A bloody clash between suspected cult members and youth leaders over a chieftaincy stool claimed the life of one Nengi Isere, and led to the setting of about 20 buildings on fire in Bayelsa.
The incident occurred on Thursday in Ogbolomabiri community, in the Nembe Local Government Area of Bayelsa State.
The clash was said to have caused pandemonium in the community as the suspected cult members looted shops and business premises operated by non-indigenes and indigenes. It was learnt that Nengi, who was reportedly being chased by the members of the Nembe Youth Congress, jumped into a river and drowned.
It was said that when his corpse floated along the waterways, some "cult members" in his support went berserk and vented their anger on the buildings, cars and shops in the community.
They were said to have destroyed about 20 buildings, burnt vehicles and looted shops.
A house belonging to the father of a prominent chief in the community, Chief Nengi James, was reportedly torched by the rampaging youths.
A source from the community said, "Trouble started on Monday when a principal member of the Nembe Youth Congress slapped Isere around the venue of a chieftaincy installation.
"He was assaulted for leading a group of youths opposed to a traditional ruler who was recognised by the Amayanabo of Nembe, King Edmund Daukoru."
The Nembe City Clan Chairman of the Ijaw Youth Council, Yenimi Dick-Agbe, who confirmed the incident, appealed to government to intervene in order to restore peace to the community.
But King Daukoru was said to have held an emergency meeting with members of his council of chiefs to stop the crisis.
Security operatives who stormed the Abuja residence of Danjuma Goje, the senator representing Gombe central, found cash in sums of $19,000 and 4,000 Saudi riyals.
They also found cash of 18 million Nigerian Naira.
Although the police authorities are yet to issue a statement on the Thursday afternoon search, there are unconfirmed reports that they might have been acting on a tip-off.
Goje, who was governor of Gombe from 2003-2011, was at the national assembly office working on the 2017 budget when federal police stormed his residence with over 40 officers.
"Our men were there for between four and five hours and they carried out a thorough search," the source told The Cable.
It was learnt that officers broke down doors and all the boxes found in the house of the chairman of the senate appropriations committee. They also went through all the files in the residence.
Recall that EFCC recently recovered about N15billion in a flat in Ikoyi, Lagos.
This time, it is the police special fraud unit that led the Abuja operation. Expect official details.
Britain's Queen Elizabeth, the world's oldest and longest-reigning monarch, celebrated her 91st birthday in a usual low-key fashion on Friday.
Artillery gun salutes in London's Hyde Park and at the Tower of London will mark the occasion although the queen, who normally spends her birthday privately, has no formal engagements planned herself.
Elizabeth was born on April 21, 1926 in Bruton Street in central London when Calvin Coolidge was U.S. President and Joseph Stalin had just taken control in the Soviet Union and became queen in 1952 at 25.

No fewer than 30 persons watching the Europa League football match between Manchester United and Anderlecht perished in Calabar on Thursday evening.
A survivor told said that a transformer near the viewing centre located in the Iyang-Esu area of the Calabar Municipal area exploded during the match and this caused a high-tension cable to drop on the viewing centre.
The survivor said amid sobs...
"It happened during the match between Manchester United and Anderlecht. I heard a deafening bang. I rushed out to see what was happening. When I turned back to go inside the viewing centre, I saw a cable coming down on the centre and this electrocuted the viewers in the hall.
"It was a horrible sight to behold. I wish I didn't come out to watch the match. Come to think of it, I have DStv at home but I enjoy watching matches at viewing centres. I could have been dead. I can't believe that the people I was chatting and joking with a few minutes ago are all gone in a most anguishing way. This world is vain."
A resident, who spoke on condition of anonymity, told Punch that more than eighty persons were in the hall when the cable came down.
The resident said, "The whole thing happened within a minute or two. It happened about 9:48pm. Those that died have been taken to the mortuary. A few that survived have been taken to hospitals."
The Police PRO, Cross River State Command, Irene Ugbo, confirmed the incident.
She said the number of casualties would be confirmed on Friday (today).
Manchester United reached the Europa League semifinals for the first time after beating Anderlecht 2-1 on Thursday.
The English team, however, lost two key players to injury during the match. Zlatan Ibrahimovich and Marcos Rojo sustained injuries during the tension-soaked encounter.

Nigerian-born ex-England international defender, Ugochukwu Ehiogu, has died after suffering a cardiac arrest on Thursday. He was 44.
Ugo, as he's fondly called, suffered the cardiac arrest at the training ground of Tottenham Hotspur, where he was managing the U-23 team. His death was announced by his employers this Friday morning.
Born of Nigerian parents in Homerton, England, on November 3, 1972, Ehiogu opted to play for the English national team despite spirited attempts by Nigeria to make him switch loyalty.
Ehiogu played for Aston Villa between 1991 and 2000, making over 200 appearances.
In 2000, he joined Middlesbrough where he spent seven years.
He won three League Cups — with Villa in 1994 and 1996, and Middlesbrough in 2004 who beat Jay Jay Okocha's Bolton in the final.
He also played for West Brom, Leeds, Rangers and Sheffield United, before retiring in 2009 after a 20-year professional career. RIP!
President Muhammadu Buhari's absence from state functions in recent days, especially the weekly Federal Executive Council (FEC) meetings, has been questioned by Governor Ayo Fayose, who is asking whether or not the president was now governing the country by proxy.
Fayose said; "Every day, what we hear is President said this, President said that without seeing the President in any official function and one is prompted to ask; where is the president?" In a press release issued by the Governor's Special Assistant on Public Communications and New Media, Lere Olayinka, Fayose said it was becoming obvious that a group of cabal is exercising the powers of the President.
"I saw the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Mr Babachir Lawal on television responding to his suspension and what came to my mind was that there could actually be many presidents operating in the Buhari's presidency.
"Perhaps, it is for this reason of possible existence of governments within the government of Buhari that confusion pervades the polity, with the President himself writing letter to the Senate to clear someone of wrongdoing and the same person being suspended three months after on the basis of the same allegation. It is also for this reason that the President nominated Ibrahim Magu to the Senate for confirmation as EFCC Chairman and the DSS, an agency under the Presidency wrote the Senate not to confirm him.
"Most importantly, the President did not attend the FEC meeting last week and the meeting did not hold this week under the flimsy excuse that Easter Break stalled it. How could Easter Break that ended on Monday be responsible for the inability to hold FEC meeting on Wednesday? Definitely, there is more to this than meets the eye.
"It has therefore become necessary that Nigerians hear the voice of their President and see him physically, not through surrogates or the cabal operating behind the scene," the governor said.
Speaking further, Governor Fayose, who described a President as the face and image of a nation, urged President Buhari to hold regular media chat in which Nigerians can ask questions and offer suggestions on the running of the country.
"Since his first and only media chat was held in December 2015, Nigerians have not had opportunity of seeing their President address them directly and this is not the best approach to governance in a democracy," he said.

A baby boy was pulled alive from a shallow grave - three days after he was left to died by his South African mother. The baby was discovered in the town of Paddock, in KwaZulu-Natal Province, eastern South Africa after staff at the timber factory where his mother worked heard him crying. The 25-year-old mother had made a makeshift grave of sand and timber taken from the factory after fearing her parents would be upset about her having a second child. When the baby was found she admitted to police what she had done.
Captain Gerald Mfeka said: 'They searched and found him hidden underneath some timber, covered in sand. 'On hearing the commotion, the mother confessed tha t the child was hers. Her explanation was that she was afraid of her parents. 'This was her second child, the elder one being four years old, and she felt her parents would not approve of another baby.'
The baby was placed in an intensive care unit at the nearby Port Shepstone Regional Hospital. His mother was reportedly also taken there, though it was not clear why. She was released from the hospital and it was not reported what charges she faces or whether she will be reunited with her baby.
Kano Senior Magistrate Court, presided over by Hajiya Umma Sani Kurmawa, has ordered a 20yrs old lady, Ummi Abdullahi to be remanded in prison for allegedly insulting her mother.
The charge sheet, read in court, said Ummi hurled verbal insult on her mother. It further noted that Ummi, on March 4, at Badawa quarters committed the acts of criminal intimidation, intentional insult, mischief and attempt to commit an offence. Police prosecutor, Sergeant, Ibrahim Tsanyawa, said the offences committed were in contrast to the provisions of Section 397,327, and 95 of the penal code law.
According to him, the accused lady committed further offence by attempting to stab her biological brother with a knife, saying the brother had earlier stopped her from stealing a goat and a hand-push truck, belonging to the family.
Ummi proceeded to her mother's bedroom, and knowingly set all the wares in the house on fire, the court was told.
The lady pleaded with the court for leniency, noting that she regretted her actions and pledged that she would not repeat the acts.
The prosecution, thereafter, applied for a summary trial of the accused.
Senior Magistrate Umma Kurawa ordered the accused to be remanded in prison custody and adjourned till May 16 for summary trial.
Aaron Hernandez's fiancée and their daughter were pictured for the first time today since the convicted murderer's suicide. Shayanna Jenkins-Hernandez 27, carried a car seat for her four-year-old daughter Avielle and was accompanied by a friend as she left her mother Jodi's house in Bristol, Connecticut.
The usually immaculately turned-out Jenkins-Hernandez appeared tired and drawn as she left the row house shortly before sunset.
Earlier in the day, DailyMail.com discovered Hernandez had been plotting his suicide for some time, giving away all of his possessions to other prisoners before he was found hanged in his cell alongside three handwritten notes. He had also soaped the floor of his cell so that he would not be able to stand if he changed his mind.
Jenkins-Hernandez started dating Hernandez in high school, and the pair continued their on-again-off-again relationship into college and beyond. They kept the relationship going even after he left her behind to attend the University of Florida while she went to community college in their home town of Bristol, Connecticut.
She was by his side throughout his time in the NFL, even adopting his last name, and in October 2012 - during the baby shower for Avielle - he proposed marriage.
Then, in 2013, Hernandez was accused of the murder of semi-pro football player Odin Lloyd - a crime for which he would be found guilty two years later.
Jenkins-Hernandez stood by her man throughout the trial, and appeared as a witness for the defense - which is believed to have led to the sisters becoming estranged. She also appeared throughout his trial for the 2012 murders of Daniel de Abreu and Safiro Furtado, for which he was found not guilty just days before he killed himself.
The suspended Director-General of the National Intelligence Agency, Amb. Ayodele Oke, has met with Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo, where he admitted that his agency received the sum of $289,202,382 on the orders of former President Goodluck Jonathan in February 2015. A top government source disclosed that the VP Osinbajo-led committee had directed Oke to submit documents to back his claim.
It was learnt that the suspended NIA boss had also gathered documents which would be formally submitted to the panel showing that the transaction was approved by Jonathan through the embattled former National Security Adviser, Col. Sambo Dasuki (retd.).
It said the transaction was known as an intervention fund for national security or special services with the aim of fighting insurgency during the 6 weeks between February 14 and March 28, when the Presidential/National Assembly elections were postponed.
However, operatives of the EFCC are said to be working on the theory that the money was meant for the prosecution of the 2015 general elections.
A source, who spoke on condition of anonymity because of the sensitivity of the case, told Punch that, "The DG of the NIA has met with Vice-President Osinbajo and will submit documents pertaining to the transaction.
"The DG admitted on record that the transaction was authorised by former President Jonathan and Col. Sambo Dasuki, and as such, was simply following orders from the commander-in-chief. He will submit memos and other documents as evidence."
Explaining how the transaction took place, the source said a memo was raised by the National Petroleum Investment Management Service (NAPIMS) on February 25, 2015, two weeks after the postponement of the presidential election for 'security' reasons, based on Dasuki's advice.
According to the memo, NAPIMS asked the CBN to release $289,202,382 to the NIA in cash.
The money was received by the NIA and kept in a safe house.
Why President Muhammadu Buhari was not briefed on the existence of the cash? The source said, "The DG NIA informed top security people in the government of the existence of the cash.
"Specifically in January 2016, a letter was written by the DG NIA to the NSA, Babagana Moguno, on the existence of the cash. The memo exists and will also be submitted to the panel."
It was gathered that one of the posers the NIA would solve was why the apartment, where the money was kept, was registered in the name of the wife of the DG, Mrs. Folasade Oke.
"One question the suspended NIA boss must answer when he meets with the panel is why the apartment used for an official matter was registered in his wife's name."
OluFamous.Com gathered that the money would have been shared secretly but it was huge and PDP men who knew about the cash are many and could expose it if they don't get their share.
A Nigerian, Damilola Adeyanju, has accused members of the Nigeria Police Force of brutalising him and his friend over their inability to provide receipts for their laptops.
Narrating his ordeal on his Instagram handle @baggybaggz, he wrote
At this moment I AM NOT PROUD TO BE A NIGERIAN, and we all are not anywhere near being safe with any of these so-called "law enforcement". Please my experience below; I'm Damilola Adeyanju. On 13/04/2017 a couple of my friends and I travelled to Warri, Delta state for a family friend's wedding to hold on the 15/04/2017. We decided to stay for some extra days after the wedding to have a feel of Delta state since we hardly leave Lagos normally, and so we left for Lag on 18/04/2017. That fateful morning around 6am, we (6 of us) got to Greener Line Park and chattered a 7 seater bus. At about 7:45am we took off, got to Sapele express by 8:30 thereabout, we got stopped by SARS officials for stop and search. We all came down and were searched. They then proceeded to our bags where they found a laptop belonging to one of us. They asked for the receipt and the owner told them he's had it for years and doesn't have it on him after which they grabbed his phone from him.
Getting to me, I also had my laptop and they requested for the receipt as well, I said I don't have it on me, then he (SARS guy) called one of his colleagues to take the laptop to their patrol pickup truck and told us to go stand by the truck.
Another Greener Line bus was stopped and they alighted 4 other guys from it, told them to walk towards us and we all get into the back of the truck. We asked why and the SARS pilot shouted 'obey before complain'. So they got in and drove us away. Bystanders quickly told the Greener Line drivers and the rest of my friends to go after us, because the so called SARS people could take us to a bush and probably shoot us and go with our belongings.
Fortunately my phone was silent and undetected, so my friends were able to reach me and I quietly told them we were still on the same express. The drivers sped up and caught up with us. After driving for about 15mins, we eventually got to a police station (OKUOVO). The got us out of the truck, walked us into the station, pushed us forcefully behind the counter and told us to sit on the floor. While all these was happening we still didn't know our offense.

The suspended Director General of the National Intelligence Agency, Ayo Oke on Thursday denied media reports claiming that he cried when he visited the Presidential Villa and was denied entry on Wednesday.
A statement by the Senior Special Assistant on media and publicity, Garba Shehu reads:
"Widespread reporting that Ambassador Ayo Oke of the National Intelligence Agency had cried are unfair and charitable. "Witnesses to his visit to the Vice President and his own personal account, say that he arrived to a swarm of journalists which he wanted to avoid. "He asked his driver to make a quick turn and instead, he headed to the Glass House, the Headquarters of the Department of State Services, DSS. From there, he put a call to the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina and requested that he help to clear the journalists so that he can make a quiet entry to the VP's office and that is what happened. "In an SUV with darkened windows, no one could have seen an occupant crying," Shehu stated.
