5 Refreshing Benefits of Starting Afresh

Posted: 08 Jan 2018 02:01 AM PST

Sometimes you really need to rest and start afresh to get better results for your plans.

Rest is something we are designed to do. God has both a purpose and a plan for it. So maybe it would be helpful to consider some of the benefits of rest.

1. Rest Re-Orients Our Thinking Patterns
When we are weary and fatigued, it's the perfect time for the enemy to sow his lies and weave a blanket of discouragement we want to curl up under.

Rest brings our thinking into focus and allows us to see clearly what God says about what we are facing, in His word and through His past faithfulness.

Rest brings the reality of God's strength and provision into view. We need to remind ourselves that He is the victor. We need Truth so we can wield it against the enemy's taunts. Rest enables us to see the devil as he really is: a liar, cheat, accuser and more.

2. Rest Refreshes Us
Like a sip of cold water to the thirsty, we'll never know how much we need rest until we put our feet up.

Worry and striving will fade away when we allow God to be our source for all things. When we give our mind and heart some wiggle room, we discover peace and the strength to open our hands to release the burdens that weigh us down.

3. Rest Recharges Our Batteries
We can simply be worn out. Stress, worry, busyness, over-commitment — all of this wears us down. We need to recharge — and only resting can accomplish that. There comes a time when we have to just say, "That's it. I am taking the time to rest."

Times of rest are never wasted. God is God. He is at work even when we sleep. Resting allows for us to admit we need His strength.

4. Rest Helps Us to Refocus
Fatigue skews our outlook until we are staring in the face of the Deadly-D's:
Doubt
Discouragement
Defeat
Despair

Rest helps us to adjust our focus so we can see our situation more clearly. We gain perspective as we are quiet in God's presence, immersed in His word and surrendered to His care.

5. Rest Revives
Once we succumb to the weariness, our response to things to do or places to go is apathy. We don't have the energy — our margin is worn thin and we would rather hibernate.

Rest revives us with the energy that we lack so that we can flourish and get excited about life again.

How mastermind of Jan 1 Rivers’ attack was killed –Army | Mr Olumide's Blog

Posted: 08 Jan 2018 01:46 AM PST

The Nigerian Army on Sunday gave an insight into how a suspected cult member, kidnapper and militant, Prince Johnson Igwedibia, aka Don Waney, was killed in his hideout in a community in Enugu State.

The outgoing General Officer Commanding, 6 Division of the Nigerian Army, Port Harcourt, Maj. Gen. Enobong Udoh, told journalists, while displaying the bodies of Don Waney, his second-in-command, identified as Ikechukwu; and one other suspect, that security agents trailed the hoodlums to Enugu where they met their Waterloo.

Udoh said Don Waney and his gang members had earlier relocated to a community in Imo State before he (Don Waney) decided to rent an apartment in Enugu.

Maintaining that the cult leader was responsible for the killing of 22 persons on the New Year's Day massacre in the Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni Local Government Area, Udoh said the second-in-command to Don Waney led the onslaught against residents who had just observed the New Year's Eve

The army boss explained that the gang had planned another bloodbath in Omoku before they (Don Waney and two others) were killed in their new hideout in Enugu by operatives of the Nigerian Army and the Department of State Services.

"You will recall that in the first hours of the New Year, January 1, 2018, there was mayhem in which 22 innocent residents of Omoku in Rivers State were heartlessly murdered while coming back from the New Year's Eve

"After that, you will also recall that there was a directive from Mr. President that the heartless killers and perpetrators of that mayhem must be hunted down and brought to book.

"This directive was conveyed in a mandate by the Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Tukur Buratai, to the 6 Division to collaborate with the DSS, the police and all other security agencies in Rivers State to hunt down and bring to book the perpetrators "They initially hid somewhere in Imo State. We later traced them to Enugu, where he (Don Waney) rented an apartment and lived with other people. From there, he and his group were planning another attack on
Udoh noted that the General Officer Commanding, 82 Division, Enugu, contributed to the success of the operation.

"I want to mention the fact that Don Waney, the leader of the criminal and murderous gang, was the mastermind of that January 1st (2018) massacre in Omoku.

"But that operation was led by Ikechukwu, the second-in- command, who is here. There is another person who I don't want to mention that also led that operation. We will not rest until we bring all of them to book,"  The Rivers State Commissioner of Police, Zaki Ahmed, said security agencies would take the battle to the hideouts of murderous cults and kidnap gangs in the state.

He said
, "I want everybody to understand that crime does not pay. You can see a typical example today that the long arm of the law will always catch up with criminals like these. They think they are above the law, but you can see what has happened to them "We are going everywhere and we are taking the battle to their hideouts. We have the profile of these criminals. We know where they are hiding; we will arrest them."

The state Director of DSS, Tosin Ajayi, was also at the 6 Division of the Nigerian Army in Port Harcourt.

Nigerian banks stop ATM cash withdrawal abroad | Mr Olumide's Blog

Posted: 08 Jan 2018 01:15 AM PST

A number of Deposit Money Banks in the country have barred their customers from using debit and credit cards to withdraw dollars, euros, pounds and other foreign currencies whenever they travel abroad, investigation by PUNCH has revealed.

The development may put business and leisure travellers, who may need hard currencies to meet some obligations abroad, in a difficult situation.

Also, students who are studying abroad and often rely on withdrawing hard currencies with their Nigerian payment cards from Automatic Teller Machines abroad to meet certain needs may find the situation challenging.

Findings by our correspondent revealed that the naira volatility of the past year made many of the Nigerian banks to get their fingers burnt and the fear of losing heavily to possible future currency volatility was making them to exercise restraint in reactivating overseas ATM withdrawal services for their customers.

How Notorious Cultist & Kidnapper, Don Waney, Was Tracked and Killed

Posted: 08 Jan 2018 12:26 AM PST

Wild jubilation erupted in Rivers State, yesterday, following military confirmation that notorious kidnapper, cultist and killer, Johnson Igwedibia, aka Don Waney, has been killed by security operatives.

The 6 Division, Nigerian Army, Port Harcourt, disclosed that a combined team of military, Department of State Services, DSS, and the Police killed Don Waney in a rented apartment, in an undisclosed community in Enugu State, alongside his second-in-command, one Ikechukwu, and one of his commanders.

The joint security force had launched a manhunt for the killer and his gang after they killed over 21 persons returning from Church services on New Year day in Omoku, Ogba/Ndoni/Egbema Local Government Area of the state.

'How we killed him'
At the 6 Army Division, where the military displayed and handed the three bodies to the Police, outgoing General Officer Commanding, 6 Division, Major General Eni-Obong Udoh, noted that Don Waney was killed in a joint operation involving the Army, Police and DSS.

Udoh said: "You can recall that in the early hours of January 1, 22 innocent people of Omoku were heartlessly murdered while returning from New Year Eve service.

"There was a presidential directive that the perpetrators of that act must be brought down. We were given a mandate to collaborate with other security agencies in the state to hunt the gang down.

"We trailed them to Enugu, where they were living in a rented apartment. They were living in Imo State before then. We collaborated with the GOC, in charge of 82 Division and raided their home.

"Don Waney was mastermind of the January 1 incident, but the attack was physically led by Ikechukwu, his Second-in-Command and there is another accomplice we will not mention now, but we will get him.

"We will not rest until we get all of them."

Earlier raids, discoveries
Earlier, in a statement by Colonel Aminu Ilyasu, Deputy Director Army Public Relations, the military recalled that "in the early hours of Monday, November 20, 2017, troops of 6 Division, acting on credible information from some patriotic members of the public, raided Don Waney's enclave in Omoku, ONELGA, Rivers State, where shocking discoveries of assorted weapons, dynamites, bags of suspected cannabis, full military camouflage uniforms, military boots, military communication radios, 10 human skulls and human bones were discovered.

"Additionally, in continuation of the operation, on Tuesday, November 21, 2017, the troops also exhumed decomposing bodies of some of his victims in his shrine, with the media present.

"Perhaps not satisfied with the numerous lives of innocent citizens he took, Don Waney masterminded the despicable New Year day mayhem in Omoku, in which he led his notorious gang of criminals to murder 23 peace-loving citizens of Omoku, who were returning from service at about 1:30a.m., on Monday January 1.

"Intense surveillance activities on him and his gang by the Department of State Services, DSS, Rivers State Command, revealed that after committing these atrocities he relocated to a neighbourhood within Enugu town in Enugu State, where he rented an apartment and started living among unsuspecting neighbours within the community."

Killed
Colonel Ilyasu continued: "From the relative safety of his hideout, Don Waney was already perfecting plans to wreak mayhem in Omoku in which he was to attack churches, schools, Army and Police locations and residences of already traumatised Omoku populace.

"Following his successful geo-location of his new Enugu hideout by the DSS, a combined team of troops of 82 Division, Nigerian Army, Enugu, and personnel of DSS Rivers State Command raided the hideout to arrest him and his other accomplices.

"Incidentally on sensing that the combined team were closing in on him, Don Waney, his Second-in-Command (Ikechukwu Adiele) and another gang member (Lucky Ode) attempted to escape through a back exit.

"But they were shot down by eagle-eyed troops. One of them died on the spot. Two others, who sustained gunshot injuries, eventually died while being evacuated for medical attention.

"The remains of Don Waney and his cohorts were brought back to Port Harcourt Rivers State by the combined team and handed over to the Rivers State Police Command for further action."

According to Vanguard, the Army condoled with families of victims killed in the January 1 attack, soliciting further cooperation in volunteering useful information to track down and arrest the remaining gang members to return peace to the area.

4 Surprising Traits of A Good Investment Opportunity

Posted: 07 Jan 2018 10:06 PM PST

In today's world, there are more and more investment opportunities opening up to potential investors. As a result, it becomes necessary for potential investors to have knowledge of some of the important traits of a good investment opportunity to help make right investments.

Jumia Travel shares 4 surprising traits of a good investment opportunity.

Company is Buying Back Shares
At first glance, you might think this is a sign of business that is not doing well but businesses that buy back their shares are many times doing so to increase the wealth of their current and longstanding shareholders, which prima facie makes this a more lucrative investment opportunity.

An Easy to Understand Business Model
Many times, the simpler a company's business model is the easier it is to run, which means the business will more likely be stable and have a good growth curve. This in the end translates into a lucrative investment opportunity because of its propensity for stable and sustainable growth and development.

Viability in the Long-Term
You should try to stay away from investing in companies that don't seem to have prospects of long term viability, this is because most money made in business investments comes from owning stocks in a company for quite a while, then leaving it alone until the value of your currency rises and reinvesting your dividends. This tends to pay off much better than rapidly buying and selling stocks in a business.

Promising Market Cap
It is a good idea to compare the market cap of the business you are looking to invest in to similarly priced businesses. This will help you determine whether or not the stocks are going to be worth what you are paying for them.

Lagos Govt. To PDP: Ambode will not be distracted by your ranting

Posted: 07 Jan 2018 10:02 PM PST

Lagos State Government at the weekend said the Akinwunmi Ambode led administration elected on the platform of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) will not be distracted by the grandstanding of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

The state's Commissioner for Home Affairs, Dr Abdul-Akeem Abdul-Lateef, while reacting to the statement made by the PDP that it will defeat the APC in the governorship election in Lagos in 2019 at the third Iju-Ishaga Health Day (IHD) held in Lagos, said the opposition party in the state is reputed for making infantile and highly jejune statements.

He said, "I want to assure Lagosians that Governor Akinwunmi Ambode will not be distracted by the statement of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). The governor will not be distracted by political Lilliputians whose current retrogression has compelled them to operate as dysfunctional silos.

"Akinwunmi Ambode is irrevocably committed to the completion of all on-going projects in the state. He has just presented before the Lagos State House of Assembly a budget size of N1.046 trillion worth the size of about nine states of the federation.

"Where does he have the time to respond to them if he has committed himself to the completion of Agege Pen cinema flyover in nine months. He has said the Oshodi world class transport interchange which comprises of pedestrian bridges, shopping malls, CCTVs which will regenerate Oshodi into becoming a world class Business District will soon be completed.

"Where does he have the time to respond to worthless statement from a failed party when he has committed himself to the completion of the Oshodi International Airport Road in 15 Months, imagine the governor that is busy looking for how to build four stadia in the four regions of the state."

The commissioner hinted that the governor said there will be one stadium in Igbogbo, Epe, Ajegunle, Badagry in addition to the one he is building in Onikan currently.

"A governor that is talking about regenerating the state, bringing people together, ensuring that Lagosians have the best in terms of having dividends of democracy.

"The projects of Ambode will campaign for him. Lagosians are the most enlightened, the most informed people who are witnesses to the unprecedented infrastructural renewal being witnessed in Lagos state."

Man jailed for marrying mother, daughter | Mr Olumide's Blog

A Pennsylvania man Christopher I. Hauptmann has been sentenced to prison after he was found guilty of marrying a 43-year-old woman and her 18-year-old daughter at the same time.

The 44-year-old Hauptmann was convicted of bigamy, forgery and unsworn falsification to authorities as he married the young lady without first divorcing her mother,Inside Edition reports.

The presiding judge therefore ordered Hauptmann to serve a term ranging from one year minus a day to two years minus a day.

Reports say Hauptmann had used the alias "Christopher Buckley" on some documents.

Ironically, the former owner of bail bonds business in Shamokin, about 70 miles north of Harrisburg, was unable to post his own bail.

But his 332 days of time already served will go toward his sentence after Shannon Deitrich, the woman Hauptmann married in 2015, testified against him.

Hauptmann married Deitrich's daughter, Kaylee Durovick, the following year without having first divorced Deitrich.

The daughter was 18 at the time of the incident.

Hauptmann is now prohibited from contacting Deitrich, but is reportedly still married to Durovick.

Kogi: Bello sacks 1,774 workers, 8 Perm Secs | Mr Olumide's Blog

Posted: 07 Jan 2018 12:01 PM PST

Kogi Government on Sunday confirmed the compulsory retirement of eight permanent secretaries, some directors and dismissal of 1, 774 others from the state civil service.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) gathered in Lokoja that the affected staff were served their letters last December.

The letters were signed by the state Head of Service, Mrs Deborah Ogunmola and the Chairman of the state Civil Service Commission, Mr Ado Shaibu.

A copy of the retirement letter addressed to one of the affected permanent secretaries indicated that the retirement was "in the interest of the public."

Some of the affected permanent secretaries told NAN that they were contemplating legal action.

However, Mrs Petra Akinti-Onyegbule, Chief Press Secretary to Governor Yahaya Bello, defended the action, saying it was part of ongoing reforms in the civil service.

According to her, the retirement affected only permanent secretaries that have served for four years and above.

"The retired permanent secretaries have been paid their consolidated benefits that accrued to them.

"Also affected are civil servants who have attained the special salary grade level 17," she said.

The governor's media aided added that directors that served for eight years and above would also be affected.

She said the exact number of directors to be affected would be based on the outcome of the recent promotion interviews conducted for them.

" In order to get the best replacement for the retired permanent secretaries, directors who had been in office for eight years and above but are yet to attain retirement age or maximum number of years in office were given the opportunity to partake in the exams to fill the position of permanent secretaries.

"The result of the examinations which held on Tuesday, December 12, 2017 and followed by interviews is yet to be out.

"Until the result is out, we will not be able to put a definite figure on the number of directors that will be affected by the compulsory retirement,'' she said.
