suite, and with a Maid's Quarters were also traced to her. The house located on Goodluck Jonathan Road, Yenagoa is sitting on a large expanse of land.  Realtors spoken to by EFCC investigators have placed estimated values running into hundreds of millions of Naira on the property. The apartments have four living rooms, eight bedrooms and gold-plated furniture.

Aside from jewelry and property, Alison-Madueke, EFCC operatives charge, has N23,446,300,000 and $5milion (about N1.5billion) in various Nigerian banks.

Based on evidence presented by the Commission before the court, Justice Muslim Suleiman Hassan on January 6 2017, ordered the funds' temporary forfeiture to the federal government.

The EFCC again, on January 24, 2017, urged the Federal High Court in Lagos to order the forfeiture of yet another N9 billion allegedly laundered by some bank officials for Alison-Madueke.

A month later, on February 16, 2017, Justice Hassan ordered the final forfeiture to the federal government, of a whooping sum ofN34 Billion naira which has been traced to the former minister.

Earlier in May 2016, the sum of over $100 Million (One Hundred Million US dollars) were traced to the accounts of several Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) staffers, who were allegedly bribed by Alison-Madueke to compromise Nigeria's 2015 general elections.

Justice Mohammed B. Idris of the Federal High Court, sitting in Ikoyi, Lagos, on April 27, 2017, ordered the final forfeiture of the bribe money traced to one staff of INEC, Christian Nwosu, who was arraigned on April 5, 2017.

In the course of the trial, Nwosu pleaded guilty to receiving the sum of N30 Million (Thirty Million Naira) from Alison-Madueke. Upon his confession, the court ordered the final forfeiture of his landed property situated at Okpanam, Oshimili North Local Government Area of Delta State. Also forfeited by Nwosu to the federal government was the cash sum of N5 Million (Five Million Naira).

5 Survival Tips For Those With A Large Family

Posted: 09 Aug 2017 02:21 AM PDT

Raising a large family can be a little tasking, but there are ways to make it all just a little easier. Jumia Travel shares 5 survival tips for raising a large family.

Be Organized

This is one of the most important ways to efficiently manage a large family. You must learn to plan for everything around your family. All you need is 10 to 15 minutes to yourself to lay down a plan to help guide your family related activities, and this will do wonders in helping you sail through the day. These few minutes can be early in the morning before you get up from bed. A 'To-Do' list to prioritize your activities can help with this, and a calendar to keep track of everyone's schedules can also be priceless in helping to keep you organized.

Plan Your Meals
It's very helpful to put together menus (or meal plans) for a week, two weeks or even a month to help save a lot of stress in the area of meal preparation. Meal planning helps take away the burden of having to consider each day what the family will eat. With a good meal plan, all you need to bother about is how to get the ingredients for the meals you've already laid down in the plan. A meal plan also helps you shop efficiently for groceries, since you already know what you need, and it also makes it easier for you to buy in bulk, which saves you a lot of time and money.

Try To Avoid Clutter
Teach your children at a young age to keep their things organized. Your spouse should also try to pull their own weight in this area. Clutter is synonymous with large families and it can be extremely frustrating to have to clear it up all the time. So, getting everyone aware of their responsibility to keep things as organized as possible can relieve some of the stress in this area. Also, you should try to commit about 10 to 15 minutes of your time daily to just clearing things up in the house, to prevent them from mounting up into a clutter.

Make Time for One Another
Large families tend not to be so close-knit because there is usually a lot going on and family members hardly have time to just be with each other. Try to address this by making it a priority to make out private time for one another. Use these times to strengthen familial bonds and to get comfortable being around each other, to really know one another. Make time to be together and let it be clear that the time spent together as a family is the most valuable of any time spent.

Save Time and Money by Doing Things in Groups
Let your children share a bedroom, of course this depends on their number and on the size of the room. For example, five children can be split between five bedrooms. Plan your vacations as a group and take advantage of group and family discounts. Teach your children how to take care of one another, and how to manage portions like food portions etc. In addition, you can save time by grouping your errands so you can take care of as many things as you comfortably can within the same time.

6 Important Things We Learn In The Book of Esther

Posted: 09 Aug 2017 01:21 AM PDT

The Book of Esther is a dramatic account which can give us insight into God's special and purposeful plan for our lives. The story gives us six powerful lessons about courage, divine timing and God's supreme love. As scripture reveals, Esther is a Jewish woman living in Persia and reared by her cousin Mordecai. She was taken to the King of the Persian Empire to become a part of his harem — but because there was something special about Esther, he made her queen.

Mordecai, however, didn't tell the king about a major detail - Esther's Jewish heritage.

She charmed King Xerxes so much that after deposing his prior queen, he could have chosen any woman he wanted, but he chose Esther.

Of course there is a scoundrel in the story, too. Haman is a vengeful and egotistical advisor to the king. He hated Mordecai for refusing to bow down to him, so he plotted to destroy the Jewish people. Haman told the king, "There is a certain people scattered abroad and dispersed among the peoples in all the provinces of your kingdom whose customs are different from those of all other people and who do not obey the king's laws; it is not in the king's best interest to tolerate them" (Esther 3:8 NIV). The king gave him authority to handle the fate of the Jewish people. In return, Haman announced a government-issued edict of genocide.

What could the queen do for her people? The king had not requested her presence in a month. Did his affection for her wane? Was she a powerless sex partner? Of all the Jews, only Esther had access to the king. Mordecai persuaded Esther to speak to the king on behalf of the Jewish people reminding her of her unique place in history and that silence is not an option. In one of the most poetic Biblical passages, Mordecai speaks of God's purposeful timing: "Who knows but that you have come to a royal position for such a time as this?" (Esther 4:14 NIV).

Lesson #1: God has a plan for our lives
Esther knew, of course, that going to the king unsolicited could be her death sentence. Anyone who came into the king's presence without being summoned could be executed. So what does she do? Before making a life or death decision, she calls for the Jewish people to join her on a 3-day fast. Following the fast she put on her best royal robes, approached the king, and told him of Haman's plot against her people. The Jewish people were saved, Haman was hanged on the same gallows that had been prepared for Mordecai, and Esther received Haman's estate. This dramatic unfolding of events moves like a novel and played like a great chess game with several life lessons. Here are six lessons from the book of Esther that we can each apply to our living.

Mordecai nailed it when he said, "For if you remain silent at this time, relief and deliverance for the Jews will arise from another place, but you and your father's family will perish. And who knows but that you have come to the royal palace for such a time as this" (Esther 4:14 NIV). God loved the Jewish people. And, he didn't create Esther's beauty and finesse for her and her alone. Esther was placed in a royal position to assist in the delivery of God's divine plan.

Lesson #2: We are given divine moments to alter circumstances
As believers, there are no such things as accidents or coincidences. God's timing is providential. Esther's divine moment of providence came by accepting her responsibility to go to the king. However, Mordecai was clear when he said to Esther that she could be the one who saved the people, or not. God will use you only if you're ready—or he will find someone else.

Lesson #3: We must stand with courage
"I will go to the king, even though it is against the law. And if I perish, I perish" (Esther 4:16 NIV). Esther was willing to die to save her people. Sometimes we must stand in courage, even when it is not popular to do so, and risk it all.

Lesson #4: Fasting and prayer brings clarity and hope for deliverance
God is not mentioned in the Book of Esther even once. But Esther was clear that in this particular situation, a heavenly response was needed for an earthly situation. Esther needed direction. When we need God's grace, fasting and prayer opens the portals for spiritual growth, removes distractions and places us on a path to humility.

Lesson #5: God demands obedience
Esther's obedience saved God's people from genocide. The reality is that Esther didn't know what would happen when she approached the king. She acted in obedience and by doing so she saved a nation and received the best. We don't get a pass on this one.

Lesson #6: God uses everything and everybody for his divine purpose
No part of our lives is untouched. God is in control of every aspect, whether we want him to be or not, and there is nothing that is not subject to him (Hebrews 2:8NIV). And, the best thing we can do for our lives is to search for and surrender to his will.

The site also claims the legal complaint doesn't exist, neither does the settlement check, which explains why Radaronline and TMZ haven't published it.

Usher's loyal wife, Grace Raymond, is said to be unfazed by the accusations because her husband is clean.

Usher, who is currently in an Atlanta recording studio working on his next album, has not responded to the allegations.

According to the site the 38-year-old crooner and his legal team are quietly building a defamation case against everyone involved — including lawyers and accusers.
