The lady was said to have smashed the cup out of the hostess' hand and spilled water on her body.

8 Real Reasons Women Pick Fights With Men They Love | Mr Olumide's Blog

Posted: 01 Jun 2017 03:57 AM PDT

You don't always have to fight for something. You can fight about anything.

Every woman has started that fight whereby the middle of it, she can't turn back — no matter how stupid and ridiculous she knows it to be.

That fight about how you're not attracted to her anymore because you said you were tired or how you should have known what she was thinking — if you loved her you would have known.

Yes, we know how delusional we sound. We get it. But we can't help how we feel. We're emotional and tied to our gut.

We pick fights because we're picking up on something. It might not be about your messy room or your innocent comment about how tired you are, but it's there, tied to something bigger.

We pick fights because we can't figure out what we're really upset about.

Or we're trying not to admit what we're really upset about, trying to push it under the rug, only to let it come seeping out in tiny, insignificant, dirty moments.

We're as ashamed as anyone about these moments. You may forgive us, but trust us, the guilt we carry around is punishment enough.

The only thing worse than being out of your mind is knowing you're losing it.

To see it pouring out, even though you promised yourself 10 times that day that you wouldn't bring it up — to say that one thing you told yourself you wouldn't say.

It's our biggest downfall and worst flaw. It's the one thing we try to control but always lose. So please, just try and forgive us.

Because we can only try and guess why we're doing it.

1. Because we're bored
If it weren't for us, there'd be no flavor in the relationship. We stir the pot, add some spice and give it that extra heat that's sometimes too hot to enjoy.

We can't help it. We like excitement and drama. We like to bring things to their boiling point.

2. Because make-up S*x is best
If we're fighting about nothing, then it should be nothing to get over. Then it's just nothing but the make-up s*x left.

Can you blame a gal for trying to get some hot make-up s*x? We all know it's the best kind, and if you can't get over the fight, why not get under the sheets?

3. Because we've played the chill girl for so long we just explode
The hardest thing about being chill is not burning up from the inside. It's hard to keep the temperature cool when you're breathing fire.

It's hard to be that cool girl when all you can see is red. But we try. We try for his sake and the sake of the relationship.

We try because he doesn't know what it's like to be a woman, to care about things he'll never notice. We try because we want to be perfect.

Unfortunately, you can only be chill for so long until you just turn cold.

4. Because we know he'll forgive us
He's the one person we can unload on. He's the only one who can take our sh*t and move on like nothing happened.

He's our sounding board, our therapist and our garbage dump. We pick on him because we can't pick on anyone else. We pick on him because, unlike everyone else, he'll still be there when we're irrational, neurotic and completely out of line.

5. Because he's refusing to address anything
We're prone to picking at small things when he refuses to address the big thing.

Whether we had a fight over something that was never resolved or he doesn't see what we're really upset about, we'll tear at everything around it until there's nothing left but the cold, naked truth of the real problem and a huge mess surrounding it.

6. Because we care
Caring, unfortunately, is picking. Mothers do it, grandmothers do it and girlfriends do it. We pick because you won't.

We notice little things because we love you, and loving you means noticing everything, from the way you brush your teeth too loudly to the way you fold your shirts.

We just want to make your life better and in return, take ourselves out of it.

7. Because things are going too well
Sometimes it's easier to point the gun at someone else than at our own head. We're creatures of self-sabotage, and if we're not trying to hurt you, we're just after ourselves.

We have the habit of refusing to accept a good thing and only looking for the one bad thing that may or may not even be there. We want to kill the relationship before it has the chance to kill us.

8. Because we like to see how far we can push him
We love to test the waters, see how far you'll go but at what point you'll stop.

Every woman likes to gauge how far her man will go for her — and how far he won't. We like you to go certain lengths but have enough self-respect to know when to tell us off.

Every woman sets her own standards, and the only way to see his score is to pass him the exam.

This was written by a woman, but we didn't get her name from the source.

Gay dad becomes pregnant in U.S. (Photo) | Mr Olumide's Blog

A gay dad Trystan Reese who lives in Portland, Oregon, U.S., is pregnant and about to give birth after he suffered a heartbreak following a miscarriage at six weeks in 2016.

Biff Chaplow and Trystan Reese are already adoptive parents to two young children ,  have spoken of their delight as they prepare to welcome their first biological child.

The married couple have confirmed Trystan is due to give birth in the summer.

n a post on their website, Trystan said that he felt some people are interested to know why he wanted to become pregnant as a transgender person, but were too afraid to ask.

He said that some people think

"trans people were born into the wrong bodies, and we really hate our bodies, and that's why we need to transition. For me, just transitioning normally – taking testosterone so that I have a beard and my voice is deep as its ever gonna get – and appear like a man… that's enough for me."I never felt like I needed to change my body."And I for sure do not hate my body

"I feel like my body is awesome, I feel like it's a gift to have been born with the body that I did.
"So if you can start to understand that, then it starts to make more sense that it would not seem totally bizarre for me to want to create and carry a baby."

He continued

"I can feel someone looking at my face and searching for the remnants of womanhood," Trystan told the podcast.
"They kind of squint their eyes a little bit and I can tell they're trying to take away my beard, they're trying to de-transition me in their heads."

(Photo)UK bans Nigerian doctor for trying to woo female patient with flowers and texts | Mr Olumide's Blog

Posted: 01 Jun 2017 02:57 AM PDT

A 40-year-old Nigerian medical doctor has been banned from practice in the UK for one year.

The Mailonline reports that Dr Chris Uzoh, the obsessive doctor had flooded a terrified patient with chat-up texts and tried to woo her with flowers.

Dr Uzoh, from Cheshire, sent her text messages after getting her number from her medical records.

The family doctor also bragged about being a 'good-looking guy' and spent six weeks pestering the woman to try and get a date and told her that he had 'huge earning potential'.

He also claimed to be 'the best in his medical school' as well as having written 'several well cited scientific publications'.

The General Practitioner from Great Sankey, near Warrington, Cheshire, also sent her 20 text messages.

Within 30 minutes of the appointment finishing, he texted her saying:

'Sorry for this text message but I saw you and liked you and thought we could go on a date on the future.
'I am single and looking for a serious relationship and not intending to mess about,' one of the messages said.

He also left the patient a voice mail saying he wanted to 'hear her voice before he went to work'.

Dr Uzoh later sent her another text saying:

'I've been feeling like a schoolboy meeting a girl he fancied for the first time. I haven't felt this way in a while.'

Later the woman received a card and flowers at her home along with a further message from Uzoh adding:

'I wonder how else I would have met you if not this way.
'My heart is pure, I care, I hope it would be possible to make you mine some day.'

The unnamed patient, who lived alone urged, Uzoh to stop pestering her but he pressed on with his chat-up lines saying:

'I was trying to be romantic – I did not mean to be creepy. I was excited about you.'
'How is it possible that a good looking guy who is a doctor, who has a job with huge earning potential, who was the best graduating doctor in his medical school, who started out as a urological surgeon with several well-cited scientific publications, who thinks you beautiful and special, who wants you – and you wouldn't give him a chance? I've been in a Toronto and I couldn't stop thinking about you,' he said in another message.

The patient eventually complained to Uzoh's colleagues at the Murdishaw Health Centre in Runcorn and he was reported to the General Medical Council.

The father of two has since quit the UK and is now working in Toronto, Canada.

At the Medical Practitioners Tribunal Service in Manchester, Uzoh was suspended from practise in Britain for 12 months after he was found guilty of misconduct.

The incidents began between March and May last year when the woman was booked in for an appointment with Uzoh after complaining of abdominal pain.

'I was really shocked to get that initial message from him because I trusted him as a doctor.
'If I got that message now there is no way I would respond. I was in a difficult position particularly at that point so seeing him taking an interest was a nice thing.
'The next morning I woke up and there was a further text message and voicemail message.
'I remember I was doing my make-up and getting ready for work and I saw that he was calling but I didn't want to pick up. He left a message saying: 'Hi, I just wanted to hear your voice before I start my day'.
'Everyday I looked at my phone there was something from him whether it be a text message, missed call or a voicemail message.
'As soon as I knew the flowers had been sent I knew that they would be from Dr Uzoh – there weren't many people who knew my address at the time.
"You're being too full on – I've only met you once and I was your patient!'" she said.

I RUN IMO STATE LIKE MY PERSONAL BUSINESS, GOVERNOR OKOROCHA BOASTS | Mr Olumide's Blog

Posted: 01 Jun 2017 02:42 AM PDT

The Imo State Governor, Rochas Okorocha, has said he runs his government like a "personal business" held in trust for the people and not with the "mindset of being a government job."

Okorocha made the remark when he received the new Commander of the 34 Field Artillery Brigade Obinze, Brig. Gen. Hamza Ibrahim Bature at the new Governor's Lodge, Government House, Owerri, the state capital.

In the statement sent to DAILY POT by his aide, Mbidoaka Livinus, the governor admonished the new Army Commander to work with passion as that's the only way to succeed.

Okorocha also reiterated his love for his state, saying "my people come first before anything else."

According to Okorocha, "I can see a connection between you and me which is the passion to strive, my principle word as a governor is what can we do to effect positive change in the lives of our people.

"The contact I have with anyone that comes to serve here is the people of Imo state and that is the spirit with which I speak. I always maintain that my people come first before anything else, the people remain the pivot upon which the Rescue mission Agenda rotates."

"I want you to join me in this drive, vision and passion to move the people and state forward. I have hunger for success, despite the huge development in the state I am not yet satisfied because I have not gotten the Imo state of my dream. I am not working with the mindset of this being a government job, I take it as a personal business held in trust for the people, which must succeed."

The governor assured the command of every assistance needed to succeed and further advised the new commander saying, "this is an opportunity for you to showcase what you can do and who you are as you may never get the chance again. Wise men make good use of opportunity and the unwise lets it go, he opined."

Earlier on, Bature said he came to officially present himself to the governor as the new commander and to pledge his support in ensuring security in the state.

He said "our operation is guarded by the constitution and the trust of our operation has been captured in the vision of the Chief of Army Staff which is encapsulated as to have a professionally positive army in the discharge of its constitutional roles."

The new Commander also pledged his total support to the government and people of theED state towards securing a peaceful and crime free state.

Things You Should Never Say To A Child | Mr Olumide's Blog

Posted: 01 Jun 2017 02:42 AM PDT

If you have a child, are responsible for a child, or have children around you, you must erase these words from your vocabulary and refrain from saying them to a child. This is because a child's mind and perception of the world is very fragile in their formative years, so you have to be careful not to impact them negatively with your words.
Jumia Travel shares 5 things you should never say to a child.
"Practice Makes Perfect"
This popular phrase is what most children have grown up hearing and most parents erroneously believe that this phrase encourages a child to work harder and attain great things. However, most of the time, this is not so. This adage sends a message that if a child doesn't win or excel, it means the child didn't work hard enough. This weakens the child's confidence as he/she grows up believing every failure is caused by his/her incompetence or inability to put in enough effort. It's better to say instead that 'practice makes better' rather than 'practice makes perfect'.

"You're Okay"
This is another popular phrase with Nigerian parents. It might seem like the best thing to reassure a child that he/she is okay when he/she has been hurt physically or emotionally, but it isn't right to force this reality on a child who just isn't okay. For a child to be sad about something or to come crying to you, it means the child is not okay. You should learn to help the child acknowledge his/her emotions to help him/her understand and deal with them, rather than dismiss them. It's not like you should never say this to a child, but there are some scenarios you shouldn't say this.

"I'm on a Diet"
If you struggle with your weight, shape or size, try to keep this struggle as far away from a child as possible. If a child sees you stepping on a scale every day and hears you complaining all the time about being fat and ugly, he/she (especially girls) can develop body image issues. Rather than telling a child you're on diet, it's better to say 'I'm eating healthy and I exercise because it's great for the body and my heart'. This can inspire the child to join you and live a healthy life.

"We Can't Afford That"
Most people will think that being bold enough to tell a child this, is teaching the child to be responsible, but this is more counter-productive than productive. Keep money issues as far away as you can from children; they are too young to bear that burden. Choose alternative light-hearted ways to tell your child you can't afford something. You can try saying you're saving for something special for the family or that you'll get it for them later. If the child insists, then it's a perfect opportunity to teach the child in simple terms about budgeting, saving and managing money.

"Let Me Help"
Again, it's not like you should never say this to a child, but you should refrain from doing so often. It's better to let the child ask or give some kind of signal asking for help or even come to you for help, than you jumping in to offer unsolicited help to a child. This can undermine the child's independence and cause him/her to start looking to others all the time for answers and assistance. When your child asks for help, try asking guiding questions or guiding the child first, to see if the child gets it on his/her own. If he/she doesn't, then you can help.

PRIVATE JET OWNERS BLOW AS MUCH AS 30BIL ANNUALLY ON MAINTENANCE | Mr Olumide's Blog

Posted: 01 Jun 2017 02:42 AM PDT

A report by Leadership indicates that Nigeria's private jet owners now spend about N30 billion on maintenance annually.

According to the report, the number of owners of the luxury jets dropped from 200 to between 50 and 100, with most of them either selling out their private jets or returning them to their original owners abroad.

Before the present government came into power, it was estimated that Nigeria had about 200 private jets owned by individuals.

The number is said to have been halved to about 100 private jets, following cancellation of orders by potential owners before the new government came into office.

Nigeria has one of the highest owned private jets owners in the works.

Confirming the cost of aircraft maintenance, the President of National Association of Aircraft Pilots and Engineers (NAAPE), Engineer Isaac Balami, concurred that it is very expensive, as the issue of safety and engineering are paramount.

Balami said that even though modern aircraft has been able to take care of some of the maintenance by just software applications, the cost of maintaining an aircraft still remains a function of the type of the aircraft and the level of specifications certified by the aircraft maker.

Stating that the cost of maintaining an aircraft does not only end at "C" checks level, he added that there was also need for pre-flight, post flight and weekly inspections too, depending on whether the aircraft is Boeing, Airbus, Bombadier or Gulfstream.

"On average, I will say maintenance cost of private jet costs about $500,000 to $1 million US dollars (N30 billion naira) for a year, depending on the size of the aircraft. The reason is because it is the function of the age of the aircraft.

"The older the aircraft the costlier the cost of maintenance. You must also pay engineers monthly and other costs. All these are part of it," he said.

Balami who rated Nigeria as the third highest private jet owning country pointed out that private jet ownership has reduced in recent times, while there still exist a couple of them.

His words: "Apart from America and China, Nigeria is the third in private jet ownership all over the world. From the last administration, we had over 200 private jets and so many other orders were made.

"It was growing up, although some people later cancelled their orders because of the recession, especially when everything is done in Dollars. France, UK and other advanced countries do not come near to Nigeria when it comes to private jet ownership".

Nigeria's extremely rich and famous fly their expensive jets all over the world

As at March 2014, it was reported that Nigerians spent over $6.5 billion dollars on private jets, making it one of the fastest-growing luxury jet industries in the world.

Some prominent Nigerians who are private jet owners include, Alhaji Aliko Dangote, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, Chief Orji Uzor Kalu, Senator Ali Modu Sherrif, Mr Femi Otedola, Pastor Ayo Orisetjafor, Otunba Mike Adenuga, Bishop David Oyedepo, Pastor Enoch Adeboye, Folorunsho Alakija, Prophet TB Joshua amongst others.

Recently, about 30 private jets conveyed prominent Nigerians to Minna, the Niger state capital, for the wedding ceremony of General Ibrahim Babangida's daughter.

DINO MELAIYE SAYS BUHARI GOVT IS A GOVT OF CRIMINALS | Mr Olumide's Blog

Posted: 01 Jun 2017 02:42 AM PDT

Senator Dino Melaye has described the current administration as that of criminocracy which he defined as a government of the criminals, by the criminals and for the criminals.

Vanguard reports that the Kogi senator made this comment at the 2017 Nigeria Democracy Day Lecture organized by the Save Democracy Group Africa (SDG-Africa) in Abuja.

Melaye said the appointment of inexperienced people into government was largely responsible for the bad records in the first two years of Buhari's administration.

He said: "Democracy is defined as a government of the people, by the people and for the people but what we had in the time of Jonathan was greedocracy, which is the government of the greedy, by the greedy and for the greedy. Today, we have criminocracy-a government of the criminals, by the criminals and for the criminals. Wrong appointment led to the emergence of the former (suspended) Secretary to the Government of the Federation, SGF who became a grasscutter.

"When you appoint a man who has no experience in civil administration as SGF, he is bound to misbehave." To sustain the nation's democracy, Melaye urged Nigerians to note that a legitimate clash of interest exists between the legislature and the executive arm and as such, the National Assembly should be allowed the liberty to carry on with its statutory duty without hindrance.

"There is no where an auditor and the man who runs an organization are friends. There's something wrong when the two are seen taking tea together.

"We must discuss and agree to be Nigerians. We have not discussed and we have not agreed."

"Generators should only been used at emergency centres like hospitals and mortuaries so that when there is no light in Karmo (a suburb of Abuja), there will be no light also at the villa."

The senator called for the removal of immunity clause from the constitution. He also urged the government to eradicate poverty in other to put a stop to agitation for secession.

NACA DG REVEALS THAT MOTHER TO CHILD TRANSMISSION OF HIV STILL VERY HIGH | Mr Olumide's Blog

Posted: 01 Jun 2017 02:42 AM PDT

Martins Ifijeh

Despite progress in antiretroviral coverage for pregnant women living with Human Immuno Virus (HIV) in Nigeria, the Director General, National Agency for the Control of AIDS (NACA), Dr. Sani Aliyu, said vertical transmission of HIV from mother to child still remains high at an estimated 28 per cent of affected pregnancies in the country.

He said hence, Nigeria still accounts for a significant proportion of children living with HIV infection, a burden he notes was fed by unrestrained mother-to-child transmission and the dysfunctional Early Infant Diagnosis (EID) system.

Speaking in a message to mark Children's Day, he said NACA has been working with partners to scale-up services for HIV prevention, care and support. "In 2015, Nigeria successfully increased Prevention of Mother-To-Child Transmission (PMTCT) services to over 7,265 sites with 53,677 pregnant women placed on antiretroviral treatment. Despite this progress, a lot more needs to be done to stop children getting infected with HIV.

"HIV/AIDS is a global health challenge of our lifetime but we remain committed to fighting this virus to finish. Research has led to innovation in preventing transmission of HIV from infected mothers to their children and an ever-widening scope of treatment options for children living with HIV and their families. Counselling and testing for HIV is crucial especially among pregnant women to protect the unborn child and ensure that in the very near future, a HIV-free generation is made possible," he said.

FG probes Jonathan over N700bn Niger Delta contracts | Mr Olumide's Blog

Posted: 01 Jun 2017 02:42 AM PDT

Former President Goodluck Jonathan

Former President Goodluck Jonathan

By Lawrence Olaoye

The Federal Government has set in motion the process for the probe of those contractors handling the N700 billion projects in the Niger Delta awarded during the Yaradua/Jonathan administration.
Briefing State House Correspondents after the weekly Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting chaired by the Acting President, Yemi Osinbajo, yesterday, Minister for Niger Delta, Usani N. Usani, said those found culpable in the investigations would either be made to return money or be made to face the anti-graft agencies.
According to him, 60 percent of the contract sum, about N423 billion has already been released for the 427 projects in the region without corresponding physical delivery on site.
He said "Today FEC received approval of a project technical audit committee report which was carried out by the ministry in investigating all contracts awarded and projects and programmes carried out in the ministry from inception of the ministry from 2009 to 2015.
"The revealing content of the report shows that over N423 billion has been expended in the region by the ministry alone, not other intervening agencies. From this amount, project execution rate has been at 12percent, with an average completion rate of a project standing at 5 years. And the impact rate is 8percent.
"So, today we have sought approval from Council to have the recommendations of this report conveyed to the legitimate agencies charged with the statutory responsibilities of recovering government assets that are either misappropriated, misused or fund to be idling in some quarters.
"With this, it means all those who have accessed government resources for one purpose or another must be compelled to make adequate use of same otherwise face the recommendations that go with such violations, and that is our position concerning that report. And we have got Council approval for that.
"It's also important to place emphasis on the fact that in the region of 60percent resources in terms of funds had been paid out to contractors with that 12percent completion rate. When we say 60percent, it is 60percent of the amount of money that was actually appropriated, being N700billion. And so, 60percent of that constitutes N423 billion.
So, to find that N423billion has been expended in the region with the type of result we see obviously shows that there is something tangibly and obviously wrong with how procurement had been carried out in the ministry."
The minister however stressed that only those contractors who failed to deliver on their contractual terms after receiving payments would be sanctioned. He clarified that some of the contractors actually did well and such are being commended.
Asked whether those public officials found to have colluded with their erring contractors would be sanctioned, Usani said those found culpable would also face the music.
"The report has also recommended where complicity is found in the evaluation or monitoring personnel or department, that sanctions should be taken. So, I can confirm that to you," he said

Senate discourages imports, raises tariff by one percent | Mr Olumide's Blog

Posted: 01 Jun 2017 02:42 AM PDT

senate-chamberBy Ikechukwu Okaforadi and Christiana Ekpa

Senate has passed third reading the Bill seeking to amend the Act establishing the Nigerian Customs Service, even as the lawmakers introduced additional one percent tariff on both taxable and non taxable goods coming through the Nigerian ports.
This, according to them, will increase the amount of money in the hands of the agency to enable them become more efficient and effective towards generating more revenue for the country.
During the debate on the report of the amendment Bill, which was presented by the chairman of the Senate committee on Customs, Hope Uzodinma, most of the senators rejected the proposal by the committee to increase the tariff being paid by importers on taxable goods.
They rather opted for the tariff on imported goods to be extended to non taxable goods, as a way to avoid the increase in prices of goods which such policy may create, especially given the impact of economic recession facing the country.
However, the recommendation by the committee that the seven percent tariff being collected on taxable goods, which use to be domiciled in the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) be shared among the stakeholder as requested by the stakeholders, including the Nigeria Port Authority (NPA), was rejected by the senate on the basis that the money constitutionally belongs to the NPA.
According to them, the fund which is domiciled in the CBN for the NPA, is meant for the development and maintenance of ports across the country and should not be shared as recommended by the committee.
Even efforts by the senate committee chairman to convince the senators that the recommendation was based on the request by the stakeholders, including the Nigerian Port Authority, because the money has for long time been in the CBN without being utilized, fell on deaf ears as they insisted that the statuesque ante be maintained.
In his contribution, senator Adamu Aliero, who had worked with the Nigerian Customs Service, kicked against the recommendation, saying that the proceed of the seven percent which is currently in CBN, should not be shared since it is meant for the NPA and for ports development.
To this end, the senate President, Bukola Saraki, ruled that the status quo ante be retained based on majority view of the senators.
Meanwhile, the Customs Act repeal and amendment bill is signed by the President, amounts to the first time the Nigerian customs law is being amended thirty five years since it was passed.

The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Yakubu Dogara

By Umar Muhammad Puma

Speaker of the House of Representatives,Yakubu Dogara, has assured Nigerian teachers that the National Assembly will increase their retirement age from 60 to 65 years to retain more experienced teachers in public schools.
Speaking when he received a delegation from the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) who paid him a courtesy visit in his office, he said the House supports an upward review of teachers' retirement age for Nigerian children to benefit from.
"We have done it for the tertiary institutions and the judiciary, so nothing should stop us from taking the bull by the horns. They say that wine gets better with age, it was the same consideration that motivated us to raise that of university lecturers, raise that of judges. So this is something we can pursue. Thankfully, it doesn't require constitutional amendment, it is something we can achieve by amending the existing law. That is the responsibility of the parliament and we assure you that we will do something about that so that the benefit that comes with experience and wisdom will not be lost," he stated.
Dogara noted that the welfare and working condition of teachers must also be upgraded to enable Nigerian citizens compete with the global world and produce citizens that can achieve development that the country seeks.
"If we don't have people who will sacrifice their time and energy to impart knowledge on our children, then like I said, we have lost the future. This government which is a government of change must be prepared to change the narrative by ensuring that teachers are motivated and the condition in which they work are conducive at all levels, so that they can deliver on their professional calling," he added.
The Speaker also advised the union to channel their request for salaries of teachers to be handed over to state governments or paid from first-line charge from the federation account through the Universal Basic Education Commission to the Constitution Review of the House of Representatives for consideration.
Earlier in his speech, the National President of NUT, Comrade Micheal Alogba Olukoya, appealed that the union prefers that in order to address the issue, "we want the responsibilities of paying the salaries of Teachers be handed over to State Governments in which case the salaries component of the revenue allocation of the Local Governments will have to be transferred to the states and restructure the fiscal allocation of our national resources in favour of the states to guarantee uninterrupted and unfettered primary education in Nigeria."
Additionally, the teachers union demanded that teachers' salaries be paid from first-line charge from the federation account through the Universal Basic Education Commission.
"We teachers of Nigeria in primary and secondary schools do seek and demand that our retirement age be raised to 65 years to increase the teacher retention rate in our schools. This will help to check the rate at which experienced teachers are being lost in the school system whereas younger and prospective teachers are not recruited to take their place," Comrade appealed.

How Muslims can eat, live healthy during Ramadan – Expert An Abuja based Nutrition and Fitness Coach, Olu Aijotan, has advised Muslims to consume healthy foods during Ramadan season to promote healthy living.
Mr. Aijotan, who gave the advice in a statement on Wednesday in Abuja, said healthy diet could also keep them fit and healthy.
He said that fasting was a great opportunity to gain spiritual strength and practice self-restraint, adding that it was part of spiritual requirements for both Christian and Muslim religions.
Mr. Aijotan said the first thing to do after breaking fast was to rehydrate the body before eating any food.
"Your body will be dehydrated by the time you are to break your fast, you will be thirsty and hungry, however, your body will require water quicker than food itself.
"When you are drinking the water, ensure you do this slowly and don't guzzle it down, guzzling water down the throat could make your stomach feel tight for a moment," he said.
He said, secondly in keeping fit and healthy, there was need to eat foods low in carbohydrate but with more protein and vegetables.
"Let your meal contain foods like fish such as mackerel, salmon, tilapia; chicken, vegetables like cabbage, cucumber, spinach also known as efo, green, ugwu, and ewedu.
"Other healthy foods you can eat are ofada or brown rice, moi moi, millet, semolina, wheat meal, 'masa', almond, cashewnuts, eggs, skimmed milk, among others.

Senate bemoans loss of $2.5bn to gas flaring annually | Mr Olumide's Blog

Posted: 01 Jun 2017 02:42 AM PDT

By Christiana Ekpa and Ikechukwu Okaforadi

The Senate, yesterday disclosed, that the country was losing as much as $2.5 annually to gas flaring just as it said that the practice was contributing to air pollution, heat, rainforest damage and climate change.
The Chairman, Senate Committee on Gas Resources, Senator Bassey Akpan, disclosed this, at a one day public hearing on the Gas Flaring (Prohibition) Bill 2017.
Akpan who stated this while delivering his opening remark at the public hearing, said that the towering flames resulting from gas burning now seemed to the local villagers as an inevitable consequence of oil production in the country. Nigeria he added had an estimated 188billion cubic feet of proven natural gas reserve, making it the ninth largest concentration in the world.
He said that due to unsustainable exploration practices coupled with the lack of gas utilization infrastructure, the country flared more than 75 percent of the gas produced and re-injected only 12 percent to enhance oil recovery "It is estimated that more than two billion stamdard cubic feet of gas is currently being flared in Nigeria annually which makes Nigeria the highest of any member nation of the Organization of petroleum Exporting Countries OPEC Consequently,Nigeria accounts for about 19percent of the total amount of gas flared globally".
According to him, the bill will serve as a legislative panacea to end gas flaring, pointing out that regulatory and technical constraints made it very doubtful for Nigeria to abandon gas flaring at the various dates previously set by the federal government.
He further explained that the procedure of issuing gas flaring permit would now be set up in a substantive legislation, saying that the emerging Act would among other provisions prohibit the development of oil and gas fields without plan for utilization of associated gas.
He also said that the bill would address the inadequacies and shortcomings of the 1985 Gas Re-injection Act and bring gas flare penalty in line with current economic realities as well as ensuring the achievement of the international flares- out of 1st January, 2030 and ensure the timely review of gas flaring regulations and deployment of an online real time monitoring mechanisms The President of the Senate, Senator Bukola Saraki, who declared the public hearing open, stressed the importance of regulating gas flaring in the country.
He also said that the act of gas flaring was not only hazardious to health but calamitious to the economy of the country and must be stopped if the country must grow.
Many stakeholders attended the public hearing amongst them were various unions from the Niger Delta region.

By Albert Akota

The Executive Secretary, Nigerian Christian Pilgrim Commission (NCPC) Tor Uja, has called on pastors and the church to take charge of pilgrimage in Nigeria.
Uja made the call during the Special Convocation Programme organised by NCPC for pastors in Abuja.
He said that it was high time for the church to take over pilgrimage, adding that the Federal Government had done enough in sponsoring pilgrimage.
"Over the years the government has done enough in sponsoring pilgrimage but now is the time to take responsibility for the development of Nigeria and the building of frameworks.
"The takeover includes financing pilgrimage, helping in its programme designs, helping in the development of policy and also participating in the spiritual ministries of pilgrimage and supporting pilgrims and pilgrim institutions, '' he said.
Uja had directed the commission to commence the sales of forms so that there would be no issues of delay with preparations and arrangements of financial commitments.
"I have directed that forms should be sold now. We want early preparations, we want early arrangements; we want all financial commitments concluded by September.
"We want to remove all the stumbling blocks of delay in all the processes and we will do everything on time and we will get it done.
"If churches take it up, it will make Nigeria the nation of our dreams and the nation that will propagate the gospel all over the world,'' Uja said.
In his remark, Most Rev'd Nicholas Okoh, Primate, Church of Nigeria, (Anglican Communion), said owning pilgrimage was in the interest of the church itself.

He called on the church to put heads together and agree to teach pilgrimage, adding that it needs to be properly coordinated.

Faulty transformer: Lagos community decries 95-day power outage | Mr Olumide's Blog

Posted: 01 Jun 2017 02:42 AM PDT

Residents of Alaguntan Community in Alimosho Local Government Area of Lagos on Wednesday decried their 95-day power outage due to a faulty transformer, which was taken away for repairs by Ikeja Electric (IE) since February 25.
A spokesperson for the community told the News Agency of Nigeria in Lagos that the lingering darkness in the area had paralysed commercial activities in the community.
Ayodeji Alade, the Social Secretary, Alaguntan Community Development Area (CDA) said it was painful that since officials of IE took the transformer away, they had refused to replace it.
According to him, "it is so disheartening that our neighbouring communities enjoy regular power supply, while we are in perpetual darkness.
"Today will make it 95 days since the community was plunged into darkness, due to a fault in our transformer.
"We reported the problem to the officials of IE and they came to carry it for repairs, but since then, we have not heard anything from them. "When our neighbouring communities are enjoying power supply, we are in darkness. This is very bad.
"In spite of the fact that we have gone to different media houses to appeal to them to replace the equipment, we have yet to hear from them.
"We are ready to assist the company if they tell us the situation of our transformer because the continuous outage is becoming unbearable,'' he said.
A frozen food seller at Shotunde Street, in the area, Chinyere Nwosu, said that the outage had affected her business, such that customers no longer patronised her.
Ms. Nwosu said she now spent close to N2,000 daily to fuel her generator, to make sure her frozen food remained fresh.
"Most of the customers will not patronise your frozen food if it is no longer fresh and if you increase the price, they will run away.
"We are selling at a loss due to the outage. IE should come and fix our electricity, we are going through hell here," Nwosu said.
Kunle Oladayo, a landlord on Taiwo Street, said that most of the tenants in the area had relocated to neighbouring communities due to the outage.
Mr. Oladapo appealed to IE to replace the transformer, so that the community's power supply would be restored.
When contacted, Felix Ofulue, the Head, Corporate Communications Unit of IE told NAN that the transformer was taken to the vendor for repairs in March.
"Normally, the transformer used to be with the vendor for six to eight weeks, during which all areas found to be faulty in it would be restored. "The transformer has, however, been repaired and is now undergoing testing.
"By the second week of June, the transformer will be brought back to the community and power supply will be restored to the area," Mr. Ofulue assured the residents.(NAN)
