From Hotel Waiter To A Governor's Special Assistant

Posted: 19 Mar 2018 04:18 AM PDT

A hard-working Nigerian man identified as Abel Ifemi, has taken to social media to share his grass to grace story in a bid to discourage other job seekers from being idle and becoming a problem to the society.

The young man who is now a special assistant to the Governor of Bayelsa State on Social media, revealed how he worked in a hotel after the completion of his one year mandatory NYSC programme and was receiving N19,000 monthly to sustain himself, and urged people to start something first, no matter how small. His words;

"I have no work to do that is why I am committing crimes. That is the most moronic excuse any young Man can give.

"After graduation in 2011 and successful completion of the NYSC in 2012,I returned back to my State with the hope of having a good Job,but as all expectations were shattered and cuts off, after trekking the whole state with my big Brown file.

"My next point of action wasn't to commit crime by becoming a petty thief, but I kept hope alive and Started as a waiter in one of the hotels in town with 19k as my Monthly take home. 19k of a truth can't sustain me for the Month, but It was the best option I took than to remain idle at home.

"The above picture was my first day in office at that time.

"You certainly don't have any excuse to be idle and become a nuisance in the Society.

"Try and get something doing and be hopeful to God!

"Remember; for you to start small does not mean that you can't make it big!"

Big Boy Jonah Abbey Arrested By DSS; says he's a notorious gunrunner

Posted: 19 Mar 2018 03:18 AM PDT

Looks like another so called big boy living large without a legitimate source of income has been caught in the act. Crime and sinful lifestyles lead to troubles, eventually. Be guided.

Here's an official statement from the DSS:

In furtherance of tactical operations to stem activities of criminal elements across States of the Federation, the Department of State Services (DSS) wishes to inform the general public that it has, within the last ten (10) days in the month of March 2018, apprehended the following key members of kidnapping, gunrunning and armed banditry syndicates operating across the States of Plateau, Nasarawa, Taraba and Benue.

On 13th March 2018, about 1220 hours, at Wukari town in Wukari LGA, Taraba State, Service tactical team apprehended a notorious gunrunner, Jonah ABBEY aka Jonah IDI alongside his driver, Agyo SAVIOUR aka Dan-Wase. ABBEY has been on the wanted list of the Service for the last ten (10) years over arms and ammunition trade. He has been servicing criminal groups in Bayelsa, Ebonyi, Rivers, Imo, Anambra, Plateau, Nasarawa, and Benue/Taraba axis, including the notorious criminal syndicate led by Terwase AKWAZA aka Ghana in Benue State.

Recent intelligence indicated that ABBEY moved arms and ammunition from Konduga in Borno State into Taraba State through his driver, SAVIOUR. It may be noted that subject has entrenched his criminal activities in different parts of the country and as earlier mentioned, has clients especially in Plateau, Ebonyi, Cross River, Enugu and Bayelsa States, among others. Indications are that he sources arms from the Republic of Cameroon and parts of the North-East of Nigeria.

A similar operation on 15th March, 2018, about 0500 hours, at Chiwarna Hotel, Angwan Rogo by Bauchi road, Jos North LGA, by the Service tactical team led to the arrest of a high profile kidnap kingpin, Lawal IBRAHIM (a.k.a Alhaji AWALU). Subject was arrested alongside his cohorts namely Ado SALEH and Bayero ADAMU. The syndicate was responsible for the killing of a personnel of the Service in the State, Daanan BALGNAN, on 30th December, 2017 and was involved in other high profile kidnap incidents in Plateau and neighbouring States of Nasarawa, Kaduna and Bauchi.

Following the arrest, the sum of One Million, Five Hundred Thousand Naira (N1.5M) was recovered from the suspects. The money is part of the sum of two million Naira (N2M) ransom, which the syndicate collected from Ayuba GAMALE, a staff of Industrial Training Fund (ITF), whose two (2) abducted family members were released on 14th March, 2018. Other members of the syndicate are still being trailed by the Service.

The arrest of these suspects is significant for two (2) different but related reasons. In the first case, the arrested kidnap kingpin, IBRAHIM, is adjudged the most dangerous in Plateau State, as he is known to be principally responsible for recent kidnap incidents in the State. This arrest would be a great plus in the fight against these criminal gangs. In the case of Jonah IDI, his arrest would greatly degrade and disrupt the booming illicit arms supply business, which up till now has sustained the crisis in Taraba, Benue, Plateau and Nasarawa States.

Earlier, on 7th March, 2018 about 0023 hours, around International market, off George Akume road, Makurdi, Benue State, Service operatives arrested a top commander of the Terwase AKWAZA (aka GHANA) led criminal gang identified as Sesugh AONDOSEER. Suspect is believed to have masterminded several kidnap and robbery operations in Katsina Ala-Ukum and Gboko-Makurdi axis of Benue State as well as Takum in Taraba State.

Service intervention efforts is paying off in the South-East. For instance, on 16th March, 2018, about 0630 hours, at Ifite Village, Awka, Anambra State, operatives of the Service arrested two suspected kidnappers namely, Nnaemeka UDOUKWU and Nkem NNONYELU. Both suspects have been on the wanted list of the Service for their involvement in series of kidnap incidents in the State. In particular, UDOUKWU was one of the kidnappers involved in the abduction of one Margret ORJI, mother of an Onitsha-based businessman, Michael ORJI, in January, 2017. The kidnappers collected a ransom of two million naira (N2m) to release the victim. Both suspects are under Service custody, for further investigation.

This Service appreciates the general public for its support and cooperation in providing useful information on criminal elements in their domain. The Service also wishes to reiterate its stance, that no matter how long, every perpetrator of violence and criminality against the Nigerian State and its law-abiding citizens shall be made to face the full course of justice.

"I've Made Over N720m From Kidnapping - Another 'Rich' Kidnap Kingpin Confesses

Posted: 19 Mar 2018 02:58 AM PDT

As billionaire kidnap kingpin, Chukwudumeme Onwuamadike a.k.a Evans is facing trial in a Lagos court over his alleged criminal activities, another 'rich' kingpin, Isah Maiturari, has been apprehended by the police in Niger State.

Unlike Evans, Maiturari upon his capture surrendered to fate, saying that he wants to die.

"I have told God that I want to die this year, I am tired of this life, please let God take my life, let me die, that is my prayer."

These were the prayers of 61-year-old Isah Maiturari, a notorious kidnap kingpin and dealer in most stolen cars in Niger State.

Maiturari who hails from Paikoro Local Government Area of Niger State was arrested for the eight-time in 29 years last week when he was picked up by men of the Inspector General of Police's (IGP) "Operation Absolute Sanity" from his resident at Sauk Ka Futa, a suburb of Minna, the Niger State capital.

Maiturari, a father of 29 children and three wives had flourished in criminal activities, ranging from kidnapping to receiving and selling of stolen cars within Niger, Kogi, Kaduna and Kano states, as well as the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.

The Sun reports that in his four years as king of kidnappers in the state, Maiturari said he and his gangs realized well over N720 million from ransom paid by families of their victims.

"I was having so many problems from the kidnapping business so I had to leave it and entered into buying of stolen cars and I have been doing that for 29 years now.

"Although I left the business in 2013, but I came back to it again three years ago because of the current hardship.

"But I have told God that I want to die this year, I am tired of this life. I want God to take my life this year, please let me die," he told Sunday Sun.

Maiturari, however, said that he has no regrets over his criminal activities, which had made him to go to jail seven times.

"I have no regrets for what I have done in the last 29 years, but now it is time to die, and that is what I am waiting for, I told God that I want to die this year," he stressed.

It was gathered that in the last 29 years, Maiturari has been arrested and charged to court seven times, sentenced and jailed, but he had always regained his freedom in a dramatic manner.

It was also revealed that each time he regained his freedom from prison, Maiturari would put a call across to the security agents to taunt them, by telling them that he was out of prison and would begin business as usual.

In 2001, Maiturari was chased out of the state by the late former Governor Abdulkadir Kure, and he relocated to Kano State where he continued his stolen car business.

The die-hard kidnapper who is also a trans-border dealer in stolen cars has his customers scattered across Nigeria and Niger Republic.

His major markets within Nigeria are in Kano, Kaduna, Abuja, Lagos and Sokoto states.

Sunday Sun gathered that Maiturari who is said to be very meticulous with the proceeds of his crime has over 35 choice houses in Minna, Kaduna and Kano states.

He said that he bought his first stolen car for N400 and sold it for N800 in Kano.

According to him, the car was brought home by one of his sons who told him that the owner wanted to sell it.

That was the beginning of his journey into dealing in stolen cars, and for 29 years, Maiturari reigned supreme that made people in Paiko community to wonder if he was above the law.

And because of his criminal lifestyle, the kingpin who is from a well-known family in Paiko severed relationship with his other family members, except his wives and children.

Thus while he was arrested and paraded with one of his sons, all the three wives were at the Bosso Divisional Police Station where he was paraded to show solidarity to him.

Since his arrest, Maiturari has helped the police to recover about 35 vehicles from Lagos, Kaduna, Kano, Niger and other places where he has sold them.

Although none of the wives was ready to comment on the ordeals of their husband and the involvement of their son, a member of the community who said that he knows the most wanted car snatcher in Niger State, told our correspondent that Maiturari is a "hard nut to crack" in the stolen car business.

"Everybody in Paiko knows him as a person with highly questionable character, but people are even afraid of him because each time the police arrested him, before you know it, he will regain his freedom.

"There was a time he was even shot on his leg and that is why you see him limping. Some of his children are involved in the business with him".

The Police Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Moshood Jimoh, described Maiturari as the most wanted car snatcher in Niger State.

He assured that the apprehended suspect would be made to face the full wrath of the law this time around, saying that car owners can now go to sleep.

Man Who Married Sister In Anambra Renounces The Marriage

Posted: 19 Mar 2018 02:13 AM PDT

Following pressure from the community and church, the 25-year-old Chiadikobi Ezeibekwe of Agba village Ekwulobia in Aguata Local Government of Anambra State who recently announced the marriage between him and his 17-year-old sister, Chibuzor, has renounced the controversial marriage.

Chiadi as he is popularly called who spoke to Daily Sun at the Community Secondary School Isuofia in the local government declared that the marriage was no more and was not being talked about again as it stands dissolved.

His new stand came just as the Ekwulobia community and the Parish Priest of St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Ekwulobia, Rev. Fr. Igunatus Onwuatuegwu have fixed March 24, for formal dissolution of the marriage and cleansing of the land according to the church tradition.

The young man who is a Parents Teachers Association (PTA) engaged teacher at the school had before now stood to his gun on the marriage, insisting that it was divinely directed.

"We didn't just jump into this marriage thing because we can do it, God showed it to me and not only me, it was shown to other people in this family. God asked me to marry my sister yes, and I didn't propose to my sister. Sometimes you may have vision, you just keep it, and in the process she got the same vision and spoke out because if she had not had the vision, I would not have been able to speak about it.

"I have tried to feel ashamed, guilty or sober since this thing happened, but no way. I feel fine and at home. I have asked God to make me feel bad and guilty if I have done evil, but I am not feeling any of such," he had earlier said.

But speaking last week when he succumbed to pressure from his community, Chiadi said: "The marriage is dissolved; we are not talking about it again. We are not talking about that marriage again, let's see what the future holds, even the Bible said we should not worry for tomorrow as tomorrow would take care of itself, so I am not bothering my heart about it."

He, however, insisted that nothing outside his pronouncement to members of the family about the marriage had happened.

"We just proposed to marry, we have not gone far into it, no dowry, no ceremony. We just said we have accepted this thing, let's do it, before the thing spread and the whole noise started," he added.

I’ll Release Details of Saraki, Dogara’s Outrageous Salary, says Sagay

Posted: 19 Mar 2018 01:28 AM PDT

The Chairman of the Presidential Advisory Committee Against Corruption (PACAC), Prof. Itse Sagay (SAN), says the N13m allowances being received by senators is only a tip of the iceberg as Nigerians will be shocked when he releases details of the allowances of the principal officers of the National Assembly.

Sagay, who said this during an interview with The Punch, was responding to revelations by the lawmaker representing Kaduna-Central Senatorial District, Shehu Sani, that senators receive N700,000 monthly and a separate N13.5m as running costs.

Sagay, who has for several years accused federal lawmakers of receiving outrageous allowances, said principal officers of the National Assembly, including the Senate President, Deputy Senate President, Speaker, Deputy Speaker and the majority and minority leaders of both chambers, are receiving far more than what Sani revealed.

The senior advocate said the polity might explode when he released the details of their allowances.

He said, "There are many things the press doesn't know yet. If you come to know the allowances that the leadership of the two houses are getting… My God! It will blow up the country. What is the Senate President getting? It is not the ordinary N13m.

"What does he get as Senate President? What is the leader of the House getting, what is the deputy leader of the House getting? What is the Deputy Senate President getting? What are the minority leaders getting in both houses? Go and find out. It is an explosive stuff, I tell you. Eventually, I will come out with the figures. I am working on them now. When I am ready, I will come out with them."

Sagay lambasted spokesman for the Senate, Senator Abdullahi Sabi, for saying that the N13.5m allowances were already in the public domain.

He said it was hypocritical of the lawmakers to have berated him last year when he released details of their allowances.

He added that Sani's revelation was at variance with the details released by Saraki last year.

He added, "What they released then was their salaries which the Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Commission approved for them. What they are hiding now are the allowances they voted for themselves.

"The salary details released was just about N700,000 but what they voted for themselves is about 20 times that amount. That is the whole point and they were hiding it.

"I came out with the figures last year and they wanted to cut off my neck and now it has come out in the open and Sabi Abdullahi is saying it is nothing new but you were denying it in the past. So, they have a guilty conscience because they know what they are doing is shameful."

Mother Whose 2 Graduate Children Are Jobless Commits Suicide

Posted: 19 Mar 2018 12:53 AM PDT

A mother of two unemployed graduates, whose name was given as Uzoaku, on Saturday hanged herself in Mgbakwu, in the Awka North Local Government Area of Anambra State.

It was gathered that the 66-year-old woman had complained to some people that she was angry that her two children, who graduated some years back, had not got any job.

A villager, Uche Aniuno, said, "I saw her about four days ago. She expressed bitterness over the unemployment situation of her two children who graduated some years back. But I didn't know that could lead her to this situation.

"She was a hard-working woman and I won't say she was poor. One of her daughters is married with children. We are all surprised that she ended this way."

But the younger brother of the deceased, Fredrick Nwenu, told some journalists that his sister had no reason to take her life.

The Punch reports that Nwenu, who said he accommodated his late sister for some time, said the news came to him as a shock.

He said, "My sister had no reason to do this, having trained her two children to university level.

"She had two children who are university graduates. Her daughter is happily married with kids. So, she had no reason whatsoever to commit suicide."

The community was thrown into mourning when the news of the suicide spread, as many described her as an industrious woman.

It was gathered that the deceased hanged herself with a rope which she tied to the burglary-proof bars of the window in her room.

It was learnt that the victim was cooking in her kitchen around 4pm when she suddenly abandoned the food and dashed to the bedroom where she allegedly took her life.

A neigbour, Isaac Umeh, who described the incident as regrettable, wondered why a grandmother would take such a decision.

He said the deceased was alone at home when the incident happened.

He said, "Nobody was around that time. The food she was cooking was still on the fire when she suddenly rushed into the room where she used a rope to hang herself.

"The whole thing is still a mystery to us because nobody believed a woman of her age with grandchildren could take her own life."

When The Punch visited the residence of the deceased, sympathisers were still trooping in in large numbers to offer condolences to the family.

Calls made to the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Nkeiruka Nwode, rang out. A text message sent to her had also yet to be replied to as of press time.

Beautiful Cashier, Operations Manager Defraud Company Of N8m

Posted: 19 Mar 2018 12:03 AM PDT

Two officials of an outsourcing company, Sambhu Nigeria Limited, have been arrested by the Ogun State Police Command for allegedly defrauding the firm of about N8m.

The suspects – Daniel Odeh and Jane Ejeh – were arrested by the police from the Sango Ota division before they were transferred to the Anti-Fraud Unit of the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department.

Odeh was operations manager, Ejeh was the cashier.

The duo allegedly inflated salary payments to workers and diverted the excess cash into their own accounts.

The alleged fraud, which had been going on since May 2017, reportedly got to the attention of the company's Managing Director, Emmanuel Igoche, who reported to the police.

According to The Punch, the firm's Administrative Manager, Aladey Matthew, said the firm initially thought the amount was N5.3m until investigations revealed an additional N2.7m.

He said, "We manage labour for construction firms. Most of our clients, who have their sites in Ogun State, pay workers' salaries to us. After deducting our service charge, we then pay the workers. At the end of every month, our operations manager submits the wage bill to the MD, who then instructs that the money be disbursed.

"Daniel (Odeh) pays workers in Samstar Nigeria Limited, Pure Chem Manufacturing Limited, among others. We asked him to tell the workers to open bank accounts into which their salaries could but paid, but he refused. We paid blindly as he issued vouchers for workers' salaries. Unknown to us, the vouchers were being inflated and the surplus cash diverted.

"Sometime in May 2017, Pure Chem increased workers' salaries. Daniel submitted the new salary rates to us, but he continued to pay the workers the old rates. About N2.5m fraud was committed in Pure Chem alone."

It was learnt that the fraud came to light in January shortly after Ejeh got wedded in her hometown in Benue State.

The managing director was allegedly called by the company's new accounts officer, who became involved in the preparation of vouchers for workers' salaries in December 2017.

The MD was said to have also got calls from some workers, who claimed that their salaries had not been paid for several months.

"The new accounts officer had not been involved in the preparation of vouchers until in December 2017. He discovered the fraud and called the attention of the MD to it. The MD did not immediately take action until some workers started calling that they had not been paid their salaries for several months. We discovered that aside inflating the vouchers, there were many workers he did not pay for two to three months.

"Initially, the man said he was solely responsible for the fraud and the woman should not be interrogated. But during police investigation, the woman confessed to have collected N700,000 from the money," he added.

The police got a court order to remand the suspects beyond the 48 hours permitted by law to enable them get more information on the actual amount involved in the fraud.

It was alleged that Odeh and Ejeh admitted to N5.3m fraud.

During investigation, an additional N2.7m was allegedly discovered, which brought the figure to N8m.

"Investigations are ongoing as more revelations are coming up. The suspects have not said what they did with the money," Matthew added.

While Odeh had been working with the company for over five years, the woman got into the company about three years ago. Both suspects are indigenes of Benue State.

"The man brought the lady into the company. The whole fraud was caused by blind trust. The MD left a lot to the operations manager and that was why all this happened," the admin manager said.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Abimbola Oyeyemi, confirmed the incident, adding that the case was being investigated at the anti-fraud unit of the SCIID.

"The case was handled by the Sango division, but was transferred to the anti-fraud unit of the SCIID for proper investigation," Oyeyemi said in a text message to Punch on Sunday.

APC Begins Move To Reconcile Buhari, Saraki, Others

Posted: 19 Mar 2018 12:03 AM PDT

*President 'yet to make any deal'
All Progressives Congress (APC) leaders have launched a peace move to change the frosty relationship between the Executive and the National Assembly.

Lawmakers are threatening to override President Muhammadu Buhari's veto on the Electoral Act amendment, especially the reordering of the sequence of the 2019 elections.

In a joint statement at the weekend, Senate President Bukola Saraki and Speaker Yakubu Dogara vowed to be "on the same page on what is an appropriate reaction to the President's withholding of assent on the Electoral Act amendment bill".

The Nation gathered that party Chairman John Odigie-Oyegun, Nigerian Governors' Forum (NGF) Chairman Abdulaziz Yari and other leaders of the party had intervened through meetings with Presidency officials and National Assembly's leaders.

The party is said to be seeking a meeting point for the two arms of government to resolve the feud.

Other senior members of the party's National Working Committee (NWC) have also met with the leaders of the National Assembly "to seek their understanding".

"Yari has held four sessions with the Senate President. This is to underscore the fact that the party leadership and other national leaders of the party have intervened," a party leader said.

A ranking senator, who pleaded to be anonymous, said: "The party leaders and national leaders have been going forth and back to bring the two arms to the same table for talks. All the shuttles by these leaders actually laid the foundation for Thursday's session with the President by the National Assembly leaders.

"Apart from the budget and security matters, the President skipped many contentious issues, including the disagreement over amendments to the Electoral Act, especially Order of 2019 Elections.

"So far, the Assembly leaders have made some demands, but the President is yet to give anything in return. No appreciable concessions.

"Democracy is about give and take, but we are yet to get concrete commitments from the President, apart from the directive to Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) to submit budget details."

It was learnt that a lot of behind-the-scene shuttles took place between the National Assembly and party leaders and governors in the last one week.

National Publicity Secretary of APC Mr. Bolaji Abdullahi confirmed the intervention of the party's leadership in the disagreement. He said the party was hopeful of the resolution of the face-off.

"The party is doing its best to ensure that there is a meeting point between the two arms. We are working on how to resolve the issues in question.

"While the Legislature has a constitutional duty to make laws, the Executive also has the right to express its feelings on any law. All we need to do is to facilitate mutual dialogue and resolution of areas of disagreement."

Some of the issues between the Presidency and the National Assembly are:
  • Refusal by the National Assembly to keep to agreement on early passage of 2018 Budget;
  • non-submission of 2018 budget details by some MDAs;
  • non-clearance of more than 50 nominees presented to the Assembly by the Executive;
  • alleged deliberate frustration of the administration of the President by the lawmakers;
  • stoppage of alleged hounding of Saraki and other National Assembly members by anti-graft agencies;
  • compliance with the resolutions/ decisions/ summons of the National Assembly by the Executive; and
  • dropping of the nomination of Mr. Ibrahim Magu for Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) chairman.

7 Ways The Old Testament Connects Us To Christ

Posted: 18 Mar 2018 06:43 AM PDT

True Christians go back to the Old Testament to build a bigger and better picture of Jesus Christ. By connecting with His past, we connect better with Him and deepen our love for Him and the instructions he laid down for us.

The Old Testament connects us with Jesus' past in the following ways:

1. We are reading Jesus' Bible.
The 39 books of the Old Testament are the Scriptures He heard and read. These are the verses He memorized. This was His Sunday school syllabus. He fed His hungry soul on the Law, the Prophets, and the Poets. They nourished and edified Him.

2. We are learning Jesus' language.
Jesus was so familiar with the Old Testament that His vocabulary was saturated with Old Testament words and concepts. He spoke the Old Testament, taught the Old Testament, applied the Old Testament, and consciously and deliberately fulfilled the Old Testament. Like Bunyan, if you were to prick Him, He would "bleed Bibline."

3. We are singing Jesus' songs.
The Psalms were Jesus' hymnbook. They were what He worshipped with in the Temple and Synagogue. He used them to express faith, hope and trust; but also fear, anxiety, and even abandonment. He sang them on the eve of his death and even many of His last words were Psalm words.

4. We are feeling Jesus' feelings.
Paul prayed that he might know the fellowship of Christ's sufferings (Phil. 3:10).One of the best ways to do this is to read the Psalms that predict Christ's sufferings, especially the emotional sufferings, the agony of human betrayal and desertion, and ultimately the horror of divine abandonment (e.g. Ps. 22, 69). We feel Christ's feelings there in a an even deeper way than in the Gospels.

5. We are hearing Jesus' voice.
We must banish the false idea that it's God the Father who speaks in the Old Testament and it's God the Son who speaks in the New. Even if we say that it's the voice of the triune God we hear in the Old Testament, the Son's voice is equally joined to the Father's and the Spirit's. However, we can go further and say that it is God the Son who is specially speaking in the Old Testament. He is the Word of God, the usual way God speaks to sinners, the one mediator between God and man. "Thus says the Lord" effectively means "Thus says the Messiah." (Rev. 19:10).

6. We are seeing Jesus in action.
The Son of God visited the earth as the Angel of the Lord at least 20 times (and maybe many more times that are not recorded). We can see what kind of Savior he was in human form long before He came in human flesh as He frequently brought gracious messages and powerful help to His needy people.

7. We are admiring Jesus' trophies.
In some ways the Old Testament saints are even more amazing than New Testament saints. When you think of how little truth they had, how little of the Holy Spirit they had, how few the believers were, and how rare their encouragements, it's utterly amazing that they believed in the coming Messiah and kept believing. It can only be explained by the almighty work of Christ in the soul by His Holy Spirit. His Old Testament trophies of grace shine with a special luster in His "showcase."

Open the Bible at Genesis, travel back in time, connect with Christ in the Old Testament, deepen your relationship with Him, and increase the heat of your love for Him.
