Posted: 24 Jul 2017 04:41 AM PDT We have officially studied the entire book of Galatians over the past 17 weeks to learn what it means to truly experience freedom in Christ. Today I want to review what we've learned and give you some final thoughts before you go out and live the free life Christ died for you to have. Here are the major lessons we've learned: We need to trust that Christ's work on the cross and God's promise to us are greater than our works. It's not about what we do, but who God is and what He will do through us as His beloved daughters. Don't seek rules. Walk in the Spirit by seeking God, and He will lead you to where you need to be. As long as God is directing you, you never have to worry if you're doing too much or not enough. In his conclusion to the Galatians, Paul writes these worlds: "Neither circumcision nor uncircumcision means anything; what counts is the new creation." Galatians 6:15 (NIV)The Galatians didn't need to do anything to be saved. They already were. They were already made new by their faith in Christ. From their example we learn we don't need to work for what we already have. When my son was a baby he slept in a crib. Every morning when he woke up he would call to me to get him out of the crib because he was unable to get out on his own. However, now that he is a toddler and we turned his crib into a toddler bed, he still calls out to me. He has the freedom to get out of the bed on his own, but he's so conditioned to think that he can't. I still have to go in and get him every morning and remind him, "Baby boy, you are free. You can get out of this bed anytime that you want to." You are already free in Christ. Now you just need to go out and live like it! That's the reminder I hope this series gave you. You, Beloved, are already free. I don't need to tell you how to get free. Again, you're already free. My hope is that now you are empowered to go out and live free. Things To Do When You Can't Get A Job Posted: 24 Jul 2017 03:41 AM PDT Being unable to get a job is not the end of the world. It's important to keep pushing and not let frustration consume you. There a number of things you can do to survive and eventually overcome a period of unemployment. Jumia Travel shares some things to do when you can't get a job. Consider Selling Crafts or Offering Your Services If you're a crafty person (you like to make and invent things), you can try to sell some of your crafts. There are many online platforms, as well local craft fairs, that support this and if the patronage is good, you can actually turn it into a business. The same thing also applies to services. You can try to find work doing various tasks that you are either skilled at or passionate about. If the reception is also good and patronage is reasonably high, you can begin to advertise your services and make it a business. If the business continues to do well, you can also consider searching for entrepreneurial development initiatives and apply to them to help fund and grow your business in the long run. Bank loans are also another alternative, if you prefer. Network Networking can be a bit difficult, but thankfully it can be learned and can be very useful in helping secure a job. So, do the best you can to attend events that offer networking opportunities. Work on selling yourself appropriately at these events because networking remains one of the best ways to meet new people and get new leads. Also, be sure to 'spruce' your online presence and ensure it is up-to-date, professional and easily accessible to recruiters and other individuals that are or could be vital to your job search. Consider Other Industries If you've tried and failed to find a job in the industry that you're interested in, consider looking for jobs in other industries. It might not be exactly what you want, but it's better than wallowing in frustration. Besides, you just might realize you actually enjoy this new career field and grow exponentially in it. You'll never know until you give it a shot. Review Your Resume You might have made a mistake on your resume that turns recruiters off when they go through it. So, if you're finding it hard to get a job, try reviewing your resume again. Check your resume for correct grammar and spelling, emphasize the results you achieved in your previous jobs, not just the activities you carried out, and write better cover letters. In addition, when you are eventually called in for an interview, learn to practice interviewing, research well about the company and be prepared to answer any question. Find ways to project confidence during interviews and to properly deal with instances where you might not know the answer to a question asked. Finally, just be positive, don't let your frustrations come through and don't undersell yourself – boldly state your accomplishment regardless of how small you think they are and give them good reasons why you're the best fit for the job. Don't Stop Applying For Jobs It might be frustrating but once you have reviewed your resume and you're good to go, you should continue with your job applications. The best thing you can do to survive a period of unemployment is to apply for as many jobs as you can, and apply for them as well as you can. You can also consider applying for lower paying jobs in the meantime, just to get some money to help put food on your table until you have a breakthrough with the caliber of jobs you desire. culled from Olu famous Mr Olumide's Blog |

Tragedy! 11 Burnt To Death As Bus Collides With Fuel Tanker | Mr Olumide's Blog Posted: 24 Jul 2017 01:15 AM PDT It was a sorry sight along Ife-Ibadan Expressway on Sunday as 11 persons, including children, were burnt to death after their 18-seater bus collided with a fuel tanker. The tragedy which happened around 11am was said to have occurred as the diesel-laden tanker was trying to drive past the roundabout when the passenger bus, reportedly rammed into it from behind. The bus immediately went up in flames as passengers who had lost consciousnesses due to the way the bus rammed into the tanker, were suddenly trapped inside. 9 passengers reportedly died on the spot, while some others who were rescued, eventually died. One victim was said to be in a critical condition at the Seventh Day Adventist Hospital in Ile Ife. One of the residents of Ile Ife, who was at the scene of the crash, told our correspondent that the Nissan Urvan bus was also loaded with vehicle spare parts scrap metal, which made it difficult for the passengers to escape from the burning vehicle. The resident, who identified himself as Macdonald Oladipupo, said, "The accident happened opposite Moremi Estate this morning (Sunday). The tanker was making a U-turn, while the bus that was coming from Ore rammed into it. "Nine of the passengers inside the bus died. A rescue team from the Seventh Day Adventist Hospital came to rescue others. I learnt that some of them later died." The Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps in Osun State, Mr. Anthony Oko, confirmed the accident to our correspondent on the telephone. He said, "No fewer than 11 persons died. A tanker was said to be making a U-turn and a bus coming from Ore rammed into it. The bus caught fire and 11 of the passengers, including the driver died. "The bus had 12 passengers and the remaining passenger of the bus is in danger list at a hospital. I just pray he survives, but his condition is very bad. "He suffered third degree burns, but nothing happened to the tanker driver. He ran away immediately after the accident." Oko said the driver would be arrested with the help of the police. He appealed to drivers to always obey road signs and to make sure that their vehicles were in good condition before putting them on the road. Punch culled from MPNB Mr Olumide's Blog |

Law school expels UI graduate after protesting seat reservation | Mr Olumide's Blog Posted: 23 Jul 2017 11:45 PM PDT The Nigerian Law School, Bwari, Abuja, has expelled a student, Kayode Bello, after he allegedly had an argument with a fellow student, identified simply as Chidima, over seat reservation in a lecture room. The graduate of University of Ibadan, Oyo State, was reportedly bundled out of the school's library by law school officials and policemen attached to the Bwari Police Station on the day he was expelled. PUNCH Metro learnt that Bello's issue with the school management started shortly after he gained admission into the institution in November 2016. It was gathered that he complained to the Secretary to the Council of Legal Education, Mrs. Elizabeth Max-Uba, over the leakage of the sewage pipe in his room's toilet. He said he also reported to the secretary that the water system in rooms in the hostel was not functioning, adding that his complaints were not attended to. The 34-year-old told Punch that the events that led to his expulsion started on March 15, 2017, when he went to the class for a morning lecture. "The class is usually overcrowded. There are no enough chairs in the lecture room and we have issues over seat reservation. At a point, the Head Marshal, Mr. Akinyemi, announced publicly that there should not be seat reservation again because it was causing problems. "When the lady came 20 minutes later, Chidima angrily told me to vacate the seat. I told her that her approach was wrong. In the process, a marshal came and took both of us to Mr. Akinyemi's office. He asked me to look for another seat. I made him to realise that he was the one that gave an order on seat reservation, but he ignored me. Bello said the CSO took him to Akinyemi later that day and the Head Marshal complained that he (Bello) was rude. "I said I was not rude, but was trying to let him (Akinyemi) realise that he didn't do justice to the matter brought before him," he added. Bello said both officials flared up at that point and Akinyemi threatened him with a query. He stated that he immediately submitted a petition on the issue at the secretary's office, adding that she did not acknowledge it. He said he also sent the same petition to the email of the Nigerian Law School without getting a reply. He said Akinyemi announced the query in the class the following day and gave him a copy, which he replied to. "I also made my response known to the class. He issued the query and signed it on behalf of the Dean of Students' Affairs, which is wrong," Bello said. He said the officials suddenly turned the matter against him, accusing him of inciting students against the school management, adding that his room was inspected on March 20, but nothing incriminating was found. Bello explained that the Students' Representative Council was also influenced to issue a disclaimer against him. "On March 21, the CSO and the Head of Academic Affairs, Mr. Osamolu, came to my room in the midnight and forcefully evicted me. I paid over N300,000 as school fee, of which N60,000 was for hostel accommodation. They handed me over to policemen at the school's police post. When I explained what happened to a policeman, he was surprised. He gave me a space to pass the night. "The SRC later withdrew the disclaimer privately, but they had endangered my life and allowed the school management to capitalise on it. I said the SRC chairman should resign as a punitive measure for the disclaimer, while a fresh committee be set up to look into my case. They said it was not possible for the chairman to resign." He said he kept sleeping in the open room until they went for externship (attachment to law firms and courts) in April 24, adding that his application for hostel accommodation during the programme was rejected by the school. He said, "We returned from externship on July 12. I was in the library on July 17 preparing for Portfolio Assessment which started the next day when the CSO led some people to give me a letter of expulsion to sign. I rejected it. They called for reinforcement and I was dragged out of the library and taken to the Bwari Police Station, where I had earlier lodged a complaint against the school without any action. The representative of UI graduates in the SRC, Patrick Oyakhare, confirmed that the SRC regretted issuing the disclaimer. "I met with Kayode (Bello) to tell me what he wanted. He said the committee that sat on his matter should be reconstituted while the chairman should resign. I presented it at a meeting. The first condition was agreed to, but it is not possible for the chairman to resign. It is only the school that can comment on his expulsion," he added. Some students, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said Bello was expelled because the school authorities saw him as a threat. A student said, "Kayode is 100 per cent right about his complaints over the poor state of the facilities in the school. All the students are aware, but no one has the confidence to challenge the school. It is just unfortunate that Nigeria is a country where it is difficult to fight an institution and win." Asked what actually led to Bello's expulsion, the Secretary, Max-Uba, said the management would issue a statement on the issue on Monday (today). culled from MPNB Mr Olumide's Blog |
