How God Can Turn Things Around For Your Good Posted: 15 Feb 2018 04:12 AM PST Remember that God Promises to Bring Purpose Out of Every Hard Place As believers in Christ, we can hold fast to this promise. God will never waste our pain. He will turn it around for good. Every battle. Every hard place. Every dark time. Every painful storm. He will never allow us to walk through deep struggle without allowing it to bring greater hope and purpose, both in our own lives and through our place in this world. Every mark of darkness is redeemed when we're in Christ. Every crushing trial will be pushed back so we can live free. It's what He does best. He brings beauty and strength, hope and goodness from every difficult journey and broken day. Our past will not define us. The trial itself will not label us. We are only defined by our Lord who lifts us out of the deep, who brings us through the fire, who takes us straight out of the darkness, into greater purpose and blessing up ahead. Restored. Redeemed. Renewed. Repurposed. "And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose." - Romans 8:28 Talk to God and Pray His Words Back to Him Sometimes when we're hurting most we don't even know how to pray. We're at a loss for words, our hearts are broken, our spirits grieved. But we can find strength in knowing that Christ Himself intercedes for us when we don't know what to pray. And just opening God's words and praying His truths back to Him is so powerful and effective. We're speaking out living words straight into the darkness we find ourselves in. It renews our minds, it comforts our hearts, it brings peace to our spirits. Recently when our family was walking through a very difficult trial, I found myself there. Night after night, I was awakened by the deep hurt and pain in my heart. I prayed, I cried, I longed just to sleep again. But often, the only thing I found that could bring peace and comfort to my spirit was God's Word. I would say out loud every verse that came to my mind, praying His powerful reminders back to Him. Sometimes I would read chapter after chapter, until sleep came again. I would awaken, the Bible still laying open, right over my heart. It didn't instantly make all our problems go away, when I woke up, they were still there. But through time, I realized this: my mind, heart, and spirit were being renewed day by day, night by night. His peace, healing, and comfort were washing over me every time I spoke his words, believing them to be true. "Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus." - Philippians 4:6-7 [written by Debbie McDaniel] culled from Olu famous Mr Olumide's Blog |
Fire Incident At National Assembly, Senators Evacuated Posted: 15 Feb 2018 03:42 AM PST The Senate was forced to stop proceedings on Thursday after a fire outbreak in the technical unit of the assembly complex. They had opted to ignore the development but Ibrahim Gobir, Sokoto (APC), moved that the plenary be adjourned; "The condition is not very conducive because our chambers are there; yesterday we engaged the contractors working in the senate. We believe it is now Saturday they will be able to finish it," he said. Senate President, Bukola Saraki, approved the prayer. He said, "What you presented to us makes sense. Definitely, the chamber is not conducive for today's activities and as such, I would direct that we adjourn till Tuesday so that between now and the weekend the members of the services and maintenance unit can ensure that we bring the chamber into a conducive environment." culled from Olu famous Mr Olumide's Blog |
Madam Inserted Stick In My Private Part - 12-Year Old Girl Posted: 15 Feb 2018 03:22 AM PST Sad story of a minor who was domestically abused by a woman in the course of living with her. The 12-year-old girl, Faith Nwanja, has told officials of the Ebonyi State Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development how she was subjected to inhuman treatment by her mistress, Mrs. Nkechi Bartholomew. The girl, who hails from Okoffia community in Ezza South Local Government Area, was tortured, mutilated and abandoned by Bartholomew for being too stubborn. Bartholomew, a childless woman and seamstress adopted Nwanja and took her to Onitsha, Anambra State, when she was eight years old. But Bartholomew allegedly disfigured the girl. Nwanja has shocking scars and injuries all over her body, including eyes. She also has bloodied mouth and has lost one of her hands to torture. Narrating her ordeal, the girl said her madam always tortures her with sticks, hot iron and other dangerous weapons for being stubborn. She also alleged that Bartholomew, who hails from the same area with her, always inserts stick into her private part. It was learnt that Bartholomew tortured Nwanja and locked her up in a dark room. She was rescued by Bartholomew's sister and taken back to Ebonyi State. Nwanja equally accused Bartholomew of chaining her and that she only eats once in a day which, according to her, is usually in the evening. She said: "My madam, Bartholomew, disfigured me like this. I was a full-fledged human being when she took me to Onitsha, Anambra State. She inserted her fingers in my eyes and inflicted these injuries on me. "In this my mouth, she usually uses stones and puts inside it. She said I don't normally brush my teeth and since I cannot do it, I must always suffer for it. "The husband has never beaten me; he always gets annoyed seeing me being tortured by his wife. At times, he will summon courage and quarrel with his wife because the wife is bigger than the man. "My madam used to lock me inside a dark room after beating me up. I was taken home by my madam's sister who told her to take me home but she refused. My madam used to tell me that nothing will happen if I die, that she will spend her money and regain freedom if she is arrested if anything happens to me. "I was attending school in the village before she took me to Onitsha. But since four years that I went to Onitsha, I have not gone to school. I only eat in the evening every day. "My madam used to insert stick into my private part, she says I am stubborn. After beating me up, she will bring to gallons and placed my two legs. She will tie my legs on them and insert stick into my private part." Head of Department, Child Development Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development, Godwin Igwe, described Nwanja's torture as inhuman and degrading. Igwe said it was contrary to the constitution of the Nigeria 1999 as amended in 2011. He said: "No human being or child for any reason should be subjected to inhuman treatment. But this child was subjected to inhuman treatment. "This is a pure case of attempted murder, this is a pure case of attempted annihilation, snuffing of life and debilitating. Right now, she cannot use one of her hands, she is a disabled person. The head has been mutilated, she has been disfigured." Meanwhile, the suspect is at large while her sister who brought the victim home has been arrested by the state police command. Source: New Telegraph culled from Olu famous Mr Olumide's Blog |

Dino Melaye Is Saraki's Son: How Tinubu Made Senate Erupt In Laughter Posted: 15 Feb 2018 12:07 AM PST Influential politician and senator representing Lagos central, Remi Tinubu, has described her colleague from Kogi west, Dino Melaye, as a son in whom Senate President, Bukola Saraki is well pleased. The wife of the national leader of the ruling All Progressive Congress, made the comment on Wednesday when she was called by Saraki to second a motion approving votes and proceedings moved by Melaye. According to The Cable, Saraki had asked Melaye to move a motion for the adoption of the votes and proceedings of the last legislative day. Responding, Melaye said: "I want to move the motion on behalf of myself and Senator Remi Tinubu." This was after Saraki described Melaye who was wearing a red suit as the best dressed. But Tinubu said she ought to have been called to move the motion because she is a ranking senator. The former Lagos State first lady said the day was for roses and Melaye did not have a single one on his attire, while she had. "I am a ranking senator. I was supposed to be called to approve the votes and proceedings but you gave it to him because he is your son," she said. "You are being partial… you also gave him the best dressed. Did you look at me? I have roses all over. Today is for roses, he doesn't even have a single rose. "Since I am not your son, I will gladly second the motion, ably moved by your beloved son in whom you are well pleased. I so second." The chamber erupted in laughter. culled from Olu famous Mr Olumide's Blog |
How To Be Confident In God & Get Results Posted: 14 Feb 2018 05:02 AM PST Mark Twain once quipped, "All you need in life is ignorance and confidence, and success is sure." There is a bit of truth in that statement. When you either don't care about failing or don't know that you can fail, you typically put your head down and keep plowing ahead. Confidence is the engine that drives achievement. It pushes us toward the mark, the goal. It is the "it factor" that distinguishes the exceptional from the average. Confidence pushes us toward focus and causes us to live with assurance and certainty. According to Merriam-Webster, confidence is "full trust; belief in the power, trustworthiness, or reliability of a person or thing." But where does it come from? While it is true that some people seem to have been born with personalities and dispositions that exude a focused self-assurance, for most of us, our confidence has developed over time. Abilities have been sharpened and honed. We have been tested and challenged, and have learned to trust our abilities and capabilities in certain areas. In fact, the challenges have strengthened and refined both our abilities and our will to push forward. The result is a courageous confidence that says, "I don't have to be afraid; this can be done." The professional athlete doesn't sweat under pressure because he's sunk that shot, hit that ball, and made that catch thousands of times. Chances are the Academy Award–winning actress nurtured and developed her craft for years in relative obscurity and developed an outlook that says, "This may be a bigger stage, but I've been here before and I can do this." The surgeon is focused and calm under pressure because his education, training, and experience have prepared him for that moment. In short, confidence says: "I've been preparing for this very moment. I'm ready. Let's do it." CONFIDENCE FROM ABOVE As followers of Christ, there is a distinctively different basis, direction, and source of our confidence. The Bible speaks of confidence from a vertical perspective. It is not derived from the relative consistency of our experiences and the development of our gifts, talents, and abilities. It doesn't come from the strength of our personalities or our track records of success. Likewise, it is not diminished or damaged by inconsistency, failure, suffering, dysfunction, or what so often appears to be the erratic, unpredictable nature of life. No. Our confidence is anchored in God. He never changes. He is never out of control. He is never taken by surprise. He never loses. Our circumstances don't affect God; he affects our circumstances. God never missteps. He has no glitches. His ability to function is never overloaded. He never breaks down or crashes. He is our proactive, loving heavenly Father, who not only has a plan for our lives, but also has the resources to make happen everything he intends. Our confidence does not depend on what we have or what we have done. Our confidence is in a person — our unfailing God, who shows up in every situation, circumstance, and condition in which we find ourselves. This causes us to be resilient, to persevere, to endure. This kind of confidence is what the Bible calls FAITH. Biblical confidence is an enduring faith. There's a relationship between the condition and strength of our faith and our view of God. In other words, the condition of our faith is a reflection of our view of God. But our view of God is often eclipsed by what appear to be insurmountable challenges and difficulties. Added to this is the corrosive cynicism that permeates Western culture. It has become an art form. We have made it intellectually appealing to be doubters. We celebrate our "incisive" negative analysis of seemingly everything and everyone, from the president of the United States to local pastors, from pop icons to our neighbors. Bloggers, magazines, and the tidal wave of talk shows give us a daily autopsy, pointing out what's wrong and why we can't trust this person or that situation. And it affects us. A constant diet of the downside of life lowers our sights, clouds our perspective, and contaminates our faith. Our faith needs to be guarded and protected, because it is the currency of the Christian life. The writer of the book of Hebrews says it clearly and directly: "And without faith it is impossible to please him, for whoever would draw near to God must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who seek him" (11:6). Our God confidence is no casual thing. It is key to experiencing God's presence and power in our lives and in the circumstances and challenges we face. Our journey through this life must be viewed through the lens of God's Word. There we see the truth concerning who God is and how we are to face every issue and challenge in life, including those dark, uncertain times. God is there, and he is our confidence.
