What the Heart Knows Best

Posted: 19 Jul 2017 03:46 AM PDT

For the last five years or so, my kids have taken Tae Kwon Do classes. After working hard at a sport for so long, it was exciting for all of us when they tested for black belt last month.

The dojang where the test took place is a two story building. The students who were testing that day sat on the blue gym mats on the bottom floor while those watching the test gathered on the top floor where there was a railing overlooking down to the floor below.

I leaned over the railing with all the other moms and dads and watched my kids demonstrate what they've learned these last five years.

It took more than half an hour for them to go through all their forms. One after another, the group of twenty students stepped as one—kicking, slicing, jabbing, turning—doing the forms for each of the ten belts they had learned so far. They did so, following the instructions shouted out to them in Korean by one of the Masters.

Tao Kwon Do, like other martial arts, is a method of self defense. They say that just taking one self defense class isn't enough to protect yourself in the case of an emergency. That's because when we are in a crisis, we revert back to what we know best. Our minds aren't thinking clearly as adrenaline mixed with fear courses through our bodies. It's only if you've taken self defense classes for years that you are likely to use it to defend yourself in an emergency. This is also why schools practice fire drills every month—we respond with what we know best when faced with a crisis.

The same is true for us spiritually when we face a trial in our life. When a hardship or season of suffering comes upon us out of nowhere—when we are filled with anxiety, worry, fear, despair, and uncertainty—we respond to that trial with what our heart has practiced, what it knows best. Like rain water follows the crevices and paths already worn in the ground, our hearts will follow what we've studied and learned and meditated upon most.

For believers, if we have not previously trained our hearts in God's word, if we have not studied and learned from Scripture about God's character, the how's and why's of trials in our lives, and the hope we have in Christ, our automatic response will not be to turn to those truths. We won't instinctively cling to the gospel. We won't turn to our Rock, Savior, and Deliverer; instead, we may panic. We might lay blame. We might turn to false comforts and counterfeit gods. We might lash out at others.

In our most desperate moments of life, when we find ourselves unexpectedly faced with a crisis, our theology comes to the surface. What we really believe about God reveals itself out of the depths of our hearts. And in that moment, we discover if what we believe is firm enough to stand on or is a shifting sand that gives way to the next crashing wave.

If you don't know whether your theology would stand in a moment of crisis, take the time today to read and study what God's word teaches about who God is, his character, his works, his redemptive purposes in our lives. Learn about the ways he works in the world, his sovereignty over all he has made, and his faithfulness to do all he has promised. Study his promises and his fulfillment of those promises in Christ. Read Paul's letters and learn about the process of sanctification, the Holy Spirit's work in our hearts, and the role of discipline and instruction in our sanctification. Study Jesus' life and see how he responded to suffering, hardship, and sorrow. And most of all, look to the cross and see how Immanuel, God made flesh, became the Suffering Servant, and defeated sin and death in our place.

Like the forms my kids practiced over and over, we need to learn and study God's word until it becomes part of us. Until our heart moves in rhythm with it. Until we know it so well, in the case of an emergency, it's the truth that leads us to a place of safety—our Savior.

Rob Kardashian's revenge porn posts of Blac Chyna could cost him $5m | Mr Olumide's Blog

Posted: 19 Jul 2017 02:57 AM PDT

Rob Kardashian could be in serious trouble with the courts after posting naked revenge porn pictures of ex-fiancée Blac Chyna online.

And a celebrity image expert believes that his actions could have cost him a LOT of money as well.

Celebrity brand and reputation expert, Eric Schiffer, exclusively told Mirror Online that he could have lost an estimated $5 million after posting naked snaps of Chyna.
Eric said:

"With Rob's reality show drowned for good, personal appearance fees, and other endorsement possibilities decimated, the hit inflicted to Rob Kardashian's bank account in 2017 is in excess of $5m.
"After Rob's unhinged, all out war, and digital bloodbath against Blac Chyna, he should extend his apology beyond the 'Kardashian klan' and make a public apology to Blac Chyna and fans.
"Cyber-bullying Blac Chyna or any woman is insanely monstrous. Rob Kardashian needs to mature up, grow self-control, and act like a man to prevent decapitating his brand along with the entire Kardashian family. His family's silence to the public says it all; they know they can't defend digital slaughter and pummeling acts against women."
Revenge porn is a criminal offence in California.

"This was what I looked like, daily, for years," she wrote. "This is what my husband dealt with. This is what my little girls walked in on. This is what my family and friends saw, on the rare occasions I left the house.
"I was SICK. I was DYING. I was so far gone I thought I could NEVER recover. I was so lost I couldn't imagine a life without using."

5 Smart Ways To Make Troubling Clients Happy

Posted: 19 Jul 2017 02:46 AM PDT

Handling stressful or difficult clients is not something many businesses look forward. But they have no choice than to deal with the client's complain as they are the oil that lubricates any business. Clearly, they exist in every business but it is better to keep them if you can. This is why they say that the customer is never wrong. So, how may you keep your difficult clients?

Jumia travel shares ways to keep your difficult customers happy.

Allow them to vent
Sometimes, you have to just keep quiet and allow your client to express everything on their minds. You should note that they become difficult because they feel they cannot say what they have experienced by using your service.

Reassure them
After allowing them to express themselves, do not let them feel that you do not have their best interests at heart. The simplest thing to do is to reassure them that every decision is to make them happy.

Apologise
Like earlier said customers are king. They are always right. No matter how infuriated you may be with them, you just have to see things from their perspective. Hence, always take the blame, even when you know that you are not at fault. Whatever the case may be, always take responsibility.

Come up with a solution
This is probably the most effective strategy you can use when handling a stressful client. When there's a problem, a good business person comes up with a solution.

Learn from the situation
These difficult customers have a lot to teach businesses. So, evaluate who your difficult customers are, then evaluate why they are this way. You may want to deal with them differently because you know they are trouble. But at the same time, they are loyal.

Ex-Drug Addict Turns Deaconess, Inaugurates Rehabilitation Centre

Posted: 19 Jul 2017 02:16 AM PDT

A non-governmental organization, David Refuge Care Foundation, which aims at reorienting social deviants, including women, cultists and drug addicts, has been inaugurated at Koko, Warri North Local Government Area, Delta State.

Chief Executive Officer of the group, a one-time cocaine addict, Deaconess Julie Park, said:
"I will be running it with the support of well-meaning individuals, the church community and international organizations."

I sold all my property, stayed under the bridge
According to Mrs. Park, "I underwent rehabilitation as a deviant about 10 years. I was once addicted to cocaine. I sold all my property in the process and consequently found myself under a bridge in Lagos until I got rehabilitated, and about the same time I, too, began to rehabilitate others.

Two-phased reintegration
"The rehabilitation will be in two stages. The first stage will last for six months when the inmates will be taught the word of God. We will use the word of God to replace what they were doing before they came into the centre.

"The second stage is the training stage when they will be taught the trade of their choices and graduate to become useful entrepreneurs," she added.

Answer to prayers
A member of the Board of Trustees, Mr. Gbubemi Otumara, said, "The presence of David Refuge Care Foundation in Koko will facilitate general development in the area.

"It is an indication that God has heard the prayers of the people of the area and I am persuaded that God will bless the CEO, trustees and the addicts, who will be receiving rehabilitation, counselling and training in the center."

Pastor Jinadu performs inauguration
The center was officially opened by Pastor Buki Jinadu, project coordinator of Lagos-based Wellspring Rehabilitation Center, where Park, herself, was rehabilitated, over a decade ago.

Jinadu however, advised the villagers to "fear, respect God and love your neighbours as you love yourselves."

The trailer bearing a container failed break few minutes away from the bridge, our driver noticed it and increased his speed in other to avoid the trailer, but unfortunately the trailer was at a more higher speed, getting to the top of the bridge it rammed into our bus and a smaller car in front...hitting it twice and pushing it towards the edge, I was seated at the front ooo...the front side of the bus was compressed, I thought i've lost my legs, I pulled and pulled my legs and it came out....
I jumped to the back and jumped out through the broken window(how i did that without any assistance still beats me), thank God too the container it was carrying didn't fall on the bus, that would have been it, we were whiskers away from the river, another hit by the trailer would have sent the bus tumbling inside the river but God said no, Mercy said NO, I was saved, unscratched, I was just crying when I looked at how close we were to death, road safety officials rushed down with some other life savers, they were fully on ground to pack bodies but were surprised that there was not even a single one, 'Corper stop crying and thank God ooo' they said, though still in shock and traumatised am more amazed how much God loves me, to Him be all the glory forever more in Jesus name. Amen!"

Understanding God's Call To Love

Posted: 19 Jul 2017 12:11 AM PDT

Brother Abdul pastors a small church in northern Nigeria. Once a radical Muslim, Abdul met Christ when he was infiltrating a church to terrorize Christians. He now serves in a heavily Muslim area so he can share Christ with them. Because of his witness, his eldest son was murdered and his home burned to the ground.

But he and his family continue their work because God has given them love for their persecutors; so he shows them God's love in tangible ways, like giving goats cover children's school fees, and their hearts are gradually opening to the Gospel.

When Jesus told his disciples in Matthew 28:19, "go therefore and make disciples of all nations," He was passing on the mission of John 3:16, "For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life." In essence, Jesus was saying to His disciples, "I so love the world, that I am giving them you, so that whoever believes in Me will not perish but have everlasting life."

Going can be uncomfortable. It may even lead to hardship. But if Jesus was willing to undergo hardship, shouldn't we be also?

1 John 4:8 tells us "whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love."

God is very serious about His love for the world. So serious, in fact, that throughout history when His people have not heeded His command, He moves in the earth so His people come face to face with the lost; so the lost can come to know His love.

Consider the Early Church; many of them were enjoying the fellowship and care of the Christian community in Jerusalem and other enclaves. Roman persecution thrust them out, scattering them far and wide; and Christianity spread rapidly.

In 16th century, King Louis XV persecuted Protestants in France in an effort to eradicate them from the nation. About half a million believers fled, relocating throughout Europe, South Africa, and even North America. That diaspora helped lead to the sharing of Christ on this continent, helping establish North America as a beacon of hope and a place from which the Gospel has been spread for many years.

God still desires for the whole world to experience His love. When He sees His people worshipping in comfort and ease while across the world others are dying without His love; in His love He shakes things up.

In the shakings, God wants us see through His lens of love. We have to set aside our ethnic lens; our political lens, even our religious lens, and see as God sees.

When students riot on campus or turmoil embroils a community, out of fear, rejection or anger, we must see through His lens of love. God wants people to know they are completely accepted by Him, so He is bringing them to our attention.

When tens of thousands of people flee to the U.S. illegally, we must look through His lens of love. God wants them to know their Savior, so He is bringing them to us!

When Muslim radicals rampage with violent hatred and bring their threats to our doorstep, we must understand through His lens of love. God wants them to be free from hate and bondage, so He is bringing them to us.

I know all these issues are complex and must be addressed on multiple levels. But the first and greatest command to disciples of Jesus Christ is love. The Apostle John tells us "whoever lives in love, lives in God, and God in him." (1 John 4:16) That tells us anything not done in love, is not done in God. Without love, every effort we make will fall flat and may do damage. Responding in godly love, however, has power to transform lives and situations.

God's command to "go therefore and make disciples of all nations" is still relevant today. When we don't move in His timing; in His love He brings the nations to us.

It is easy to get discouraged and even fearful as we consider circumstances in our nation and world. But God is up to something – God is up to love. And He is still calling His people into that great plan.

Crossing racial, cultural, socio-economic, or even emotional barriers to share God's love can seem scary. But the Apostle John, who stood up against Roman oppression and religious persecution in his day states emphatically "there is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear." (1 John 4:18). Instead of fear, let God's love penetrate your heart with compassion for those who are living life and facing eternity with Him. Despair and hopelessness cause them to act out in ways that make them seem unapproachable at times. But they are dying for love.

Like God told Joshua, as he was stepping into Moses shoes, as leader of Israel, "Be strong and courageous. Do not be terrified; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go." As God's people step into His shoes of love to lead people out of darkness into His glorious light, God will be with us.

Brother Abdul has embraced God's call to love and His admonition to be courageous; and over time He is seeing even Muslims won to Christ.

Is God calling you to take His love to another country? Will you go?

Is God prompting you to share His love tangibly in your community? When will you start?

Is God telling you to befriend a hard-to-love neighbor or co-worker for the sake of the Gospel? Will you respond?

When I was in graduate school a group of students started ministering in a low-income area known for its crime and poverty. I was busy working full time and going to school full time, so I really did not want to get involved. But I obeyed the prompting of the Lord and went to check it out. The very first night God filled my heart with love for the people in that community. For the next seven years I served in that student ministry, mentoring kids and loving the adults. We saw people receive Jesus and be set free from addictions. We saw kids who lived in a community of dropouts, graduate from high school and even go to college. We saw God completely transform that neighborhood. The time I spent sharing the love of Jesus there was the most joyful and fulfilling time of my week. Somehow I had time to continue a full-time job, complete two graduate degrees AND serve that community. God made a way. On top of that, my faith had never been so alive.

James 2:17 tells us that, "faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead." Likewise IJohn 3: 18 says "let us not love with words or tongue but with actions and truth."

God's greatest commandment is love. He is shaking up the world so the lost can experience His great love. Now its time for the Church to be His vessel of love to the least, the last, the lost and even the scary!

True Love! Couple forced apart as teens by religious parents finally get married 70 years later | Mr Olumide's Blog

Posted: 18 Jul 2017 09:27 PM PDT

Two childhood sweethearts who were torn apart in their teens have finally tied the knot - 70 years later.

Ed Sellers, 88, fell for Katie Smith, 89, aged 14 when she moved into the house next door to his in the early 1940s.

He asked her out with a handwritten note and they courted or three years but the relationship ended when Katie's strict religious parents banned them from going on dates.

She moved to another town and they met new partners, both getting married in 1946 and living happy lives.

But despite having no contact for seven decades, they never forgot each other.

After their spouses passed away, the long-lost lovers reconnected and over the course of 18 months, slowly rekindled their romance.

On Sunday, retired truck driver Ed and former seamstress Katie - both of whom are great grandparents - tied the knot.

The elderly lovebirds said their vows while sitting in rocking chairs because they wouldn't be able to stand long enough, surrounded by family and friends.
Katie's granddaughter Stefanie Helsel, 35, said:
"The only reason their relationship ended all those years ago was because her parents were extremely strict."Ed wanted to take her to the movies but it absolutely wasn't allowed"They ended it because it couldn't progress."When they came back together it was natural."There was never any awkwardness. My grandmother said there was never a moment where it felt like there was ever any gap in time."She said it really feels as though everything has fallen into place."It is wonderful that they have found each other again."
Ed was married to wife Dot for 67 years and had two sons, while Katie was married to husband Cecil, a war vet, for 54 and had three children.

They say they were both "in love" - but tragically in 2000, Cecil died of cancer and four years ago, Dot passed away from Alzheimer's.

It wasn't until 2015 that grief-stricken Ed decided to track Katie down.

How Blac Chyna plans 'to destroy' the Kardashians using secrets Rob Kardashian told her | Mr Olumide's Blog

Blac Chyna is planning to destroy the Kardashians by revealing dirty secrets Rob leaked to her.According to Heat magazine,s friend said
"The whole family underestimated Chyna. They're expecting her to go away, but she's lining up all kinds of schemes that could have a terrible impact on the family, and their brand as a whole,"
According to the insider, Rob blabbed to her about everything from the family's surgery secrets through to their most toe-curling scandals.

However, she may have to be careful with that because of the $1million non-disclosure agreement that she signed when she first hooked up with Rob.

That came to light when US network ABC approached Kim Kardashian for a comment, and she reportedly replied by having her lawyers send a copy of the document that had been signed by Chyna.

Kim reportedly blames her little sister Kylie Jenner for stealing rapper Tyga from Chyna years ago.

According to the source, Kylie is equally scathing of Kim, blaming her for 'belittling' Rob so much that, "his low confidence made him an easy target for Chyna".

Khloe apparently blames herself, while Kim's raging because their mum Kris Jenner is picking up the bill for Rob's defence.

Madonna attempts to block auction of Tupac prison break-up letter and “personally worn panties” | Mr Olumide's Blog

Posted: 18 Jul 2017 08:57 PM PDT

Madonna is trying to stop the auction of a handwritten break-up letter from Tupac Shakur, her "personally worn panties", and a note in which she called Whitney Houston and Sharon Stone "horribly mediocre".

The singer filed a request in New York Supreme Court for a temporary restraining order against New York auction house Gotta Have It Collectibles to halt the sale, due to start on Wednesday.

She said in court documents that she only found out about the auction in the press and accused her former friend and art consultant ,Darlene Lutz, of betraying her "in an outrageous effort to obtain my possessions without my knowledge or consent."

In response, a representative for the auction house and Lutz said Madonna's effort to stop the sale was "a completely baseless and meritless action," and they would challenge her claims in court.

In the letter dated January 1995 and written to Madonna by Tupac while he was in prison for sexual assault, the rapper said he ended their romance because he felt that dating a white woman could jeopardise his career.
For you to be seen with a black man wouldn't in any way jeopardise your career, if anything it would make you seem more open and exciting," he wrote.
"But for me, at least in my previous perception I felt due to my 'image' I would be letting down half of the people who made me what I thought I was. I never meant to hurt you."

Bobrisky disgraced by Texas based hairstylist ,says his hair is ''dirty, short, dandruff infested | Mr Olumide's Blog

Posted: 18 Jul 2017 08:27 PM PDT

Bobrisky has been disgraced by a  Houston, Texas based hairstylist ,@Lexclusive on Instagram who accused the cross-dresser of not paying for her services after she braided his hair which she called "dirty" and "dandruff infested" short hair. She took to Snapchat to call him out ,writing

"I had to take his hair off and the glue used for his frontal looked like something that had been there for six months. His scalp was dirty. His head and ears are disgusting. I took his hair hair off and I was just disgusted taking off the rat's nest on his head. His hair is short. After taking out the braids, he said he wanted to wash his hair for 20 mins but comes back 3 hours later.

His hair is still dirty and the glue was all over and my brother had to eventually go and buy alcohol from the closet store. Keep in mind that I bought alcohol, the hair and beads that that man put on his head and he never paid me back for any of those things.
"After I slaved on his scalp trying to remove the glue, I start braiding and his dandruff made the braids look shitty. Words can't explain how dirty his scalp was. He was screaming while I was trying to even braid his hair, saying it's hurting him. He doesn't look the same in person. It's not as white as his pictures, his skin is even and red all over. His beard is protruding and it looks like he tried to shave over and over and it's bloody, bumpy. I spent six hours because doing his hair is like doing the hair of a child.

"After staying there waiting and taking out his rat's nest, he was basically yapping about how people do things for free because he used to promote. I was like that wasn't our agreement. Bobrisky is very disrespectful, dramatic, selfish and conceited as fuck. This man is fooling you all, he's already ugly on Snapchat but in person, bruh it's crazy. His attitude is disgusting. At the end of the day, I have to say be careful because [people do scams and this man scammed the fuck out of him. And don't use bleaching cream, ever."

Media owners stifle national interest in news coverage – Iredia

Posted: 18 Jul 2017 01:26 PM PDT

Toni Iredia, former Director-General, Nigerian Television Authority, NTA, has said that the interests of media owners was affecting reporters' desire to promote national interests in their reportage.

"Media owners usually have their interests and insist that such interests must be projected even if it is against the national interest," Mr. Iredia said on Tuesday in Jos, in an address at the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) 2017 Summit.

The summit has the theme "Broadcast Content Development and Peaceful Coexistence".

Mr. Iredia, currently the Head of Mass Communication Department at the Nasarawa State University, Keffi, regretted that media owners had often dictated what media managers sent out for public consumption "whether good or bad".

"A major headache in the broadcast industry today is hate speech. Such speeches are promoted by the proprietors of media outfits; unfortunately, such individuals and groups are so powerful that even regulating agencies like the NBC cannot sanction them.

"For instance, whatever the Minister of Information directs the NTA news content managers to do, they must obey because they have no other option," he said.

The broadcaster advised media managers to respect diversity and play up areas of common interest so as to promote mutual affection and peaceful coexistence.

Mr. Iredia particularly urged the broadcast media to project inter-ethnic marriages so as to boost such mutual affection and encourage Nigerians to see and accept each other as one.

He also called for a sustained action plan for peace building, and emphasised the need for intermediary channels with focus on peace messages.

Mr. Iredia frowned at a situation where politicians set agenda for the media, and urged journalists to be bold enough to carry out their statutory role of agenda setting.

"Journalists should not allow themselves to be pushed around. They must strive, as professionals, to determine public discourse so as to determine the path of national growth.

"The newsmen must avoid a situation where politicians set the agenda and only use the media to propagate it," he said.

He commended the NBC for the summit which he said would educate broadcast stations on what Nigerians expected of them.

Eugenia Abu, former NTA Executive Director (Programmes) in a paper titled "Producing and Managing Broadcast Content in Critical Times", called for improved funding to enable the media discharge its role.

She urged media proprietors to allow professionals to discharge their statutory functions, and so as to promote national growth and development.

Mrs. Abu also challenged media owners to ensure prompt payment of salaries to minimise desperation among reporters which had often determined their view and reportage of events.(NAN)

Grieving mum's finds baby son's grave has been dug up tobe shared with another child | Mr Olumide's Blog

A grieving mum was horrified to find her baby son's grave had been dug up so it can be shared with another baby .

Emma Cox, 38, said she was too distressed and tired to remember signing the document allowing Alfie's grave to be shared with another baby.

She had been given the paperwork by hospital staff on the day he was stillborn
Her family visited his grave every week but were shocked to discover all its flowers, decorations and a cross with his name on had been replaced with a plaque with another baby's name on Sunday.

Mrs Cox, a maths teacher from Ashingdon, Essex, said: "I'm so angry and upset.
Looking back at it now I don't think that a grieving parent should be given important documents to sign when you are emotionally unstable or in that situation or if you are made to sign it then it should be revisited a period of time later.

"We were like if somebody has phoned us to say, 'as you're aware you've signed this form', we would have been like, 'sorry, we don't remember this, we don't want this and what can we do to stop this happening'.I'm terrified of going to the cemetery next and the other family will have decorated Alfie's grave - with no idea that Alfie is there.
"We just don't know what to do. I almost want to dig him up myself."
