How To Overcome Evil As A Child of God

Posted: 06 Feb 2018 02:56 AM PST

You can't really stop evil people from carrying out their evil deeds. But you can overcome evil by doing the good, God-glorifying work that Christ has called you to do.

Here are 6 things you can do to overcome evil:
1. Remember that You Are Created for Good
In the face of evil I must remember I was created for good. In a passage where Paul tells his readers to bless those who curse us, not to repay evil with evil, and to live in peace and harmony with others as much as we can, he ends the paragraph with this sentence: "Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good" (Romans 12:21). Overcoming evil with good starts with treating people in a God-honoring way. It means recognizing my inherent worth and the worth of my neighbor, no matter what the world may tell me.

2. Remind Yourself that You Are Prepared for Good
Our world has so many needs, it is easy to become overwhelmed and think that what I do will not make a lasting impact. This may be because I see myself as too insignificant to make a difference. But my significance is not the issue. God has work prepared in advance for me to accomplish. As Ephesians 2:10 says, "For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them." God has prepared good works for me to accomplish in my lifetime. That doesn't mean the task will be easy, but it does mean God will strengthen me to do what he calls me to do.

3. Start Small
Intellectually, I know the world needs the light of good works to shine and I know that God will equip me. My heart resonates with the old saying, "It is better to light a candle than to curse the darkness." But I often struggle with where to begin practically. This is often because I start thinking of all the "important" ways I'd like to participate in doing good: helping with refugee placement at a local nonprofit in my area, offering childcare at a local women's shelter, or volunteering with an organization that helps women who have been s*x trafficked.

Perhaps my idea of good works is too large right now. It's true, doing good could look like adopting a child, providing foster care, or heading up a non-profit. But right now as a mom to four - including a toddler - my capacity to participate in the ways I dream of is not really an option for me in this season of life. So I need to start small.

4. Start at Church
You might be surprised to find many hurting and needy people in your own church. In the same passage where Paul tells us to overcome evil with good he also instructs, "Share with the Lord's people who are in need. Practice hospitality (Romans 12:13)." Does someone need a meal, a ride, or prayer? Is someone having surgery and need emotional support? Does someone have financial needs? Does your church already volunteer in the community? You may be surprised how much you're needed in your own church.

5. Start Local
We've been told to "think global, act local." I can't think of a better way think about combating evil than where it exists in my own town or city. I might not be able to solve the refugee crises but I can help refugee organizations in our own country. I might not be able to adopt but I can sponsor a child in poverty to give them an educational advantage. I might not be able to mentor victims of s*x trafficking right now, but I'm doing what I can where I am right now, like:

· Donating baby items to the local women's shelter instead of trying to sell them.

· Gathering supplies from members in my church to donate to the housing needs of refugees.

· Sponsoring a child through an organization that will see to his medical and educational needs.

· Gifting a Thanksgiving basket of food supplies to the organization that helps victims of sex trafficking.

Trying to make ethical purchases that empower women's businesses around the world that will help break cycles of poverty and abuse.

6. Don't Let the Light Go Out
Such actions seem really small to me right now. And the desire to do more still stirs in my soul. But when I focus on shining the light and life of God's goodness and grace into the darkness and death I see around me, I discover I'm no longer scared of it. I pray even my smallest actions will produce a legacy of love and light that pushes against the dark.

I have lit my candle. It will not go out.

Couple Set To Marry After Dating For 9 Years, Share Lovely Photos

Posted: 06 Feb 2018 01:46 AM PST

It is a beautiful moment for a lovely couple who have dated for 9 good years as they get set to finally settle down as husband and wife.

The bride-to-be Esther Hananiya shared the story how she and her fiance dated for 9 years before deciding to tie the knot.

Read their story and see more pics:

"Wheeew, it's very overwhelming how we got here boo, it's actually 9yrs, nine good years when you toasted me in the most weirdest way ever (lol, we'v been friends for a while sha), you said and I quote "well, everybody is already saying we are dating, so why don't we just date?".

Hmmm, I was laughing very hard and childishly said "okay then, why not", and booom, that was it. Yes Yes Yes, I am already writing a diary but without even saying all I want to cos 9years ain't a joke. In just nine days I would be saying "I DO" to the one person I truly call my personal person and find peace. What kept us this long and still head over heels for you?

That answer I do not have and will never have cos you ain't perfect baby, but it's your little imperfect qualities combined that makes you perfect just for me. In 9 days, you would be wrapped in a shinny gift wrap, and would be signed, sealed and delivered to me from heaven to keep forever, and you will be the greatest gift and treasure I will ever receive (that's until our babies starts flowing in).

I love d man u'v been all these years, and i pray u become a better part of urself dat i am yet to experience. My pudding, my male kabuby (laughs), the only man dat has kept me stuck for 9 straight years whoop whoop...u deserve a medal baby."

Don Waney‘s Gang Top Members Surrender

Posted: 06 Feb 2018 01:16 AM PST

Don Waney's empire of crime keeps collapsing after his bloody end, which was ignited by the New Year's Day killings in Omoku area of Rivers State.

Emenike Agamu (aka General Red Scorpion), who is said to be the fourth in-command in the Don Waney cult gang, yesterday surrendered his arms to security operatives.

The incident happened in Owerri, the Imo State capital. Members of the group were declared wanted and its leader, John Igwedibe (aka Don Waney) was gunned down in Enugu by security agents.

His younger brother was shot dead days later.

It was later found out that the group had bases across the Southsouth and Southeast, including the Imo riverine community which borders Rivers State.

Agamu, who is among the suspected cultists declared wanted by the Rivers State government, surrendered alongside other Don Waney boys who had earlier rejected the government's amnesty offer.

Red Scorpion confessed that the militant group killed many people and blew up many oil pipelines.

The group submitted explosives, rocket launchers and high calibre rifles, such as AK47, among others.

Receiving the repentant militants, Imo State Governor Rochas Okorocha said the development would ensure lasting peace in the oil producing areas.

He said: "It is very shocking to note that most of the activists of the Avengers and those of Don Waney operatives are our sons and daughters and their surrendering arms will end the security challenges we have in the Ohaji/Egbema, Awara and the rest of the areas where people have been on self-exile for many years."

He added: "Today, we are welcoming back our brothers and sisters who have remained in the creeks and forest for so many years, perpetuating all kinds of evil, killing and maiming human beings.

"But today, glory to God, these our children have decided on their own to come back to the society and be part of the society.

"They are doing so on their own, surrendering arms which they have used in committing criminal activities for what they called expression of grievances of different sorts.

"We, as a government, are happy, particularly that these young boys and girls will now come back as good citizens of Imo State. We are here to receive them and listen to them. What they say today will determine the role of government in assisting them and making sure they become good citizens once more. It is the wish of the Niger Delta people to welcome you back as good citizens."

The governor recalled that three weeks ago, Don Waney was killed. Most of these boys are his colleagues and generals in the bush. Today, we are gladdened that the lives of these boys have not been left in the hands of the military and police who would have wasted them but today they are being reintegrated into our society to become good citizens," he said, adding:

"We as a government that is sensitive to the plight of the people are here to intervene before the matter gets out of hand. Last year and last two years, we did a similar exercise and most of those youths are now doing well."

"We want to remove terror from Ohaji/Egbema. This is one of my campaign promises that I will change the lives of Ohaji/Egbema people. Terror is going out from the region. These are the children that drove away their traditional rulers, parents and brothers but today the story is different. We don't want to hear the stories of Avengers and Don Waney again.

"The state has forgiven them and will subsequently give their names to the Federal Government for amnesty."
