Man's deportation to Mexico turns out to be 'death sentence' | Mr Olumide's Blog

Posted: 22 Sep 2017 04:10 AM PDT

A man ended up being killed after he was deported to Mexico.Juan Coronilla-Guerrero's wife feared her husband's deportation to Mexico would be a death sentence, and begged the judge to spare him,and she turned out to be right.

Coronilla-Guerrero was found dead three months after being booted from Texas by immigration agents, according to the American-Statesman.

"I knew," his wife told the newspaper. "I knew that if he came back here, they were going to kill him, and look, that's what happened. That's what happened," she told the paper.

Coronilla-Guerrero's wife, who was not identified, said four gunmen broke into the family home in San Luis de la Paz earlier this month and abducted him. One of their children was in bed with Coronilla-Guerrero when he was taken.

"'Don't worry, my love. Don't worry,'" Coronilla-Guerrero told his son, his wife told the American-Statesman.

Coronilla-Guerrero's body was found the next day, and authorities say he was shot to death. His wife was not in Mexico at the time of the abduction, but she later returned. She told the newspaper that she believes her husband's life was taken by the same gangs that led them to move to Texas.

"Juan was a very nice young man who always had a smile on his face," Austin lawyer David Peterson told the newspaper. "This is a true tragedy for him and his family. Deportation should never be a death sentence."

2 Qualities That Make A Great Leader

Posted: 22 Sep 2017 04:06 AM PDT

Schools are soon in session and fall small groups are preparing to launch. In classrooms across the country, people will step into leadership roles — some for the first time, others having served so many times they've lost count.

You may not be a school teacher or a Bible study leader, but you are a leader in some area of your life. Maybe you're a parent or grandparent. Maybe you're a friend or mentor to men or women in your church or community. You may not think of yourself as a leader, but we each lead others by word and deed, and we can learn from Christ's example of leadership during his time on earth.

Great leadership is consistent with Jesus' message to love God and love others.

Looking at the life of Christ and how he interacted with his disciples, we find two important elements of great leadership.

Great Leaders Submit to God
Decisive leaders are convincing. Many are self-confident and charismatic, trusting their own instincts and doing what seems best to them.

In the Old Testament, King Saul was a decisive leader to his own peril: charismatic, good-looking, and trusting his own wisdom. In 1 Samuel 13, Saul was in a bind. He did not have the authority to act as a priest and offer a sacrifice, but the people were starting to scatter. So Saul took matters into his own hands and did what seemed right to him. In the absence of a priest, this king took it upon himself to offer the sacrifice.

And it cost him. When Samuel finally arrived and saw what Saul had done, he rebuked him.

And Samuel said to Saul, "You have done foolishly. You have not kept the command of the Lord your God, with which he commanded you. For then the Lord would have established your kingdom over Israel forever. But now your kingdom shall not continue. The Lord has sought out a man after his own heart, and the Lord has commanded him to be prince over his people, because you have not kept what the Lord commanded you." (1 Samuel 13:13-14)

Unlike the leaders admired by the world, Christ's leadership is marked by his submission to God. Though he himself was God in the flesh, Jesus submitted to God the Father and did nothing that was outside of God's will.

Do you not believe that I am in the Father and the Father is in me? The words that I say to you I do not speak on my own authority, but the Father who dwells in me does his works. (John 14:10)

Saul's unwillingness to submit to God's authority cost him his throne. Christ's submission to God's authority established his throne forever.

How is your leadership characterized? Do you make decisions like Saul, based on what seems right at the time? Or do you stop and submit to God's authority in your life first?

Great Leaders Invest in Others
When people ask me how I'm doing, I'm trying to break the habit of answering, "Busy." The many demands of work, family, and ministry tug at my time. Being a task-oriented person, I can let my to-do list drive my decisions and forget that I'm surrounded by people.

Jesus was busy. So busy, in fact, that we don't have a complete record of everything he accomplished.

Now there are also many other things that Jesus did. Were every one of them to be written, I suppose that the world itself could not contain the books that would be written. (John 21:25)

We get a glimpse of Christ's busy ministry in Matthew. Chapter 4 ends with Jesus actively teaching in the synagogues and "healing every disease and every affliction." His fame grew, and with it the crowds. The work was endless as the crowds followed him from town to town.

If I'm faced with an overwhelming work load, I'm tempted to forego rest and work as fast as I can. But the danger of getting buried in work is that I can ignore the people closest to me and let relationships wither.

Jesus handled work differently. In spite of the many, many tasks that faced him, he invested in others. He took the time to sit:

Seeing the crowds, he went up on the mountain, and when he sat down, his disciples came to him. And he opened his mouth and taught them, saying: Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. (Matthew 5:1-3)

Jesus didn't allow his ministry to the masses to prevent him from ministering to the 12. We never get the sense that Jesus was harried or overwhelmed. He didn't short-change his disciples; instead, he sat with his disciples on the mountain and taught them.

Great Leaders Love God and Love Others
These two qualities of great leadership are completely consistent with Jesus' message to love God and love others.

"Teacher, which is the great commandment in the Law?" And he said to him, "You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the great and first commandment. And a second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself. On these two commandments depend all the Law and the Prophets." (Matthew 22:36-40)

By submitting to God's authority in our lives, we demonstrate a love for God. And by investing in the lives of those around us, we demonstrate a love for our neighbors.

With or without formal leadership roles, we each have a circle of influence. As we mentor our children, families, participants in our church groups, colleagues at work, or friends in our communities, we can follow Jesus' example by being leaders who submit to God and invest in others.

A 4-year-old girl in Florida died after reaching into her grandmother's purse for candy and accidentally pulling the trigger of a gun.

Yanelly "Nelly" Zoller passed away from a gunshot wound at the Tampa home of her grandparents.

"She just wanted some damn candy," father Shane Zoller told the Tampa Bay Times on Wednesday.
Nelly was "attached to her nana's hip" and loved staying at her grandparents' house, "I was driving to pick her up with her bathing suit in my car to take her to the splash pads," he told the newspaper. "When I pulled up, that's when I saw all the police lights."

Shane Zoller, who is 22, says he was in high school when he became a dad, and he would have had to quit school if not for his parents' help. Zoller shared custody with Nelly's mother.

Little Nelly loved playing with her puppy, watching cartoons and jumping on her couch, according to the newspaper.

Body Language experts explains why Trump’s marriage may be in jeopardy | Mr Olumide's Blog

Posted: 22 Sep 2017 03:10 AM PDT

President Donald trump made waves last week when he greeted his wife on stage with an "awkward" handshake, and a body language expert says the move made the first couple "look horrible."

The moment came last Friday during an appearance at Joint Base Andrews in Maryland when President Trump gave Melania a handshake after she introduced him in front of military families.

"You go sit down, honey," Trump said as he urged Melania off stage.

Social media was quick to explode with commentary over the encounter.

Body language expert Dr. Lillian Glass warns it could be a signal of trouble in their marriage.

"It makes them look horrible. It makes them look like their marriage is in jeopardy," Glass told AOL News.
"It fuels gossip. It makes them look like they're just in it for the show and she can't stand him."
Glass suggests the nature of the event during which the formal greeting occurred might have played a factor, saying Trump may not fully grasp appropriate military protocol at public events.

"Many politicians know what to do, they know how to act, or they've been in similar situations before with foreign activities and also with the military," Glass says.
"He doesn't really know what to do. He doesn't have that background."
Offering a bit of advice, the body language expert suggests the pair should have the guidance of a "chief of protocol" who can guide them on the "where to walk" and "what to do" elements of public appearances.

If left without help in navigating the ins and outs of public life as America's first couple, Glass suggests the Trumps may continue to suffer from the "Free Melania" headlines that often make waves when an odd public encounter occurs.

"They're extraordinarily awkward," Glass warns. "And it looks very odd."

Cardi B's Alleged Cop Choke Hold Seems Made Up- NYPD | Mr Olumide's Blog

Cardi B's claim she was choked out by a cop isn't convincing to the NYPD because they can't find any evidence of it.
NYPD Assistant Commissioner Peter Donald tells TMZ ... NYPD conducted a full investigation into the Bronx rapper's allegation an officer put her in a choke hold Tuesday and slammed her up against her SUV. He says they can't find any proof it happened.

Donald says commanders in each precinct around Columbus Circle, where Cardi claims the choke hold went down, looked into all records and surveillance video of the area and could not find a thing to support her account.

Although she's pissed off about the incident, she isn't talking about legal action

Man's bodily fluid found in soap dispensers at a Detroit airport | Mr Olumide's Blog

Posted: 22 Sep 2017 02:40 AM PDT

An "unusual substance" was discovered in soap dispensers in several bathrooms at Detroit Metropolitan Airport last week and an investigation is underway.

The substance was found in the North Terminal bathrooms, and airport workers believe it was a man's body fluid, WJBK-TV reported.

"I just used the men's bathroom, I just washed my hands and coming to find this out — it is a little disgusting," traveler Matthew Demers told the station
Jamilia McClendon, who cleans the airport bathrooms, believes the culprit is an airport worker, not a passenger.

"The way the soap dispensers are under the sink, a passenger wouldn't know how to get up under, and untwist them," she told WJBK. "It really is disgusting. A lot of crazy things happen at the airport."
She added that the cleaning crew has taken extra precautions to make sure the soap is actually soap.

It's unclear if the substance was indeed a bodily fluid because it hasn't been tested yet, according to WDIV-TV.

10 Sweet Ways A Godly Wife Can Show Her Husband Love

Posted: 22 Sep 2017 02:15 AM PDT

It was the middle of the morning frenzy. You know, those crucial moments when you're trying to pack the gym bag, collect the dress clothes, unearth the laptop, and still leave home on time.

This particular morning things were less than smooth. We usually take turns having this kind of morning, and today it was my husband's turn.

So I asked him, "What can I do?"

"Find my brown shoes."

A simple thing, but I know all too well the frantic feeling. So I found the shoes, and then made him a sandwich for lunch.

Isn't that what love is about? Giving bits of grace in everyday life. Here are 10 little ways a godly wife can give some extra grace and show her husband he's loved.

1. Brag on him
We've all known the women who can't stop complaining about their husbands. Next time you're out with friends, brag on your hubby a little. Find something you're grateful for and share it. Slip in a good story about him.

Not only will it build him up to others, it will solidify the story in your mind that your husband is brag worthy. Being a wife he can trust to build him up to others shows your husband he's loved. (Philippians 4:8)

2. Listen to him
Most women aren't part of their husband's daytime schedule. He does his work and you do yours.

One little way to show your hubby he's loved is by being interested in what takes up so much of his time, energy, and thoughts on a given day. Ask him how his day was, truly listen, and you show him you care about him.

3. Serve him in unexpected ways
Whether it's picking up new shoelaces for his dress shoes or making his favorite dinner on opening night of football season, you can find small ways to serve your hubby each day. Try asking yourself, "What can I do to brighten his day?" And then do that!

Acts of service don't have to be grand or expensive. Little, thoughtful things often go further than the grandiose gesture. (Romans 12:9-10)

4. Pray for him specifically
Set aside a few minutes to think about what his day's like and pray for your husband specifically. Then send him a random text or leave a note to let him know you're praying for him.

Prayer changes things, and knowing someone's praying for him specifically could be the exact encouragement your hubby needs today. (Colossians 4:2)

5. Tell him why you love him
It seems obvious to say, "I love you." But when was the last time you told him why?

Take a couple minutes on Monday morning and write down 5 things you love about your hubby, using the phrase "I love that you are . . . ." Then share one with him each day throughout the week and see if he doesn't feel more loved. (1 John 3:11)

6. Greet him happily
You know how your dog wags his tail and wiggles like you're his favorite person in the world who's been gone for eons (even if it's only been thirty minutes)?

What if you treated your husband like that? You don't have to wag your tail if you don't want to, but smiling and showing him you're glad he's home are a fabulous easy way to shower your hubby with love.

7. Take the initiative for date night
The next time date night is on the calendar, take the initiative to plan it. It doesn't have to be fancy or elaborate. Make some coffee, pour it into to-go mugs, and take a drive together. Pack a low-key picnic and go to the park. Or head to his favorite store and window shop together.

Spending time together sans kids/work/bills talk is a delightful way to show your husband you care.

8. Make space and time for his interests
Does he love football or camping or tinkering with his car? Make space for the hobbies he enjoys. Sneak away on a Sunday afternoon and leave him to yell at the TV as much as he wants. Encourage him to go camping with the guys. Set aside a special spot in the garage for his tools.

Creating space and time for his interests shows your husband that who he is is important to you and that he is important to you.

9. Ask for his advice... and take it
You know how most women like to tell their husbands long stories about their day? What if next time you had a problem, you asked your hubby for his advice – and made a point to quietly listen. And when the situation was resolved, you let him know how his advice worked and you were grateful for his help.

Honoring him by treasuring his opinion can help your husband feel valued and loved.

10. Assume the best
Next time the socks are on the floor again or the gas tank's empty in your car or he forgets to call on his way home, try telling yourself the best story instead of the worst. Assume the meeting was beyond his control, the phone was dead, and he aimed for the hamper.

Assuming the best about a person helps us treat them better. We react in kinder ways when we give people the benefit of the doubt. And to your husband, those small stories you tell yourself add up to the larger story of "You are loved." (1 Corinthians 13:7)

Catholic and Protestant: What's The Difference?

Posted: 22 Sep 2017 01:50 AM PDT

Ask a serious Protestant today what is the biggest threat to orthodox Christianity today, and he might mention cultural hostilities, the sexual revolution, or nominalism in our churches. But if you would have asked a Protestant the same question a hundred years ago, he would have almost certainly mentioned the Roman Catholic Church. Until fairly recently, Protestants and Catholics were, if not enemies, then certainly players on opposing teams.

Today, much of that animosity has melted away. And to a large extent, the thaw between Protestants and Catholics has been a good thing. Sincere Protestants and Catholics often find themselves to be co-belligerents, defending the unborn, upholding traditional marriage, and standing up for religious liberty. And in an age that discounts doctrine, evangelical Protestants often share more in common theologically with a devout Roman Catholic steeped in historic orthodoxy than they do with liberal members of their own denominations. I personally have benefited over the years from Catholic authors like G. K. Chesterton, Richard John Neuhaus, and Robert George.

And yet, theological differences between Protestants and Catholics are still wide and in places very deep. As the 500th anniversary of the Reformation draws near, it's important to be conversant with some of the main issues that legitimately divide us, lest we think all the theological hills have been laid low and all the dogmatic valleys made into a plain.

Below are a few of the main points that still separate Catholics and Protestants. Of course, many Roman Catholics may not believe (or even know) what their formal theology states. But by seeking to understand official church documents we can get a good idea of what Catholics are supposed to believe and see how these differ from traditional Protestant beliefs (unless otherwise noted, quotations are from the Catechism of the Catholic Church).

The Church
Since Vatican II, the Catholic Church has softened its stance toward Protestants, calling them "estranged brothers." Nevertheless, to be a part of the church in its fullness one must be immersed in the Roman Catholic system of sacraments, orders, and under the authority of the Pope. "Fully incorporated into the society of the Church are those who... are joined in the visible structure of the Church of Christ, who rules here through the Supreme Pontiff and the bishops."

Further, the Pope is considered infallible when he speaks ex cathedra (from the chair); that is, when he makes official doctrinal pronouncements.

The Catholic Church also has seven sacraments instead of two--Eucharist (or Lord's Supper) and baptism like Protestants, and then penance, holy orders, marriage, confirmation, and last rites.

Scripture
Catholics have a larger biblical canon. In addition to the 66 books in the Protestant Bible, Catholic Bibles include the Apocrypha, with books like Tobit, Judith, 1 and 2 Maccebees, Sirach, and Baruch. Catholic teaching also elevates tradition more than Protestants do. Granted, many evangelicals suffer from ignoring tradition and the wisdom of the past. But Catholic theology goes beyond just respecting the past; it sacralizes it. "Both Scripture and Tradition must be accepted and honored with equal sentiments of devotion and reverence," the Catechism states.

Likewise, the Magisterium has the authority to make definitive interpretations. "The task of giving an authentic interpretation of the Word of God, whether in its written form or in the form of Tradition, has been entrusted to the living, teaching, office of the Church alone . . . to the bishops in communion with the successor of Peter, the Bishop of Rome." The issue of authority continues to be the biggest practical divide between Protestants and Catholics.

Lord's Supper
Central to the Catholic faith is the Mass (their worship service), and central to the Mass is the celebration of the Eucharist. Catholics believe that bread and wine are transubstantiated into the actual, physical body and blood of Jesus Christ.

The elements are offered as a sacrifice from the church and a sacrifice of Jesus Christ's work on the cross. This is not simply a remembrance of Christ's sacrifice, but the same atoning work: "The sacrifice of Christ and the sacrifice of the Eucharist are one single sacrifice . . . the sacrifice [of the Eucharist] is truly propitiatory."

Baptism
Catholics teach that "justification is conferred in Baptism." The waters of baptism wash away original sin and join us with Christ. Baptism is not merely a sign and seal of grace, but actually confers saving grace.

Mary
Mary is not only the Mother of Christ, but the Mother of the church. She was conceived without original sin (the immaculate conception) and at the end of her earthly life "was taken up body and soul into heavenly glory, and exalted by the Lord as Queen over all things" (assumption). She intercedes for the church, "continues to bring us the gifts of eternal salvation," and is "a mother to us in the order of grace."

Mary was more than just the faith-filled mother of Jesus: "The Blessed Virgin is invoked in the Church under the titles of Advocate, Helper, Benefactress, and Mediatrix."

Purgatory
Those who die in God's grace, but still imperfectly purified, are assured of eternal life, but must first undergo purification in purgatory. Because of the presence of this intermediate state, the Catholic Church has developed the practice of prayer for the dead. "The Church also commends almsgiving, indulgences, and works of penance undertaken on behalf of the dead."

Concerning the salvation of those who do not hear the gospel, the Catholic Catechism is committed to inclusivism: "Those who, through no fault of their own, do not know the Gospel of Christ or his Church, but who nevertheless seek God with a sincere heart, and, moved by grace, try in their actions to do his will as they know it through the dictates of their conscience--those too may achieve eternal salvation."

Merit
It is not really fair to say "Catholics teach that you can earn your salvation." That may be what many Catholics believe, but the official teaching of Rome is more nuanced, though still a long way off from the Reformation understanding sola gratia. The Catechism summarizes: "Since the initiative belongs to God in the order of grace, no one can merit the initial grace of forgiveness and justification, at the beginning of conversion. Moved by the Holy Spirit and by charity, we can then merit for ourselves and for others the graces needed for our sanctification, for the increase of grace and charity, and for the attainment of eternal life."

Justification
Catholic teaching rejects the Protestant doctrine of imputed righteousness. The question is this: is the righteousness whereby we are forgiven and made right with God a righteousness working in us or a righteousness reckoned to our account? Catholics say the former, Protestants the latter. According to Catholic teaching, justification is more than God's declaration of our righteousness based on Christ's work, it is also a renewal of the inner man and reconciliation with God. Of course, these are good things too, but Catholics make them present in and through justification, rather than by faith alone.

The Council of Trent, from the 16th century Catholic counter-reformation, declares: "If anyone says, that men are justified, either by the sole imputation of the justice of Christ, or by the sole remission of sins, to the exclusion of grace and charity that is poured forth in their hearts by the Holy Ghost, and is inherent in them; or even that the grace, whereby we are justified, is only the favor of God: let him be anathema." While individual Protestants and Catholics may work to find common ground on justification, the official teaching of the Roman Church is still opposed to any notion of an imputed righteousness through faith alone.

Conclusion
Should Catholics and Protestants treat each other decently and with respect? Of course. Will we labor side by side on important moral and social matters? Quite often. Can we find born-again Christians worshiping in Catholic churches? I'm sure. But are the disagreements between Protestants and Catholics, therefore, negligible? Hardly. The differences still exist, and they still matter.

Sanctify us by your truth, O Lord; your word is truth.

Profs, SANs, others disagree on court order banning IPOB

Posted: 22 Sep 2017 01:23 AM PDT

Opinions of legal experts were sharply divided on Thursday on the order of the Federal High Court, Abuja proscribing secessionist group, the Indigenous People of Biafra, which also classified the agitators as a terrorist organisation.

The Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Mr. Abubakar Malami (SAN), had, on Wednesday, on behalf of the Federal Government, obtained an interim order proscribing IPOB and declaring the secessionist group as a terrorist organisation.
The order was granted by the acting Chief Judge of the Federal High Court, Justice Abdu Kafarati, in chambers.
The judge held, "That an order, declaring that the activities of the respondent (Indigenous People of Biafra) in any part of Nigeria, especially in the South-East and South-South regions of Nigeria, amount to acts of terrorism and illegality, is granted."
The immediate past Lagos State Solicitor-General, Mr. Lawal Pedro (SAN); a human rights advocacy group, Access to Justice; activist lawyer, Mr. Ebun-Olu Adegboruwa, and IPOB faulted the order of Justice Kafarati, saying it had no legal precedent.
But two professors of Law, who are also Senior Advocates of Nigeria, Yemi Akinseye-George and Fidelis Oditah; other SANs – Yusuf Ali and Tayo Oyetibo – and the Special Assistant to the President on Prosecution, Mr. Okoi Obono-Obla, argued that the order of the court was valid and backed by law and fact.
IPOB is not a juristic person, can't be sued –Pedro, Olu-Adegboruwa
In a statement on Thursday, Pedro wondered whether IPOB was a juristic person that could be sued.
He also observed that though the order proscribing IPOB was granted pursuant to an ex parte application, the pronouncement of the court sounded rather declaratory and final.

Lawyer Dragged To Court For Alleged Fraud In Abuja

Posted: 22 Sep 2017 01:20 AM PDT

The police in FCT, Abuja, on Thursday arraigned a lawyer, Clifford Eze, who allegedly forged a landed property document to defraud a man of N1 million.

Eze, a resident of Maitama, Abuja, appeared before an FCT High Court at Apo on a six-count charge bordering on cheating, breach of trust, forgery and issuance of dud cheques.

According to Vanguard, prosecutor Patrick Ogbele, told the court that Eze and others at large, fraudulently collected N1 million from one Mr. Asekun Adedoyin on April 16.‎

He said the lawyer collected the sum on the pretext of selling a plot of land to Mr. Adedoyin.

He said the land, situated at Jikwoyi, Abuja, did not belong to the lawyer.

According to him, the lawyer forged a letter of offer of terms of grant/conveyance of approval, deed of conveyance and power of attorney. He added that the lawyer presented the letter as genuine to Mr. Adedoyin and converted the N1 million for his personal use.

The prosecutor also said Eze issued two Diamond Bank cheques of N500,000 to Adedoyin which were not honoured due to insufficient funds.‎

He said the offences contravened the Penal Code.

The lawyer, however, pleaded not guilty, and was granted bail by Justice Abubakar Idris-Kutigi‎ in the sum of N300,000 with one surety in like sum.

The judge said the surety must be a civil servant of Grade Level 8 and above. He adjourned the case until Nov. 14 for substantive hearing.

Covenant University & Canaanland Has 15MW Gas Plant

The gas plant was needed after a 2012 report indicated that Covenant University had spent N700m only on diesel for a year. Later they had to start buying electricity from a company in Agbara.

Then the Church started constructing a multi billion naira 15 Megawatt gas plant in 2014. The plant is ready and currently serves Canaanland and Covenant University.

The university plans to produce its own energy independent of the Church, using Solar and Waste.

Apart from saving cost, the gas plant also stopped the noise pollution from the diesel generators.

Policeman called to investigate burglary steals cash, ATM cards, wallet from crime scene

Posted: 22 Sep 2017 12:47 AM PDT

Florida police deputy has been accused of stealing cash, credit cards and a wallet from a crime scene.
Orange County Sheriff's Capt. Angelo Nieves tells local news outlets that Deputy Joseph Suheil Haddad was arrested Tuesday following an internal affairs investigation which found that he'd used the credit cards illegally.
Officials say Haddad responded to a burglary on Sunday, which evolved into a drug investigation.
The person who reported the burglary, Sammy Shehata, was then arrested. When that man asked deputies if he could gather his belongings, he noticed that items including $1,750 in cash and the credit cards were missing.
Shehata said Haddad was inside the house when he went to retrieve his things. "He even said, 'Well, I don't have it.' It's not like I asked him if he had it," said Shehata.
An investigation was launched against Haddad, and Osceola County deputies discovered the cards had been used in their jurisdiction.
Shehata said when he got out of jail, he had notifications from his bank that his credit cards had been used, so he reported it to the sheriff's office.

The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Ibrahim Idris, has conferred a post-humous promotion on late Assistant Superintendent of Police, Cyril Nwosu, who was killed when suspected members of IPOB attacked and burnt down the police post in Ariaria Aba.

Speaking during his visit to Abia state to see things for himself and also assess the security situation in the state after the recent army-IPOB clash, the IGP said:

"Today, I confirm the promotion of the late police officer, Cyril Nwosu, who was yet to be confirmed as a substantive as a ASP.
"We have seen a lot of changes in Abia, the crises experienced in the state in the past few days are events that are not new, where some misguided elements tried to achieve their dreams in a wrong way.
"I believe Nigeria must be stronger, every part of Nigeria has its strength, if will we try to harness this strength together, we are going to make this country far better than we are now"

JTF Rescues 2 Soldiers, 4 Civilians From Kidnappers’ Den

Posted: 22 Sep 2017 12:20 AM PDT

Troops of the Joint Military Task Force in the Niger Delta, code-named Operation Delta Safe, say they have rescued two abducted soldiers and four civilians from a kidnappers' den.

The OPDS, with headquarters in Igbogene, Yenagoa, Bayelsa State, also said the troops discovered human skulls and bones during the raid of the kidnappers' camp in Rivers State.

The Coordinator, Joint Media Campaign Centre, OPDS, Major Ibrahim Abdullahi, said in a statement on Thursday that their operation followed a report of kidnap of two soldiers while on transit for banking services in Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni Local Government Area of Rivers.

He said after the report, the OPDS swung into action by mobilising troops for the rescue operation.

The outfit's spokesman said when the suspected militants/cultists sighted troops approaching their den, they engaged the troops in a gun battle.

He, however, said during the gun duel, the troops engaged the kidnappers with superior firepower, leading to casualties on the side of the suspected kidnappers, while others escaped into the forest with gunshot wounds.

Abdullahi said, "On September 18, 2017, about 7:30 am, OPDS headquarters received a report of kidnap of two soldiers while on transit for banking services in One LGA, Rivers State.

"Troops were immediately mobilised, swung into action and discovered a militant camp with several shrines in a forest at Obiozimini community in Rivers State.

"On approaching there, the suspected kidnappers opened fire on the troops who subsequently engaged them with superior fire power, leading to casualties on the side of suspected kidnappers while others escaped with various degrees of gunshot wounds into an adjoining forest.

"The operation successfully rescued the two abducted personnel. Further search of the camp site led to the rescue of four more civilians that were earlier kidnapped, including a lady."

Abdullahi said the camp and shrines were subsequently destroyed, rescued victims were evacuated to one of their medical facilities in the area.

He urged members of the public to provide any useful information about the suspects.
