MAN SENTENCED TO 9YRS 6 MONTHS FOR SMOKING INSIDE PLANE | Mr Olumide's Blog

Posted: 28 May 2017 04:13 AM PDT

A man who lit a cigarette in a plane's toilet has had his jail sentence extended to nine years and six months.

John Cox triggered the Monarch Airbus' fire alarm when he discarded the cigarette in the plane toilet's bin.

And the aircraft captain issued a mayday call and considered an emergency landing when the crew struggled to extinguish the resulting fire.

Cox, of Coates Road, Kidderminster, pleaded guilty to arson being reckless as to whether life was endangered and was jailed for four years and six months at Birmingham Crown Court in January.

However, the Court of Appeal has ruled the sentence was too lenient and jailed Cox, 46, for nine years and six months.

The plane flying from Birmingham to Sharm el-Sheikh in Egypt and was 33,000 feet in the air at the time of the incident, in August 2015, reports Metro.co.uk.

A smoke detector first went off an hour into the flight and the fire, in a different toilet, was put out by the crew.

The captain then issued a strongly worded warning about the 'moronic' conduct of smoking on board – before a second incident a few hours later.

Cox was detained by Egyptian authorities when the plane landed and arrested on his return to the UK.

The court heard he had been drinking before and during the flight, and was abusive and aggressive to other passengers and the crew.

The captain, who had flown for Monarch for 20 years, said he had never experienced an incident with so much potential danger.

Lady Justice Sharp said: 'The level of culpability and potential for harm is at the highest level.

14 year old house maid attempts killing master with rat poison(Photo) | Mr Olumide's Blog

Posted: 28 May 2017 04:08 AM PDT

A 14-year-old maid allegedly tried to poison her master because she was rebuked. Mr Nasiru Akinlosotu, 63, a former medicine store operator, escaped from death after Mary Akinnifesi put rat poison in his meal .

She was said to have taken the action against her master because she was rebuked  for messing up the living room with water a night before she was directed to prepare the dinner by the wife of the victim.

Not knowing that the suspect was nursing a grudge against Akinlosotun, the wife, Sikirat, as usual, directed the maid to prepare beans for dinner and to serve the husband before she returned  from her shop that night.

Sikirat is a primary school teacher but  has a shop where she retires to every working day after school hours. Seeing that as an opportunity to have her own pound of flesh, the suspect allegedly prepared the dinner and decided to add  the poison her madam had bought to rid the house of rats to her master's  food.

Sunday Vanguard gathered that  Mary who was engaged by the victim's wife, had stayed with the couple for two years  and had never shown such a behaviour until that night. The victim, who, as  gathered, returned home that evening, asked for his food almost immediately he entered the house and the maid put  the poisoned food before her hungry master.

It was learnt that the unsuspecting master who, while mixing the beans with spoon, perceived some offensive smell from it still put a spoon in his mouth only to spit it out almost immediately following the awful taste.

The maid was invited and questioned but she lied that she only added spice that will give the beans aroma. But not satisfied with her explanation, the master queried further that what he perceived from the food was different from what he was told.

After much threat, the maid reportedly confessed to what she did  and the master raised the alarm and invited neighbours to hear the confession by their maid.

Narrating how he escaped death, Akinlosotu described it as an act of God. He explained that he had no inclination that the suspect could go to such an extent as to want to kill him because he rebuked her for being careless by pouring water on the floor in the sitting room.

"I had even put a spoon of the beans in my mouth and about to swallow it when I discovered  offensive odour and  unpleasant taste from the food", the victim said. "I immediately vomited the beans and called Mary to ask why the beans was smelling in such a manner and the taste  was awful but she claimed she added spice".

He said her explanation was not convincing hence he raised the alarm and invited neighbours.

"It was in the course of interrogation by neighbours that the housemaid confessed that she crushed  the medicine meant for rat that was bought few days ago by my wife and poured it into my own share of the food", he narrated. "She later stated that she decided to add the poison into my food in retaliation for the correction which I made  when she committed an offense in the house. "After the confession, I contacted my wife by phone and narrated the incident to her. "Upon her arrival in the house, she decided to report the matter at Yaba Divisional Police Station in Ondo town for further investigation into the matter".

The victim, however, said he or his family would not press  charges against the suspect.

"Since God has delivered me from death, why should I fight again?  I have left everything to God".

Meanwhile, Ondo State Police Command image maker Femi Joseph said Akinlosotu had applied formally to say he was not  interested in pressing charges against the suspect. Joseph said the victim informed the police that he had changed his mind and would not want to proceed with the court case because the suspect is his relation.

"This is our predicament: Once the complainant says he is not interested in pressing charges, the state is handicapped because the court will dismiss the case when there is no complainant", he said.

Joseph quoted the victim as saying the reason he lodged the complaint with the police was to expose the devilish activities of housemaids and the need for people to always be vigilant when dealing with them.

Teen cheats death in Manchester Arena terror attack thanks to a mistake | Mr Olumide's Blog

Posted: 28 May 2017 04:08 AM PDT

A girl of 15 who lost her mum in the Manchester attack says she survived because she misread a text telling her where to meet up.

Charlotte Fawell took a wrong turn after following mum Wendy's instructions to meet her outside Monday's Ariana Grande concert.Primary school teacher Wendy, 50, died in the blast while Charlotte — who was 50 yards from the explosion — survived.

Charlotte told The Sun on Sunday:

"I read the text wrong. If I'd have gone to the right door, I might not be here now. But I took a door on the left instead.I was walking out, a massive bang went off and the entire arena shook. I knew people were dead.I was ringing and ringing my mum, hoping she'd been knocked unconscious and she might wake up and answer — but she never did."

In a furious rant at bomber Salman Abedi, she said:

"How would you feel if you were my age and you had no mum? She promised to be here forever and now she isn't — because of you."

Charlotte, who was at the gig with boyfriend Lee Davis, 16, did not find out her mum was dead until Wednesday.

Important Things True Christians Should Stop Doing | Mr Olumide's Blog

Posted: 28 May 2017 04:08 AM PDT

by Charisma News
Before you read the following, I want you to know that these are things I am guilty of, too. Like I tell my church all the time: "I'm preaching to myself!" When it comes to following Christ, we are all a work in progress.

For those who know me, you are familiar with my personality, so you will be able to decipher my tone and picture me smiling as you read this. For those of you who don't know me, try to picture me smiling as you read on.

So, go ahead and laugh, love, and perhaps even whisper, "Ouch."

And just so there's no confusion, the word Christian is defined as someone who professes Christ and embraces His teachings. Not only are the four gospels about Him, the entire Bible is Him because He is the Living Word.

Here is a list of the things I believe Christ followers should cease and desist in their lives:

Quit expecting the world to like you.
Jesus said it would hate you (John 15:18-27, Matthew 10:22).

Quit throwing your own teammates under the bus.
We're called to build each other up, not tear each other down. In fact, Jesus said that our love for each other proves to the world that we are really His true disciples (John 13:35, 1 Thessalonians 5:11).

Quit gossiping.
This includes sharing "juicy prayer requests" with no intention of actually praying (Psalms 34:13, Psalms 101:5, Ephesians 4:29).

Quit replacing prayer with "good vibes" and "positive thoughts".
No. Just no. Prayer moves the hand of God and the hand of God moves the world. Prayer is much more effective than making someone feel warm and fuzzy inside. By the way, I'm not saying positive thoughts and good vibes are wrong (and they do make you feel good), I'm just saying prayer trumps them both (2 Corinthians 1:11, Philippians 1:19, Ephesians 6:18, James 5:16).

Quit saying repentance isn't necessary.
It is. Jesus said so. And just so you know, there are 53 references to repentance in the New Testament. Now go repent (Matthew 5:17, Acts 3:19, Romans 2:5, 2 Peter 3:9, 1 John 1:9).

Quit saying that the "portions of the Bible that make you feel uncomfortable" are irrelevant and nothing more than dated writings.
All 66 books, 1,189 chapters, and 31,102 verse are the inspired Word of God. So the next time you think about throwing out the Old Testament, just remember that Jesus quoted it numerous times in all four gospels (John 1:1-4, John 1:14, 2 Timothy 3:16).

Quit expecting unbelievers/non-Christians to understand the Bible and/or to live like Christ.
It's hard enough for Christians to live like Christ and it's impossible to do so without Him (until the blinders are removed) (2 Corinthians 4:4, 2 Corinthians 5:17, Galatians 5:24-25).

Quit acting like the Great Commission
(Go into all the world to preach the gospel) is the Great Suggestion. It's a command. Go already (Matthew 28:19, Mark 16:15).

Quit thinking that it's OK to be silent about your faith.
Yes, it's just as important to represent Jesus by how we live, but someone can't respond to the Good News without hearing it … and they can't hear it if no one opens their mouth (Matthew 10:27, Romans 10:14-15).

Quit being more passionate about your political affiliation than your relationship with Jesus.
If 99 percent of what you post on social media consists of bashing government officials and presidential candidates—you're doing more damage than good (Romans 13:1-7, 2 Chronicles 7:14).

Quit your legalistic rants, knee-jerk reactions, and judgmentalism.
You're turning people off. You're making good news bad news. Jesus befriended sinners. Try it and great things will happen (Mark 2:17, Luke 5:27-32, 1 Timothy 1:15-16).

Quit calling yourself a Christian if you believe there are multiple paths that lead to salvation.

Jesus said that He's the only way to heaven. If you don't believe Him, you're not a Christ follower (John 14:6, 1 John 2:4).

Quit living like everybody's going to heaven and nobody's going to hell.

Jesus died so the whole world could be saved, but He said the path to heaven is narrow and few find it. And for the record, He preached more about hell than heaven…
 #LeadLikeJesus (Matthew 7:13-14).

Quit acting like you're better than those who don't know Jesus.

You're not (Luke 18:19, Acts 10:34, Romans 2:11-13).

Quit criticizing loving believers who take a biblical stand for godly morals and Christian values (that are crystal clear in Scripture)

Just because you're too much of a wimp to take a stand yourself. Jesus didn't call us to be politically correct. Develop some backbone. And yes, I said wimp. And yes, I will repent for calling you a wimp (Acts 4-6).

Quit being a jerk, period.

Whatever your position is (on anything), if you can't communicate it in love, you're a clanging cymbal and your message is worthless. So yeah, I probably shouldn't have called you a wimp in No. 16 (1 Corinthians 13).

Quit defending sin.

Quit hating sinners. These are equally important. Oh yeah, and lose your critical lens (Psalm 97:10, Matthew 22:37-39).

Quit using the phrase "he who's without sin cast the first stone" out of context.

The next thing Jesus said was, "Go and sin no more" (John 8:1-11).

Prince William and Kate’s housekeeper quits after work becomes ‘too demanding’ | Mr Olumide's Blog

Prince William and Kate's top housekeeper has quit as the job is too demanding.

Sadie Rice, 35, packed in her £35,000 job when asked to move with them from Norfolk's Anmer Hall to Kensington Palace.A source at the Queen's nearby Sandringham Estate told The UK Sun

"Sadie's a hard worker but the job's demands got too much, even for her."They wanted her to spend more time at Kensington Palace and her work was increasing all the time. She wasn't having a normal life outside work. Sadie's serving her notice and it seems nothing will change her mind. It's their loss."

The maid's departure after less than two years is a blow to the royal couple as kids George, three, and Charlotte, two, liked her.

She was responsible for cleaning, laundry, shopping and some cooking at ten-bedroom Anmer Hall, where William, 34, and Kate, 35, spend two-thirds of their time.

They will relocate to London's Kensington Palace to become full-time royals when he quits his air ambulance job this autumn.William and Kate have been hiring more staff as they prepare to move to London and step up duties.

The Sandringham insider added: "They will regret losing Sadie as the right people aren't easy to find."

Ambode’s wife committed sacrilege and should apologise —African Church Bishop | Mr Olumide's Blog

Posted: 28 May 2017 03:48 AM PDT

The Rt. Rev. Michael Adeyemi is the head of the African Church, Ifako Diocese, and the boss of the Presiding Chaplain of the Chapel of Christ the Light, Ikeja, Venerable Femi Taiwo, who was sacked by the Lagos State Government for allegedly disrespecting the wife of the governor, Bolanle. In this  interview with SAMSON FOLARIN of Punch, Adeyemi states the position of the church.

What do you know about the events that culminated in the sack of Taiwo?

It was on Monday, May 15, that Venerable Taiwo called me that there was a development in the chapel and that he was coming to see me. He came and showed me the sack letter, saying that his appointment had been terminated.
However, before now, there have been some issues in the chapel. He said the governor's wife called him and the chaplain, who was his assistant, to see her. The two of them went there and they had a good interaction. There was no problem.  That (incident) happened in the first week of May.
He said some members of the governing council then called him to know why he went to the First Lady's office and he explained to them that he and his assistant were invited. The council then told him he shouldn't have gone to see her and that he should have allowed them to resolve any issue. The council then asked him and his assistant to write an apology letter, which they did. The governing council said the letter was to assuage the First Lady because she felt she was being challenged and accused of fraternising with a former presiding chaplain. According to Venerable Taiwo, that was the only encounter they had before the Monday 15th sack letter came.

You mean the 24-hour ultimatum was truly stated in the sack letter?

I was here (in my office) when he (Venerable Taiwo) called me that they asked him to pack out within 24 hours and that he was even told that the governor's wife would not like to hear that he was still being seen around. Then we started wondering what could have happened? Somebody that has a wife and kids, and you asked him to go within 24 hours? Where do you expect him to go?
This is very ungodly! It is a sacrilege for someone who happens to be a Christian. Even when Fashola (former Lagos State Governor) was there, despite being a Muslim, he never took such a decision. Now that the governor (Ambode) is a Christian, which we all fought for, he is the one taking ungodly decisions. We have written letters to CAN and CCN, including the Methodist Church where the Venerable Taiwo's assistant came from, that if Mrs. Ambode, is trying to cause divide and rule among the Christians, she should go ahead. We are not afraid of anything.
We understand that Mrs. Ambode is also a pastor in the Redeemed Christian Church of God, let her go and ask the RCCG Pastor, Enoch Adeboye, whether what she did was the right thing to do to a minister of God. It is ungodly and very sad.

When the church heard that the sack was about anointing oil, what was the general reaction of the church?

Anointing oil is a personal thing. Nobody has the right or power to force anybody to take anointing oil. It is even ungodly to say a worshipper should take it by force. Even Holy Communion is voluntary; there is no protocol when it comes to that. When you are in the House of God, rich or poor, old or young, you are all equal before God. If Ambode will recall, anytime she comes for service, she will be the one to sit in the front and she has the right and privilege of going to the stage first if she is interested.

What did the Venerable tell you happened at the service that day?

I have tried to confirm from Taiwo what really happened on that Sunday and he said the service held as usual. There were three of them who stood to minister the anointing oil and few of them who wished to receive the oil came forward. Ambode's wife later joined the queue. And she even participated in the thanksgiving service.

But why was she angry that day? The church members said she left in annoyance.

From my findings, her point of annoyance was that she was not recognised. She was not duly recognised and I asked that at what point was she expecting that recognition? I was told that Venerable Taiwo mounted the pulpit to deliver the sermon, she expected him to recognise and welcome her to the service. To some extent, I agree with her because the Bible says we should give honour to whom it is due.

Was that enough for a sacking?

That did not call for a sacking. The procedure they adopted was ungodly. If she felt offended because of recognition, there is a procedure. She could have called the chapel members and the management body and let them query him and ask why he didn't recognise the governor's wife. And then the management body would make their recommendation to the governing council. And the council will then forward their decision to the government. That is the way it should be done. But they didn't do it.
Whatsoever it is, our own point is that the right procedure was not followed. Government has the right to employ and the right to sack. But if you are now sacking and asking the person to leave within 24 hours, that is too much.
As a church, we are demanding apology from the governor and the government of Lagos State. We demanded that we wanted a Christian governor. We came out en masse and supported the political ambition of Ambode. We told our members to go out and vote for him. Unfortunately, people have started mocking us.
What has happened is a sacrilege and Mr. Ambode should know that. We have been appreciating his efforts in Lagos. Why will he allow himself to get involved in such a trivial issue that can spoil his public image? You are the governor and the image of Lagos State and the father of all. When any report comes to you, you should dissect that report and know what steps and action to take.

Has CAN tried to mediate in this matter?

Yes, CAN and CCN have been trying to do some underground work to ensure that the matter did not get to this level. But now that it has got to this point, we have served them letters and I am sure they know what to do.

Selfie shows battered face of teen girl who killed herself days after she was assaulted by boyfriend | Mr Olumide's Blog

Posted: 28 May 2017 03:48 AM PDT

A student took a selfie of her batteredface, just days before she took her own life after suffering abuse at the hands of her boyfriend.

Emily Drouet, 18, from Glasgow, was found dead at her halls at Aberdeen University on March 18 last year – following weeks of furious rows with brute Angus Milligan, 21.The image shows Emily's swollen face after a vicious assault – just seven days before she killed herself.

The law student took the selfie and sent it to an old school friend to record what had happened, the Daily Record reported.

Milligan, 21, pleaded guilty last Tuesday to three charges of assaulting Emily in the months leading up to her death.Emily's distraught family released the image to show their daughter's shocking transformation from a promising student to a bullied teenager.

They believe Milligan groomed Emily into a twisted sexual relationship, controlling her with violence and threats.

Her mum Fiona, 45, told the Sunday Mail:

"If she had never met Angus Milligan, she would be alive today.
"Emily was naive, she was innocent. She saw the world through good eyes. She was fun-loving, kind and smart and she never saw how beautiful she was, on the inside or the outside. She was a virgin when she went to university and I'm proud to say that.
"Within six months, that man destroyed our daughter and wrecked our lives. He's just complete evil.""I want to jump inside the picture and cuddle her. I want to tell her that she could have spoken to me, that she could have asked for help. We would have been there."

They split after she cheated on him and Milligan attacked her in her flat on March 10 last year.

The pair got together again but Milligan dumped her on March 16 after another row.

Milligan confessed in court to choking Emily, from Glasgow, and sending her texts branding her a "slut", "w***e", "c****, "b***h" and "freak".

Emily's mum Fiona and her husband Germain have called for him to be locked up.

They also believe the university could have done more to prevent their daughter's death.

CRISIS BREWS IN ONDO JUDICIARY AS CJ SITS TIGHT AFTER EXPIRY OF HER TENURE | Mr Olumide's Blog

Posted: 28 May 2017 03:38 AM PDT

By Dayo Johnson, Akure

CRISIS is brewing in  Ondo State judiciary over the alleged continued stay in office by Justice Temitayo Osoba as acting Chief Judge of the state  allegedly in violation of the1999 Constitution (as amended) .

A human right lawyer, Femi Emmanuel-Emodamori, in a letter addressed to  Osoba and copied to Governor Rotimi Akeredolu, the  NJC, the state House of Assembly and the Nigerian Bar Association, NBA, said that Section 271(5) of the Constitution does not allow anybody to be in acting capacity as Chief Judge of a state for more than three months. He pointed out: "Since Justice Osoba's appointment has not been confirmed by the state Assembly and the NJC since she was sworn-in on 23rd January, 2017 by former Governor Olusegun Mimiko, it is illegal for her to continue to breach the Constitution by occupying the position".

Emmanuel-Emodamori  therefore asked  Akeredolu  to do the needful within seven days. According to him allowing her to continue beyond the period prescribed by the Constitution was unacceptable. While the acting Chief Judge could not be reached for her comment, his aide, who spoke  anonymously, said  she would not dignify the alleged petitioner with a response.

He pointed out that the Chief Judge would respond when the appropriate authorities needed clarifications on the matter. Meanwhile, it was learnt that the crisis in the state House of Assembly was responsible for the delay in the confirmation or otherwise of the acting CJ. The state governor, according to sources close to the Government House,  Akure, is expected to forward her name to the House  any moment from now following the resolution of the over three month leadership crisis in the hallowed chamber.

Married Woman Arrested For Selling 4 Of Her 5 Children | Mr Olumide's Blog

Posted: 28 May 2017 03:33 AM PDT

The police have arrested a housewife and detained her at Area M Command, Idimu for allegedly selling four out of her five children to different people without the knowledge of her husband.

The wife simply identified as Vicky was arrested following a petition by her husband to the Area Commander, Assistant Commissioner of Police, ACP Austines Akika.

Police sources said the suspect was selling the children one after the other and successfully sold four, remaining just a child. What is her mission?

According to PM Express, she lied to her husband that she took the kids to their relation until the husband later discover she has sold them to some undisclosed buyers.

The secret came to the open recently after she sold the last child for N400,000 and her husband was tipped by their neighbour who knew about it.

Thus, the husband reported to the police and she was arrested and detained at the Command Cell.

She was said to have already confessed to the police while efforts were already being made to rescue the children and arrest the buyers.

However, investigations revealed the illegal sales without her husband knowing happened because the man, who rented an apartment in Idimu area of Lagos, was working outside Lagos, where he stays during the week and only return home weekend or monthly.

It was gathered while the husband was away, the woman plotted to be selling the children and deceived her husband they were taken to their relations.

It was learnt that the husband's efforts to locate the relations where the wife claimed she took those children to was fruitless.

This makes the man to be suspicious before her acts were finally exposed.

As at the time of this report, the wife was still detained at the cell.

Police detectives are going after the buyers.

Kidnappers demand N1bn ransom for four abducted Lagos pupils | Mr Olumide's Blog

Posted: 28 May 2017 03:18 AM PDT

Kidnappers of six pupils of Igbonla Model College, Epe, Lagos State, have contacted some parents of the victims, demanding N1bn ransom to release them.

SUNDAY PUNCH learnt that the parents were contacted on Saturday and allowed to briefly speak with their children. While two of them were asked to pay N400m each, another two were told to raise N100m per child.

They were reportedly told to meet with the school authorities and the state government to raise the money.

However, details of ransoms demanded from the remaining parents had yet to be ascertained by our correspondent as of the time of filing this report.

The gunmen had gained entry into the school premises at about 6am on Thursday through the creek at the back of the college and headed for the boys' hostel after breaking the school fence.

They broke the hostel doors, seized 10 senior secondary school pupils and led them to the shore where their boat was parked.

After profiling their family backgrounds, four pupils were released, while the assailants whisked away the remaining six pupils identified as Peter Jonah, Isiaq Rahmon, Adebayo George, Judah Agbausi, Pelumi Philips and Farouq Yusuf.

It was reported that the gunmen had written the school authorities three days before the incident, informing them of the attack.

They made good their threat in the dawn after policemen and soldiers, who repelled an attack around 8pm on Wednesday, left the school.

A parent said,

"They allowed me to speak with my son. I asked him if he was fine and he said yes. They asked me to meet with the school authorities to raise N400m for my child to be released."

Another parent of one of the pupils said they begged the kidnappers that they had only menial jobs when they demanded the same amount.

"I said N400m was much, but one of them told me not to worry myself. He said I should meet with the school authorities and the government. I was also allowed to speak with my child. I spoke with two other parents and they said they were asked to pay N100m each," the parent said.

When contacted on the telephone, the school Vice Principal, Academic, who did not disclose his name, said, "I'm sorry. I cannot volunteer information for you. I'm not permitted to speak to you. Thank you."

The Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Olarinde Famous-Cole, said the police had yet to be informed about the ransoms, adding that investigations were ongoing.

"You come up to me like that? Who the f*** do you think you are?"

The boy rips something of a tap and throws it in the teacher's direction and then kicks a garbage bin, which falls over.

He then picks up the bin and empties its contents on the floor.

School principal Kristen Tepper said in a statement the incident had been investigated and "appropriate action by school administration" taken.

I Have Paid For My Mistakes – Lanre Teriba | Mr Olumide's Blog

Posted: 28 May 2017 03:18 AM PDT

Popular gospel artiste, Lanre Teriba aka Atorise, says he has atoned for his past sins and is now more serious with his relationship with God.

Atorise had been the butt of jokes and scandals as many felt that he lived an immoral life despite being a gospel singer.

In a chat with Sunday Scoop, he said, "We are all humans and there is no one that is above mistakes. He without sin should cast the first stone. There were some acts I engaged in which I regret and feel sorry for. But there is nothing I can do about it as I cannot go back in time to change the past. I have apologised to God and my loved ones and they have forgiven me."

Responding to allegations that he is promiscuous, he said, "I had a child out of wedlock and I have apologised to my wife about it and she has forgiven me a long time ago. I don't know why people cannot just forget about the past and move on. Even people who do worse things behind closed doors would come out in public to castigate me. Let the people who have seen me taking women to hotels come out and tell the world. Like I said earlier, there are some things I did before which I am not proud of but that's all in the past now. As long as the people close to me understand me, people can keep saying what they like."

Speaking on how he comes about his songs, he said, "My songs are a product of the Holy Spirit's inspiration. I am nothing but a vessel that is being used to pass messages to people. Sometimes, I like being in quiet environments so I can hear clearly from God. I thank God that I've been able to impact lives through my music. A lot of times, people come to me and tell me how my songs changed their lives, especially when they were facing tough times. I still have a lot I am working on and you would be hearing from me in due course."

HOW HOODLUMS ATTACKED AFIKUYOMI, REMOVED HIS CLOTHES DURING APC LG PRIMARIES | Mr Olumide's Blog

APC LG PRIMARY:HOODLUMS ATTACK SENATOR AFIKUYOMI, REMOVE HIS CLOTHES

Violence erupted midway into the primary election of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to elect chairmanship candidates for the July 22 council polls in Lagos State on Saturday, ending the event abruptly.

Some aggrieved party supporters engaged one another in a free-for-all midway into the election, smashing ballot boxes over allegations of imposition of candidates at the election.

Scores of delegates and others present at the Teslim Balogun Stadium venue fled in different directions as a result of the fracas, even as some were injured.
The Chairman of the Elections Committee, Senator Tokunbo Afikuyomi, was also attacked, with his top taken off by angry supporters who accused him of impartiality as he scampered to safety.

Security officials later forced him out the grip of the angry youths and whisked him away.
Trouble started when some party members in Surulere and Lagos Mainland openly protested against the names of candidates being read out by Afikuyomi for endorsement as consensus candidates.
They alleged that the party leadership was foisting candidates on them and said the decision of the leadership to approve consensus candidates in 18 councils was wrong.
The aggrieved members initially vented their anger through protests, but it later degenerated into fracas between supporters of selected candidates and those who opposed them.

A party faithful, Mr Wale Tokunbo, disclosed shortly before the violence broke out that the substitution of Mr Tajudeen Ajide for the Surulere Local Government Area Chairmanship for another candidate was unjust.
"The removal of Ajide's name for the name of somebody we don't know is not acceptable to us.
"If we talk about democracy, we should be able to practise it. This primary is a sham; we would resist it," he said.

Another party faithful in Mainland Local Government who pleaded anonymity said that party members were surprised at the mention of Yaba Local Government as one of the areas with a consensus candidate at the primary.

He said there were aspirants contesting for the post in the area and that nobody knew of the consensus candidate until they got to the venue.
"What consensus candidates are they talking about? We are just knowing that Yaba is one of them now. This is wrong," he said.
Earlier in his speech, the Chairman of the party, Mr Henry Ajomale, had urged the delegates and other supporters not to be violent.

"I welcome you all to this election and I urge you all conduct yourselves in a peaceful manner.
"We have the information that some people are here to cause trouble. We shouldn't allow them because they are saboteurs," he said.

The names of Mr Toba Oke (Ifako Ijaiye) and Mr Kamal Bashua (Lagos Island East) were among the few candidates out of the 57 endorsed at the primary before violence broke out.

TEACHERS NOW TO WRITE PROFESSIONAL TEACHING EXAMINATION | Mr Olumide's Blog

Posted: 28 May 2017 02:58 AM PDT

The Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN) yesterday said that presentation of certificates and degrees would no longer suffice for teachers' registration.
The TRCN Director, Professional Operations, Dr Steve Nwokeocha, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that teachers would now write professional qualifying examinations.
"Teachers will no longer get registered by mere presentation of their certificates, but they will have to write professional examination.
"Teachers are to resume professional qualifying examinations, and the models are being developed and finalised,'' he said.
Nwokeocha said the council was developing a standard syllabus as a professional body and would present it to stakeholders like National Universities Commission, among others, for validation.
According to him, once it is validated, we will set a date for the examination, and from there henceforth, there will be no registration without an examination.
He said that in 2008, a pilot examination was written and over 50,000 candidates wrote the examination in all states of the federation.
The director said this would be the second edition of the examination, adding that the first was experimental and recorded huge success.
He said that the council collaborated with the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) in the first edition, stressing that it was written in the same manner that JAMB was written.
Nwokeocha said about 25,000 out of the 50,000 teachers that wrote the examination failed and this was reflective of the quality of training that they were getting.
"We had to suspend the pilot examination because the council did not have a syllabus at that time.
"And people asked that a few more things like a model, among others, should be put in place before the examination will be conducted again,'' he said.

He said that the council had done its research and had developed a standard model, syllabus among others.
He added that the examination would be written twice yearly and that the council was making efforts to ensure standard and quality in the system.

Female Corper In Kogi Pays School Fees For 30 Students | Mr Olumide's Blog

Posted: 28 May 2017 02:33 AM PDT

A serving corps member in Kogi State, Oyebimpe Olofin, has paid the school fees of 30 students and distributed over 180 books, including writing materials to some schools in Lokoja.

The move was part of the activities lined up to mark this year's Children Day celebration by Olofin under Omoloye Foundation. While presenting the cash gifts, uniforms and writing materials to the underprivileged students, she noted that every child is a star with adequate investment.

She said, "It is important that as a good citizen of Nigeria, we should help make the child and their parent's dream come true by ensuring that they are in school and not on the street."

"While interacting with these children recently, I realised that some of them want to go to school. Every child is a star in their own way; it all depends on what you invest in them. If you give them something good, they will give something good in return."
Olofin noted that the gifts would encourage the students to see education as the best way to achieve success in life, while calling on relevant stakeholders to help in the campaign to move children off the streets during school hours.

Meanwhile, the Principal of Muslim Community Secondary School, Lokoja, Yakubu Danladi, while lauding the initiative, said some of problems in the society could be traced to poor investment in education by government.

"Most of the children who are supposed to be in school are not in school because of many factors. Sincerely, if these issues are not nipped in the board, things will get out of hand," he said.

PDP Leaders Want Jionathan To Forget His 2019 Ambition | Mr Olumide's Blog

Posted: 28 May 2017 02:08 AM PDT

*Party may concede presidential ticket to the North
*Ekweremadu, Akpabio, others for VP slot
Some leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party are reportedly mounting pressure on ex-President Goodluck Jonathan to shelve his alleged ambition to contest the 2019 presidential election.

It was said that the leaders' advisory was subtly relayed to the ex-President through his supporters who were trying to gauge the opinions of PDP members on the issue.

The party looks likely to concede its presidential ticket to the North irrespective of who, between Ahmed Makarfi and Ali Modu Sheriff, wins the PDP leadership contest at the Supreme Court.

Party sources said Deputy Senate President Ike Ekweremadu, Senate Minority Leader Godswill Akpabio, and some governors are being considered as presidential running mate.

Investigation by The Nation revealed that the party is already repositioning itself for a major battle with the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) for the 2019 elections.

It was gathered that while many party leaders still have a lot of affection for Jonathan for "keeping faith with his transition programme" and want him to have a fresh shot at the presidency, others strongly believe that it will be difficult to sell his candidature to the majority of Nigerian voters.

Based on realistic permutations, some PDP leaders have been mounting pressure on Jonathan to forego his ambition in the interest of the party.

A top source in PDP said: "Although we are awaiting the decision of the Supreme Court on the leadership of our party, we have gone far with our homework.

"A realistic option we have faced is the fact that to win in 2019, we have to retain our presidential ticket in the North. The PDP is still solid in the South-East and in the South-South.

"We have however come to appreciate that conceding the ticket to ex-President Jonathan might not work considering ethnic colouration which beclouded the last presidential election.

"The allegations raised against some key actors in Jonathan's government, including ex-First Lady have made the choice of the ex-President a hard sell."

Responding to a question, he added: "PDP leaders have subtly passed the message to Jonathan.

"We are however leaving the ticket open to the North. We anticipate that some defectors from APC might add more strength to our search for a candidate that can beat to the game.

"We want to try as much as possible to provide alternatives to APC. Of recent, ex-Governor Sule Lamido is the only leader who has come out with his presidential aspiration.

"Even when an attempt was made to enable the Forum of former Ministers to endorse Lamido, it was rejected."

The source listed the Deputy Senate President, Sen. Ike Ekweremadu, the Senate Minority Leader, Sen. Akpabio, and some governors (whose names were not revealed) as some of those being considered for the VP slot.

"Certainly, the PDP will pick its running mate from either the South-East or the South-South.

"Our search team said it is impossible for the party to look forward to the South-West because of the grip of Asiwaju Bola Tinubu and the ongoing consolidation in the zone by APC."

Kidnappers Of 4 Lagos Students Demand N1bn Ransom | Mr Olumide's Blog

Posted: 28 May 2017 01:28 AM PDT

Kidnappers of six pupils of Igbonla Model College, Epe, Lagos, have contacted some parents of the victims, demanding N1bn ransom to release them.

The parents were contacted on Saturday and allowed to briefly speak with their children. While two of them were asked to pay N400m each, another two were told to raise N100m per child.

The parents were reportedly told by the notorious kidnappers to meet with the school authorities and the state government to raise the money.

However, details of ransoms demanded from the remaining parents had yet to be ascertained.

The gunmen had gained entry into the school premises around 6am on Thursday through the creek at the back of the college and headed for the boys' hostel after breaking the school fence.

In the wake of the abduction, parents and guardians thronged the college to pick their children and wards, blaming the incident on the poor security in the school.

Some parents of the abducted schoolchildren, who spoke to The Punch on condition of anonymity, said the kidnappers called between 3pm and 5pm on Saturday.

A parent said, "They allowed me to speak with my son.

5 Effective Ways To Read And Remember Everything | Mr Olumide's Blog

Posted: 28 May 2017 01:28 AM PDT

It is one thing to read a book and another to remember everything you read. A lot of motivation is lost when you read a book only to find out that you cannot recall what you read even at the shortest period of time. It is a common event among many students and this has led to the conclusion, "If I read, I'll forget because I have low retentive memory".

This statement is however not true! Yes, no one has low retentive memory.
While some forget everything they read, others can recall it easily.
Have you ever wondered why this happens? A lot of students who fail examinations have reported they do read but forget everything they read which is why I have decided to write this article. Trust me, if you can follow this article to the end and put the guidelines into action, your retentive power will surely increase.

1. READ TO KNOW AND UNDERSTAND
Your mindset when reading speaks on whether you will remember or forget what you are reading. A question you should ask is, "What should my mindset be while reading? ".
The answer to this question is the key to unlock your hidden power of remembrance. Your aim of reading should be to gain knowledge. You may want to ask, "Am I not aiming to gain knowledge while reading? Of course you are!. But, you are gaining knowledge only to pass examination!
Many reader who are yet to discover their hidden power of remembrance have the mindset of reading in order to pass their examination which makes them to cram rather than understand the content of the book. As a result, they forget everything they read immediately after the examination which has led to a common saying among students when you ask them questions, "I was taught last term/session, I have forgotten".
"Therefore, change your mindset while reading. Read to gain knowledge, make sure you understand the concept of what you are reading and don't just read to pass an examination"

2. DO NOT SKIP A SENTENCE
Students regard some of the information in a book as "story" and decide to skip them. This is common especially when reading for examination. Before you can understand and remember what you read, just have to read enough. The secret is, "The more you read, the more you understand and the more you remember" . You cannot read four sentences and expect to know five. So, neglect the belief of regarding some of the content of a book as story because
there are hidden secrets in every sentence!

3. WRITE IT DOWN
Research has proven that writing down what you are reading helps you to remember more. After reading for several minutes, try to write down everything you have read without looking at it(Writing it in your own word is allowed). This will help you to know the part you don't understand, so you can go over it again. This is a very effective method which I have been using for quite a long time and I am sure it will work for you!.

4. EXPLAIN IT TO YOURSELF
If you have been forgetting what you read, it is because you either crammed it or you did not understand. After reading for a while, try to explain to yourself, it will help you to know if you really understand the concept of what you are reading.

5. TAKE A BREAK
Readings for 10hours without taking a break does not make you a bookworm but I'll rather call it a waste of time. Yes, a waste of time!. Your brain is a biological organ and not a machine, it also gets tired. Effective reading habit should be cultivated as it is more yielding. When I say effective reading, after reading for 1-2hours, you tend to lose concentration when your brain gets stressed. Don't force yourself to continue reading but just take reading but just take a 10-30minutes break depending on you until you feel relaxed and good to go again. After the break, try to recall everything you have read before the break, then you can proceed with your reading.

Ambode’s wife committed sacrilege by her action in church – Bishop Reacts | Mr Olumide's Blog

Posted: 28 May 2017 01:03 AM PDT

The Rt. Rev. Michael Adeyemi, the head of the African Church, Ifako Diocese, and the boss of the Presiding Chaplain of the Chapel of Christ the Light, Ikeja, Venerable Femi Taiwo, who was sacked by Lagos State Government for allegedly disrespecting the wife of the governor, Bolanle.

In this explosive interview with The Punch's Samson Folarin, he states the position of the church.

What relationship exists between The African Church and the Chapel of Christ the Light?
The chapel belongs to the Lagos State Government, but it is being managed by the entire Christian body and, specifically, the various blocs that form the Christian Association of Nigeria. In CAN, there are five blocs. The African Church belongs to the Christian Council of Nigeria, which is one of the blocs. The position of the Presiding Chaplain of the Chapel is rotated among the blocs to avoid any disharmony in the body of Christ. So, it is our turn to produce the Presiding Chaplain.

Venerable Taiwo, who is from this (Ikeja) diocese, was the chaplain for three years and after the three years he applied to become the presiding chaplain. He was interviewed and discovered to be qualified. He was subsequently employed as the Presiding Chaplain.

He started in January 2016, and was supposed to spend three years, but this incident happened. His predecessor came from the ECWA bloc of CAN and it was when his predecessor finished his tenure that he was appointed.

What is the process of appointing chaplains?
When the position becomes vacant, it will be published in the newspapers. Normally, applications will be invited from everybody, but in the end it will follow the usual order of rotation. So, when everybody applies, there will be a panel that will interview the applicants and the qualified person will be employed.

But are you aware that he got some queries as the government alleged? Has he ever told you he was queried at anytime for any offence?
I asked him specifically if he had been receiving queries from the officials of the chapel or the government, but he said it has never happened.

I know Taiwo. He is a very responsible minister of God; very knowledgeable, humble and disciplined. I have worshiped at that chapel a few times myself. And I made personal investigations about him. Even the members of the chapel are saddened by this development. If you know about what they have been doing since this incident happened, you will know venerable Taiwo is a man everybody respects.

Like what?
They accommodated him and furnished the place just to make him comfortable. They have also written to the government to rescind the decision. He is not a wayward person.

A lot of Nigerians are outraged about what happened. Do you think that this anger is justified?

It is highly justified. Even as a church, we are furious with the government. But we are trying to approach the issue from different angles. One is to appeal to the government, if reasoning will prevail. The governor himself and his wife can rescind the order. The head of the church, His Eminence, Primate Emmanuel Josiah, has written to the governor's office. He has been asked to book an appointment with the First Lady. We are aware that the letter written to the First Lady is not being attended to; she is not even ready to make herself available.

Has the church received any formal complaint against the Venerable?
That is where as a church we are angry with the government. If he is a serial offender as alleged, nothing stops them from reporting him to the church, that the person you seconded to the office here has a bad attitude and we would have called him to order. We have many others that we could have sent to the chapel. But we are very sure of him that was why we sent him. The government failed to inform us and for government now to have taken such a drastic step and tell him to leave (his official apartment) within 24 hours leaves much to be desired.

Will the church query the Venerable over the incident?
Yes, however, it might not be in the form of query. The church will do its findings over his activities over there and we will forward out findings to the centre. But so far from our findings, we have not found any fault in him. Some of the elders and chapel leaders are also angry over the sacking. They were not informed. He has not done anything to warrant what happened.

What has been the experience of the pastors of the church with Mrs. Ambode and former first ladies in Lagos State?
While I will not want to be too personal, as a church, we are very much at home with Dame Abimbola Fashola than with Mrs. Bolanle Ambode. Mrs. Fashola is a mother, very humble, knowledgeable and mature. She has a way of dealing with men, women, young, old, men of God of different cadres and she knows how to appreciate people. Many of these attributes are somehow lacking in Mrs Ambode. Maybe this is because of her tender age; she needs to acquire more experience.

What is the state of the Venerable and his family now?
I want to thank the members of the Chapel of Christ the Light. They have been very fantastic. They accommodated him and furnished the place he is staying now. His car got burnt where he parked it. If a car is parked in a government house and that car got burnt in the middle of the night like 2am, there is foul play. Even that alone, if government is very fair, they were supposed to set up a panel to investigate it. But that did not happen.

When this incident happened, it was these members that bought him another car so that he would not feel the impact of what happened. Even as a church, we are making plans to ensure he is not stranded.

He will not be without a ministry. We are going to give him a station very soon, if he is not called back. We just don't want to rush it.

What will the church do if the government recalls him?
If government calls him back before he resumes at his new station, then we will need to sit down with them because this is a complete embarrassment to the church. Ambode, his wife, the state government, embarrassed and insulted the African Church. We must sort things out and give them our stand.

They may decide to recall him because of the tension that has arisen over the incident only to do something worse. These politicians cannot be predicted. Any politician that does not have the fear of God cannot be trusted. The embarrassment they caused us has never happened to any other denomination. Even during the military era this can never happen.

Why do you think some government officials don't respect pastors and priests?
They lack the fear of God. They are conscious of position and money and with this, the society cannot move forward. Also, our religious leaders have messed themselves up because of money. They are patronising the politicians and they are making them to believe that their anointing is not real.

But I believe that any politician, who has the fear of God in him, even if any minister misbehaves, you are not the one to judge him. You should ensure you do your part. If Ambode or his wife knows the tenets of Christianity, they will not deal with Venerable Taiwo like that. They will know that this is a man of God.

They should have said have written to us, saying they don't want to embarrass the church and we as a church would have handled it. We have a lot of other ministers across the state and the country. But they didn't do that because there is no fear of God in them. They are not ready to submit to the Will and Word of God. Ego is killing us.

If not ego, why should Mrs. Ambode feel embarrassed that she was not called first to receive the anointing? But when ego takes the better part of any individual, that person will misbehave and if you tell him or her the truth, he or she will not agree.
