How To Live Intentionally For The Good of Your Future Posted: 18 Jan 2018 02:27 AM PST A couple of weeks ago, my small group leader challenged us to find a word that would serve as a cornerstone for our year, which would stimulate us to be better individuals, that would motivate us to become stronger spiritually. As we went around the room, there were some great terms being chosen – faith, honesty, wait, truth, caring, etcetera. When it came time for me to reveal mine, although it has been something I have been trying to incorporate into my life for a little while now, I felt the Spirit prodding me to proclaim "intentional" as my foundational word. With each passing year, I have strongly believed God was going to "do a work" on me. I sensed it was going to be "life-changing" in many ways. I thought I would be able to reflect back and pinpoint this moment in time where my life turned the corner or "took off." Maybe in the past this has been the "hopeful wishes" of an optimist, or the positive thoughts of an idealist, however I have truly seen glimpses of how God can work in and through my life when I approach it intentionally. After searching a number of Bible translations, I was hard-pressed to find any instance or form of the word being used, save one. Nevertheless, this philosophy can be argued as the basis of how God wants us all to live. I know your deeds, that you are neither cold nor hot. I wish you were either one or the other! So, because you are lukewarm – neither hot nor cold – I am about to spit you out of my mouth (Revelation 3:15). Many of us, me included at times, "desire" a change or "want" something different for our life, but we never take the steps to do anything about it. We just "go with the flow" and live the lukewarm existence which has plagued us for so long, and then wonder why we're still at the same place years later. We say we want a new job, but haven't bothered to search, decide what we'd like to do or even prepare a resume. We affirm we want to be in a relationship, but we don't put ourselves in a position to meet new people or deviate from our past patterns of behavior. We declare we are going to accomplish "something" this year, but don't take any steps in order to do so. Whatever it is, we have to decide to make a concerted effort to do it. No one else is going to do it for us. I'm not a huge "reality show" fanatic and don't necessarily agree with the premise or all of the actions of the contestants at times, but I do admire those that compete on The Bachelor/Bachelorette and The Biggest Loser for the sole reason that they made the effort with the intention of finding their spouse or losing weight, especially in light of the scrutiny of a national audience watching. This is in no means the solution or direction for everyone; however, it clearly illustrates how some have made an intentional step to pursue what they want for their life. I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with him, and he with me (Revelation 3:20). Although this passage is familiar to us as a scripture we are introduced to at the outset of our Christian walk, it reminds me of being at my family's home during the holidays when someone knocks on the door. Someone usually yells for someone else to "get the door" and oftentimes with it being a family member who locked themselves out, someone runs over, quickly unlocking it and runs off. This may be the mindset of how some of us deal with potential opportunities we're presented with – we ignore it, we want someone else to do the work, or expect it to happen by itself. Opportunities (and changes) come in variety of ways. Sometimes they come knocking, other times we have to go in search of, and still others we need to break a door down in order to create one. In each case we need to take the personal responsibility to intentionally pursue it. Recently, I had to relocate to a new area for a short period of time. Discovering it was only going to be for a month, I could have easily and justifiably quietly gone about my work and found plenty of things to occupy my time. However, I sensed the need to get "plugged into the community" even for a short stint. On the very first Sunday at my new location, I found a church, signed up for a men's group and joined two life groups, all the while not knowing a soul. Did I feel comfortable doing it? No. Was I confident? Not really. Was it worth it? Definitely! Within a month, I have connected with several people, offered to help in a number of areas (even beyond my stay) and grown both personally and spiritually – all the result of having a willingness to be used, making myself available, and being intentional. Life can be difficult and life can seem unfair. When I have found this to be most true is when I go about my day without a specific plan or purpose. I live "hoping," "wishing" or even (just) "praying" for something without any further involvement. I do "what is necessary," no more, no less. This is the epitome of a lukewarm life – living to get by, doing what is "expected," and producing a vanilla result. God created and fashioned us with a purpose far greater than that. No wonder why He would "spit," "spew," or "vomit" us out of his mouth (differing versions of Revelation 3:15) if we are going to live that way. The adventure in life begins when we pursue what we were individually created to do, not by following the crowd or choosing to live in a manner just to survive, but rather in a manner to thrive. Live purposefully, live deliberately, live intentionally and you can overcome anything you believe is standing in your way. [written by Cliff Young] culled from Olu famous Mr Olumide's Blog |
Woman With No Arms Who Flies Aeroplane With Her Legs Posted: 18 Jan 2018 01:27 AM PST A determined woman has made history by becoming the world's first licensed armless pilot as she can fly a plane with her legs. Ms Jessica Cox, from Tuscon, Arizona, USA, is also a former dancer and double black belt in Tai Kwon-Do. She is the world's first licensed armless pilot, as well as the first armless black-belt holder in the American Taekwondo Association. She was born in Arizona without arms due to a rare birth defect. Jessica Cox graduated from the University of Arizona in 2005 with a bachelor's degree in psychology and a minor in communications. Jessica Cox suffered a rare birth defect and was born without any arms. The psychology graduate can write, type, drive a car, brush her hair and talk on her phone simply using her feet. Cox flew in a single engine airplane for the first time via Wright Flight in 2005. Cox earned her pilot's certificate on October 10, 2008, after three years of training, and is qualified to fly a light-sport aircraft to altitudes of 10,000 feet. She received her flight training through an Able Flight scholarship and soloed under the instruction of Parrish Traweek. At the age of 10, Cox began training in taekwondo at a school in her home town of Sierra Vista. A1 14, she earned her first black belt. While in college at the University of Arizona Cox restarted her taekwondo training at an American Taekwondo Association club on campus. In an effort to help future students without the use of arms the instructors created an entire training curriculum by modifying the standard material from the ATA. "I never say, 'I can't do that'. I just say, 'I haven't worked it out yet,'" said Jessica. "Putting my hair in a pony tail and rock climbing are still on my list. Those rubber hair ties get me every time." She explained "I was born this way so I've just learned to adapt." "When I was born my parents were shocked. But they never made me feel like I was any different. "Other people always stared at me or made comments but I turned negative feelings into something positive. It's made me very driven." The only thing she was afraid of was flying. She said: "I've been terrified and fascinated of flying for as long as I can remember. "I remember at school I couldn't go on the swings or monkey bars because they were impossible for me to play on. "I used to shut my eyes and imagine myself flying over the playground like Superwoman instead." She grew up worried every time she had be an aeroplane passenger. But three years ago she was given the chance to overcome her fears. She said: "A fighter pilot, who represents the charity Wright Flight asked me if I'd like to try flying one myself. "At first I thought he was nuts. I would have been scared enough if I had arms, let alone without them. "But he kept insisting I would love it and so I started to see it as the ultimate challenge." She learned to fly in rudderless light Ercoupe aircraft, where you only need your hands to control it rather than both hands and feet. She took three years instead of the usual six months to complete her lightweight aircraft licence, had three flying instructors and practiced 89 hours of flying. She said: "The first time my instructor let me take the controls I remember being terrified but I was hooked immediately. "Most people were encouraging - but some thought I was taking a dangerous risk. I had to be very determined and persistent. "It took me three hard years to complete - but it is the most fantastic feeling in the world. Ms Cox is now training to become an instructor - so she can help other disabled people learn to fly. "But I'm evidence that you can." culled from Olu famous Mr Olumide's Blog |

N700million Found In Kidnapper Don Wanny's Bank Accounts Posted: 17 Jan 2018 11:08 AM PST A top official of the State Security Service, SSS, on Wednesday revealed that N700 million was found in the account of alleged kidnap kingpin, Don Wanny who was tracked and killed by security operatives at his hideout. He is alleged to have masterminded the killings of 23 worshipers on New Year's Day, in Omoku area of Rivers. The source told NAN on condition of anonymity on Wednesday that the operation that led to his death was successful and averted further bloodshed in the state. The operative said that Mr. Waney was under intense SSS surveillance for over a year before he was tracked and killed. "Some of the people who were killed died from stray bullets during the operation by the murderous gang. "It was easy to monitor Waney because we had our agent on a constant watch that gave us in-depth knowledge of his whereabouts and activities. "Waney had companies that he used as fronts. He used one of these companies to front for surveillance jobs and leak repairs for a major oil company. "We know where his family stayed; we know that his boys camped at a forest in Imo state from where they usually launched their operation. "Waney was always hiding in Enugu and Ogoja (Cross River). He bought a car in Imo state and took it to Enugu – as part of his plans to change his identity," the source revealed. An ash coloured Lexus ES330 salon car is currently parked at SSS premises in Port Harcourt. The source said that Mr. Waney had more than 30 active fighters and many volunteers who allegedly worked for top politicians in the state. It said that Mr. Waney's accounts at First Bank and Unity Bank had been frozen and would be forfeited to the federal government at the end of the investigation. "The banks are fully cooperating with an ongoing investigation which would unravel his financial transactions from the time the accounts where opened," the source added. The News Agency of Nigeria reported that the deceased militant leader had more than N700 million at some undisclosed banks which is currently being monitored. Mr. Waney and his second-in-command, Ikechukwu Adiele, and another suspected gang member, Lucky Ode, were killed by security forces in Enugu and their corpses paraded at 6 Division Nigerian Army Port Harcourt on January 7. Mr. Waney and his gang members received amnesty from the Rivers Government in 2016 but later reneged on the terms of the amnesty deal. culled from Olu famous Mr Olumide's Blog |
