This he did with a bread.The incident happened bat the Iyana Ipaja area of Lagos where the suspect and the complainant reside. Okeke is alkso said to have visited the victim's shop and drank assorted drinks worth N20,000 without paying at the same period. When Ogochukwu got tired of waiting, she asked when their wedding plans would begin but of course Okeke began giving excuses. Ogochukwu got tired and asked that he returned her money but he refused giving her back. She reported the case at the Police at Area M Command, Idimu. Okeke was then arrested and taken to the Command for interrogation. Upon arrest Okeke admitted that he collected the said amount from her and also promised to marry her. He however said his family is against marrying the victim and promised to pay back the money, but should be given time. Okeke was charged before the Ejigbo Magistrates court for obtaining under false pretence and placing the victim under false oath. He pleaded not guilty and the presiding Magistrate, Mr Akeem Fashola granted him bail in the sum of N50,000 with two sureties in like sum. | I was framed for robbery because I denied a policeman sex - Woman tells court | Mr Olumide's Blog Posted: 28 Sep 2017 05:21 AM PDT  27-year old Victoria Amodu, a mum of 4 told an Ikeja High Court, Lagos , yesterday that she was framed for robbery by an Investigative Police Officer (IPO) at the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS), Ikeja Division,because she refused to give into his sexual bid for her release from their custody.Amodu who is a breadseller alongside one other person, Hammed Isiaka, are being charged for alleged conspiracy and armed robbery attack that was committed in August 2014. One of the charges read against her in court reads, "Hammed Isiaka, Victoria Amodu and others now at large, on or about August 12, 2014 while armed with a pistol did rob one Elizabeth Moses of a cash sum of N35, 000 and a cheque of N1.4m." However while giving her testimony in court, Amodu said: "I was arrested by the police while I was selling bread and taken to the station at SARS, Ikeja. An IPO (name not mentioned) there told me to call someone that would come for my bail. I called a neighbor, a lady that helps me look after my kids. When she arrived, the IPO said a woman could not sign my bail bond, which he put at N400,000. I became worried because I didn't know any man to call since I was no longer living with my husband and I was also new in Lagos. I decided to call my father but he refused to come to the station. He said since I was married he had no hand in anything concerning me. I didn't know what else to do at this time, so I started begging the IPO to let me go and take care of my kids since I didn't commit any offense. The IPO took me outside the cell to a corner and said that I am a pretty lady and that if I submit myself to him, I would be freed. I got angry and shouted at him, asking why he would make such a statement to me. He immediately dragged me back to the cell. Some others who were arrested that day were released after they paid money, though I don't know how much they paid. Nights after, the IPO brought out some case files and told me and others in the cell to sign them. He said that when we were done signing, we would be released. I agreed to sign the documents on the condition that he would not touch me. But the other men refused saying they couldn't sign what they didn't know. The IPO immediately brought out his gun and threatened to shoot them if they didn't sign and they fearfully signed it. After signing the documents, we were all taken to a Magistrates Court and from there, to Kirikiri Prison." Amodu pleaded that she be freed to go home to her children. | Pass Bills That’ll Be Impactful On The Economy – Elumelu tells National Assembly Posted: 28 Sep 2017 04:45 AM PDT  He said, "We need the system to work by itself. We need to hold the National Assembly accountable. "We need to encourage the National Assembly and hold them accountable. We need the National Assembly to help us pass progressive bills to help our country." Elumelu, who is also the chairman of Heirs Holding Limited, made the call in Abuja shortly after he was conferred with the Fellowship of the Nigerian Economic Society at the 58th annual conference of the society. He was honoured alongside the Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, and Prof. Essien Okoh of the University of Benin. Elumelu noted that there were a lot of policies that needed legislative approval to unlock the potential of the economy. He cited the creation of the Asset Management Corporation of Nigeria through legislation as an example of what good legislation could do. Elumelu also urged the Nigerian Economic Society to come, with recommendations to the government that would help reposition the economy on the path of recovery. Also speaking at the event, Sanusi said certain decisions, which had been taken in the past, were still having adverse consequences on the economy. For instance, he stated that the constitutional provisions that made it mandatory for each state to have a minister, as well as a certain number of legislative seats at the federal, states and local governments, were not necessary. According to the emir, this political structure comes with huge financial burden, and this is why the government had huge amounts as overhead expenses. | Man who stole $12,000 exposed after giving girlfriend N700k Posted: 28 Sep 2017 04:20 AM PDT  An office assistance, Ifeanyi Anyanwu, who absconded to Calabar after stealing his employer's $12,000 and gave his girlfriend N700,000, was yesterday arraigned before a Lagos magistrate's court. 28yrs old Anyanwu, who was working at a financial services company, is standing trial on a count charge of theft. The defendant, who pleaded guilty to the offence, was remanded in prison custody till October 31, for facts and sentence. The prosecutor, Friday Mameh, told the court during arraignment that Anyanwu committed the alleged offence while he was working with the complainant, Mr. Olalekan Salami, a financial analyst. He said the incident occurred on Furo Ezimora Street, Lekki Phase 1, Lagos, in Eti-Osa Local Government Area. Mameh said the defendant stole $12,000, equivalent to N4.5 million, belonging to the complainant, saying "the defendant was arrested through the help of his girlfriend in Calabar, who had gone to withdraw the N700,000, that she deposited in her bank account. "The defendant's girlfriend, after her arrest, told the Police how she came about the money, and then took the Police to the defendant's residence in Calabar, where he was apprehended and brought to Lagos." | Man Dumps Lady After Collecting N1.9m To Marry Her Posted: 28 Sep 2017 03:45 AM PDT  A 29-year old man, Mr Ebuka Okeke has been arrested and charged before a Lagos court for allegedly obtaining N1.9m from a single lady identified as Ogochukwu Ogbuehi under the false pretence that he will marry her. Unfortunately, after collecting her cash, he dumped her. According to PM Express, apart from obtaining the money, Okeke brought a baked cake and made her take an oath that she will not tell anyone that he collected the said money to marry her. The incident happened between March and July this year at the Iyana Ipaja area of Lagos where the suspect and the complainant reside. The suspect also went to the victim's shop and drank assorted drinks worth N20,000 without paying at the same period. However, it turned out that it was a scam and ploy Okeke used to obtain money from her as he did not fulfill his own side of the bargain. Ogochukwu waited for Okeke to come and perform the marriage rites as they agreed but he was not forthcoming. She asked to know why he had not fulfilled his promise and he gave flimsy excuses. The lady then demanded for her money but he refused giving her back. The matter was reported to the Police at Area M Command, Idimu. Okeke was then arrested and taken to the Command for interrogation. Okeke admitted that he collected the said amount from her and also promised to marry her. He said he found it difficult to convince his family to accept the lady because she was far older than him. He also explained that he had spent the money and asked to be given time to pay her in bits. Okeke was charged before Ejigbo Magistrates court for obtaining under false pretence and placing the victim under false oath. He pleaded not guilty and the presiding Magistrate, Mr Akeem Fashola granted him bail in the sum of N50,000 with two sureties in like sum. The defendant, who denied the allegation, was arraigned alongside one Hammed Isiaka on a six-count charge of conspiracy to commit robbery and armed robbery, contrary to Section 295(2)(a) of the Criminal Law No 11 Laws of Lagos State, 2011. One of the charges reads, "Hammed Isiaka, Victoria Amodu and others now at large, on or about August 12, 2014 while armed with a pistol did rob one Elizabeth Moses of a cash sum of N35, 000 and a cheque of N1.4m." However, while being led in evidence by her counsel, Nelson Onyejaka, Amodu told Justice Jose that she was unjustly arrested by the police on August 12, 2014 at Church Bus stop, Badagry, Lagos. She said she was selling bread at the bus stop when policemen raided the area, arrested her and others and bundled them into their truck, where they met some men who were already tied up. Narrating the incident, Amodu said: "I was arrested by the police while I was selling bread and taken to the station at SARS, Ikeja. | More revelations emerge in Customs’ seizure of 1,580 arms Posted: 28 Sep 2017 03:20 AM PDT  On September 11, the men of the Nigeria Customs Service intercepted a 20-foot container at the Tin Can Island Port with 1,100 pump-action rifles concealed in wash basins. 8 days after this discovery, another container was found at Tin Can Island Port with 470 pump-action rifles concealed among small connecting pipes. While addressing journalists on the seizure, the Comptroller General of Customs, Col. Hameed Ali (retd.), said the rifles were falsely declared as elbow plumbing plastics. He named Great James Oil and Gas as the owner of the two containers and the firm that imported the 1,580 guns from Turkey into the country. Ali had earlier hinted that the pump-action rifles were written under product description on the original bill of lading for the consignment, noting that the importer in connivance with the clearing agent had doctored the documents when they got to Nigeria. Searches by Punch had uncovered a Standards Organisation of Nigeria Conformity Assessment Programme certificate issued to the importer. The programme, involving a set of conformity assessment and verification procedures applicable to all products imported into Nigeria, was introduced in 2005 by the Federal Government to address the challenges of incessant influx of substandard and unsafe products into the country. The scheme, it was learnt, was designed to ensure that imported products would meet the specifications of acceptable standards for the protection of Nigerian consumers from unsafe and substandard finished products. The SONCAP certificate is a mandatory document required by the Customs for clearance of goods. Our correspondent observed that the certificate with reference number IMP061711547S was issued to Great James Oil and Gas Limited for the importation of non-cellular strip, a chemical used as raw material in the manufacture of shoe soles. The Head, SONCAP, SON, Frank Onyeji, confirmed that the certificate was issued in June. The certificate listed the address of the importer as No. 1 Warehouse Road, Apapa, Lagos. On a visit to the three-storey office complex in Apapa on Monday, our correspondent was told that there was no company called Great James Oil and Gas in the building. The receptionist at the gate also insisted that the firm had never been an occupant of the building, which also houses a tax and logistics firm. Reports have linked three men, Ayogu Cyril, Ayogu Kelvin and Ayogu Great James with the firm. | Lagos babymama nabbed for death of Caleb varsity student Posted: 28 Sep 2017 02:50 AM PDT  Chidinma has been arrested and is being detained at the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department, Yaba, for Akinbule's death, which occurred on Sunday. The duo started a romantic relationship three years ago and had a child together. They did not marry. It was gathered that Chidinma had visited Akinbule at his mother's house in the Gbagada area of the state around 9pm on Saturday to pass the night. It was gathered they had a misunderstanding at night which resulted in a fight, during which Chidinma allegedly hit Akinbule's head on the wall. Akinbule's elder sister, who spoke to Punch on phone on Wednesday, said Chidinma had yet to disclose what caused the argument which led to her brother's death. The sister, who did not give her name, said the family was being cautious in discussing the incident with "strangers" for security reasons. She said, "The lady has been arrested and she is in Panti (SCIID). The incident happened in our mother's house, not on the (Caleb University) campus. She came around to visit him. We have not ascertained what led to the argument. We have been trying to find out, but she is not saying the truth. "They had been together for about three years and they have a kid. She is a babymama. The boy is one year and six months old. That was the major thing that bound them together. "We are ready to follow the case to a logical conclusion. We have been asking her what led to his death because there is no injury on his body." The sister, however, declined replies to further inquiries on the matter, saying "this is a critical period for us and we are being very careful. Obtained by TMZ, the letter written in French and translated by Kim's lawyers reads in part, "After observing your emotion and realizing the psychological damages I inflicted … I decided to write to you, not to obtain from you some sort of indulgence. I want to come to you as a human being to tell you how much I regret my gesture, how much I have been moved and touched to see you in tears. Know that I fully sympathize with the pain you are enduring, your children, your husband, and your close ones.
