What Does it Mean to Cleave to Your Spouse?

Posted: 09 Feb 2018 05:54 AM PST

Scripture suggests that marriage is to be a place of vulnerability and transparency. In Genesis God says, "Therefore a man shall leave his father and mother and cleave to his wife and they shall become one flesh" (Genesis 2:24). The act of cleaving involves fully respecting your mate, honoring him/her, knowing them and enjoying that intimacy.

Let's look a little more closely at this issue and its application to us.

First, cleaving to your mate means being dedicated to them. Having said "I do" means you are now dedicated to your mate. You have chosen to "forsake others" and are investing your life in this relationship. You are dedicated to keeping the relationship vibrant and healthy through being intentionally caring, giving and sacrificially loving.

Second, cleaving means ongoing exploration of who they are and how they are unique. We never stop learning about our mate. We are on a never-ending quest to fully understand and appreciate our mate. We experience joy and excitement in this journey. To not do this leaves our mate feeling profoundly neglected.

Third, cleaving means sharing with your mate on a deep level.Dedication to our mate means we will know them more fully and deeply than any other person. We study them because we want to know them fully and deeply. Intimacy requires deep sharing, transparency and vulnerability. To not do this leaves our mate feeling deeply abandoned.

Fourth, cleaving involves mutual submission. We gladly give of ourselves, our time, talent and treasures to our mate. We listen to them and take a keen interest in what they value. We are responsive to their needs and desires and understand this to be a responsibility of marriage. To not engage in this mutual submission leaves our mate very alone.

Finally, cleaving means enjoying each other fully and exclusively. Relating to this 'real person' is enjoyable. We delight in this relationship and are pleased to offer our full selves to them. In return, they give themselves to us and we enjoy a full and robust relationship. To not engage fully robs our mate of a God-given joy.

Lawyer Sues President Buhari For Nepotism In His Appointments

Posted: 09 Feb 2018 05:23 AM PST

A lawyer, Mr. Francis Moneke, has filed a lawsuit against President Muhammadu Buhari for allegedly ignoring the principle of federal character in the appointment of security chiefs.

The lawyer, in his suit, accused the President of being nepotistic in his key appointments by allegedly favouring northerners.

Moneke claimed that "the pattern of appointments of key and strategic security, intelligence and law enforcement office-holders, clearly shows favouritism and nepotism on the part of the 1st respondent (Buhari) in favour of the people from the northern part of the country where he comes from, against me and people from the southern part of the country, especially the South-East, where I come from."

He claimed to have been put at a disadvantage on account of the alleged nepotism on the part of the President.

He argued that with the alleged nepotism, the President had violated his (Moneke's) fundamental right to freedom from discrimination guaranteed under Section 42 (1) & (2) of the Constitution and Article 2 of the African Charter on Human & Peoples' Rights (Ratification & Enforcement) Act Cap A9, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004.

Joined as second respondent in the suit is the Attorney of the Federation, Mr. Abubakar Malami (SAN).

In his supporting affidavit, Moneke said, "I am aware that nepotism and tribalism are species of corruption, which jeopardise fairness, objectivity and equity and that when employed as an official strategy in government it compromises inclusivity, effectiveness, efficiency, professionalism, competence, the spirit of national unity and sense of belonging."

The lawyer is praying the court to compel the President to "change the current skewed structure of top federal security and law enforcement appointees by appointing some candidates from the South-East into such positions."

He wants to court to perpetually restrain the President from further shunning the principle of federal character in his appointments.

How Fake Oba of Lagos Dupe Woman N15Million

Posted: 09 Feb 2018 04:38 AM PST

Mrs Ajoke Moriselade, a UK based-Nigerian lady, on Wednesday, narrated before an Ebute-Meta Chief Magistrate's Court sitting in Lagos, how she was swindled of N15 million by a fraudster, Salami Peter, who claimed to be Oba of Lagos, HRM, Oba Rilwan Akiolu.

The woman said the fake Oba of Lagos had promised to get her a slot at the Lekki Free Trade Zone.

It will be recalled that the said fake Oba of Lagos, Salami Peter, was arraigned before Chief Magistrate Akorede Ajibade by the State Criminal Intelligence Investigation Department, SCIID, Panti, Yaba, Lagos on August 18, 2017, on charges of conspiracy, impersonation, fraud, forgery and stealing.

Though he pleaded not guilty to the charges and was admitted to N1 million bail with two sureties in like sum, he has, however, been unable to meet the bail conditions.

Vanguard reports that at the resumed trial of the accused, the victim, Mrs Moriselade, while being led-in-evidence by the prosecutor, Inspector Adebayo Oladele, said: "I was duped under false pretense of dealing with Oba of Lagos, His Royal Majesty, Oba Osuolale Akiolu, to procure a slot in the proposed Lekki Free Airport Investment.

"I met the accused person, Salami Oluwatobi Peter, on Facebook in 2016, through a friend request from Oba of Lagos and profile picture was that of Oba Rilwan Akiolu."

The fraud victim explained that after two months of consistent chat, the accused who disguised as Akiolu, sought for financial assistance that he wants to do business in America worth N250 million.

She stated that upon his request, she advised him to contact people like Tinubu or Fashola to get the assistance. But after several pleadings, she lent him N5 million, with a promise that he would pay back after the contract. Morisalade further stated that after the first assistance, the fake Oba of Lagos told her she should buy a share in a company; that after three months she will be earning a profit that would be deposited in her account in Nigeria.

She added that the alleged fraudster later sent her a form, asking her to deposit an initial N5 million. She stated that after giving him the second N5 million, the alleged fraudster stopped calling her and that she did not receive any update as regards the business.

When she queried the accused person, he was told that the money earlier transferred was too small to be a shareholder and she later sent another N5 million to him.

Asked by the prosecutor, Inspector Oladele, when she discovered the man behind the mask, Moriselade replied that it was when the accused stopped picking her calls. She then added his number to a social media platform with the hope of leaving a message that she discovered that the profile picture was that of a young man and not Oba Akiolu.

Her words: "I decided to play along and disguised to be his admirer to get the truth, as I later sent him two phones and an iPad worth £800 through my younger brother in Nigeria, giving him the defendant line to call for delivery and he actually received it."

She said when her younger brother gave her the description of the receiver, it tallied with the picture she saw on the social media platform and that was when it dawned on her that she had been dealing with a fraudster.

I Was Moved To Tears After Visiting Graveyard Of 73 People Killed By Herdsmen - Fayose

Posted: 09 Feb 2018 04:18 AM PST

After paying a visit to Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue state, Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, on Thursday called on the Federal Government to stop ruling the country with double standard.

The Governor said he was moved to tears after visiting the graveyard of 73 innocent people killed by Fulani herdsmen.

He commiserated with Benue people over the loss.

He said, "Those who committed less offence like hate speech are made to face the wrath of the law while those unleashing mayhem on others are treated as sacred cows."

He described the crisis in Benue State as ethnic cleansing and urged the people not to allow others to cow them, saying, "This nation belongs to our forefathers and they bequeathed it to us and we should not allow anyone to chase others away, this country belongs to all of us.

"I went to the graveside today and I was moved to tears. How can people be slaughtered like cows? There is no terrorism more than what has happened in Benue.

"I charge the Federal Government to stop ruling Nigeria with double standard. Killing innocent souls, sacking their communities is nothing but terrorism."

He urged Ortom not to be weary but to ensure that the anti-grazing law succeeds in the state.

In his response, Ortom regretted that the authorities did not heed the warning from Benue, saying if they did, the 73 souls and others would not have died.

While reiterating the call for the resignation of the Inspector-General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, Ortom described him and the defence minister as bare-footed people who were not capable of carrying out their responsibilities.
