What Does It Mean If I Don't "Hear from God?"

Posted: 01 Oct 2017 02:59 AM PDT

As believers, we are called to pray. But what happens when it feels like our prayers have fallen on deaf ears? What does it mean if we don't hear from God? And how should we respond?

In high school, I experienced my first battle with anxiety attacks. I didn't understand what was happening or why it was happening — all I knew was that I was not in control and I desperately needed God's help.

So I began to pray, no, beg, for deliverance. I remember staring at the floor of our church sanctuary as I cried out to my Savior on my knees: God I need you. I give my life to you. Please answer me. Please take all of this away.

Nothing.

Days turned into weeks. Weeks turned into months. Months turned into a full year. And still, nothing but silence.

I felt like a shipwrecked soul, sinking in a sea of confusion, sadness, anger and bitterness.

And that's when I found Psalm 13.

As one of David's shorter psalms, you might miss it if you were flipping through your Bible, but in those days, and even still today, I can't take my eyes from it. David writes:
1 How long, Lord? Will you forget me forever?
How long will you hide your face from me?
2 How long must I wrestle with my thoughts
and day after day have sorrow in my heart?
How long will my enemy triumph over me?
3 Look on me and answer, Lord my God.
Give light to my eyes, or I will sleep in death,
4 and my enemy will say, "I have overcome him,"
and my foes will rejoice when I fall.
5 But I trust in your unfailing love;
my heart rejoices in your salvation.
6 I will sing the Lord's praise,
for he has been good to me.

He Proposed 5 Days After Meeting Her and She Said Yes... and they are married

Posted: 01 Oct 2017 02:29 AM PDT

When love happens. On the the 9th of May 2016, they were complete strangers, fast forward to the 15th of May, 2016, they got engaged and on the 9th of September, 2017, they got married.

Read the interesting love story below as narrated by the bride...

"Yes, I recently married my Best friend. But much more than excitement, what I've been taught during this (what felt like an eternity of single) season is that God is INTENTIONAL about every single detail in our lives. If we're connected and in alignment with what HE is doing, we won't miss His voice when He speaks.

God brought this amazing human into my life when I wasn't even ready. I could have missed it, I almost didn't see it. It was too fast and he was too real to be true. Thankfully, when I met him, I recognised him-Spirit to Spirit.

It only took me a few hours from the airport departure lounge to the plane to decide I wanted us to be friends. In three days I knew deep in my heart, you're here to stay. After five days you decided you wanted more than friendship. Was I scared? Absolutely!

You don't meet some stranger and in five days agree to marry them but you were sure it was me you've been actively searching for. Beyond possessing every single thing on my list for a choice of a spouse, you came with extras I knew ONLY my Father could give me.

I said "if we're doing this, know that we're going to have to wait until marriage" you said "lets raise the bar, we're not going to kiss before marriage". Your response that day in Kigali was a confirmation that you just had to be him.

I'm grateful for a man like you, Seun You're truly the Father's Son. Your love for God is so evident in ALL you do. You challenged me to see the world in the way that I never did; you make me laugh and love with abandon and remind me every single day to dream bigger, to work harder, to open my heart to the possibilities of this beautiful life. I never realized that I could love anyone as much as I love you"

The Groom has this to say:
When I met you, I thought to myself "what an amazing woman". It didn't take me long to know I wanted you. But it was too soon, too fast and even though I'm normally reserved, I couldn't resist your depth and great smile. Your love for God was so evident even a blind person could feel it. I saw in you after a few days EVERYTHING I prayed for (and more).

Beyond being able to talk to you for hours and not get tired, you speak with so much wisdom. I'm glad I made the decision to pursue you immediately because when you find the right person, making a decision is never difficult. You're beautiful, selfless and your heart is so so kind. The definition of a Proverbs 31 Woman.

The Father's Daughter. I'm grateful to God for giving you to me as a wife and I'm blessed to be called your husband. I know this for sure, when God made you, He was definitely thinking about me. ….My Queen, My Light, My Woman.

I was looking for a wife. Not a fling, not a situationship, not a friend with benefit- a wife. I wasn't just looking for a beautiful face, a nice body or to be sexually enticed. The Word of God is clear " He who finds a wife, finds a good thing" I've found my own "good thing" and obtained favour from the Lord.

You, baby, didn't have to rub me on the shoulder to get my attention. I acknowledged you're a treasure, the wife I was searching for immediately I set eyes on you. I'm blessed to call you my wife.

Nothing can be greater than being given a daughter of the King.

The bride had this to say:
Dear single Christian woman, this is from my heart to yours.

"WAIT FOR GOD'S BEST FOR YOU." Get a piece of paper and search through the Bible and list qualities of a godly man. Watch and listen to sermons about Biblical manhood and what it looks like then list those out too. Look into your own life & heart.

See your shortcomings list them out and pray for a man who is strong in those areas. Think on your passions, purpose and desires for future, list and pray for a man who wants to live that type of life with you. Decide, then list your VALUES and convictions.

And adds thus:
In today's s*x-crazed and "purity is lame" culture, we're quick to celebrate the men who only take their women to exotic restaurants, buy them fancy cars, take them on expensive vacations, put it up on social media but not honour them by protecting their purity. We're quick to "hail" and repost them with hashtags like #Husbandgoals #RelationshipGoals.

As Christains, we are called to be people of purity, to honour God in the use of our bodies. However, pursuing purity is one of the hardest things Christians face in dating relationship or courtship and men who honour their women are hardly celebrated.

We all agree, it is really hard for two young, hormone-filled people who are intensely attracted to each other to keep their hands off each other. That is why celebrating men who honour their women and their God is very important.

I said all that to say this; celebrate the men who whether it makes sense to our culture or to their bodies to reserve sex for marriage or not, still honour their God and their women to wait until marriage.

Celebrate the single men who lead their women closer to God rather than their bedrooms. Celebrate the single men who are not sitting on the fence, arguing if kissing before marriage is right or wrong and looking for scriptures to justify it but simply focused on serving their God and loving their women in the way of the Lord.

If you're reading and wondering, "it's difficult, I can't do this" remember this scripture: "But He said to me, 'My grace is sufficient for you, for MY strength is made perfect in weakness." (2 Corinthians 12:9 ESV).

Be encouraged because it is possible and you can do it!

I celebrate you Seun. You're a testimony that extraordinary men do exist.

We Use Prostitutes to Get Information about Police, Victims – Armed Robber

Posted: 01 Oct 2017 01:54 AM PDT

A 27-year-old commercial bus driver based in Benue State, Monday Otupa has confessed that he took to robbery and car snatching to enable him get enough money fast, to go back to school.

Otupa and three others - Joseph Oriyan, 27, Basil Fabian 39 and Mike Onazi, 34 - were tracked and arrested by the operatives of the Inspector General of Police Intelligence Response Team (IGP IRT) for armed robbery and car snatching in different parts of Nigeria.

The IRT operatives also recovered the suspects' locally made gun that uses Ak47 ammunition among other dangerous weapons they used during their operations.

According to police sources, some of the suspects are from Benue State and they have no residential house in Lagos and Abuja. When they operate in Abuja and Lagos, they would take the snatched cars to Port Harcourt to sell. At times, they would take their stolen posh cars to Enugu or Benue State.

Among the weapons recovered from them are one Berreta pistol, one locally made pistol that uses 7.61mm ammunition.

The four-man gang has members in Lagos, Enugu, Benue and Port Harcourt. When they want to operate in Lagos they call their members in Lagos to prepare that they were coming to rob in Lagos. If they want to rob in Enugu they need not use members in other states.

They used to operate in a Commando way and each member has specific role to play. They have mechanic, rewire, painter, and a member whose role is to perfect customs papers, vehicle number plates and good receivers, the police source said.

However, the four gang members met their waterloo when they robbed a man of his Mercedes 300 at gun point and injured his wife. The matter was reported to the Inspector General of Police IGP Ibrahim Idris, who immediately ordered the operatives of IRT led by a Deputy Superintendent of Police( DSP), Phillip Rieninwa to fish out the robbers for arrest and prosecution.

First to be picked was one Mike Onazi, whose arrest led to the arrest of Monday and others. Though their gang leader Alfred Adayi is still at large, any member of the gang is an expert in car driving and can lead the gang in any of their operations.

Innocent buyers address them as car dealers without car shops, yet they claimed to be buying the cars from Cotonou and other West African countries and abroad.

One of the gang members named Joseph (Joe) had been arrested more than three times, charged to court and remanded in prison and, at times convicted, yet, he always secure freedom to join his members to rob and snatch cars.

Fabian who claimed to be a mechanic is based at Obigbo in Port Harcourt and his role is to perfect documents of any snatched car sent to him and the money from the sale of the cars are paid into his bank account.

In his confession, Monday said: "I am from Ado Local Government Area of Benue State. I became a commercial bus driver to get money to continue my education. I stopped at Senior Secondary Two (SS2) because I had no money to continue. Unfortunately, I did not get enough money from driving bus.

"In 2015, my friend, Oriyan formed an armed robbery gang and lured me into it. When they snatched one car they gave it to me but SARS operatives arrested me and I was sent to Keffi Prison by an Abuja court. When I came back from prison, Oriyan promised to give me money to back to school. I did not know that he was arranging another robbery operation.

"One morning, one Eze Nwadebelu brought two guns and later brought two more guns and we robbed in Abuja and snatched over 20 cars with the guns. We are five in number, namely Origyan; Unogu; Adayi; Mike and myself. We used to trail victims to super market, banks, clubs, ATM Gallery and even to their residential houses. Our car dealer whose role is to help dispose of our stolen cars is Alfred Adayi aka Olu Motors based in Benue. We used to sell at giveaway price. Highlander Jeep N400,000, Camry N250,000, End of Discussion N250,000. There was a Camry car, we sold N100,000 and used the money to prepare for operation."

Continuing, he said: "We used women pr*stitute to get information on how police are looking for us and the position of the victims after the operation. We used to sleep in hotels that are not well patronized and located in a remote area and at times the owners of the hotels and their staff assist us with information and private accommodation for which we pay special money.

"I spent three months in prison and prison made me to be hardened. Prince was still at large when I was sentenced to prison. I pay N3,000 daily in hotel when I was in hiding and I used to change my sim cards regularly to avoid trace from police. Sometimes I used unregistered sim and it works for me. I also monitor peoples phones for my gang."

10 Things You Should Know About Christian Meditation

Posted: 01 Oct 2017 01:29 AM PDT

The word "meditation" has developed something of a bad reputation in certain Christian circles. In this article I want to reclaim it as one of the essential spiritual disciplines for all believers.

(1) Meditation begins, but by no means ends, with thinking on Scripture.
To meditate properly our souls must reflect upon what our minds have ingested and our hearts must rejoice in what our souls have grasped. We have truly meditated when we slowly read, prayerfully imbibe and humbly rely upon what God has revealed to us in his Word. All of this, of course, in conscious dependence on the internal, energizing work of the Spirit.

(2) Meditation, then, is being attentive to God.

It is one way we "keep seeking the things above where Christ is" (Col. 3:1). It is a conscious, continuous engagement of the mind with God. This renewing of the mind (Rom. 12:1-2) is part of the process by which the word of God penetrates the soul and spirit with the light of illumination and the power of transformation.

(3) Meditation on Scripture is essential to Christian living.
Just consider a handful of texts that make this clear.

"This book of the law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success" (Joshua 1:8).
"Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the wicked, nor stands in the way of sinners, nor sits in the seat of scoffers; but his delight is in the law of the Lord, and on his law he meditates day and night" (Ps. 1:1-2).
"I have stored up your word in my heart, that I might not sin against you" (Ps. 119:11).
"I will meditate on your precepts, and fix my eyes on your ways" (Ps. 119:15).
In addition, consider numerous other exhortations and examples of meditation on God's word from Psalm 119:23, 48, 78, 97, 99, 103, 148.

(4) We should also train our souls to meditate on the glory and majesty of God as revealed in natural creation.
Jonathan Edwards describes the impact of one particular encounter with the power and wonder of creation:
"And as I walking there [in his father's pasture], and looked up on the sky and clouds; there came into my mind, a sweet sense of the glorious majesty and grace of God, that I know not how to express. . . . The appearance of everything was altered: there seemed to be, as it were, a calm, sweet cast, or appearance of divine glory, in almost everything. God's excellency, his wisdom, his purity and love, seemed to appear in everything; in the sun, moon and stars; in the clouds, and blue sky; in the grass, flowers, trees; in the water, and all nature; which used greatly to fix my mind. I often used to sit and view the moon, for a long time; and so in the day time, spent much time in viewing the clouds and sky, to behold the sweet glory of God in these things: in the mean time, singing forth with a low voice, my contemplations of the Creator and Redeemer. And scarce any thing, among all the works of nature, was so sweet to me as thunder and lightning.
Formerly, nothing had been so terrible to me. I used to be a person uncommonly terrified with thunder: and it used to strike me with terror, when I saw a thunder-storm rising. But now, on the contrary, it rejoiced me. I felt God at the first appearance of a thunder-storm. And used to take the opportunity at such times to fix myself to view the clouds, and see the lightnings play, and hear the majestic and awful voice of God's thunder: which often times was exceeding entertaining, leading me to sweet contemplations of my great and glorious God. And while I viewed, used to spend my time, as it always seemed natural to me, to sing or chant forth my meditations; to speak my thoughts in soliloquies, and speak with a singing voice" (Extractions from his Private Diary, 27-28).

(5) We should also regularly reflect and meditate on God himself and his many works.
"One thing I have asked of the Lord, that will I seek after: that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to gaze upon the beauty of the Lord and to inquire [meditate, NASB] in his temple" (Ps. 27:4).

"when I remember you upon my bed, and meditate on you in the watches of the night" (Ps. 63:6).

"I consider the days of old, the years long ago. I said, 'Let me remember my song in the night; let me meditate in my heart. Then my spirit made a diligent search. . . . I will remember the deeds of the Lord; yes, I will remember your wonders of old. I will ponder [meditate] all your work, and meditate on your mighty deeds" (Ps. 77:5-6, 11-12; see also Psalm 111:2; 119:27; 143:5; 145:5).

(6) Christian meditation must be distinguished from the sort that we find in eastern religions or more recent new age fads.
For example, unlike eastern meditation, which advocates emptying the mind, Christian meditation calls on us to fill our mind with God and his truth. Nowhere in the Bible is the "mind", per se, described as evil or unworthy of being the means by which God communicates with us. What the Bible does denounce is intellectual pride, but not the intellect itself. It is humility that we need, not ignorance. I stand opposed to arrogant and cynical intellectualism. But that is not the same thing as using the mind God has given us, with the help of the Holy Spirit and the instruction of Scripture, to evaluate and discern and critically assess what is happening in both the church and the world.
Thus, unlike eastern meditation, which advocates mental passivity, Christian meditation calls on us to actively exert our mental energy. This is nowhere better stated than by Paul in Philippians 4:8. Here he encourages us to "let our minds dwell on" whatever is "true," "honorable," "right," "pure," "lovely," and of "good repute." Those things that are "excellent" and "worthy of praise" are to be the targets of our mental aim. It isn't enough merely to acknowledge that things and ideas of moral and mental excellence are important. Merely affirming such truths and virtues will avail little in a time of testing. We must energetically reckon, take into account, and give deliberative weight to these things. Our minds must be captivated by them in such a way that the tawdry, sleazy, fictitious, and fanciful fluff of the world loses its appeal.
Unlike eastern meditation, which advocates detachment from the world, Christian meditation calls for attachment to God. If the believer disengages from the distractions and allurements of the world, it is in order that he/she might engage with the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Unlike eastern meditation, which advocates visualization in order to create one's own reality, Christian meditation calls for visualization of the reality already created by God. Unlike eastern meditation, which advocates metaphysical union with 'god', Christian meditation calls for spiritual communion with God. Unlike eastern meditation, which advocates an inner journey to find the center of one's being, Christian meditation calls for an outward focus on the objective revelation of God in Scripture and creation. Unlike eastern meditation, which advocates mystical transport as the goal of one's efforts, Christian meditation calls for moral transformation as the goal of one's efforts.

(7) So how should the Christian go about developing the discipline of meditation?
The first step is to rehearse in one's mind the presence of God. Perhaps reading and reflecting on Psalm 139:1-10will help. Focus your attention on the inescapable presence, the intimate nearness of God. Issues of posture, time, and place are secondary, but not unimportant. The only rule would be: do whatever is most conducive to concentration. If a posture is uncomfortable, change it. If a particular time of day or night is inconvenient, change it. If the place you have chosen exposes you to repeated interruptions and distractions, move it. I enjoy watching football on TV as much as the next guy, but trying to engage with God's Word during the huddle is hardly an effective way to experience its power!

(8) The second step is to peruse.
By this I mean read, repeat the reading, write it out, then re-write it. We must keep in mind the difference between informative reading of the Scriptures and formative reading. The former focuses on the gathering of information, the increase of knowledge, the collection and memorization of data. The purpose of the latter is to be formed or shaped by the text, through the work of the Holy Spirit. With informative reading, I am in control of the text. With formative reading, the text controls me.

(9) It also helps to apply your imagination and senses to the truth of the text.
Envision yourself personally engaged in the relationship or encounter or experience of which the text speaks. Hear the words as they are spoken. Feel the touch of Jesus on a diseased body. Taste and smell the fish and bread as they are served to the multitudes. See the truths that God has revealed by mentally recreating the scene with yourself present. There is nothing magical or mysterious in this. The purpose of the imagination is not, as some have argued, to create our own reality. Our imagination is a function of our minds whereby we experience more intimately and powerfully the reality God has created. As you are doing so, reflect on the truth of the Word; brood over the truth of the text; absorb it, soak in it, as you turn it over and over in your mind.

(10) The final steps can be summarized in four words: pray, personalize, praise, and practice.
It is difficult to know when meditation moves into prayer. It isn't really that important. But at some point, take the truth as the Holy Spirit has illumined it and pray it back to God, whether in petition, thanksgiving, or intercession. In other words, take Scripture and turn it into dialogue with God.

Where possible, and according to sound principles of biblical interpretation, replace proper names and personal pronouns with your own name. God never intended for his Word to float aimlessly in impersonal abstractions. He designed it for you and for me.

Then worship the Lord for who he is and what he has done and how it has been revealed in Scripture. Meditation ought always to lead us into adoration and celebration of God.

Finally, practice. Commit yourself to doing what the Word commands. The aim of meditation is moral transformation. The aim of contemplation is obedience. And in obedience is joy inexpressible and full of glory.

My son loved his baby mama, he wanted to marry her-Mother of murdered Caleb undergraduate | Mr Olumide's Blog

Posted: 01 Oct 2017 12:56 AM PDT

The mother of murdered Caleb university undergraduate has opened upon the relationship between her late son and his baby mama.Queen Akinbule, a businesswoman and mother of eight revealed Morrison was her third son and sixth child.

She also said the 20 year old was going to marry his babymama, equally 20.Read excerpts from her interview with Punch

For how long have you known your late son's baby mama?

I knew her last year after I found out she was pregnant for my son. My grandson is now a year and six months.

Did you approve of their relationship?

I accepted her after I found out she was pregnant. In fact, I took her as my child. When I learned that she needed some money to pay for the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination, I willingly gave her money. Prior to that, I learned she was at home for almost three years. I also enrolled her at a special tutorial centre. I paid N35, 000 for that. I was happy when I heard she passed the UTME as her cut-off mark was 260. She finally gained admission to the University of Lagos to study Theatre Arts.

How would you describe their relationship?

Their relationship was going smoothly prior to his death. My son loved her very much. He had plans to marry her.

What could have made her kill your son?

I don't know what would have made her kill my son.

Does she live in your house?

No, she only comes over to my house whenever my son is on holiday.

Tell us all that transpired on the day your son died.

I was at home while my son was in his room. She sneaked into our house that night. I didn't know she was in my house. I was asleep. It happened at night around 10 pm.

One of my grandsons went to Morrison's room to watch a movie. When he got there, he met Morrison on the ground. He tapped him several times but he didn't move. He then called one of his aunts who also tapped Morrison but he didn't wake up. Immediately, she rushed into my room and told me Morrison was lying on the ground.

When I got there, I met him on the ground. His head was on the bed while the rest of his body was on the ground. His baby mama was seated on a bed staring at us. I carried his lifeless body and began to beat his body but he didn't move. I bit a part of his body with my teeth but he still didn't move. As I lifted him, I saw a cloth tied round his neck. As we were about to lift him to rush him to a hospital, his baby mama then shouted, 'Morrison! Morrison!'

How was her expression while you were trying to wake him?

She wasn't crying. She wore expressionless face.

Have you met her parents before?

Yes, they also stay at Gbagada.

Reports indicated that your son had a fight with his baby mama some minutes before she killed him.

They didn't have a fight. I was at home, I didn't hear any noise. If they had a fight, we all would have heard. There is a room and parlour opposite Morrison's room. One of us would have heard a noise

If you were to speak to your son's baby mama face-to-face, what would you tell her?

I will tell her that God will judge her for her action. I know that my son really loved her.

How did her parents react to their child's act?

In fact, as I speak, her parents have not come to see me. The only time her father called me on the phone was when she was taken to Panti. He begged me to forgive his daughter. Since then, he hasn't called again.

Nnamdi Kanu is in London, he went through Malaysia — Orji Kalu | Mr Olumide's Blog

Posted: 01 Oct 2017 12:56 AM PDT

Following different accusations that Biafran leader, Nnamdi Kanu was taken away and probably killed by the Nigerian army, businessman and prominent politician, Orji Uzor Kalu, reveals the IPOB leader is in London.Speaking to Punch, he said

Kanu was not taken away by the military. Kanu went to Malaysia from where he travelled to the United Kingdom. Nnamdi Kanu is in London right now as we speak. He was not arrested by anybody. He left the country on his own. One of his relations has spoken to me and explained everything because I wanted to see him and talk to him wherever he was and see how I could meet some Federal Government officials on his issue. I also wanted to see ways of talking to the President about him, and find common ground but his family told me that he has left the country, unless they are lying to me.
I believe, whether he had left the country or not, he is not with the military because I asked the Commander of the 14 Brigade, Brig.-Gen. A.K Ibrahim, who is a very fine and good soldier, well educated and dedicated, and he told me that they don't know his whereabouts and I am sure, the Department of State Services have the same information. I also visited the commissioner of police and he said he didn't know his whereabouts and that they are also looking for him.
On the whereabouts of his parents, Kalu said

I don't know. I visited them in December last year and I was not impressed with the discussion I had with the father and the mother because I expected them to have acted better. Since then, I have not visited them. I feel that they have not impressed me because they ignored my advice to them to talk to their son on the need to stay at home and avoid public outings. I said his people can continue to carry their flags around but that they should not disturb anybody again. They have a right to express themselves but that such rights should be within the limits of our constitution.
They have the right to carry Biafran flags but they should do so within the limits of the constitution. Once your activities are within the limits of the law, you are in order. You cannot carry Biafra flags and be stopping vehicles and smashing their windscreens. You cannot carry Biafra (flags) and be raping young girls, you also cannot carry Biafra (flags) and be assembling young men every day.
These are people who have no job and after doing that, they will go and engage in kidnapping or they will go and do armed robbery while some will go and do other things to make money. Hunger is a very terrible thing. The traders in the market have warned them to stop the nonsense they are doing. Why should you be extorting money from people in the name of Biafra agitation? They are extorting money from people in the market against their will. If the federal and state governments continue to watch and allow all these things to continue, there will be chaos in the state. If Kanu had not proved stubborn but listened to advice and kept to the rules of the court, we won't be where we are now.

A junior steward, Peter Udoh who allegedly drugged and robbed former finance minister, Dr. Kalu Idika Kalu has been declared wanted and the police are on his trail.
The incident occurred late August at the former minister's Lagos residence in Ikoyi. The suspect, a native of Ogoja in Cross River State, was working as a steward in the Kalu's household at the time of the incident.

According to family source, the suspect laced the septuagenarian former minister's coffee with an unknown substance that made him fall deeply asleep immediately after drinking it.

He invited accomplices who were already on standby to ransack the house for items they considered valuable. Some of the items they stole included, money, wrist watches, jewelry, mobile phones, laptops, an iPad and documents.

According to PM Express, some of the stolen items had been recovered from a shop in Iyana Ipaja area of Lagos. Spokesman for the police in Lagos, ASP Olarinde Famous-Cole, could however not confirm the number of suspects in custody over the incident.

The former minister reportedly traveled to the United States immediately after the incident.

Ways To Make Guests Feel Welcome In Your Church

Posted: 01 Oct 2017 12:29 AM PDT

While I was in college, a local church offered me a hospitality internship. My goal was to attract new guests, create a welcoming environment, and develop a process that ultimately leads guests into membership.

Easy, I thought. I'm studying hospitality management and marketing…how hard could this be?

Sweet, naïve Lindsey.

My confidence was quickly shaken as I realized how hard it is to change an entire church culture.
I struggled for an entire semester, pushing and pulling and fighting against antiquated ideas of hospitality.

But I can assure you that creating a welcoming church is a challenge that is well worth the effort. Making a positive first impression encourages guests to return next week. The more second and third-time guests, the more likely your church is to see long-lasting growth.

To save you from enduring some of the pain I've experienced, I present my top ways to make church guests feel more welcome:

Be Authentic

There's nothing more welcoming than authenticity. People crave genuineness, especially while church hunting. So, when you cultivate a church environment that lets people express their doubts, their fears, and their mistakes, you're giving them the freedom to be themselves! They can sit back, relax, and really take in their experience.

By creating this authentic environment, you'll automatically start attracting people who are meant to be a part of your congregation—people who feel like they belong in your church culture—and I guarantee your church will greatly benefit from their time and talents.

On the other hand, if your church is relentlessly striving to project an image of perfection, you're going to unintentionally create surface-level relationships. That's a huge turn-off for most church hunters! So do your best to be true to who you are - mistakes, fears, and doubts included!

Have a Joyful Greeter
This may seem old-fashioned, but having a greeter at each door is an easy way to welcome guests. It immediately gives visitors a personal connection with a member of your church. Even if they go the rest of the service without speaking with anyone else, they'll remember the pleasant interaction with your greeter.

Having greeters also benefits your church! With welcoming volunteers in place, you'll have a low-pressure, one-on-one touch point with guests every single week. That's invaluable to building relationships!

But don't just let anyone man the doors. Seek out church members who love meeting new people, are exceptionally joyful, and have a strong knowledge base of your church mission and programs. These are the greeters that help make a lasting impression and keep guests coming back for more.

Create Community
So many churches aim to create an experience: people come in, grab a cup of fancy coffee, watch cinematic-quality video announcements, worship to a light-show and fog, hear a preacher talk to hundreds or thousands of people, and then walk out the door without acknowledging anyone else.

Now, don't misunderstand me; I believe God is working through the worship and the message.

The only problem is that these movie theater-type experiences don't welcome guests. I mean, when was the last time you left the movie theater feeling like you really connected with someone new?

So instead of focusing on crafting the perfect experience, shift your focus to creating a community within your church and let the experience flow from that. It will be far more inviting to your guests if they know that they're walking into a community, not a show.

Pay Attention to the Small Details
When making your church more welcoming, one of the biggest things you can do is pay attention to the small things.

Offer free tea and coffee, ensure that your seats are comfortable, and always spring for the nicer toilet paper.

While it seems silly that something as simple as quilted TP makes a noticeable difference, keep in mind that we serve a big God who cares enough to count the number of hairs on our head. Your church is lavishing people in a way that exemplifies God's character. Who doesn't feel appreciated when someone goes out of their way to bless us?

When you're putting your best foot forward, even in the tiniest ways, it communicates to your guests how deeply your hospitality runs.

Signs, Signs, Signs!
Do you know what the best part of great signage is? It's the way in which you give your guests the opportunity to be self-sufficient.

Long gone are the days of guests wandering around the church building, wide-eyed and timid as they try to find their way. Clear and well-placed signs are here to save the day!

Bathrooms? Check! Children's Ministry drop off? Check! Coffee and donuts? Check and check!

You've empowered your visitors to make it through an entire church service on their own. If they want someone to know they're a guest, they can simply follow the signs to the welcome table! Guests who want to lay low and soak in the true community of your church without everyone knowing they're new are given the opportunity to do so.

Think About Your Service Through Your Guests' Eyes
There are many things in a church service that are routine for members, but completely foreign to guests. Keep in mind, not everyone comes from the same church background (if they even come from a church background at all).

Let's take the most common example: communion. In some churches, people come forward to receive the Eucharist, while other churches pass around the elements. Some churches only allow members to take communion, while others are open to all believers.

While this is just one example, there are many other aspects of a service that need to be explained to guests.

Does everyone stand at a certain point? Is there a unified response from the congregation? Do you all read the scripture aloud together? These are things that guests won't automatically know.

The fix? Simply explain in the program or provide a brief explanation before beginning any potentially unclear activity.

Cultivate a Happy Congregation
Have you ever gone to a friend's house for a dinner that turned out to be incredibly tense? No one was mentioning it, but it was completely obvious that they had gotten into a family fight right before you rang the doorbell. Awkward!

It's not too different if there's an underlying problem with gossip or discontentment in your church, even if no one is talking about it. Your visitors will feel the same tense feeling.

Now think about the best dinner party you've ever attended. You walked through the door and immediately felt like a member of the family. It was warm and welcoming

Your church can create that joyful atmosphere by simply having happy members. No, every single member won't be happy and it's in no way church leaders' responsibility to people-please. But pastors can help set the tone by leading with an example of thankfulness and gratitude.

Have a Pastor Acknowledge Guests
"Oh! Our church does this really well. We make our guests wear name tags and ribbons and we make them stand up during the service so we can all clap for them!"

No, no, no!

The goal is to let guests know that they're welcome at your church, not to gawk at them in front of the congregation.

Ideally, the pastor will see a new person and make an introduction; in fact, this is how I found my first church home in Colorado. The associate pastor came over and introduced himself on my first visit, and I immediately felt a sense of belonging.

While this is great, it's not always realistic depending on congregation size and pastor availability. But the pastor should at least take a moment during the announcements to welcome guests and point out where more information is available.

(Graphic)Model turns her labia into a necklace after they were cut off in 'designer vagina' surgery | Mr Olumide's Blog

Posted: 01 Oct 2017 12:26 AM PDT

Tracy, a former glamour model and single mum-of-two, has made a necklace from her labia which was cut off during designer vagina surgery.

Tracy revealed she has suffered with pain and tenderness her whole life from her protruding labia. She wrote

"As a result I'd missed out on so many hobbies and interests that I love and had to be mindful with tight clothing, exercise and intercourse because of the discomfort it caused simply because I didn't know anything could be done about it – I thought all women were just as tender as I," she writes in her blog .
According to Daily Mirror, after realising something could be done Tracy turned to surgery in December 2016, had her labia removed and changed her whole life. For a while, Tracy kept her labia "floating in a jar" on her kitchen dresser, but they didn't 'keep' as well as she had hoped.

I know that keeping body parts may not be to everybody's taste," Tracy explains. However with time the cut off tissue has discoloured from pink to a pale grey, crinkled up in the surgical fluid and turned curly which has made them less of a trophy and more of a Halloween accessory so I've been looking into ways to more effectively preserve them longterm."

Tracy set about 'drying out' her labia on a makeshift washing line using Christmas card pegs, an ice cream box and cotton string. She applied several coats of textured, pearl-finish paint - red, to match her bold nails and lipstick - dried them with a hairdryer and then dusted them off with glitter.
Tracy then set the labia into resin using an oval-shaped mould and, voila, she had a necklace pendant ready.

The model and blogger shared her story to raise awareness about circumcision, in the hope that no other women suffer for so long the way she did.

(Photos)Naked Nigerian kidnap victim makes narrow escape in London | Mr Olumide's Blog

Posted: 01 Oct 2017 12:26 AM PDT

A naked kidnap victim made a narrow escape  out of the trunk of a car in Scotland.

A local gang was holding him captive as they drove through the streets of Edinburgh.
Emmanuel Chidubem Emmanuel publicly struggled with the kidnappers as they tried to force him back into the BMW's trunk.

The Nigerian-born captive had brought the car to a halt by pulling its fuses while he was locked in the boot, and the mechanic's captors then fled as a passer-by raised the alarm.

The four-man gang were found guilty of assault and abduction yesterday after a trial at the High Court in Edinburgh.
Emmanuel's ordeal had begun when they seized him from an address in the city earlier on February 10.

The kidnappers blindfolded and trussed him up at a house in the Gilmerton area, and accessed his online bank account to take cash.

He was punched and kicked, hit with a blunt weapon and had his clothing cut before he was stripped and stuffed in the boot.

But after failing to kick his way out, he opened a fuse panel inside the boot and ripped out fuses, disabling the car.

Emmanuel in court
Social worker Julie Arbuckle, 47, who was among the witnesses, told the trial:

"They were all kicking and punching him and trying to get him into the car.
"At one point the naked guy, they had got him in the car, but he got out the other door."He looked quite injured. His whole face was swollen."

Hooman Sojoodi, 22, Sanchez Facey, 23, Glen Elamo, 20, and Arnold Mukueto, 22, will be sentenced next month for the abduction. All four were remanded in custody.

Emmanuel, 27, from Stevenage, Hertfordshire, told the jury he had been visiting Edinburgh on the latest of a number of trips when the gang struck.

He said he'd been trussed around the hands, legs and body and a bed sheet wrapped over him and taped down.

Emmanuel told the jury: "They wanted a transfer of funds."

He said he had an iPad with him and bank cards and about £1200 was taken from a business account. He denied owing the men any money.

Hugh Hefner leaves wife Crystal Harris a $7million pad plus $5million | Mr Olumide's Blog

Posted: 30 Sep 2017 11:32 PM PDT

Despite claims that she would receive nothing from his fortune, Hugh Hefner's widow, Crystal Harris, 31, will keep a stunning home worth $7 million and a $5 million lump sum, it has emerged.

A prenup blocked Harris from receiving a penny of the 91-year-old's $43 million fortune on his death. Instead, it was divided between his four children, the University of Southern California and a list of charities.
But that same prenup in fact promised Harris a substantial package of money, as well as the four-bedroom Hollywood Hills house that Hefner bought her in 2013, TMZ reported.

Hefner bought the 5,900-square-foot home for $4,995,000 and placed the deed in a trust for Harris in 2012, the year before they married.

At his peak, Hefner was worth upwards of $200million, but as the magazine's popularity tanked, he lost millions.
He was worth an estimated $43 million in 2009 - a figure that did not include his Playboy Mansion, which he sold in June for $100 million; half its asking price.

By the time of his death, he held 35 per cent of the Playboy brand and still completely owned the magazine. He had $36million worth of stocks and bonds and $6million in a joint account with an unnamed person.
His monthly earnings from the magazine only totaled $100,000, with the rest coming from his pension.

The rest of his estate has been divided between his children: Marston and now-Penthouse-boss Cooper, who were born to second wife Kimberley Conrad; and Christie and David, whom he had with first wife Mildred Williams.
