Lagos Policemen Collect N50k for Bail from Lady, Touch Her Sister's Privates Posted: 04 Sep 2017 04:21 AM PDT Policemen attached to the Anti-Kidnapping and Anti-Cultism Squad of state Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department, Lagos Police Command, have been accused of collecting N50,000 before granting bail to one Blessing Taiwo, who was arrested for alleged theft. Although the suspect was released on Saturday after the money was paid, the police allegedly seized her mobile phone pending when she would pay a balance of N20,000. According to Punch, the suspect's sister, Florence Taiwo, who always took food to her in the cell, was allegedly molested by the policemen who touched her bre*sts and dipped hands into her private parts before allowing her to take the food into the cell. Blessing, a mother of two, had been arrested on Monday after her boss, Mrs. Abiola Osagie, accused her of stealing $50,000 while the latter was away on a trip. Mr.s Osagie had alerted policemen from the Ikoyi division, who transferred the matter to the SCIID, Yaba, for further investigation. Although the case bordered on alleged theft, it was transferred to the Anti-Kidnapping and Anti-Cultism Squad on Hogan Bassey Crescent, Surulere, where the victim was allegedly locked up in the same cell with a suspect who had a mental problem. After spending three days in the cell and the intervention of the Office of the Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer and an Assistant Commissioner of Police, the suspect was released on bail. However, a demand of N2m was allegedly made, which was negotiated to N70,000. "After we paid them N50,000, the police didn't release her (Blessing) phone. They said we should bring the remaining on Tuesday when her phone would be released," a family member revealed. On how the matter started, Blessing said she had been working as office administrator and assistant to Osagie for the past eight years in an international investment and equity firm, AfricInvest. AfricInvest is in eight countries of the world, but the Nigerian office in Ikoyi, Lagos, is under the leadership of Osagie, who is the Managing Director. Blessing said, "The office cleaner was sacked more than a year ago and since then, a new cleaner had not been employed. I have been the one cleaning the office; washing the toilet and doing other menial duties. "During the quarterly appraisal, I raised issues about the general cleaning of the office and suggested we get somebody to do it. After she travelled, I asked her driver to do the job for a fee of N10,000. I decided to give the job to him to save cost. "However, on the last day of the cleaning, I observed the man messed up the chemical for the cleaning of the floor and I got a man to assist with the clean up. "She returned from her trip on Thursday, and by Friday, she came to the office. I gave her feedback about the cleaning. I told her I invited four people from outside to do the job. I didn't tell her that her driver did the job because if she knew, she would have asked why I paid him any money." Blessing, an Ogun State indigene, said Osagie did not raise any issues after they both left the office at 6pm on the Friday and also at the end of work the following Monday. Blessing said she, however, received a call by 8.30pm on Monday, as Osagie asked her to get to work early on Tuesday over an issue. "When I got there, she said I should get a ladder and climb to a particular cabinet. I thought she wanted me to bring down some files. "However, I found a black bag and she asked me to bring it down. She said she left $50,000 in the bag, among other currencies, and I told her that nobody took anything from the place because I was careful," she added. Policemen from the Ikoyi division were said to have been invited to the firm, who interrogated the suspect. Blessing, 43, said she informed the police that the driver and another man were involved in the cleaning and she supervised them. The driver, however, reportedly told the police that the bag in question had been taken home by Osagie on Monday. He allegedly said he noticed that the bag was heavy, adding that he did not know the content. A security man on the premises, who was also interviewed, allegedly told operatives that Osagie was seen returning to the office alone late on the same night with the bag. According to Punch, operatives searched the home of Blessing and checked her bank account balance without finding any money. The Divisional Police Officer allegedly said there was no evidence linking Blessing with the incident, but the complainant allegedly insisted that she was culpable. The matter was subsequently transferred to the SCIID, Yaba, from where it was referred to the Anti-Kidnapping and Anti-Cultism Squad headed by CSP Akinade Adejobi. The suspect's sister, Folake, said, "The police at Ikoyi told her that they didn't find any evidence of stealing. But she (Osagie) insisted that my sister took the money. "The case was transferred to the SCIID, Yaba, on Wednesday, from where it was referred to Hogan Bassey Crescent. My sister was detained that night and we were asked to return the following day. "During the interrogation, the driver, who agreed to cleaning the office and collecting N10,000 said he assisted the woman to carry the bag into the car the night preceding when she declared the money missing. She didn't deny it. "The other cleaner said he didn't spend more than 20 minutes on the premises and he assisted in mixing the chemical. When it was my sister's turn to talk, she (Osagie) asked her to keep quiet and she should only respond to questioning." She said after the intervention of the Lagos police PRO and the ACP, Adejobi agreed to give the suspect bail. Another member of the family, Florence, said she had yet to recover from the harassment she suffered at the police formation while taking food to Blessing in the cell. She also alleged that her sister was subjected to inhuman treatment. She said, "The stench in that station was horrible and I later realised that it came from my sister's cell, where a mentally deranged woman was being held for alleged ritual dealings. "I personally went through hell. Any time I was going to give her food, they would collect a bribe of N1,000 to allow me in. "When I get in, the policemen will start touching my body, including putting hands in my private parts. "There is a particular one that has been harassing me with calls and asking me to date him. The policemen there are not normal; they wear earrings in their tongues, ears and nostrils." Call for justice A petition was sighted on the case by the Network on Police Reform in Nigeria, calling on the new Commissioner of Police in the state, Edgal Imohimi, to investigate the matter. The petition, dated September 1, which was signed by the group's National Coordinator, Okechukwu Nwanguma, wondered why the case was transferred to the Anti-Kidnapping and Anti-Cultism Squad, lamenting the role played by Adejobi, as he initially refused administrative bail to the suspect. The group said not only did Adejobi detain Blessing for three days, which violated her rights, he also collected N50,000 for bail as against the police ethos of 'bail is free'. It said, "In the first place, a case of stealing ought not to be taken to or investigated by the Anti-Kidnapping Unit… And the OC decided to do the complainant's illegal biddings, which the DPO at Ikoyi professionally refused to do. "NOPRIN is shocked at the impunity with which the OC Anti-Kidnapping assumed the role of investigator, prosecutor and executioner. He has shown obvious interest and bias in this case. The conduct of the OC manifests notoriety for corruption and abuse of police power. He is also a bad influence on other officers under him. "Police officers who sexually abuse female detainees or women who come in contact with them should not be allowed to remain in the police force. It is an egregious abuse that should be treated with great seriousness." The group called for investigations into the incident and alleged acts of misconduct and infractions of the law by the OC and some officers under him. The Lagos police spokesperson, Olarinde Famous-Cole, said the allegations had also been trending on the social media, saying the command would investigate them. In a statement on Sunday, he said the Investigating Police Officer, Sergeant Kudeinbu Sheu, had been arrested and was being interrogated at the X-Squad. He said, "The command wants to reassure members of the public that proper investigation will be carried out and the command will like to encourage the suspect, Blessing Taiwo, to come forward with relevant information to aid the police in the ongoing investigation." culled from Olu famous Mr Olumide's Blog |
How True? NNPC Crashes Prices Of Petrol & Cooking Gas Posted: 04 Sep 2017 03:51 AM PDT Some oil marketers, especially those dealing in petrol, are said to have dismissed these claims. The NNPC has said that its sustained, strategic intervention in supply and distribution of petroleum products, has led to significant price fall of products nationwide. A statement by Mr Ndu Ughamadu, the Group General Manager, Group Public Affairs Division in Abuja, noted that the fall was in the prices of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), also known as petrol, and Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG), also known as cooking gas. Ughamadu stated that in the last few weeks, the price of petrol fell steadily from N145 per litre to between N142 and N143 per litre in some filling stations across the country. He said a recent survey by NNPC Oil and Gas forum showed that NNPC mega and affiliate stations across the country, sold PMS for N143 per litre, while some major and independent marketers in Lagos, Abuja, Sokoto, Enugu, Delta sold between N142 and N145 per litre. He added that an independent marketer in Mosimi, Emeka Ikechukwu, said the going ex-depot prices of PMS dropped from N138 to N133.28 per litre in NNPC depots and between N130 and N131 per litre in private depots. He, however, said prices remained constant in Aba and Umuahia in Abia and Calabar in Cross River, where most independent fuel stations and major marketers were selling the product at N145 per litre. Ughamadu said the survey showed a similar trend of drop in price for cooking gas with the average price for refilling a 5kg cylinder at N2,215.96 from the former price of N2,500. He said states with the lowest average price for the 5kg LPG refill were Kaduna and Niger at N2,000; Kogi at N2,005 and Oyo at N2,033.33. "At the NNPC Mega and retail stations nationwide, a 12.5kg of cooking gas that was sold for N4,500 few months ago is now sold for N3,800, while other retail outlets sell the same quantity for N4,000. Meanwhile, a check around Abuja by NAN showed that though most filling stations retained the old price of N145 per liter, but the A.Y.M Shafa filling stations in Apo, Airport road and Kubwa expressway and Lumia Petrol sell the product at N141 per litre. culled from Olu famous Mr Olumide's Blog |

Patience Jonathan Recovers N2bn Hotel Seized By EFCC? Posted: 04 Sep 2017 03:21 AM PDT Patience, the wife of former President Goodluck Jonathan, has recovered her N2bn hotel which was sealed off by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). In June, the EFCC placed the red inscriptions, 'EFCC Under Investigation' all over the hotel which is located near Setraco Construction Company, off the Mabushi Kado Expressway, Abuja. But a recent visit to the five-storey building shows that the EFCC inscriptions had been covered. When Punch correspondent knocked on the gate, three men who attended to him said they acted on the instruction of Mrs. Jonathan. When asked if they had the right to enter the building, one of them said, "Go and ask the EFCC if they had the right to put their sign all over the building in the first place. If you want more information, go and ask madam." The spokesman for the EFCC, Mr. Wilson Uwujaren, said he did not know much about the seizure of the building and thus could not say if it had been returned to Patience or not. He said, "I have spoken to the appropriate people but I was not able to get any answer on the matter." A source at EFCC said it's wrong of Patience to have erased the EFCC inscription from the building. He said, "Sometimes when we are investigating some politically exposed persons, they immediately begin to sell off their buildings in order to cover their tracks and run away with the cash so that is why we put EFCC signs on the buildings so that innocent people will not buy those buildings. "As it is, she has removed the inscriptions and can quickly sell it off." Although the hotel has not been officially valued by the EFCC, estate agents within the community said that the property should be worth about N2bn. The property, which has not yet been officially opened, has between 50 and 100 rooms, a gym, a fountain and other amenities. In his reaction, Mrs. Jonathan's lawyer, Ifedayo Adedipe (SAN), said he was not aware of the seizure of the property. Adedipe said if the hotel in question was indeed seized through a court order, then the removal of the EFCC inscriptions would be of no effect. He, however, boasted that all properties and funds seized from the former first lady would be returned to her soon. culled from Olu famous Mr Olumide's Blog |

So Sad! Man Beaten to Death by Soldiers on Father's Order over Choice of Wife Posted: 04 Sep 2017 01:51 AM PDT This is something else. Uniformed men said to be men of the Nigerian Army have reportedly beaten to death a young man in Awka, Anambra State on the order of his father. It was gathered that the man, identified as Chibuzor, who is the only son, had an altercation with his father after he brought home the lady of his choice he wanted to marry. According to Thisday, the father had refused the choice of wife brought home by his son, insisting that the lady was older than his son. A source said the deceased had earlier married with a child, but decided to remarry after separation from the first wife, but was however disappointed when the father refused to give his approval to the marriage. "As the rift between the man and his father escalated, the father invited men in uniform, which resulted to the annoyance of the son who poured hot water on his father," the source added. According to the source, the action of the deceased resulted in his being beaten up by the uniformed men, and was rushed to the hospital when he collapsed, but later died. Meanwhile, tension rose at the weekend in Umuayom village Awka, following the death of the young man as youths of the community went on rampage, making bonfire in protest of his death. Confirming the incident, the State Police Public Relations Officer, Princess Nkeiruka Nwode, said the command had quickly deployed men to the scene, adding that the proposed wife of the deceased has also been rescued from the area. culled from Olu famous Mr Olumide's Blog |
Are You Willing To Take A Risk? Here's What To Do First Posted: 04 Sep 2017 01:51 AM PDT Risks are a part of life you can't avoid, especially if you want to be successful. As a result, you have to learn the secrets of taking risks that will help you yield the best results. Jumia Travel shares 9 of these secrets to help you learn to take risks the right way. Weigh the Risks and Benefits Before taking risks, you have to ask yourself if the risk is worthwhile. You should consider and understand how much a risk taking ventures involves and its potential benefits. Always compare the possible consequences to the possible benefits of the risk to determine if the risk is worthwhile to you. Be Realistic About What Could Go Wrong You should remember that it is possible for your risk not to pay off and you should thus put the consequences in perspective. You should be sure you can deal with these consequences before moving forward with the risk. Never Put Everything on the Line This might seem counter-productive, but taking risks does not translate into recklessness. You have to be smart about it. Avoid over stretching yourself in the name of taking risks, and avoid putting all your time or cash into one venture, the odds of ruin are just too high. Always have a 'safety net' and a plan B for if the risk fails. Always Have a Plan B and Even C This can sincerely not be over-emphasized. You should always prepare for and think of a way out of or a way to deal with any negative consequence of your risks. Please do not take risks that end up leaving you trapped in unhealthy or inhumane situations. Always plan a way out or a way to deal with the consequences before-hand. It doesn't have to be something so elaborate; it can be as simple as thinking of and having someone to go to if things go south. Think For Yourself You are the one taking the risk, it is therefore only appropriate that you learn to think for yourself and use your common sense to reach a conclusion before moving forward. You can listen to others advice and opinions or contributions, but ultimately the decision to take the risk should be yours and should be based on your judgement and assessment of all circumstances involved. If you feel you can't trust your own judgement, seek the face of someone whose judgement you trust. Take One Risk at Time This goes without saying. You can go 'big' but don't go 'overboard'; this should be your rule for taking risks. Taking more than one risk at time is like being a woman who decides to wear bold makeup with bold jewelry, sky-high heels and a sequined shinny dress all at once. You're going overboard and like the woman, you're more likely to fail in risk taking. Know Your Limits Before taking risks, you should adhere to some personal guidelines. You should understand how much you are willing to tolerate and what will cause you to stop or back out completely from the venture. Adhering to safety standards that are comfortable for you, is what will keep you 'alive' during the 'dangerous' and 'uncertain' periods of your risk taking venture. Remember that Risk Taking is Relative Everyone has different tolerance to risk taking; you should therefore never compare your risk taking tolerance to that of another person. You can push yourself beyond your comfort zone, but never do so beyond what you can handle if things go wrong. Be Positive Once you've judged a risk as worthwhile, have planned a reasonable way to go about the risk taking venture and have prepared the appropriate safety net, try to be positive and picture everything going well. Positive thinking will help you build the confidence you need to go through the risk. culled from Olu famous Mr Olumide's Blog |
