Lagosians In Magodo Raise Alarm Over Planned Invasion Of Estate Posted: 20 Apr 2017 03:46 AM PDT Residents of Magodo Estate, in the Isheri area of Lagos have said a group of people plan to invade their estate and demolish property in a bid to enforce a 1993 court judgment against the Lagos State Government.
The Magodo Residents Association Chairman, Mr. Kunle Eludire, said information gathered by the association showed that more than 1,000 armed mobile policemen, militants and hoodlums were being prepared to invade the estate.
He said, "We have it on good authority that any moment from now, they would invade our estate with bulldozers to demolish any property they fancy within the estate."
Eludire said the case, which had been lingering for about 3 decades, was instituted by one Chief Adebayo Adeyiga on behalf of members of the Shangisha Landlords Association in 1988.
He said the court had declared that members of the Shangisha association, whose land and buildings were demolished by the Lagos State Government between June 1984 and May 1985, be given first choice preferential treatment by the state government in the allocation of 549 plots of land in the Shangisha village.
Eludire said residents of the estate were not parties to the case and that the judgment was given against the Lagos State Government and not residents of Magodo Phase II.
He said, "From the judgment, it was a case against the Lagos State and not against any resident of Magodo GRA Phase II. Apparently knowing that our residents were not parties to their case and that there was no judgment against any of the residents to the case which was taken up to the Supreme Court, Adeyiga sought to join 549 residents of the estate in an originating summons filed at the Supreme Court in 2014.
"Based on our lawyer's application at the Supreme Court, the originating summons was struck out on the grounds that the residents were not parties to the action and so no enforcement can be carried out against them or their properties."
Eludire said the group went further to call him and some residents on the estate to the office of the Inspector-General of Police, Mr. Ibrahim Idris, in Abuja, in February based on a petition alleging conspiracy, trespass and mischief.
He said the residents had written letters to the Lagos State Government and other relevant agencies asking for their intervention, but got no response.
He added that the residents later learnt that the Chief Judge of Lagos State had signed a warrant of possession, dated March 16 for Adeyiga to execute the Supreme Court judgment.
Eludire said, "The warrant of possession signed by the Chief Judge of Lagos State is flawed in many respects and as a result, we briefed our lawyers to challenge the process of issuance in court and appropriate application has been filed to stop the wrongful and illegal act.
"Notwithstanding that the application to set aside the purported warrant of possession has been served on all parties concerned, including counsel for the Shangisha Landlords Association, they have threatened to go ahead with their planned invasion of the estate, claiming the backing of some powers that be in Abuja."
Legal Adviser to the association, Mr. Akin Adepoju, said the warrant of possession was flawed because the group had not been allocated any land or property within Magodo Phase II.
"We are independent people who asked for land from the state government and were given. We are surprised that a matter that started between them and the Lagos State Government now involves residents of Magodo Phase II at the enforcement stage," he said.
Residents called on the state Governor, Akinwunmi Ambode, the IGP and other relevant agencies to wade into the matter which could cause a breakdown of law and order.

Janet Jackson will not accept a payout from her estranged husband Posted: 20 Apr 2017 03:41 AM PDT Following the announcement of Janet Jackson's split from her husband, Wissam Al Mana, just weeks after welcoming their first child together, it was claimed that in Janet and Wissam's pre-nup, Janet was entitled to a huge fortune from Wissam if they stayed together for five years, with their split coming after around five years of marriage. However, her creative director and close friend, Gil Duldulao, has slammed speculation that the superstar was asking for a $500million payout from her estranged husband. Posting on Instagram, he wrote: "I want to state what I have to say as a friend. Even if there was a possibility that my friend could make $500 mil off of having a child, it's not in her character to want and/or accept 500 mil. It's character people and she is not the one. "She would never accept a payout or want a payout. "That's the human being I know. So you f***ers that state that – f**k you. That's not my friend and will never be. Point blank period. "AND if you checked your facts, she has been married for four years, not 5 and something months to claim she will get 500mil. So keep trying, you a**holes." . The rant comes after Wissam took to his website over the weekend to gush about Janet, proving that things were still incredibly amicable between the two, Wissam wrote: "To the most beautiful person in the world, thank you for your divine love, your eternal support and for being my best friend. "I love you so much, inshallah we will be together in the Great Forever x".

REVEALED: How NIA collected $289m cash under Jonathan through "back door" Posted: 20 Apr 2017 03:16 AM PDT National Intelligence Agency (NIA) collected as much as $289,202,382 in cash from the account of the National Petroleum Investment Management Services (NAPIMS) in February 2015 after the postponement of the general election.
NAPIMS is a subsidiary of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) which manages the investments of the national oil company.
No wonder a lot of our money is missing through NNPC. But why? It was also from NNPC's accounts that the office of NSA (Sambo Dasuki) withdrew the bulk of the $2.1bn it got for "Boko Haram operations" in the months leading to the 2015 elections. According to The Cable, funds were approved for NIA's 'covert operations' by President Goodluck Jonathan and subsequently withdrawn in cash from NAPIMS account at CBN. The entire NIA budget for 2015 was a little over N25 billion which was about $160 million at the time — further suggesting that the payment was extra-budgetary. The Department of State Services (DSS) also got huge sums of cash in naira and dollars for 'covert operations' in the run-up to the elections. These revelations are coming in the light of recovery of about N15billion in a flat in Ikoyi, by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) following a tip-off from a whistle blower. NIA said it was its money and that it was meant for "covert operations" — according to reports. There is now strong indications that the Ikoyi Billions might have been part of the $289,202,382 released to the agency two years ago under Jonathan. A presidency source had told The Cable that President Muhammadu Buhari was not briefed on the funds which were warehoused at a private apartment. Although Oke reportedly said the apartment belongs to NIA, SR alleged that it belongs to Chobe Ventures — owned by Folashade Oke. The now suspended NIA DG has a wife named Folashade Oke, further fuelling speculation that our money became a "family affair". But NIA is said to have claimed that the money was only "in transit" at the Ikoyi apartment for onward movement to the agency's property elsewhere. A senior presidency official said, "The circumstances make everything suspicious."

Tears Flow as Murdered Man, Wife, Son Are Buried in Lagos Posted: 20 Apr 2017 02:46 AM PDT Emotions ran high yesterday at Ibeshe Titun, Ikorodu, Lagos, as three family members who were murdered by some assailants, were buried.
The late couple, Mr. Lucky Ebhodaghe and Mrs. Margaret Ebhodaghe, and their son, Jonathan, were buried in their house around 12pm amid tears.
Residents and members of the Deeper Life Bible Church, where the husband was a member of the prayer team and the wife, a worker in the ushering section, could not hide their grief.
Recall that 15-year-old Jonathan, the only child of the family, was participating in the ongoing West African Secondary School Certificate Examination when the incident happened.
It was reported that the assailants tore the window net and cut some burglar-proof bars to gain access into the house late Monday night.
The suspects were said to have inflicted machete cuts on the family members, leaving them for dead.
Their neighbours were not aware of the incident until the next day, when Jonathan's friends and a teacher visited the house to know why he was not in school for his exams.
The visitors reportedly met the house locked and peeped through the window, from where they saw the victims in a pool of blood.
The wife, Margaret was alleged to have been r*ped by the assailants before she was killed.
According to Punch, some residents who identified the killers as members of the Badoo cult, said the gang had killed many other residents in a similar way.

Ikoyi Recovered Billions and The Mess Following It Posted: 20 Apr 2017 02:31 AM PDT Written by Niran Adedokun Just 24 hours after The PUNCH columnist, Abimbola Adelakun, wrote about the needless spectacle that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission brings to its work, the agency out-performed itself in a most unforgettable way.
Like a man known to possess a rotten dentition whose pastime is routinely flashing his teeth at every stranger, the EFCC swooped on an apartment in Osborne Towers, Ikoyi, Lagos, the same morning it claimed to have received a tip from a whistle-blower.
The operation was phenomenally productive as the EFCC made the mother of all recoveries, harvesting various sums of money said to amount to about N15bn!
The commission took its camera, filmed the proceedings and then went on its Facebook page to break the "good news" to Nigeria shortly after the deed was done with.
In essence, Nigerians got near real-time feeds. From the sequential discovery of the incredulous volume of the money, every single step taken at retrieval as well as the painstaking counting, each of those moments was captured in such a way that the documentary can favourably compete with the recently concluded Big Brother Naija reality show. The only unfortunate thing is at the end of it all, the EFCC was unable to tell us the owner of the money, an information that is of equal, if not more value, as the haul.
I can never understand what the EFFC gains from this triumphalism especially when it neither busted this crime on its own steam nor has advanced the intelligence received from the informant to the stage of revealing the possessor(s) of the humongous cash.
To start with, no country that wants to be taken seriously should so publicly exhibit mounds of cash, believed to be proceeds of crime, every other day. The EFCC will be grossly misguided to imagine that these extravaganzas add anything to its image externally, especially as it has repeatedly put the cart before the horse in a lot of its operations. Nigerians, in their moments of emotional inebriation, may hail it on but I do not think that such actions do us any reputational good. Even this government has said that those who have stolen the bulk of Nigeria's money are less than a hundred; these exhibits have the potential of making all of us look like money mongering savages.
It is true that perception is essential to assessing the country's progress on the anti-corruption warfront, but it cannot be from the serial display of out-of this- world cash stacked in all sorts of spaces including the morbid as suggested by information minister, Lai Mohammed, early this week.
Every country in the world battles the corruption cankerworm but none debases the humanity of its citizens like us. Elsewhere, the evil that corruption does is taken with seriousness and dealt with in sobriety. Investigations are thorough and completed before arrests are effected and prosecution, commenced.
When someone blows the whistle on a crime, it is expected that the informer would be in a position to give insights into perpetrators of the crime. And where he is not, a serious-minded agency would keep vigilant, even if it takes two years, and catch someone red-handed before rushing to make news of the event. Sadly, the reverse is always the case in Nigeria and I do not see how the disregard of processes, which the judiciary has identified as the clog in the wheel of prosecutorial successes for the EFCC, could be complimentary at home or abroad.
But there is a graver sense in which this obscenity is unacceptable. It concerns the sanity of the ordinary Nigerian. For a country where poverty is as prevalent as it is here, displaying these sums of money said to have been looted could impair the mental balance as well as the faith of nationals, many of who go to bed hungry and have no clue when or where the next meal would happen.
Perhaps, the government of the day and its agencies consider the public show an important justification of the success of one of the promises it made to the people, but it seems to me that allowing the people to live blissfully, in ignorance of the real extent of the rape of the country, is far more advantageous to a people whose health care is not on the priority list of the government.
It should be said though, that last week's event and the handling it has received thereafter, are consistent with the character of this administration and its agencies. A careful examination will reveal a discernable pattern over the past two years. Showmanship, grandstanding and bluffing are the essential modes of communication for members of this administration, when they communicate at all.
And in most of their communication, the President and his people are consumed with a passion to imprint it in our minds that they are better than the rest of us. Without them, Nigeria would have sunken. We owe our lives, living and livelihood to them, hence we should not ask questions! This is why they only speak to us when they wish; it is why people are held in detention months after they would have been granted bail by courts of competent jurisdiction.
Silence from the EFCC and the Presidency is also customary in the circumstance. Since they do not imagine that they owe Nigerians any explanation, they allow the rumour mill go on overdrive with conjectures flying all over the place.
Then, a bunch of inconspicuous "sources" leak some unsubstantiated gist to media houses all aimed at muddling up things and confusing us into either abandoning pertinent questions or systematically exonerating members of the administration.
Take the issue of this Ikoyi cash discovery for instance; the EFCC which recovered the money and came to the public with it was shortly after hit by a mute spirit, no longer volunteering information. On the contrary, various news platforms have attributed all sorts of claims to unnamed elements usually summarised under the tag: "top EFCC sources". At the moment, no fewer than five names have been mentioned in connection with the proprietorship of these monies, starting with the National Intelligence Agency. I have even read two different descriptions of who the whistle-blower might be. So, you wonder, did the EFCC sources also give out the whistle-blower's identity?
Some news platforms have also claimed that printed materials of the Jonathan/Sambo campaign organisation were found in the apartment. This is not an impossible proposition; its only weakness is that it started making the rounds about two days after the EFCC discovery. And it would be very curious that the organisation did not disclose this fact when it told us about the money! This, therefore, appears to be a mere afterthought
Rumours about the money belonging to the NIA also further the obvious disjointedness in the administration. Recall that the firmest weapon against the confirmation of Ibrahim Magu as chairman of the EFCC is a report from the Department of State Services, an organ which sits in the office of the same President who desperately wants Magu.
A government official said this was an indication of the President's non-interference with the work of the DSS but I cannot find anything more pathetic. It is actually conclusive evidence that the President is an outsider in his office. The same way in which claims that the NIA did not brief the President about the alleged covert operation are ridiculous and worrisome. Does this administration even have a clearing house within its intelligence and security apparatus? Does everyone talk directly to the President or just go ahead to make themselves happy?
This lack of cohesion isn't limited to the security arm of the government; isn't it a known fact that the legislative and executive arms of government are hardly able to agree on anything in this dispensation, isn't the ruling All Progressives Congress, currently a dishevelled mockery of its 2015 form without any hope of a redemption? Why is it that the administration is unable to hold it together?
Personally, I consider the major problem to be government's inability to see its own true image in the mirror. Instead of introspecting, its honchos are intoxicated by the wine of self-glorification and ego tripping. They are drawn by the hype that they are the best thing to happen to Nigeria and do not care what anyone feels about their inadequacies. It is the reason why they haven't made much impact on this country and why, if care is not taken, they will look back in four years, and be unable to beat their chest for having achieved anything significant and enduring.

Janet Jackson won’t take Millions from estranged husband? Posted: 20 Apr 2017 02:31 AM PDT Following Janet Jackson and Wissam Al Mana's break up after having their first babay together, it has been revealed that the pop star would not be claiming a pay out.
The pre-nup agreement between the couple makes Janet entitled to a huge fortune from millionaire businessman Wissam if they stayed together for five year.
But Janet's honour has been defended by her creative director and close friend, Gil Duldulao, who slammed speculation that she was asking for a $500m payout from her estranged husband.
Duldulao said on Instagram: "I want to state what I have to say as a friend. Even if there was a possibility that my friend could make $500 mil off of having a child, it's not in her character to want and/or accept 500 mil. It's character people and she is not the one.

"That's the human being I know. So you f***ers that state that – f**k you. That's not my friend and will never be. Point blank period.
From what OluFamous.Com observed, it seems their marriage is 4 years and some months, not up to 5 years yet, so no money. Also, she and her husband may likely reconcile.

How Young Man Killed Girlfriend, Hid Body In Freezer Posted: 20 Apr 2017 01:46 AM PDT A young Kenyan man, Abdulkarim Njoroge, has been arrested in connection with the death of his lover, Irene Kananu.
Njoroge, a 25-year-old university student was accused of killing Kanau and hiding her corpse in a freezer in his house.
Njoroge strangled Kananu in his house in Mtwapa region in Mombasa, following an argument when she wanted to dump him for getting another lady pregnant, Star reported.
The police arrested the suspected murderer on Tuesday, two weeks after the family of the deceased, an HR officer with chemical giant Henkel in Industrial Area, declared her missing on March 31.
The victim's body was found naked, her head inside the refrigerator while her legs and hips were sticking out.
The couple reportedly fought after Kananu learned that Njoroge had impregnated his secret lover who is his neighbour living in the same block of flats with him.
They frequently argued over claims of infidelity on his part and Kananu had threatened to leave him several times.
The victim's sister, Catherine Nduta, had reported her missing on April 3 at Githurai Kimbo police station, after trying to get her on phone several times to no avail.
Police opened investigations and two days later, investigators broke into Kananu's house where they found Kananu dead.
Apart from murdering the lady, Njoroge was also said to have stolen her car and allegedly withdrew Sh40,000 from Kananu's M-Pesa account.

Makeup ad by Cara Delevingne banned for exaggerating Posted: 20 Apr 2017 12:05 AM PDT A RIMMEL mascara ad featuring the model Cara Delevingne has been banned and deemed "misleading" for using false eyelashes and airbrushing to exaggerate the effect of the make-up. The Sun reports the television advert showed several images of Delevingne applying the mascara and close-ups of the finished effect, while a voiceover said: "New max-density brush for clump free lashes. Extreme volume … Extreme wear." The Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) said consumers were likely to understand from the ad that using the mascara would lead to the appearance of thicker and fuller eyelashes. It said: "We noted Coty's assertion that the post-production techniques used were not intended to lengthen the model's eyelashes. However, we considered that they did appear to be longer in the after photo. "Because the ad conveyed a volumising, lengthening and thickening effect of the product we considered the use of lash inserts and the post-production technique were likely to exaggerate the effect beyond what could be achieved by the product among consumers. We therefore concluded the ad was misleading." The ASA ruled that the ad must not appear again in its current form, and told Coty UK "not to exaggerate the effect the product was capable of achieving". Source: The Sun

Lagos & Taxes: What Does Public Utility Levy Mean? Mixed Reactions Trail New Tax Posted: 20 Apr 2017 12:02 AM PDT Following the announcement by Lagos State Government through the Ministry of Environment that the State will commence collection of an annual Public Utility Levy, Lagosians have expressed their dissatisfaction on the move by the government. According to Commissioner for Environment, Dr. Babatunde Adejare who spoke during the 2017 Press Briefing of the State which held on Tuesday, the government introduced an Environmental Trust Fund which "will provide payment of fees to service providers, concessionaries and contractors under the Cleaner Lagos Initiative."
Speaking on the new utility levy, he said "a Public Utility Levy (PUL) will be paid annually on all properties in the State into an Environmental Trust Fund."
He added that "a Waste Service Company has been concessioned to provide waste collection services to residential premises in the State."
The PUL under the Environmental Trust Fund was established as a funding mechanism to aid in the tackling of crucial environmental issues and the implementation of the Cleaner Lagos Initiative.
Meanwhile, some Lagosians have taken to social media platforms to express their displeasure on the new move by the government. The move was described as multiple taxation by the Lagos residents who already have various levies such as Land Use Charge, Waste Management Bill, Water Bill, among others they pay to the government coffers on a regular basis.
According to a Twitter user, Deji Dokun, "First drilling boreholes would be an offense, now Public Utility Levy. What does that even mean?"
Another user, S Adesanwo asked rhetorically that "Pls after this, would I still pay a separate fee for waste disposal, water, still generate power and hire security men??"
To Olusegun Popoola, "this is not a good idea. It is completely counter intuitive." He added that "we are watching this space. These multiple taxes are definitely not the way to go. What does Public Utility Levy mean?"
Black Beard sees the new move as "one burden too many after paying for land use charge, LAWMA, PHCN, water bill, etc, what are the elites paying for in Lagos?"
To Seyi Ajayi, "This can not pass if we,really engage our legislators. They will do that because they know we shall absorb it. In Nigeria government puts rope on the citizen's neck not to eat while they finish the food."

Leading figures in India to face trial over mosque destroyed 16 years ago Posted: 19 Apr 2017 11:50 PM PDT India's Supreme Court has ordered that the co-founder of the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party, LK Advani, and other leaders be tried for criminal conspiracy in the demolition of a 16th century mosque about 25 years ago. The Babri Masjid in Ayodhya, in the northern Uttar Pradesh state, was pulled down by Hindu activists on December 6, 1992, leading to widespread riots in which more than 2,000 people died. Advani, 89, along with Murli Manohar Joshi and Uma Bharti, has previously been charged with making inflammatory speeches which incited the activists to demolish the structure. The Supreme Court's ruling on Wednesday came after a lower court dropped the charges brought against them by India's Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), kicking off a series of appeals and counter-appeals. "We have allowed the CBI appeal against the Allahabad High Court judgement with certain directions," the Press Trust of India news agency quoted the Supreme Court judges as saying. The court ruled that the leaders will face the more serious charge of conspiracy and be tried by a special court in Lucknow city dealing with the actual demolition of the mosque, Zafaryab Jilani, a lawyer for the petitioner, said on Wednesday. "The judges set aside previous court orders that dropped conspiracy charges against these leaders. It accepted appeals by the prosecution and on our behalf to revive the charges," Jilani said.

“It is a breath of fresh air for Nigerians” – Yoruba group rejoices over suspension of NIA DG, SGF Posted: 19 Apr 2017 11:35 PM PDT Yoruba Unity Forum (YUF), an umbrella body of all Yoruba organizations, has described the suspension of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Babachir David Lawal, and the Director General of the National Intelligence Agency (NIA), Dr. Ayodele Oke as a breath of fresh air for Nigerians.
The group said it was a right step taken by President Muhammadu Buhari. YUF said the suspension of Lawal and Oke would give room for thorough probe of corruption allegations against them. The Forum stated this during its executive meeting held in Ikenne, Ogun State, home of the Awolowos on Wednesday. The Vice-chairman of the organization, Arch Bishop Ayo Ladigbolu, saluted the President for taking the bold step. He said: "This is a government that is committed to transparency and honesty and a government that has made the fight against corruption one of its pillars. I believe this is a decision in the right direction. "It is a breath of fresh air for Nigerians and of course suspension means suspension which creates room for thorough investigation. We will await the outcome of the investigations but certainly I believe what the President has done is what a leader committed to fighting corruption should do, we commend him." In attendance at the meeting were Senator Femi Okurounmu, Senator Anthony Adefuye, Dr. Kunle Olajide, the co-chairman of the African Newspapers of Nigeria (ANN) Plc, Dr. Olatokunbo Awolowo – Dosumu, former Deputy Governor of Lagos State, Senator Kofoworola Bucknor-Akerele, Mr. Tokunbo Ajasin and Princess Adebisi Sangodoyin, among others
