Snowwhite, you are the queen of ages- Fani Kayode pens beautiful poem to celebrate his wife’s birthday | Mr Olumide's Blog

Posted: 25 May 2017 03:42 AM PDT

Former aviation minister, Fani Kayode celebrated his wife, Precious Chikwendu as she turned  year older today.Read the poem he wrote below
SNOWHITE: A BIRTHDAY POEM FOR MAMA ARAGORN

From the hills of Ohafia and the valleys of Abriba comes you that makes me smile.
From the forests of Umahia and the lush green fields of Nanka comes you that brings me joy.

From the eastern shores of our nation where stars shine brightly and from where come men whose spirits cannot be broken comes you that gives me hope.
From the lineage of those who dare to believe and from the stock of those who soar like eagles comes you that creates new beginnings.
God brought you my way and has given me a new lease of life. What a gift you are- not just to me but also to humanity. Your star shall shine from generation to generation.
Your strength and confidence shall speak for you all the days of your life. Your talents shall open every door that you seek to enter.
Your beauty: every radiant and everlasting, shall shake the very foundations of humanity and melt even the hardest of hearts.
You are Snowhite and you shall remain as white as snow from beginning to end.
Your sun shall never set and God's light, not darkness, shall follow you all the days of your life.
You are not just the Queen of Pageants but the Queen of the Ages.
From generation to generation humanity shall testify of your kindness, your love and your good works. That is your destiny and that is your portion.
Let not the storms of life ever cause you to give up or forget it. With you there is hope: you are Snowhite, the one that makes me smile and brings me joy.

Happy birthday!

Sexual Assault ::Pastor Omotosho knows fate 9 June | Mr Olumide's Blog

Posted: 25 May 2017 03:12 AM PDT

Judgment will be delivered on 9 June by a South African court on the bail application by Nigerian Pastor Tim Omotosho, charged with human trafficking and sexual assault.

The Port Elizabeth Magistrate's court fixed the judgement day after listening to arguments and counter arguments for Omotosho's bail.

The lawyer to the 58 year-old pastor,Alfonso Hatting, argued that there was no reason for the State to refuse the applicant bail, adding that it was up to the court to give the pastor the status of illegal or prohibited.

He said the State's case was weak and added that the pastor was not a flight risk and had known since October that he was under investigation.

"He had five opportunities to escape but he came back; therefore he is not a flight risk," said Hatting

However, prosecutor Nceba Ntelwa opposed the bail application citing that there was "seriously incriminating" evidence against the pastor.

Christians ‘are tied together and shot dead by ISIS militants’ in the Philippines | Mr Olumide's Blog

Posted: 25 May 2017 03:12 AM PDT

ISIS-linked militants reportedly captured nine Christians, tied their hands together and shot them dead in a city in the Philippines.
The Maute group forced the civilians off their truck at a roadside checkpoint in Marawi City on Wednesday and murdered them after they were identified as Christian, local media reported.

Harrowing images show the group lying dead face-down in the grass, amid reports that villagers are afraid to move the bodies because terrorists are still in the area.

According to Daily Mail, one policeman was similarly caught at a checkpoint set up by the militants and beheaded on Wednesday, President Rodrigo Duterte said.
It comes as 100 US-trained special forces aboard helicopters and armoured tanks battled to retake the besieged southern city from rampaging jihadis.

Area Commanders, DPOs On Criminals Payroll – Lagos CP | Mr Olumide's Blog

Posted: 25 May 2017 02:57 AM PDT

Lagos State Police Commissioner, Fatai Owoseni has warned Area Commanders and Divisional Police Officers (DPOs) in the state police command to shun bribery or leave the state, saying that some of them are on the payroll of fraudsters.

"It is embarrassing to see policemen collecting bribes and chasing yahoo yahoo boys for a DPO. I would not cover any DPO. I will expose you. Just leave Lagos before I get to your station. I cannot share out of your misconduct. I will give your photographs and details to journalists to expose you."

Owoseni stated this during a lecture on Code of Conduct for Law Enforcement Officers at the Police Officers' Wives' Association (POWA) Hall, Ikeja.

He warned that the era of impunity and corruption among cops was gone, appealing to his subordinates to come for transfer if they would not want to play by the rules in the state.

He said: "I am tired of hearing about shooting or killing of innocent persons. No one has the right to take another man's life. It is only God that has the right to take life.

"It is your responsibility as a DPO to know those who are collecting bribe under you. If you refuse to stop them, they will stop you from being a DPO."

He added that: "I am shocked to hear that some Area Commanders and DPOs are on the pay rolls of fraudsters. I am investigating. Just pray that I don't get you. Just know that you are causing pains for taxpayers if you are intimidating them and collecting bribe from criminals.

"It is a curse to build a house with the money. The building would collapse on your head. Some of you even take people to the bank to collect money. If you train your children with the money, they won't be useful to you.

"If those who were in the force before us bastardized it, we would not have the opportunity to be enlisted in the police. I am tired of pleading with police victims because you are doing what you are not supposed to do. Remember, one day, you are going to die and give account to your creator."

CP Owoseni asked the DPOs and Area Commanders to go back to their areas of jurisdiction and warn their men against brutality, indiscriminate use of handcuffs on pregnant women, elders and persons with disability.

"Special Anti Robbery Squad (SARS) should take note. I will not tolerate any act of indiscipline. Learn a lesson from DPO Ijeshatedo, who shot dead a fashion designer. He is in our custody and we are compiling charges against him. He would soon be arraigned in court.

"All DPOs in Ikorodu should use all resources within their disposals to fish out Badoo cult group that has been causing havoc in the community. I am giving you all 48 hours to decongest your cells. Nobody should be detained more than 48 hours. I will conduct checks on the cells," he stated.

10 Ways Your Bank May Be Cheating You | Mr Olumide's Blog

Posted: 25 May 2017 02:42 AM PDT

These days, customers are growing more aware of the many ways their banks cheat them. Business banking customers need to be especially wary of the potential for abuse.

It's reasonable to be concerned about how your financial institutions treat you.

Being proactive about where you keep your money and what kinds of agreements you enter into will help you get the most from your efforts in the business world.

One way small business owners are retaking control over their money is by seeking innovative ways to get the loans they need to grow their companies.

According to Advance Funds Network, here are some ways banks cheat their customers:

(1) Account maintenance fees
Banks have since replaced Commission on Turnover with the account maintenance fee. Although many banks charge maintenance fees, most will waive these fees if your business account balance remains above a certain amount. Ideally, choose an account with no fees. If fees are unavoidable, maintain the minimum balance.

(2) ATM withdrawal fees
While it is true that banks incur fees when customers access Automatic Teller Machines outside their network, these charges are often exaggerated as a means of profit-taking. The Central Bank of Nigeria has reached an agreement with the banks to charge N65 after the fourth ATM withdrawal from other banks' machine each month as ATM fee. Reduce the fees you pay by ensuring your bank has a substantial ATM presence in your area of operation.

(3) Overdraft fees
Overdraft fees are among the most typical ways banks profit from accountholders. Make sure your bank offers protection from occasional overdrafts. At the least, banks should offer email or text alerts if account balance gets low. Interest rate on overdraft should be reduced drastically.

(4) Wire transfers
Except under the most unusual circumstances, money transferred by wire should be available instantly. Long delays are caused by institutional policies, not technical limitations. Before opening an account, contact your prospective bank to ensure that transfers will be deposited promptly.

(5) Credit cards with variable rates Entrepreneurs and small business owners are frequently targeted using credit cards with initial low rates that can make balances balloon in the future. Your annual percentage rate with such a card will frequently go up sharply after the first year.

(6) Business credit cards with annual fees While cards with annual fees are a common way to help consumers build credit, business credit cards should never have these fees. Be alert, since such fees are typically charged only once a year and can slide under the radar if you are not careful.

(7) Business credit cards with deceptive rewards Credit cards are becoming more popular in Nigeria by the day. Banks sometimes want business credit cards to come bundled with a package of rewards. Understand, however, that the exchange rate between the naira spent and rewards gained is usually kobofractions on the naira. Rewards can be used to dress up an unfavourable offer.

(8) Aggressive marketing practices for business customers Many banks maintain commercial partnerships with a network of businesses around the country. Examine your account and credit card agreements carefully to ensure you can limit the extent to which your information is provided to these companies. You should also be able to opt out of "partner" advertising.

(9) Business loan repayment fees If you pursue a business loan from your bank, be aware that paying promptly can cost you. When arranging medium-term loans, many banks will tack on fees for paying off the loan before the anticipated end date. The manoeuvre is solely to protect banks' bottom line.

(10) Limited access to crucial information Business owners have strict requirements when it comes to tax reporting. These demands can become highly inconvenient when your bank only provides a year's worth of statements. Most banks charge extra for accessing older information and grant such requests at their leisure.

Women from all works of life on Wednesday converged in Abuja for a one-day prayer and fasting session for the speedy recovery of President Muhammadu Buhari.
The women, led by President of the National Council for Women Societies (NCWS), Mrs Gloria Shoda said the prayers had become necessary to ensure the good health of the president.

Tragedy struck Tuesday in Iwaya, Yaba area of Lagos after a businessman, Ayodele Megbuwawon and his teenage son, Tobi, were killed by generator fumes.

It was learnt that the victims put on their generator at the lobby of their bungalow, shut the doors and windows before going to bed on Monday.

While Tobi died in the room, the father, Ayodele, passed on at the Lagos University Teaching Hospital, Idi-Araba.

A neighbour, Monday Okey, said, "I was in my room when one of our neighbours, Segun, came and said something was wrong with Ayodele because he had not come out like he used to.

"We looked through the door and saw him on the ground. We broke the window and entered the house. He was breathing slowly, but Tobi was dead.

"We rushed the father to LUTH, where he later died."

Cousin to the deceased, Evangelist Michael Megbuwawon, described the incident as sad.

He said, "We were called when the incident happened. We are from Ilaje in Ondo State. At the moment, we are more interested in his burial."

EFCC goes after Jonathan’s wife’s assets | Mr Olumide's Blog

Posted: 25 May 2017 01:42 AM PDT

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) is set  to apply for the final forfeiture of  choice properties  allegedly owned by former First Lady  Patience Jonathan.

But the commission has been having difficulty in getting the original titles of the assets. They include Aridolf  Resort, Wellness and Spa  and  eight others.

The anti-graft commission may ask the court to compel the agencies with the titles in Bayelsa and Rivers states to release them.

The assets in Bayelsa are two marble duplexes at Otioko GRA by Isaac Boro Expressway;   a Glass House on  Sani Abacha Expressway;  Akemfa Etie Plaza by AP filling Station, Melford Okilo Road; and Aridolf  Resort, Wellness  and Spa on Sani Abacha Expressway.

Others in Port Harcourt are former Customs Service Officers Mess; two duplexes at 2/3, Bauchi Street; landed property with blocks at Ambowei Street; 3 Luxury apartments of four-bedroom each at Ambowei Street;  and Grand View Hotel on Airport Road.

The EFCC might consider non-conviction options  to recover suspicious assets allegedly traced to the ex-First Lady, it was learnt.

A source, who spoke in confidence, said: "Investigations into the assets traced to the ex-First Lady have been completed. What is left is retrieving the land titles of these suspicious assets. But some land registries are not cooperating with us.

"We cannot allow these assets to continue to deteriorate. Very soon, we will apply for the final forfeiture of the affected assets – in line with our mandate. We will apply to the court for the final forfeiture of the assets to give room for those who owned the properties to come forward. We want to put the assets into public use like we have done in some cases of those implicated in the $2.1billion arms deals.

Responding to a question, the source said: " Acting on orders from above, some officers in the Ministry of Lands in Rivers State have been blocking EFCC's access to vital documents.

"If they continue, we will take action against such officers for obstructing this agency from doing its work.

"We have made them to realise that by virtue of Section 7 of the EFCC Act , these officers are expected to cooperate with us."
Section 7 of the EFCC Act states: "The commission has power to (a) cause any investigations to be conducted as to whether any person, corporate body or organisation has committed any offence under this Act or other law relating to economic and financial crimes.
"(b) Cause investigations to be conducted into the properties of any person if it appears to the commission that the person's lifestyle and extent of the properties are not justified by his source of income."

It was learnt that the ex-First Lady had not been interrogated in line with a deal brokered by the Abdulsalami Abubakar Peace Committee.

Another source said:

"Part of the deal was that any loot or suspicious asset traced to the former first family might be mutually discussed and quietly returned.
"But the deal went awry when the ex-First Lady decided to approach the court to seek the enforcement of her fundamental human rights and to challenge the freezing of her accounts."

How Manchester United Won The UEFA Europa Cup | Mr Olumide's Blog

Posted: 25 May 2017 12:57 AM PDT

Star player, Paul Pogba, propelled Manchester United towards a 2-0 victory over Ajax last night in a Europa League final rendered with emotion by this week's terror attack in Manchester.
AFP reports that it was a night that began with a moment of silence, then applause, in memory of the 22 people who died at Manchester Arena on Monday. It ended with United completing their trophy collection through goals from Pogba and Henrikh Mkhitaryan.

Victory enabled United manager Jose Mourinho, who said prior to the game that he and his players were struggling not to think about the tragedy, to bring his maiden Old Trafford season to a successful conclusion.

He had already guided United to glory in the League Cup, despite a 6th-place finish in the Premier League, the Europa League win means his side will return to the Champions League next season.

United became only the fifth club – after Juventus, Ajax, Bayern Munich and Chelsea – to have won the Champions League, the Europa League and the now defunct European Cup Winners' Cup.

Congrats to Mourinho and his boys!

Yakubu was arraigned on a six-count charge of money laundering and false asset declaration.

In his ruling, the judge said:

"The defendant must come back to the country after three weeks to continue his trial.
